Yeah that's just about the advice my local industry folks have been giving, which I hope will work out! I'm sticking my nose everywhere I can. The early taillow gets the wurmple and all that, in terms of knowing jobs about. But still it always breaks me inside a little when a good place says 'oh you can apply to join us on indeed/linked in' cause that's NEVER going to work well 😅

i'm unexpectedly fostering a senior scolipede at the moment, she's a retired long distance cargo/draft animal and i'm having trouble finding a farrier that will trim her feet. everyone so far has said they have no experience with pokemon that aren't rapidash/mudsdale/average equines, if i were to try and trim her hooves myself is there anything i should keep in mind? i know bug-type chitin is very different from hoof keratin but i'm unsure what i should do differently

it's a good thing that nobody will trim her feet, because she does not need them trimmed, and doing so could seriously injure her. her exoskeleton is not like a rapidash's hooves. it does not grow continuously and must be regularly shed, because the chitin is bound to proteins that give it its rigid structure and hardness. trying to trim it before she's ready to molt will leave the sensitive living tissue exposed, causing pain and possible difficulty walking.

you should never attempt to do skilled medical work on your pokemon by yourself unless you are trained to do so. farrier work requires schooling and apprenticeship, and it is not even the proper solution in your situation. the exoskeleton will come off naturally. if she has any foot problems before then, you need to contact a veterinarian.

Since you’re a ranger, have you had many encounters with Abra? And if so… have you ever seen their eyes open? My brother tells me they don’t have them, but I don’t know enough about Abra to tell for sure

they aren't native to paldea. i'm not sure that i've ever encountered one in person. my sibling's lab is currently working with abra, so i've gotten plenty of stories (most of which involve them getting teleported random places...don't ask).

that being said, i can confirm that abra do indeed have eyes! they just keep their eyes closed most of the time because they sleep so much, and they're fairly sensitive to light. their psychic abilities mean they don't need to use their eyes to detect potential dangers, so they tend to maintain at least a light doze for most of the day. there's a pretty famous picture of an abra with one of its eyes open, taken in johto like...gosh, almost 30 years ago? if you look up "winking abra" on sligoogle you'll probably find it
