I really want to see a more fucked up version of Charlie in canon. Like, okay, I am a die-hard for sweet bubbly girls in media. But I always see how some people make Charlie actually, oh I dunno... demonic? And it's so refreshing for her type of character. I could honestly see her having low empathy (and we kinda see this with how she handled Angel's situation or even Vaggie's nervousness about taking control on an activity). An exploration of that trait (if it was intended) would be interesting to see for a protagonist, especially when her main goal is about helping others. I would love to see her actually have a level of difficulty in understanding others' feelings from the other residents, sinners, and even her father.

But give her a fucked up side. Not a "she gets more power when she's angey uwu", but a "oh, she's a little fucked in the head". It would give so much to her character that she just doesn't have.

@/murmurmurena (don't wanna bother them so slash there we go) has some fun ideas with Charlie. I highly encourage people to check their stuff out! So many fun dark ideas with her character while also still keeping to her canon personality pretty well! Personally, I think Charlie being a bit more naive to her own messed up traits would work best but her also being aware of these traits can make for some interesting character for her.

THIS FIC, "A Game Between You and I". RIGHT HERE WITH THE FIRST CHAPTER. A bit of spoil for the fic here: but I love how they handled Charlie’s absolute ignorance as to why the idea of Russian roulette is horrifying to Angel Dust. It doesn't feel like her being intentionally malicious or aware that she's the odd man out here. This is also a pretty old fic going by only the pilot, but the point still stands that it was such a fun take for her character!

Charlie is one of my favorite characters in the show in part of the POTENTIAL she could have as being the most bubbly sweetheart character while also being the most messed up character in the show. I can't say I have strong confidence with the show's writing and fully expect them to stick with Charlie being the "nice girl but oh no, don't get her angry or she gets scarwy". Which isn't bad for a character mind you, there's just so much more potential to Charlie outside of that trope, especially when you get into the theories of her either being a doll, Roo's biological daughter, or what have you. And for the MAIN CHARACTER of the show, it would be not only interesting but also bring the spotlight back to her.

There's really no question that the side characters steal the show, particularly all the male characters. If I'm honest, Charlie does not feel like she gets a lot of love from the show itself when she's supposed to be the main character. She feels far more flat compared to the rest of the characters (again, the male cast in this "female-lead" show has more depth than most of the female cast currently. I wouldn't be pointing this tidbit concerning the genders of characters if it weren't for the fact Viv defended Helluva's lack of development with their female cast by saying "Hazbin is a female-lead show and Helluva is a male-lead" and Hazbin ended up with it not feeling female lead (to me) and the male cast just completely stealing the show. I don't normally care about gender stuff, especially since I do personally lean interest towards male characters. But using one show as a defense for poor development of the female characters, and then that show not really holding up with no very interesting well-developed feeling female characters irritates me. It's just very clear that these shows don't seem to care much about the female cast :/)

If you like how Charlie is written that's totally fine. PERSONALLY, I just think they're missing so much opportunity with her character by just making her the standard female character type. I honestly don't have a lot of faith they'll actually do something with Charlie's character though. She's a pretty static character in S1 being the same from start to end. Not changing or learning anything to create any development. What does the end of season Charlie do that start of season Charlie wouldn't do? Fight back? Because we see with the pilot (which is the “first episode”) that Charlie does fight people if pushed like with Katie Killjoy and even Valentino. Static characters can work in media depending on the show or their role. But Charlie is the MC of a show about “bettering one's self”. So to have her as a static with not a lot of strong dilemmas for herself (like we see with Angel Husk Al and even Vox) seems silly. Plus, considering Hazbin is telling a whole story and it's not a fun episodic thing, characters are expected to grow on some level. Or else, what was the point of their hero's journey?

The whole public sex discourse is insane. But what goes beyond insane into heart-dropping, what the fuck where did we go wrong territory is this attitude of ‘who cares if kids see? They’ll be having sex one day eventually.’ Like???? Yeah, most likely they will. My six year old kid will one day drive an automobile. Does that mean I should just give him the keys this morning and let him drive himself to school? I mean, he’s going to drive EVENTUALLY, right? I mean, they’re going to do it one day anyway, WHY NOT NOW??? Why NOT get your six year old wasted and zooted and teach them how to properly fuck?? Does that make you feel weird? What are you? Sorry I'm on the pain train today, but I really think that Moiraine blames herself for what happened to her at the Eye all throughout season 2. This is a woman who has a plan within a plan within a plan, and even though she is fully aware of how dangerous the mission is, and how she is almost certainly going to die because of it, she still had some very specific expectations for how things were going to go at the (not-so-final) battle. She brought the sa'angreal for Rand to use, and she was ready to channel and fight for him while he woke up/gathered his strength/found a way to touch the Source. The thing she never expected to happen was for Ishamael to be able to cut her off even as she threw her whole body into channeling to protect Rand. We know how powerful she is. We know that this was her final mission. A suicide mission. Her entire being was devoted to that final channel and when Ishamael shields her, the sound she makes--total disbelief, panic--betrays the fact that she never imagined that he would be able to do what he did. She thought he might kill her for sure, and that she'd go out in a blaze of glory, but this? Left behind as a Forsaken's plaything? It was never something that crossed her mind.

The first shot of her we see in season 2 is her lugging those buckets of water across this massive canyon at Tifan's Well. There are cicadas buzzing, the brush is scrubby and everything (barely) grows in sand. It's hot as balls. And she is out there bringing bucket after bucket home so she can be in this tepid bath, reliving what happened to her and wishing, wishing, wishing she hadn't channeled in that moment. I think Verin is right to point out that this could be seen as an indicator of her strength in many ways, and Moiraine herself would probably appreciate hearing that ("Moiraine didn't know the meaning of the words 'give up'"), but I personally see it as a form of self-harm. She is punishing herself every day for what she believes she "let" happen to her. We also see her lash out at Lan later on, when he tells her that even multiple Aes Sedai couldn't still a person. She completely loses it and yells at him in an attempt to communicate how powerful the Forsaken actually are. I really read that as a manifestation of her anger toward herself. For not realizing how powerful Ishamael could be. For not making the "right" choice in that moment. Again, for "letting" him do what he did to her. We know that stilling is seen as a direct parallel to a violation (an assault) and it is a really common response to relive the situation in that way and blame oneself for something that isn't even close to being the survivor's fault. It makes sense that Moiraine's trauma response would be to blame herself. It also makes it about twenty million times more heartbreaking to watch relevant scenes later on, like when she talks to Rand about what a shield feels like (she is so angry in that scene, and again, I read it not just as anger directed toward Ishamael, but a very profound, overwhelming anger toward herself), or when she seems ashamed to let Rand look at her with the One Power at Lan's request. She can't even look at Rand (or Lan, for that matter) in that moment. She casts her eyes down. She doesn't want anyone to see her in that state, and it speaks to the enormous weight of the humiliation and shame that she's been carrying all season long.

Basically, I just want someone to cradle her tightly in their arms and just tell her over and over that it wasn't her fault. That what happened to her was Ishamael's choice and his alone. That it was his cruelty, and not anything she did or didn't do, that resulted in her condition.

I think it also probably plays a role that Vince and Kauri are a bit too similar for comfort, right? Vince is like a reflection of who Kauri really is, all the trauma and escapism and drug abuse — he is just much worse at hiding it both from others and from himself. It probably doesn’t sit right with Kauri just how much of Vince he sees in himself.

Peel away the self-delusion, and Kauri’s life is just as bleak as Vince’s. Even after Kauri’s escape, Vince is still a living reminder of everything Kauri is trying to run away from. No matter how hard he tries, Kauri is still Vincent Shield. He must hate that.

Vince looks up from the papers spread across the table as the door opens and closes. Nat waves one hand. "Don't worry about it, it's Kauri."

"How can you tell?"

"I know what it sounds like when he comes in." She doesn't elaborate and doesn't look up, either. She highlights, bright yellow line across a series of bolded black numbers. "This is the grant we get that helps cover the cost of food. With the recession, they're cutting the amount we receive by about a third."

"Uh-huh." Vince looks towards the doorway, watching, endlessly curious about the strange hostile clone of himself that sometimes sleeps here, more often elsewhere. "I'll cover it. The check can come through Dynastic Blood Technologies, they donate annually to you anyway."

"Vince, are any of your shell companies real?" Nat has a smile in her voice, leaning her cheek against her hand as she makes a note in pen.

"All of them are. Legally speaking. But Dynastic actually is a real research company. Trying to cure hemophilia, I think. I don't remember. I just went in on it as a co-founder, I don't remember much about the day to day. Yulia does all the detail stuff."

"Hm. So-... Okay, moving on to this-"

Vince flinches when Kauri pops into the doorframe from sheer surprise. Those blue eyes skip him entirely, refusing to land, and he doesn't blame him - direct focus tends to make Kauri black out and wake up with one hell of a headache. Or so he says. Vince has only seen it happen once.

"Hey, Nat."

"Hi, Kauri. You staying the night this time?"

"Nah. Just in dire need of a shower and some food that didn't come from McDonald's. Is Jake home?"

"Nope. Class."

"Damn. It's not Tuesday?"

"Wednesday."

Vince blinks. "You don't know what day it is?"

Kauri still won't look at him, but the smile drops off his face. "Can't read, asshole. Counts for calendars, too. Sometimes I lose fucking track of the date. They wiped all that smart shit away."

"Right. Sorry."

"Apology appreciated but maybe just fuck off next time you want to ask stupid questions. That's why I'm here, remember?"

"Kauri, be nice," Nat warns. "To Vince and to yourself." She looks up now, and Vince looks at her while fiddling with the travel mug in his hands. He undoes the lid and snaps it back. Finally takes a sip. The burn down his throat feels good.

Kauri snorts. "Whatever. What about Chris, is he around?"

"He is, but... He's having a hard day. Nightmares and then I did something wrong at breakfast, not sure what, he didn't seem to be able to explain it. But he's a little shaky."

"Oh. Should I... leave him alone, or..."

"No, honey. Go on up there, he'll be thrilled to see you. Just don't turn the light on. I think he's in Jake's room."

"Cool. How long is Sexiest Man of the Year going to be here?"

Vince groans, taking another drink. "Don't talk about that. Someone on my management team off paid People Magazine, I swear."

"Probably."

Vince feels his face warm and stares down at the paperwork on the kitchen table. "... Kauri, listen-"

"Nope."

"Vince and I are finishing up," Nat interjects smoothly. "He should be out of here in an hour or so, and we'll go out to lunch."

"Great. Hey, Vince, I wanted to ask you something."

Vince looks up, and Kauri is looking off to the side, his profile what Vince sees. Nearly identical to his own, years ago, at this age. Just with longer hair and paler skin. "What?"

"Is drinking yourself to death helping?"

He blinks and looks down at his travel mug, then back up. "This is coffee."

"Hm, not all of it though, huh? So is it helping? The liquor? Make you feel better, help you sleep at night?"

Some vicious hurt creature inside Vince lashes out, and before he can stop himself he hears his own voice asking, "Not really. Does fucking everyone who looks at you help you?"

Nat opens her mouth to protest or stop them, but before she can, Kauri laughs. The brittle bright laughter rings through the room, and he turns away, headed for the stairs.

"Can't hurt me by calling me what I already know I am, movie star," He says, carelessly, tossed over his shoulder as he takes the steps two at a time. "Hurts way worse to remember what I'm not."

Vince stares after him, then takes another swig from the travel mug. Whiskey and coffee, the blend of burn and bitterness.

"... Why is he better at that than me?" He mutters.

Nat looks over at him, then back towards the entryway, listening to the creak of Kauri walking across the old wooden hall above their heads. "He practices," She says, voice low. "All the time."

Somewhat of a LONG rant/discussion ahead, just a warning. Ignore it if you would like.

This is regarding the Daisy/Fitz storyline in S5 (yes, we all know which one)

I’m basically going to discuss (and rant, ig) about how I think that, despite what a large portion of the fandom apparently thinks, Daisy’s pain and anger in S5 is valid. :,)

If you’re going to read this at all, please read to the end, I have so much to say and don’t want it to seem that I am in any way attacking Fitz either (I love and feel for him so very much too), this post just focuses more on Daisy’s experience.

The ONLY people I am blatantly attacking here are the writers for even writing this in the first place (shame on y’all).

Okay…

Daisy was tortured. She was strapped down by (doctor)Fitz against her will, drugged and tortured. He cut into her neck with a knife, tore the inhibitor out, which could have literally paralysed her (as Jemma mentioned at one point, which Fitz also knew), all whilst she was screaming in pain and begging for help.

(Also while two of her friends watched. >:) I love Deke and Jemma, and I totally get Jemma’s decision to try and talk Fitz down, but come on. Do better, WRITERS. Early seasons Jemma would’ve never allowed that.)

Not to mention, Daisy was horrified that when said device was removed, she was going to lose control and end up destroying the world, which many people in the future were constantly blaming/hating her for. She had seen it, she was CONVINCED that if the inhibitor was removed, THAT WOULD HAPPEN.

She wasn’t even begging for HERSELF on that table, she was begging him to stop so that she wouldn’t take billions of innocent lives.

And afterwards, Fitz admitted that he didn’t regret doing it. That he didn’t regret hurting her to do that. Imagine how that must’ve felt to Daisy.

And some people are saying that she’s ableist and out of line for holding him accountable and locking him up?

I’m so sorry, but what did you think she was gonna do? “Awe, that’s alright buddy, I understand :)” No, and no one should expect her to be totally fine with it, nor immediately forgive him.

She went through TRAUMA at the hands of one of her closest friends, someone she considered FAMILY. Her anger with him after that is justified.

Please hypothetically put yourself in her shoes for a moment. :,)

Her locking him up was also justified in my opinion, as how did she know it wouldn’t happen again? And that he wouldn’t accidentally hurt someone else? Under her watch whilst Coulson was away? After all, he was the one to reprogram the robot soldier that shot Mack- all so that he’d be out of the picture so that (doctor)Fitz could single out Daisy with no one being in the way. Same reason he knocked Deke out and waited until many members of the team were off-base.

This makes him potentially highly dangerous, whether he is in his right mind or not.

Daisy was put in charge by Coulson at the time and she had, not only herself, but the rest of the team to worry about, all whilst trying to navigate and deal with their foes, which also meant her going off base.

With the resources they had at the time (which wasn’t like… anything), locking him up was all she could do in that moment.

It was the safest option, as that way, he wouldn’t be able to involuntarily hurt himself or any others.

Yes, Fitz had a psychotic/schizophrenic break. No, that’s ABSOLUTELY not his fault and was just as painful for him to experience. But regardless of that, he had to be held responsible for his actions, especially when it resulted in him traumatising one of his closest friends/family.

Whether it was actually HIM or not does not take away Daisy’s pain, it doesn’t take away her trauma, she’s just as hurt regardless.

He still had to be held accountable.

Daisy holding him accountable for what he did is not ableist, nor do I think she’s a ‘girlboss’ or anything of the such for it (as I’ve seen other, more intense Daisy fans say… THAT’S not cool). I just think that she was defending herself.

The pain Daisy went through was still very, VERY real, and she had a right to hate him for what he did, especially with it still being so fresh.

BUT finally, I would also like to point out the very NOT cool thing that Daisy did/said even before this whole debacle, which was calling Fitz “Leopold” and “HYDRA”. THAT is not okay and I do not support her actions there. I could extend my thoughts on why, but it should be obvious. In my books, that is a step too far on her part, as what happened in the Framework was completely out of his control.

Her pain is real, and her anger is valid, but that was a step too far.

ULTIMATELY, in conclusion, I blame the writers for their decision to do this, to write this storyline in the first place, because they ruined the heart of Fitz and Daisy’s friendship by doing so, and that hurts SO bad. Not to mention, both characters did/said things so out of character and that was… UGH. It makes me so angry.

Neither of them deserved this.

Neither of them deserved the pain and trauma that came from it, and both characters deserved so very much better because BOTH suffered for it.

S5 really was CRUEL on my little agent family. ;-;

I know this opinion can be considered controversial, but I want to once again express that I sympathise with BOTH characters here, I’m just focusing this post more on Daisy because most others do not, and regularly attack anyone who even breathes in her defence during S5. I see Fitz’s side too, and I feel SO much for him as well (+ if I did go into how traumatic it also is for Fitz, this would probably be twice as long as it already is. Just know that I do see that too, I’m not blind).

Of course I feel just as much for him, I’m just tired of people always going at Daisy for not immediately forgiving him after such a traumatic experience, not only for Fitz but HER too. I’m tired of this debate within the fandom but I just wanted to express a part of my (overly extensive) view on it and be done with it because I needed to get it off my chest as someone who sympathises with BOTH characters in S5.

I have more points that could be made for both ‘sides’ (even tho there shouldn’t even be ‘sides’, both went through trauma, there should not be a debate on that) but this is already WAY too long so I kept it “short” (or shortER at least).

I’m very passionate about this subject and sick of the arguments (as both a Daisy and Fitz defender) so thank you for coming to my stupidly long rant (and I hope you all don’t hate me after this lmao)
