People really think that the reason we were upset with natsu when he left to train for a year is that he didn't deserve to grieve.

Natsu had all the right to leave, and to grieve, healthily or not.

But let's get real for a second

He had the right to grieve and Lucy had the right to be sad about him leaving her

Imagine the person you are closest with, that you trust the most, basically spend all your days with, someone you love, YOUR BEST FRIEND leaves you WITH A NOTE, AND A REALLY SHORT ONE BFFR

We are not upset that he left to train, we are upset that he left with a shitty note, Lucy and everyone else deserved a physical goodbye, not that.

Now, why do I call Natsu a hypocrite?

What do you think he would do if he came home and found a letter from Lucy saying she was going away to train for a year?

HE JUST WOULDN'T LET HER DO IT

He would go after her as far and long as needed and bring her back, or ignore her wishes and join her (I'm not excusing this behavior)

And How do I know that? Because it already happened.

Remember phantom lord arc? When lucy went to talk to her dad and left them a note saying she was going back home?

Although she was going to leave for A SINGLE DAY? The way Natsu and the others WENT AFTER HER TO BRING HER BACK?

THE WAY IT DIDNT EVEN BE A DAY AND NATSU CRIED THINKING SHE LEFT??????!?

He is a hypocrite, because he did what he would never allow Lucy to do, he cried and went after her after being without her for hours but then he goes and does the same thing, BUT WORSE.

Again, HE HAD THE RIGHT TO LEAVE, but lucy HAD THE RIGHT TO BE SAD BE SO F*CKING FOR REAL

Question: How can we say Natsu treats Lucy differently compared to the rest of his nakama? We have seen him being angry emotional during Erza "funeral" (in the first season) and his reaction when topic of Lisanna's death comes up. He even blushed when Lisanna used to talk about marriage and all (just before she passed away when Happy and Natsu have another fight). He never really expressed any physical interest in Lucy EVER and is mostly lukewarm in his reactions unless she is in danger or hurt. He didn't even hesitate when he was asked to kiss Lucy.

So how can we say that Lucy is different from all these people? I hope you understood my question.

(PS I am a huge NaLu shipper but I hate how they handle serious moments)

Well, I think that we have to clear something up, and its that Lucy and Natsu are more than Lucy and Natsu.

Natsu's world doesn't revolve around Lucy, and Lucy's world doesn't revolve around Natsu. They are their own persons with their own dreams and goals (and this is completely fine)

Natsu is a very passionate person, who loves his friends and family, he has known Erza and Lisanna since they were children, it is obvious that he will be emotional about their "deaths". Just like he was with future Lucy's.

Why do I think Natsu treats Lucy differently? Well, because he does. Literally. Not only does Natsu avoid any kind of (serious) fight with Lucy, but he is emotionally vulnerable with her, he becomes soft. I'm going to focus on Erza and Lucy because we don't have enough interactions with Lisanna.

Natsu is an extremely violent person, even when Erza was distressed his solution was punching her (even if it was for her own good or not),

Now, we have never seen Natsu use violence to console Lucy (or in general), they are always soft, comforting moments

He just can't hurt her, at least not willingly, it's beyond him.

Just like when he had to fight snake lucy and completely stopped thinking she was back

I want to pinpoint his reactions to different deaths, because even those are different

When Lissana, erza or even Igneel died, Natsu felt helpless and sad

Lucy? He wanted to burn the world down, kill his best friend out of grieve and then kill himself in the process just because he thought he had lost her forever. (I talk about this here)

About the physical interest, I kind of disagree, It is true that he doesn't show as much physical desire like other men in FT but he does in his own way. We have seen natsu fantasize over Lucy

be jealous of other men for her attention

and become possessive of her

He is not responsive because almost every time they have a physical moment he sees it coming, is mentally prepared for it or he initiates them.

NOW, what happens when Lucy initiates or he doesn't see it coming?

My man becomes a blushing mess (this is mainly shown in official art tho)

but he never shows jealousy or possessiveness towards erza, because Erza is not Lucy

Sorry, but I miss the old art style of Fairy Tail, when they actually looked like they were 20 years old.

Don't get me wrong, the "new" one is cute, but I feel like it falls into the typical manga style where forty-somethings look like ten-year-olds

Nalu's confession and why it seems so impossible

Okay, I think I understand why Mashima has trouble writing or imagining NaLu's confession, and honestly, it's 100% his fault (obviously).

In the original manga it wasn't so hard for me to imagine it, we all know that Natsu knew how to act in serious situations and when they required a more mature attitude, but in 100yq? It's like Natsu is incapable of being serious for 2 seconds, they always end the scene with a bad joke or write him off as "too dumb to understand anything."

We have witnessed how Natsu is able to read the environment and react accordingly, like when they were going to arrest Jellal and Natsu realized how much it was affecting Erza

Gray's several su attempts with Ice Shell

The death of Lucy's father and the death of Eclair and how it affected her and his way of supporting her.

The way 100yq is written is vague and messy, the characters act like idiots and any progress they have had as characters has disappeared (Natsu the most obvious one).

Until they fix his character, even I, a Nalu fan at heart, find it difficult to see a confession in the current state of the manga. We may get lucky and get some progress with the Ignia arc (which I think would be the most logical one to use to make their relationship progress), but it's highly unlikely to be a serious development.

In my opinion, the perfect moment in which Nalu would have become canon was when the Dragon Slayers fell from the sky and Natsu ended up on top of Lucy saying that "he was home", Lucy should have been brave and kissed him at that moment but noooo.

Mashima should't have started so many proyects and focused is his supposedly "favorite work", just saying. No one likes a "rushed" story.

NaLu's current relationship situation

Okay, this is something that's been on my mind lately and if I don't talk about it I think I'm going to explode.

We all know that Natsu and Lucy have a "strange" relationship, they are more than friends but less than lovers, as Mashima said previously. And I want to talk about some changes that have occurred from the original manga to the sequel.

LET'S BEGIN BTCHS

I think we all know that Natsu is NOT as dense as they make him out to be. He may be somewhat inexperienced when it comes to romance but he KNOWS that his situation with Lucy is different compared to any girl he knows.

He becomes possessive and jealous, something that doesn't happen with other girls, only Lucy. If you really didn't know anything about relationships or how intimate many of those moments are, why would you be jealous when other men do it? Natsu knows that what he does with Lucy is close, personal, INTIMATE.

I know some people treat it as a joke but I really do think that Natsu, from the bottom of his being, thinks he is in a relationship with Lucy. And Lucy has a lot to do with this, I think her way of expressing how close Natsu has become to her now and the lack of reaction on her part makes him think that she's okay with it happening.

Lucy no longer reacts aggressively when Natsu does something that only romantic couples do, she has become passive in those situations, timidly asking him to stop, a reaction that in the original manga did not usually happen. She used to be much more authoritarian and firm in these cases, reaching physical violence (the famous Lucy kicks, wich I approve of because god forbid a woman has boundaries smh).

I think this lack of negative reaction on Lucy's part makes Natsu think that he has her consent to do what he does, hence, from his point of view, he is not doing anything wrong. Natsu thinks that Lucy is exclusive to him, since he is exclusive to Lucy.

Lucy has no competition for Natsu's attention. He has no desire to be with another woman or have the type of relationship he has with Lucy with anyone else. Since from Natsu's point of view, they are together (and cheating on Lucy is non-existent in his mind).

But this is different from Lucy's point of view, she thinks that Natsu is not interested in her, she thinks that he is simply too dense to know what his actions mean and she lets it pass as an accident.

I know that communication is non-existent in Fairy Tail but if Lucy doesn't make their relationship clear they will never be able to be something more because Natsu doesn't see the need to talk things out.

I think Natsu is so out of character here, I don't even know what mashima was thinking.

What do you mean you just burned one of the most important person in your life and the reaction is THAT? Joking like it was nothing, like what Lucy went through was nothing. She put herself in danger, burning herself in the process of saving him and this is what we get? Yeah, he apologized but come on.

I know it's been a long time since this happened but it's like my Roman empire in the worst possible way.
