THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Childhood trauma, exploitive variety shows, manhwa store hackers, flirty probation officers, lazy co-workers, office action figures, bags of cash, phishing scams, gambling, hidden bathroom revolvers, red notebooks, arson, neck tattoos, revenge, independent journalism, and lifelong friendships.

HOT TAKE: On some sites I've see this show also listed as a Comedy, but for every laughable moment in this show there's at least a dozen moments of childhood trauma. That being said, it's so hilarious to see Kim Dong Wook and Yoon Park together again (previously 'You Are My Spring') as super well-dressed, shippable main characters.

ENJOYED THE DELIGHTFULLY DECEITFUL

One Kim Dongwook after another Kim Dongwook. This is the drama I watched right after finishing My Perfect Stranger. I also love Chun Woo Hee’s performance ever since I watched Be Melodramatic and it was one of my most favorite drama ever. Actually I was not looking for a complicated drama so I was doing other things while watching the drama but then I got hooked. They really were building the climax as things get to the end. 

I was completely clueless to who the president is, even though when I got first glimpse of his character I know that he is so suspicious lol. Every characters got their time to shine and I really love it. Maybe because of how fast the story is going or because there were quite a lot of them, the way the characters doing things were kind of tasteless and robotic for me, maybe because the director or the writer feels rushed. 

These are the actors that makes this drama interesting. I love how they act and I love seeing new faces like Yoo Hee Je and Lee Yeon, I will find another works of them and watch If I got interested in the topic. This is the second time Yoon Park works together with Kim Dongwook since You are My Spring, and I love seeing familiar set in a new drama lol. I also being giddy with Sojin(of Girl’s Day), I’ve seen her on My Sh**ting Star and the characters that she played always shining.

I don’t expect them speaking about sympathy-empathy values and of giving other chances and trying to trust others too as the end note though. It was amazing how Kim Dong Wook got 2 dramas released in the same month and it was great how the two of them got good results.

The 8 Show (Korean: 더 에이트 쇼) is a 2024 South Korean dark comedy thriller television series, written and directed by Han Jae-rim. The series, which stars Ryu Jun-yeol, Chun Woo-hee, Park Jeong-min, Lee Yul-eum, Park Hae-joon, Lee Zoo-young, Moon Jeong-hee, and Bae Seong-woo, is based on the Naver webtoons "Money Game" and "Pie Game" by Bae Jin-soo. It revolves around eight participants who must navigate cooperation and conflict in an isolated setting where the game concludes with a death. The show premiered on Netflix on May 17, 2024.

Eight strangers enter a game where they are confined in a building, earning money for every minute the game continues. Each night, they are isolated in separate rooms on different floors and must purchase provisions at exorbitant prices using their earnings. During the day, they collectively buy provisions, facing the challenge of higher floors earning more and having better living conditions. This disparity leads to power struggles and efforts to discover how to extend the game time.

Development: Initially titled "Money Game," the series is based on the webtoons by Bae Jin-soo. Han Jae-rim directs, with production by Studio N and Magnum Nine, and investment by Lotte Cultureworks.

Budget: The series was produced with a budget of over ��24 billion (US$20.98 million).

Casting: Ryu Jun-yeol and Bae Seong-woo were the first to be cast, with other actors joining later. Chun Woo-hee replaced Lee Ji-eun.

Filming: Principal photography took place from May to December 2022.

Honest Comment:

I'm curious about this series because of the title " The 8 Show" like what is the meaning of it? at first episode it is like the kdrama series The squid game but it is a show for all the anonymous people can watch. There are numbers to choose once you enter the building at first I didn't catch about the numbers but when I watch the series I kinda like the series because it is full of surprise. Some says that it is similar to the Squid game but I assure you it is different it is about how many you can earn money while the clock is ticking. Every episode has a different story and style we can see the emotions and attitude of all the cast in the series. For me the show is great love the storyline it is just like there is still missing in the show.

I would not recommend this drama to my friends. I would not rewatch this drama.

Interesting themes of existentialism, family problems, receiving help or not, giving the baton to the other person since you've made your opinions or feelings clear, and choosing the right choice. It's interesting how many characters are like now it's up to you, you hold the cards. Saeroyi has an impact on people throughout time, and his actions stay memorable to people enough to change them. I cannot fathom that impact considering how I could do the same but those actions would just be forgotten. I do think it can oftentimes be about the person and not the action. Or at least the perception of the person. I get a lot of similar sentiments to Prison Playbook. Even Saeroyi's weird hair. His morals and this community building are like Prison Playbook.

Once Saeyori started reciprocating feelings for Yi Seo, I thought they were soo cute. I feel warm despite comments I've heard that they don't have chemistry. I don't relate. I so understand Saeroyi when like feelings are involved so it's more difficult to have skinship like petting Yi Seo's hair. Geun Soo recognizing that the person he likes is bad to him..those moments are sad to me bc I get it. Geun Soo is literally MIchael Corleone.

Seong Kwon was hot when fighting Hee Hoon. I'm here for Saeroyi in nice clothes by the end. Park Bogum being a handsome chef is the randomest thing but thanks for popping up. Saeroyi's money-building plans are so hot. Saeroyi's awkwardness and physical motions are so adorable, especially when trying to befriend Soo Ah.

Is escaping a kidnapping really the place for a love confession? I really thought the Best Pub show was gonna be rigged. People are so extreme with their feelings, especially Geun Soo. The name Saeyori is so saerowuh.

I like that Yi Seo draws. I love Hong Suk Chun being a likeable minor character. I love seeing Yi Seo fall for Saeroyi, especially when she asks for help in the restroom. Wow Saeroyi put his hand on Yi Seo's head. I would fall too. It's actually impressive how Yi Seo sold herself to become manager. I love Yi Seo explaining clubbing to Seung Kwon. I love how Yi Seo cockblocks Soo Ah's first kiss with Saeroyi, Idk what I would've done in that situation. I love the plants in Yi Seo's office.

Everyone's morals are so stubborn, but individual. I actually love it because I relate to it a lot. My moral gray gets it. The toxicity of people who choose bad when they also don't want to. I've seen it so much. I can't with Soo Ah in the beginning disliking receiving help and people asking for help yet she becomes a sub for Jang Dae Hee.

The emotions on Saeroyi's face, amazing. Son Hyun Joo plays such a pivotal character. Why is he so ideally optimistic and casual and supportive and the dad of all dads? He also has a cute personality. Saeroyi and his dad's dynamic, unbelievable. Especially, when an orphanage is a relevant concept. Yi Seo and her mom also have an interesting relationship.

Can you believe this cast? My babies, Ahn Bo Hyun & Park Bo Gum. Kim Hye Eun, a queen as always. Son Hyun Joo, the man I've known forever. I easily recognized Kang Hyoung Suk from Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Yoo Jae Myung playing this kind of character when he's literally like Son Hyun Joo's character in Vincenzo. & then Yi Seo's mom is literally the villain in Vincenzo. Interesting to see Lee Joo Young as a transgender character.

i completely agree anon. i pointed out seungri's manipulation of his fans from before the news broke out—throughout his career he had always been profiting from that "just a normal guy" maknae image and it's clear that he used that as a screen to hide his real face from the public. but now that everything is in the open, if you're still a fan, you're complacent and you should rot. end of story.

lee sunkyun and many others have been wronged by false accusations and violent media witch-hunts, and while that is vile and unforgivable, i will never understand a society in which the consumption of drugs (a largely victimless crime) is taken more seriously than sexual violence.
