I just love how broadchurch (unintentionally) made an autistic-coded detective, but instead of going the sherlock route they made him just. a guy. he’s not special in any way, he’s not a savant, he’s just kinda There and Traumatized About It the entire time.

like alec hardy wants one thing in life and it’s to do his job, but he’s also constantly faced with the unfortunate reality that his job Sucks. he’s also actively dying half the time. and that’s it that’s his character.

also he’s not a twink like most autistic coded savants in media, and I may not be a middle aged dad but that’s the kind of representation I can get behind

so listen. we all know that if they ever made a tlt show it would be bad pretty much no matter what. so my pitch is let’s just give the project to steven moffat and see what he does with it. by the time he’s done we’ll have a show called “john” all about how tragically and manlily sad jod is and how you know what maybe imperialism is ok sometimes. tamsyn gets buckets of cash, some white guys get acting roles that they’ll regret the rest of their career, and i get a new hbomberguy video essay to rewatch every six months or so. someone call the fucking bbc ive solved this.

Post Reichenbach - Memorial Service

After Holmes' death, there certainly was a memorial service.

All the distinguished people of London were there—Scotland Yard, Mrs. Hudson, the Irregulars... and the Watsons.

Can you imagine Watson sitting there, next to Mary, with all eyes on him? Did he cry? Did he try to keep it together, afraid to show his true feelings in public?

He wasn’t just mourning his friend, his former roommate, and associate.

He was mourning the love of his life, for heaven’s sake! And nobody knew! Well, except Mary, I suppose—but still.

I can’t even begin to imagine how he must have felt. Did he even go? Because, honestly, I wouldn’t be able to stomach it.

Everyone putting on sad faces, talking about Holmes' great accomplishments, his impact on society, his generosity...

But Watson? Watson thought about all the other things.

His smile, his hands, the glitter in his eyes when he felt the thrill of a new case, how the light reflected on the violin when he played by the fire in the evenings, his small acts of love that no one noticed—except Watson.

Because Watson knew him like nobody else. Because Watson would have given his life for this man, who apparently gave his life for him.

It breaks my heart to think about it...

Toastystats: TV fandom fix-its on AO3 - Sherlock

Following the previous cross-fandom look at TV fix-its, I'm doing fandom deep dives -- and we've finally reached the much requested Sherlock chapter! (See also: Supernatural, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones)

This one took me longer than most in part because I'm the most familiar with this fandom, and so I dove deep -- and I looked at every episode instead of just the series finales. you can’t knowingly fuck a criminal and then turn around and get mad at them for doing something unethical, dubiously moral or illegal that directly involves you. what about this man made you think he follows the laws, is ethical or even moral? you knew damn well that he killed people for a living. how are you going to date someone whose probably on the FBI’s most wanted list (top 10) and then turn around and be surprised that he invaded your privacy? make it make sense. you can be mad at him all you want but shawty the man has proven time and time again who he is as a person. if this mother fucker is out here willingly killing bitches and has probably broken the geneva convention on multiple occasions what makes you think you’ll be exempt 😭? don’t be shy share with the class?

✨The Sherlock Holmes Museum✨

221B Baker Street, London

hi turtles! here it comes: the photo post to the sherlock holmes museum. i'll include my favorite pictures & the information i could actually keep in my silly brain (probably none). i'll number the pictures, so you can keep track.

please keep in mind that the place was pretty crowded and i couldn't take pictures of everything in perfect quality/from the perfect perspective.

the entrance (1) looks like this:

i especially loved the little blue sign (2) above and the "policeman" (3) dressed in a victorian policeman outfit - with a sherlock holmes tie 🥹 (i didn't get a picture of that, i thought it'd be weird to take a picture of him)

the living room (4).

there were two comfy looking armchairs, a fireplace (sadly without billy the skull 😔), and in the right corner you see the chemistry set of Holmes. with the violin right next to it.

in general, they tried to create the rooms exactly how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle described them in his books. it was described as small but with two big windows to the west side (was it west?? i can't remember...).

on the left you can see the desk (5), which i think was used by both: Holmes and Watson (not 100% sure about that tho). on the right you see what was hung up on the walls (6) (the guns lol).

on the opposite wall of the fireplace, you see the shooting marks (7), made by Holmes: the intials "VR" stand for "Victoria Regina" (= Queen Victoria) (Holmes' way to say "long live the queen" i guess? this man was fun when bored...)

and i took a picture of the "The Times" page (8) which laid on the desk because... apparently! i was in the musuem on the day Holmes and Watson moved in together (*johnlock heart explodes a little bit*) and you can see the date somewhere on there... (i found it. but i think she lied to us... imo it says july the 5th and i was there on august the 27th (*dramatic voice* UNbelievable! *excessive eye-roll*) (okay maybe i misunderstood her??? idk))

let's move on to Sherlock Holmes' bedroom.

on the bed were laying two boxes (9). one was with... idk random Holmes-stuff (honestly can't remember what she said to that...) and the second was with the iconic deerstalker inside. funfact about the deerstalker: ACD never mentioned this to be a signature feature of our beloved detective. this only became a thing later on. some dude, whose name i can't remember (i warned you about my silly brain), just decided he'll use that in a film production, because it would be much more accessible for the common folk. deerstalkers were mainly used by hunters and the working class. because Sherlock Holmes, who lived in a rather wealthy neighborhood, was a man of the upper class, he would have worn a different kind of hat (10).

Hmmmm, I think I've cracked the code, and that is that Mihawk is afflicted by the same boredom Sherlock Homles is. He's operating on the same lounge-ostentatiously-and-frequently-bitchily-until-something-of-interest-lands-in-my-lap system except instead of shooting up so many mils of purified blow when he's going through a dry spot, his ass goes off and joins the world government, fucks a yonko on the low-down and adopts children on a whim. I'd say he also actually does blow but he'd find the idea of using a rolled up bill revolting. Where was I going with this? He and Sherlock share many similarities, something I will discuss later, but the key difference is that Mihawk is also frequently the Watson to the Sherlock Shanks and the WG can be at times. Soooooo.
