I'm going to do Alex as if I do Gene we'll be here forever as I don't think I would stop yelling about how much of a racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic dick he is.

I'm very torn about Alex. That's all I can really describe about my feelings towards her. I love that we have a strong female role-model as a main character and the way she handles the attitudes of the time with a will of steel is amazing, if I was suddenly in the 80s and had Ray to deal with I would have punched him within 5 minutes, let alone put up with him and try and make him a better person. I love the fact that she's such a strong character, but she's spoiled for me after the first 2 episodes of series 1. I really don't like her in those early episodes, she's up herself, thinks she's always right and I have no idea how they managed to put up with her. Because of those first episodes she was almost tainted in a way by them for me, I liked her better as the series' progressed but the shadow of those episodes always lingered and stopped me from liking her as much as I knew I would have had had the first couple of episodes been better. (I love 1.2 personally, the blitz club scene is one of my absolute favs but it's also the one I hate the most just because of how Alex acts)

I don't ship anyone romantically with Alex. I know a lot of the old fandom members it was always Galex but I've never found it appealing especially as I'm really not a big fan of Gene. I have a soft spot for Shalex though.

For me it boils down to either Gene or Shaz. With Gene they are very close, there is some sexual tension but I prefer to ignore it (see above) and they have a relationship that I can relate to as it reminds me of one of my own irl. They are always arguing but they have a good relationship underneath and agree on the good points. Both are really determined and somehow manage to keep the relationship alive without screaming too much. With Shaz I love seeing the relationship between them grow, they are the only 2 women in CID and I love seeing the way they look out for each other. They get closer and closer until by series 3 they are really good friends which is so good to see. The friendship is one of my favourite things about the show.

That she doesn't belong with Gene? I've seen so much of the fandom that thinks that her and Gene are OTPs but I don't think they are. I like their relationship as a platonic one and the way they work together but that's it. I like her by herself without Gene attached to her, she's such a strong character and I really do like her.

I wish we could have seen more of her and Shaz's friendship, especially in series 3. It seems like they are in 2 different groups (Alex, Gene and Keats, Chris, Shaz and Ray) dealing with 2 sides to the plot and while that works I wish we could have seen more of them together. 3.3 and 3.5 have lots of beautiful moments between the two of them and I wish they could be spread across the series.

My ships are something based mostly on voice lines, be them in-game or unused spawn chatters. All the ships still stand, even after the reveal of the lore, and the majority are of the platonic kind. That said, my list of ships includes: Ash/Fernando, Fernando/Jenos, Fernando/Damba, Ying/Fernando, and let's not forget the wacky trio Fernando/Drogoz/Ash. (What makes you think that I might be a wee-bit obsessed with some Spaniard, self appointed knight here? 👼 - mod Fernando 🌶️

My main ship is Sha/Lex just because of Mal-dambra's (and maybe Queezle's? can't remember if they did some too) art, honestly. I'm also a fan of Ashra thanks to that one trailer. Evie/Ying is cute  thanks to their voice lines. Controversial ship is Drogoz/Pip due to one art I saw once  - Mod Bomb King 💣

I am usually the shipper of a thousand ships but Paladins is so vastly different from what I'm usually into that I am Struggling to ship things. However, I ship Mal'Fern because of Mod Strix, Sha Lex because of Mal-Dambra, Shanando because of myself, Ashra because of Headcanons' Mod Ash, and Striktor because of the entire damn fanbase and because gay dads are best dads. -Aether 🏹

I wrote the thing! Personally I don’t ship them, but I do think they’d have some interesting dynamic going on if they actually dated. There are a few blogs on Tumblr that ship it, so I guess it’s a thing?

In all seriousness, besides me being ragingly homosexual for both of them, I do think Shalex makes for a good, compelling ship.

They’re both fans of gridball and players of it (Shane a former varsity team member and Alex a pro-wannabe).

They both struggle with issues of self-worth, though in wildly different ways.

They both come from broken homes and didn’t have parents around for most of their childhoods.

They both came to live with family members they love but that couldn’t ultimately heal their emotional scars.

They’re both massive animals lovers.

Alex would be SO willing to help Shane get into better shape. And Alex’s favorite food is eggs, which needlessly to say, Shane can provide very easily!
