I was in a Pokémon Center earlier today picking up some berries for Spooks (we’re working on training), when this kid came in with a a half-dead shiny Skrelp. The poor little thing was in the filthiest travel tank I’ve ever seen—all sorts of algae and moss growing inside it. This kid, who was probably around 13—more than old enough to know better—hadn’t cleaned the tank and had been refilling it with fresh water. He said it was because “Skrelp eat dead plants, and they’re Poison-type so it should be fine.” The kid clearly didn’t give a shit—since it’s a shiny, Mommy and Daddy probably bought it for him.

Long story short, I have a Skrelp now. She’s in one of the large saltwater observation tanks at the Institute. Crowley and Jet are gathering rotting seaweed for her to eat when she’s stronger. One of our vets put her on a strong course of antibiotics. She’s really weak and has the early stages of gill rot. It’s a miracle she survived this long in such low-salinity water.

I’m not a specialist nor a veterinarian, so does anyone have tips on keeping her comfortable? @pokemonshelterstories @pokemoncenter

I’m not excited to see what happens now that Mickey Minun is public domain. All we’re gonna get is a year of slasher movies and then everyone is gonna forget. Where’s the joy? Where’s people making their own child-friendly cartoons with him, or with Felix, or Betty? Why is media for children considered a frivolous thing, when it can hold so much creativity and imagination and meaning? I swear, people view “child-friendly” as a limitation, when it actually opens up a whole new world for artists and writers.

You're having a BLAST beaking shit into little tiny peices! You spot a chair that's pulled out, away from the others. Another victim. It feels weird to call a chair that, but there's no other word that fits.

The hammer collides with the fabric, and...

Instead of plastic shards and some metal here or there, it's.. Flesh. And organs. The chair is- well, was- alive. It shouldn't be alive. It shouldn't have meat or intestines or bones. But it does.

It feels... satisfying, almost. The contact with the "meat." You figure that it's not the only one that's meaty. So you go around other floors, searching for more meat things. It is, overall, a very strange and satisfying dream.

Genuine Question:

Why do people capture wild Pokémon to use as companions or for battle?

There are plenty of Pokémon in shelters and ethical breeders. Additionally, it seems like most people will just catch a Pokémon without attempting to form a relationship with it beforehand and then complain when it’s hostile or uncooperative. I want to make it clear that I understand sometimes a wild Pokémon has to be captured if they’re an invasive species, the Pokémon is injured, or if a person is in danger. I was a Ranger; I’ve had plenty of experience with those scenarios. But those Pokémon are always given treatment (if necessary) and relocated to a nature preserve or a new area.

I’m definitely biased because pokéballs can’t legally be purchased in Fiore (where I’m from), and the idea of capturing a wild Pokémon for selfish reasons like wanting a pet or battler seems bizarre and cruel to me.
