Sheriff couldn’t remember when he fell for Shooter, all he knows is that at some point he did.

And now every second around him drives Sheriff insane.

They were standing outside on the roof of La Résistance headquarters. It was cold, dead of night. But for whatever reason, Shooter wanted to be up here. So Sheriff did too.

He didn’t question whatever Shooter was doing up there. He didn’t even think Shooter had noticed him for a while; stood beside him, frigid darkness surrounding them both. Shooter had his eyes trained on the sky, the rather bright sky, at that.

Having lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere, Sheriff remembers seeing the night sky, full of stars. But that was nothing like it was now.

You could see whole galaxies, almost a touch away. It was breathtaking.

But not as breathtaking as Shooter.

Sheriff thought, staring not at the sky, but the man observing it. His dark black hair almost perfectly melding with the inkiness above, endlessly sweeping the dark horizon and disappearing far beyond it. His bright yellow eyes pierce the black like a supernova. So radiant, that Sheriff swears he can see the creation of new stars inside them.

Aside from his appearance, Sheriff always took a liking to Shooter’s accent. A calming, gentle southern drawl. The kind that drifts through one ear, lingers in your mind, then drifts out the other. Leaving Sheriff only to sigh with comfort, wishing he could hear it again.

He shivers, a cold breeze piercing through the thin fabric of his jumpsuit. Shooter had the sleight of mind to put on a hoodie before coming outside. Something Sheriff now wishes he decided to do before hastily following after him.

He takes a step closer to Shooter, feeling the warmth radiating off him and longing to lean into it. If he had any nerve, maybe he would. But he always seemed to lose his otherwise cocky attitude around Shooter.

Something about the man made his insides go soft, brain turn to mush, and legs become jelly. He was lucky to be so good at hiding it. Or at least by some miracle, everyone was oblivious to it; as they all still had the notion that he was into Vegan-Su.

Vegan was pretty, sure, but he quickly realized she was not his type at all.

Sheriff shivers again, wrapping his arms around his torso, teeth chattering. “You cold Sheriff?” Shooter asks, eyes still trained on the sky.

“Ha,” Sheriff laughs, “What do you think?”

Shooter shrugs, “I think you should go grab a jacket before you freeze your ass off.”

“I’m not gonna ‘freeze my ass off,’ I’m fine!” He pulls his arms in tighter. “It’s not that cold anyways.”

“Well, you’re the one freezing I guess.”

Sheriff rolls his eyes, “Rude much.”

“What’d you expect? I’d give up my hoodie for you?” Shooter scoffs, “Hell no! It’s colder than a brass toilet seat on the shady side of an iceberg!”

Sheriff can’t help but burst into laughter. God, his sayings are endearing…

“Anyways,” Shooter starts off as Sheriff wipes tears of laughter from his eyes, “Why’d you follow me out here?”

“Why’d you come out here?”

Shooter shrugs, “I like lookin’ at the stars.”

“Let me guess, you were one of those kids who always wanted to be an astronaut?” Sheriff snickers.

“No…” Shooter hesitates, “Maybe….”

“I KNEW IT!”

“Listen it was only for a little while—“ “Shitshot’s a space nerd! You really learn something new every day!” Sheriff cackles.

Shooter rolls his eyes, red crawling up his neck and face, to the tips of his ears. Another thing Sheriff found endearing about him, was how red he got when embarrassed.

“Alright well,” Shooter turns away from Sheriff, “If you came out here to make a fool of me ya did your job.” He chuckles.

“No I just…” Sheriff struggles to think of a proper excuse as to why he followed Shooter up to the roof in the first place. “I just wanted to hang out with you.”

Shooter nods, falling for Sheriff’s half-lie, and turning to face him again. “In that case y’should really get a jacket, it’s cold.”

“Like I said, I’m fine. It isn’t that cold.” He shivers, watching his breath float away before him.

“ ‘it ain’t that cold’ he says while shiverin’ like it’s fucking Antarctica.” Shooter chuckles, “I might take pity on you just this once.”

Sheriff scoffs, “Don’t bother, I can handle a little cold.”

“Really? You’ve been slowly inchin’ closer to me ever since ya got out here.”

Sheriff turns bright red, shit I thought he wouldn’t notice?? Shooter laughs at his very obvious reaction, “I don’t mind, it’s cold after all.” He holds his arm out to the side, offering Sheriff to come closer.

Sheriff stares at him for a moment, “You really don’t mind?”

“Awh, hush up and get over here.” He smirks, “Less you’d rather freeze.”

A giddy smile overtakes Sheriff, he leans into Shooter’s side, allowing warmth to flow through him. Shooter puts his arm around Sheriff, pulling him in a little closer.

He must be cold too, Sheriff thought. But he didn’t care, this was something he had wanted for far too long.

In the Chaos timeline, what happened to Calvi? I know he tried to backstab Paradis and was caught in the process, but unless he was shipped off of the island, he might cause some trouble to keep Eldians "under control."

Part 9: Soundwave blackmailing Hizuru

It's literally Calvi panicking because being on the island was undoing all the propaganda and control he had over the Eldians. And if they lose their Warriors, Marley falls. They've made too many enemies.

I don't like Calvi and he is a red shirt. I just needed to build a little on a character for everyone to hate even more. He's a character you're designed to hate.

So when Megatron reveals himself to the Marleyans after that shitshot of losing Pieck, it was something that Calvi was not expecting. He knew that something was up with Megatron, or in this case Matthew, but he never expected him to be the Flying Titan. And that he had active information on this new threat, which he called Soundwave. Calvi is still trying to process, since he was completely blindsided while Magath is the one taking complete control of the situation. Magath is used to handling changing situations under fire; Calvi is not.

So Megatron proposes the alliance, and after another loss, the Marleyans have no choice but to go. Calvi thinks this will be a golden opportunity to take control of the island, weaken their defenses, all that stuff. And as the Survey Corps and the Marleyans argue, Calvi thinks that this shit is going to be easy. But then, Willy recommends that they see the alliance through. Calvi is absolutely confused as to why he would recommend this, but he wasn't going to defy the Tybur. Later on, Calvi does notice Willy is talking to the metal titan, Optimus Prime, and it's civil. And it's a problem.

But the alliance continues. Optimus and Megatron explain that the Warriors need to be trained in order to combat Soundwave, especially since Soundwave is the only one who can actually come close to beating either titan. Some Marleyans don't take their warning seriously, so Optimus and Megatron show a demonstration of their battle capabilities. In titan form. It plays out similarly to the Azumabito request in chapter 52, and Calvi immediately sees a drop in morale and an increase in fear among the Marleyan soldiers. Problem #2. Calvi then notices that as the Warriors are training with the two titans, and the hostility becomes less and less between the Founding Titan and the others. The Survey Corps are treating both Marleyans and Eldians the same. Willy and Optimus were actually getting along.

And then the final nail drops: Optimus exposes the truth to everyone.

Calvi didn't expect Optimus to have such a kind nature to him. His kindness and patience was swaying many over to his side. But Calvi also failed to underestimate that someone like him could actually lose his patience. And Optimus has clearly had enough of the treatment of the Eldians on both Paradis and Marley, to point where he exposes the truth about King Fritz ending the war and where he himself is ready to call off the alliance and leave Marley to themselves.

Calvi tries to convince his army that Optimus is lying, but Optimus' character is enough to cause some damage. The Eldians Warriors and Cadets are sticking close to the Survey Corps, specifically Optimus for protection, betrayed by the Marleyan army. Meanwhile, the Marleyens are undergoing an existential crisis about the fact that their glory was a lie, so why should they continue to serve under a lie. Calvi tries to take control. The commanders who still want to remain in power want to take control of Paradis now through some sort of silent coup or assassination. They don't want to lose power and they don't want Marley to fall. Calvi agrees to this happily, and they try to formulate a plan. Calvi, unfortunately, makes a mistake: he tells Zeke Jaeger, who's still playing double agent for the island, specifically Megatron. And Zeke tells them for his own personal gain.

Megatron, Optimus, and Hanji end up having a discussion with Willy Tybur, Magath, and Zeke, since the Marleyan officials clearly cannot be trusted. They need to handle this shit now. Willy decides right then and there to appoint Magath as the General because he's the only one who's willing to adapt to change. Magath still doesn't like the island, but even he's understood the severity of the situation that was Soundwave.

So the question remains, how to get rid of Calvi and the others, because they can't let him go back to Marley and try to drum up forces over there. If they kill them on the island and react first, any remaining loyalists will see this a a mutiny. That Paradis struck first, and they were the devils. Hanji suggests letting them make the first move. They've lost their grip on power and the support of a good portion of their army. If Marley reacts first out of desperation, Paradis has free reign to do whatever they want with them. Imprisonment, death, let them dig themselves a grave. They all agree, and they end up explaining the plan to the Survey Corps to make sure that minimal damage is caused.

So what's left of Marleyan command kidnap the Warrior Cadets and try to haul them on a ship to leave the island. They know they can't get to the Warriors now, but they can use the Cadets as bargaining chips, especially since Gabi is Reiner's cousin. However, the Survey Corps surround them as they're about to leave. Calvi puts a gun to Colt's head and swears that he'll shoot. But Megatron simply asks Colt how attached he is to his ear. Before Colt could answer, Megatron fired and took off Colt's ear while also shooting Calvi through the neck, killing him. The other Marleyans are in sheer panic, but it allows the Survey Corps to quickly apprehend them and get the Warrior Cadets back.
