last night i watched going all the way. the way i think this movie would have fundamentally rocked me if i had seen it as a teenager.

quiet sheltered kid Sonny is taken under the wing of the handsome and charming jock Gunner. Gunner shows Sonny the world of girls, art and living life to it's fullest.

i see a lot of my young self in Sonny. Reserved, always worried about what everyone thinks of him, quiet. doesn't know how to act when his comfort extrovert isn't around.

and gunner. god what a character. he sees sonny and is immediately enamored by him. they spend a whole train ride home drinking, smoking and getting to know each other before they get back to their home town. once home, he ditches all of his old friends to only hang out with sonny. when he leaves to follow a girl to new york while sonny is recovering he sends all these postcards about how he misses sonny and needs him with him in new york.

if this movie had been made 20 years later, they would have been together. extremely gay movie for being made in 1997

5/5 stars. will watch again.

hmm!!! i've never thought of this before. i suppose, with festus' family having ties to d7 he could have visited a few times while growing up? but, i couldn't really see a capitol boy not being ridiculed if he had any relations to the districts. for that reason i don't think him and lamina could have relations, as it would mean festus would be treated so differently to how he's treated in canon.

could be a cool idea for modern aus, tho!
