Absolutely not implying that OP has it, but. Story time.

I'm an immigrant from a shitholecountry where — I'm simplifying for conciseness, but still — many mental disorders are not being diagnosed/recognized and are barely known, if at all, and a mental health-related diagnosis is basically a brand and taboo. An example of how forked up it is: I was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 20, with no double-checking, and ‘treated’ with medication that messed me up. For all intents and purposes, somewhere in their archives I still am what I never have been (and a menace to society, according to them) with this word in my medical history file. In truth, the ‘schizophrenia’ was PTSD that sprang out of the constant abuse for being an ‘idiot who is not trying hard enough’.

I've been writing for most of my life. Posts like the one above is how I finally discovered that I have ADHD. Learning English, making a transfer to English-speaking social media, seeing this mysterious abbreviation combined with self-deprecating jokes in the similar vein, all led to me thinking about it, reading, comparing, then consulting with a doctor etc etc and here we are.

Perhaps this could help someone else. Being diagnosed as an adult was heartbreaking. I felt like decades were lost to me.

You can bury your head deep in texts but ultimately if you don't trust your freestanding ability to discern good and evil, then your servitude is indefinitely entrenched, despite a few centuries of independence. It may have taken that long to descend into total anarchy, but it's not far. The kind of impunity on display every single day is a taunt at civil powerlessness. At least in a shithole country or military regime, a leader would be court-martialed and removed already. Instead, the world has to witness this slow spiral into amorality. Once the playing field is completely levelled, what then, when your word is worthless and the lies made you crumble from within. "You have a republic, if you can hang on to it". A beacon is useless when its light is out.
