okay. let's talk about shin, sabine, and whatever the hell is going on here:

i've been trying to figure out this moment, and why shin responds like this. because it feels like a change, right? the shin of episode 1 would be thrilled to have permission to hunt down and kill sabine. but here, she's clearly protesting the order (indirectly, because she can hardly outright say 'no' to thrawn).

on one level, this is definitely at least in part because the order is coming from thrawn. orders from baylan are fine for shin: baylan is her master, and by this point in the series it's obvious how much she respects him. but thrawn? baylan told her finding thrawn would bring them power, but instead both she and baylan are being treated like his underlings - this is not what shin thought they were signing up for.

but if this were solely about thrawn giving orders, i'd expect shin's reaction to seem irritated or offended - she's hardly a stranger to anger, after all. but i think it's fair to say that shin's response here can be best characterised as alarmed? she's clearly surprised that they aren't letting sabine go, and more than that: she's not happy about it.

so then, i thought maybe that this was about honour - that shin was so disturbed by this, because it is dishonourable for baylan (who has made a point of insisting on keeping his word to sabine) to break their agreement. (and i know it may seem counterintuitive to assume that shin cares about such a jedi-like concept as honour, but judging by the way baylan speaks of the jedi and shin's padawan braid, he probably instilled her with their values if not their morals.) but then i remembered where episode four left off (which is indicated by the show to be a most a day or two ago):

this takes place literally immediately after sabine has made a deal with baylan. if shin cares enough about honour for it to override her hatred of sabine in episode six, it doesn't make sense for her to disregard honour (even in the heat of the moment) to try and kill sabine in episode four.

so if this isn't about thrawn (not entirely), and it isn't about honour (probably not at all), what is this about? what has changed to make shin go from homicidal obsession to protesting seemingly on sabine's behalf?

shin staring at sabine is nothing remotely new. shin staring at sabine without a homicidal glare or a mocking smirk? that's extremely new. this scene makes me crazy (i'm trying so so hard to keep the shipping goggles off and to be objective guys). it may not seem like much at first glance, but this is a dramatic change of behaviour for shin. she's looking at - no, observing sabine in a completely neutral and open way. there's no hostility in this gaze, no judgement, not even fear or conflict. just: observing. and she's doing so openly as well - not just that she isn't disguising herself - she turns to face sabine, as if to give sabine a better look at her. as if to let sabine observe her right back.

why??? why is shin doing this??

um. well. i actually don't know.

i can't make any remotely certain assumptions about what has changed since they left seatos. maybe shin has done a lot of introspection. maybe she feels like she's seen a different side of sabine. maybe they fucked on that spaceship.

the only conclusion i do feel it might be safe to make is this:

i don't think shin sees sabine as an enemy anymore.

i don't know when exactly that changed, i don't know what exactly caused it. but it's true. and if shin and sabine aren't enemies anymore - what are they to each other? what will they become?

tl;dr - shin doesn't want to murder sabine in cold blood anymore. also i think they should hold hands.

ok so in my like, 'canon' version of creeped, the crushes are genuinely so fleeting and pointless, nobody knows anything and it goes nowhere. the only canon romantic relationships happen between nina/jeff, jane/mary, liu/ex fiance, dina/helen

BUT in the more multishippy-funsy version of creeped where i allow ships to happen...

i think it would be funny. they'd both be pretty clueless for a while. clocky fights her feelings for toby sooo so so so so hard, she feels hella shame and embarrassment. jack fights it a little just cuz 'really? i like this guy?' but eventually is like ok fine he's cute its fine.

and theyre both incredibly observant. nats got an eye more than jack, so she thinks she has an advantage and can get away with lingering stares, but jack can hear her heartbeat across the damn room.

and nat goes to jack a lot when she's feeling overwhelmed and angry with everyone else, but cant handle being alone either. and she'll sit on his couch and grumble and occasionally wipe down his counters while he cleans and he quietly talks about his day and asks if she wants go to go on a walk and this and that...

so eventually, toby would come up. and i think jack would be the one to say something first. dunno how, but maybe more of a suggestion than anything, and nat gets all tense and she's like "what the fuck are you implying jack" and jack laughs and is like "alright you dont need to get defensive, i get it" and shes like "the fuck you mean you get it" and he just smiles and keeps cooking or walking and then they drop the topic.

then a week goes by and shes banging on his door and is like "what did you mean you get it." and hes like its 3am. and shes like im asking you a question.

lets her in and they kinda talk about it. eventually it turns into them laughing about 'god i cant believe HE of all people got BOTH OF US' and make fun of eachother for it. theres no jealousy or envy or resentment between them - both are too mature and detached from romance for that, but they dont talk about it often

romantic sunturine/avenday makes me so genuinely uncomfortable

platonic frenemies ? sure it would literally be so funny to see these two bicker and fight

but romantically ? not if we are talking about the portrayal this ship gets in the fandom. sunday mentally tortured aventurine and for SOME REASON people think aven, the dude who builds 10 walls around himself constantly in fear of being vulnerable enough to be hurt, would be into him/flirt with him after that. its insulting to his character to portray aven as romantically interested in sunday.

IN ADDITION people act like they both would be toxic WHAT DID AVENTURINE DO WDYM😭kakavasha lied to him sure but he didnt do anything bad enough to warrant MENTAL TORTURE from sunday. another issue is that people think these two are equally toxic when it would mainly be toxic from sunday's side; furthermore, sunday has a whole savior complex and is suffocatingly controlling, if you know aventurine well enough u would see that this goes against aventurine's interests/beliefs completely as a former enslaved person AND HEAR ME OUT ! my complaint isnt with this fact on its own, my complaint is that people miss this important detail in their relationship completely and don't acknowledge it. which leads to mischaracterization !

in my personal, subjective opinion, sunday deserves someone who would genuinely likes him and not be uncomfortable with him and AVENTURINE deserves a good healthy relationship with someone who did not mentally re-traumatize him. but thats an opinion. an objective FACT is that mutually romantic sunturine has potential for a lot of mischaracterization and for it to be good, the messed up canon stuff has to be acknowledged

you can absolutely enjoy toxic yaoi and i understand the appeal 100% but at the very least make it ACCURATE to the characters and COMMIT dammit ! (Ｔ＿Ｔ）

I want to give some gentle reassurances and reminders as lately I've seen a lot of this from many different self shippers.

It's OKAY to post more horror media if that is what you enjoy, it's OKAY to have ships from darker types of media! (NOT talking about pr*ship and that weird shit just fyi) You have no obligation to always constantly post fluff of your ships! It's okay to write some more horror themes, it's okay to draw more horror for your ships! It's okay to make conflicts in your ships! It's YOUR SHIP not your ship micro managed by other people.

It's okay to ship however you want to ship! You shouldn't have to worry about what other people think(unless your pr*ship then you need professional help), the blacklist and filter system has gotten a lot better than before. They can blacklist the tag if the horror/ conflict content isn't for them and I want to reassure people that if a close friend/mutual ends up blocking or unfollowing you just because of a ship and how you choose to ship then they aren't really your friends to begin with. The right people WILL find you!

You're no less valid for putting horror in your ships or having f/o who are from horror media!!!

This is almost definitely where it comes from. As someone semi-new to fandom, I wouldn't even consider the post they described to be about a ship at all. For me, saying that you "ship" two characters implies something about the relationship you hope they have.

If I meant "Character A is horribly abusive to everyone around them, Character B is naive and overly-forgiving, it might be interesting if they had a toxic relationship" I wouldn't then say "I ship Character A/Character B," because I don't.

Because to me, "I ship Character A/Character B" means "I hope these two are endgame." If I don't want their conflicts of the book/show/movie/whatever to end with them being with each other, it's not really a ship to me

Oh yeah, you definitely have a newer, more modern day definition of "shipping"

I will forever use it to mean "these characters have an interesting dynamic and I want to explore it" rather than "I hope they become canon"

I have SO MANY ships that I not only know will never become canon but I actively DO NOT WANT to become canon
