Dog

She is very shy and has to be encouraged to come out of her crate and sit with us. Follows commands very well and walks good on a leash. Extremely attentive and likes to just watch us. I have never in my life met a dog like this and my brain is very confused.

We got her yesterday from our local APL shelter and they warned us she’d probably just hide in a corner and stare at us and not eat for a few days. Instead, she lays in her crate or on the floor and watches us, loves to go for walks, and ate the very first night she was here! From what they said at the APL she’s connected with us faster than anyone else she’s been with. She has a leash on in the house until she gets used to us in case she tries to bolt out the door or something (we take it off at night when she sleeps in her crate).

We kind of get the feeling she’s been abused, or at least neglected, and she reminds me and my parents a lot of our cat Sid, who came to our house in a similar state (not that you’d know it now with how happy he is). We’ve decided to name her Nia, after Nia in the Wingfeather Saga, which was actually my mom’s suggestion! It suits her, somehow, and I’m hoping it helps make her braver, because I’ve never had a pet who didn’t take on SOME of the characteristics of whoever I named them after.

sometimes I randomly think about the time a girl posted in this girls only Facebook group I’m in telling everyone how she broke up with her boyfriend and he lied saying that he lost the spare key she gave him, only to then break into her apartment when she wasn’t home and steal the cat they’d adopted while they were together, but then he denied having done this and she didn’t really have proof that he took the cat since he wouldn’t let her come into his place and look for it. And then another girl saw this post and knew her ex-boyfriend, and she was like “girl. I used to hook up with your mans back in xxxx and I still have his number. If you want, I’ll hit him up and get him to invite me back to his place and see if your cat’s there.” And the OP was like “bet.”

So this woman hit up homie dog, asked him out for drinks, went home with him, slept with him, and then woke up in the middle of the night and TOOK THE CAT. Like she had only said that she would confirm if the cat was there but then she took it upon herself to steal this woman’s cat back. Like she full on Trojan horsed this man and then hit up homegirl like “I got the goods. Where you wanna meet.” And then the two of them posted a photo of them together with the cat to the group.

And I just think women supporting women is so beautiful.

I like to imagine Marcille deals with her grief of outliving Falin (her wife) and Laois (her platonic soulmate) by looking for new friends that are just as weird/obsessive as the Touden siblings. Through this process of finding generations of weirdos she starts to notice genetic patterns and similarities to the point that she "discovers" autism. She names it Touden syndrome though.
