Happy Hearth’s Warming! 2024

The Royal Family of the Crystal Empire spends a happy moment together.

I don’t think the Crystal Empire would celebrate Hearthswarming, but I feel Cadence and Shining would celebrate it or bring it over with them to the Empire since they both grew up with it in Canterlot. The two would definitely want Scarlet to experience the holiday, so they do the best they can to make it as best they can for him each year.

This year’s been a pretty good one for me artistically. I set myself a goal to upload at least one piece of art each month and succeeded! I’ll finally be able to do one of those art year summary things :D

Love Of My Life

He/she, nonbinary, young adult, bi, crystal unicorn

While his friends and family often call him 'Love', Love Of My Life prefers her full name above any sort of nickname.

What makes this pony special is her extreme charisma - He's very charming, and almost everypony falls completely head over hooves for her! Unfortunately for them, she "can't be tied down", and has never truly committed to having a special somepony. Instead, he's made a bit of a habit of pairing up ponies she thinks would be good together.

His unicorn magic is very weak, and likely very mixed with pegasus magic, as this unicorn can walk on clouds! ... Of course, all it does is make ponies fall for her even more.

Permafrost

He/him, cis stallion, late teen, ???, crystal unicorn

Crystal ponies are all born with a certain crystal within them - His mother's is rose quartz, Love Of My Life's is garnet, but Frost... Something went wrong, and he ended up with ice instead. He's constantly cold, and no amount of blankets or fire helps.

Despite his constant shivering, he actually has quite a warm personality. He's very patient, having learned to live with his affliction, and is very understanding when foals ask about his horn. He handles winter in the Crystal Empire very well, his internal body temperature already matching the temperature outside, and has found his talent in making ice sculptures using his magic.

Candygram loves love and everything to do with it! She takes after her mother in this regard, and is affectionately known as 'the littler princess of love'. Her absolute most favorite holiday is Hearts and Hooves Day, which is also her birthday!

She has a knack for bringing people together, so much that it's become the thing she's special for. Friendship, communication, and unity are all very important to this little filly!

Her wings aren't just wings, they're clouds! Real life clouds! If you were to touch them, your hoof would pass right right through!

🩷 Has an ongoing open relationship with her spouses, Cheesecake and Sediment. Though she isn’t currently dating anyone outside her marriage at the moment, Cadance has previously had flings with ponies such as Scarlet Heart, Ms. Peachbottom, Fleur De Lis, Royal Pin, and Donut Joe. The throuple is well-known for being the most genuine, compassionate, kind-hearted bunch in all of Equestria, and have bushels of love to go around : )

🩷 When she and her partners finally agreed on having children together, Cadance decided on a spell that would combine all three of their genes into one foal. Cheesecake happily volunteered to carry the baby, buuut... something went wrong. Instead of changeling all her magic into one carrier, Cadance made a mistake in the incantation and all three of them ended up pregnant. Eventually, she gave birth to her and Sediment’s child (Olive Branch), Sediment gave birth to her and Cheesecake’s child (Tough Cookie), and Cheesecake gave birth to her and Cadance’s child (Kindred Spirit).

🩷 Has a biiit of a nasty sweet tooth. Cheesecake learned that the hard way, after walking in on her wife devouring her wife’s secret candy stash one evening. This resulted in a lengthy lecture about “not touching Cheese’s Special Sweet Stash”, much to Cadance’s embarrassment.

🩷 Is permanently crystal-ized, and switches between liking her extra shine and absolutely despising it. “I can’t fly anywhere outside the Crystal Empire without practically blinding everypony I meet!”

A lot of what I would put as her bio is spoilers for Scarlet’s story, since their stories are linked together as siblings.

She tries her best to be the best princess she can be for her people.

Cutiemark: Blue sharp tall crystals breaking through a crack of a polished rock. Different kinds of flowers are beneath the crystals and rock. Flowers include calla lilies, delphiniums, many roses and a main yellow rose. There’s also gold leaf framing the mark at the bottom.

This cutiemark represents her talent in using flower language to keep her kingdom and those she loves safe. It also represents her connection to princesshood and the Crystal Empire.

Flurry matured quite a bit in her older years and styled her mane to suit her demeanor a bit more. Her role in the whole scheme of things is organization and paperwork, handling the elites of Canterlot and the nonsense bureaucracy that comes with it. She's incredibly intelligent and observant, with a great memory to boot. All the years of Twilights tutoring paid off. With her mothers influence she also became silver tongued, using her knowledge of ponies to get things done.  Cheese only matured somewhat, with the guidance of her tutor and lifelong friend Flurry they grow up to be a Hacktivist. Somepony who gains unauthorized access to computer files or networks in order to further social or political ends. She's a big bleeding heart and willing to anything for what they think is right. However, she also tends to be a bit of an airhead and can take unneeded risks...their accuracy rate not distracting from the point. Either way, the pair of them adore eachother to no end. Cheese being the only pony who can crack through her Princess' icy exterior. What with her games and stupid puns and pranking ponies she doesn't like.  She goes by Princess Heart or Flurrence depending, while her mentees real name is Raspberry Confetti Creme, Lil Cheese being her online alias.

Personality: Extroverted, sappy, optimistic, a hopeless romantic, and almost always knows exactly what somepony needs to make them feel better (“How did you know hyacinths were my favorite flower? You seem like a hyacinth kind of pony”).

Fatal Flaws: Nosy, obnoxious, clingy, has an accidental habit of interrupting ponies, and still has difficulty controlling her magic sometimes (when you possess the abilities of a full-grown alicorn as an infant, it’s not exactly easy to master them).

Oh, and she’s also cured… but we’ll get to that part soon enough ; )

Special Talent: Matchmaking

Cutie Mark Story: After her father, Shining Armor, passed away in battle when she was just a toddler, Flurry Heart was determined to find her grieving mother a new partner. Candance, once cheerful and full of life, had become a depressed shut-in who refused to speak to anyone outside the castle walls.

One day, the clever young filly hired a court jester—a cheerful party pony named Cheesecake—to entertain the sullen mare, and the two hit it off immediately. Cheesecake and her stallionfriend, Sediment Pie, both worked in the crystal empire as an entertainer and guards-pony respectively. All three of their personalities intwined perfectly, with just the right amount of playfulness and hardworking spirit to get the job done.

This is precisely why nopony was surprised when they finally made their relationship public. Sediment became the leader of the crystal guard, while Cheese worked as the head party planner of the empire.

And where was Flurry in all of this? Writing the invitations to their future wedding of course! All while being one of the youngest ponies in her family to get her cutie mark.

Wanted to make him Aro/Ace because I think having one of Cadance’s kids be Aro/Ace is a cute concept, and also because MiyaTheGoldenFlower making Flurry Aro/Ace in her verse gave me the idea :]

Likes alcohol, attention, playing the guitar, wooing anyone he comes across and needle felting. Special talent is wine making. Named after a type of grape as well as a type of wine. Likes attention but doesn’t desire a romantic partner. A cocky bastard but genuinely kind at heart.

💙 Princex Apollo L’Amour Sparkle - 4th child. Nonbinary Demi/Poly Pony (They/them). 26 y/o. Pegasus (with lunacorn attributes). Partially named after the newest type of chocolate, and shares part of her name with Ruby Roman Rainier, son of Mica (Marble) Pie and Cherry Jubilee. Very excitable; loves everyone and everything. Surprisingly not as self-conscious about being the only Earth Pony in the family as you might think. Has a lot of love in her heart. The brains to Eros’ brawn.

💙 Prince Eros Eversweet Pomegranate - 5th child, twin brother of Ruby. Cis Gay Stallion (He/him). 22 y/o. Common Alicorn (with lunacorn attributes). Likes helping others find love, fairy tales, pie, crocheting and birdwatching. Special talent is matchmaking. Named after the Greek god of love/a cultivar of strawberry and a cultivar of pomegranate. Very calm and relaxed, but quick to anger if you hurt his loved ones. Regardless, he’s a sweet guy and is friends with pretty much everyone. I had a lot of fun designing everyone!! I took a lot of inspiration from other MLP/MLP NG artists but also came up with some ideas myself. I first saw the heart-shaped horn concept from @/fastserve, the Royal Alicorn HC from @/lieutenantcactus, and the concept of lunacorns (or moonicorns) from @/Lopoddity. Ngl I was a bit intimidated when it came to designing the other 5 ShiningDance kids because I wanted to make them look good, but I'm really happy with how they came out! I personally don’t mind straying into more common NG design tropes because at the end of the day we’re all just making kids for candy-colored horses, so it’s supposed to be a lil self-indulgent, but I did try to make something different. Can’t say I’ve seen a lot of ShiningDance kids with green hair! But yeah. Just a reminder that their designs could change whenever I get to making their actual refs (and I’m still only on S4, so I still have 5 seasons worth of lore/character stuff to eventually take into account), but for now I’m having fun doing these headshots. The next design choice to tackle will be their cutiemarks, which I know I’m gonna struggle with, but we'll get there when we get there
