Elevator Hitch Genderbending rambles (part one of maybe many)
Hello! Thought I'd flex a little of my research and talk about my designs. Obviously these are pretty fluid, but yeah!
Tumblr media
Ms. Protagonist!! Oh the miss average lady you are.... That's really the core of her: average. She dislikes standing out and prefers high pants and a jacket that's loose with little/no scaffolding. She's very obviously feminine/a woman but likes to be a lot more lowkey about it
I like the idea of her having a perm...or at least having one at one point! Maybe the Co-worker convinces her to. But her hair is rather short and a little closer to her head than c!protag's. I'm very okay with her hair being less strict to the time period, since her masc counterpart isn't :}
A general "rule" I have for genderbends is to give or take about 4 inches if you're going one way or the other. She just radiates 5'3 woman to me. I apologize. She wears a cute wedge, which gives her about an inch or two.
70's makeup was much more simple/lowkey compared to the bumper eras of the 60s and 80s. There was a lean more for natural makeup, popularizing pink tinted lip gloss and the invention of cream eye-shadows. F!PT does closer to the minimum, lip-gloss and mascara, but nothing intense.
Tumblr media
Oh Ms. Co-worker... Oh miss ma'am...
Some people may not agree with me on this one but I cannot resist a big lady opportunity. She very much is tall and broad-shouldered, but very confidently super feminine. She's already tall but loves a good heel so she gets to be even taller. as a treat <3
She loves fashion and has more outfits than triple the years she's been alive and she wears ALL of them. She also changes her hairstyle very often. Art above is just what I think she wears for the game events.
Her makeup is the 70's STANDARD. She does the whole thing and man does she do it well.
Tumblr media
You KNOW F!CW is all over that pastel eye-shadow oh my goodness. She can get away with more eccentric/less work appropriate make-up since she's 1) gorgeous and it fits her perfectly 2) nepo-girlboss
Some more examples!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won't go into insane detail about how 70's makeup worked--maybe in another post, though!
Tumblr media
Normal Gal!!
Sorry for such a more low-effort drawing haha. Didn't even get her hair the way I wanted to...
She's also ! utterly average! Which is the point I think haha. She wears a similar outfit to canon with an office skirt that doesn't hug her form much and tights with a pump potentially like this
Tumblr media
She doesn't wear any make-up other than mascara and a lip-gloss :} there is no blush/skin/eye definition to keep that sorta flat/off feel c!normal guy has.
Her hair is inspired by this! I didn't draw it totally properly, but it's rather short with two clips on the side and asymmetrical to keep the same gestures as C!NG
Tumblr media
Hope this was at least to fun to read ^^! Will definitely be toying with their designs etc more in the future!

Lady Frost and the Fire King - A familiar partnership - Chap 11
Chapter 11

(Chapter is about 5000 words long. I recommend to read inside the previous fanfic links)
Kai and Alfida stood together in front of a library and looked at the description at the entrance about the opening time.
„Okay, this must be it,“ Alfida commented. „Shall we go in?“
Kai nodded, then opened the door to enter along with the girl into the library and looked around the place. Alfida showed Kai the reception, where a woman sat using the computer and the two went to encounter the woman.
„Good morning. We‘d like to know if it‘s possible for someone here to help us look for flight tickets to Paris,“ Kai spoke. „Our grandfather told us this was the only way he knew how to obtain and get information about,“ Kai asked earning a nod from the librarian.
„For your grandfather or for you two?“ Asked the librarian.
„Us two,“ Responded Kai.
„Age?“
„I‘m 15 and she‘s 16,“ Responded Kai.
„17,“ Corrected Alfida making Kai grin embarrassed.
„Okay and does it have to be a non-stop flight or a connecting flight?“
„If possible, the cheapest one,“ Added Alfida. „We gotta pay this on our own, eventually,“
„Alright I‘m looking for you two on Brian Airlines, a low-cost airline if you‘re okay with it,“ Stated the woman making the teens nod.
„There are no available low-cost flights to Paris. You would need to choose another destination and see from there, how you could go there to Paris,“ Responded the librarian.
„Well what more can you want, we‘re at the moment out of money and need to go there to get my sister back,“ Explained Kai earning a nod from the librarian.
„How did you get here, if I may ask?“
„It‘s a long story. We‘re really thankful for your help ma‘am,“
„We really are and I don‘t want to be rude or anything, but what are the prices of the available destinations? Are there close to Paris a bit?“ Asked the raven-haired girl the woman, which used her mouse to open the offers.
„60 Norwegian Kroner is if you fly to Vienna, in Austria. Wroclaw in Poland costs 50 Kroner and to Basle in Switzerland 60,“ Mentioned the librarian looking at the two teens.
„For two persons it‘s actually cheap,“ Kai mentioned glad making his crush nod.
„Oh, that‘s for each person,“ Corrected the librarian. „Each of you pays 50 or 60 bucks. So 100 or 120,“
„Oh…..okay, so looks like we have to stay here for a while and find a way to make some money for our flight,“ Kai mentioned making Alfida nod.
„Yeah, we better start to look for a way to obtain money. Maybe Hendrick has an idea and helps us out,“ Commented Alfida.
„I know I can make money with art, I just need to get myself a painting easel and colors. The issue is I will need money for that as well,“
„I‘m thinking about going to Orm and Hendrick and tell what‘s up. Hendrick mostly, he knows this world at the moment better than us,“
„I think you‘ve got a point,“ Kai agreed, then Alfida thanked the woman and walked along with the boy to the outside of the library. „Hey, should we head back to the troll kingdom and see, if we can unfreeze the others?“ Questioned Kai making Alfida shrug her shoulders.
„We could go and try, yeah,“ Replied the raven-haired. „Let‘s get out of here,“ Called Alfida walking the street up with the short boy.
As the school had ended Rollan was alone in the locker room looking at a small book he has as his agenda to see the homework he had noticed down for the week and stored the books we wouldn‘t need for now inside his locker.
„Ay, it‘s been a long time since I‘ve ever done homework. That looks like a lot than usual,“ Spoke Rollan, then stored his agenda inside his bag and got up to close his locker, then noticed his belt he encountered a few days ago. Rollan took the belt out to look at his initial letter and unlocked the aperture under it and tried to adjust it around his waist. „I…..almost got it,“ Commented Rollan trying to squeeze the thick textile through the bands of his pants. Rollan made it and closed his belt, then noticed the old-goldish tune of his symbol get lighter, making him furrow his left eyebrow and in front of him appeared a stone-creature in the air, then it dropped on the ground and it got split into two and both got up scratching their heads.
„Whoa,“ Rollan commented surprised as seeing the two creatures, then got down at the two. „What kind of creatures are you?“ Asked Rollan about to pat the slink creature, then yelped as he burnt his finger on it.
„Hey, hey, hey. Didn‘t you notice the magma on my head?“ Asked the slink stone creature watching Rollan shove his finger in his mouth. „It‘s hotter, than a day at the beach,“
„I‘m sorry,“ Apologized Rollan. „I was kinda astonished by seeing you two,“
„I‘m glad you‘re thinking that way,“ Commented the round creature. „Hey haven‘t we seen each other once? You‘re pretty familiar to me,“
„Not that I know,“ Responded Rollan. „Why?“
„I felt like I‘ve known you somehow,“ Responded the large stone-creature. „I‘m Coal by the way. You‘ve got a name as well?“
„Of course he does, Coal,“ Commented the slink stone creature, making Coal frown and punch him on his face making him fall down on the ground to split into two, now the third creature was much smaller than the slinker one.
„I‘m Rollan,“ Responded Rollan looking at the third creature, which got up along with the slinky one.
„If we‘re going to be together for the next amount of time. I would really love if I could walk on the ground on my own or be carried by you. Anytime I‘m hit or fall down, I split in two and if they fall as well, you‘ll have it worse than in a rabbit burrow,“ Coal commented seeing Rollan sit down on the bench looking at the trio,
„Can I at least know, why I am here talking to you three? What were you doing in my belt?“
„That‘s an excellent question, for some reason a foreign man mixed my powers into this belt, so I assume this would be a way to have the wielder be able to use the powers,“
„Powers?“ Asked Rollan curious. „What kind of powers?“ Asked Rollan, then he heard a loud noise on the outside of the building and ran at the window to look out and see the feet of a large robot stand there blocking the way to the buildings behind it. „Coal?!?“
„The power of fire“ Responded Coal. „You‘re able to create fire and use it,“
„Really? How can I do so?“ Asked the raven-haired boy. „Do I have to say anything?“
„You‘ll get the hand of it. You just have to transform and you‘ll be able to use the powers,“ Responded Coal watching Rollan look out of the window and hear someone scream, then the robot moved back and Rollan dropped his mouth knowing someone might be in trouble right now.
„Does this make me one of the good people if I use the firepower?“ Asked Rollan making the stone-creature shrug his shoulders.
„I‘m just here to follow your orders. Whatever path you chose, is up to you,“ Responded Coal watching Rollan look out of the window and frown.
„They need a hero? They will get one!“ Announced Rollan earning applause from the three stone-creatures.
„Then all you need to do is say, Coal, I‘m fired up,“ Stated the stone-creature.
„Coal, I‘m fired up! Ah ha, ha!“ Shouted Rollan opening up his arms and have his clothing get replaced by brown boots, pants, that were marked with fire-themed symbols resembling an engravure. On his body he wore a dark-brown pullover with small streaks, forming lava running down the clothing. Above the pullover, he wore a gray vest with similar patterns to the ones from the pants, and his belt, which now works as a miraculous was dark-red and the cover with Rollan‘s initial got brighter. His skin got darker along with his eyes and his hairstyle became fixed up resembling a fire flame with its colorings as well starting on the ground with dark brown, leading to red up to the end, which was orange and yellow.
„Wow!“ Commented Rollan astonished looking at his appearance, then ran at the exit and shrieked as the door got smacked back to encounter students from the fencing class run into the locker room accompanied by their class teacher.
„There‘s fire!“ Shouted a girl pointing at Rollan‘s superhero form, which looked around to spot the empty room.
„Where?“ Asked Rollan watching the disappear behind the locker while the rest of the team looked at the superhero. „Why is everyone looking at me as if my head was on fire?“ Asked Rollan and Mr. D‘Argencourt took out his smartphone to show Rollan his looks as a superhero and he got surprised as he saw himself as a superhero and his hair was burning at that exact moment. „Oh that‘s what you meant,“
„Get in here!“ Shouted a red-dressed fencing student, which stood at the entrance waiting for other students to leave the court and Rollan ran out heading to the field passing by a few students encountering Kim Chien Le, who he met on his first school day.
„Hey, Kim! Where‘s the danger?“ Asked Rollan watching Kim point at the outside, making Rollan nod and ran at the outside of the court to spot, a large, dark-blue car robot with two white stripes on its legs and arms holding with its left hand a police car with an agent in it. Rollan spotted on the ground Sabrina Raincomprix, which watched in shock the Roboter threatening her father.
„Papa!“ Shouted the redhead, making Rollan swallow hard.
At another part of the schoolhouse, Gerda was in the restroom washing her hands and moved to the side seeing there was no handpaper available, but a strange, electronic device, which had an etiquette with instruction on how to dry her hands in there. Gerda looked at her hands and slowly put them inside the device, which began to blow wind at Gerda‘s hands to dry them and the side of the device had a small display counting from ten down until it would stop drying. As it stopped Gerda took out her hands, then smiled at seeing it made its job good. Gerda picked up from the floor her bag, then walked out of the restroom out a the library opening up the bag to check her material, she had in it and noticed the wreath Rollan told to have found. Therefore the blonde removed the wreath from her bag, then looked at the reflection of a large metal cart and observed herself inserting the wreath on top of her head. As she‘s done that, a blue spirit appeared beside Gerda floating over the lavatory, shrieking at the girl at the sudden appearance of the small creature.
„Hello. I‘m Snowflake,“ Greeted the spirit. „I‘m coming in peace, don‘t worry. I‘m able to grant you powers...the power of ice,“ Explained Snowflake watching Gerda, which had gotten calmer. „With me, you‘ll be able to use ice. You‘ll be able to freeze things, create things, destroy things. A lot is possible if you learn to figure it out,“ „Like the….Snow Queen?“ Asked Gerda curious making the spirit nod, then she spotted someone and hid inside Gerda‘s backpack. „Hey!“ Shouted Gerda opening the backpack. „Get out of here, I need to talk to you,“ Gerda ordered, then she noticed at the end of the library a student, which was wearing a red hoodie and black pants staring at her confused. „I…..can‘t find my phone in there, but I‘m able to talk like this on it. That‘s pretty cool, isn‘t it?“ Asked Gerda faking a grin at the student.
„Uh…..we gotta hide, there‘s another akuma out there terrorizing the city,“ Stated the student making Gerda nod.
„I will come, don‘t worry,“ Responded Gerda watching the boy move on, then from Gerda‘s pocket came out the spirit, making her frown. „Why didn‘t you show up?“
„You‘re my new holder, right?“ Asked the spirit making Gerda shrug her shoulders.
„I don‘t know. You just appeared at the time I‘ve set this on my head,“ Commented Gerda making Snowflake nod.
„Then I assume you are if the wreath is supposed to go to you,“
„Maybe,“ Commented Gerda, then Snowflake floated forward and Gerda followed the spirit to see above the top of the room two TV screens hanging with the news of the akuma alert.
„Shadow Moth akumatized another citizen, which turned into an Autobot and is causing trouble in Paris,“ Explained the purple-haired moderator on TV.
„Oh oh, that‘s right here at our school,“ Commented Gerda earning a nod from the spirit.
„So what do you think? Do you want to give it a chance and use your powers to take down that monster over there?“ Questioned Snowflake. „I think the superheroes would love to have another helping hand. What do you think?“
„I‘ve never done this before. I don‘t know if I can even pull this off,“
„You can do that. You‘ve got me and my powers. You don‘t have to get worried about being hurt or killed. You're sheltered pretty well as long as you have me activated,“
„Okay I could give it a try,“ Gerda answered. „I‘ve defeated the Snow Queen once when I was younger. This will be easier…..I hope at least,“ Gerda commented, then Snowflake patted Gerda on her shoulder.
„Don‘t worry Gerda. You will do just fine. Say, Snowflake freeze and you‘ll transform,“ Added the creature making Gerda nod.
„Snowflake, Freeze!“ Shouted Gerda having her entire look exchanged. Her clothings had vanished and her entire body was covered in a long, blue winter coat with big snowflake patterns spread around the outfit. The wreath got the similar colors of the outfit, the hair had gotten lighter along with the skin, and around her eyes, up to the side of her ears, she wore a mix of ice-white and blue make-up powder with smaller dots and snowflake spread over it along a part of her cheek.
„Woah I look like a….a mini Snow Queen,“ Gerda commented. „Or no this looks like a regular winter cloak,“ Spoke Gerda, then heard the door of the library get kicked back by Kim Chien Le and Ethan, the student he played basketball with holding up the doors, so a few students ran in for safety. Gerda looked from the second floor at the two, then she had an idea and looked at the stairs beside her and looked at her hands, then held them open wide and shoot ice from her hands and she approached the stairs, so she would freeze them. Gerda smiled, then jumped on it sliding down at the first floor, then Gerda shrieked and pushed down a redheaded student and flenched her teeth in shock.
„I‘m sorry Nathaniel,“ Commented Gerda looking at the redhead scratch his head and look up at the girl bewildered from knowing his name. Gerda saw him not caring about what happened, then she ran out of the library and a few students got at the door to see the mysterious person, that had just run out of the library.
„I feel like I‘ve seen her before,“ Commented Kim making the blonde student shrug his shoulders watching the superheroine freeze the long stairs, to slide down on her back.
Rollan stood at the exit looking at the robot, which held the police car in his hands, then he whistled to catch the robot‘s attention.
„Hey! You have to pick someone who‘s worth your level!“ Shouted Rollan‘s alter ego, then he heard a whooshing sound and turned his head back to see the ice-themed superheroine come along. She had made herself a path to the exit with ice, where she was trying to slide on, but she ended up falling down on her front. Rollan got down on the ground to offer her his hand. She took his hand to get up, then tripped over the ice and hit her forehead on his nose, causing him to shake his head surprised at the mishap.
„Are you okay?“ Asked Rollan raising up the girl carefully, then looked into her blue eyes and got lost in them. „Que Hermosísimo...“ Commented Rollan making Gerda grin embarrassed at her slipping, then both turned around as they heard Sabrina cry about her father in danger.
„Have you got any idea?“ Asked Rollan. „I don‘t know, how I can get up there,“
„Maybe we should attack him from here,“ Suggested Gerda, then Rollan nodded and ran towards the supervillain, making Gerda drop her mouth. „What are you going to do?“ Asked Gerda watching the superhero move his arms back causing two fireballs on the hands, then jumped up and hit with them the feet of the supervillain, causing the metal of the feet to melt a little. Rollan looked up at the robot, which moved his feet hard yeeting Rollan across the air, so he would crash with his back against the wall of the school. Gerda ran at the superhero to check for him, then helped him sat up.
„Are you okay?“ Asked Gerda making him nod.
„Yah,“ Replied the brunette. „My fire isn‘t powerful enough to harm him,“
„I saw,“ Responded Gerda and looked at the supervillain, which used his other hand to open the door of the police car, then stopped as the policeman began to shot with his gun at him.
„I think I have an idea,“ Gerda said running at the robot then used her ice power to build around the feet of the robot ice and Rollan sat up observing her doing that. Rollan looked up at the robot, then at the schoolhouse, and had an idea, then run into the school building leaving Gerda alone trying to stop the villain with her ice power.
For a long while, Gerda continued using her ice power seeing she made it to froze the feet of the robot in it, then smiled as he didn‘t move his feet in it. Gerda raised her hand in victory, then the robot tried to pull out his right leg, making pressure on the ice, which began to decay, making Gerda wide her eyes as her plan didn‘t quite work well.
From above the schoolhouse, Gerda spotted Rena Rouge fly against the car, then catapult herself away from it, while pushing Roger Raincomprix out of the vehicle and she landed on the ground, followed by catching the heavy man almost bringing the heroine down on the ground.
„Gosh! Are you heavy!“ Complained Rena Rouge, then the supervillain broke out off the ice and Gerda ran in Rena‘s direction throwing ice at the supervillain to stop him, unsuccessfully.
„Sorry, we‘re new here,“ Gerda commented watching Rena Rouge drop the policeman on the ground, which ran to his daughter and shrieked as the robot dropped the police car over the two.
„Watch out!“ Shouted Rena Rouge then Gerda used her ice power causing a long bridge to appear over the Raincomprix‘s and it hit the bridge, causing it to break, making Gerda scream and before it fell on top of the family Ladybug showed up, coming from the school and used her yo-yo to pull them away, before getting hurt.
„Well done, Ladybug!“ Chanted Rena Rouge, then Ladybug pointed at the school court, where the two members ran into and Ladybug noticed the foreign girl and figured out, that she was wearing the ice miraculous.
„Where did you find that miraculous?“ Asked Ladybug pointing at the wreath.
„It‘s actually mine,“ Gerda responded. „Or it‘s very identical to the wreath I lost,“
„Look….“Ladybug commented, then she heard the shatter of a window, then looked up along with Gerda to see the fire-themed superhero jump out off the window against the supervillain, landing on the middle of his leg, then he used both hands to create a fireball and grabbed the iron of his leg to melt it.
Ladybug facepalmed, then watched Gerda use her ice power to freeze the leg of the villain, then she stopped as she saw the robot push Rollan off his leg into his doom, then Gerda quickly used her ice to freeze the villain‘s foot and Rollan landed on the ice, slipping against Gerda's arms, which caught him. The boy grinned abashedly, then got dropped to the ground as Ladybug approached the duo.
„I see both of you are new. Per coincidence, I already defeated this villain once. The main goal is getting into the head of the villain and destroy the car keys,“ Stated Ladybug, then she heard Cat Noir‘s staff and looked from above the houses behind the bakery to see the cat-themed superhero come along and land on the head of the supervillain, then he knocked on the head of the supervillain.
„Cou cou!“ Greeted Cat Noir gazing upside down into the cabin of the car to see the human, that was akumatized and used his staff to break the windshield, then the robot moved with his upper body hastily causing Cat Noir to fall off, then grab himself on the waist of the robot.
„How shall we get up without any help?“ Asked Gerda looking at Ladybug, then Rena Rouge had an idea and grabbed the girl on her shoulder.
„Follow me you two,“ Asked Rena Rouge switching from Gerda to Rollan, then both followed the fox-themed superheroine and Ladybug looked at her yo-yo, then threw it up to activate her lucky charm.
„Lucky charm!“ Shouted the heroine, then received a large ladder and chuckled about it. „Wow this is actually useful….in a way,“ Commented the spotted heroine, then looked around the place and noticed the car of the police agent lie broken in front of the stairs, then she had an idea and ran at the car to place the ladder over the car. Ladybug watched Cat Noir jump off the Autobot, landing on the ground, and observed the Autobot hit himself on the leg, making Cat Noir grin.
„You‘ve got a plan, bugaboo?“ Asked Cat Noir, then Ladybug pointed at the ladder.
„I had expected you to remain up on Apace there for a little longer and jump down at the ladder, but now I think you‘ve gotta do it in another way,“
„From above the school?“ Suggested Cat Noir, then heard the window of the school getting broken, then both looked up to see Rollan‘s superhero form fly towards the supervillain, getting closer to his head, beginning to distract him. „I wasn‘t aware he could do that,“ Cat Noir commented surprised making Ladybug chuckle.
„Rena is quite imaginative, isn‘t she?“ Asked Ladybug looking at Cat Noir, which then understood, Ladybug had already figured out it was an illusion. Rollan‘s alter ego jumped out off the window and Cat Noir jumped at the middle of the ladder and got on the top of it, making the ladder swank down and Rollan‘s landing on the other side catapulted Cat Noir up at the driver cabin, thereafter Cat Noir broke with his staff the side of the window, then blocked with it the driver and activated his cataclysm to destroy his car keys to reveal the akuma.
„Bingo!“ Cat Noir chanted, then the villain packed Cat Noir on his head, trying to hold him down, and moved his hand close to Cat Noir‘s hand.
„Why is it taking so long?“ Asked Rollan looking at Ladybug, which noticed Cat Noir‘s odd movements from down, then she looked up at the roof to see Rena Rouge and Gerda‘s alter ego.
„Hey, snowgirl! Jump down and help the fire guy up at the robot head to help Cat Noir out!“ Ordered Ladybug, then Gerda looked down at Rollan‘s alter ego, which waited for her to jump down. „Don‘t worry,“
„Come on, you‘ll do just fine. I trust you,“ Rollan said loud, then Gerda jumped down landing with her feet on the end of the ladder catapulting Rollan up on the robot, then he landed on top of Cat Noir and grabbed the hands of the villain to prevent him to remove the ring off Cat Noir‘s hands.
„What‘s the next plan?“ Asked Rollan, then Cat Noir moved his head to look at the villain trying to find another place, where an amok could be located eventually.
„Do you see here anything loose?“ Asked Cat Noir, then Rollan looked around noticing on the rearview mirror a religious necklace hanging on it. He then kept looking around the vehicle and glanced back at the mirror.
„What about the necklace on the mirror?“ Asked Rollan making the superhero nod.
„That must it be, destroy it,“ Ordered Cat Noir, then Rollan picked the necklace and pressed it tight together causing fire with his hands, so it would get pulverized by him, then a blue feather flew out off the broken windshield making Cat Noir smile. „Well done,“ Complimented Cat Noir and Rollan watched the feather fly out, then they heard Ladybug activate her healing light to restore everything back to normal and around the robot passed by her light and removed the robot, dropping the two superheroes on the ground. Rollan got confused, afterward looked around himself to see, what had happened and looked at Cat Noir.
"Is your hair really burning?" Asked Cat Noir looking at the rookie, which was checking the surroundings wondering, where the robot had gone.
„Where did the robot go?“ Asked Rollan. Cat Noir spotted the citizen, that had been de-akumatized appear on the ground and beside him stood a blue, American muscle car. Cat Noir got up and went down on his knees to check on the man.
„Did you get caught on another illegal race, Anthony?“ Asked Cat Noir making the man shake his head.
„Not really, but I broke the speed limit and got my license taken away. I actually deserved it anyway, but I have let the anger take over me,“ Explained the driver, then Rollan looked into the car to see the necklace on the mirror, then got down to the man as well.
„That necklace in there, I used to have one from my mother, but I‘ve lost it,“ Commented Rollan.
„I‘ve got it there as a lucky charm,“ Stated the driver. „But I should really keep the velocity down. Not because of my life, I could bring someone else in danger or even erase someone‘s life, who‘s most likely to be innocent,“
„We never know,“ Commented Cat Noir, then Rollan got up to approach Ladybug, Rena Rouge and Gerda‘s alter ego, then smiled at the girls.
„We‘re not quite the skilled heroes here,“ Commented Rollan. „I‘m not sure, how we got to be them or if we deserve it,“
„Actually I‘ve lost your two‘s miraculouses during my last fight and I needed to retrieve it, but you two were fighting without any hesitation and trying to help. I think I‘ll let you keep them. Now that Shadow Moth is stronger than before it would be really good to have more team members. This was your first time, you two will gain skills with the time,“
„Yes,“ Agreed Gerda looking at Rollan‘s alter ego, which smiled at her and bowed down at the girl.
„Have you two actually a name?“ Asked Rena. „You know a superhero one?“
„Exactly, no one has to know who our identity is. No one. This is most important, cause if Hawk Moth knows about our other identity, we and our family and friends will be in danger,“
„Sure,“ Responded Rollan.
„I promise,“ Gerda added.
„So, what‘s your hero name?“ Asked Ladybug. „Paris needs to know, who these two newbies are,“
„Well I would need to think about how I should call myself...something feminine,“ Stated Gerda while Rollan pondered about it.
„Fire King, I‘m Fire King,“ Stated Rollan making Ladybug smile.
„It does‘t have to be complicated. Something very simple like uhm….Ice Queen“ Suggested Ladybug making Rena chuckle.
„Or Frosty, Frosty-girl, Queen Frost…….Ice Frost….“ Suggested the Fire King making Gerda chuckle, then she figured out a name she could use.
„Hey, I think I‘ve got one…...What about, Lady Frost?“
„It‘s up to you, if you like it,“ Mentioned Ladybug earning a nod from Rena Rouge.
„I like it,“ Rena commented making Gerda smile.
„I find it suits you,“ Added Fire King earning a nod from the light blonde girl, then Ladybug lifted her fist up in the middle, then watched Cat Noir and Rena Rouge get beside the two and look at the two newbies. Rena Rouge moved her eyes calling the attention of the two rookies, which smiled and placed their one hand in the middle to do a group fist bump.
„Pound it!“ Said the group together, seconds later Fire King and Lady Frost repeated their sentence, then saw Cat Noir‘s ring beep.
„Oh excuse me, I gotta go, see you another time,“ Cat Noir said waving at the group.
„How long have you been superheroes if I may ask?“ Questioned Lady Frost watching Ladybug think about it.
„I think about two years, almost,“ Replied the blue-haired girl. „I‘ve got a lot of experience on my back. You two are new, inexperienced, and are probably new to us all. Eventually to each other as well. The more we work together in the future, the better you two get,“
„Thank you for your confidence, Ladybug,“ Commented Lady Frost giving the heroine her hand to shake, then saw Ladybug‘s earring beep.
„Oh I gotta go as well, before I transform back,“ Warned Ladybug earning a nod from Rena Rouge, which saluted at the duo and ran away. Ladybug used her yo-yo and swung away, disappearing behind the building and Fire King and Lady Frost looked at each other.
„Do we know each other?“ Asked Fire King making the ice-themed heroine shake her head.
„Probably not. I don‘t seem to recognize you,“ Responded Lady Frost making the brunette nod.
„I felt like I‘ve seen you before,“ Commented Fire King. „I don‘t know, maybe your eyes made me feel like I‘ve seen them before,“
Lady Frost chuckled, then patted the superhero on the shoulder.
„Probably just a coincidence. There are more people with blue eyes. Might just be a coincidence,“ Explained Lady Frost. „I have to go. We will see each other next time,“ Mentioned the blonde making the fire-themed superhero nod and watch the heroine ran into the school court. Fire King smiled enchanted as the heroine went upstairs and leaned his back against the railing of the school sighing.

Have you ever noticed how the writing styles of authors from different time periods reflect the aesthetics and styles valued in society? Like, Jane Austen wrote during the Regency era, in which excessive decoration in homes, clothing, and hairstyles were the peak. Her writing features a lot of flourishing, comma-ridden sentences that often repeat similar ideas in different forms. Ex:
If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.
You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.
Despite having the same basic idea- being silenced by your deep love for a person- both quotes are vastly different in length and simplicity. One is easier to understand than the other. It’s, in the best form of the word, unnecessary. And that is exactly what makes it appealing. It’s all the bells and whistles that make up one beautiful, busy collage of a quote. It’s similar to the popular interior design of that time:
Tumblr media
via
And the clothing styles as well:
Tumblr media
via
Now let’s look at Agatha Christie. She was a writer active from the 1930s to the 1970s. Specifically, here is a quote from Third Girl, published in 1966:
They have a genius, young ladies, for getting into various kinds of trouble and difficulty.
It’s a commentary on society in the ’60s, a big part of the novel being that the third girl is an independent, unmarried woman with an artsy, eccentric boyfriend her parents disapprove of. It’s to the point, without any twisting and turning wordplay, and maintains as much meaning as it does efficiently. It’s completely equal in length/word usage and meaning. It’s a complete middle ground. Much like the decorations of houses in those days:
Tumblr media
via
Blocky, non-ornate furniture, wood paneling, but also interestingly shaped lamps, strange accent pieces, and strange color schemes. A balance of eccentric and simple.
The clothing styles, too. Most mainstream 60’s fashions looked something like this:
Tumblr media
via
Simple shift dresses and patent leather shoes, but eccentric when it comes to patterns, colors, makeup, and hairstyles. Much like Christie's writing, it’s a balance of simplicity and deeper thought.
Finally, in the modern era, most post-2000s writers follow a certain style. Short and to-the-point sentences. All of these little sentences make up a bigger picture. Take this excerpt from Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects as an example:
Natalie was buried in the family plot, next to a gravestone that already bore her parents’ names. I know the wisdom, that no parent should see their child die, that such an event is like nature spun backward. But it’s the only way to truly keep your child. Kids grow up, they forge more potent alliances. They find a spouse or a lover. They will not be buried with you. The Keenes, however, will remain the purest form of family. Underground.
This paragraph itself is a standalone section of the book. It’s made of many short, efficient sentences that create a bigger theme. There’s one sentence that’s just one word, but it packs the final punch. Basically, it’s minimalist:
Tumblr media
via
Mostly white and light color schemes. Stripped-down furniture. It all comes together to fill the room as a whole, but any standalone piece would make the room feel completely empty. Same with mainstream fashions of The Now:
Tumblr media
via
All the pieces are fairly simple on their own, none of them particularly eye-catching, but when they come together, they create an interesting outfit. Notice the small stacker rings on her fingers and the boots, absent of any buckles or baubles.
So yeah, that’s my theory on how writing in different eras reflects the styles and aesthetics :)

What are your thoughts on how the 18th century is typically portrayed on screen?
The whole century, or just the clothing? I’ll assume you mean mostly the men’s clothing, since that’s what I focus on. (And Frock Flicks has a ton of criticism written up about the women’s clothing, which I don’t know as much about anyways.)
I have a long list of complaints about the majority of 18th century men’s movie costumes, mostly from screenshots I’ve seen because I haven’t actually watched many movies set in the 18th century… (I keep meaning to, but I just keep rewatching stuff I’ve already seen so I can do hand sewing at the same time.)
Bad Things Movie Costumes Frequently Do:
They cut the coats really badly. Like, kind of cut like a modern suit but altered to look kind of 18th century, and there’s no need for it! There are patterns out there! It wouldn’t cost the studios or costume houses any more to cut the coats correctly! Modern coat sleeves and shoulders look awful on coats that should have a nice tight fitted sleeve. And modern tailoring & padding looks bad too. No shoulder pads!! They don’t exist yet, stop putting them in!!! Sometimes they cut them less badly, but they still usually get the front edge wrong. Too many of them are too narrow across the chest, and don’t curve right.
They button the waistcoat all the way up when there’s no reason to! For most of the century it was fashionable to wear some portion of the top unbuttoned so the shirt ruffles could peek out. (In fact, my 1730′s suit is best worn with only 3 buttons done up at the waist) Here’s an example from the 1730′s, and one from the 50′s, and one from the 60′s. Yes there are also plenty of portraits with the waistcoat buttoned up, but if you’re dressed fancy and it’s not cold or windy then let some shirt peek out!
Which is possibly why they keep getting the neckwear wrong. Stacked up ruffly “jabots” are not 18th century! They’re a thing that started in 19th century women’s wear. 18th century men wore stocks (the fanciest option for neckwear, starting in the 1720′s I think), or neck cloths (Somewhat less fancy), or printed handkerchiefs (working class). Horrible lace bibs are a plague upon 18th century movie costumes.
Just totally ignoring hairstyles. Too often they just give them a short modern haircut, or long hair worn down, or a horrendous shiny white wig, or some sort of mullet-y style where they made a half-assed effort but didn’t actually look at reference pictures. And I hardly ever see powder! Where’s the powder? The combination of powder and pomatum is what lets you sculpt the hair into those styles, and it also gives it that matte grey look, which is why the shiny wigs look so wrong. Wigs were popular, but after the full bottomed curly wigs went out of style in the early 18th century, a lot of guys didn’t wear wigs, and had their actual hair styled. If I can do it myself at home and have it look very nice, then why can’t film studios? You don’t even need to buy special hair powder, corn starch works just fine!
Put them in dainty little shoes and silk stockings you cowards! Way too often they have the male characters wearing riding boots all the time, even though riding boots aren’t appropriate for most scenes. They’re for riding and hunting and outdoorsy things! Not for dancing or important social visits or relaxing at home!
Facial hair is super unfashionable for the entire 18th century. Beards in 18th century movies just look wrong, and there’s no excuse for unshaven scruff on a fancy gentleman character.
Bad terrible wrong shirts. It’s hard to see them a lot of the time, because they’re hidden under the rest of the suit, but a proper 18th century shirt is made entirely of squares and rectangles of linen. No buttons anywhere but the cuffs & collar, no yoke, and no circular ruffles!
Overuse of shiny metal buttons. This one is a tad more nitpicky, and sometimes it’s probably done because it’s the cheaper option, but 18th century menswear didn’t feature a whole lot of metal buttons. There were metal buttons, but the vast majority of 18th century menswear had cloth covered or thread wrapped buttons. In a lot of portraits and on extant garments, especially in the early 18th century, it looks like the buttons are metal but they’re actually wrapped in metallic thread.
Cheap nylon lace is always going to look like cheap nylon lace, and if you can’t afford good quality lace then some stiff sheer cotton with wee little rolled hems is always the better option.
That’s all the main complaints I can think of right now. I understand that budget constraints are a thing, but the majority of these could be solved by actually looking at reference pictures and tossing modern ideals of manliness out the window. Hiring people who know stuff about the period and are interested in it would also be a good idea.
I have seen good costumes and hair! Mostly screenshots from things I keep meaning to watch but haven’t. Most often they’ll get some things right and some things wrong. For example, The Scandalous Lady W (which is one of the few I have seen!) has mostly well cut suits, but the sleeves on those military uniforms look horribly loose and modern. (Presumably they borrowed them from somewhere else for budget reasons?) The waistcoats are lovely, but they buttoned them all up too high. And there’s some great hair, and some awful hair.
Movies are weird and I don’t know how such a mixture of accurate and inaccurate happens!

It is important to use a blowdryer with a diffuser, and not to fluff or scrunch hair, as this produces frizz.

short haircuts ladies “Scene” hair is a style of haircut that involves short, choppy layers paired with long locks. Scene hair is often compared to “emo” hair, which has a similar look. One of the perks of layering your hair into a scene cut is that you don’t need to have long hair to begin with. Do-it-yourself hair extensions, found at any beauty supply store, allow you to start with virtually any length of hair to give yourself a scene cut.

short haircuts ladies While small earrings may seem like a natural choice if you’re trying to draw attention from the ears, tiny studs can actually make the surrounding lobes look larger. Instead, opt for hoop styles or danging earrings, which draw the eye downward away from the ears. Stick with lightweight jewelry, however, as heavy earrings elongate the lobes over time. If you use foundation on your face, you might create a contrast that makes your ears stand out. Instead, give your face a seamless look by also applying the base foundation you use on your face to your ears. This trick works especially well for minimizing ear size on film. short haircuts ladies

Communication with the groomer is of the utmost importance should you decide to go this route, as “short” to a groomer can mean anywhere from 1/4 of an inch to two inches long. There is also the “Lion Cut,” which is a compromise between short and long. With the mane long and fluffy, while the body is short, this is a stylish and convenient haircut. short haircuts ladies

Indian Fashion Industry
Vivid style patterns of India
With the finish of the twentieth century came the finish of all publicity which has established a more functional and practical climate and has given a more steady image of the style business.
During the 50s, 60s and 70s, the Indian style situation wasn't actually dreary. It was energizing, classy and extremely elegant. There were no creators, models, star or Dress configuration names that the nation could flaunt. The estimation of a piece of clothing was decided by its style and texture and not by who made it.
Tumblr media
It was viewed as stylish and in vogue to move toward any new tailor, who could make an article of clothing for a couple of rupees, giving the ideal fit, finish and style. The high society woman, who wore it, was pleased for getting a decent deal and for giving her name to the outcome.
In 60s, tight 'kurtas', 'churidars' and high hairstyles were a pattern among women. It was a time brimming with underhandedness and festivity in expressions and music and film, showed by freedom from limitation and acknowledgment of new kinds of materials, for example, plastic film and covered polyester texture.
The 70s saw an expansion in the fare of conventional materials outside the nation just as inside. Consequently, global design showed up in India much before the MTV culture with the intense tones, blossom prints and ringer bottoms. Fabricated materials turned stylish and the disco culture influenced the design situation.
It was in the mid 80s when the main style store 'Ravissant' opened in Mumbai. Around then pieces of clothing were retailed at a four-figure cost tag. The '80s was simply the time cognizance and American planners like Calvin Klein got famous. In India as well, outlines turned out to be more manly and the 'salwar kameez' was planned with shoulder braces.
With the advancement of fashioner stores in Mumbai, the exquisite style configuration culture was a pattern among Indians alongside their substantial sticker prices. Presumably that a piece of clothing with a weighty sticker price was at the base phase of design. In any case, customers quickly changed into the high style overlap where they were persuaded that that the word 'exquisite design configuration culture' signifies, it needed to have a more exorbitant cost tag.
Articles of clothing were sold at unimaginable costs simply because the creators had chosen to get themselves seen by making garish outfits and getting related with the correct shows, superstars and occasions.
Afterward, style shows moved to serious occasions each endeavoring to out-do the other in subject, list if people to attend and media inclusion. For any newcomer, the design business was the main expert workmanship that time.
During the 90's, the latest decade of the thousand years, a move towards the extraordinary blending down got back with ethnic wears (Today, ethnic wear market in India is accounted to Rs. 9000 crore). This prompted the decay and the downturn, the push to sell at any expense and continue remaining in the spotlight. With substantial ferocious rivalry and sound attention to the customer, the unavoidable happened. The sticker prices, which had once reached at a pinnacle, started their drawback venture.
At those occasions the slump was not exclusively being knowledgeable about the sticker prices of the articles of clothing, yet in addition occupied with style shows. More models, choreographers, make-up men, beauticians and architects gushed down into their business.
The fun and gathering time in the Indian design situation had not finished with this, yet proceeded. It was, where it came to at a specific consistent level and from that point, in the start of the 21st centaury, with new planners and models and some reasonable planning; the design publicity quickened its speed.
Indian design industry spreads its wings around the world
For the worldwide design industry, India is a major exporter of textures and extras. Everywhere on the world, Indian ethnic plans and materials are considered as a huge feature for the style houses and piece of clothing producers. In textures, while sourcing for design wear, India likewise assumes a fundamental function as perhaps the greatest part in the worldwide style field.
India's qualities rely upon its custom, yet in addition on its crude materials. World over, India is the third biggest maker of cotton, the second biggest maker of silk and the fifth biggest maker of man-made strands.
In the global market, the Indian article of clothing and texture businesses have numerous key perspectives that are agreeable, as far as cost adequacy to create, crude material, fast change for selling, and a wide scopes of inclination in the plans in the articles of clothing like with sequin, beadwork, aari or chikkon weaving and so forth, just as less expensive talented work power. India gives these style articles of clothing to the worldwide style houses at serious costs with more limited lead time and a successful syndication in plans which covers explained hand weaving - acknowledged world over.
India has consistently been considered as a default source in the weaved piece of clothing fragment, however the progressions of rupee against dollar has additionally diminished the costs, consequently drawing in purchasers. So the worldwide design houses leave with altered stuff, and in the end made works are sold at modest rates.
All things considered, the reaches accessible in India can pull in just as confound the purchaser. A fundamental critical desire in the picking of textures is the current pattern in the worldwide market. A significant part of the creation assignments occur in parts of the unassuming community of Chapa in the Eastern province of Bihar, a name one would have never at any point known about. Here texture making is a family industry, the reaches and nature of crude silks produced here give a false representation of the rough creation techniques and gear utilized tussars, matka silks, phaswas, and so on and they can plan it. Surat in Gujarat, is the provider of an astonishing arrangement of jacquards, greenery crepes and georgette sheers - all textures used to make amazing outlines requested world over. Another Indian texture plan that has been extraordinarily intended for the style history is the "Madras check" initially used for the general "Lungi" a basic lower body wrap worn in Southern India, this item has now crossed its way on to bandannas, shirts, home goods and practically anything one can consider.
As of late numerous originators have begun utilizing conventional Indian textures, plans and slices to improve their design assortments. Ethnic Indian plans with batik cravat, tie-and-color or vegetable square print is 'in' in India as well as all over the world.
In India, society weaving is constantly connected with ladies. It is a method of their self articulation, and they make plans that portray their local culture, their religion and their longings. Ladies weave garments for their own utilization, and individuals connected with the peaceful calling get ready weaved creature enrichments, improving covers for horns and brows and the Rabaris of Kutch in Gujarat do the absolute best weaving. Weaved pieces are made during the celebrations and relationships, which are appliqué work called 'Dharaniya'. One of the huge styles of Saurashtra is 'Heer' weaving, which has intense mathematical plans, woven on silks. The Mutwa ladies of the Banni region of Kutch have an intriguing weaving where they make fine weaving works with planned themes and mirrors in the size of pinheads, the Gracia jats utilize mathematical plans on the burden of long dresses. Besides, the best of blankets with appliqué work are additionally made in Kutch.
Articles of clothing adornment with globule work is another region where it sought after in the worldwide market. Dabs are utilized to get ready festoons and other embellishment things like belts and packs and these examples now accessible for high fashion evening wear as well.
As indicated by an overview, as of late Indian ladies have surrendered their conventional sari for western wears like shirts and shorts, as they feel more good in skirts and pants rather than saris and salwar kameez. It's been noticed that ladies spend just $165 million on pants and skirts against 1.74 billion dollars spent by men on pants. With more ladies coming out to work, the (consolidated) marked pant and skirts market has been expanding at an astounding 27 percent in deals terms. Ladies feel that Western attire is more reasonable, especially when working or utilizing public transportation. Numerous corporate workplaces are additionally for their representatives wearing Western wear.
In India, Western motivation is expanding because of the impact of TV and movies. In addition, shopping centers selling marked garments have likewise mushroomed in India and are interesting the youths. As of late, creator wear is being advanced through store chains, for example, Shopper's Stop, Pantaloons, Westside, and so forth Organizations, for example, Raymond and TCNS have additionally set up their restrictive stores for creator wear, for example, Be: and W.
The market of India style industry
As of late, a report expressed that the Indian style industry can increment from its total assets of Rs 200 crore to Rs 1,000 crore in the following five to ten years. Right now, the overall architect wear market is measured at $35 billion, with a 9 percent development rate, with the Indian style industry making scarcely 0.1 percent of the global business' total assets.
As per approximations, the all out attire market in India is determined to be about Rs 20,000 crore. The marked clothing business sector's size is almost one fourth of this or Rs 5,000 crore. Architect wear, thus, covers almost about 0.2 percent of the marked clothing market.
As of now, the biggest deals turnover inside the originator wear fragment is about Rs25 crore, with other notable names having less turnovers of Rs10-15 crore. Taking into account the possibilities of the Indian style industry for development, the figures are not cheerful.

The Real Superstars
Around the world, music is something we can all enjoy. A great example of a band that was, and still is, world renowned would be The Beatles. They became world famous, sold millions of records, had many radio hits, and were recognized almost anywhere they went. But were they superstars? Some would say yes, and some would say no. The simplest definition of what a superstar can be is someone who has great popular appeal and is widely known, prominent, or successful in some field. (Free Dictionary) According to that definition the Beatles were superstars, and yet they remain at superstar status. However, with that same definition, we could also say that the Jonas Brothers are of superstar status. But does this mean that the Jonas Brothers and The Beatles have the same level of fame? The truth behind what makes someone a superstar is hard to define because we each have our own personal taste in music. In addition, time plays an especially important role in the making of a superstar.
In my opinion, there are two main levels of superstardom: The bands and musicians that obtain the title of superstar, and the bands and musicians that have been superstars for so long that they preceded superstardom and became legends. Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Elvis; they are examples of musical legends known almost universally, either by their name, or by their music. Time gave them the ability to master their musical skills. They affected and effected society and culture, they were innovators and they were popular. Even to this day, artists such as Bob Dylan are still on the music scene, still making music, and are still superstars. Next are exceptions to the superstar title, like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, or Brittney Spears. They were superstars for a time, then had a downfall, and lost a part of that glorious superstar status. They stayed famous, but it was not the same, so each planned on making a comeback. Sometimes they would succeed, and sometimes they did not. Michael Jacksons’ planned comeback was cut short by his death, but his death reminded the world of him and his title as “King of Pop” was restored to some of its glory.
Over time, the definition of someone as a star, in terms of music, has changed. In the days when radio being the number one source for music, the number of times you heard a band mentioned and its single played on the radio was how teenagers knew that it was a popular song. The popularity of the song itself made the band popular and gave teens the idea that this band had it going on and was hip. This is how teenagers used to define a superstar. Teenagers were the target for the bands production companies. The companies wanted to get teens to buy their records, which would increase the sale of that band’s product. Marketing companies defined a superstar by how many records they could sell. Elvis is a good example. As his popularity grew, Elvis merchandise was everywhere: Elvis lunchboxes, Elvis mugs… Elvis’s market value rose, and he became an American sensation.
This way of defining a superstar by how many records a band or musical artist sold was carried on into the 60’s and 70’s. Gradually, cultural changes, changes in the music industry, and the increase of different media outlets played a new role in what defined a musical superstar.
The next generation of music in the eighties was thrust into the public’s eye through entertainment shows, such as Entertainment Tonight and television channels like MTV. Music videos played a huge part in showcasing an artists’ style. Fashion became a new way of defining a musician, which increased their fan base. Musicians became role models for teenagers, even more so then they did back in the 60’s or 70’s. Everything from the singer’s hairstyles to the always changing fashion to the mannerisms of a band or musician was copied by teenagers. Retail sales became an important part of the artists marketing. This included make-up, colognes, and hair products, jewelry lines, and accessories. Madonna and Michael Jackson were most copied by teenagers and this gave them an additional level of stardom, because they became role models, trend-sitters, and looked cool. But their music seemed to come second to the fashions they adopted, even as CD sales rose. Madonna’s and Michael’s status levels became blurred between their musical abilities and their fashion sense in the 80’s.
When the internet was just beginning to take off, musical artists were taking another avenue to expose themselves to a wider audience. David Bowie and Sting were among the first to utilize the internet. They created their own websites and allowed their fans to access their music directly from the web. They could post photos, update their tour schedule, sell their products online, and keep in touch with their fans through e-mail. If this reminds you of anything, then it should Myspace.
MySpace is changing the nature of musical stardom, turning it, however slightly, away from the real and toward the virtual. (Weiner) The easy ability to get out music that Myspace created for musicians was at first subtle. Most of the band websites on Myspace were dominated by mainstream musicians, until Tila Tequila and Jeffree Star came along. They were some of the first people who were basically nobodies in the music industry, then found stardom simply by posting a couple of songs on Myspace and then adding as many people, and bands, as they could to promote themselves. Tila Tequila eventually landed her own show on tv called A Shot at Love, were she has men and woman compete for a chance to date her, but now she is yesterdays news. Jeffree Star however has maintained his level of stardom by creating new music and is playing shows at warped tour, which is a big deal for a guy who had no fame until myspace came around. Other bands like Panic at the Disco got their break by utilizing the internet. They posted songs on Myspace and sent links that lead to their site to label companies. Fall Out Boys’ Pete Wentz signed Panic at the Disco to his label, Fueled by Ramen, because of what he heard them play on myspace. Now you see many bands following the same footsteps. They rely on Myspace for promoting and marketing themselves. Some of these musicians started out unsigned and unknown, and then Myspace gave them the chance to expand. But does having all those profile views and all those Myspace friends give them the right to be called superstars? It all depends on their fans. However, Myspace stardom is hard to be compared to the stardom of the mainstream acts. I haven’t seen a Jeffree Star or Tila Tequila song rise to the top of any charts, I haven’t seen their music videos on MTV, VH1, or Fuse, and I haven’t heard of them receiving any awards in any major award shows. Well, I have seen Panic at the Disco songs make it in the charts, and their video for I Write Sins Not Tragedies used to be played on a lot of music channels. In 2006, their video almost won an award on MTV’s VMA award show but lost to AFI’s Miss Murder. Fast forward three years and, wow, Panic at the Disco is no longer a band. They broke up due to “differences in the band”. It seems like not all Myspace bands are made to last long…
In this generation bands come and go quickly without leaving a huge mark in musical history. They have one or two singles that are successful, and then they disappear, and the songs are forgotten. One-hit wonders have always been in the music world, but it seems like there are more in my generation. These musicians are given a taste of what superstar status could be, but they fall short by never having consistent hits, and then they are seemed to be forgotten by the mainstream. A bands one hit wonder song might be remembered, but not so for the band. Eye of Tiger by Survivor is my favorite example of a one-hit wonder. I love that song, but the band means nothing to me. I only own that one song. It appears that some people buy only one song from an artist without caring to listen to the artists other songs. These are current one-hit wonders; that one pop song that we download and listen to for a month then leave it for the next hottest song. Some of us do that to the superstars too. When a new album comes out by some famous musician, we pick and choose the songs we individually like. I did this to David Bowie’s music, Lady Gaga’s album, “The Fame” and the new Jay-z album, “The Blueprint 3”. I own songs by them, but once I get bored with them, I will look up new music and eventually forget about the popular artists, unless they keep the hits coming.
The radio is not as important now for most consumers my age and younger. Some people prefer the alternative scene, or the underground music scene, and do not usually care about mainstream music, or they see it as a joke compared to music that they feel is real. They want music that is not popular. Instead they want music that only they, and other kids in their scene, can appreciate and love. They may loathe admitting it, but their underground bands and musicians are superstars in their own scene, and it is not unusual for them to maybe one day become a mainstream act. In fact, AFI was a band that started out punk back in the 90’s, then grew into the mainstream when they switched labels from an underground label, Nitro, to a more mainstream label, Universal Studios. Their single, “Miss Murder”, reached number one on the billboard chart, along with their album, “Decemberunderground”. Now AFI is a recognized pop-rock band, yet they maintained their punk stardom with their lifelong fans. Conor Oberst, also known as Bright Eyes, is an extremely famous musician in the indie scene, while also recognized in the mainstream. He might not be a mainstream superstar with his singles reaching the top of the charts, but in the indie scene he is a star.
Another new way of seeking musical stardom is through the ever popular “American Idol”. The show has to its credit Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, and many more. They have been able to keep their name popular and keep the hits coming. The most recent “American Idol” runner-up, Adam Lambert, had more fame than the winner, Kris Allen. But I think it was because the public was more interested in Adam’s personal life rather than his musical talent. Some people think he is the coolest glam rocker ever, while others think he needs to stop performing. When Adam Lambert released his single, “For Your Entertainment”, it was highly anticipated, but only stayed on the billboard chart for a short while. The American Idol that has been in the game the longest is Kelly Clarkson. After winning American Idol, she was pigeonholed as simply a creation of television, but when she released “Breakaway”, she showed the world that she had what it took to be a superstar. Thankfully, the album was full of hits and it gave Clarkson her rightful place in mainstream music. Now, she is still making music and keeps her face in the public’s eye. She might not be considered a superstar elsewhere in the world, but she has earned superstar status in America.
There seems to be a trend among the famous that once some reach superstar status, the public wants to know everything about them. We become more obsessed with an artist’s personal life than in their music. At least that is the way it is with paparazzi and gossip shows like TMZ. These shows feed from the flaws of those who are famous. But are their flaws worth all the time the media invests in them? Does their fame contribute anything to the music world, or to anyone? Or are superstars’ just easy targets for the tabloids? It is all based on which bands and musicians we think deserve the limelight and which ones are deserving of the gutter.
Since we each have our own personal taste in music, it is hard to define who we each consider has musical talent. A thirteen-year-old girl might look up to Hannah Montana as a superstar. My mom, who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, might consider Hannah Montana as a joke, and regard Jimi Hendrix as having true talent. While talent is important, it sometimes does not have to play a part in the making of a superstar. A great example is Paris Hilton, who has dabbled in the music industry, but she is not famous for being a singer. She is famous for simply being Paris Hilton; the good looking, party-girl daughter of the rich Mr. Hilton. She fits the definition of that a superstar is, by being widely known, but some do not believe she deserves it.
The complexity of defines someone a superstar comes down to our own likes and dislikes. We could define these musicians as not required to be a superstar to be successful in the field and vice versa, a superstar does not necessarily have to be a good musician. A superstar may just be well marketed, have a more interesting personal life than the music they create, which gives them fame, or have a moment of superstardom. Myspace and other internet websites may have given some the fame they wanted, but those artists usually cannot compete with long-running musical legends or the mainstream. Finally, as each new generation comes in new music will follow. Music is always changing. The scene is always changing. The attitude and fashion behind the music is constantly changing. But the artists who have time invested into their music, are still making music, and are still affecting and effecting our culture and society are the real superstars. The superstars who will remain in our hearts forever.

Before politics completely prevents it, here’s another album that was not made in America, but in the land out back, down under, but not in the upside down- Australia!  There’s not much more to add, so to the music we go!
The Music

The Tune:  “Decidedly”
Recorded: 1960 in Sydney, Australia
Personnel:
Don Burrows-  Clarinet
Dave Rutledge-  Tenor Sax
Terry Wilkinson-  Piano
Freddy Logan-  Bass
Ron Webber-  Drums
https://raggywaltz.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/down-the-mine.wav
The Tune:  “Down The Mine”
Recorded:  Same as above
Personnel:  Same as above
Full disclosure- I admit that I’m not as hip as you may think.  I had no idea who the Australian All Stars were, not to mention what a surf-nik was.  I simply picked this album up at the store because of the album’s cover art.  That proved to be a good move, as my ears would later thank me.  The music is fantastic, swinging jazz like some of the better West Coast music from the mid and late 50’s (I looked it up and discovered that Sydney is in fact on the East Coast, which makes me wonder what the jazz scene over in Perth was/is like).
The Australian All Stars were a group of mostly native Australians, headed by multi-reedman Don Burrows.  Burrows was a famous Australian jazz musician most well-known for his clarinet playing and enjoyed wide success in his home country as well as abroad in America.  He’s still around in Sydney, too.  In the 50’s and 60’s he was in or led numerous combos, including this one, which featured other musicians well-known to hip Australian jazz fans.  The bassist is the sole member who wasn’t born in Australia, instead hailing from Amsterdam.  All the fellas are more than solid jazz players, with Ron Webber’s drumming proving particularly tasty and supportive.  Dave Rutledge sounds like he’s been listening to lots of Lester Young and Bill Perkins.  Pianist Terry Wilkinson plays with punch and restraint, which doesn’t quite make sense until you hear him.  The last track on this album is a trio feature that adequately explains what ‘punchy restraint’ sounds like.  None of the tracks are over four minutes, which is kind of a drag at times only because the one-chorus solos that make up most of the performances are tantalizingly short.  I want to hear them stretch out a bit!
On Gerry Mulligan’s original tune “Decidedly”, everyone gets a chance to solo.  This album made realize how potent the clarinet could be in the right hands.  Maybe it’s because of the big band guys like Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, or perhaps the Dixieland jazz guys, but I usually think of the clarinet as not a serious jazz instrument.  Don Burrows has caused me to reassess that.  In modern jazz settings, the clarinet’s reedy, breathy and earthy sound meshes well with the more advanced voicings and harmonies.  Burrows and Rutledge don’t limit themselves to just the clarinet and tenor sax respectively.  Not at all.  While Rutledge picks up the flute here and there, Burrows manages to pick up the flute, alto sax, and baritone sax in addition to his clarinet, sometimes on the same track.  Ron Falson’s “Down The Mine” is a catchy little tune and has some tasty playing by Burrows and some pocket brushwork from Webber.  Wilkinson gets a brief spot in the sun before the brief arrangement takes the tune out.  Falson, by the way, is yet another Australian jazz musician who was quite popular during his lifetime.
As usual, jazz records are not as straight-forward as they appear, and this album has a confusing and mysterious background.  For more on this, I turn to Raggy Waltz staff researcher and scholar in residence, Dr. Hiptwostuff, or Dr. H for short.
Information on this album is rather sparse and hard to come by.  When was it recorded?   It’s not mentioned in the liner notes, and numerous Googles turned up conflicting info.  A Discogs entry only said 1960, while a brief post on a surfing blog said it was released in 1962.  What Discogs did make clear, however, was that there were two versions of this album released in 1960.  It seems that while the record was released in the States by Bethlehem Records as ‘Jazz For Surf-niks’ the album was released in Australia with a different record label, altered title, slightly different cover, and with an added song. In Australia, the album was released on the European label EMI, which was called Columbia.  No relation to CBS and the American Columbia.  This album was called ‘Jazz For Beach-niks’, and the title wasn’t as conspicuously-emblazoned across the cover as the American counterpart, instead placed neatly in the top left portion of the cover.  I guess the American term for a beach-nik is surf-nik?
Tumblr media
And what the hail IS a beach-nik anyhow?  I did some research (for that is what they pay me for) and turned up this definition on Urban Dictionary, which is like Webster’s Dictionary, but for the streets and the hip.  According to the Urban Dictionary, a beach-nik is a “cool turn of the Millennia culture which is a cross between beachbum and beatnik.”  If that sounded negative, that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Continuing with the definition, Urban Dictionary explains that although they think people with real jobs are crazy, “[t]he group is generally educated, and cares about issues effecting this and future generations.”  In other words, it seems that a beachnik is a hipster that’s actually kinda hip and prefers to be at the beach, aka Californians on a global scale.  In the parlance of the cool kids, I can dig it.
As for that song that’s on the Australian (and thus all of the European pressings?) pressing of this album, it’s an original blues performance that clocks in at a whopping eight minutes and 45 seconds entitled “Sky Lounge Blues”.  Why this track was left off the American version, I don’t know.  It’s a shame too, as it has some of the gutsiest playing on the album, with a particularly feisty piano solo by Mr. Wilkinson.  A word about that performance.  It’s eight minutes and 45 seconds on the vinyl album.  On the version that’s online, it fades out around seven and a half minutes in.  Again, the reasoning for this has been lost to the mists of history.  It appears that the only way to hear this record in its entirety is to find a European pressing.  In closing, here’s “Sky Lounge Blues”, minus a minute and fifteen seconds.  Back to Tarik!
The Cover
Tumblr media
Raggy Waltz Rating:  A
I truly love the album cover art on this album, although after seeing the Australian/European version of the album, I like that one better than this one.  The titling and font and quantity of both is a bit much here, particularly that “Vivid Sound” proclamation at the bottom.  The photograph itself is kinda hip, delightfully retro.  From an aesthetics perspective, it’s a fun picture, successfully capturing the sunny, carefree, summer vibes of being at the beach.  The two young ladies in the foreground are completely turn-of-the-century, from their hairstyles to their bathing suits.  I wonder what the girl is whispering to her friend?  “Let’s look like we’re saying something.”  “I call dibs on the guy with the white shirt, Marsha.”  “Hey, Jan.  Why is there a saxophone on the beach?”  We’ll never know.  Interestingly, Ron Falson, the same dude who wrote and arranged a couple of tunes on the album, also took the picture.
As for the dudes with the surf boards, they look timeless.  Well, the guy with the blue shorts does, anyhow.  I haven’t seen too many dudes wearing capri pants to the beach.  Now that I think of it, I haven’t seen too many dudes wearing capri pants period…  It’s a good look though here.  And how about those surf boards!  Their prominence on the cover was no accident; it was a clever plug for Gordon Woods, a surf board maker, who gets an additional plug on the back of the album.  The guys holding the boards are members of the South Pacific Surf Riders Club, qualifying them to be card-carrying members of the beach-nik/surf-nik culture.  All in all, this is great cover art for a jazz album with the beach theme.  The only issue, of course, is…
The Back
Tumblr media
…what’s the beach theme about, exactly?  There’s no obvious tie to the beach or the ocean mentioned on the album, and the song list doesn’t really have anything to do with the beach, either.  Hmmm.  I feel like there’s a joke I’m not getting, because surely they wouldn’t go all out with the surf-nik/beach-nik schtick and there not be a reason for it…  Maybe it’s culturally-tied joke, something that people in the early 1960’s would have understood that people like myself in 2018 wouldn’t get.  Obviously, it’s a play on the whole ‘beatnik’ term, so maybe this is a playful poke at the beatniks?  From what I know, beatniks were something of a punchline to many people in the 1950’s and early 60’s, with much of the American public being rather infatuated and captivated by them thanks to people like Jack Kerouac.  I’m going to assume that’s what this ‘surf-nik/beach-nik’ business is all about.
Oh, and there’s no liner notes.  Just short bios on all the guys in the group.  Which of course is no good if you wanted to know about the music and the making-of.  To add insult to injury, the anonymous writer of the bios includes a reference to that blues tune “Sky Lounge Blues” that, contrary to what they say, is NOT present in this set.  Hmph.
The Vinyl
The lack of a deep groove makes me wonder if this album was in fact pressed and released in 1962.  These are classic mono Bethlehem labels, pressed on thick and heavy vinyl.  As for high fidelity, “vivid sound”, it’s a big ‘eh’.  The high fidelity comes and goes with different tracks, implying different methods for each recording session.  It doesn’t say who’s behind the sound controls here, but the sound quality differs from track to track, with sound ranging from fine to yikes.  On one or two of the tracks, it sounds like the horn players are standing out in the hallway of the studio.  On others, the piano strings sound like there’s something caught in them, producing a weird, buzzy sound.  It’s a shame, because the music itself is good.
Interestingly, there doesn’t seem to be any stereo pressings of this album.  Indeed, the tracks that have made their way to MP3 are still in mono.  What’s going on with this album?  It appears that this group only made two albums.  Perhaps an Australian reader or anybody more knowledgeable can help fill in some of the gaps or provide more info on this group and these albums?
The Place of Acquisition
This record was one of the first few albums I bought when I discovered my local record shop here in Huntsville.  Flipping through the new jazz arrivals, the cover jumped out at me.  Feeling somewhat homesick for California, I grabbed the sunny album before I realized it was by Australians.  Upon reading that the group was called the Australian All Stars, my curiosity was piqued.  Upon reading that record was under $10, my wallet was opened.  As the record store owner rang me up, he looked at the record and asked me what beach jazz sounded like.  “Is it, like, jazz with ocean sounds and seagulls calling in the background or something?”, he asked.  I almost said no, but I had no idea what the record sounded like, so I told him I don’t really know but I’d let him know.  In retrospect, that’s a great inference, and one that kinda makes sense. Now that I think about it, that would be an interesting jazz album…
In an attempt to appeal to a broader audience, this group made an album not for beatniks, but a neglected demographic. It's Jazz For Surf-niks, Vol.2 // The Australian All-Stars (Bethlehem BCP 6073) Before politics completely prevents it, here's another album that was not made in America, but in the land out back, down under, but not in the upside down- Australia!

Types Of Western Dresses & Accessories To Complement
Tumblr media
One of the best things about summer is the freedom it gives especially when it comes to wearing dresses. This is the season you can rock that little pretty dress that you have been saving all along. Summer dresses can be worn to weddings, beach vacations or even semi-formal events and parties. You will enjoy as much freedom with the Men suit shoes too in summer, hence pulling off that look you have always wanted with your cute summer dress is easy. However, you always should ensure that you choose a dress that works for your body type. A few pointers will help you do just that so you step out confidently and in style.
Summer dresses for apple shaped women
If you are an apple, it means that your weight is more around the middle and this means you need to choose dresses that loosely fit especially around the tummy. You can show off legs and arms, but let the dress flow to conceal your midsection. Avoid spandex dresses that are figure hugging because they will end up emphasizing your tummy which is what you are trying to avoid.
Summer dresses for rectangle shaped women
This body shape tends to be straight up and down, meaning there is really not much difference between the width of the hips and bust and waist. There is no obvious waist with this shape and a dress with volume in the right places should be the way to go. Illusion dresses will work leather jackets  for this look because they create curves and slim the shoulders. Look for a dress that has ruffles around the neckline and one with a bottom that is voluminous like a skater dress.
Summer dresses for hourglass shaped women
If you fall in this category, then you are in luck because it means you can rock any type of dress you wish. This body shape has a well-defined waist and all you have to do is highlight your curves with a dress that shows off this slim point. Belted summer dresses will work amazingly well with this shape; you can also go for dresses that emphasize the waistline. If you want to turn heads and look irresistible, go for a figure hugging dress to flaunt the curves.
Summer dresses for pear shaped women
This body type tends to carry a little more weight sherwani on the thighs and hips with a trim waist and shoulders that are shapely. You therefore want a dress that draws the attention up. Empire dresses and A-line summer dresses will suit this body best. As for the neckline, you can go for cowl, halter or boat neck to look just as fabulous. You want to stay away from peplum, dresses and body-con dresses as they will only bring attention to the lower part of your body. Sleeveless styles can also work and full skirts will help disguise any bumps and lumps you may not be very confident with if you are a pear.If there could be an award for the most forgiving item in a woman's closet, it would definitely be maxi dresses. It is the perfect beach cover up and an ideal workplace dress. Versatility is where the dresses for women win all the brownie points. So at least that part's taken care of! Floor sweeping styles always work great in order to reflect class or your dainty cool leather jackets  mood of the day. For daytime dos, cotton crinkles are great but avoid them if you have to make some strong impressions at the workplace. The floaty chiffons and georgettes are reserved for that department. Any cocktail dinners or marriage functions can also be graced with these dresses. Just clench that flowy and shiny silhouette with a metallic belt and that dress would be no less resplendent than a gown. A thigh-high slit is for the bold and beautiful. Get playful with prints. If we weren't so interested in maths at school, doesn't mean we can't try out the geometrical patterns in maxi dresses. Off shoulder dresses are great if you want to bare your shoulders and sun-dress up! And how can we forget to recommend you the ever-so-stylish body con dresses. It's time to highlight those curves you've worked so hard to achieve. You have a great room for hits and trials with a maxi dress. The same maxi can be accessorized in many ways, and each look would work. We can't think of any reason how anyone could go wrong with them!
Styling cues to always remember!
For all maxi dresses, a statement neckpiece biker leather jackets  with matching footwear would be good add-ons. Dresses are not just all-occasion but also all-season wears. You could transition into fall seamlessly as you layer your maxi with a cardigan or jacket with boots. Bohemian tassels always make a great pair with a maxi so shrug it up and further add on with ankle length booties and hat to make heads turn. Strike the unadulterated casual appeal with shirt dresses. You will be looking cute as a button in a shirt dress combined with sneakers and a low bun hairstyle. Satin maxi dresses or other wrap styles could be your OOTD for a formal setting where the social gathering could be for a cause or a celebration. Casting a spell right away with maxi dresses would be easy. Just try it!

The "Cat Person" story has got the internet talking, and here's what they're saying
http://fashion-trendin.com/the-cat-person-story-has-got-the-internet-talking-and-heres-what-theyre-saying/
The "Cat Person" story has got the internet talking, and here's what they're saying
You have probably read the ‘Cat Person’ short story, published in the New Yorker earlier this week. The story revolves around one woman’s experience with an older man, exploring an unpleasant sexual encounter and her discomfort following the date.
The story has been shared thousands of times, and women all over the world are collectively sighing in joint exasperation, having had their own experiences with a ‘Cat Person’.
Maybe if you can’t relate to ‘Cat Person’ it’s because you are not a woman who has ever been on a date with a man.
— Meghan Murphy (@MeghanEMurphy) December 11, 2017
Many agree that it has brought to attention the fact that unsatisfying sex for women is an unfortunate byproduct of sexism….
I don’t think straight men will ever be able to full appreciate how mediocre sex is for women with dudes most of the time even under the BEST circumstances. We have learned to enjoy orgasm free sex as the norm. #CatPerson
— PrincessPowerHour (@melinapendulum) December 12, 2017
men: women just aren’t that into sex! they don’t like sex!
women: i relate to cat person bc most of the time sex with men involves him enjoying it a lot and not caring enough to be aware of whether or not i’m enjoying it at all
men: lol women just don’t like sex like men do
— Lane Moore (@hellolanemoore) December 12, 2017
hahahah wow just read Cat Person. Welcome, everyone, to what it’s like being a young woman having sex in her early 20s
— Holly Green (@winnersusedrugs) December 13, 2017
Personally, I think Cat Person went viral for three reasons. First of all, it’s a witty, insightful, unpretentious short story. Second, it addressed a taboo issue that felt timely: a type of terrible sex that isn’t rape, but is tied to sexism.
— Emily Nussbaum (@emilynussbaum) December 11, 2017
Told a male friend last night that most women have had a weird sex experience like the character in #CatPerson and he was appalled.
Art imitates life…and women’s daily lives✌🏼
— Alessandra (@DrSanjeGupta) December 12, 2017
People have also commented on how oblivious (many) men are to the fact that they have *probably* shown ‘Cat Person’ qualities at some point.
“Man, Id hate to be that guy” -The guy who Cat Person is about reading Cat Person.
— Jesse McLaren (@McJesse) December 12, 2017
MEN WHO DON’T REALIZE THEY ARE THE CAT PERSON ARE WHY THIS FUCKING STORY WAS WRITTEN.
— lady balk (@mollzlols) December 11, 2017
Many readers have hailed the story for the fact that it’s actually started a conversation about fiction, and has encouraged more people to read.
My controversial opinion about “Cat Person” is that it’s nice to see people reading and debating literary short fiction on the internet.
— Porg Merch S-Corp (for tax purposes) (@petersuderman) December 12, 2017
So I read Cat Person and I have some mixed feelings about it. Still processing. But I can say this: It’s thought provoking, which is never a bad thing. I love seeing people discussing fiction so passionately.
— Rachel Foucar (@RachelFoucar) December 12, 2017
If cat person has taught us anything it should be that discussing literature is a blast and everyone should read more
— some kind of super soup wizard (@spacymcfly) December 12, 2017
However, there was a recurring theme in the story that the main character was turned off by the man due to his body type. Readers feel that it was fat-shaming, and unnecessary to have chosen his weight as a reason to be repulsed.
I do think the fat-shaming in the cat person piece was unnecessary. It would have been enough to say she was put off by his clumsiness or the way he spoke to her or that she just wasn’t attracted to him for unspecified reasons.
— Jess Fink 🌈🔥 (@JessFink) December 12, 2017
oh. my. god. “Cat Person” is truly a modern work of art.
i was a lil mad about the fat shaming though–why offer to fuck a visibly overweight person if you’re going to “recoil in disgust” at the sight of their belly?
— clitzen the reindeer (@leiawhoredan) December 11, 2017
Cat person is fat-shaming. It need to be but it was, the story could’ve been the same without making fat-rolls a turn-off. Stop touting it as a “great story” when it makes people (like me) feel like shit.
— Geneva Valek (@GenevaValek) December 11, 2017
We love the story, and commend anything that gets people talking about their real life experiences with uncomfortable encounters. If there’s one thing 2017 has taught us, it’s that it’s painfully common for women to have felt pressured or unhappy with certain experiences – and if this starts a new conversation, then we’re all for it. The full story can be read on the New Yorker website.
