Okay but why is nobody talking about how this was an overt attempt at flirting by Galinda right out of the gate? Like??? There is no non-flirting reason for Galinda to be doing this here — she's going out of her way to try and look pretty FOR ELPHABA. Like Galinda went from 1.) stealing glances at Elphie, to 2.) opening the door and being too stunned for a second to remember to let Elphaba enter the room, and here 3.) getting defensive about keeping the balcony door open for seemingly no other reason than "watch how pretty I am when my hair is blown by the wind, new girl that I definitely don't have a crush on!"
