felicity — shim jae-yun (jake)
/fɪˈlɪsɪti/
noun
intense happiness.
[friends to lovers]
[i was so bias-wrecked while writing this]
jake. your best friend since childhood. you grew up together, and you distinctly remember your parents telling you that the red brick house on the other side of the house was officially occupied. so, you and your family decided to wish your new neighbours a congratulations and offer a few gifts. and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
“i’ve been thinking,” jake began, lying on your bed while you sat at the desk.
“that’s scary,” you remarked playfully, turning your attention towards him. “what’s up?”
you watched as he sat up, rolling his eyes in the process before saying, “i want to be an idol.”
your eyes widened at his words, “what?”
he nodded, beaming as he spoke, “i really wanna do it. it’ll be fun!”
a small smile settled on your face as you watched his eyes light up while he went on about his dream.
“you should do it,” you said, “i’ll be rooting for you. you know that.”
“i know,” he whispered, falling back onto the bed. “if i get in—”
“when,” you correct, “you’re going to get in. i know you will.”
“i’m going to miss you.”
you laughed, patting his head, “i’m going to miss you too.”
jake did get scouted, entering a show called i-land and before you knew it, his whole family was about to up and leave for korea. so you stood at the airport terminal, tears in your eyes as you watched your best friend of ten years leave for korea.
“i thought you said you wouldn’t cry,” jake chuckled, resting a hand on your head. “hey…”
“of course i’m going to cry, you’re leaving…” you sniffed, wiping the tears away with the sleeves at your hands. “i don’t want you to go but… i know you want to.”
he smiled sadly, dropping his hand. “i’m going to miss you so much.”
“don’t forget me when you’re famous, okay?” you laugh, but it was humourless. “i’m going to miss you too, jake. and layla.”
he lets out a breath, looking at the ground before looking back at you. “i’ll call you everyday.”
“as you should,” you said. “until next time.”
“until next time.” jake ran a hand through his hair as he looked from you to the entrance of the plane where his parents were standing. just as he was about to walk to them, he wrapped his arms around you, whispering, “cheer for me, okay?”
you hugged him back tightly, responding quietly, “물론이야 (mullon-iya)*.”
***
you yawn, the rough landing jolting you awake.
“attention passengers, we have landed. please unbuckle your seatbelts and exit the plane.” the flight attendant announces from the loud speaker, and you stretch in your seat.
the nine - almost ten - hour flight from australia to korea was long enough to knock you out, and you groggily made your way out of the plane.
after retrieving your luggage, you made it into a train, and you plugged your earphones in. a video on your youtube recommendations caught your eye, and you blinked at the title.
“who is jake’s biggest supporter?” you mumble quietly to yourself, clicking on the video.
the text voice fills your ears with the words, “a few days ago on the vlive, jake said that his biggest supporter is in australia. but engenes say that the way he talks about this mystery person is more than just a supporter.”
“you’re an engene too?” a voice cuts through the video and look up to see a girl, a teenager, looking at your screen.
“uh... something like that,” you say awkwardly.
“that’s so cool! oh, you’re watching about the vlive a few days ago, right?” she grins, brushing her bangs out of her face. “i wonder who they are…”
“what did he say about them?” you ask slowly, “i didn’t have time to watch the live.”
“that’s okay!” she smiles, taking a seat beside you. “jake said that this supporter has been with him since pre-debut days and has always been there to help him. i think he said something about how he wanted to give up but they’ve always helped him persevere.”
you nod slowly, holding the chuckle in your throat. “i see.”
“you’re a foreigner, right? unnie*, where are you from?”
“australia,” you say, just as your phone begins to ring with a facetime call, the name ‘jake’ appearing on the screen, and the train doors open to yongsan station.
the girl looks from the phone to you, the gears in her head beginning to turn. “wait—”
“that’s my stop, see you!” you wave goodbye, and leave the train.
accepting the call, you smile when you hear jake’s voice, “(y/n), you haven’t been picking up!”
“huh?” you laugh when you see five missed calls from him the duration you were on the plane. “jake, i was busy!”
“obviously,” he snickers, and you roll your eyes, watching as he fixes the mask on his face. “weren’t you the one who told me to keep in touch?”
“oh don’t you start,” you chuckle.
he runs a hand through his hair, a habit he may-or-may-not have stolen from sunghoon, and he squints to stare at your screen. “hold on, where are you right now?”
“uh... the station,” you say, and you technically aren’t lying. “why?”
“it looks familiar— why is there korean on that sign?”
“multicultural australia, ya gotta love it!” you chuckle nervously, “anyway—”
“wait, wait, are you in korea?”
“uh... no?”
“liar!” he exclaims, getting up from his seat. “aiyo, why didn’t you tell me? i would have picked you up! where are you?”
“it was meant to be a surprise!” you whine, “you ruined it!”
“yeah, yeah,” he laughs, saying something to one of the managers in quick korean, “where are you, i’m picking you up.”
“are you allowed to?” you ask quickly, “jake, we can just meet up where i’m staying.”
“sejin said i can,” he says, putting on a bucket hat and a jacket before climbing into the car. “where are you?”
“yongsan station. it’s really pretty here!”
a second later, the call cuts off, leaving you a little confused but you shrug it off. you wonder around the station, buying yourself a well-needed coffee, and looking at the multitude of stores. that is, before someone tapped you on the shoulder.
“excuse me, i’m looking for (l/n) (y/n), have you seen them?”
“jake!” you squeal, and he lifts you into his arms, spinning you around.
he laughs, squeezing you tighter. “i missed you so much, (y/n).”
“i missed you too,” you say, before looking him up and down. “you’re so different now! have you been eating enough? sleeping well?”
he chuckles, mumbling under his breath in korean, “너는 천사다 (neoneun cheonsada)**.”
“huh?”
“nothing,” he says quickly, “come on, let’s go.”
notes:
*물론이야 (mullon-iya): of course
** 너는 천사다 (neoneun cheonsada): you are an angel

❝ the way you almost loved me ❞ - sim jake
genre: angst, little fluff
pairing: sim jake x gn!reader
wc: 934
warnings: heartbreak, unrequited love
tagging: @bloom-bloom-pow @youreverydayzebra
Falling in love was easy. Or at least, it should have been.
For you, it was a breeze. Especially when Jake made it so easy to fall in love with him. You would intertwine your hand with his and look at him lovingly, and everything was perfect.
For Jake, it was a bit more complicated. For months now, he had caught onto the glances stolen by others, the whispers in the halls of how the two of you were so in love. And Jake being Jake, he believed them. He convinced himself into believing he was in love with you.
So when you told him you liked him, he wasn’t hesitant to say that the feeling was mutual, although the words left a bitter taste on his mouth.
He convinced himself that if he just tried hard enough, he wouldn’t have to lie to you. Besides, you seemed like an easy person to fall in love with. But the more Jake tried to force himself into feelings, the farther he chased an unattainable euphoria.
Jake wasn’t one who did things shamelessly, he felt remorse and regret for fooling you, but what could he do? No matter how hard he tried to fall in love with you, to see you the way you saw him, he couldn’t.
You can’t force love, nor can you love someone into loving you back.
The more Jake thought about it, the more he wondered if he was in love with you, or the idea of being in love with you. He didn’t want to lose you in any way, but it hurts. It hurts you, and it hurts him for hurting you.
Jake’s mind rattles with possible solutions to his unique conundrum, but none of them are foolproof. None of them can guarantee Jake won’t lose you. He scratches at the fabric on his wrist and runs a hand through his hair, he just doesn’t know what to do.
Jake’s acting skills kick in as you and the rest of his friends slowly stagger into his house wearing a smile. Jake strolls up to you and places a chaste kiss on your forehead, before pulling you in closer for a hug. Jake feels incredibly guilty.
And while Jake’s acting is good, the instincts of his best friend are better. Sunghoon asks to speak to Jake outside for a bit, to which he nods before following him out.
“So what’s up with you and y/n?” He finally asks, getting straight to the point.
Jake shuffles uncomfortably as he rubs the back of his nape with his hand “I’m not sure what you mean, me and y/n are fine” He lies, trying his best not to raise any suspicion.
“No, no you aren’t. You’ve been looking at them like you ran over their puppy all day.” He bluntly remarks. Jake underestimated Sunghoon. “Someone is going to get hurt if you don’t fess up, Jake.”
Without Jake even needing to tell him, Sunghoon is aware of the entire situation. The two of them saunter back into the room with everyone else, trying their best not to raise any suspicion.
When everybody leaves his house, Jake and you sit in a comfortable silence. “Are you okay? You seem tense.” You query, taking note of his uncomfortable behavior and guilty looking eyes.
“I can’t do this.” He brusquely states, avoiding your eyes as he does.
You freeze for a moment before calming yourself. “What do you mean?”
Guilt and remorse beginning to overtake him, he decides he has to finish what he started “I can’t do us.”
The silence in the room is deafening.
The gears of your brain begin to turn as you try to even begin understanding what in the world Jake is talking about. “Why not..?” You subtly ask, choking back tears that threaten to escape your eyes.
“You’re a great person, and a wonderful friend, but I think that’s all we are…friends.” The distressing atmosphere is killing him as he tries to think of a sentence that won’t make you hate him.
You stand there, still trying to process the information given to you.
Watching you, the overflow of shame begins to overtake Jake as he begins rambling to fill the silence. “I didn’t- I didn’t mean to hurt you, that wasn’t the plan. I thought that I could convince myself into liking you but it’s just…it’s just too hard. I’m sorry, y/n.”
“Am I really that unlovable? You can’t even pretend to like me?” You ask through fragments of tears, the expression on your face unreadable.
“No, y/n, that’s not what I’m saying. It’s just- you deserve someone who really loves and cares about you. I can’t do that for you.” You remain silent, but your eyes are telling him everything he needs to know. “I still want you as a friend but I just…”
He continues to ramble in desperation of saving the fragments of your friendship, but it’s long gone by now. “I’m sorry y/n.”
You walk out of his house wordlessly, not even knowing what you would begin to tell him. The weight of your heart is heavier with each step you take, the remnants of Jake still floating in your mind. His words begin replaying in your head over and over like a broken record, reminding you of it all.
And you can’t help but think about how loving you was the kindest thing he almost did.

Best Korean face claims to use? any age and gender.
I'm going to preface this with a very important message to please be mindful of playing Korean characters because the roleplay community tends to fetishize and use racist stereotypes - a Google search will explain things to be careful of and writingwithcolor is also a great resource.

Juvenile Justice (Spoiler Free Review)
Yet another drama about law and justice but how good is this one?
Shim Eun Seok is a judge who hates juvenile offenders and her colleague, Cho Tae Joo is the opposite of her.
They both have their own beliefs and thoughts about what kind of punishment children should have and it is shown while they work on different cases.
The first episode was incredibly interesting, the case, meeting with the characters and the whole setting was just very good.
However, differently from all the good reviews the drama had, I do not think it is that great.
The strongest part of the drama was the juvenile cases and how they have dealt with them.
They were interesting and almost always I was intrigued about what is going to happen to the side characters (except for the two episodes with those cheating students, couldn’t care less).
But other than that I didn’t see any other pros in this drama, so let’s start focusing on the cons.
The biggest disappointment for me was the characters, the main ones. As much as children had interesting personalities and you can see where they are coming from mostly... Some of them are just evil.
However, Shim Eun Seok and Cho Tae Joo were just bland.
Cho Tae Joo always tries to see good in everyone and seems more like a pushover when he’s next to Eun Seok.
His backstory was alright, it was interesting to see where he’s coming from and why he tries to act kindly with children but other than that he has no personality and is just there.
All we know about Eun Seok for more than half of the drama is that she hates juvenile offenders and that’s her story.
You can see her soft side for a few moments but then she just goes back to her stone-cold face.
This would have been probably fine if we have known something about the character and why she is like that but at the point where they show her background story, I could not care less.
Yes, it is very sad and depressing but so is all of the episodes, talking about serious topics and all, so I had no connection to any of the characters.
I think even side characters, and stenographers (I think that’s what their job was but I’m not completely sure, Park Ji Yun and Shin Jae Hwi’s characters) were way more interesting and for me, they stole the show whenever they were on screen.
Overall, I saw a lot of people enjoying this drama but now I’m just confused because I really disliked most of the things.
As mentioned before, the main characters are just bland and not interesting to watch, doesn’t really help that it’s a law drama and the plot (minus the cases) is just non-existent.

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)
This drama is based on a Webtoon of the same name, and I wanted to read it after finishing the drama, but it would be too expensive with more than 100 chapters locked behind separate paywalls. It's available on WebNovel though, if anyone is interested.
From the 10 chapters I did get to read though, I can definitely see why some people might not like this adaptation. It was like trying to compare two completely separate stories that just happened to share characters. I did recognize bits and pieces of the drama in the webtoon, but it was not a lot.
I, personally, prefer the drama, but I might be biased since I watched that first. But anyway, let's get into it.
From what I had seen, I expected a light-hearted drama about some young trainees trying to make it big - and it was largely that as well, but the first 10 minutes or so really surprised me. This is where my first warning comes in as well - though it doesn't show the act itself, it makes it very clear that a young woman commits suicide.
And now that we're in the dark parts, let's just stay there. The drama is overall very cute and funny, but there were two moments that really stood out to me, bothering me quite a bit. It is no secret that the kpop idol world is largely unhealthy behind the scenes, and they do touch on that here, though in a way that usually works. But these two moments just... I'm gonna make it tiny cause I have a lot to say 😅
In one scene, a manager is yelling at his young idols, making them weigh themselves in front of each other and scolding them for gaining (very little weight), which later results in them binging in secret. Now, this is something I know happens, but did they really have to play it off like it was nothing like that? And making the actors go through that as well just feels off...
Another point is where they start hinting at Hyun-ji losing weight and looking too skinny to the point where they comment on her cold hands as well, but no one really does anything about it? And then she is invited out to eat and suddenly all is well, despite the drama showing her struggling a lot mentally. I wish they hadn't just brushed over something like this that could have been a serious problem.
My point is mainly that, if they really want to show the actual struggles of the kpop idols behind the scenes, don't play it off as something normal and something that can just be fixed by a quick meal and some nice words. They handled everything with Annie decently in my opinion, so I wish they would have shown the same care with everything else as well.
Otherwise, I did actually enjoy this drama, though I know it doesn't sound like it. It's cringy and cheesy as hell and has almost every cliché you can think of, but it somehow just makes it work. I even somewhat accept the love triangle in it, and that says a lot.
The romance was pretty cute, but I honestly watched it more for the friendships that developed between all the characters. I absolutely adore the girls of Tea Party and genuinely wanted them to succeed, and the same for the boys in Sparkling. And had I been a part of this universe, I would definitely have been a SHAX fan. La Ri-ma is a queen and I love what they did with her character so so much.
I won't say this drama is perfect, it definitely is a little rough around the edges, but I like that it gave some new faces a chance at acting. (I'm talking mainly about the Ateez members here, as I don't really know much about the other actors/actresses). I really feel like they could be great after some proper experience and training if they want to stay in the acting scene.
But this is pretty much all I have to say. I don't really see why people were so disappointed in it, and I've seen some talking about it getting worse throughout the episodes, but I found it was an enjoyable watch overall.

kpopfcs masterlist of man faceclaims …
following my recent inspiration to make a few masterlists, i welcome you to one which includes 150 man faceclaims between the ages of 30 to 39 at the time of making this post. all of these men are korean to not complicate anything, and it includes idols, actors, etc. i’m hoping this will encourage the rpc to step out of the comfort zone and explore the use of a wider range of faceclaims, especially those that are unknown and don’t work in western media. some may not have resources. please reblog this to spread the words, and like this if you found it useful! masterlist part 2 of many.
