Rosalina's Heavily Implied Divinity

Rosalina is a Demigoddess.

I know fans tend to debate this, but I'm not just trying to glaze her, she genuinely fits the definition of a demigod.

A demigoddess is:

A mortal...

...raised to divine rank...

Seems to check out.

But how do we know she's of a divine rank and didn't just become more powerful? What makes her part-god?

Well, 1 - she's literally immortal.

And 2 - the definition of "god" that applies here is not the definition that applies to God in Christianity or other monotheist religions:

So, by this definition, a superhuman being that is worshipped as having power over nature is a god. A moon god is even used as an example, so celestial objects are fair game.

Power over nature...

You could also argue that she "has power over" the Lumas (who are literally baby stars, and hence a part of nature), by being their mother.

OR you could argue she "has power over" the cosmos in general, in the sense that she's in charge of it. I'm not just referring to her choosing to watch over and protect it, according to Nintendo she literally rules over the cosmos.

Rosalina is also one of the only characters who remembers the events of Super Mario Galaxy (other than presumably Mario himself, who probably only remembers because Rosalina protected him from the blast that kickstarted the recreation of the universe to those unfamiliar with Mario lore, yes that happens).

I think calling her omniscient is a stretch, but this clearly shows she has a much higher awareness of reality than almost every other being in the universe.

And while I think there are better fitting words to describe how they view their mother than "worship", the Lumas clearly revere and adore Rosalina. They even make Mario do a "test" to see if he's "worthy".

Even her signature phrase "May the stars shine down on you" sounds purposefully similar to "May God bless you", the stars being God in this case. This makes sense as stars being considered gods or at least some sort of divine power is pretty consistent across the Mario universe. So much so that their essence is repeatedly used as a way of providing life, energy, and strength to the people of the Mario Universe:

And we all know Rosalina canonically has Star Power within her, as seen in Super Mario 3D World when she does the spin from the Galaxy games innately, whereas Mario needed a Luma to do it (hence implying she might be part-Star/part-Luma):

If Rosalina was born human but grew into a being with divine power...what could that possibly make her other than a demigoddess?

Even if you still don't think of her as one, she's still an immortal superhuman sorceress with power over the stars that can protect people from a blast that might as well be the Big Bang:

Galaxy's official guide even says Rosalina sends Mario into a "bright light" afterwards, I mean come on that's the closest you'll ever get to saying "Heaven" without saying "Heaven".

At that point, in my opinion anyway, to acknowledge her as anything other than a demigoddess (at least) is a distinction without a difference.

Sure have!#I forgot how long it takes for Chimera Falin to come into play.#I still really love my 'better drawn' art of her - unfortunately it was several weeks too early for the anime only folks.#Slowly getting the hang of drawing Laios. I don't know why I struggle so much but I am getting...somewhere.#Meta time: God damn I love how the chimera shows off the expertise and gap between Kabru and Laios.#The truth is: they are both *right* and they are both *wrong*.#This creature is a combination of monster and human and they only have the skillset to deal with one of those.#Kabru goes for all the human vitals - but she isn't human.#Laios tries to approach her as a monster and is struck down by the humanity he sees in her.#She is something new that defies what they *both* understand about the world. And that makes her such a perfect antagonist.#The damsel was the dragon all along!#...She is really so cute though. Terrifying! But adorable. I am so excited to see the boom of fanart for her.
