One headcanon for each OM! Cast
Lucifer
Sometimes absentmindedly hums along with the cursed record as it plays. MC caught him on the act and he swore them to secrecy.
Mammon
Owned a goldfish like Levi. He named it "nugget". But he only got to raise it for one day because his crows thought it was food and ate it.
Leviathan
Once listened to vocaloid songs and has already fallen down the rabbit hole. His favourite is Miku. Classic.
Satan
He's a hardcore fan of Sherlock Holmes, has finished all the novels, TV series and everything. He sometimes calls MC his Watson.
Asmodeus
Hates washing dishes with a passion because it always ruins his newly-painted nails. He always tries to persuade one of his brothers to switch with him.
Beelzebub
He never had the torture pleasure of watching mukbang eating videos because it triggered his tantrums once and blew up half of the HOL.
Belphie
He can't fall asleep comfortably if he's not hugging something, be it a pillow or MC. And he always drapes his leg over whoever he's sleeping with.
Diavolo
Thinks 5-minutes crafts videos are legit and he always tries to follow their ideas. Barbatos is so tired of it. Please save him.
Barbatos
Accidentally destroyed half of the castle trying to chase a rat down. He repaired everything in just a day because it's Barbatos.
Solomon
Tried to work in a hospital but instead got charged with food poisoning and attempted murder, the news spread worldwide and he was banned from every hospital in the human world.
Simeon
Uses Pinterest whenever he feels uninspired or feels stuck in the middle of writing a book. It was easier to use than other platforms for him because there were only pictures.
Luke
Watched My Little Pony and thought it was a good show. Only Simeon knows of this because he was too embarrassed to talk about it to others. His favourite is fluttershy.
Raphael
Got a wild idea to add pickles to the ice cream at 3am and it has become his new favourite food ever since. Even better when Solomon makes it for him.
Thirteen
Always makes sure to has some traps laying somewhere whenever she and MC are hanging out because someone Mammon always tries to interrupt their date.
Mephistopheles
He used to be a theatre kid and he is still one. Secretly. He thinks he's being slick but he's not. Literally everyone knows.
MC
They once tried to drink motor oil thinking it was beer. The situation shortened the brother's lifespan by a hundred years.

Some WLW (?) Jdrama & Kdrama recommendations!
Tumblr media
Jdramas and Kdramas have a (not-entirely-unearned) reputation for being very straight, but here are a few which are either canonically F/F or which prominently feature a female-female pair-- please enjoy! For those who enjoy following series in real time, Chaser Game W and She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat S2 are both airing this January 2024 :)
As with my post on anime with yuri subtext, since subtext is so subjective, this list only includes series which I’ve actually watched, and so is by no means intended to be comprehensive. Also, it doesn't include any webseries, since those probably deserve a post of their own.
At-a-glance list:
Miss Sherlock (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Night Light (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext)
Tokusatsu Gagaga (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext)
Painter of the Wind (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?)
She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon)
Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta (5 episodes, 1992) (canon)
Chaser Game W (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon)
Doctor X (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext)
Bonus: SKY Castle (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext)
Summaries under the cut!
1. Miss Sherlock / ミス・シャーロック (8 episodes, 2018) (subtext) – MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
The elevator pitch for this show is simple: it’s Sherlock Holmes, but where Holmes and Watson – here named “Sherlock” and Tachibana Wato, and played by Takeuchi Yuko and Kanjiya Shihori, respectively – are both female, and the cases are all set in modern Tokyo. As with other adaptations, mystery-solving and the budding relationship between the two leads takes centre stage, but Miss Sherlock manages to carve out an identity all its own.
There’s a calm beauty to its visuals, which favour sunlight and urban greenery, and the show’s focus on former doctor Wato as she tries out new jobs and goes to therapy means that there’s a surprisingly high number of slice-of-life scenes. It’s also subtly more female-focused than the source material; Sherlock’s gossipy but good-natured landlady Ms. Hatano (Ito Ran) is as much a member of the household as Sherlock and Wato, and the cases often revolve around female characters. But more than anything, it’s just really fun to watch Sherlock and Wato’s relationship bloom as they snip and snipe and are utterly unable to stay out of each other’s space (literally – the body language and blocking is *chef’s kiss*). Their relationship is the heart of the show – watch this one until the end, you won’t regret it!
(CW: psychological abuse, manipulation, and genre-typical murder, violence, and gore)
2. Night Light / 불야성 (20 episodes, 2016) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: spoilers for the mid-season twist, but it’s impossible to allude to a good portion of the F/F subtext without doing so, and I think knowing the twist ahead of time doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.)
Night Light is a rather odd show. It’s simple enough on the face of it, a story about  successful but ruthless CEO Seo Yi-kyung (an icy Lee Yo-won) who tries to mold the younger Lee Se-jin (a puppy-eyed Uee) in her own ambitious image, only for her protege to develop the conscience she never had and move to stop her dastardly plans… but upon watching it’s a totally different creature,  thanks to the alchemic reactions of some delightfully contradictory acting choices (Uee’s performance convinces viewers less of Se-jin’s supposed latent desire for power and money, and more of a deep love and devotion for the CEO) and the unintentionally (?) inneundo-laden script (“If I like something once, I never forget it– whether it’s a dress… or a person,” declares the CEO less than ten minutes into the first episode while gazing intently at Se-jin).
Honestly, it’s a wonder this series ever got made, but you certainly won’t see me complaining! The first part is full of boss/subordinate goodness; Se-jin is unable to resist the CEO’s magnetic pull despite her hot-and-cold behaviour, while the CEO cannot bring herself to push Se-jin away completely. And then, when Se-jin makes her mind up to stop the CEO, it morphs into a corporate take on a (subtextual) lovers-on-opposite-sides situation, where it is precisely Se-jin’s feelings for the CEO that motivate her to stop her. In short, it’s a workplace GL fan’s dream.
Note: If you do watch it, skip the corporate politicking cutscenes with the old men, you’ll thank me later. Also, there’s a prominent male character who is the CEO’s ex and who works closely with Se-jin in the second half, but don’t worry, all the M/F romance is in the past (and doesn’t get much screentime)– he and Se-jin aren’t interested in each other at all.
3. Tokusatsu Gagaga / トクサツガガガ (7 episodes, 2019) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Nakamura Kano (Koshiba Fuka) lives and breathes tokusatsu shows (think Power Rangers, if you’re not familiar), but keeps it a secret from her work colleagues to avoid being shunned or laughed at. And yet she yearns for connection, so when she sees a woman on the subway bearing a keychain from her favourite show (Yoshida Hisami, played by Kurashina Kana), she is determined to find her again.
Although ostensibly about being a tokusatsu fan as an adult, this show is rife with queer subtext, and not in the usual way. It deals with the difficulties of staying in the closet (regarding being an adult tokusatsu fan), the desire to connect with other queer people adult tokusatsu fans and how one might do so through hints and signals, parental disapproval arising from gendered and social expectations (that tokusatsu shows are for boys, and magical girl shows for girls), intersectionality and finding comradeship with other minorities people who are excluded due to their interests, and even generational gaps wherein younger queers fans may underestimate the obstacles that still exist. Although all that might sound a bit stressful, it isn’t actually! Difficult incidents are handled with sympathy and a dash of wry humour, and the show never loses sight of the fact that it – above all else – is a story about finding queer community in the face of a heteronormative hostile world, told with warmth and the nuance of lived experience.
4. Painter of the Wind / 바람의 화원 (20 episodes, 2008) (canon?) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Adapting the novel of the same name by Lee Jung-myung, Painter of the Wind takes as its protagonist a gender-bent version of real-life Joseon-era painter Shin Yun-bok (Moon Geun-young), whose paintings are used to weave a tale of artistry, political intrigue, and romance, and more than anything else to offer modern-day viewers a glimpse of everyday life in 18th-century Korea.
While it may sound like Dickinson’s boring cousin, apart from having a common preoccupation with reframing historical works, another similarity the two shows share is that Painter of the Wind is also very gay. Starting from the first episode, Yun-bok meets and becomes fascinated by the courtesan Jung-hyang (Moon Chae-won), who despite her initial aloofness is drawn to Yun-bok’s intellect and sensitive demeanour. It’s a real meeting of the minds, their witty repartee in early episodes reminiscent of Twelfth Night’s Viola and Olivia, and their relationship isn’t siloed off from the main plot either: Yun-bok’s infatuation quickly starts causing issues with her academic career, and the two eventually have to contend with Jung-hyang’s precarious position as a courtesan as well.
Unfortunately, all this is undermined in the back half of the show, which tries to gaslight viewers into thinking that Yun-bok’s feelings for Jung-hyang were purely platonic all along and that she totally has romantic feelings for her much older male mentor— but hey, at least it’s an open ending. Despite everything, though, I can’t think of another serious historical TV show which features such a prominent F/F narrative for its main character, even nearly two decades later. (Let me know if you have any others! And no, Gentleman Jack doesn’t count, it’s not exactly traditional in style!)
(CW: period-typical sexism)
5. She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat / 作りたい女と食べたい女 (10 15-minute episodes and counting, 2022~) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Based on Yuzaki Sakaomi’s manga of the same name, this simple but sweet show follows home-cooking extraordinaire Nomoto Yuki (Higa Manami), who yearns to cook large-scale dishes but doesn’t eat enough to justify making them. Luckily for her, her neighbour Kasuga Totoko (Nishino Emi) has a massive appetite!
It’s always lovely to see more grounded stories about working women, especially when they’re as cute as this one. Though it touches upon some slightly more serious issues, such as with regard to gendered expectations surrounding food and cooking, it’s primarily a feel-good slice-of-life show about two women getting to know each other by cooking and eating delicious food together.
Side note: if you’ve started it and think the show doesn’t look cosy enough, stick it out for a few more episodes, the production values improve after the first part! Also, the series was renewed for a second season with double the episode count (for a total of 20 episodes) which will start airing on January 29th this year, so this is the perfect time to jump in!
6. Sono Toki, Heart wa Nusumareta / その時、ハートは盗まれた (5 episodes, 1992) (canon) - MyDramaList
Tumblr media
Sono Heart, as it’s nicknamed, starts off as a typical heteronormative high school romance: bumbling protagonist Shiina Hiroko (Isshiki Sae) is desperate to get closer to her crush Katase Masato (Kimura Takuya), star of the school basketball team and all-round nice dude. However, a spanner in the works comes slouching along in the form of female classmate Aso Saki (Uchida Yuki, in her debut role), a mischievous, short-haired personification of trouble who Katase turns out to have feelings for. One day, Hiroko gets into a fight with Saki, and they end up having to stay together after school as punishment. But that afternoon gives them the opportunity to bond over a heart-to-heart conversation, and things seem to improve… until, just before leaving, Saki kisses Hiroko. And then everything changes.
Or rather, everything changes eventually. What’s great about this show is that it doesn’t take shortcuts: Hiroko doesn’t instantly fall in love with Saki. Instead, what you get is a surprisingly layered portrait of a high school girl whose coming to terms with queerness is merely a natural extension of reckoning with her burgeoning sexuality. And, because Saki is self-destructive in her depression and makes a game of belittling, worrying, and infuriating anyone who cares about her, it’s really a story about what it means to love another person rather than a romantic ideal. A word of warning, though: Katase is actually quite a large character, as he and Hiroko end up becoming friends. Also, the ending is very abrupt and inconclusive, though rest assured that it doesn’t try to roll back Hiroko’s feelings, or pair either girl off with a guy.
(CW: self-harm, attempted suicide, bullying, homophobia, underage drinking)
7. Chaser Game W: Power Harassment Boss Is My Ex-Girlfriend / チェイサーゲームW: パワハラ上司は私の元カノ (10? 30-minute episodes, 2024) (canon) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
Probably jumping the gun here as only two episodes have aired as of writing, but I feel honour-bound to recommend this as it’d probably appeal to a lot of people, if only they knew about it! Chaser Game W is a standalone spin-off of Chaser Game, itself an adaptation of a manga of the same name by Matsuyama Hiroshi and Matsushima Yukitarou, but you don’t need to know anything going in.
Protagonist Harumoto Itsuki (former Keyakizaka46 captain Sugai Yuuka) has been assigned a new job: her company has been asked by a Chinese conglomerate to develop a game adaptation of a GL manhua, and she’s been tapped as the project leader. However, what appears to be an exciting prospect soon becomes a terrifying one, as the person sent by the client to supervise turns out to be her ex-girlfriend from university (Lin Dongyu, played by Japanese actress Nakamura Yurika), who is now married to a Chinese man (played by a Japanese actor) and has a child, but remains hell-bent on exacting revenge on Itsuki for their bad breakup. This is a romantic (melo)drama rather than a psychological thriller, though, so you won’t be watching Itsuki getting terrorised the entire time. While she is understandably upset by her ex’s current behaviour, Itsuki can’t forget about their happy days together, and Dongyu herself veers between being a sneering bully and craving Itsuki’s affection.
Do note that the show isn’t without its flaws: it’s very Japanese about the Chinese thing, which is to say it’s filled with comments which range from somewhat offensive to borderline racist, and the script will probably give you a headache if you know even the slightest thing about game development. Your mileage might vary on the ex too, as she can be really quite nasty to Itsuki and her teammates. But if you can overlook those issues, this is a rare prize indeed: a TV drama focusing on a canonical F/F pair, who are specifically exes, and in a workplace setting.
(CW: bullying)
8. Doctor X / ドクターX (7 seasons and counting, 2012~) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
To be very honest, I was in two minds about including Doctor X on this list. It is, with a few notable exceptions, misogynistic and reductive in its depictions of women (especially in the first two seasons), gives too much screentime to objectively awful and subjectively annoying men, doesn’t respect the work done by medical personnel apart from surgeons, and on the technical front is formulaic, repetitive, and often lazy in its writing and presentation. Unfortunately, the dynamic between the genius surgeon protagonist Daimon Michiko (Yonekura Ryoko) and her anaesthesiologist wife partner friend Jounouchi Hiromi (Uchida Yuki) is almost unparalleled in its excellence.
The premise of the series is basic indeed: Daimon Michiko is a freelance surgeon with a healthy disrespect of rules and authority and, unluckily for her detractors, a cast-iron guarantee that she will succeed in any surgery, no matter how difficult. She’s initially portrayed as a lone wolf who’s dismissive of the entire hospital system and anyone who’s part of it— but her interest is piqued by the anaesthesiologist Jounouchi, who is skilled beyond her peers and chafes against the idiocy of her colleagues. For all its flaws, the first season – which is more serious and edgy in tone compared to the others, and isn’t an ensemble cast like the post-S3 seasons – is a fantastic depiction of two people being perfectly matched in skill, intellect, and outlook, and how they come together despite one being standoffish (Jounouchi) and the other not being used to reaching out to or even respecting other people (Daimon).
The seasons after that sadly ditch the emphasis on Jounouchi being Daimon’s professional equal, but in exchange offer up another rare and unexpected gift: two women in their late thirties / early forties who are partners both at work and in private. Jounouchi is Daimon’s designated anaesthesiologist, assisting with nearly every surgery, and she spends so much time at Daimon’s agency-office-slash-house you’d think she’d moved in. Also, after a point they just start being wonderfully dorky and comfortable with each other, while still being consummate professionals in the operating theatre. Although the show is very much focused on Daimon Michiko as its sole protagonist, Jounouchi is undoubtedly the character most significant to her – even more than Daimon’s father figure, the head of the freelance agency – and this is highlighted in the story from time to time. They are very, very good. I just wish the series was better.
Note: If you’re curious, I would recommend watching the very first episode in full– by the end you should know if you’re invested enough to continue, otherwise drop it and live in the happy knowledge that you dodged a bullet. If you aren’t so lucky, I’d advise skipping the surgery segments when they start to bore, and in general to skip liberally. Also, season 4 is not worth watching as a whole, except for the last two episodes, which absolutely should not be missed. Sigh. I can’t speak to seasons 6 and 7, due to having paused mid-S6.
Side note: If you’ve watched Doctor X already and liked it (or at least like Daimon and Jounouchi), but haven’t tried Miss Sherlock yet, definitely give that a go because there seems to be a big overlap in the fandoms. Maybe it’s because they both feature a genius protagonist, have the two largest female characters being work partners, and domestic vibes…?
(CW: sexism, genre-typical gore)
Bonus: SKY Castle / SKY 캐슬 (20 episodes, 2018) (subtext) - MyDramaList | AsianWiki
Tumblr media
(Note: slight spoilers for the early episodes, but it’s necessary in order to give a more accurate recommendation regarding the F/F subtext, especially as the show is not primarily focused on any one relationship.)
This one’s a bonus because unlike the others on this list, there’s no close relationship between two female characters which could be interpreted in a romantic light. That’s not too surprising as the show is all about the women of a several super-wealthy families trying to get their children into the top Korean universities (equivalent to the Ivy League) whilst supporting their husbands in the rat race: a decidedly heteronormative premise, albeit one that’s executed in an award-winning manner.
So why am I listing it? Well, it’s because somehow, in this series about heteronormative and highly gendered nuclear families, it features possibly the most erotically-charged dynamic I have seen, even taking season 1 of Killing Eve into account. (Though it takes some time to get there, so if you try it out, please watch at least the first four episodes before making a decision!)
That honour goes to the problematic gem that is the relationship between the main character Han Seo-jin (Yum Jung-ah), who is willing to do whatever it takes to get her daughter into Seoul’s top medical school, and star tutor Kim Joo-young (Kim Seo-hyung), who is known for her 100% success rate. It starts off with a mild push-and-pull, when Han Seo-jin wants Coach Kim to take on her daughter, but is wary of the shady rumours surrounding her; the tutor stands firm, and Han eventually has to swallow her pride and accept the risks. Where it really comes into its own, though, is when Coach Kim starts to pose a legitimate threat to everything Han cares for: her daughter, her marriage (or rather, what her husband can give her), her position in the world. It becomes increasingly clear that Han should just walk away, and indeed she tries to do so many a time, only to bend in the end because the coach is key to fulfilling her dearest wish– and so to Han, for all she rages and resents and fears, Coach Kim is nothing less than temptation itself. This is the beating core of the show, and even as the plotting disintegrates and falls into melodrama in the second half, their scenes together still crackle with delicious tension every time. Watch it.
(CW: suicide, psychological abuse, child abuse, bullying, murder)

Jeremy Brett Vs. Colin Firth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Jeremy Brett - (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Three Musketeers, BBC Play of the Month) - "Listen, I fell in love with One Man when I was 16 and have never regretted it. Jeremy Brett is Everything. Handsome, charming, sweet, amazing voice, delightfully eccentric. Shakespearean actor best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the 80s, he is widely considered the definitive Holmes and for good reason. Bisexual and bipolar, devoted husband, he was known to serenade friends at restraunts and hold scavenger hunts in his home, where he hid the plunger in a chandelier. Often pigeonholed into period pieces, he owned them. He was a pretty young man who became not just handsome but arresting. He was one of those people who walked into a room and instantly commanded attention, and I for one have never regretted giving him my attention." Full text propaganda included below the cut

Jeremy Brett:

“The superbly handsome Jeremy Brett, the regularity of his features made dramatic by a broken nose, the mellifluousness of his voice made arresting by a slight vocal impediment, presented a ravaged and romantic Holmes, a man who had suffered deeply and whose recourse to the syringe was the compulsion of a self-destroying temperament. His relationship with Edward Hardwicke’s transparently decent Watson was that of a drowning man clinging to a raft. The authenticity of the performance was unmistakable.” — “The man who created a monster; Conan Doyle hated the fame of his suave hero, but he couldn’t kill him”, Simon Callow, The Times, 18 December 2009.

Obey Me! Random Headcanon #5
The brothers' kissing styles ig:
Lucifer
This man makes up for his reluctance to kiss you in public by doubling up in private. Kisses you frequently all over the place, and I do mean all over the place.
His favorite place tends to be your neck, which he also has a habit of biting despite his preferences for privacy.
"If someone sees the marks I left on you... Well, you know what'll happen tonight, don't you?"
Mammon
Naturally, The Great Mammon likes showing off that you're his partner, but he's usually too embarrassed to do anything more than a quick peck on the lips. That said, stressful situations (like you being in danger) make him less shy.
His favorite place is the tip of your nose, which he also likes to boop.
"Boooop. Boop. Hehe, are ya annoyed? No, no, no, wait, please I didn't mean ta make ya mad for real!"
Leviathan
Our poor otaku is the only one usually can't initiate kissing you first unless he's in one of his incredibly jealous and possessive swings. In which case, he'll attack you with kisses.
His favorite place to kiss happens to be your lips because they're just as soft as he always imagined.
"U-U-Uh, hm, yeah I was... Thinking about doing that since... I um... Nevermind! Let's play Super M*rio Bros!"
Satan
In front of anyone else, Satan will kiss your hand because he likes acting like a gentleman. In front of Lucifer, however, Satan has a habit of passionately making out with you like he's trying to prove a point.
His favorite place to kiss is your temple because it reminds him of when you read detective stories with him on his lap.
"So she was the culprit; you were right, MC. You're a veritable Sherlock, and I'm your ignorant Watson."
Asmodeus
The avatar of lust kisses you as a greeting, usually on the cheek because he doesn't want to ruin your lipstick. If he really missed you though, he doesn't care and just fixes your makeup for you later.
His favorite place to kiss also happens to be your cheek since yours are so cute.
"They're so cute, that's how I'll tag the Devilgram photo! Oh, wait, let's take another picture with me in the background so you really shine!"
Beelzebub
Kisses you the most often at mealtimes, usually because sharing food with you is when he's at his happiest.
His favorite place to kiss is usually the corner of your lip since he often gets away with saying you had food there (regardless of its actual presence).
"...okay, I'm sorry for lying; there was no chocolate that time. But it was true that I couldn't help myself, okay?"
Belphegor
This brat kisses you both in your dreams and and when he's asleep, and he kisses whatever part of you happens to be in front of his head. Arm? Yep. Foot? Yep. Collar? Yep.
His favorite place is at the corner of your eyes because he thinks your eyes are like galaxies, though he'll never tell you that and just says he likes the taste of your tears.
"Mmnnn? Don't wake me to ask something so stupid... Your eyes are... mn... hmm... zzz..."

Couple's (questionable) Halloween Costumes ft. Tokyo Debunker pt. 2
I had a good night sleep and thought up some more... this is a joke and pt 1 can be found here.
Romeo- Steampunk couple. Romeo feels like the type of guy who completely misses the point of a Halloween costume and instead wheels out something that belongs at an elaborate ball or convention. He is extremely smug about the quality of his costume and the event he's put together for the Casino, and the quality of his arm candy. You knew what you were getting into: 5/10.
Lyca- Sherlock and Watson. He asked Suba for a normal human Halloween costume and worked very hard to put them together for you. You're the inspector so he wants you to be Sherlock, but he's very proud of his Watson costume too. You have a wonderful time at the Halloween party taking turns being the scary dog staring down the other party goers who want to mess with your date: 100/10.
Subaru- Alice and the White Rabbit. Halloween doesn't seem like Suba's scene if I'm honest, way too many people. But he still desperately wants to dress up with and do cute things with you. He falls a little bit more in love when you notice that he needs to tap out and excuses the two of you by insisting you'll be "late for a very important date." Another one who would love to have a little Halloween themed date at his dorm, he's definitely got tea and snacks already picked out: 8/10 (only because he was stressed out)
Leo- A black cat duh. I'm too out of touch with what's popping on TikTok to know what he'd dress up as, I just know he's making Halloween themed thirst traps and dragging you into it. Probably drags you into wearing some sort of mouse costume so he can act out some sort of weird cringey role play and then act like it was all your idea once he turns the camera off, but you knew what you were getting into. Again: 5/10.
Tohma- The Phantom and Christine. This isn't his first choice for a costume, he'd really rather do something much more simple and gimmicky but he's in Frostheim now so he has to be extra. The Phantom mask lets him keep up the monocle look and keeps him from outshining Jin. You will look wonderful no matter what he tricks you into wearing, but the expense of the fabric still makes him cringe a bit. It is so dangerously tempting to drop the pretense with you... 9/10.
Ren- Ghostface t-shirt and ghost t-shirt. You're lucky he let you drag him to this party and no he has no idea why he's getting such weird looks from the other upperclassmen. He just has this shirt because it's horror related and he thought it would be sort of funny to wear when he saw your ghost one. Spends most of the party stealing the hosts wifi to grind last minute resources in his gacha games and eating candy with you. If you explain the looks to him he will die from embarrassment, 7/10

word count: 3.7k

The sound of clanging cutlery makes your head throb due to the cruel hangover you woke up with. You were currently eating breakfast with the Harrington’s and not to sound rude, but it was the last place you wanted to be right now.
After the events of last night, you couldn’t get even a blink of sleep. It was already bad enough you told Steve that he shouldn’t kiss you because you wouldn’t be able to sleep, but him agreeing made it even worse.
It makes no sense to you.
He must be playing some sort of cruel game, right? He’s probably just stringing you along trying to make you fall for him and when if you do, bam, you’re left heartbroken.
Steve Harrington can suck it. There’s positively no way you’re falling for him.
“You alright?” he whispers to you when he notices you moving the food around your plate instead of eating it. “m’fine” you shrug. “Just don’t have an appetite’’ you explain. “Eat something. We have a long day ahead of us”
“Why do you care?” you snap and his eyes widen. Luckily, his family was too immersed in their  own conversations to pay attention to either of you. “Let’s not do this here, okay? Yell at me when we get back to the house if you want”
“What’s the point? You never listen anyways” you huff.
This morning was a tad awkward between you and Steve. When you tried to talk about it and clear the air, he just grunted and wanted to brush it under the rug like he always does. Safe to say you were frustrated with him.
“Whatever, y/n. Just promise you’ll stop acting like this when we’re at the wedding”
“Only if you promise to stop being such a dick”
“Fine”
“Fine”
Spoiler alert: It wasn’t fine.
When you had gotten back to the house, neither of you spoke a word to each other. You took a much needed nap while Steve left the house. He didn’t tell you where he was going and frankly, you didn’t care to know.
Okay, that’s a bit of a lie. You cared a teeny tiny amount.
These past few days have felt so back and forth. Every time you think you’re making progress to the possibility of being friends, there’s a small hiccup and you’re back to square one. You feel like you’ve gotten a glimpse of Steve that you haven’t gotten in a long time, but then the glimpse is overshadowed by him going back to acting like an ass at the drop of a hat.
Your rumination is interrupted by the sound of the front door closing, alerting you that Steve is back. You go back to doing your makeup until Steve knocks on the bathroom door. “Come in” you answer and he opens the door.
“We’re leaving in an hour” he states “Then why aren’t you ready yet? You were gone for two hours”
“I went to my parents to call Robin” he answers. “We have a phone here” you counter. “Thanks, sherlock, but I didn’t really want you snooping in on my conversation”
“I have no interest in what you have to say considering you have no interest in listening to me” you sigh heavily. “Is this about last night? Can’t you get over that?” You angrily set your mascara down and turn to look at him. “No, it isn’t just about last night. It’s about the entire time I’ve known you, Steve! You are such an asshole to me and I’ve done nothing to you and yes, I wanted to kiss you, but you wanted to kiss me too and it’s driving me fucking mad because you want to act like this whole weekend hasn’t even happened!” you exclaim and hold back a sob. You’d always been so utterly confused about his hatred towards you and this trip has made it even worse. He gives you no explanations, no communication, just avoidance.
“I have to get ready” is all he says before exiting the room and you groan in frustration. All you want, all you need, is for him to talk to you. It’s like trying to get through a brick wall. Impossible and not worth it.
You’d never been more grateful for a weekend to almost be over.
_
The wedding ceremony had been uncomfortable, to say the least. You and Steve were squished together in a church pew, leaving no room for distance between the two of you. It was hard to focus on the beautiful event taking place in front of you when Steve’s thigh was pressed up against yours and he had to put his arm on the back of the bench and you had to lean into him for appearances.
The reception was going better though, partially because of the open bar. You’re currently stood there waiting on your third drink when the bride herself comes up to you. “What did Steve do now?” she asks you. “What do you mean?” you play dumb. “You two have been so lovey dovey this whole weekend and now you haven’t spoken a word to each other tonight. Spill”
“I don’t want to burden you. It’s your wedding night!”
“Consider it a wedding present. Tell me everything!”
That was easier said than done. You couldn’t exactly explain that this entire relationship is fake and Steve has been sending you mixed signals, absolutely doing your head in. “Just a silly fight, I suppose. Nothing serious” you reply. “Alright, I won’t bother you for juicy details, but tonight is all about love and that boy loves you. He’s outside. Go find him, okay?”
Before you go and find him, you make sure to get him a drink to break the ice. As frustrated as you were with him, you weren’t going to sulk at someone's wedding over it.
“Hey” you mutter when you find him alone outside. “Peace offering” you say as you hand him a drink and he accepts, chugging it rather quickly.
“Look, I’m sorry ab-”
“No, I’m sorry.” he interrupts “I was an ass and you didn’t deserve it”
“Thank you, but you’ve been really off all day. Is something else wrong?’’ you question and he sighs “My dad keeps harping on me about my job, my apartment, and basically everything else. Says you’re too good for me. I don’t even deserve my fake girlfriend” he chuckles, humorlessly.
“Steve” you whisper, stepping closer to him and putting your hand on his arm “I know we’ve had our differences, but you should be proud of yourself. You could’ve easily had everything handed to you, but you decided to do everything on your own. I think that’s very brave of you”
“You think I’m brave?” his eyes meet yours and you swear there’s a sparkle in his golden irises. “yeah, i do, but don’t let that get to your head, alright?” you joke and he smiles for the first time today. “too late” he smiles. “So we’re okay now? ya know, until you start acting like a dick again” you joke. “Yeah, we’re okay. until you do something annoying again”
You both chuckle and you can’t deny this moment feels nice. Steve seems different, apart from the few arguments you’ve had over the weekend, it feels like there’s a possibility for an acquaintance. Maybe even friends, but you don’t wanna get ahead of yourself.
“Hey, lovebirds. Get in here, everyone’s lookin for ya” one of the groomsmen says when he finds you and Steve outside. “we’ll be there in a sec” Steve tells him before he disappears.
“ready?” he asks and you nod, both quickly finishing your drinks before facing the crowd inside. Steve takes your hand and leads you back into the reception.
Once you’re back inside, you feel a gentle tug on your dress. When you turn around and look down, you’re met with a friendly, familiar face. “hi, penelope! you look so pretty!” you exclaim and she twirls to show you her dress. “you look like a princess! will you dance with me?” she asks. “I’d be honored!”
“I’m gonna go get us a couple more drinks, okay?” Steve tells you before you’re escorted to the dance floor with your new best friend.
While Steve waits to order at the bar, he watches you and penny absolutely steal the show. You’re holding hands while twirling around the dance floor and laughing. He notices everyone admiring you, much like he is right now.
“She sure is lovely, Steve” his mom says when she approaches him. “she is, isn’t she?” he replies and he means it. You have this way about you that makes everyone swoon over you. At first, he found it annoying, but now he might say he finds it endearing. He’s starting to understand why everyone likes you so much.
As ‘open arms’ by Journey starts to play, he watches your eyes light up and you say ‘I love this song!’. He decides the drinks can wait.
“Care if I steal my girl for a dance, penny?” he asks, fully expecting her to say no. “fine, but only one dance, mister” she points her finger at him and you both laugh. “I’ll hand her off to you in no time. I swear” he promises before she walks back over to her parents.
“So, I hear you like this totally cheesy song. Can’t say I’m surprised” he teases and you playfully roll your eyes. “And you wanna dance with me to this totally cheesy song” you rebuttal. “touche” he chuckles.
Your arms wrap around his neck and his hands fall to your waist, pulling you slightly closer to him. “I believe I was promised a drink”
“Got distracted, plus I don’t need you getting sloppy and stepping on my toes”
“Sloppy?! If anything, my dance moves are even more impeccable when I’m drunk. Did you not see my moves earlier?”
“Oh, I did, unfortunately. You’re really great with Penny, by the way. Must be because you dance the same.” he torments you. “Okay, I’m ignoring that. She’s a great kid, though. Hard to believe you share genes”
“How would we share jeans? She’s a toddler”
“Steve” you deadpan, waiting for him to get that you meant genes, not jeans. “Oh” he nods his head once he understands and you both laugh.
“Do you think that maybe after all of this we could be friends, maybe?” you ask, shyly. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but yeah, maybe” he answers before continuing “you aren’t completely awful and besides us fighting every other hour, I’ve had fun with you.”
“I’ve had fun with you too, but if you tell anyone I said that I’ll deny it” you jokingly respond and he agrees. “I don’t entirely hate being around you” he whispers. “I don’t either”
Steve’s eyes flick down to your lips and linger longer than you expected. “stop looking at my lips!” you quietly exclaim. “I'm not! Your lipstick is smeared!” he defends.“I’m not wearing lipstick, Steve” you clarify and his cheeks turn pink.
“You’re blushing! you were totally looking at my lips!”
“I was not. If I get you a drink will you stop berating me?” he bargains. “Hm, I don’t know. Get me a drink anyways and let's find out.”
Steve keeps his hand on the small on your back the entire time you stand at the bar. You lean your head on his shoulder, claiming that it’s only because you’re sleepy, but deep down you feel the need to be as close to him as possible.
“Wanna go back outside? It’s kinda hot in here” Steve asks once you get your drinks. You nod and follow him, lacing your hands together, mostly for support as you're tired and you feel like your feet might actually fall off from your heels.
You and Steve don’t bother finding any chairs, opting to sit in the grass instead.
“It’s so beautiful out here” you sigh dreamily as you look at the stars in the sky. Steve turns to look at you while you admire the view “yeah. it really is”
A night breeze causes you to shiver, so Steve takes off his blazer and places it over your shoulders. “Thanks, Stevie” you smile at him and he hates how the way your nose scrunches as you smile makes him feel like a damn teenager with the butterflies he gets.
“Can I ask you something?” you ask, looking back at the sky not really wanting to look at him when you ask what’s on your mind. “go for it”
“Why did you hate me? I mean, I hope it’s past tense because you said we can be friends now, but I’m just curious” you nervously pluck grass out of the ground, still avoiding eye contact. “I didn’t hate you” “Steve, that’s a lie and we both know it. Be honest, I can take it”
Seconds pass before he speaks again, letting out a big sigh before doing so. “You’re too perfect”
“What?” you scoff. “You’re just so…unreal. With the way you laugh, the way you’re nice to everybody, and the way you could wear a trash bag and still be unbelievably beautiful. It just makes me so mad because I can never have you” he confessions and you’re stunned, to say the least.
You don’t say anything for a good minute and a half, unable to think of anything to say. Steve wishes he had a time machine so he could go back and say literally anything else. He takes your silence as rejection.
“why can’t you have me?” you whisper “it’s stupid” he grumbles. “tell me. please”
“Robin told me that I wasn’t ready for a girl like you and truth be told, I don’t think I ever will be” he tells you. You scoot closer to him, locking your eyes with his. “you can have me tonight, Steve, while we’re away from home. No robin, no hawkins, just you and me and not a care in the world”
“Can we really do that just for one night?” he wonders, eyes scanning over your face to see if there’s any detection of you just messing around with him. “that depends…do you wanna kiss me?”
“yes”
Neither of you waste any time. His lips hungrily chase yours and you sigh into the kiss as you both lay down on your sides in the grass. Your hand grasps the back of his neck to keep him in place, making sure this moment lasts as long as possible. Warmth spreads throughout your body and you feel like your heart might beat out of your chest.
One of Steve’s hands tangles in your hair while the other rests on your waist. It’s so quiet outside that all you can hear are the sounds of your kiss and you can’t be too sure, but so far you think it’s the best thing you’ve ever heard.
Steve is the first to pull away, but not too far. He rests his forehead on yours and he keeps his eyes closed. “Can we go back to our place?” he asks and you let out an ‘mhm’ before you both stand up, going back inside to quickly say your goodbyes.
_
Steve presses kisses to your forehead, cheeks, and lips every five seconds in the back of the cab and all the way to the front door. He knows he won’t be able to do this once you go back to your lives in Hawkins, so he uses this opportunity as best as he can.
For tonight, you’re his girl and he can kiss you silly if he wants to.
“Stevie, can I sleep in your sweatshirt? it gets cold at night”
“Here. I’ll get out of your hair” he says before leaving the room so you can get changed. His sweatshirt smells like him and you smile as you put it on.
You change in record time so Steve can come back in. You know this is a terrible idea. You shouldn’t want to kiss him this badly, you shouldn’t hope you sleep in his arms tonight, but you do because you don’t know if you’ll ever get the chance to once you’re home.
“I’m done!’’ you shout and Steve returns, also changed into comfy clothes. You both climb into bed after turning off the lights. His arm wraps around your shoulders and pulls you into him so your head lies on his chest.
You’re both utterly exhausted, but don’t go to bed before sharing more giggly kisses. You each dread when the sunrises, meaning your time together is up.
It was nice while it lasted. Even if it was only for a few hours.
_
In the morning, there’s no regrets or arguing, like what both of you expected. Instead, there was a feeling of misery. If Steve knew he could’ve had you for this whole weekend, he wouldn’t have wasted a second.
How is he supposed to act once you’re back in Hawkins? Does he go back to being an asshole or does he stick by his promise of being your friend? Is it even possible for him to be your friend at this point?
You don’t speak much throughout the morning, apart from when you’re at his parents’ to say goodbyes. “I can’t wait to see you again, dear” his mom had told you and you felt an odd feeling in your chest at her words.
Steve loads up all of your things in the car for you and you mutter a ‘thanks’ before getting in the passenger seat.
“Ready?” Steve asks when he gets in the car. “yep. let’s go home” you exhale a deep breath.
You fall asleep almost as soon as you’re on the road and Steve sighs in relief. He doesn’t think he could take the silence.
_
The ride home goes by fairly quickly. You wake once you feel his car come to a halt outside your house.
“I’ll get your bags for you” he offers and you shake your head “no it’s o-”
“y/n, let me get your bags. It’ll be my final job as your fake boyfriend” he jokes and you let out a fake chuckle. Why does the thought of this being over hurt so much?
“Well, guess we’re broken up now, huh? Longest three and a half days of my life” you jest. “Right back at ya. Pleasure doing business with you” he holds his hand out and you shake it like you just got finished with a business meeting. “Until next time”
“Until next time” he repeats your words and heads back to his car.
You watch him drive away through your living room window, hoping he’ll turn around to give you one last kiss, but he doesn’t. It’s probably for the best anyways.
_
It had been two weeks since returning to Hawkins and Steve couldn’t shake the feeling he had. It was the heart wrenching feeling you have when you miss someone, and he didn’t want to miss you, but he did. Severely.
Somehow, his apartment had felt lonelier. His bed felt colder as he grew accustomed to sharing a bed with you for only three nights, despite the gap that was left between you and him the first two nights.
He hasn’t seen you since he dropped you off two weeks ago and there’s nothing else to say except that he misses you.
He misses your laugh, he misses your banter, and he misses the way he felt when he kissed you that Saturday night. Like it was something you should’ve been doing this whole time.
The clock on his bedside table reads 12:48 and he decides he can’t take this anymore. He can’t go through another sleepless night feeling like this.
He throws his blankets off his body and gets dressed, putting on the first thing he could find and running out the front door.
He didn’t care anymore.
He didn’t care about what Robin would say, or that you and Eddie used to be a thing, or that this could end in complete fucking disaster.
All he cared about was what he wanted and that was you.
_
A series of knocks at your door wasn’t what you expected at one in the morning.
Obviously, the first thing that came to mind was a murderer, but when you looked through your peephole, you saw a very frantic Steve.
“Steve? Are you okay?” his eyes were wide, his hair was a mess, and he was clearly jittery.
“No, actually, I’m losing my mind. I mean, you tell me I can have you for one night and you thought that I could go back to normal after that?”
“I’m…sorry?”
“No, listen. I can’t go back to normal. I have wanted you for as long as I’ve known you and then we finally fucking kiss and I have to pretend like it wasn’t the best thing that’s happened to me a really long goddamn time. I want you and I can’t act like I don’t’’
You practically throw yourself at him, quickly crashing your lips together and pulling him inside. you’d been waiting so long for this.
“We can't tell any of our friends about this” kiss. “Agreed” kiss. “I mean this could totally blow up in our faces, there's no reason to tell them, right” you state, pulling away from his lips.“Uh-huh, right. Now shut up and kiss me again”
You stand in your living for at least ten minutes, kissing him like it’s the only thing you’ll ever do again until exhaustion hits you both.
“do you wanna stay tonight? I don’t want you out driving this late”
“I wouldn’t be able to leave anyways”
It feels weird at first to be cuddling Steve. Just a few weeks ago you swore up and down he hated you, and now you’re both curled up in your bed, clinging to each other like your life depends on it. It doesn’t feel wrong, though. It feels natural. Like, you’ve figured everything out. Well, almost everything.
What else did you need to figure out? How the hell you were going to keep this from your friends.

hey ! what are your top five episodes (out of all the seasons) and which are your favorite episodes to rewatch ?
I’m a first time viewer so this list will definitely change but I’ll pick out of those I’ve seen (through mid S4-ish).
This was SO HARD. I love so many episodes so much.
1) Irresistible. It says a lot that I consider myself to be Tumblr’s number one proponent of stop kidnapping Scully and this is my favorite episode. Very few episodes actually allow Mulder and especially Scully to deal with their trauma and this does so so beautifully and in a way that’s deeply true to who Scully is. Her need to be strong, to not be beholden to Mulder even though he’d do anything for her, and of course the amazing beautiful ending that I think about every day.
2) Anasazi. Best finale so far by a mile! I’ve called this a sick fic turned season finale and I stand by that. It’s so trope-y and I love it. It managed to give us lots of alien lore reveals without feeling too plot heavy or relying too much on infodumping. And MY GOD the msr moments in this were phenomenal. Truly the stuff of a fanfic writer’s dreams.
3) Pusher. I love a good Sherlock Holmes cat-and-mouse vibe, and I love a mind control story, so this was really just everything I loved. The tension was so palpable throughout! It definitely felt like the characters were always two steps behind in a chilling way. Plus the climax in the hospital is the show’s best climax (in my opinion). Phenomenal acting from both leads.
4) Colony/Endgame. My favorite mytharc two-parter so far, perfectly merging plot developments with emotional climaxes to keep me invested until the very end. I was guessing and trying to figure it out the whole time (I did not, in fact, figure it out). Everything that happened to Mulder in these episodes was so emotional and carried so much weight for his character. And I LOVE the last 6-ish minutes so much. We do not talk enough about the fact that Scully literally brought Mulder back to life.
5) Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose. Comedy. Tragedy. The best guest star this show has ever seen. Scully plays noir detective. It’s hilarious. The ending will make you cry. What’s not to love?
Honorable mentions (in chronological order): Deep Throat, Ice, Beyond the Sea, The Erlenmeyer Flask, Ascension, One Breath, Quagmire, Wetwired, Paper Hearts, Never Again, Memento Mori
I’m not the point where I rewatch whole episodes yet, but here are some scenes I often revisit.
-Ending of Irresistible
-Memento Mori hallway scene (already-and I just watched the episode for the first time!)
-Literally any time Scully saves Mulder (yes, I have both vent crawling scenes on repeat).
-The pie scene from Jose Chung’s from Outer Space
-The outro from Unruhe (but it makes me cry).
And many more:)

'Andrew Scott has played two of British Television’s most fascinating characters and has become a pop culture staple. The ‘Hot Priest’ of Fleabag gained notoriety for his role as James Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Since then, he has appeared in a number of prominent roles.
The Ripley star is extremely private about his personal life, although he has spoken about his childhood and sexuality. The Irish national is openly gay and has been a vocal advocate of LGBTQIA+ rights. On the occasion of his 48th birthday, here are a few facts about Scott that fans might now know about him.
1. Andrew Scott Began Acting To Get Over A Speech Impediment
Andrew Scott began his career on the stage and went on to appear in independent Irish films. He reportedly began acting as a child, joining the Speech and Drama class. In an interview with BBC’s This Cultural Life, Scott admitted that he initially joined the class to help with a lisp he had. He said,
The reason I started Speech and Drama was more for the speech element. I had a real lisp when I was a kid and I had to go to these elocution lessons… Eventually, that disappeared, as it does for a lot of children, but then I really got into the drama element.
Scott also mentioned that acting really helped him while he was struggling during his teenage years.
2. Andrew Scott Had A Small Role In Saving Private Ryan
Fans have seen Andrew Scott as the disgruntled soldier in 1917, but he apparently played a really small part in one of the best war films of all time. Scott revealed that he was one of the soldiers who got killed at the opening of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, where the American soldiers storm the beaches of Normandy.
Scott mentioned that he even had a line. However, his work with Spielberg did not end there as he went on to appear in the series Band of Brothers, which was produced by him. The Sherlock star mentioned that working on the show and the film made him realize that he was not a ‘fighter’ (via BBC).
3. Andrew Scott Hated The Initial Response To Sherlock
Tumblr users in the early 2010s remember that the decade was dominated by BBC’s Sherlock, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as a contemporary version of Sherlock Holmes. The actor was aptly opposed by Andrew Scott’s James Moriarty, his arch-nemesis. Beginning with the final episode of series one, Scott won the BAFTA for his role.
However, Scott was reportedly saddened by some criticisms that he had received when the episode first aired and even called co-creator Mark Gatiss to apologize. He said to BBC,
Some people thought it was great and were really celebrating it, but some people absolutely hated it. I was devastated by that. And embarrassed. I thought, ‘Oh my god, I’ve completely humiliated myself’… I remember calling Mark Gatiss and saying, ‘I’m really sorry.’ Because of course, all you remember is the negative stuff. He said, ‘Oh god, I meant to say, never go online’.
The actor reportedly went on to have a healthier attitude towards criticism.
4. The 1917 Star First Commented On His Sexuality In 2013
Andrew Scott has been vocal about his sexuality and has come out as gay. He has since spoken about LGBTQIA+ rights and what representation in the media does to people who are going through similar struggles. Though he is extremely private, he first spoke about his sexuality in an interview with The Independent. He said,
Mercifully, these days people don’t see being gay as a character flaw. But nor is it a virtue, like kindness. Or a talent, like playing the banjo. It’s just a fact. Of course, it’s part of my make-up, but I don’t want to trade on it. I am a private person; I think that’s important if you’re an actor.
According to GQ, the actor was reportedly encouraged to keep his sexuality a secret during the initial stages of his career.
5. Andrew Scott Initially Wanted To Be An Artist
While everyone is delighted that Andrew Scott picked acting and performed in brilliant roles, the Ripley star reportedly dreamed of being an artist as a child. He said to BBC that he was planning on following in his mother’s footsteps as she was an art teacher. He said,
When I was six or seven, I knew I was really interested in painting and drawing. I was really obsessed with it growing up. On a fateful day, when I was 17, I had to choose between these two things,” he says. “I’m left with a sense of guilt… because [painting] was such a huge part of my life growing up, and it’s not as much a part of my life now.
Scott had almost chosen the path and had reportedly won a grant to study painting, but chose acting as he was offered a role in the Irish drama Korea on the same day.'

Top 10 Portrayals of Mycroft Holmes
In my last couple lists for the supporting cast of Sherlock Holmes, I discussed two of his closest allies: Mrs. Hudson and Inspector Lestrade. It’s now time for another of his allies, though perhaps the most begrudging of them all: his elder brother, Mycroft Holmes. Mycroft is an intriguing character, because there are essentially two completely different ways to portray him. In the original books, Mycroft is declared to be even smarter than Sherlock is, which is already quite interesting. What makes him even more fascinating, however, is the reveal of his career: Mycroft “IS the British Government.” He’s the head of political and military intelligence, his power seemingly second only to the Prime Minister and the Royal Family themselves. With so much power and brilliance, one would expect Mycroft to be a rather imposing figure…but in Conan Doyle’s stories, the character is actually depicted a sort of comical figure. Mycroft is a sort of stereotypical, pompous bureaucrat in the books; like Sherlock, he’s a trifle eccentric, as well as rather pompous and slightly foppish in demeanor. The humor comes from his blustering attitude and exaggerated rotundity, which are completely at odds with the potential for something more dangerous when you realize what and who he really is. As a result of this dichotomy, different reimaginings and adaptations of Mycroft tend to gravitate more towards one side or the other: some versions play the character very much in the Conan Doyle vein, as a comically uppercrust caricature. Others, however, have focused much more on his political prowess, making him a much more serious character, with the humor stemming now from his dandy manners and the relationship he has with his brother. In the books, Sherlock and Mycroft have a SLIGHT sibling rivalry, but they actually seem to get along fairly well; most reinterpretations, however, really play up that rivalry and have the two constantly at each other’s throats…but when push comes to shove, that brotherly love still shines through. With so many different ways to handle Mycroft, choosing my favorites was rather difficult: this duality to the character and the way he’s been portrayed means that he is both easy to mess up and yet hard to mess up at the same time, if you can imagine such a paradox. I think, however, that the choices I’ve made are more or less finite, though a few may rise or fall on the scale depending on my mood, more than anything else. With that said, here are My Top 10 Portrayals of Mycroft Holmes!
Tumblr media
10. Rhys Ifans, from Elementary.
It took me a while to warm up to this version of Mycroft, but ultimately I did come to like him. In here, instead of being the head of British intelligence, Mycroft is simply an AGENT of said intelligence: he’s essentially this universe’s version of James Bond, a suave and classy spy for MI6, who works under the facade of a restauranteur. While I do have a few issues with this take on the character, overall I think it’s an interesting one; a big part of what makes him good comes from Ifans’ acting.
Tumblr media
9. Robert Morley, from A Study in Terror.
This Mycroft COULD have been in my Top 5, at the very least, if he had a larger role. Morley is probably the most book-accurate take on Mycroft ever, but he’s only in the film for a couple of short minutes, and…well…frankly, he has absolutely NO purpose to be in the story at all. I feel like someone just included him BECAUSE they wanted to see Robert Morley play this character, and…fair play to them, I suppose, I’m glad it happened. I just wish he had more of a reason to be there, and more screentime in his pocket.
Tumblr media
8. Peter Jeffrey, from Hands of a Murderer.
In this period remake of “The Woman in Green” (one of the Basil Rathbone films), Jeffreys Mycroft ends up being kidnapped by Professor Moriarty, who is seeking information he wishes to sell to enemy agents. (Which actually sounds similar to a completely different Rathbone movie, “Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon,” but I digress.) While his role is relatively peripheral, I enjoy Jeffrey’s work with the character, and they really play around wonderfully with the relationship between the two brothers.
Tumblr media
7. Richard E. Grant, from Sherlock: Case of Evil.
While Mycroft’s role in this film is small, his presence is important: it’s revealed that part of the reason he is such a reclusive figure is because he was captured and tortured by Moriarty (after the previous pick, I’m sensing a pattern) during Sherlock’s first encounter with his arch-nemesis. Mycroft’s brain is as sharp as ever, but his body still bears scars. This is one of the most supportive takes on the character out there, and Grant plays him very well.
Tumblr media
6. Boris Klyuyev, from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson.
Arguably one of the funniest versions of Mycroft, in my opinion. This Russian-made TV film series used Mycroft fairly often, and he was always fun to see in action, really leaning into the comedy of the character from the original stories, and even doing a few new things with him, such as having him help Mrs. Hudson during “The Tiger Hunt” (their adaptation of “The Empty House”). Very, very amusing to watch.
Tumblr media
5. The Version from Moriarty the Patriot.
This version takes some obvious cues from the rendition from “Sherlock,” portraying Mycroft as a more traditionally handsome, limber fellow, and really emphasizing his power as “the very embodiment of the British government.” However, he’s a much “warmer” character than the BBC version, which I think helps make him stand out, and gives him a little more of the humor that was present in the original stories. In Japan, he's voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto; the English dub is played by "Black Butler" star himself, J. Michael Tatum.
Tumblr media
4. Stephen Fry, from the Guy Ritchie Films.
Mycroft appears in the second film, “Game of Shadows,” in another case of a “small but important” sort of role. Some of the funniest scenes in the film are thanks to him, and he’s also important in terms of the movie’s climax and conclusion. Fry is a shockingly book-accurate take on the character for the modern era, both in appearance and portrayal, and I think that’s a big part of why I like him. For all the things these films did differently from Conan Doyle, Mycroft almost feels ripped straight out of the pages.
Tumblr media
3. Christopher Lee, from The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.
Lee was the first “serious” Mycroft, depicting the character as a more athletic and icy sort of character. This is ironic, since “The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes” is mostly rather comedic in nature, although it does have its hard edges. With that said, while he is a bit more dramatic than earlier interpretations, he still has a lot of humorous bits and moments. Plus, it’s Christopher Lee: of COURSE he’s awesome.
Tumblr media
2. Mark Gatiss, from Sherlock.
Gatiss not only plays Mycroft in the series, but is also one of its chief creators. As if the guy needed MORE power. This version rather famously plays up Mycroft as a very, VERY authoritarian figure: much colder and more mean-spirited than almost any other interpretation. At times, he’s more of an antagonist than a protagonist in the show. However, he does still have a heart hidden under his dictatorial ways, a fact that’s made clear literally from the start of the series, and does help Sherlock out in various ways throughout the show. I was sorely tempted to make him number one…hopefully the person I chose instead won’t disappoint.
Tumblr media
1. Charles Gray, from the Granada Series.
Gray first played the character in the film “The Seven Per-Cent Solution,” but it’s the Granada series (with Jeremy Brett as his younger brother) that I REALLY recognize him for. Alongside Robert Morley (and possibly Stephen Fry), I would argue that this is the most book-accurate take on Mycroft there’s ever been. I love how even though he is depicted as the generally more lighthearted figure from the original stories, he’s not played up as a caricature or a cartoon, and can be serious when the moment calls for it. The show even had two episodes where Mycroft took the place of each of the Baker Street gang, with one episode teaming him up with his brother, and another teaming him up with Watson. Gatiss may be more recognizable nowadays, but for me, Gray IS Mycroft, just as Brett IS Sherlock and Colin Jeavons IS Lestrade, plain and simple.

BOOK REVIEW: If We Were Villains - M.L. Rio
★★★★★ - 5 stars
"You can justify anything if you do it poetically enough."
Tumblr media
Oliver Marks has finally been released from prison, after serving 10 years for a crime he didn't commit. As Detective Colborne goes into retirement, he wants to know the story - the real story - of what happened. 10 years ago, there were seven. Seven friends making their way through their final year of university together. Seven drama students living in their respective Shakespeare roles on and off stage. There were seven, until one was found dead in the aftermath of altercations caused by changes to the casting list. However, for the remaining six, they found that the play was only just beginning; convincing everyone around them, and each other, that they are innocent of murder may just be their greatest acting challenge yet.
You say Shakespeare gays and Dark Academia murder gang in one book and you have my undivided attention... It's September and in my world September means Autumn and Autumn, well, Autumn means I become emotionally attached to oversized jumpers and addicted to Dark Academia. That's how we ended up here, where I became completely and utterly addicted to If We Were Villains.
This book is the dictionary definition of pain and you go through the seven stages of grief. At several points I genuinely wanted to kill Richard myself and at other times I was on the verge of tears with my Shakespeare-obsessed "If I Killed Someone For You" type of tragic lovers. The foreshadowing was immaculate, but also so subtle that it's near impossible to predict (unless you actually are Sherlock Holmes). To summarise, M.L. Rio's writing is beautiful, heartbreaking and hilarious all in one - it's completely and utterly wonderful, and astounding that this is only her debut.
Unlike in Donna Tartt's The Secret History, a reasonable point of comparison (just with more Shakespeare in the case of If We Were Villains), the characters were actually bearable. Almost everyone in this book (excluding Richard) are characters you can genuinely sympathize with and feel emotions other than an extreme need to throw a chair at their head. It's definitely a large part of what makes If We Were Villains so emotionally difficult to read - you become attached to the characters and then have to witness them undergo all sorts of physical and emotional pain. Yet, it's also undoubtedly what makes it so thrilling to read; your love of the characters makes you turn the page or think "I'll just read one more chapter".
It's commonplace in the dark academia community to describe the aesthetic (and the books) as a whole as 'be gay, do crime'. If We Were Villains is this phrase in summary. It's a tragic love story, it's a tale of murder and pain and it has pretentious drama students who quote Shakespeare as though it's a common turn of phrase. Buy it, read it, love it - that is what I implore you to do.

The New Scooby Doo Movies Season 1 Episodes 5 - 8
5. Guess Who’s Knott Coming to Dinner
Tumblr media
This episode follows the gang arriving at Moody Manor, hoping to ask for directions, but are instead mistaken for Moody’s Nieces and Nephews, throwing them into the mystery of where their supposed uncle has gone.
The guest star for this episode is Homer Pipsqueak! Who is undoubtedly the best element of this episode. Don Knotts (the actual guest star) plays a series of characters in this, dressed in different disguises, however, he isn’t Don Knotts, he’s the aforementioned Homer Pipsqueak, a Sherlock parody, dressing in disguises in an attempt to solve the mystery.
Don Knotts two appearances in The New Scooby Doo Movies landed him as an almost mascot for the series, and guest stars in the show in general, going on to appear in the game Scooby Doo! Night of 100 Frights, all the way in 2002. The actor/comedian is likely best known for his work in shows like Three’s Company and his appearance in It’s a Mad, Mad World, a three and a half hour movie that also starred Jonathan Winters.
Tumblr media
Throughout the episode, Homer appears in different costumes, and it’s one of the best aspects of the entire episode, and I do enjoy the fake out of him being Homer rather than Don Knotts! Alongside this, I also love the more gothic aesthetic this episode returns to, even if this series feels like a large leap away from the horror aesthetics of the original series, I do appreciate the episodes that return to these moments.
This episode’s villain, Captain Moody’s Ghost, is probably the most interesting design we’ve seen so far. The ghost has a snowy white face, floating in his muddy tan cloak, it reminds me a lot of Ghostface actually, although the origins of the two aren’t related. The villain also appeared in the video game alongside Don which is super fun! I’ll have to check it out soon.
Tumblr media
Although this one is more enjoyable, it still ends up being kind of a drag, almost all of these episodes are tedious in some way, and while this one manages to be okay, holding some fun moments, but ultimately not enough to salvage the episode for me! I left most episodes without any or many notes, so these reviews will likely be on the shorter side - as is, this one is okay.
6. A Good Medium is Rare
Tumblr media
A Good Medium follows the gang meeting a lost dog, who they subsequently return to his owner, guest star Phyllis Diller. While at her mansion, they learn that someone is attempting to steal her jewels, staying to aid in solving the mystery.
I actually enjoyed this one a lot! This goes the complete opposite direction to many other episodes, where this one throws so much at you, it’s almost suffocating how swiftly ideas and concepts will rise and fall, it’s truly great!
Phyllis Diller is such a great character in this, she pairs so well with all her characters, and despite being a character who is mostly reliant on the same joke - having had a lot of husbands - it works in the context of the episode. She’s zany enough to keep my attention in a way the heavily watered down comedy acts don’t tend to be! Phyllis was a stand up comedian and actor, along a myriad of other things, defined by a striking style and appearance, she had many voice acting roles including the queen from A Bug's Life, and went on to win six awards for her work.
I haven’t seen any of her work outside of this episode, but I found her comedy and style to work perfectly in this world. Her appearance certainly makes her such an interesting character alone, but she felt entirely herself here, or at least, entirely her character.
The same love cannot be shared for the villains, the phantoms and gargoyle. The phantoms have fine designs, which I mean in the most basic way possible. They wear brown jackets and hats and have striking blue faces, they don’t quite clash as much as the Scarecrow’s design, but I still can’t say this looks great! Meanwhile the gargoyle is a completely fine rendition of the creature, which were placed on houses to act as gutters. They always have such interesting designs regardless, this design does nothing special with it, instead giving a kind of awkward style to the creature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do enjoy the gothic mansion and discussions of ghosts and seances, it pushes the story back into the show's horror roots which I will always appreciate. It’s something I’ve found them moving away from within this series, which I think also acts as an ode to my boredom throughout!
I really enjoyed the ending magic show. It's a great escalation of the episode and pushes it in a new and unique direction that still works and feels on form for the episode, at no point did I sit and wonder why we were here, and it genuinely got laughs out of me! I love this part, and I think the humour mixed with the characters fear of the situation make it all the better; Shaggy finds himself terrified of the tricks, and as such, he messes them up, infuriating the villain, like it’s perfect!
I really enjoy this episode, even if a lot of my reasoning comes down to finding the guest and general storyline funny and entertaining. Not perfect by any means, but certainly a great episode!
7. Sandy Duncan’s Jekyll and Hyde
Tumblr media
I actually like this episode too!
We follow the gang on the set of guest star Sandy Duncan's new movie, the set of which is being torn down soon, however, someone keeps disrupting the set, causing delays.
Sandy Duncan is an actor and comedian, best known for her roles in the Fox and the Hound, The Cat From Outer Space and the 80s MLP movie. Despite this episode's setting, she’s never acted in a horror movie before! I like Sandy Duncan as a character here, she feels like a more fleshed out Candy Mint (Never Ape an Apeman), being a real person and all, although I think it’s important to note that unless stated otherwise, all these actors play caricatures of themselves, therefore when I talk about them, I’m talking about this fictionalised version of them.
This setting takes the Where are you episode (Never Ape an Apeman) and pushes it further, allowing us to live on this set. It’s one of the only times I enjoy the large cast of villains! Usually, the large amount feels like it’s compensating, all of them are bland and it’s difficult to keep track of, giving the episode an unfinished and confusing feeling. In contrast, I found it to aid this episode’s feeling of being a set, we see costumes used all over the place, from the titular Hyde (from the movie Sandy is starring in) to Ghosts, Lions, Dragons and Pirates.
The main villain is Hyde, his design far closer to the 1920s silent movie than the 1931 movie, while the previous Hyde (Where are You, Nowhere to Hyde) feels closer to the more animalistic design of that movie, the green in the poster likely a direct inspiration. Thus design instead is far more human, but the differently shaped eyes is likely an ode to the design of the character in the silent movie.
Tumblr media
Skimming through the other characters I don't care much for, or who lack many interesting ideas, we have a Native American (similar in design to episode one of this season), the pirates, the mummy (similar to in Where are You, Scooby Doo and a Mummy Too), the ghost and Sheik.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This leaves the lion, bear and dragon. The lion and bear are simple, they are the animals, there’s nothing too exciting beyond them being these animals. At the very least, they are character types we haven’t seen yet in the series, but even in comparison to the following episode, they are wholly uninspired. However, I do enjoy the dragon, painted in violet and mauve, the creature is operated by the villain and breathes real fire, the decision to just have a dragon here is so out there that I can’t help but love it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Within the episode itself, there’s some fun ideas! We see the stunt double looking the same as Daphne, therefore forcing her into the role later on, which I like as a way of assimilating the gang directly into danger and the throws of the mystery. And the setting is perfect for the gags and constant chases the episode bestows on us.
I can see myself adoring this episode if only it were shorter, but theres at least ten minutes here that drags! However, usually, I find myself bored for at least twenty minutes so truly I was happy with this one!
And the villain is an old silent actor, it’s such a fun motive and I love how this is integrated, we’ve come a long way from every villain being greedy! Kind of.
Also! There’s a sequel episode in Guess Who!, which is a long way away, but something super exciting to me.
8. The Secret of Shark Island
Tumblr media
For context, there are five episodes in the entirety of the New Scooby Doo Movies that I placed as “good” or above on my rating scale. Three of those were in this set of four!
The episode sees the gang meeting Cher and Sonny during their honeymoon at an island resort. However soon they learn of a shark man lurking nearby.
As guest stars, I like Cher and Sonny! They’re characters on their honeymoon, constantly telling people who they are but asking for no attention, which they never receive anyway; it presents them as egotistical and self-centred, a great concept for one of these guest stars. They also feel pretty separate from the gang for a good chunk of this, so while I enjoyed the time we did spend with them, they never overstayed their welcome. While at times they could be kind of tedious, the episode is constantly moving, it ends up being one of the best paced in the season! Funnily enough, all my favourite episodes in this iteration of Scooby-Doo are the ones that have this faster pacing, always moving somewhere!
Cher is best known for her music, sometimes referred to as the Goddess of Pop! With that being said, she has a lot of acting credits, starring in Moonstruck and The Witches of Eastwick. She was married to Sonny at the time, but the two got a divorce in 1975. The two formed a band for a while, but outside of music, Sonny is maybe best known for his work in politics as a member of the republican party.
I really enjoy the monster here too, a little group of shark men. Somewhat anthropomorphised by their legs and arms, these characters feel so involved in the episode, it gives it so much more intrigue and makes me enjoy it so much more! They’re sharks, that’s mostly it, probably inspired by great whites, although their shade of grey is certainly darker.
Tumblr media
I was pretty shocked by the fact this came out before Jaws. During the cold war, the US military were paranoid about sharks interfering with their water based operations, with this fear seeping into the general population in the 1960s, although it still was nothing major. In fact, before this, there wasn’t too much of a widespread fear of sharks. However, after the release of Jaws, the fear and hatred of sharks blew up, they became a common target with, on average, 100 million sharks killed a year. In contrast, there’s, on average, roughly 60 shark based fatalities a year. I think the fear mongering is important to put into perspective, because sharks aren’t really a threat to people, but their presentation in the media often influences many to be afraid of them, which only leads to their rising deaths.
Taking place before the release of Jaws gives these shark men a different perspective, which I appreciate. The anthropomorphisation for a start makes them unique and stand apart from the real animal, and generally makes for a more interesting design. I love these guys! They’re so cute and angry looking, they look so fun swimming and running around the island, they truly aid in making this episode great. Again, their more frequent appearances allows for the audience to feel their presence, this episode as a whole ends up feeling closer to a Where are You episode which is only a positive thing in my eyes!
The island resort setting is also a nice change of pace. As much as I miss the gothic and brooding backgrounds we used to receive, I’d take the varied locations any day over drear and repeated places. I think that’s something important to give this series credit for! It nails its variety of locations.
Glad to end on a positive note!

Clandestine meetings (part 4)
Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8
Sherlock x (married) oc!
Tumblr media
The weather was surprisingly sunny at this time of the year, and so was the sitting room of Baker Street.
For Devi, the day was quite one of those nice ones. She waited for Debashish to get out of the house so that she could go to Baker Street and meet Holmes, hiding from everyone.
She sat at Dr Watson's chair and told Holmes all about Debashish and his office colleagues, all the little she knew.
Holmes listened to all of that, which mostly was irrelevant, random blabbering, but he let her speak. He thought perhaps since she moved to London, there was no one she could speak to.
Holmes nodded now and then to never let her think that he was not paying attention. After she was done, they sat quietly in their chairs.
Holmes stared at the fire and could feel Mrs Dey look around the sitting room with amazement. The sort of amazement that doubled when she found Holmes' violin near the window.
She gasped in surprise, got up and sprinted to it. "I never knew you could play the violin!" she exclaimed, picking up the instrument.
Holmes smiled at her reaction warmly, as he walked up to her and took the violin in his hand, placing it on his shoulder he placed his bow over the strings,"Then there are many things you do not know about me," he placed his fingers on the strings and moved the bow over them, making the violin buzz. The tune was nothing known as Holmes was still composing it since yesterday.
As he continued with his violin playing, Mrs Dey kept listening to him and Holmes could feel her intense gaze on him. Devi's wide eyes gazed at him with amazement and admiration. Her fingers started to imitate the way Holmes' fingers were changing pattern on his violin.
He, himself was lost in the tune that he couldn't feel Devi's gaze on him anymore. He swayed with the tune. Unknowingly he completed composing it then and there. As he was done, he opened his eyes. Violin still on his shoulder. He sighed deeply before putting the violin down, near the window with the bow and meet Devi's fascinated eyes. Holmes tried to ignore that and asked, "What brings you here?"
"Oh, um nothing," she said with an awkward laugh. The truth came out as she came to Baker Street only to see Holmes again. However, disturbing him was never her intention so to make the meeting a little professional she spoke awkwardly, "I mean, my husband has gone out somewhere for a while. I know that he will not be back until late evening. I thought I should visit Baker Street to meet you, to know more about the case." Mrs Dey looked away nervously. Hoping Holmes won't be mad and throw her out of his flat with her stupid excuses.
"Ah, in that case, you are in luck, " said Holmes with a smirk as he left the window and walked to his arm chair and sat down, indicating Mrs Dey to sit on the other infront of his, "Watson collected all the information we needed to know. I know what we are going to do next."
Devi blinked twice in bewilderment. Her excitement prevented her from going to her chair, she came closer To him and sat on the arm of Sherlock's chair, saying with keen interest, "What is it?"
Holmes observed her behaviour well, he shook his head laughing softly as he replied, "I'm afraid I cannot answer the question. However, I need you to tell me the employees that are out of town and will not be back for long." even saying so he stared at her, fearing of her feelings towards him. Fearing if he's letting it go too far or it can't be restricted. To him, he knows nothing of human emotions. And particularly 'Love' scares him, he abhors emotions, so he wishes to understand Devi's emotions properly and act accordingly to what should be done. Emotions... emotions of this innocent lady, how horrifying.
"My husband was talking about Mr Scott. He has gone to Liverpool for a month." answered Devi. Holmes startled a bit to her answer for he was trying hard to understand this mystery, the mystery called emotions.
"What is his full name?" he questioned her.
"Mr James Scott." she replied after thinking a bit. Holmes took this information in with a sigh, he stared at the fireplace quietly for sometime before deciding on the next step. Then he stared back at Devi only to find her still gazing at him as he came up with the idea of the next step.
"Once you are back home, I need you to send me a photograph of Mr James Scott. Anything will do, even a group photograph. I shall take care of the rest."
Mrs Devi Dey nodded in agreement. Though her mind was cluttered with thoughts, pure ones and sinful ones. The sinful ones seems a bit dominating ones right now. So she dared to do what she always wanted to. Stay where heart belongs, even if it's for a few extra moments.
Holmes' violin reminded her of her musical instrument when she picked it up. She left it in India, at her place. Since she was married she barely touched it. Once in a blue moon when she was allowed to visit her parents she used to play it. Seems an eternity ago these days. Stealing one more glance at the violin she finally said,
"You know, I can play an instrument too."
Holmes was quietly observing her. Her feelings, if he can figure out until she finally spoke. He got back to his surrounding at her voice and cleared his throat as he asked, "Which one?"
"I can play the Sitar." Replied Devi Dey getting up from the arm of his chair and walking towards the violin again. She went closer to the violin, hands trembling as she traced it's outline with her index finger. Hard to tell if her fascination with shaking fingers was for the memory of her musical instrument or ... it's because she was touching something that's too dear to holmes. Perhaps both. She turned back to look at Holmes and stopped touching it. Gaining a bit of composure she spoke as she sat on Watson's chair, "Have you heard anyone play it?"
"Why, of course, I have," said Holmes, An Indian instrument that's quite hard to play, glancing at his gramophone on his side table he recalled the few times he has played a tune or two of sitar. Although he deduced Devi probably isn't in practice anymore, for her fingers barely contained the obvious cuts, sitaar strings were supposed to make, "It sounds melodious and has the potential to be played beautifully."
Mrs Devi Dey grined widely at him, also reminiscing her sitar, the way she used to play it when she was a child, and the grew up and .... Got married, everything changed, her face was getting sadder until the previous moments played itself in her mind, she smiled recalling Holmes playing his violin, and unknowingly she muttered,"There is something about string instruments. Their sounds can be manipulated just by the way you touch them." Mrs Dey's face turned red as she realised what she said out loud.
Holmes chuckled at her words and later reaction to it, no matter how hard he tried to keep his unmoving nature to rule over him but Devi's fascination towards him and innocence made him smile, "That is an excellent observation, Mrs Dey. I knew your perception was remarkable when I decided to take your case."
Devi felt a tug at her heart, he praised her. The man she keeps imagining these days when she's waking up, cooking, sitting alone or whatever she's doing, it's like a relief from the mundane life she was leading for all these years, an escape from her ever wondering questions, 'so Debashis loves me?' 'he must be, as he married me' 'was Debashis praising me or mocking me?' 'is he really the one for me? Why can't I feel that?' All these questions ate her up for two years and at this moment all she wanted to do was throw her arms around Holmes and cry out loud holding him. Debashish never noticed one singular detail about her like Holmes did. However Devi could tell every little thing about Debashish which she can bet Debashis doesn't know himself. She took a deep breath. Holmes was getting concerned seeing her breathing as she tried to calm her down. She was anxious, yet she couldn't hold it in anymore and softly uttered, "I wish I lived here at Baker Street, with you. Like Dr Watson does."
Till now Holmes was suspicious of Devi's feelings, now it was quite clear, he gulped looking down as she uttered her wish. Not just any wish, it came out from the deepest core of her heart. Devi was perhaps falling for Sherlock Holmes. This thought haunted him slightly. A married woman, that's what Devi is. And Holmes? What he will do in the matter of emotions? In the matter of ... love? He definitely sympathizes with her, given how dismissive her husband is of her. He sees a wonderful woman behind the exterior who could flourish if given the opportunity. But it's not him... he hoped atleast it's not him. To lighten the air of the room he chuckled again, joking,
"You will not be able to bear with me and my eccentricities. No one can, with the singular exception of Watson."
Such words coming from his mouth infuriated Devi, does he not see? Being merely close to him is like a breath of fresh air to Devi? Does he not feel how she gazes at him? Does he not... no he probably doesn't know the sinful thoughts Devi has of him all the time, the thought of being with Holmes, leave her marriage and embrace Holmes, solve cases after cases with him. However the self loathing of Holmes was utterly unacceptable to Devi. Perhaps the first time Holmes saw how much enraged Devi can be as she spoke loudly with passion,
"It's not that! You better not underestimate yourself!"
Holmes was surprised, seeing the fire in her eyes. As for Devi, she finally felt relieved to have some rage let out... even though it was at Holmes. For atleast he won't put her down for being herself. A knock on the door was heard, making both of them realise the time, the place and of that there was a person outside the door, as the door creaked opened came in Watson.
Watson stared at both of them with his eyebrows raised standing at the doorstep. With a corner of his lips curved a bit.
Mrs Dey cleared her throat as she understood she was rather late, Debashis would be returning any moment. "I believe I should leave. I will send you the photograph, Mr Holmes, do not worry." Holmes nodded and she got up from the chair. Bidding them good night she left the flat.
"What was that about, Holmes?" asked Watson as he sat in his own chair. Lighting up his smoke pipe.
Holmes sat down as well and waved it off. "It was nothing."
Watson narrowed his eyes but he fortunately did not press the matter. Knowing his friend can be a bit secretive sometimes.
"What about the case? What are we supposed to do next?" he asked, changing the topic.
"Mrs Dey will send me a photograph of one James Scott, an employee at The Daily Telegraph. You will see what happens next," he said and got up from his chair to go to his room. He could feel Watson's glare on his back. He turned around and confirmed Watson's glare at him.
"I am sorry, Watson. I cannot resist a touch of drama. Just you wait." he smirked as he said it. For he knew the mischief he was planning.
As he finally made his way to his bedroom he paced up and down with restlessness to recieve the very important telegram from Devi Dey that would make the mystery clearer.

every (silent, feature-length) buster keaton film ranked by the presence of trains
Tumblr media
three ages: no trains. a resoundingly meh movie. overall a waste of time. 0/10.
Tumblr media
our hospitality: the second act showcases a goofy, historically accurate stephenson's rocket locomotive that buster and co. built from scratch by looking at a couple pictures in a book. like you do. it was so accurate that a museum asked to take it after filming; as far as i know, it's still on display. bonus points for the cutest damn scene-stealing dog. 100/10.
Tumblr media
sherlock, jr: the train is instrumental in setting up a cool gag, but it broke buster's neck. sure, he walked it off, but it still broke his neck! bad train. -1/10.
Tumblr media
the navigator: there is no train, but i give the film honorary points because it takes place on a boat, which is basically a train. points docked for the shockingly racist cannibal scene at the end, which is only somewhat balanced out by buster empathizing with a black newlywed couple in the beginning. 5/10.
Tumblr media
seven chances: there's a train, but it's used with a supporting actor in blackface to make a joke about black people being stupid. not cool, buster. -50/10.
Tumblr media
go west: TWO train scenes! the first one made me laugh so hard i sprained something. the second one plays a key role in setting up the finale, and it has a shoot-out. bonus points for buster protecting his love interest, brown eyes the cow. so many bonus points. 500/10.
Tumblr media
battling butler: there is a scene with a train. it is small, but buster is adorable in it. bonus points awarded for how much he's shirtless in this movie, and for the interesting commentary on masculinity. 7/10.
Tumblr media
the general: oh my god. *deep breath* 10,000 points for THREE TRAINS!!! A TRAIN IS THE LOVE INTEREST! THEY STUNT DRIVE TRAINS! THEY BLOW UP A TRAIN! THE MOVIE ITSELF IS NAMED AFTER A TRAIN!!!—but it upholds white supremacy so minus 9,998 points. 2/10.
Tumblr media
college: there is a train present for all of two seconds. what's worse, this time buster puts on blackface. not even the presence of multiple racing shells is enough to salvage this. -100/10.
Tumblr media
steamboat bill, jr: there's a scene at a train station in the beginning, but mostly i'm awarding points for the titular steamboat, upon which a good chunk of action takes place. also because i eat up buster's daddy issues with a spoon. 10/10.
Tumblr media
the cameraman: an elevated train goes by in the background when buster's hamming it up in yankee stadium. i'd like to dock points for buster being a yankees fan, but that's unfair to the train—especially since it very generously added itself to a film which would otherwise have been trainless. it disappears when the shot cuts away, but whatever. half a train is still better than no train. 0.5/10.
Tumblr media
spite marriage: no train. there is a boat, but dorothy sebastian ruins it by spending 90% of the movie being absolutely wretched to buster, who is nothing but 100% organic husband material. i can only conclude she's blind. points docked for illogic and viewer distress. -10/10.
