The E5 is so cool, I wish trains were real

I might as well actually use this blog for something, huh? Since I have the URL now. For a first post here I’m just going to post pictures of all of the E5 Shinkansen merch I own, because why not? Unfortunately I don’t own a lightbox, I apologize for the quality here.

The first image I posted is a nanoblock-type kit, each car of the train was actually sold separately, although the front/rear and passenger cars ate two separate versions. I also have a Doctor Yellow version in storage somewhere, but I think it’s missing a couple pieces. I should check

Next up is a Plarail! I love Plarail. When I was a kid I had a whole track setup as a gift from a family friend who took business trips to Japan, I honestly blame that for me being a terminal weeb. For those who don’t know, Plarail is a type of plastic scale model train produced by TakaraTomy that runs on plastic tracks and requires no real assembly. It’s technically targeted at a younger age demographic, but I love it regardless. Unfortunately this E5 doesn’t have a motor, but it’s got a good reason for that at least…

You thought it was a normal train, but it was me, Shinkalion! A line of transforming robot toys, TakaraTomy combined Plarail with those other transforming robot toys they also make that you’re probably thinking of to create Shinkalion. I actually own almost every release in the Shinkalion Z toyline, which this specific figure comes from. I probably should watch the tie-in anime, but I also have to finish like, Roshidere and Tensura first, and who has time. I did watch the movie with a friend a while back though, I’m not convinced it was real. Look it up if you want to take psychic damage. I’ve heard the latest season might be more my thing though! I do want to check it out.

But of course, what is the E5 if not the H5’s better looking cousin? I might as well show off its counterpart from Hokkaido as well. To be honest, I really regret not applying the sticker detailing to this version. It really loses something, especially with the less eye-catching purple compared to the pink. Also, if you know anything about Shinkalion, it’s probably that the pilot of the H5 mech, at least in the first season, is Hatsune Miku. I actually do have the Shinkalion Miku Nendoroid, I just can’t be assed getting her out of storage right now.

And that’s the post! Hopefully at least someone will enjoy reading it. I might do more in-depth reviews of the other Shinkalion figures I own, or even other figures in general, although probably not on this blog.

….is…is that really a trend? Maybe that speaks of my own ignorance since I don’t really watch a lot of seasonal anime (I am very picky with my taste)…and also I’ve been watching anime aimed at kids like Shinkalion or the Yu-Gi-Oh rush animes.

The only anime I saw with an out of place SA scene at the beginning was Skeleton Knight, and I just assumed that was just something uniquely weird to that show.

I figured the probing scene in DanDaDan was a send up to the kind of cult movies that the Cinema Snob and Brandon Tenold review. Because at times it definitely feels like something Lucio Fulci would make.

The virtue signaling around Dandadan isn't just annoying as hell, it's also really weird.

Like, is this your first day on earth encountering manga and anime?

You just now decided to notice that it can get real weird? What, it entered your periphery because it's trending and popular (deservedly so) so now you wanna look good for pointing out the teenagers in underwear? Jumping on a bandwagon?

The underwear isn't even framed in a sexual way; and it happens to the ladies a total of twice in the manga (as of chapter 130+) and the rest falls on poor Okarun and sometimes Jiji.

The first episode is meant to stir up discomfort and fear; the tension eases when Okarun manifests through Momo's cell phone, then the catharsis of Momo unlocking her powers and unloading whoopass on the Serpos.

The second time is Momo's practical approach to a fight for their lives. The moment the relief passes between Momo and Okarun that they won and survived, most of the detail in how they're drawn fades out to become caricatures that comically sprint through the school screaming in embarrassment.

Show me one canon image of Momo, Aira, Vamola or Prez posing suggestively (they only stance for combat and aura, prove me wrong) and I'll consider the conversation.

Otherwise, please shut up.

I'm missing a few drivers from my Shinkalion plush collection. While I have everyone from Z, a little Genbu head, and even child Hokuto from the movie, I am missing five drivers from the original series- Rei, Takatora, Gin, Jou, and Tatsumi. I completed Seiryu last and then got distracted. So let's see if blogging about it will push me through.

This base turned out kinda big, and thus will be Takatora. That's all the felt I need in the bag next to him (positioned so Tumblr doesn't think it's a sand dune). I need four more bases for the remaining characters. Then I'll stitch everyone up. It may take some time.

Until then, Ginga will be the only Kyoto driver in Plushie Land. I don't think I posted him yet. I prefer his idol outfit, so I chose that for the plush. I'm sure he appreciates the little spotlight I'm giving him.

Hey, just watched that video you linked. WHAT THE HELL EVEN WAS GOING ON??? No no, not Godzilla, or Miku, or all the gundams, not even Shinji. Why did that one kid call what looked to be another kid “dad”????? Time travel??? Is it just the “parent looks super young” trope??? IM SO CONFUSED???

completely honestly. i haven't even seen the movie. but my guess is either time travel, or the blast that the kid and his dad took from snow godzilla somehow de-aged his dad. also possible dimension travel too, since i vaguely recall Shinji in this universe was implied to be from an alt. dimension???????? there was a lot going on in Shinkalion. Hatsune Miku was outright part of the main cast. there was a Hello Kitty train in it at one point

While we have nothing on Cyberworld besides some toyline leaks telling us characters who may or may not show up later, the real kicker is that if Takara is making Wild King, they must have seen something in Cyberworld that convinced them it was a non-starter, went "miss me with that scrap", and commissioned their own show, even if the said show is just a few shorts designed to show the toys off to the kids. The last time this happened, with Transformers Go! was because Transformers Prime utterly tanked in Japan for numerous reasons and Takara didn't want to waste money on airing more. Hell, one could argue the significant decline of the Transformers in television (through numerous unsuccessful TV shows, the fact that they stopped printing the IDW comics over there very early on when it was clear no one was buying them, and continued declining revenue at the box office) is why Takara is pushing Shinkalion as its primary mecha toy brand, down to having crossovers with shows the parents of the kids would be familiar with (including Evangelion, Galaxy Express 999, Hatsune Miku, and even a version of Godzilla in the movie), and making their own non-Hasbro, non-IDW influenced Transformers was simply the next logical step, with the option to reverse import it the same way RiD 2001/Car Robots was when Beast Machines tanked.

I'm not sure what lessons were learned from Earthspark, if any. We don't have a staff list, but I won't be surprised if Nick Roche is back for another round, meaning IDW-style writing, and kids being bored to death.

leaks on Cyberworld has megatron in it with meg bull likely being him with optimus prime as an offroad truck gonna be a nice change.

Mirage being bumblebee with grimlock and Snarl is also nice with Optimus being the leader.

decepticons having Galvatron,Sky Byte,megatron,and Scorponok.

This is the first time megatron and Galvatron would be seperate beings Galvatron being the leader with Megatron being the second in command replacing starscream,Skybyte replacing soundwave,and Scorponok taking over shockwave's role is what i am guessing.

I hesitate to assume what’s going on with Megatron and Galvatron here as we don’t know yet if they’re separate entities or if Megatron evolves into him.

Still, the original leaks weren’t clear if Megatron was involved or not, but more recent leaks have made it more clear Megatron is part of this series as a separate “Ultimate” toy was revealed.

It’s still confusing because we don’t know if Megatron is a bull or a bulldozer yet as of typing, and frankly either one would be refreshing. We need more variety than tank and sometimes helicopter anyway.

Scorponok I hesitate to assume now what he is. I’m not sure he’s gonna be the Shockwave, as the science minded Marvel version isn’t revisited very often and Beast Wars couldn’t quite to decide if their Scorponok was an idiot or a decent tech guy. The most well known version of Scorponok now is the monstrous kinda Cassette Bay version, and while the G1 design was used in Netflix WFC, he was still mostly a roaring kaiju in that series, so it’s possible he’s the dumb muscle here, especially going by the playset he’s part of.

If I would hazard a guess, my thought was Galvatron leads a Terrorcon unit similar to Energon and RotB. That remains to be seen if we get more “Terrorcons”, as EarthSpark didn’t make toys of several Decepticons, and while Megatron’s here, we don’t know if Starscream and the Waves are also here yet.

It would kinda fit the current idea of Autobots, Decepticons and a third party villain team the series has been going back to.

Prime had MECH, Cyberverse had the Quintessons, Mercs, and Perfect Decepticons, EarthSpark had the Arachnamechs, GHOST, and Quintessons, TFONE had Sentinel and the Quintessons, so CyberWorld having “Terrorcons” while Megatron still leads the Decepticons makes sense but if that’s what they’re doing I have no idea.

I like your idea of Megatron as the Starscream to Galvatron and Scorponok as the Shockwave. I suppose that makes Sky-Byte the Soundwave’s, which works because OG Sky-Byte was cartoonishly loyal to Megatron anyway.

That would be a preferable direction to try a new idea for the Decepticons, but I’m not sure I trust Hasbro to do that right now, due to their continued insistence of Aligned style backstory via TFONE and trying to make a repentant IDW type Megatron via WFC, Cyberverse and EarthSpark.
