- it is a long and slow road for them to become comfortable with the idea of being in love. Moe struggles with compulsive heterosexuality, Barney struggles with being in love with what is essentially his enabler. But Barney has an innate urge to protect Moe and Moe is very touch-starved.

- I have a million ideas for their first kiss idk. Barney is sloppy, Moe favours just giving little pecks on the cheek. But once they lock lips they go for it.

- Barn is also a biter. Moe's into it.

Loki Episode 4 Coherent Thoughts

Spoilers for Episode 4 and before, obviously.

Christ, I have come up with ANOTHER fic idea that has to be posted before Thursday if I want it to be relevant for a little bit, and boy howdy, it is not short.

I think Sylvie got to Mobius. I'm gonna time it next time I watch it (and report back here when I do), but I'm pretty sure even if Loki and Sylvie's conversation happens at the same time as the scene in OB's workroom that immediately follows, there was still enough time for Mobius to look into his memories and get hot cocoa before. Even if he just finds files somewhere and tucks them away to look at later. [EDIT: YES. Sylvie and Loki's conversation in "pie land" takes about 4 minutes and 31 seconds. If we assume the hot cocoa machine takes 1 minute roughly, the total time he's with OB, Casey, and Timely plus that minute is 2 minutes and 42 seconds, leaving 1 minute and 49 seconds to do something that helps him figure out his memories. What that something is in that time, I don't know, but that's still almost 2 minutes of time unaccounted for.]

Listen, I know it's episode 4 so it's too early to be in pain. I know it. But goddamn I still feel bereft. That look on Loki's face that they left us with HURT MY SOUL. (And also I was there (kind of) for Supernatural at the very end and shit went down two episodes before the finale and DID NOT GET ADEQUATELY RESOLVED and I'm not gonna say I was traumatized because that's dramatic, these are tv shows, but I'm a milder version of traumatized. I've been burned by bad endings that started two episodes before the end before.) And I'm just really upset about seeing Loki in pain in general (don't get me wrong, DO IT, it gives me writing ideas and hurts really good, but ouch), and the comics seem to be implying some worrying shit coming down the pipe for my boi, so I don't like shit happening from both ends. I DON'T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO HANDLE IT, Y'ALL!!

I feel like we're going to restart the clock next ep, but I DON'T KNOW HOW WE'RE GONNA DO THAT. The Loom (or timeline, I'm gonna get to this thought in a post tomorrow) exploded without any time for the main six to turn back the clock.

I haven't talked about it much on here, because I don't want to address a rumor and I don't want to believe it, but I have been dreading episode 5 since ep 1 because of Mobius and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Spoiler. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm very suspicious of this rumor and also a little superstitious of looking at it head-on because I don't want it to be real, so unfortunately you're gonna have to go into the lokius tag yourself to see if you can find it. It might also be in the Mobius tag. There is ONE good-ish possibility for this possible spoiler if it's legit, and it would be that it might prove one of my theories (plus maybe something else if they do it justice, but I don't have too much confidence they will), but either way it kind of upsets lokius and I'm not thrilled by that. I have a theory that's coming tomorrow that could have this happen while still giving us lokius endgame, but given how much time is left in the season I'm not very confident so I'm just gonna sit here for the next few days and pray it was a troll.

Also: "oh no" is a code phrase I've started with my friends that has made its way into my personal reaction notes, and now congrats, you've been (unwillingly) witnesses to it now, too. It means "I am starting to ship this and I don't want to-slash-I know I shouldn't, but I am." And (yike) if you recall this showed up on the reaction about Sylvie jumping into the lokius bickering. I'M NOT SAYING that I ship sylkius. I'M NOT SAYING that I'm GOING TO ship sylkius. I'm just saying I had THOUGHTS when she did that and I didn't love the thoughts I had. I think episode 4 of season one was when I started shipping lokius, though, so...fuck. (It should be noted that 90% of the time I go "oh no" just in general, though, I forget about it pretty quickly afterwards, so statistically it's unlikely.)

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

I think people often overlook how much comic Spider-Gwen grows over the course of her series, but it's one of the reasons I love that run so much. Okay, she's still kind of schlubby and chronically late for things, but in the course of... three years? She does something that Peter Parker took decades to do (and keeps waffling) which is to reveal herself publicly and face the music for any crimes she committed as Spider-Woman (specifically the death of Peter Parker). I think a lot of superhero books are able to keep running on the same drama because they keep letting the hero *just barely* outrun the consequences of their actions, or if they do, they keep going back and forth on who knows their identity etc etc. If being a Spider-Person is about responsibility, I think Gwen really did the best job of stepping up to the plate.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For Daredevil: Oh man, you don't even know (ok, actually, you specifically probably do know haha) how much I'd like to see more DD crossover with mutant characters, specifically Nightcrawler. I JUST THINK THEY COULD HAVE SOME GOOD CHARACTER BUILDING MOMENTS, and while Nightcrawler is like... a guy pretty much everyone likes, I think he's under utilized in fanfic. HE'S A GOOD DUDE. And boy howdy his recent comic events have made him a very... meaty character. I'm hoping his upcoming stint as Spider-Man gives people more ideas for stuff to do with him.

Maybe comic edits? Serious ones or funny ones. There are some very talented people out there doing neat things with all this classic art and I'm always in awe. I dabble, but struggle a lot with creating wholly new things as opposed to just cleaning up images. I love show edits, but the problem with pretty much any live action media fandom is that you end up seeing the same clips over and over because there's only so much to draw from.

This is a silly one, but people should do more mattfoggy animatics to dialogue from episodes of House. I don't know why the algorithm started pushing clips of that show to me but there have been so many times I was like "is this not just lifted from like... the Bendis run or something?" haha

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?

I went to my 2022 recap and picked the 28th song. It's "I'll Still Have Me" by Cyn which I almost feel is a cheat for me because I'm pretty sure I've put this on prompt lists specifically. This song (about losing your loved one either via death or a relationship that naturally came to its end) is so sweet and sad, and it puts me in mind of Foggy from season 3 of Daredevil when he thinks Matt is dead and is still trying to process it and move on with his life.

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

Isekai where Foggy gets transported to a magical land where everyone is convinced he's doing to save the kingdom but it's very clear that it's all of his companions (the Defenders etc) who have amazing abilities and he's wondering how he got here and how long he can keep this up.

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

HMM. Hate is a strong word... I just y'know, don't click on things or block the tag but... I usually pass on genderswap fics? Not really out of any strong feelings (I think art can be interesting because I like seeing how costumes are reinterpreted a lot of the time). I just... don't have the interest. One that is sometimes harder to avoid is when someone drops a full ass song into the middle of a fic (a few lines of lyrics are fine) and it doesn't have anything to do with the narrative, the author was just really feeling their girly bop feels that day. It takes me right out of the story and I pass over the lyrics 99.9% of the time.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

It's probably because I live in a place that's roughly as hot as the surface of the sun but I go WEAK IN THE KNEES for any story where character A has been in the cold for too long and character B has to help them get warm again. Can be an actual danger-of-hypothermia situation or a "you really thought a snowball fight was a good idea" situation, it's all good.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

I will send my memes friends for Hannibal, Stranger Things (which I watched and enjoyed, I'm just not in the fandom for it) and the occasional DC property. Things I know just enough about to go "oh that's a funny one".

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)

This is silly, but I'm so happy so many buddies are jumping on the Spider-Gwen panel redraw! It's fun to see how people's styles vary and what techniques they use to get a desired effect. Kind of feels like I'm back in art class and twenty kids are drawing the same bowl of fruit, y'know?

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 265,026 on my main! but plus the sides it's 498,415

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? uhh i'm not big on angsty endings tbh, so if they're not happy endings they're still hopeful. angsty-EST? maybe my second biggest fic, that one is going to leave a lot of loose ends to be picked up in the sequel

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? that one teen wolf longfic i started in 2015 lmao. i did SO MUCH world building and i miss it, but boy howdy was it more than i could chew

16. What are your writing strengths? shaping au things to insert into canon, or rather, lying through half truths and omissions, both on a doylian and watsonian level

17. What are your writing weaknesses? pacing and staying interested in a fandom for long enough stretches to finish long-fic

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? there is no excuse not to put the translations at the TOP of the chapter instead of the endnote, though i'm also of the opinion that it is very rare entire sentences need to be in another language ESPECIALLY if the character whose pov you're in understands the language. there are ways of incorporating dialogue in other languages cleanly, i've seen it done and am working towards it myself, it is just so often done so messily

19. First fandom you wrote for? shugo chara, i think. oh wow that was a long time ago. well, actually, one could argue the first i wrote for was canterwood crest lmaooooo but that was before i knew what fanfiction was

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? i am VERY proud of a rexobi au i wrote, and a pre-s2 dinpaz, but my revalink on my old old account will always hold such a special place in my heart

Hard agree with the tags on that recent reblog of The Hexer!Geralt and Dandelion

Dude yes!!! It’s 2am here so this may not be worded well but I have many strong opinions on this particular subject 

so if you’re not into opinions on Geraskier this post isn’t for you

To preface this rant: I have not been in the fandom since day 1, but I’ve been here for at least two years, if not longer, so I got here before the show. During the time before the show, the content for the witcher fandom was pretty few and far between, but usually it was made by dedicated artists and writers whose content slapped/still slaps hard asf. People kinda shipped whoever, especially the more popular stuff like Geralt/Yen, Geralt/Eskel, Geralt/Regis, and so forth (no I do not care about Triss). There was also definitely some Geralt/dandelion as well, but it was mostly for book!Dandelion and Geralt. The fandom was pretty quiet.

Then the show happened and boy howdy

The geraskier shipper count went through the freakin roof, like the ship name used to be gerlion more commonly and then people who watched the show started calling it geraskier and that kinda stuck

My main beef with all this is that to me, it really feels like because of the actors appearances, a lot of people reduce Netflix!Geralt/jaskier (and kinda geraskier in general) to this very mainstream trope of the ✨Hot Gay Fantasy Couple✨, where one is an hot flamboyant twink and the other is a hot stoic hunk. When people do this to Geralt and Jaskier, it very much woobifies the characters and the ship to the point where it feels like both characters kinda lose their substance and their personality. I really dislike this tendency a lot, it feels bad.

I think Geralt and Jaskier totally have potential as a ship, but to me it’s really only when you dig into and learn about who they are as canon and canon-adjacent characters (aside from the Netflix show portrayals). Like in that gif set I tagged earlier. Their friendship is so strong in every iteration of the franchise (again excepting the Netflix show, which I do understand only covers the very beginning of their relationship at all so far but my point stands) and when people make them into this ✨Hot Gay Fantasy Couple✨ it disregards their canonical (and canonic-adjacent) genuine, complex personalities, feelings, and relationship.

I realize this take is pretty freaking judgmental, but it’s frustrating to see people putting cheesy trope stickers onto characters that are deep and really well and carefully fleshed out. I mean, come on, there’s literally an entire book series, a wholeass game series, and a very silly and funny tv series (from the 2000s I believe), all of which you can draw from to create your own versions of the characters. The stoic hunk/ flamboyant twink pairing exists in so many other places, where I’m sure there’s instances of it actually being canon (or it doesn’t erase who the characters are), so I guess I just don’t understand why people feel the need to erase characters’ personalities just to cram new people into those trope boxes.

End point being:

Geralt and Jaskier are a valid pairing when they’re not depicted as conventionally attractive. Like, especially when they’re not depicted as conventionally attractive, and their personalities are intact because they haven’t been reduced to just hot faces. 

Give us book!geraskier, where Geralt canonically looks “unpleasant” and Dandelion is a blonde dandy who would risk his life for Geralt any day, and Geralt would do (and does) the same for him. Give us Hexer!geraskier, where Geralt looks like a regular, average-looking guy with white hair and Jaskier looks like a regular, average-looking guy with scruff but they are both clearly devoted to each other. Even give us game!geraskier, where yes, Geralt is more conventionally attractive, and so is Dandelion, but they still have a complex relationship and interactions, and Dandelion is always there for Geralt and vice versa. 

There is an amazing amount of canonical and canonic-adjacent history and shipping potential between these two characters, so I personally feel that if you’re only shipping Geralt and Jaskier because the actors in the Netflix show are hot and you want that ✨Hot Gay Fantasy Twink/Hunk Couple✨, you should reexamine that.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I’m typically allergic to straight tragedy, but... I think probably Put your Stampler in a box (D&Dads), since the whole thing is a hypothetical lead-up to a magic teenager going on a rampage. Mind over Matter has a really emotional ending, but I like to think it’s more bittersweet than straight angst. Fourteen, and four thousand, years old swerves into angst, but nobody’s dying or anything so... yeah!

Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Heroes Under Drinking Age is the incomplete MASSIVE thing which is supposed to ultimately crossover Danny Phantom, RC9GN, American Dragon, and Kim Possible. I hit a hard writing wall on the ADJL and KP side and just never got over it :( I still dream of finishing it

Oh I guess there’s also a TMA-D&Dads crossover I’ve put some thought into, where after s5 Jon and Martin land in Faerun to replace The Library, and they get to decompress in this strange world, meet the Likelys, and hear about the eldritch-adjacent beings from other worlds. 

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Nope! (knocks on all the wood) at least not if you’re not counting someone pointing out spelling stuff unsolicited or stuff like that.

One is a high school au where Hen (14) comes to Earth early, another is an exploration of what it might be like to be a sort of demi-god descendant of a chaos entity with the Doodler Cult coming back (called Puberty, ????, and You). Idk if Done Sons and Dragons counts, cause that’d be a whole comic. I’d love to publish something of at least one of these

And then there’s a half-baked idea for Yet Another Oscar Time Travel AU for RWBY, that would take place starting after v8 and would feature Oscar and Emerald traveling back to the series start (on purpose.)

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on my prose and scene pacing! I like writing prose like it’s the thought process of the character I’m following, and I often find myself getting a bit poetic about it. I’m a big fan of parallelisms and using repetition for impact. 

I also put a lot into trying to match the original tone of the content I’m writing fic for, and have gotten quite a few compliments on my character dialogue. I just get their voices in my brain and they don’t leave. On only one occasion have they paid rent. The freeloaders. 

What are your writing weaknesses?

I bite off more than I can chew and never finish 

I worry a lot over making sure emotional beats connect, and that it doesn’t feel like I’m jumping from point A to point C, and I’m afraid that makes me over-explain point B. Like I was rereading HUDA: Alpha after I posted it to ao3, and I have a lot of grace for my high school self, but some parts of that fic could have been smoothed out quite a bit. Parts of Mind over Matter are a bit wordier than they needed to be, too. 

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I feel like it’s best done by people who are fluent in a language. Language isn’t just changing words from A to B, it comes with cultural connotations and altered meanings and layers that are only going to come across perfectly when it comes from someone who knows exactly what they’re talking about. so like if I were ever to use more than a few words or a common phrase in another language in a fic, I’d find someone who actually speaks it to help me out. 

as for how to format it... if the meaning needs to be understood by the reader, you may as just put it in the fic’s main language and alter the formatting (like with itallics) or dialogue tag to denote that they’re speaking another language. If it’s small bits, I don’t super mind footnotes at the bottom or just leaving it untranslated, like a special bit for people who speak the language or are willing to look it up. 

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

warrior cats! me, my best friend, and my older sister all had OCs and were part of RainClan, our OC clan. Their camp was made in the trunk and branches of a big willow tree that made a kind of sheltered dome. I didn’t even know what fanfiction was back then

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Mind over Matter. Hands down. For one, it’s actually done. That would put it in contest with The Way Out, which is also multi-chapter and complete, but MoM is WAY longer and took SO much more work but was SO worth it. It started as just scratching an itch and then grew into something that helped me prove to myself that I can do a long-term project, including themes and foreshadowing and narrative hootenanny and character arcs and character relationship arcs. the html coding. It was a great time, I’m so proud of it, editing it helped build one of my best friendships, and there is nothing I would trade that experience for.

d - a pairing you wish you liked but just can’t - gonna say perryshmirtz for this one. i don’t dislike the ship at all, and they definitely have an absurd amount of romantic chemistry, i just have An Intense Burning Indifference towards it. it’s a shame because i’m pretty sure it’s the most popular ship in the fandom besides phinabella, which means there’s no shortage of genuinely really wonderful content for it, but i just can’t get In To It for whatever reason. i wish all perryshmirtz fans a very pleasant evening [except the ones bombarding the ao3 tag with explicit works :/] but it just doesn’t do anything for me that their already established dynamic doesn’t do just as well

FERB AND VANESSA AS FOUND SIBLINGS please it’s SUCH a good take on their dynamic. it’s got all the established mutual respect and affection with none of the creepy age gaps. let vanessa be ferb’s cool punk older sister who introduces him to new music and teaches him how to effectively fend off sensory overload at otherwise fun events and highkey enjoys the normal-ish sibling shaped dynamic after growing up as an only child with shaky relationships with her parents

candace being portrayed as mentally ill and not in the ‘hurr durr candace is hallucinating everything because all children’s content must be secretly edgy for me to enjoy it’ way but like a genuinely serious well-written portrayal of it. i personally hc her to have obsessive-compulsive disorder [in addition to autism and general anxiety because it’s my neurodivergence and i get to slap it on every character i look at] since her obsession with busting phineas and ferb really reads like a compulsion the way it’s presented, but honestly i’ll take anything if it’s respectfully written and makes the most of all the very clear hints in her behaviour. somehow i haven’t posted about this yet i don’t think?? but come on it’s such a great take on her character i promise

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

Boy howdy, have I ever! I’m a HUGE proponent of curating my fandom space - whether it’s with filter tags, tumblr savior, or just unfollowing and blocking. It works most of the time (though somethings things squeek through). I unfollow people over real non-fandomy opinions too. I don’t want this place to be an echo chamber where everyone always agrees on everything - but I also don’t want to constantly be inundated with things that will make me anxious or unhappy. So I tend to judge whether I unfollow based on the quantity of the opinions we disagree on, the severity of how it affects my real life, and whether it’s something petty that we can just agree to disagree on and move on together as friends. I’ve reached out to people who I thought were particular friends to express when something they’ve shared (fandom or not) has hurt me because I don’t love the ghosting of actual friendship - but the short answer to this one is - yep, I have and I’ll continue to do so.

27. Least shippable character?

In my fandom? I think sometimes the nature of the show makes some characters unshippable. Like, sexuality. If there aren’t a lot of options in the main cast for a queer character to be shipped with another queer character - then that makes them less shippable (if that makes sense). And that’s hardly the character’s fault either. I want Fangs Fogerty to find a nice partner who wants a future with him and doesn’t want an open relationship. There aren’t a ton of options. I want Reggie Mantle to find a nice partner to tell him to get a haircut and kiss those plush lips... but there aren’t a lot of options. Right now - I’m not shipping Tabitha Tate with anyone... but that’s because I think she could literally do better than ANYONE on this show.

Calling Luigi "sweetie" in Mario Power Tennis? MY HEART. And seeing his slow-mo perspective of her on rollerblades in that same cutscene??? I LIVE.

Their team names in the Mario Party series? Wholesome as fuck. (Mostly. "Steady Sweeties" is adorable. "Shy Sidekicks" too, kinda. "Tango Tanglers" really surprised me as far as team names go. Have you ever looked up photos or videos of a tango? They will make you blush like nobody's business.)

Who I write in order to vent? I don’t really write vent fics. I mean, I write some half-finished, unposted ones with Chase, and uh there was that one with Actor that the kink blogs got to (I realized it was because I tried to tag it mind control tw but I accidentally left out the tw so it just got into the main mind control tag).

Who I enjoy writing about getting comforted? Chase, mainly. He deserves it. And JJ too.

Who I like to hurt the most? Actor. And when it comes to the Vampire AU, Dr. Iplier. I don’t like hurting the Septic boys anymore, canon is doing it enough and it’s stressing me out so I’m just fluffing it up for them.

Who I enjoy writing soft? Well, I don’t really write any like, not canonically soft characters as soft. Um, I wrote JJ pretty soft and sweet.

Who I enjoy writing losing control? OH I WONDER- Actor. Also I haven’t written it really yet in the Vampire AU but boy howdy I wanna write one of those boys loosing it because of like hunger or a curse or something.Um... yeah.

Who I enjoy writing with gore? Hmm... I don’t really write gore, actually. Not a huge fan. I do it a bit with Actor, I suppose. Oh, wait, I usually include some in the Murder Trio stories so Wilford, Jimmy Casket (who yeah isn’t a Mark or Jack ego but he’s part of the Trio so I had to include him too), and Anti then.

Who I enjoy writing with horror concepts? ACT-OR, ACT-OR, ACT-OR! And Vamp!Dark, of course.

Who I enjoy writing corrupted/ puppeted? Actor. I like the idea of him being totally puppeted and stuff but not even realizing it. He thinks he is the director but he is most certainly not. And of course, the corruption, I mean that’s the whole thing with No Simple Walk In The Park. I-I’m just really fixated on Actor these days.

Who I enjoy making evil(who isn’t originally)? Uhhhhh back when I wrote the Septics more often I had an Evil!Marvin who I liked writing, he was fun. Don’t really do much else like that though...
