MY AVIATION ORIGIN STORY

Basically, and I’m not exaggerating, I randomly decided to make a sad-excuse for a helicopter as a part of our wood shop unit in middle school. I genuinely do not know why I chose a helicopter, there is no reason for me to have chosen a helicopter lol. My wood shop teacher is like “I’m actually very intrigued on why you picked a helicopter like what made you pick it? I’m impressed!” And I literally had not answer for him.

My interest was solidified when I went to EAA AirVenture. Watching the F-22 Raptor fly was and always will be breathtaking to me. That demo gave me the love for military aviation and especially fighters that I have today.

Mary is so sexualized, especially in fics where she’s all boy crazy so I’m hesitant on her character and liking her…..

I mean, that’s how a few people have written her but that doesn’t have to be her main trait. Even if she was boy crazy that’s fine, but being sexualised is just frustrating, I think she’s a really sweet, confident character and a loyal af friend, especially to her girls, but I see her super close to the marauders boys for sure, definitely don’t push her aside just because a couple people wrote her in a way you don’t like!

Oh yes! I think you would love the main protagonists and their connection. I'm feral about this movie, I just watched the day before yesterday, and I'm so anxious to have time off so I can draw fanart of the thing because it's soooo good.

Now, I love horror, so I have seen so much horror in my life that I can tell you this is one of those movies in the genre that are different. Our protagonist is Sam (short for Samira) and she has a cat named Frodo (I'm sorry but that was genius in so many ways, I can't tell you why because spoilers but they really make it made sense, there is truly a connection there). Frodo the cat is a character as well, I have never seen a movie before that has an animal that has indeed some weight into the movie (at least not one that is not like Marley and Me or those kind of movies).

Anyway, sorry, back to Sam. The first thing you know when the movie starts is that she has cancer. A woman who has cancer in a movie that develops into an apocalyptic world is really interesting. The movie explored this in detail, and I loved every second.

She is tired, she is angry, she is brave, and at the same time, you can tell she is scared af. She has some problems trying to connect with people because she thinks there is no point in it anymore, and probably because she thinks they are sorry for her and therefore their interest is not genuine.

She used to be a writer. She wrote a book about poems. She doesn't have the drive to write anymore, but she carries a notebook, whatever she goes, and I love her so much, Betty. I can't even explain the whole of it.

So next, we get to know the ML. Name is Eric, she is from England and went to NY to study to be a lawyer. He is how you write Eddie on your Stranger Things fics. I went even more feral at this point, I was chewing my fist. They were perfect together.

They connect. They make wonderful things for each other.

I would say something I just learned yesterday before I go. Eric has anxiety in the movie. He has panic and anxiety attacks during the movie. What they removed is that he was trying to kill himself when the whole alien/monster ordinal began, and then, he met Sam. They erase this part from the movie, I guess because of time, because I could tell anyway while watching that Eric was maybe suecidal or that al least he was neurodivergent (again, I would love to elaborate but spoilers).

Hope you have the chance to watch it, I would love to know your thoughts if you do so. Also, you can scream at me about it if you enjoy it as much as I did.

So basically, this is a movie about two really lonely people that connect and gain perspective about life and themselves while trying to survive the beginning of an apocalypse. It felt very transformative. It was perfect.

Some of my Favorite Manga That Deserve an Anime Adaptation

Red River (28 volumes)

😍😍😍 !!!!!!!! *gestures dramatically at the screen* I just!!! I cannot scream this enough!!!! This forgotten gem stole my heart in 2020 and I cannot get over it. In a word, this series is: passionate. Exquisite. UNDERRATED. 😭😭😭 It's a historical isekai romance that is full of political intrigue, erotica, brilliant characterization, GORGEOUS art, and great action. This manga is the reason why I wrote 3 out of the 8 non-crossover Red River fics that exist on AO3 lmaooooo. IT'S JUST SOOOOO GOOD!!!! I never finished a series longer than 7 volumes within less than 2 weeks, and completely online, no less! It's a damn shame that it's so hard finding even physical copies of the manga to own, because dammit, I NEED!!!! 😍😍😍🥺🥺🥺 I would straight up CRY from joy if an anime adaptation was ever announced skgjfdfkjgdf (but I doubt it'd ever happen 😭)

MAO (14 volumes and counting!)

I mean, it's only the legendary Rumiko Takahashi's latest work, COME ON. It has Takahashi's usual touch in the art style, themes, and motifs, but is also wonderfully refreshing, with all new memorable characters and low-key one of her BEST main ships of all time. The game's afoot, and there's mysteries to unravel with deeper conspiracies beneath them all, all with a hot immortal doctor and a feisty girl who shares his curse with a cat demon thing (a byoki, to be precise). WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?!

FAKE (7 volumes)

Yes, there's an OVA 2-part special. No, it's not enough. This bitch is thirsty for MORE. 😍😍😍👀👀👀 Yuri on Ice may be the first "yaoi" to steal my heart (I only put quotations because there's no porn lol), but FAKE is the first "official" yaoi to make me SQUEEEE while reading. Yes, this older series is not free from some of the unfortunate trappings of older yaoi series (*cough* noncon issues! *cough cough*), but I think what makes it work is that it's never pushed too far. And honestly, the mysteries surrounding their work as private detectives was so compelling, that it was almost like they never had time for shenanigans.... until after they fell in love 👀👀👀 Or, rather, after Ryo FINALLY accepted that he's gay AF for Dee lmao. Also: points for Dee being an openly bisexual man, who constantly corrects those who call him a homosexual. For the 90's??? That's surprisingly progressive.

Angel Sanctuary (20 volumes)

Yes, there's a 3 episode OVA. But it only "covers" the first 2 volumes out of TWENTY. This series is absolutely gorgeous: the Gothic inspired art, every panel is just dripping in angst, detail, and passion. The incest takes a backseat for the REAL drama, a savage dressing down of the hypocrisy of Christian ideals in a world where even the realm of Heaven is corrupt and full of sin. Dark, angsty, deliciously sinful, and a thoughtfully cynical yet inspiring commentary on what makes us human (even if you're a devil or an angel), it is an absolute CRIME that this series was never made into a full-length anime. If other controversial anime can be made/adapted in this day and age, then why not give this classic, forgotten gem a try, anime studios?! 😤

The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross (11 volumes)

Arina Tanemura's art is simply *chef's kiss* She has such a Shoujo Style that is unparalleled. Two are of her earlier works were made into beloved early 2000's magical girl anime series: Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon wo Sagashite. So why not THIS?! It is such a deliciously absurd Drama that is addicting and frustrating as hell. It's also just a truly touching tale of how family baggage can be so damaging to people's perceptions on love, relationships, and self-worth. It's a series that's near and dear to my heart, and I'd love to see it animated one day.

Kitchen Princess (10 volumes)

This adorable series is 90% fluff, 10% ANGST, with some of the cutest art styles imaginable. If you're itching for a series about food that doesn't go batshit like Food Wars (I love that show, but I can understand that it can be, er, overwhelming lol), Kitchen Princess invites you in for tea and cake and holds your hand as you eat delicious desserts that warm your soul. It is just a sweet, sweet story, with an abundance of fluff, but enough angst and hurt/comfort to balance out the cutesyness. Definitely a comfort food series that NEEDS AN ADORABLE, WHOLESOME ANIME AND CUTESY SOUNDTRACK, DAMMIT!!!!

Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden (12 volumes)

If the original series can get an anime, then SO CAN THE PREQUEL, DAMMIT!!!! Genbu Kaiden took what is good about Fushigi Yuugi, and made it better. The protagonist is a thousand times more likable and stronger, both physically and emotionally. The dramatic scenes are far more effective and don't rely on Soap Opera BS. And the art has improved! GENBU KAIDEN DESERVES MORE LOVE!!!

Arisa (12 volumes)

Don't let the cutesy art fool you: this is one of the darkest series I ever read that didn't kill off the entire cast. With the right soundtrack and animation studio, this could be a downright chilling show to watch, without resorting to Higurashi levels of terror and violence. I don't Do horror at all, but the psychological thrills and twists of this dark series kept me invested, frightened, alarmed, and entertained until the very end. I would love to see it animated one day.... 👀

Shinobi Life (13 volumes)

THE BODYGUARD ROMANCE BEFORE YONA OF THE DAWN MADE IT COOL!!!! 😍😍😍 Lol, but in all seriousness, this series is SO GOOD!!! Now that I finally own all of the physical copies published in English (which is only half, because this world is cruel 😭😭😭), I cannot WAIT to dive back into this world of time-traveling ninjas and reincarnated princesses and adorkable relationship shenanigans, with an added bonus of backstory ANGST.

Alice in the Country of Joker: Circus and Liar's Game (7 volumes)

Listen. LISTEN. I DEMAND AN ANIME BASED OFF THIS MIND-BOGGLING TRASH, and no, not just that joke of a "movie" that is even somehow even more incoherent than the countless manga spin-offs. Not all of us have the patience or understanding to play the games, pleeeeeease 😭😭😭

Honorable Mentions:

Fairy Cube (3 volumes)

First of all: fairies. Second of all: this tiny 3-volume series is such a clusterfuck of chaos, lightning fast plot points, that if stretched out to even a 12 or 13 episode series would probably make it coherent AND give justice to the story.

Alice 19th (6 volumes)

Same logic to Fairy Cube: I just want someone to take this mind-fuck of a series, because, in the right studio and director's hands, it'd be soooo amazing!

Otomen (17 volumes)

Honestly, I barely remember much of this adorkable series, other than the very refreshing and honest takes on gender, gender roles, and gender identity and how all are similar and yet separate. It would be nice to see more representation in mainstream anime, even now.

RG Veda (10 volumes)

Once again: a 2-episode OVA does not an anime make. Literally I just love the art and mythologies. And it's one of CLAMP's earliest work, and is low-key their most gorgeous. Imagining this story animated to today's standards would be *chef's kiss* AMAZING!!! 😍

Kilala Princess (5 volumes)

Let me make one thing absolutely clear: this will never happen. Ever. Never ever ever. Not in my lifetime, certainly, as long as copyright laws exist. If Kingdom Hearts is never gonna get an anime/animated show adaptation, then this cutesy manga sure as hell won't. But GODS I WANT IT!!!!!! 😍😍😍🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭 It is every childhood Disnerd's self-insert dream come true sdkjgdjfgr

ok omg so. the official synopsis i wrote for it is currently this one:

Six years after a deadly virus took over humanity, Vi and Powder do all they can to survive when the younger of two sisters falls sick to a lesser evil. With supplies in Zaun running low, they venture towards the next refuge in search of medicine: Piltover, a militarized powerhouse that may be their last hope—although the journey proves difficult and their chances low. As ghosts of the past resurface, the infected are not the only things the sisters will have to worry about. or An Arcane/League of Legends Caitvi zombie AU that also focuses heavily on Powder and Vi's dynamic

The fic will probably be 3 chapters long and I have most of it planned out already. The three main characters are Vi, Powder, and Cait, but it does feature other League/Arcane cameos and mentions (hehe)

As for the ages, Vi is a bit older than she is in the second act of Arcane, and Powder is as old as her First Act self, with Cait being one year older than Vi. This roughly leaves our main cast as Vi (24), Cait (25), and Powder (13).

The gist of it is based on Standard Zombie World, and although the infection is viral, it does share some tropes with The Last of Us.

And Caitlyn and Vi actually know each other from before the apocalypse...

Either way, the current not so official name is What Moves the Dead (blatantly stolen from a book). I'd love to share more snipets here and if anyone else has any questions I'll do my best to answer them without spoiling it too much hehehe

Ooooh! My main idiots! Yessssssss I shall answer for both 🐸

3. How did you choose their name?

Evelyn: I was (and am) obsessed with the movie The Mummy (1999) and loved Rachel Weisz’s character and wanted to be her so bad when I was a kid that I wanted my name to be changed to Evelyn 🤣

Cross: oh man, quick backstory time. I had an OC for a fantasy story I was writing when I was a teen and had the main anti-hero name be Krahs. Dunno where it came from, I think I shortened it from a longer variation. Eventually scrapped the story but kept the name around for a Charon/FLW fic I wrote (all 122k of it that I never posted oooof) and there was a random ghoul OC I had that carried the namesake of Krahs (pronounced Cross). The spelling of the name itself didn’t really fit his character, and as I was working his personality I was also playing the reboot of Tomb Raider at the time. I came up with this idea I really liked how Croft sounded, so very one-syllable, but didn’t necessarily want it as his name, and then BAM- Cross came to be. I personally love and think it suits him very well…but he does actually have a ‘real name’ that won’t be revealed till the finale of my Fallout series.

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

For both of them, yes. Cross was always a womanizer, and Evelyn was an OC ship I had with Charon. They both actually weren’t supposed to be a pairing together originally, but their chemistry worked so well they’re now my main pairing.

17. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?

Evelyn: Being a twin. It sort of made for a weak plot point in the beginning, but I’ve tweaked things and made it work much better now.

Cross: Being a good painter. I scrapped this entirely, since it didn’t really make much sense for his character and felt way too random.

18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

Evelyn: Hmm. I can’t say anything, really. I’ve had her fleshed out for some years now, and while I’m definitely getting to explore her more ‘youthful’ nature in my Charon/FLW fic, they’re elements I’ve had for a while.

Cross: He used to play baseball Pre-War. Nothing professional, but he was on the high school team and absolutely dominated the field when playing with the town’s amateur league on Saturdays. Definitely felt like a better fit for him. Plus I have the urge to paint him in a snuggly fitting baseball uniform 😈

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

Evelyn: She’s a freaking superhuman (in MoTC at least). Love the trope of scarily strong unsuspecting women that can kick total ass and bring entire buildings down. Felt very Mary-Sue at first, but then I gave zero fucks and now I unabashedly love it.

Cross: Ooh, I’m gonna be lame and cringe af and say I don’t have one as I love his character as a whole. I’ve put a lot of time and writing into fleshing him out for the past few years, and he’s come a looooong way from being a minor character (and getting killed off very quickly) to being my main goon that carries the entire series on his shoulders. He’s a charismatic, badass, bounty hunting ghoul merc with a foul mouth and questionable moral compass (and a total lovey sap for his wife) and I’m looking forward to completing his story and then rewriting him in new ones.

2. List 3 shipping tropes you don’t love

Unrequited Love/Unhappy ending. I can't stand unhappy endings 😭 I'm not shipping to have my feelings hurt!

Body Swap: I just find this one a bit icky (although I love Your Name...😅) but normally I'm not into using body swap as a shipping trope.

Love Triangles: I don't even like triads much, but that's much more preferable to love triangle for me. I like drama in a relationship, but only when it's between the two main characters. The third wheeler can piss off 😂.

9. Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?

I would say more often than not, yes I do, but it really depends on the fandom and how involved I'm in it. Also, I might have an inkling of a feeling like "Oh, they would be good together" but not really care if there is romance in the source material at all. Naruto and Harry Potter (and a little bit of Bleach) are the only fandoms I searched fanfics and fanart of ships for, as an example. But, yeah, I'd say it's pretty natural for me to form some sort of ship when I get into a fandom.

13. List 5 OTPs from past fandoms

Other than Naruto and HP it's a bit hard, but here's what I can think of! Not listed in any order, and I tried to use one ship from a franchise.

Alphonse Elric/Winry Rockbell (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Alphonse was always my favourite character from the series, and even though the Ed/Win ship was so obvious from the beginning, I liked this one better, probably because I always loved Alphonse and liked Winry more than Mei. Also in the non-canon movie Emperor of Shambala, they have a good about of interactions without Ed around so that always reinforced the ship for me.

2. Kumiko Yamaguchi/Shin Sawada (Gokusen)

Gokusen is my all time favourite manga and this is the canon ship in it (although it's not a romance fic and it all happens near the end/in the epilogue/special chapters). Kumiko is the grand daughter of a Yakuza boss and decides to become a high school teacher, and Shin is her surly student. Shin is always supporting her when she needs help the most and even though the romance isn't really a focus of the manga, what's there is great.

3. Byakuya Kuchiki/Yoruichi Shihouin (Bleach)

I never thought about this pairing until Turn Back the Pendulum, but seeing such a petulant version of Byakuya and how Yoruichi knows just how to rile him up made me instantly like the idea of this.

4. Zuko/Katara (Avatar the Last Air Bender)

Zuko is my favourite character from the series, loved his growth, and I also liked how bull-headed and stubborn Katara could be at times. Just thought they fit well together.

5. Yusuke Urameshi/Keiko Yukimura (Yu Yu Hakusho)

I can't think of anything to say, it's been a long time since I've seen the series, but I love them all them same!

Hiii thanks for asking! This got super long so I‘m diving each one with a ——— so it’s easier to read!

Officially, my first oc was/is Tomato the tomato girl, whom I made as a 12y old for a jump n run game called "Tomato and the quest for Spaghetti“ in one of those "make your own game“ online thingies that give you a bunch of small game templates to edit. The plot was (iirc) either that the holy Spagetti was stolen or lost, or that there was no ketchup left for said spaghetti and she went out to find it. …don’t think too much about the implications of the latter one.

I still "use“ her the way I "use“ most ocs I’ve got; that is, making them in character creators and occasionally drawing them if I‘m bored, as cameos, or memes. So not actively.

Since she’s basically been "dormant“ since I was 15, only her looks changed, mostly!

Originally her hair was literally just a tomato, and the outfit was a sleeveless square dress in red with a green scarf (and isn’t that a familiar color palette?),

then it became a winter dress with sleeves,

then went back to the first one but the scarf was gone and tried to actually draw her a bit rounder,

gained a friend and the hair‘s become regular hair,

ran both looks parallel as seasonal outfits,

and then I was 15. Have been sitting on a potential "future“ look for an older version of her, as she was originally set at ~12y old like me at the time.

Actual story is…I’ve got a bunch of small "testing out how writing works“ WIP’s in the drafts (and I think 1 of them might even have been posted?) on my oc blog, but the only stories that actually ever saw the light of day were a bunch of crack fics about emojis me and my bff wrote in 6th grade. One person sent one part, and then the other one continued writing a bit from there. The greatest of them was the dramatic life and romance of the star and comet emoji.

Like. The Finale is one big fightscene on top of a volcano and also makes up half the story. The main villains are Manfred von Karma Ace Attorney and Günther Fire Emblem Fates. There’s a Yuri-on-Ice segment between the shit emoji and literal broccoli, which turns into the best romance in this entire thing and is to this day unironically the most invested I have ever been in a ship. A group of 7 only had 6 people in it and we didn’t notice until the very end. It was very bad, and very glorious.

I kid you not, if you want to have the best fun you could ever have with writing, grab yourself a friend or anyone online, and start writing an absolute crack fic with no holding back, it’ll be fun af

Aside from the absolutely best romance ever created that’s alluded to up there, for my own guys- whatever the heck is (supposed to be) going on between Violet and Mage. It’s basically "I vibe with who you are but hate what you stand for“.

Or alternatively, the arranged marriage trope but the marriage is friendship and the arrangement is Red, and also it’s enemies to rivals

Because, in principle, Violet and Mage hate each other. Violets entire life has been dictated by duties and trying her damn hardest to get good enough with light magic to meet the expectations of her family because of her high magic potential, only to fall through, and basically spent her whole life stuck in a single room with barely any contact to others let alone anything genuine. Meanwhile there’s Mage who wields his dark magic with an ease like it’s a kids toy and no problem using it for petty things, no regard for the damage it could potentially cause, can do whatever the heck he wants and go everywhere, and worst, having all the freedom in the world yet CHOOSING to lie to everyone and himself, while she has been forced to follow a script that ends with her doom.

On the other hand, Mage looks at Violet and sees another pompous royal judging him based on status differences, whose family is leeching off his hard-earned bearings just because some legend says they’ve got special god sealing juice in their line, AND she has the absolute audacity to deliberately let the people who know her think she’s still missing or even dead, when his best friend went missing 5 years ago and he never found out what happened, how dare she make others go through that pain.

They also both know the other is lying to themself basically 24/7 and reaaaallly don’t like having that mirror in front of their faces.

On the other hand, they keep having things in common, and the fact annoys them both whenever it’s pointed out. They’re both unashamedly manipulative. Mage got no problem lying and backstabbing for his own gains, while Violet has no issue using manipulation and such if that’s the "most efficient way" to solve any given problem (even if it includes pretending you’re MIA). They also very much like to tag-team to mess with others in that regard. They both hate having to play an act personality-wise, but also understand that’s often the only way to gain the best outcome of any situation.

And they‘re both absolutely nerds. Loving history, knowledge, learning things and excitedly tell others fun facts, a fascination for magic (something Violet only begrudgingly admits) and are absolutely thrilled that there’s finally another person who not only wants to listen but also KNOWS what they’re talking about and can add to it with their own info, AND they both enjoy talking to the other in general.

Basically, they would NEVER even walk near each other a 1km radius if they both hadn’t been friends with Red, but if she was ever out of the equation afterwards, there‘s a good chance they’d actually hang out with each other at least for a while (It’d inevitably fall apart. But there’s also a chance they’d hang out again perhaps, probably by accidentally being forced to work together again)

Also somewhere along the line their designs started reflecting that whole "completely opposite sides but also the same things in common“ thing a bit and I still think that’s the smartest thing I’ve ever done lmao

Why are you even reading SJM books if you have a complaint about everything. It's SJM story not yours. You're entitled to your opinions and critics as anyone is but my god, Sarah already said that the spin offs will focus on OTHER pairs, that Feysands arc is done, no matter how much youcomplain that isn't changing that. I get you love Feyre darling but your entitlement behavior and then putting words in SJMs mouth to justify your hatred for everything else is weird AF, Sarah saying she connected with Nesta and felt the need to address mental health was her choice and impactful for many, yet here you are implying she didn't mean that, did she tell you that personally. Just because YOU don't connect with the story and other characters didn't meant Sarah lost her touch and lied to her readers about it. Why do Nesta and Elain fans freak whenever anyone points out they want the story to be about the MAIN character and think it was a mistake to do the sisters books.

I enjoyed the first three and half books, they aren’t that deep, they are fantasy romances. I enjoyed Feyre’s character arc. I just think SJM made a mistake extending the series. I still think the series will always go back to Feyre. Who SJM has said is the “center of everything”, so no matter what she is the main character and it’s her story. So no I do not hate everything about the books. I actually enjoy the first three and half books alot and have reread them a bit.

I don’t necessarily think SJM lied, but I think the quality of ACOSF shows she didn’t have as deep of a connection with her as Feyre or even Bryce in CC (I haven’t read TOG).

ACOSF is a bad mashup of CC1 and ACOMAF, it has no new plot ideas, massive plot holes, and fails to give the reader proper closure between Nesta and Feyre (which is what most readers wanted to see). It really failed Nesta and Nessian’s story, I think she did a better job with Nesta in ACOWAR then her own book. That isn’t a good thing.

It was just a badly done book, and it’s not like SJM can’t write. She wrote CC2 during this time and that is one of my favorites. ACOSF is a divisive book, that isn’t a good thing. Nobody gets this upset at her other books that I have read, and that’s a problem.

I am judging based on the actions not based on what she said during interviews. She is paid to promote these books, she will never say “well my publishers insisted on more ACOTAR books but I really want to focus on CC”.

It’s clear from reading CC and ACOSF what SJM was more invested in. It wasn’t Nesta, because a majority of ACOSF is her info dumping to make the cross over make sense.

Aaaaaa omg these are such amazing questions!!! I'm always literally so excited to talk about my girl sdlskdjfsdf I've put the answers below the cut because they got long af

1) What inspired you to make Iryna?

I’d been making OCs for shows (especially anime) and movies I enjoy for years haha so of course when BNHA came out and I watched the first season, I knew I had to make an OC for it as well! I had come up with a character concept of a foreign student at U.A. who travelled to Japan to find her missing mother and even drew a design that is extremely similar to Iryna’s current one, but I didn’t do much with the character until the pandemic hit and I re-watched the show up to season 5. I really enjoyed it on the rewatch so I went back through my old art and found the character design I’d made back when the anime first came out and decided to breathe some new life into the character. I’d actually come up with her nickname, “Kova”, long before her given name, so I re-used that and started fleshing out her backstory.

As for why she’s Ukrainian? I really wanted to make an Eastern European OC and it gave me the opportunity to extrapolate on what hero societies might look like in the BNHA world outside Japan or America. I don’t remember why exactly I settled on Ukraine, though. (It was long before the Russian invasion I swear I didn’t intend it to line up with current events!)

The other challenge I had was trying to figure out exactly where she fit into the BNHA world. I knew I wanted her to be a U.A. hero student, but I didn’t want her to replace anyone in the canon Class 1-A or 1-B. Eventually, after some thought, I settled on her being a year younger than the protagonists and entering U.A. as part of the incoming Class 1-A. The mentorship program idea that drives the plot of my fic Ground Zero formed when I realized that her quirk had some similarities to Bakugou’s and then basically went “wouldn’t it be funny if they interacted cuz they’re both pretty stubborn and hotheaded too” and then I ended up really liking their dynamic. It 100% wasn’t planned as a ship initially, but ended up heading in that direction the more I wrote them.

2) What's Iryna's home life like?

She’s really, really close to her (remaining) family! Though she hasn’t seen her mother since she was eight, she has a really strong bond with her dad, Sasha, who has always been very supportive of her dreams. She’s EXTREMELY protective of her younger brother by six years, Mykyta, especially since he’s quirkless, and has played a huge part in helping raise him— she takes her job as Big Sister very, very seriously. She also lived with her grandmother, Stanislava, in the small town of Letychiv for a few years before moving to Japan to attend U.A., and is very close with her as well. They’re not a wealthy family, but they’re a very tight-knit bunch. Iryna would definitely say she has a happy home life, but she still really misses her mother, Reina, and wants to learn the truth behind her mysterious disappearance. It’s also worth noting here that she knows pretty much nothing about her Japanese side of the family since Reina never told her children anything about her life prior to moving to Ukraine.

3) Who is Iryna's closest friend at U.A.?

Since she’s a year younger than the canon main cast, the people she’s closest to are her own classmates— I actually have 19 other OCs that make up the rest of the new Class 1-A lol maybe one day I’ll get around to sharing more about them. Of the class, her closest friends are Iida Tenshi (Tenya’s cousin) and Monoma Nagito (Neito’s brother). Outside her class, she’s closest to Bakugou since he’s her mentor, and as such will sometimes hang around with the Bakusquad.

4) What's Iryna and Bakugou's relationship like when they finally get together?

finally being the key word here lmao I don’t see them officially dating in high school at all. They both would rather launch their careers and pursue their dreams first, and a proper relationship comes many years down the line when they’re both Pros.

People expect their relationship to be a lot more volatile, since they’re both very stubborn, tend to set high expectations for themselves, and have very fiery personalities, but it’s actually kinda… remarkably chill? A lot of it is a continuation of how they are as friends and comrades-in-arms, just knowing each other inside and out and almost always being on the same wavelength. Their non-verbal communication skills are ridiculously strong— to the point where Iryna can tell what kind of mood Katsuki is in just by the sound of his footsteps— and they just kinda know what the other needs and wants without either of them having to vocalize it. Even when they were just friends, he was way more lenient with her than he was with anyone else, letting her borrow his stuff, cooking for her, tutoring her (without yelling at her lol), tolerating her teasing, and just generally allowing her to be in his space. It did take her a while to wear down his defences and get to that point but now he’s totally wrapped around her little finger and there’s nothing either of them can do about it. His friends still tease him about it mercilessly.

As adults, they’ve both matured a lot and put a ton of effort into strengthening their relationship on and off the battlefield. They play-bicker with each other, but rarely seriously fight (the rare fights are usually of the “don’t be so damn reckless!!” variety). The one major thing that everyone notices when they do finally get together is how flirty they become with each other— not that they weren’t low-key constantly flirting in their own weird ways before, but now it’s INSUFFERABLE lol they’re always trying to show off for each other and making little competitive bets and using sparring as foreplay. Despite this, they prefer to keep their relationship as private from the media as they possibly can. Overall, they’re best friends and allies and lovers all wrapped up into one, and as Iryna herself notes, there’s no Molotova without Dynamight.

5) How does Iryna's quirk work?

Her quirk, Nuclear Fission, allows her to generate and release massive quantities of fission energy, akin to a nuclear reactor or an atomic bomb. She can detonate this energy into explosions, or can channel it (especially once her control has gotten a lot better) and use it as a power source. A byproduct of her quirk makes her completely immune to nuclear radiation, allowing her to handle nuclear materials that would normally be extremely deadly with her bare hands for as long as she wants without the risk of death. While it’s a very powerful and useful quirk, it’s also quite dangerous— overuse of her powers can potentially send her body into a nuclear meltdown state that will cause irreparable damage and in extreme circumstances, even lead to a horrible, excruciating death. Because of this, she has to work hard to learn how to control her quirk and keep herself stable. Ingesting Uranium-235 supplements can provide short, temporary boosts to her power, and using her quirk manifests physically as her skin lighting up with the blue glow of Cherenkov radiation. I should also note that her explosions don’t leave radioactive waste behind, as part of her quirk (the part that also allows for her radiation immunity) makes it so that the radioactivity she produces decays in seconds rather than hundreds of years. (If you want to read more about how exactly her quirk works, Chapter 15 of Ground Zero goes into further detail!)

Some fun facts and behind the scene notes about the ICBTOYC series because the next update is taking a bit longer then I would like, so here’s something to hold down the fort:

The title of the series comes from a lyric in the song Brother by NEEDTOBREATHE and Gavin DeGraw. It’s sort of the theme song of the series in my eyes and if you check out the song, you’ll understand why

Actually all of the fics have a song that inspired it. For most fics, the song’s lyrics ended up in the title, but some didn’t- Doc’s is Brother by Matt Corby, Iskall’s is Belong by X Ambassadors, Etho’s is False Confidence by Noah Kahn, Keralis’ is Two by Sleeping at Last, Cub’s is Guillotine by Jon Bellion, False’s is The Fixer by Brent Morgan, and Zedaph’s is Dreamland by Glass Animals

My favourite quote from the whole series so far is a tie “Apolllo you bitch, I never wanted this gift of prophecy. Take it back you coward” and “Mumbo tried to stop him and Ren just straight up barked at him, Mumbo looks so offended”

Some very early foreshadowing that may have been missed is that in Iskall’s fic, they say that Jevin doesn’t go with them to the party because he doesn’t like big public spaces. Jevin doesn’t like those spaces because- as we learn in his story- he hates his body and constantly feels different and judged

Speaking of Jevin’s fic, in it Wels says “we all have our own demons” and Hypno says “your brain has a way of distorting the world against you,” both of which are foreshadowing their own stories later on

In Cleo’s fic, False tells her “I’d give you all the time in the world if you needed it.” This is a direct quote of what Xisuma tells False in her fic, showing how what Xisuma told her and how he helped her really stuck with her and how she wanted to help Cleo in the same way

Yes, I do have the fics for Pearl and Gem planned out. It might just take a bit before we get there

Many people noted that ‘Zed’ was acting out of character in Hypno’s fic, but eagle-eyed readers may have been able to figure out that it was actually Ex before the reveal because Ex (under the disguise of Zed) tells Hypno in chat “you need help and I can’t be the one to give it to you” which is very very similar to when he told Zed in his fic “You need help from people who can give you what you need, constant support and love. I’m really not in a position to be that friend for you.”

The whole thing with Helsknight’s first episode did actually happen in this AU, it just never made it into the main series because no one used the code during it. The reason Wels didn’t use the code during it was because he was scared that no one was going to answer if he did, just like last time. This is also why Wels is so quick to trust Ex, because he thinks Ex is Xisuma’s Hels equivalent and Hels hermits are basically the darkest, most hidden away part of a person’s mind. Wels thinks X is the best person he knows, and there’s no way X could be that evil, so Ex can’t be that bad himself. Neither the assumption that Ex is a Hels Hermit, nor the assumption that Xisuma doesn’t have dark, twisted thoughts is correct.

Here are some alternative versions of stories that I almost wrote before I changed them for whatever reason: Keralis’ was going to be about him feeling like the other Hermits assume he’s stupid and getting upset by this before I fully started fleshing out the Ex storyline and decided to link it in, Scar was going to be the Vex fic instead of Cub, False’s was about her getting struck by lightning and nearly dying during MCC training and Cub having to use the code for her then feeling guilty about what happened in a two-parter (this idea later developed into Joe’s and Cleo’s), and Hypno’s went through many changes, first being about him feeling forgotten and alone because of a prank someone played on him, then being about him having a psychotic disorder and experiencing depersonalization and derealization

The reason Beef’s fic went how it did was because I knew I wanted a Canadian to get hypothermia for the irony but I had already picked Etho’s prompt so it ended up being Beef, which I think is hilarious

And in Beef’s fic, the reason he says his favourite song is Here Comes the Sun by the Beetles is because of the lyrics “Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter, Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here” and “Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting. Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear.” Think of this as gentle foreshadowing from me that everything was going to be okay by the end: the winter may have seemed cold and lonely and almost deadly for Beef but the sun was going to eventually come and a happy ending was on the horizon

3rd life is canon in this world but because it’s a permadeath AU, instead of it being a murder game, it’s essentially a giant game of lazar tag

My favourite fics in the series are Beef’s (was super fun to write) and Mumbo’s (still relatable af and a message I often have to remind myself)

I have only recently got into the ace attorney fandom, and this story was the first story I read, and I feel spoiled! I absolutely loved every chapter, so I'm gonna word vomit here and tell you everything I love about this!

Considering the fact that nick didn't have any prominent figure in his life, it makes sense that he would look up to gregory so much

THE RELATIONSHIP THAT MIA AND NICK HAD WAS PRECIOUS AND DESERVES MORE THAN WHAT THE FANDOM GIVES THEM

"Larry’s arms wrap around him, squeezing almost too tight" People forget that Larry and Phoenix were good friends too, and Larry would help his best friend

"Nobody believed him, nobody but Mia" Maya is what Phoenix is to Mia and I adore that

"He wishes, desperately, that he’d said it while she was still alive. I loved you. For everything you did." Not you absolutely breaking my fucking heart

Also the first AA game felt unnatural in the sense of how seemingly unaffected Phoenix seemed at Mia's murder so I'm really glad you wrote it this way

my main thoughts were "holy shit phoenix must have been feeling awful." like to learn that you were in love with a person who turned out to be a murderer but then not a murderer cuz everything you felt about that was real and just...... it must have hurt. Like to learn that the man you love was falsely led to believe that he was in love with a person he rarely met and then learn that his ex who is not murderous might still be in love with him because "that was real. that part was real." like damn. people just gloss over this

New ask game: Tell me about the last female character that intrigued you & why!

oooh, this is hard. depends on what you mean by last and what you mean by intrigued?

last female character I wrote a new fic for using a new side I hadn't explored:

blair waldorf. there’s something about growing older I think, where in your early twenties you’re trying to process the trauma of your teens while still letting go of maladaptive coping mechanisms that then get you into your late twenties where you get to review your life and the damage that you inadvertently caused. the guilt that arises. the re-learning. i think 2022 blair, just in her 30s, would have her worldview entirely changed. her entire canon arc is rooted in deep, deep misogyny that ruins her life and makes her ruin others lives. the way that she would change and grow as an intellectual and resilient female character is just fascinating to me, and while it may be because i’m old af and blair is my age canon show wise, but i desperately need to have more fic where she’s in her 30s and contemplating her past she no longer relates to.

Last female I thought should be interpreted differently because of their complexity:

elena gilbert. i’ve been doing a rewatch of the show as i go along and trying to piece out what her actual story is outside of the vampire drama, and while her arc is arguably a tragedy; she instead gets written off as an unlikeable villain. If not in season one, because of being a main female character, then immediately when she becomes a vampire and no longer behaves in the way she did as a human. she’s written off as selfish when she’s human because she keeps vampires around, despite the fact she’s a seventeen year old girl who has nothing to latch onto while navigating being an orphan, a parent to jeremy, a coach to jenna and then alaric... and then we find out that because of her very existence, the people she loves are in danger. as if she didn’t already blame herself enough for the deaths around her. as if she wasn’t already suicidal. as if she wasn’t always wanting to die and to make up for the fact that she didn’t die while drowning with her parents. i just?? and then the viewers blame her vam.pire-self for not being more nurturing, caring, or maternal. why would she be? where did it get her? vampirism. and wouldn’t you know, when she’s suffering the curse, who appears to say they’re disappointed in her? her mother. she is meant to let that maternal side of herself go because it can’t coexist with the urge to kill someone.

hi popcorn, do you have some fluffy ideas or headcanons about jon-dany and aegon-rhaenys if rhaegar had survived the trident and they all 4 were raised happily in red keep. Ofcourse it would be 1000 time better if you wrote something about them but assuming you will be quite busy with your current fics, could you just share some ideas about these 2 couples which you wanna read. Also maybe about ashara-elia as well in case you like this pairing.

I have to confess that although my heart goes out to the horrible deaths that Rhaegar's children suffered, I am not really interested in them as characters nor for the potential they could have had, sorry 😬 an AU where Rhaegar survived in the Trident also wouldn't be of interest to me, no. Concerning Rhaegar and Lyanna the only AU that would interest me would be one in which he doesn't marry Elia. No hate to Elia, please, I am just not a fan of either polygamy (especially one dude with multiple women because I find it f_cking rich, and yes I do realize Aegon I had two wives, thank you, that’s something for me to deal with) or arranged marriages such as the one they had and I really feel for Elia that she did seem to really love Rhaegar but the feeling wasn’t very... mutual I would say. I am not a fan of this dynamic and of the women ALWAYS getting the sh:t part of the deal. 

As for that pairing (Elia/Ashara) and any pairing really, I do prefer sticking to canon-only pairings where asoiaf is concerned. I mean I might make some exceptions here and there, but I just cannot be invested in pairings of very minor characters that I don’t really care a lot about *shrugs* Again, nothing wrong if anyone does, it’s just not my cup of tea.

Concerning Dany and Jon, I really like the choices of the main asoiaf series especially in regards to Dany's story so I wouldn't want to change it, at least not how she became the Mother of Dragons. If I did write an AU it would only focus on Dany/Jon and I would probably just make Dany go to Westeros much sooner and meet Jon a lot sooner as well. This would be for two main reasons:

1- To spare her the cancer that was Hizdhar and ANOTHER arranged marriage like George... enough is enough! Like no! Wasn't her marriage to Drogo enough?! Can't Dany just be happy?! I just hate arranged marriages so much... and Hizdhar is such a f_cking cancer to her life I just... I want to k:ll myself when I image our queen with him!

2- I would never have the capacity to resolve her plot as is in the books, like I have no idea where Turtle Man would be going with that - I use conditional and not present because he ain't finishing the books so it doesn't matter. #LOL

I would have her maybe go to the North sometime Robb is defeated, maybe she hears word about Maester Aemon and she wants to meet with him. Like we DESERVE a meeting between Dany and Maester Aemon - GEORGE YOU POS - that canon denied us! And it would be there she and Jon would meet and that sparks would fly!

They would talk of how Alysanne once visited the Wall, and about the Pact of Ice and Fire, how the North stood by the Dragon Queen (aka Rhaenyra Targaryen - green fans and H*O cry) even after she died... but then Dany would harden her heart and remind him of how his "father" fought against hers. And I know she would LOVE finding out he was a Targaryen, that she was no longer alone in the world. That a piece of her brother, that she had never met, lived on <3 and was there with her. (and that her baby dragons got a father to put down some much needed discipline! I am kidding)

*Me being romantic AF* (Please excuse me I have no idea how to write Jon and I know this sucks)

Jon looks at the Queen, ethereal in white furs, with the moonlight on her hair. He wonders how it would be to stretch a hand and to touch the melted silver of her mane. He might have done so before he was a sworn brother of the Night's Watch, was he just a bastard boy. Alas, she would still be a princess, a queen, too far from his reach. And in either case, Daenerys Targaryen, young and innocent as she might look, was no maiden. 

In some ways she lived a hundred more years than him even if she was younger, having yet to count her sixteenth name day. Were half the tales true and though small and frail as she looked, she had none of Queen Naerys and all of King Aegon the Dragon. She would like put Daeron the Young Dragon to shame and somehow the thought made Jon smile.

This is the best I got which still sucks 😬 oh well... I will “keep trying” (Hightower, 115 AC)

Also Dany is the one true queen, and I accept no AU where she is not 😌 Dany >>>>> Everyone else.
