sometimes you read a book for school in 4th grade about a cockroach that wakes up as a human one day. And you find the book interesting and seek out a least one sequel; an even stranger story that involves characters bonding over their love of butterfingers. And this story becomes just "part of your childhood" that you assume most people aren't familiar with
then, 15-20 years later, you see tumblr posts about human/cockroach transformations, written to imply that the story they're referencing had a broad cultural impact. And you reevaluate - made that strange story was common knowledge afterwards!
eventually you realize that they are referring to a story about a man turning into a cockroach and that it was written 100 years before the book you remember, because the book you remember was actually conceptually based on the short story
it doesn't help that there's a side character in the book named after the main character in the short story
#I need to look up the Shoebag books again#because they were great#but so weird#and I imagine they're going to be even weirder to read as an adult#...at some point I should probably read the Kafka story too...#secondary goal

Shoe Bag: Footsteps in Time
Hello Friends, today I brought something different to read called... Shoe Bag. Are you tired of rummaging through piles of shoes whenever you need to find the perfect pair? Do you dread the smell of dirty shoes permeating your closet? If so, it's time to invest in a shoe bag. Today, we will explore the world of shoe bags and how they can revolutionize how you store and protect your footwear. We have covered you, from different types and materials to essential features and creative uses. So, let's dive in and discover the wonders of shoe bags! Introduction Definition of a Shoe Bag A shoe bag is a specialized storage accessory designed to keep your shoes organized, protected, and easily accessible. It is typically a portable bag that can accommodate one or multiple pairs of shoes, depending on size and design. Importance of a Shoe Bag Shoes are not just functional; they also play a significant role in our style and self-expression. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain them properly to ensure their longevity and pristine condition. A shoe bag provides an effective solution for organizing and protecting your footwear collection, whether at home or on the go. Benefits of Using a Shoe Bag Keeps Shoes Organized and Protected One of the primary advantages of using a shoe bag is that it helps keep your shoes in order. Instead of scattering them around your closet or tossing them into a suitcase haphazardly, a shoe bag provides a designated space for each pair. This organization saves you time and prevents unnecessary damage caused by mishandling or overcrowding. Prevents Dirt and Odor from Spreading Shoes can accumulate dirt, dust, and unpleasant odor's over time. When left unattended, these contaminants can transfer to other belongings, potentially tarnishing their cleanliness and freshness. By storing your shoes in a dedicated shoe bag, you create a barrier that contains any dirt or odour within the bag, protecting your other belongings from contamination. Convenient for Travel and Storage Whether you are a frequent traveler or need to store seasonal footwear, a shoe bag offers unparalleled convenience. Its compact and lightweight design allows for easy packing in suitcases or storage in closets, saving valuable space. Moreover, some shoe bags have additional features such as handles or hanging hooks, making them more travel-friendly and versatile. Types of Shoe Bags Regarding shoe bags, several options are available to cater to different needs and preferences. Let's explore the most common types: Drawstring Shoe Bags Drawstring shoe bags are simple yet effective in their design. They feature a drawstring closure that allows quick and easy access to your shoes while keeping them securely enclosed. These bags are often made of lightweight materials and are perfect for casual or everyday shoes. Zippered Shoe Bags Zippered shoe bags offer enhanced protection and security. With a full-length zipper, these bags completely enclose your shoes, shielding them from dust, moisture, and other external elements. Zippered shoe bags are available in various sizes that suit both formal & casual footwear. Hanging Shoe Organizers Hanging shoe organizers are a practical choice for those with limited storage space. These bags typically feature multiple compartments or pockets that accommodate several pairs of shoes. They come with hooks or hangers, allowing you to hang them in closets or behind doors, maximizing vertical space utilization. Material Choices for Shoe Bags The material of a shoe bag plays a crucial role in its durability, breathability, and overall performance. Let's explore some common material choices: Canvas Shoe Bags Canvas shoe bags are popular due to their sturdiness and breathability. The tightly woven fabric allows air circulation, preventing moisture build-up and maintaining the freshness of your shoes. Canvas bags are also known for their durability and resistance to wear and tear. Nylon Shoe Bags Nylon shoe bags are lightweight, water-resistant, and easy to clean. They provide excellent protection against moisture and are suitable for travel or outdoor activities. Nylon bags often come with additional features like mesh panels for enhanced breathability. Mesh Shoe Bags Mesh shoe bags are ideal for those looking for maximum breathability. The open-weave construction of mesh allows ample airflow, reducing the risk of mould or mildew formation. These bags are especially suitable for storing sports shoes or damp footwear that needs to dry out. Features to Look for in a Shoe Bag Several features can significantly enhance a shoe bag's functionality and convenience. Some of them are as follows: Size and Capacity Ensure that the shoe bag you select can accommodate your shoes comfortably. Consider the number of pairs you intend to store and choose a bag that can accommodate them without overcrowding. Breathability Proper ventilation is crucial to prevent moisture build-up and the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Look for shoe bags with breathable materials or additional ventilation features to ensure optimal airflow. Durability A shoe bag should withstand regular use and offer long-term protection for your shoes. Opt for bags made from durable materials and with reinforced stitching for enhanced durability. Design and Style While functionality is essential, there's no reason why your shoe bag can't be stylish too. Choose a design that aligns with your taste and complements your overall aesthetic. How to Choose the Right Shoe Bag With the vast array of options available, choosing the right shoe bag can be overwhelming. Consider the following tips to make an informed decision: Consider Your Needs and Preferences Evaluate your specific requirements regarding shoe storage. Are you looking for a bag for everyday use or travel? Do you need a bag with compartments for the organization? You can narrow down your options and find the perfect shoe bag by understanding your needs. Determine the Number of Shoes to Store Take an inventory of your shoe collection and determine the approximate number of pairs you need to store. This will help you select a shoe bag with the appropriate size and capacity. Assess the Type of Shoes You Own Consider the types of shoes you own, including their size, style, and material. Some shoes, such as high heels or boots, may require more extensive or specialized shoe bags to accommodate their unique characteristics. Evaluate the Intended Use of the Shoe Bag Decide whether you need a shoe bag for everyday storage or specific occasions like travel. This will influence the features you prioritize, such as portability, water resistance, or extra compartments. Tips for Using a Shoe Bag Effectively Once you have chosen the perfect shoe bag, make the most of its functionality with these helpful tips: Clean Shoes Before Storing Before placing your shoes in the bag, clean them thoroughly. Remove any dirt or debris and allow them to dry completely. This ensures that your shoes stay fresh and prevents dirt from spreading within the bag. Keep Shoe Pairs Together Store shoe pairs together in the bag to save time and avoid mismatching. This makes finding and retrieving the shoes you want to wear easier, especially in a hurry. Utilize Compartments or Pockets If your shoe bag has compartments or pockets, use them for added organization. Separate different shoe types or accessories within the bag to keep everything neatly arranged. Use Shoe Bags for Other Purposes Shoe bags are not limited to storing shoes alone. Get creative and use them to organize other items like socks, belts, or small accessories during travel. The versatility of shoe bags allows for endless possibilities. Creative Uses of Shoe Bags Shoe bags can serve more purposes than just storing shoes. Here are some creative ways to make the most of your shoe bag: Organizing Accessories and Small Items Use shoe bags to keep your accessories and small items like scarves, gloves, or hats in one place. The compartments or pockets of the bag can help separate different items, making it easier to find what you need. Separating Clean and Dirty Laundry During Travel When travelling, use a shoe bag to separate your clean clothes from the dirty ones. This prevents cross-contamination and maintains the freshness of your clean clothes. Protecting Delicate Items in Luggage Place delicate or breakable items in your luggage, such as perfume bottles or glass souvenirs, in a shoe bag for extra protection. The bag's padding and secure closure will help cushion and shield these items from potential damage. Maintenance and Care for Shoe Bags To ensure the longevity of your shoe bag, follow these maintenance and care guidelines: Cleaning Instructions for Different Materials Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for cleaning instructions specific to the material of your shoe bag. Some bags may be machine washable, while others require handwashing or spot cleaning. Storage Recommendations Store it in a dry and well-ventilated area when not in use. Avoid storing it in humid environments or under direct sunlight, as this can degrade the bag's material over time. Alternatives to Shoe Bags While shoe bags offer excellent functionality, there are alternative storage solutions you can consider: Shoe Boxes Shoe boxes are a classic and cost-effective option for shoe storage. They provide sturdy protection and allow for easy stacking. However, they may require more space compared to shoe bags. DIY Storage Solutions Design your shoe storage solutions using everyday items like plastic bins, cardboard dividers, or hanging organizers. DIY options allow for customization and can be tailored to fit your unique space and shoe collection. FAQs Can I wash my shoe bag? Yes, the cleaning instructions for your shoe bag will depend on the material. Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific cleaning instructions. Are shoe bags only suitable for travel? No, shoe bags are versatile and can also be used for everyday storage. They are handy for keeping your shoes organized and protected in any setting. Can I use a shoe bag for boots? Yes, there are shoe bags specifically designed to accommodate boots. Look for larger shoe bags or adjustable compartments to fit your boots comfortably. How many shoes can a shoe bag hold? " y/n! " you turned your head around to the voice calling your name. beomgyu slowly made his way towards you, immediately grabbing your shoebag, helping you carry it. you quickly said goodbye to the girls before leaving with beomgyu. you quickly noticed the bag of things beomgyu was holding in his empty hand.
" you had time to buy these? "
he hummed in response, passing the plastic bag filled with food to you. it contained your favourite onigiri flavours, and a drink to wash everything down. you smiled brightly at beomgyu, opening the wrapper of the onigiri.
" did soobin kill you for being late. " you teased, beomgyu rolled his eyes, not responding to your question.
" he made me stay back later than usual, that's why i'm still here " beomgyu sighed, taking in the scenary infront of him.
" look! it's a full moon tonight. " you exclaimed happily, tugging onto beomgyu's arm. your words slightly hard to interpretate due to the food in your mouth. beomgyu looked up at the moon and back to you, taking in how fascinated you are by the moon. beomgyu's lips tugged up in a smile.
" omg. a cat " you call out, slowly walking towards the orange cat, petting it happily. beomgyu took out his phone and took a picture of the moment secretly.
" let's goo, it's getting late. i'm tired " he yawned, making you frown over the short time you had with the cat. you waved to it goodbye before chasing up to beomgyu, walking side by side with him.

For the ask game!!!
2, 11, 12, 13, and, 23 for imayoshi and 20,23, and, 26 for akashi!!
i will hunt you down one of these days. but alright
for imayoshi:
(and i just hope u know the minute i typed this, the fire alarm went off in my dorms. please stop testing fate.)
2. favourite canon thing about this character?
his ugly chicken-scratch drawings. i think from that one ng-shuu with susa in the library and all his exaggerated voice acting and sound effects and prolific storytelling. that was so freaking endearing i still have the video saved somewhere like UGHHHHHHHHHH kill me kill me he’s so incredibly silly. and he was so serious about illustrating his point through that little comic, too, which is just so cute i’m going to eat him .. #Kill Me… just kill me.
11. would you date this character?
NO 👎 i like to think maybe we’d be friends at least but he’s on a different frequency than i am, in terms of being a lauded student athlete and also a student councillor. i don’t see what we’d even talk about and if anything, he’d make fun of me. i am a nervous, quick-to-anger creature. i wouldn’t really fw him if we were peers. at most, i’d hope we end up on the same group for projects because at least he’d get stuff done.
but if he’s ever a beautiful motorcycle-riding butch lesbian, then things will be completely different.
12. what’s a headcanon you have for this character?
a lot. not getting into it now, or ever. he has a little sister in canon and in my personal opinion, she’s his jewel and he dotes on her a lot, even if he teases her very often (as older brothers do). he’s never missed a competition / recital / school event if she’s ever asked him to come and he cooks her favourite food whenever he can tell she’s had a rough day at school.
13. what’s an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
☝️i think he uses this one a lot in the team group chat as a replacement for “fyi” and “btw” and it annoys the hell out of everyone. “practice starts an hour later today so eat a good lunch. oh and ☝️ we are running 20 laps as a punishment for not cleaning up the gym properly yesterday.” “☝️ someone left behind their shoebag in the locker room yesterday. ☝️ dont leave your stuff unattended.” like it’s so silly. he uses it like punctuation, like seasoning, even.
23. favourite picture of this character?
the ones i make ❤️
for akashi:
20. which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn’t matter?
i’ve been an akakise believer since day one. i think there’s a lot in common in the way they both have to mask to maintain an image, though for different reasons. there is a lot of room for understanding between the two of them that hasn’t been explored enough.
23. favourite picture of this character?
uncontested:
26. what’s something the character has done you can’t get over? be it something funny, bad, good, serious, whatever?
see above. it’s such a silly moment. also the way he kind of hums and rocks side to side when he’s thinking. kill me he is so cute my little guy my silly goober
#asks#i hope this pleases you#i hope you enjoyed putting me through this#always have to be conservative when doing knb hcs. bc i havent gone through all the content#and i dont think i ever will lol. i consume my media in a fairly laidback insular way

19. What are you currently watching?
"Włatcy Móch". It's coming back all new after more than 10 years, which is something i thought would never happen (last episode came out in 2011).
Now to explain this to non-polish followers, these are polish 00's animated series that were dubbed "polish South Park" but in my opinion it has nothing to do with it, 2 completely different things besides being "animation for adults that's actually a hit among children". Everybody at school would quote characters, use them as mobile phone ringtones, wear related merch, have pencil cases/schoolbags etc. (I had a shoebag). The series were full of swears, adult themes, referencing drugs/alcohol but was also quite "problematic" by nowadays standards, like have open racist, sexist texts, LGBT slurs, parodying current world happenings and institutions, church, politics, subcultures, celebrities, nations, stereotypes, absolutely nobody was spared. Which is something i enjoyed now especially, it's refreshing to finally watch something that isn't absurdally clean-cut, militantly politically correct and SJW. I think it'd be nice for people to take it easy sometimes and allow some sarcastic humour and stop being so fucking offended by everything. But what i enjoy the most about it now is just how characters are, the animation design, the way they talk & make up their own words, misinterpret the world (since they're 8 year olds, they just parrot slurs they heard from adults but most often they don't understand it and so use it in wrong context). Also how it references things from polish culture and history etc., how colors alone well reflect shitty polish elementary schools, the sheer 00's-ness and nostalgia of it all. Some later episodes were bad and the "eating its own tail" effect happens but i still enjoy even weaker ones now.
I'm watching it all now since they're airing all the episodes throughout summer everyday and honestly it's my only reason to live right now. I'm worried new season will suck and i'll be disappointed but oh well

It makes sense considering mermaids dont have feet, so the original word was used for shoebags, and when they met humans with shoes they just kept the shoebag name
Mermaids LOVE shoes.
Many of the materials present in footwear can withstand deep sea pressure, hence why human remains in sunken ships disappear but the shoes don’t.
When fishing up an old boot, check inside for valuables, as a mermaid may have been using it as a bag.

I have embarked on a tripand I must say my onboarding of the train was, let's put it mildly, rushed. And now I am looking around like the FUCK wait no i did pack the beauty case yeah see I am looking like the dog meme because I managed to pack everything well enough that I could just carry a nuuuuuu the headphone cable oh well that's why I keep the retractable spare and the extension cord in my fanny pack for. Anyway I was saying I only carried a single backpack and some shit in my pockets and am in the comfort of a t shirt in weather just shy of warm enough for it and this is indistinguishable from having forgotten another bag or an item of clothing or some other trinket. Well I did forget my shoebag I did know that but I can work around that. Is it insane behavior to rollerskate around with shoes sticking out on the sides of your backpack asking for a friend
