au by @avis-fictional-world
so as we all know, I wanted to play with some DFO with this au and I couldnât help but imagine that mermaids lay eggs (like fish) and therefore, when the egg(s) hatch, THEY END UP BEING SUPER SMALL AND BABY. This is part two of that post
so I did a newborn baby Izuku with his dad :>
HE SO TINY.
And takes MUCH after his uncle (Yoichi) :>> he looks adorableeee
I also sort of wanted a chance to sketch out AFOâs tail more.
I sort of feel like heâd have a lot of spikes/extra fins on his tail
I really like how his tail turned out, but yeah
I redrew it like 6 times over the course of the week.
I like how Izuku got some of those feature as well, with his own lil fins/spikes
he just looks bombastically adorable âșïž
thanks Avis for this au
I just love it, lowkey obsessed if you havenât realized đ
definitely check out @avis-fictional-world for her au ofc, itâs originally hers and I am SO HOOKED.
(edit; as it turns out, in her au she also made AFO with extra fins and extra shark looking. So.. yeah.. đ)
(double edit: check out her commissions! :D )

Undyne and Alphys are away for a week and so they leave their child to the skeletons. The kid took everything after Undyne/US Alphys and can't stop putting themselves in danger. How goes the week?
Undertale Sans - That's fine. No that's not. He wanted the kid to spend their energy outside the house after they broke the literal table in the living room, so he took them to the park. Except now they're gone. He stopped watching them for ten seconds to answer a text and now they're not here anymore. Sans is freaking out, teleporting from place to place at a crazy speed to find them, but they're just gone. As he's mentally trying to convince himself to call Undyne and tell her the news, he spots the child in a tree, clearly very amused by how fast he gave up. He swears they're going to give him a soul attack.
Undertale Papyrus - "YES UNDYNE JUNIOR I CAN SEE YOU EATING ROCKS. ONE IS ENOUGH THOUGH. NO! NO, DON'T DO IT! NO!" And that's how Papyrus ended up at the hospital at 3 a.m. after his niece filled their stomach with rocks. Papyrus can't wait for their mothers to come home. He likes children, but that is no child. That's a walking health hazard.
Underswap Sans - He thought he could tire them by jogging in the park. But that's three hours now and the kid is still not tired. Actually, they're as good as new. Him on the other hand is pretty sure he's about to pass out from exhaustion any second. You know it's bad when even Blue can't keep up with you.
Underswap Papyrus - The worst mistake of his life was to ask the kid to cook with him. He doesn't know what happened, but now his kitchen looks like a crime scene. There's chocolate everywhere, even on the ceiling, and now his oven is making weird scary noises like it's about to explode. The worst part is that he has no energy left to clean that mess. Please someone save him.
Underfell Sans - He's losing it. He hates Undyne to begin with and he doesn't know why he said yes, but added to that, her kid is horrible with him. He swears Undyne told them to disrespect him because there's no way they're not a bully to him on purpose. His life is hell, the kid is not listening to him at all and at this point, he doesn't care if something bad happens to them. Except he does because Undyne is going to kill him otherwise. That's the longest week of his life, he's never doing that again.
Underfell Papyrus - Edge is not safe. He feels unsafe in his own home. The kid won't stop attacking him randomly. So far he has three serious bites on his arms and ankles and got stabbed three times in the back. He complains to Undyne every evening, but Undyne just laughs at his face saying he can't possibly lose against a six-year-old kid. But she doesn't understand. That's not a kid. That's a shark. He's scared he might lose a finger feeding them. They know he's scared of them. Please. He wants this to end.
Horrortale Sans - A kid showed up randomly one day saying they're Undyne's child they left Underground and they want their revenge. Oak slammed the door in their face and went back to sleep lol. Yep, he's not dealing with that.
Horrortale Papyrus - That's not Undyne's kid. He's pretty sure of it. First, where did Undyne get a kid Underground? And second... They're not blue? And Undyne is dead? Is he homing a random monster child only out of guilt? Who's that kid anyway? Wait, but wouldn't Undyne lay eggs? Uh. Maybe they're really her child and just hatched when they left? But who's the other parent? Can Undyne use parthenogenesis??? He's pretty sure Alphys died in the first two years of the famine? Willow is having an existential crisis. Surely Toriel is old enough to know if fish monsters lay eggs. That's going to be an interesting conversation.
Swapfell Sans - He's having a mental breakdown. First, he found out the kid is nocturnal. Except he works really hard during the day, and would love to sleep during the night you know. But apparently, they don't know that. Next, they thought it would be fun to transform his couch into a hedgehog by planting hundreds of spears in it. And now they have replaced his coffee with paint and his precious baby coffee machine is not working anymore, which means he turned into a grumpy old man all day. Nox will never recover from this he thinks.
Swapfell Papyrus - Rus is desperate. Ok, Rus wanted them to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor because he kinda forgot they needed to sleep. But that's not a reason to completely block him the entrance to his own room. Rus tried everything to get them out: promising to go to Disneyland, eat fast food for the rest of the week, and even for him to sleep in the sleeping bag, but the kid won't come out of his room, which is now locked. Rus doesn't know what to do anymore. He has been defeated.
Fellswap Gold Sans - He never wanted to take care of that demonic child in the first place so it's not his fault. By that I mean he kinda threw the kid in a dog house outside out of rage and let them spend the night there. The kid thought it would be fun to go into his closet and cut all his handmade clothes with scissors. Wine did all he could to not kill them and decided to put them outside for their own safety. He feels so mad every time he looks at them now. The worst part is that they clearly don't regret anything, even taunting him from the window. Wine is holding his murderous instincts so bad he's shaking. He holds them back for when Alphys will come back. He's going to kill Alphys he thinks. He needs to evacuate the pressure somehow.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - So the kid found out Coffee spends a lot of time in the closet in his room... And so they put a padlock on it, locking him inside. Coffee is having a panic attack, banging on the doors and screaming for help, completely forgetting he can just teleport out of here. Once free, Coffee refuses to tell the kid a word and lets Wine take care of them. He doesn't like them he decided.

funny headcanons for the Penas? please!
Ask and you shall receive:
Javier threatens the kids with kissing their mom in front of them if he wants to make them follow orders and behave. And he says âAnd Iâll do it again!â whilst Lucas and InĂ©s yell out in disgust.
Javier and Inés always get too invested in games. Lucas and Wife sit back and watch with raised brows, and Inés cheats. A lot. Javier lets her know he is goddamn law enforcement. This goes way into her adulthood too.
Inés once got into the sugar bowl in the kitchen, and Wife found her eating from it with a spoon. It had indeed been suspicious that she had stopped her tantrum so instantly.
Javier once decided that he could make a homemade slip ân slide in the garden (after Wife told him no). It was a lot of garbage bags and dish soap, and ended in him just buying one like she had told him to.
Wife makes funny voices for the babies when they have yet to learn how to talk. Sheâll reply for them in a really scratchy voice that mostly reminds anyone of a pirate's parrot. Even if sheâs alone.
InĂ©s once cut her hair with Javierâs hair trimmer. She wore a lot of different hats until it had grown out enough to be styled.
Lucas once heard his mother call her period âShark Weekâ and he was terrified of land-crawling sharks until she realized why.
Wife enthusiastically screams the loudest of all the parents at Lucasâ sports events. Javier gets a little embarrassed, and sometimes kisses her to ground her a little. This doesnât help though.
Inés has brought in various kinds of animals with the intention of keeping them. She has also stolen an egg from the kitchen with the intention of hatching it under her bed.
Javier once picked up Wife after drinks with her coworkers, and she confessed that she had told them he was a secret agent for the government because she had been too drunk to describe his time in Colombia.
Javier imitates Wife in front of the kids and Wife lowers her voice to a gruff tone to do it right back.
InĂ©s once packed a little bag because she wasnât allowed something and decided she was going to run away. Wife walked around 30 feet behind her on the pavement, but she only made it down to the bus stop before getting scared and gave in to the invitation of coming back to the house and have a cookie.
Lucas likes twirling his motherâs hair around his fingers as a way of stimming to relax. One time after she had curled her hair for a party, Lucas carefully asked if it was his doing.

Combined together, Chapter 6: Is it a fish? A vegtable? A person? No it's a-
Shellington had begged the Captain that he would let him out during the nighttime to do some researchâhe just wanted to see the people during the night, not just during the day! It allowed for more through research, in his own words. The Captain was unsure at first, partially because Shellington couldnât really drive a GUP, (and ESPECIALLY not without supervision!) but Shellington insistedâhe just wouldnât drive one. He knew how to be safe!
The Captain was (understandably) nervous with the whole shark incident that had happened a week prior, but after a whole lot of pestering and maybe a little help with the persuasion from the Professor, he was permitted to go. He got all set up with the oxygen tanks, sealed up his helmet, and dove into the water. It was comforting to be surrounded by it again, and he swam out through the Octo Hatch. He wouldnât be out long, like he had promised the Captain. Of course, he looked at many things, took notes on his water-proof notebook and pen, (it worked surprisingly well! He was ecstatic at that) and it was intriguing how things acted differently when the darkness encompassed the already deep and dark ocean.Â
And, after a little bit of research, he headed back to the Octopod, (he practically had to tear himself awayâhe did really want to continue) as his oxygen was running low. Not dangerously, of course, (but, in all honesty, heâd totally forget completely and accidentally drown because he got distracted by some creature or something) and as he swam back, he saw something odd.Â
On the âlegsâ of the Octopod, he saw circular things, and so he, slightly confused, swam over. Putting his magnifying glass to his eye, and peered inside of the circular things. They were eggs, as far as he could tell. Looking back, he saw a few shark hybrids circling the ship, and he took it upon himself to take them. Plus, even if those people didnât eat the (slightly larger than usual) eggs, they would likely fall off as soon as the ship launched, anyways.Â
He swam inside, eggs clustered together in his arms. Tweak looked over to him from her games, an eyebrow raised. â...what are those?â she asked, the southern accent as prominent as ever. âNot quite sure,â Shellington said, looking down at the presumed eggs. âThey were latched onto the side of the Octopod,â he said. âI didnât want them to get eaten. Or shaken off when we launch.â he said, and Tweak shrugged. âFair enough, I âpose.â she replied, before returning to her game.Â
Shellington headed up, eggs in his arms, and placed them on the table. Given how they were more than likely fish eggs, (even if he wasnât sure exactly what type) he was sure theyâd be okay in open air for a minute while he tugged out the incubator, filling it with the same temperature of water that the sea water had been, (he had obviously taken the temperature during his research) and he placed them all carefully inside. And then, he watched, and eventually, he fell asleep, to his own lament later that day.Â
He had been shaken awake that next morning, âfive more minutes, mom,â he mumbled sleepily, moving his head to the side sleepily. âWake up, Shellington,â someone said, shaking him a little more, before Shellington sleepily raised his head. It was the Captain, unsurprisingly. âOh, hello, Captain. Apologies. Found..â he groggily motioned over to the incubator, âthese eggs. Theyâre really quite..â he yawned, âFascinating.âÂ
âI seeâwhere did you find them?â the Captain asked, helping Shellington up. He yawned once more, âOn the side of the Octopod. I couldnât just leave them there!â The Captain nodded as they walked out of the lab and walking over to the chute. âDo you know what type of fish they are?â the Captain questioned.Â
âIâm not entirely sure. Couldnât properly examine them, but theyâre bigger than any other eggs I've ever seen or heard ofâever.â he told him, and the Captain nodded, âThatâs very interesting, Shellington. Letâs get breakfast though, alright? Then you can figure it out.âÂ
Shellington agreed at the time, though he couldnât help himself, every night he just ended up studying and studying these eggs!
It had gotten to the point where the crew was a tad concerned about him. He was sure these eggs belonged to regular fish hybrids at first, but they were huge! Biggest eggs heâs ever seen or even heard of, and they didnât quite look like any of the eggs Shellington had seen in any textbooks. Very brightly colored, too. That seemed like a survival flaw, though, because if theyw ere bright they might attract predators more easily!
But he supposed they could be poisonous, (like Poison dart frogs) and if a predator were to sink their nasty teeth into the soft eggs that they could get sick. That was his main guess, at least. He couldnât really test it. They werenât poisonous to the touch, he knew that, (given how heâd picked them up with no problem whatsoever, although it was risky. He wasnât really thinking it through) and he couldnât really test if they were poisonous to the bite without harming them in some way or another.Â
So, instead, he waited, eager to see what would hatch out. The Professor hadnât known either. It was probably a new species!Â
And, maybe he was slightly neglecting his own health. Just a little. Maybe heâd fallen asleep at his desk, so Tweakâs contraption couldnât really launch him out of the bed he wasnât in, and heâd missed Breakfast. For some reason, no one came to wake him up, but they did bring down some breakfast. He was unsure who, but his running theory was it was either the Professor, the Captain, or Dashi.Â
As he awoke once more, dark circles under his eyes, the smell of breakfast greeted him once more. He looked over to the incubator. Nothing, yet. He quietly picked up his food, shoveling it into his mouth as he watched the incubator. Once he was done, it was back to research and notesâhe had a stack of books and studies and all of that jazz messily strewn on his desk, and he sifted through it once more. The eggs were so strangeâbig, round, colorful, some having some minor characteristics of some other fish but clearly not being those eggs because of the colors and size. He hoped that the incubatorâs water was at the right temperature, still.
Research, research, and more research and he simply couldnât find any answers! So, he stayed in his lab the whole day, skipping lunch because he felt he was on the cusp of an answer, but he wasnât. This absolutely, positively, was a new species. Inkling brought down dinner, (and it was a larger portion because Shellington had refused lunchââIâve almost got it, Professor! Canât stop now!â-- and he needed nutrients) and Shellington hastily ate it like a rabid dog.Â
He researched late into the night, and eventually, his eyes got droopy and his hands weak and his head rested in his arms.Â
Suddenly, as if he was dreaming, was that singing? He thought, blinking his eyes open, and slowly raising his head.Â
(this is a REALLY old drawing, (and plus, low quality!) apologies, but i wanted to chuck it in here anyways for funsies. might start putting art in these chapters more but we'll see).
He looked over to the Incubator, large eggs inside, and plucked one out, holding it to his ear. Yes, itâs certainly coming from the eggs, he thought, fascinated. Suddenly, the egg popped open, and insideâŠ
A small person, with a plant growing from their head and a fishlike tail. It was still singing as it had popped out, and Shellingtonâs surprise didnât dwindle as heard a pop, pop, pop, pop and a few more emerged! They were quite small, and Shellington held them all in his arms, and he was so happy because this was a new creature! It looked like they were hybridized with both vegetable and animal, so, âVegimals. Thatâs your species!â he said, carrying them over to a tank. â Jumping Jellyfish! Oh, Iâm so excitedâthis is fascinating. So fascinating!â he cried, and he watched as they all swam around. He grabbed a new notepad, (which he would later slap a piece of tape on and title âVegimalsâ) and scrawled down a few things.Â
Able to swim straight from hatchingâseem to be able to breath underwater
Seem to speak a foreign language from birth
Seem to have plants growing from their head
All of them have different hair colors!Â
He put a hand to his chin-names. It looked like they were all different species, and different vegetables, ( which he would later realize was extremely odd-this wasnât natural, at all ) so he decidedâwhat if, like he had done with the species name, he combined the names of both the fish and the vegetable?Â
That yellow one, the first one to hatch, seemed to be part Tuna, part turnip. âYouâre Tunip,â Shellington said, pointing to him. The newly named Tunip went up to the glass, part hand-part flipper to his chest proudly, âChiba Chiba!â and Shellington wondered if it was baby-blabber or actual words. Heâd figure it all out eventually.Â
The tiniest one, (to the point where he was a little concerned,) though he realized it was so tiny because he was part minnow! And part Tomato, of course, on account of the red and the shape of the greenery growing from his head. Shellington wasnât the best at fruits and vegetables, but he could tell that!Â
In the complete opposite, there was one with purple hair that looked like a ginger plant and a grouper fish! âPurple, your name is⊠Grouber!â he said, and Grouber did a little circle in the water, before popping back out. âChiba!â but it was so deep and gravely that it took Shellington by surprise. âI would assume youâre the oldest, but technically Tunip is..â he said, laughing a little. The last two were pink and orange.Â
The orange one was obviously a carrot, and what looked like a bass. âHm, I think.. Barrot, for you!â Shellington said, booping the little guy on the nose. He giggled, kicking back and doing a roll backward before swimming around a little.Â
And, last but not least, the pink one. âYou look like a coy and.. A- a radish, I think. So,â Shellington thought for a moment, âCodish!â he said. Suddenly, he realized he needed to tell the rest of the crew about this utterly exciting news! Immediately, he rushed over to the glowing orange button, and pressed it. Suddenly, that WOOP, WOOP, sound rang throughout the Octopod, and he said into the small mic, âEveryone, to the Vegibortary! Eer- um, the Laboratory!â he said, and he ran back over to his vegimals.Â
âThat wasnât scary, right?â he asked, and while Tomminow looked a little frightened, and the rest surprised, they were all alright. â...chiba.â Tunip said, and suddenly, the Captain came through the door. âShellington, whatâs going on?â he asked, and Shellington grinned. âLook! The eggs hatched!â he said, stepping to the side to allow a clear view. The Captain, adjusting his hat, looked at them, walking over and peering down.Â
Tomminow hid behind Tunip, and the Captain stepped back, not wanting to scare them. The rest of the Octonauts filed in after thatâKwazii was next, darting in and frantically asking what happened, and when Shellington explained he looked⊠disappointed? Did he want something to happen? But Shellington didnât really dwell on it, as Peso stumbled his way in, medical bag in his hand. Then, Tweak, sleepily walking in, and Dashi, earbuds looped around her neck, and finally the Professor, sitting contently on his hover-chair. âMy, Iâve never seen anything like them!â he exclaimed, and Shellington nodded. âIâve dubbed them the vegimals! â Shellington excitedly told them, and pointed to each one. âThis is Tunip, heâs a tuna and turnip, and heâs the eldest, since he was the first to hatch,â Shellington said, pointing to him. He waved, trilling happily.Â
âThis tomminow, since heâs a tomato and a minnow, this is grouber, as heâs a ginger plant and a grouper fish, theyâre by far the smallest and largest,â he said, tominnow hiding behind grouber briefly as he trilled, âChiba!â incredulously deeply, and he pointed to the pink and orange ones âand finally, Barrot and Codish!âÂ
The Captain nodded, âThis is very interesting, of course, butâŠâ slight concern washed over the Captainâs face. âYou need some sleep, Shellington.â he remarked. âWhat? But Captain-â the Captain shook his head. âNo buts,â he put his hand on the sea otterâs shoulder, leading him over to bed. âB-but the Vegimals, Captain-â and before the Captain himself could interject or Shellington could continue, the Professor did. âIâll take care of them, Shellington. Perhaps I can start to teach them how to read,â he said, putting a hand to his chin.Â
Shellington thought for a beat, and then, âWell, alright. Just.. be careful with them? Theyâre newly hatched.â he said, and the Professor saluted, âWhy of course, Shellington. Now, gather round,â he said, tentacles coming out of his back, scooping up all of the vegimals. âI have a tank in the library, donât fret,â he assured Shellington, who nodded. âEverybody off to bed, then!â the Captain declared, and everyone went their separate ways once more.Â
âLetâs get you to bed,â the Captain vocalized, and Shellington, lips pursed, grumbly sat on his bed. The Captain gave him a look. âWhat is it?â Shellington lamented. â In bed, Shellington.â the Captain said, handing him his nightcap. âI know otherwise youâll just go back to researching.â Shellington stayed silent. He couldnât really dispute thatâthe Captain had read him like a book. It was 100% true. He would.
So, Shellington clamored under the covers, and the Captain walked off, flicking the light off. And, it felt nice. Truly.Â
That next morning, he was launched out of bed, straight into his chair, as always. He rubbed his eyes, shifting his wonderful green nightcap off his head and trading it for his Octo-cap, slid off his slippers in exchange for his bright blue boots. He grabbed his satchel from off his chair, and immediately headed to the libraryâhe wanted to check on the vegimals, of course!Â
He noticed the vegimals, all adorable of course, sleeping on the floor. He wondered what they should sleep in? Obviously, they could all sleep in his bed, but he wasnât sure how thatâd work with the launching thing. They were part plant, clearly, so maybe just likeâŠ. In the dirt? He was sure heâd figure it out. Either way, he scooped them all up, shaking the Professor awake. âOh, hello, Shellington!â he said, adjusting his monocle and sitting up straight.Â
âHello, Professor. Just figured Iâd wake you, given itâs morning now.â he said. The Professor nodded, hopping out of his comfy armchair. The hoverchair couldnât be transported from the hq very easily, so instead he just had sitting places everywhere else and heâd have to walk for brief periods.Â
The two Octonauts and the five still slumbering vegimals made their way to the kitchen, and the dining room. Since Inkling hadnât cooked this morning, they were eating previously cooked food. Leftovers, practically. Everyone still seemed to enjoy it. Shellington woke his vegimals up.Â
He gave each of them, (still in his armsâthey likely were able to get tlegs, but currently, as babies, they only had mermaid-like tails) a fish biscuit. Tomminow only ate half of his, and Grouber demanded three more, and then he seemed satisfied.Â
The Captain coughed into his fist. âShellington,â âAye, Captain?â he responded. âI donât mean to be rude, but⊠What exactly will they do ? We canât really have them, ahem, whatâs the word,â Kwazii immediately butted in, âFreeload!â and the Captain nodded, â Freeload. Of course, I donât expect anything from them yet, as they are pretty young, clearly, but it wasnât planned to have five kids on the ship.â he said.Â
Shellington felt that was a little rudeâthough, to be fair, it wasnât unfounded. More mouths to feed could make things difficult. âWell, I think.. Maybe they could just, help around, you know? With the cooking, gardening, most things.â he offered. The Captain nodded.Â
***
The vegimals only really listened to Shellington. It seemed they could understand English perfectly fine, they just had difficulty learning it themselves. Like most fish hybrids, they were fast learners. Shellington was sure that if they were in the wild, theyâd have to fend for themselves completely without mothers so theyâd have to learn everything on their own. Therefore, if he was teaching themâthey had a guide, that meant that they could learn even faster!
And the fact that they had a language of their own straight from birth was fascinating as well. A series of chirps, trills, and just what would be considered gibberish to most. Not to Dr. Shellington, though! He was already starting to get what they meant, despite the fact that heâd only had them a few days. (He wouldnât say it aloud, but heâd kill for these guys despite only getting them recently)Â
Today, a cooking lesson was in orderâmainly directed by Professor Inkling. It was good they were learning these things, they could possibly take over completely one day. Once theyâre trained, of course. The Professor was rather old, so it was a bit rude to make him cook everything, anyways (even if he had insisted on itâhe just said the others could help at times).Â
âHow about you two mix this?â Inkling said, handing Codish and Barrot a bowl of unmixed ingredients. Immediately, Codish attempted to dip his face in, but Shellington stopped him. âNono, not like that. Here, like this â Shellington said, taking the bowl in his hands and (attempting) stirring the batter, some splashing on his face. He wiped it off with his pointer finger, licking it. âMmm, tasty. Now, you give it a try.â he requested, handing the bowl back to Codish.Â
Codish nodded sharply, stirring it super super faster, and Shellington stopped him again. âNot that fast, Codish⊠letâs have Barrot give it a try.â he said, handing the bowl to Barrot, who more calmly mixed it. âSee? Like that.â Shellington praised. âIâm sure youâll get it, Codish.â he said, turning back to the others. Grouber was currently trying to lick the spilled batter off the floor, and Shellington scooped him up. âDonât do that!â he said, placing him on the counter and looking around. He opened the fridge, taking out a fish biscuit. âHere, have that.â he said. Grouber gobbled it up.Â
Shellington ruffled his hair. Tunip was now intently listening to Inkling on what to pour in, (they were making multiple batches) and was mimicking him excellently. Shellington figured that heâd probably end up being the most responsible of the five vegimals. Tomminow looked confused, so Shellington picked him up, asking what was wrong. He was met with unintelligible gibberish. âHm⊠I think-â Shellington looked over and Grouber was trying to tip the batter bowl to drink it up, hands inside the bowl while Codish and Barrot were incapable of stopping him. âGROUBER!â Shellington scolded, and Grouber nervously got his previously batter-covered hand out of his mouth. Shellington didnât notice, but Tunip seemed to take note of that. He watched intently as his dad poured the batter, and shaped it into fishy shapes. He tried after him. It was a little wonky, to Tunipâs chagrin, but it was a biscuit. Shellington praised him nonetheless.
Tomminowâs effort, (after he was put down on the counter by Shellington) was worse, and yet Shellington still told him he did good. They were doing a lot better than he was expectingâthey really did learn quite fast!Â
The others had similar results to Tomminows, (Grouber was banned, at least temporarily from doing itâas the one time he tried he instead just ate it) where it vaguely resembled the fishy shapes, but wasnât as good as Tunipâs or certainly not the Professorïżœïżœïżœs. Professor Inkling ended upâŠÂ assisting with that after all of them had done it. Inkling put the biscuits in the oven, (Shellington said the Vegimals werenât ready for that yet. That could actually be, you know, dangerous ).Â
Once the biscuits were done, the Vegimals excited came with Shellington has he brought around a fourth of them to the hq. The 3/4ths would be saved for a later meal. Of course, all of the other crewmates said they were delicious, (Shellington had no idea how, but they were somehow perfectly tasty in every way) which brightened all five vegimalâs moods immediately. Afterwards, Shellington decided to do a littleâŠÂ studying.Â
The whole hybridization thing was never very⊠conclusive. Everyone responded to it differently. For some people, they were just always completely human, no matter what. For most, they usually stayed primarily or entirely human the entire time, (for example, most of the crewâbesides Kwazii, who always had feline ears and a tail, catty eyes, occasionally the nose and whiskers) and it just activated whenever something happened. For example, Pesoâs arms had turned into flippers and ears became covered by feathers when he either got nervous/anxious enough or when he was escaping from that tiger sharkâflippers were easier to swim with, after all. For Shellington, his hands and feet usually became webbed (or just fully turned into paws), otterish ears out of his head, and the tail to complete whenever he got in water. Same thing for his sister, Pearl, but she was primarily in water at most (if not all) times, anyways.Â
It was different for marine life, though. For example, with sharks (and practically all whales) they were basically mermaids, just usually with oddly tinted skin. That tiger shark that had attacked Peso and Kwazii had gray striped skin, after all. That was because the more human they were, the less energy it took up. For smaller creatures, though (and this applies to practically any insect or bug, as well) it takes up a lot less power to be fully animalistic, so they often are either fully animals or almost completely animals.Â
Depends on the person, in a lot of cases, though. JustâŠÂ less so with the majority of sea life. That was what Shellington knew. But the vegimals seemed and were, different.Â
For starters, they were combined not only with fish, but also various vegetables! Shellington had never even heard of a non-sentient combo before, let alone three things together. So, thereforeâthe vegimals were a mysterious, wonderful, anomaly. They didnât seem dangerous, of course, not what he was getting at, but he had a feeling they were the product of a much more recent experiment. Of course, the whole hybridization thing had been a result from a experience a long time ago, but this? Much different.Â
He needed to figure out one thing. At least to learn more about them;Â
Were they created by someone on purpose/someone in a lab?
Or were they just (affectionately, of course. Shellington adored the little guys) freaks of nature?
Heâd never seen anything like this before, so he was leaning more towards the first option. If that was the case though, who was doing these experiments? Maybe they had left branding of some sort on the vegimals? It wasnât uncommon for scientists to do so, so he checked all over all five of the vegimalâs bodies, but alas, nothing. Even when putting them in the water, âactivatingâ their fish tails, nothing.Â
Shellington was at a loss. There were no clear leads, anywhere. He would ask the vegimals, though for one, he still couldnât completely understand their language (he couldnât learn quite as fast as all of them) , and two, he found them as eggs. They wouldnât remember any of that stuffâthey hadnât hatched yet!Â
He closed his newly-titled notebook, ( The Vegimals by Dr. Shellington SeaOtter, as heâd called it. Maybe itâd become an actual book one dayâwith a little bit of revising and editing, of course. His thoughts were pretty scattered most of the time, and his handwriting wasnât usually legible to anyone besides him. He lived up to the â Dr â in his name) and he looked at the vegimals, who had all fallen asleep on his desk.Â
Smiling, he picked all five up, and put them in their tank. He wondered if they needed sunlight like regular plants or if they just ate food? Maybe a mix of both? Grouber certainly had taken a liking to people-food, but maybe sunlight (or at least the artificial version of it that they used in the garden already) would help fill them all up faster? Maybe that was why he was so hungry all the timeâhe was by far the largest, and not because of his liking for food. He needed sunlight, too. Shellington decided heâd test it in the morning, as he didnât want to wake them. Itâd be rude, he thought. Either way, he took off his work boots and cap (placing down his satchel on the back of his chair) trading them for his nightcap and slippers as he crawled in his bed.Â
That next morning, he woke up, dazed after being launched out. He held his headâhe still needed to get used to that bit. It was a bit dizzying, still. Even after a little on the Octopod,, he wasnât completely adapted yet. He got up, and noticed the Vegimals tank was empty. âVegimals?â he asked, looking around, and he was sent into a panic, and his breathing sped up and he held his chest, and he gripped onto his own wrists, and he found himself scared as all hell, and he looked everywhere, frantically. He mightâve been freaking out, shockingly. Pacing around, head in his hands as he thought, he considered the places they might be;Â
The library
The kitchen
The garden
None of those were impossible, running out, frantically looking left and right out the door, and he ran into the library. Empty besides the Professorâs massive collection of books surrounding him, and he considered maybe they were hiding behind the books, but that was silly, obviously.Â
Breath in, breath out Shellington, he thought to himself, but he mightâve muttered it. He met his own command, certainly didnât help though. Where was he going next? Oh, rightâthe kitchen. He ran down the hallway, jumping in the chute and heading to the chute, and there he was in the hq, and he just needed to take one more to get to the the the â what was it again? The kitchen, oh he hoped the poor vegimals were alright, he prayed to no god that they were okay and in the kitchen with the Professor, and he jumping in, despite the odd look from Dashi, (she checked the weather and everything before heading to breakfast) and he frantically glanced around in the Garden pod, and no, they werenât there. He was panicking now, his fingers clenching and unclenching and his shoulders up and he buried his fingernails in his palms, and he slid down the ladder into the kitchen, and he sighed of relief. The vegimals (and the Professor) were there, and they were completely fine. He was freaking out over nothing.Â
It had been a while since that had happened. A long while. He was often logical, and didnât freak out often, and if he did, he usually reassured himself quickly. It was perhaps because the vegimals were new, a completely unprecedented (and unpredictable) thing that had happened upon him and now he cared for them deeply.Â
He walked over, and he noticed Inkling barely needed to supervise at this point. He was just watching. Shellington glanced over to the Professor, who just shrugged. âI was sleeping comfortably on my armchair, and they woke me up, chittering on about something and led me to the kitchen.â he explained. Shellington nodded. It was great that theyâd practically gotten cooks, (and maybe eventually gardeners and just general assistants, given their want to help. They were more than eager to help with Shellingtonâs research when he mentioned the word) and now everyone could focus on their actual, technical jobs. Even if the Professor didnât technically have a specific jobâhe was just the founder, and practically a librarian with his massive collection of books, itâd be nice for him to not worry about that, anyways. Especially given his age. He was, by far, the oldest one on the Octopod. Shellington knew all of their ages because of course he did.Â
He was 29, Peso was 27, Nobody (not even Kwazii himself) knew Kwaziiâs age, but they guessed he was around 28 or 29, Captain Barnacles was 34, Dashi and Tweak both 28, and the Professor was another unsure one, but around 60-70.Â
Either way, he beat out the second oldest, (the Captain) by at least 26 years, (though honestly probably more) and he needed more rest then the rest of them. He wasnât going on any missions, anyways, but the Professor seemed content with that.Â
At the very least, the Professor wouldnât have to worry about cooking anymore.Â
The vegimals continued on with their cooking, then, all dashing around the kitchen. There was a flour spill or two, but it ended up being alright, and the vegimals had finished by the time everyone was up, sitting at the table for breakfast. Shellington wondered if thereâd ever be a time where he wouldn't watch them cook. Maybe. He didnât know yet. Either way, he walked over with the vegimals and their newly prepared breakfast, and everyone sat down to eat. It was really quite nice in all honesty.Â
Either way, Shellington ate up the food, as did everyone else as they all chattered. Apparently, from what he could gather from going to the table mid-conversation, Peso, Kwazii, and Barnacles were going to do another brief check-up mission. Since it was still so early, they werenât doing anything too serious yet. Shellington knew that would change about a month in, though, unless something big happened that they felt they needed to help with.Â
And, it was real nice, and Shellington was just happy about the vegimals. Really.Â
***
Tweak and Kwazii had some fights. They enjoyed âem, an easy way to get energy out. Both of them were often too energetic for their own good before bed, so, they had come up with a.. Routine of sorts. They had come up with it after that first time, they had a little chat, (âRematch, matey?â âI think youâll need more than one rematch, Kwaz,â â...Every other day?â âLetâs shake on it, pardner,â) and it had been invented. Both of them knew better than to actually seriously harm each other, at worst Tweak was left with a scratch or two on her arms and legs, Kwazii with a few bruises.Â
They were already pretty closeâeven if Tweak got annoyed at Kwazii, and Kwazii occasionally was a bit more than slightly rude back. Siblings, practically. And theyâd known each other for what, a couple weeks or months at best? It was really nice, in all honesty. Kwazii liked having someone to get out his energy with, and Tweak liked getting out her anger (even if she actually wasnât a super angry personâjust got annoyed at times).Â
And today was one of those days. Kwazii had flung himself down the ladder, landing on both feet perfectly, (likely on account of being a catâthey always land on their feet, after all) and Tweak was waiting, popping the rest of her carrot in her mouth. âSo?â she asked. Kwazii grinned, and ran towards her, arms outstretched as he tackled her. Now, he was on top of her, and she smiled back, wrestling him so he was on his back and her on top of her, now.Â
Kwazii grabbed her shoulders, slamming her on the side onto the ground, quickly jumping up, about to declare himself the winner, (he was a cocky guy) Tweak grabbed his ankle and pulled his leg out from under him, and his shoulder hit the rim of the pool in the launch back, and her groaned. âYeow..â he muttered, and his eyes fluttered shut. âYe win, mateyâŠâ he grumbled, and Tweak grinned. âYouâre never ganna beat me,â she said, but when she wasnât met with a rebuttal, she grew a little worried.Â
âKwazii?âÂ
â....eh?âÂ
âYou alright?â
Kwazii tried to get up, but ended up flopping back down. âYeowâuh, yup, matey,â he said, lying.Â
Tweak picked him up from under his armpits, and he mewled, tail still. Huh. Thatâs⊠probably not good she thought, and she carried him over to her room, placing him on the edge of it. â....we probably have to tell Peso about this, right?â she said. âNaw, naw, argh, I be fine.â he lied again. âKwazii.âÂ
âYea, matey?â âDonât lie.â â....mmmmmmkay, maybe it hurts a little or maybe it hurts a lot, butââ âNaw. I donât think Pesoâll mind. He mentioned at lunch he was ganna stay up tonight, anyways,â she said, and Kwazii groaned, getting up. âI can walk, matey,â he said, standing up straight, hands on his hips, and he groaned again. â...just canât use me shoulderâŠâ he groaned, and the two of them went up, (using the octo-chute, given how Kwazii couldnât use the ladder) and Peso was in the infirmary. Both of them, (silently, of course. They wouldnât admit it outloud.) were glad they werenât waking Peso up, and he jumped as they entered the room. âAa!â before blinking, squinting, and widening his eyes again. âOh, Tweak and Kwaziiâ um, uh.. WhatâreâŠ?â he muttered, confused and somewhat tired. âKwazii, uh, fell.â Tweak said. Peso, in his tiredness, didnât detect her lie, and Kwazii didnât correct it. Neither of them wanted a lecturing from the Captain (he hadnât done anything like that yet, besides when Kwazii ate a few too many cakes and threw up) so it was probably better for them to lie about that, anyways.Â
Pesoâs eyes widened, though. âFell? On what?â he asked, rushing over to Kwazii, adjusting his tilted cap. âMe shoulder,â Kwazii said, and Peso led him over to the examination bench. Tweak just stood awkwardly. She felt itâd be rude to leave, given how it was kinda her fault and all.Â
Peso looked to him for permission. âCan you remove your shirt?â and Kwazii went as pale as a ghost. Tweak noticed his silence. âI can leave thâ room ifââ she started, and Kwazii shook his head. âTis not that.â he said, and he, âfacing away from Tweakâ pulled off his shirt, and Tweak saw Pesoâs mouth gape wide open. She raised an eyebrow. What was so shocking? She walked over and suddenly, she knew why.Â
Across Kwaziiâs chest, under and over where breasts wouldâve been, were four large arching scars, and some smaller scars around, and it looked like he had gotten stitched up, and Kwazii looked a little nervous. âShark attack.â he said, and Tweak and Peso looked at eachother, and Peso faced back towards him. â...Kwazii, Iâm a medic. I know thatâs not from a shark attack.â he said. Tweak (obviously) wasnât a medic either, but even she knew it wasnât from that too.Â
âOkay, okay, I⊠well, I had these real annoyinâ lumps of flesh growin on me chest, and they made me feelâŠ. GrossâŠ. and so some people in me pirate crew at the time⊠chopped âem off.â he said, and Peso stared blankly as Tweakâs jaw gaped open. â....thatâs what you meant. On the form.â Peso said. Tweak blinked. âI- well, I think Iâll have to check those as well, plus your bruise from falling, just to check that they're not infected. How long ago did that get done?â he asked, and Kwazii shrugged, then winced. âI think⊠it be about a few years?â he guessed. âWe didnât be good timekeepers on that old ship.â he clarified.Â
âHm. It should be okay, then, if it hasnât been yet.â he said. âWe used thâ saltwater an the rum tâ make sure, I think,â Kwazii said and Peso looked horrified. Like his whole family had just gotten murdered in front of him. â....Please tell me you were unconscious..â Peso muttered, head in his hands.Â
âTHAT BE A OPTION!?â Kwazii asked, but in a yell. âShhâ we donât wanna wake the others up,â Peso said, and Kwazii nodded. âOh. Right.â Kwazii said, and Peso quickly wrapped up the bruise with some bandages. âUnfortunately, thatâs all I can do for now. Weâll need to tell the Captain about this in the morning,â he said, stepping away. Tweak and Kwazii looked at each other nervously. â..aye, matey,â Kwazii agreed, and Tweak guided him back to his room after Peso instructed him to sleep on his other non-bruised side.Â
Tweak headed back down, playing some games for a while before heading off to bed herself.Â
When Captain Barnacles went to breakfast that morning, he wasnât expecting to hear that his crewmate, Kwazii, had bruised up his shoulder falling (Though, honestly? He was sure there was more to the story then Kwazii just quote on quote, âslippingâ ).Â
âYes, he needs a little to recover. Fortunately, he didnât b-break anything or anything like that. Unfortunately, the only prescription I can give him is restâŠ. And some pain medication, if he wants it.â Peso had told him in the hq, right before breakfast. âHm. How long do you think itâll take for him to heal?â he asked. âUsually Iâd say a couple days, maybe a week at worst, but with h-him ? Wouldnât be surprised if he somehow got it, um, worse and had to wait longer. I have a feeling heâs not the patient type.âÂ
Barnacles nodded, and the two of them headed to breakfast together. Peso seemed to want to tell him something more, but Barnacles wasnât going to push him to. Could be another thing with Kwazii that Kwazii didnât want to share, (and Peso couldnât or at least shouldnât with doctor-patient confidentiality) could be something unrelated entirely. He simply couldnât know.Â
So, he ate his breakfast, (which was wonderful on account of the vegimals and the Professor) and he adjusted his helmetâs collar. Nothing of value or anything had actuallyâŠ. Happened, yet. And, Kwazii was hurt anyway, so he couldnât do any missions (Even the more âchillâ ones, as illustrated by the Tiger shark incident, in case it all went wrong). Barnacles knew they were stopping by a reef soon though, and he had a feeling some of them (namely Dashi and Shellington) would want to stop by. For Dashi, to snap a few pictures (her being a photographer was part of the reason she was hired in the first place!) and for Shellington?Â
Heâd obviously want to study the reef. Maybe bring the vegimals out too, let them.. Breath in? âBarnacles wasnât entirely sure how those guys functionedâ The nice, warm salty sea and look at all the pretty things and creatures. That was all. Barnacles was curious about exactly when theyâd get there, so he stood behind Dashi, âDashi,â he said. She continued looking at the screen, âYes Captain?â she asked back, hands intertwined in her lap and looking back at him. âWhen will we reach the coral reef?â he asked. Dashi turned to her screen once more, tapping on some things. âAt our current pace, as long as nothing goes wrong, we should be there in⊠about 17 hours.â she said, and Barnacles nodded sharply, saying, âWonderful, Dashi.â he walked away then.Â
He honestly wasnât sure what to do till then, but, miraculously, Kwazii approached him. âPingpong?â he asked. Barnacles looked to his shoulder. âYou sure you can-â âI be fine, matey!â Kwazii said, grabbing Barnacleâs wrist. He let him tug him along, and they went to the game pod. Kwazii picked up his paddle, both his hands clenched around it.Â
Barnacles picked his up as well on the other side of the table, tossing it between his hands for a moment before settling on his right. I didnât know Kwazii was left-handed. He thought, briefly. Kwazii bounced the ball, before sending it soaring across the table. Barnacles reflected it back without a second thought.Â
This went on for a little while, Barnacles doing it (somewhatâKwazii was shockingly good) effortlessly while Kwazii was clearly working up a sweat; even if he denied it, (âyou be goinâ too easy on me,â and he panted, âmateyâ) and eventually, even Kwaziiâs cat reflexes acted up, and the ball just barely grazed over the top of the paddle, and it bounced against the wooden floors of the game pod. Kwazii glanced back. And then back to Barnacles, who was grinning. â...It-â he started, then stopped. â...â Barnacles placed his paddle down, âNOPEâ re-â he breathed in, âRematch, matey!â and Barnacles shrugged, âAlright, Kwazii.â and picked up his paddle once more. And they played another game.
And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another.Â
Kwazii was just good at persuasion, thatâs all. Nothing more, nothing less. And, today was a designated âtravel dayâ, so he had nothing to do. Except it was getting late. He checked his octo-compass â 9pm. How did time pass so quickly? âKwazii, we must head off to bed, itâs very late.â Kwazii glanced around, noticing the darkened water. Did he really not notice that? âAw, how about one more game, matey?â he asked, pleading with puppy dog eyes (or kitty cat?) but Barnacles just shook his head.Â
âNo, Kwazii.â he said, walking off, and he looked back, Kwazii wasnât following. âKwazii,â he said, âI expect you to followâ he continued. âNaw,â Kwazii said, and Barnacles sighed. He walked over back to Kwazii, throwing Kwazii over his shoulder like a hunted deer. âHey-â he protested, and the Captain didnât listen for a second as he kicked at him, pounding on his back.Â
He made it to the area between their rooms, opening up Kwaziis, and placing the disgruntled Kwazii on the bed. He picked off his hat, placing it to the side. âFine..â Kwazii grumbled. Barnacles nodded. âExcellent.â and he headed off into his own room, putting on his pajamas and tucking himself under the covers. Heâd more than likely be tired that next morningâhe usually headed to bed a lot earlierâŠ.and with more food in his stomach.Â
And, eventually, Captain Barnacles was able to fall asleep, and soon wake up bright and early once more.
Dashi was excited to stop at the coral reef, she was going to take so many pictures of all of the different creatures and structures and just everything. Shellington had told her that it would be the vegimalâs first time seeing a coral reef, so they were excited too, with his explanations. Of course, he had said it all scientifically, so they didnât understand much of it; but, they were hyped nonetheless.Â
As the Octopod landed, Dashi stood up from her swivel-seat. She stretched, reaching her hands high in the air, bending her elbow and putting the other one through straight, and then swapped. She turned, the vegimalâs little faces plastered against the Octopodâs glass. And, of course ;Shellington was right there with him. He turned back to Dashi. âIâve never been able to explore a coral reef like this before! Scubaâd a few times, but, nothing like this!â he exclaimed excitedly, and he immediately rounded up all the vegimals, as they followed him.Â
They looked like they were trying to go in single file, though they were all wonky and mismatched. It was cute, at the very least. âI think everyone else is waiting in the launch bay,â Dashi said. Shellington nodded, gathering up all the vegimals as they all hopped in after him, and Dashi picked up her camera from the table. Sheâd grabbed it that night, and she swiftly followed after Shellington and his 17 (5) children.Â
Dashi was rightâeveryone was in the launch bay. âWeâve landed,â she said, and Barnacles nodded. âAlright, Octonauts, head into whicheverââ he started, and Kwazii immediately jumped in the GUP B before he could finish. â Kwazii. â âYeah?â âYour shoulder is still hurt.â he said, crossing his arms. Peso, (nervously) made a quick nod. âH-heâs right, Kwazii. You shouldnât d-drive, um, yet..â and he gulped after he finished.Â
Is he still scared of him? I assumed they had become friends after Peso helped him with that injury. Dashi thought to herself. Though, it seemed like Peso was scared of just about everything, so it was entirely possible this was just how he acted around anyone even mildly intimidating. (Even if Dashi herself certainly didnât find Kwazii like that in the slightestâ he, (with no ill intent) just seemed⊠kinda stupid, honestly. Not scary.)Â
Despite Pesoâs clearly anxiety-filled reaction, Kwazii groaned, front-flipping out of the GUP. He stood next to the Captain. âCap, I think yâ should try the GUP D.â Tweak said, pointing to the yellow oneâDashi remembered painting that one. It was bright yellow, and resembled a crab, (but kinda reminded her of a stingray, a little) and the Captain looked slightly confused.Â
âWhy is that?â Tweak walked over, patting the side of the GUP. âItâs probably one of thâ moreâŠÂ difficult ones to pilot. I figured that I shouldnât be the only tâ know how tâ drive it,â she said, and the Captain nodded. âI see. Iâll⊠do that, then.â he responded. He climbed into the GUP D, adjusting his long legs in the flatish GUP, before flashing a grin and a thumbs-up.Â
Tweak thumbs-upped back. âHmmâŠâ she put a hand to her chin. âDashi and Shellington, are you two good in the GUP E?â she asked. Dashi looked over to Shellington, Perfect! Heâs one of the only ones I actually know, and she was going to do that thing where they looked to each other and nodded, but Shellington didnât get the cue. âSounds wonderful, Tweak,â Dashi said instead. âOkay, one of the vegimals can come with you guys too.â
âThat leaves myself, Kwazii and Peso in the GUP A, plus the rest of the vegimals, of courseâ Tweak said, and the rest of the five jumped into the GUPS. Dashi lowered both her and Shellington, (who had his notepad at the ready) + the yellow vegimal, (she didnât know any of their names yet) in the GUP E into deep in the bay. The Octohatch opened, and the Captain (though a little wobbly) piloted the GUP D outside without issue. Tweak, Kwazii, and Peso piloted out easily as well. Then, it was Dashiâs turn. She did it with ease, and Shellington seemed at least a little impressed. Once they actually made it out to the reef though? He practically lit up, hands on his cheeks in excitement. He faced Dashi. âFascinating, isnât it? Oh, Iâm so excited to examine everything!â he said, and almost jumped out, but Dashi grabbed the collar of his shirt, âHelmetâ she simply stated. Shellington blinked in realization. âAh. Right. Oops.â he said, pressing on his collar, making the bubble-like helmet go up over his entire head.Â
He then jumped into the water once more, his veggie children following in after them. Dashi clicked her helmet as well, and she took a deep breath, grabbed her camera, and submerged herself into the deep ocean.Â
It was warmer than she was expecting, but still took a little bit of getting used to. She hadnât swam in a while. Sure, she surfed all the time, though that was all. She swam over, and her eyes widenedâit was beautiful. She raised her camera, and click! She lowered it, swimming closer. Shellington was examining some coral, vegimals circling him. âFascinating..â he mumbled, and Dashi snapped a picture. He frantically looked around before his eyes landed on Dashi.Â
âOh! Dashi, hello!â he greeted, giving her a quick wave, and all five vegimals mimicked it. âHi, Shellington,â she said back. âYou see, this coral-â he started, beginning to ramble. Dashi thought it was sweet how he liked to talk on and on about this stuffâyou could really tell how passionate he was.Â
Soon enough, the others were there too, Tweak and Peso coming up to Dashi and Shellington. âHello, Peso,â Shellington said. âWe should check around to see if any of the coral is sick,â Shellington stated. Peso seemed a little surprised at the suddenness, but nodded nonetheless. The two swam off together, (along with all of the still amazed vegimals) and now it was just the girls. âI hope yâ donât mind if I stay with you,â Tweak said, rubbing the back of her neck; and Dashi flashed a thumbs up and a smile. âI donât mind,â she told her, âIâll just be taking a lot of photos, speaking of-â she snapped a picture of a surprised Tweak. âHey! What was that for?â Tweak asked, not actually angry of course. Dashi giggled. âI need some pictures of everyone!â she said, and she heard a whooshing behind her, and she faced back, and she saw a fish hybrid quickly swimming past. âWonder why that oneâs in such a hurry,â she questioned, and then Tweak pointed, bunny ears sprouting from her head in fear, âPROBABLY BECAUSE OF HERââ Dashi spun around, and her eyes widened, and she raised her camera, snapping a picture as Tweak pulled her by her shoulders into a small hole (almost like a mini cave) in the coral. Â
Cramped up against each other, the shark hybrid, (Dashi was unsure of the type) looked at them through the hole. She flashed a toothy grin, before quickly swimming off and chasing some other snack. Dashi didnât notice how her and Tweakâs hands were interlocked.Â
âAh.. well,â Dashi started, fingers pressed against her helmet. Her bracelets moving a little in the water. âI think we should wait a moment.â Tweak said, and Dashi nodded. âAgreed. That shark girl could be faking us out,â she said, and Tweak agreed. They were silent for a moment, before, â...I have somethinâ I want tâ discuss with ya, anyways,â Tweak said. Dashi turned her attention to the rabbit hybrid. (whose ears were pressed against the ceiling)
âYes, Tweak?â she asked. âWell, I thinkâI think we should work on a project together, you know?â she suggested. Dashiâs eyes widened. âIâm no engineer, though.â âI know, but yâ obviously know a thing or two about camerasâand computers in general.â Tweak said. Dashi nodded. âThatâs true.âÂ
âYou see, I.. I like to take inspiration from nature, you know?â Tweak started. Dashi slowly nodded, unsure of where this was going. âAnd Iâd like tâ study termite mounds. From the inside. Thing is, canât quite do that given how big i am,â she said. Dashi confusedly nodded once more. âI was wondering if you could help me build a small camera to attach to a lilâ termite bot. Then I could look more easily.â Tweak finished.Â
Dashi wouldâve put a hand to her chin, but the glass of the helmet prevented that, so she didnât. She clapped. âI would love to.â She agreed, and Tweak grinned. âNow, letâs get outta here,â Tweak said, and they both clamored out of the coral.Â
The rest of the day was spent with them discussing ideas for the little termite-cam, and Dashi snapping picture after picture, and when they headed back, Tweak and Dashi had decided to get to work as soon as they could.Â
Soon.

Writing Monsters: Parasyte vs. Xenomorph
Monsters are fear. What do you want your characters to fear? And what fears do you want them to conquer?
On the surface the two fictional monsters seem very similar. Parasytes and xenomorphs are alien parasitic organisms, out to kill, maim, and otherwise wreak havoc. Predators on humans, too fast, strong, and sneaky for any ordinary soul to stop. But the ways theyâre used in their individual stories are very different.
Odds are anyone reading this blog is familiar with the xenomorph. For those who might not be, a quick recap. Sometime in the future, the human crew of a cargo spaceship finds a crashed alien ship, investigates, finds a long-dead alien pilot who died a gruesome death, and a cargo hold full of eggs. One of them hatches... this turns out to be Very Bad for everyone on board, with the possible exception of the cat.
The xenomorph combines the terrifying lifecycle of a tarantula hawk with the size, strength, and stealth of a tiger or great white shark. It hunts humans down... not to eat them, but to take them back alive to the nest to incubate more xenomorphs. So you get a two-fer of horror: being hunted down, and then imprisoned and eaten alive.
(Oddly enough this last is where my suspension of disbelief fails, no matter how much I root for Ripley in Aliens. You canât create new mass out of nothing. And you canât sustain mass on nothing. What are the xenomorphs eating to grow from chestburster to full size? What are the adults and Queen eating? Granted, later offspring can be eating leftover corpses of the victims, but that doesnât explain how the very first adults survive to get past larval stage!)
Possibly fewer of you are familiar with Parasytes, from the manga Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. I reccâ the anime Parasyte: the Maxim, I hope itâs still on Crunchyroll. (Thereâs also a new TV series coming out based in the same âverse, Parasyte: The Grey.) Short version: One still night, odd spores fall from the sky, releasing wormlike creatures that invade and take over human brains... and then people start turning up gruesomely murdered.
The fear a Parasyte evokes is not just a predator that wants to eat you, but body horror. (Oh man so much. Iâm warning you, it doesnât bother me, but....) On top of that, itâs the terror of, I thought that was another human being and it isnât. They could be anyone. They could be your next door neighbor. They could be you.
And worse, theyâre an intelligent horror. Yes, they have an instinct to devour humans. But they donât have to do that to survive. (Unlike xenomorphs.) They can choose not to kill. They can certainly choose to murder quietly, where no one else will know....
Two different parasitic aliens. Very different fears. The xenomorph, for all its alien features, is one more big sneaky predator on humans. Once we know itâs there, humans have tried-and-true responses to Things Trying to Eat Them. (Kill It With Fire being one.) The Parasyte, in contrast, brings up, how do you know whatâs human? What is a human? In the original manga a serial killer is recruited to catch Parasytes, and takes the chance to get terrified cops and soldiers to kill regular humans; while a Parasyte chooses to die to protect the human child she gave birth to. Which of these is the alien? Which is the enemy?
What fear do you want your characters to face in-story? Think of that, when you make your monsters.

Some character designs I made for an English assessment I am too proud of to abandon in schoolwork :)
Character names and descriptions under the cut
The main idea these characters are attached to is a point and click adventure game, where you (the blue-ringed octopus) solve the mystery of the plastic pollution in the reef.
Note: Each bio is written in the perspective of the main character, H. Losa.
Detective H. Losa
Species: southern blue-ring octopus
Bio: âAn up-and-coming, suave young detective who moved from his humble rock pool down south to the Big Reef. Avid mug-collector and assigned to the plastic case.â
Note 1: I really like this design. I think itâs one of the better ones Iâve made, really.
Note 2: His briefcase carries everything in the inventory. Originally it was going to be much larger, but I felt like it unbalanced the design.
Dr. Carrie Ginglymostoma/Doctor G.
Species: Nurse shark
Bio: âA GP working at the local clinic and the person who brought the plastic problem to my attention. Plastic bits have been showing up all over the place recently, and have even started to show up in her patients! She is a lovely person, she helped me when I got myself stuck in a shampoo bottle once.â
Note 1: I would imagine she would move very drowsily and just seem tired of it all.
Note 2: I like to think her glasses donât help at all, nurse sharks in real life have poor eyesight but she uses her barbels & other senses to navigate, she just thinks it makes her look smarter.
âCrusherâ Carcharhinus
Species: Great White Shark
Bio: âBig boss of the Atlantis casino down the shore from my office. He frequents Dr. Ginglymostomaâs clinic for the wound where his dorsal fin was and his fedora currently resides. Nobody knows his real name. The Carchar family run a lot of this part of town, most of the property is owned by them. He married into the family, partially for love, but mostly for power⊠Rumour says his dorsal fin was ripped off his body by a fisherman. Crusher looks intimidating, but heâs actually an excellent host! I just wish he didnât think Iâm a fry, Iâm well above the average size for my species!â
Note: I was originally going to make him very intimidating, but I couldnât stop laughing at images of great whites from the front. Of course great whites are very dangerous in the wrong circumstances, but I wanted to capture how silly they can look.
Melano Carcharhinus
Species: Blacktip reef shark
Bio: âCrusherâs stepson. He reminds me of me as a fry, scared, terrified and a little wimpy. Crusher seems to not like him much. I feel for him, poor kid just doesnât seem cut out for the family he was born into. Iâm glad he has one. I wish I knew my parents, us octopuses tend to die as soon as we mate. Which is why Iâm indefinitely a bachelor.â
Note: I was going to give him a little casino outfit, but clothing a shark is as difficult as it sounds. Also, I was running out of time. These were all made in like an hour.
Note 2: Iâm aware octopus mothers donât die as soon as they mate, but they do die shortly after their eggs hatch.
#ocs#nurse shark#blacktip shark#blue ringed octopus#great white shark#I'm sorry if this is cringe but i also dont care#Halfway through making it I realised I just made freddi fish

Ok, a few things:
1. Polite IS coolâŠ
2. Fonzie loves his teeth, and his teeth love him.
3. Where does Fonzie keep an extra toothbrush in his tight jeans?
4. Why isnât he brushing at home, instead of in a dirty public restroom like Arnoldâs?
5. Why are they enjoying it so much? The screaming of it all⊠I must be missing something when I brushâŠ
6. They both look like they are the last people in the world who would be having a discussion like this.
7. How do they know each other anyway?
8. Arthur is Fonzieâs real name, so shouldnât they call him âArtyâ?
9. When Fonzie was a baby, do you think he had the same âcool guy affectâ like he did in the show? AyyyyâŠ. (Two tiny thumbs up)
10. Why isnât there a âgrandma fonzieâ on the show?
11. Why was it normal to have a Martian from Ork come down and ingratiate himself into their lives?
12. Also, piggybacking off that last question, why was the Mork Martian speaking English, and able to nanuuu nanuu to them, and they didnât really bat an eyelash. I mean, Richie was the most accepting, even tempered person. If I were to have run into Mork in my home, I wouldâve probably not have trusted him because he was a man in a shiny space suit that came into my living room uninvited and talked too fast⊠Also, I think he hatched out of an eggâŠ
13. Why did Fonzie jump a shark?
14. There were a few Alâs on the show. Were they biological brothers? Because what are the odds of having a couple of owners of Arnoldâs named Al? And if so, why were both of the brothers named Al? Why werenât they Arnoldâs?! Or was it like George foremanâs family, where theyâre all named George but except theyâre Alâs? And why was one Japanese?
I probably have more questions that I may or may not pose here later, weâll see⊠because the whole Laverne and Shirley thing, and how they wanted people to think that âCarmineâ, the dancing crooner busboy at Laverneâs fatherâs bowling alley, was a heart throb, because to me, he was entirely too jazz hands-y and way too needy. When you canât go two minutes without tap dancing, singing to people who clearly arenât into it, doing cartwheels and round off flip flops trying to get into a show, any show, thatâs too much for me. Get another outlet for that business, ok? Why didnât he take up a hobby? Something cool, like fire swallowing?
George Carlin: um, Kari?
Kari: No.
Kari (cont.): Itâs like, âListen, Carmine, I donât own a theater, nor do I have any ties to Hollywood. Why donât you go shuffle off to Buffalo and take a connecting flight to someone who cares!â
Carlin: oh shitâŠ.
Kari: Or how about how Fonzie controlled inanimate objects and simple minded people with his snapping?! Yes to that! And what about the whole Joanie and chachi thing⊠Because did you know that they had to change his name in Korea cause chachi meant the chach area down there in the menâs Netherlands region?
And did you also know that I call it âchachiesâ when I have to quickly use the restroom after eating some fried, greasy, extremely spicy food, or something riddled with lactose. So, for example Iâll yell from the potty to anyone in the house within earshot, âI got the chachies!!!!â
Regardless of those unanswered questions, I liked that show, because although it was slow paced and slightly uneventful some of the time other than the shark, they sure brought the younger me some childhood âhappy daysâ. đ€·ââïžđđ€Ł
Carlin: you done?
Kari: not sure yet⊠ok. Now Iâm done.
Gary Marshall: hi, Iâm Gary Marshall. I wrote this crap, or, as kari would say, this âchachiesâ of a show.
Kari: No! I liked the show, Gar⊠it was a staple of my childhood. Itâs just that âChachiâ happened to be an unfortunate choice in names, thatâs allâŠ
Gary Marshall: See?! Sheâs not mean, sheâs only discussing the characters, not the actors⊠And I didnât know from Chachi when I wrote it.
Kari: well, now you do. And naming one of your characters after a peep is not ok to the Korean people.
Richard Pryor: Tell me about it. Try going through life being called âDickâ.
Kari: No! I call you, âRichard head, the eighth!â
Richard Pryor: you mean there were 7 other dicks that had the same name before me?!
Kari (to Richard) Yes. (to Gary Marshall): And Gary, the show is not crap. It made a lot of people happy. And nothing made with love, is crap!
Gary Marshall: thank you, Kari. At least I didnât write a sitcom called, âchachi has chachiesâ.
Kari: yeah! Cause noâŠ.
Gary Marshall: sheâs a good kid. Crazy, but good.
Scene.
Do you like my Fonzie painting I just got last weekend? Bruh! I fell out!

I'm sorry folks, I'm glad we're all enjoying the video but I need to put a disclaimer about it.
Is the Shark Video Cute?
Unfortunately no.
This was really irresponsible of Ocean Ramsay to do, and she keeps doing it. She's a well trained diver, and I'm glad she works in ocean conservation. That's great. The shark was sated/had been reported to have recently eaten and been in a docile state (they can often overeat since they don't know when their next meal is and they need a LOT of calories) so she was diving in a "safe" manner so to speak. But, as many marine biologists have already mentioned, you do not touch sharks.
You wouldn't pet a lion in the wild, now would you?
Do not reach out and grab their fin.
Do not caress them as you swim along with them. (Seen in the rest of the video she posted. The extended version has more divers and lots of petting/caressing)
They are not pets, they are wild animals.
This is not the first time Ocean Ramsay has dived with a large and gravid/pregnant Great White (important to note, they're also a protected species and shouldn't be pet off of that criteria alone), and it's also not the first time she's been told to stop. It's getting tiring. She constantly says stuff like "I was guiding her away from x/y/z" or "I was trying to keep space and gently pushed off"
Why shouldn't we pet wild animals or great whites?
At the top of the list, it's irresponsible and you could get yourself or others hurt. Many will emulate this behavior without looking to see if the shark just ate (which, even if it did, see how long it takes to get hurt if you harass it long enough)
Secondly you could hurt the shark. Many sea creatures, sharks included, have an outer mucosal layer on their skin that helps protect against diseases. Your sunscreen covered, scented lotion wearing, foreign bacteria having hand will mess up that protective barrier when you pet it. At best you'll scrape it and they'll have to build up again.
You can scare them off from the food source. This was by a whale carcass, and the shark in question is pregnant. She's going to need a LOT of food, but she won't risk it if a bunch of divers are out blocking her. She doesn't know if you're a friend or foe, and she may not be willing to find out. She might rather starve (in this case, she did at least feed, but she couldn't return).
Depending on the animal, you can guide poachers to prior undiscovered sites. A sea turtle specialist once talked about her experience posting an "egg watch" of sorts (she was looking after a nest site with a group) on social media, only to have someone use landmarks in the image to find the nest and attempt to steal the eggs (fortunately the person was found and the eggs were recovered) . She no longer posts sea turtle photos until long enough time has passed from the hatching event. Great Whites are a protected species, it takes 2 years for them to have pups. It's not uncommon for people who hate sharks to go out and murder for sport. Look at Florida and Australia for examples. That shark could disappear real fast.
Did I mention you'll inspire others to do the same? Because 60 people tried to emulate Ocean Ramsay in the following days. I can guarantee not all of them were as experienced. Luckily the shark was not in the area by that point.
Marine biologists are forced to come out of the woodwork and tell you why it's not okay, and we'll inevitably get people who want to argue about it, and we really just don't want to fight about it. We have to do crowd control every time and, personally, that's not why I got my degree.
That being said, scientists will interact with sharks and marine life to collect data. We are trained, we're trying to be the least invasive we can, and we're not doing this for the views. We're trying to find ways to reduce post-release mortality, or discover pupping grounds to protect them from human intervention. We're not out there looking to harass them for fun.
If you don't like what I'm saying, you can check out other Marine Biologists' takes here:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-18/conservationist-slammed-for-touching-huge-shark-off-hawaii/10725478
The article is from 2019, like the video, but the content is still relevant.
Ocean Ramsey and her team encountered this 20 ft Great White Shark near the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It is believed to be the biggest ever recorded

Royal siren erasermic family? They like adopt you after you hatch from an egg bc they found you or something idk and take you back to the castle and make you their little princess or something cute and fluffy like that.
YANDERE SIREN ERASERMIC FAMILY X BABY PRINCESS READER
Shinso was just out and about, swimming through some forbidden areas he wasnât supposed to be in, avoiding sharks, when he found an iridescent little ball under some rubble of a shipwreck, it made his gills tingle at the sweet aura that it emmited, he knew, that this creature, was something to protect. It was up until he saw something moving inside that he thought it was just some ancient treasure that wouldâve died with this ship, he examined it closer, squinting his eyes, thatâs when he realized, it was a Siren. A baby one at that, usually they hatched out of boring white eggs, the royal familyâs were gold, but a shiny color changing white that combated the finest of jewels? Never, this little pip was special, he could feel it.
So he brought it back home, through his âbalcony windowâ, debating wether or not he should tell his parents. As you know, he was somewhere where he was not supposed to be, and they would throw a fit. Then again, whatever this thing was, he couldnât just keep it to himself, something was living inside it, and he wouldnât know if something was wrong, so he has too. When he did, it came as a suprise that his parents werenât mad, they jsut kindof stared at the orb, inhaling the addictive scent it gave off, the three huddled around it, aizawa carefully picking the Small thing up, it was only about the size of a pumpkin, extremely easy to pick up, yet he could still feel the heartbeat of a creature inside, it just had to be one of the sirenfolk , there isnât any other explanation. He stared at it in confusion, noticing the small cracks staring to form.
Then a little hand popped through, and scared the shit out of all of them.
âââ
As it turned out, you were in fact a siren, a rare subtype of them, thought to have gone extinct long, long ago. The opal-looking scales that littered your arms and tail showed proof of it, this species were intensely more fragile, and weaker, thatâs why they went extinct, as they couldnât hear, and a small crabs pinch could cause major bone breaks, they were just too weak, yet so beautiful. Thatâs why they were coveted among the royal family. It only helped their growing obsession taht you were so cute.
It mightâve been an act of Iâmpulse, but they just needed to have you as their own, of course, their word is law, so they couldâve just kept you, but they felt the need to make it official, theyâd already had two pips, youâre just their third! It was simple, of course, you specific species could be born into sirenfolk families, it was just so rare that it had only happened once. You were just so cute, so fragile, just something so breakable, they just
H a d
To protect this tiny lil thing, it was instinctual to feel a protective pull over their little pups, and boy were they feeling that right now, you were special, not just any baby, but you were theirs. Their special little pup, nothing would ever lay a hand on you, ever. It had only be a few days, and word spreads through the underwater kingdom like a wave, from the servant maid who showed them how to take care of you, to the head maid, to a citizen, to the fisher, and eventually, by the end of the week, the whole kingdom was eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of their new princess.
And boy were they shocked to find out it was an opalite, the most rare of rare sirens in the world. Immediately after they had shown you to the world, sitting in a large clam as it was pulled by sharks, the citizens fell in love with you, maybe it was the fact that you were related to their beloved royals, maybe because the royal family would intensely glare at anyone who made negative comments, maybe it was the fact that a few of those people went missing, but who knows right?
You still hadnât been able to open your eyes yet, and you wonât be able to hear them for a very long time, your hands were about the size of aizawas eye, and you looked closer to a fish than a human, as you hadnât even developed your face yet, another plus to being the endangered species, note the sarcasm. And guess what? They found it so adorable, just their cute little baby, their little pup who canât even protect themselves from the water around them. They just loved every part of your little body, from your tails, to your tiny little hands, to your shiny gills. It was all just so perfect- you were so perfect, and you were theirs, they were gonna protect you at all costs.
So of course they did, you were just so tiny right now, they knows practically anything could hurt you, so they opted to be around you all the time, only leaving to hunt for humans that would suffice for their tastes, drawling them in, determined because of that little smile of yours. You motivated them to do it, they were doing this for you. It have them all a sense of pride to have you feel safe with them, to rite them you. On their own terms.
Eri was constantly around you, being that she was a young one just like you, and you were her little sister! So she wanted to always be around while you made those echoing gurgling noises, or flapped your hands around in the water, she didnât have responsibility in the kingdom yet, unless being cute is a job, so she can be with you jsut as much as she wants. Always sitting with you while you played with the floating pearls that they had arranged over your play area, watching you feel new things, holding you while you dozed off with adorable little bubbles, she always was with you.
Like now, sheâs been with you all day, giving you little snacks, glaring at the guards at the door who always had their eyes on you⊠creeps. The sun was almost setting, and when youâre low down in the ocean it goes pitch black after a little while, and thatâs when the jellyfish come out, tonight was one of the most special days out of the year in the northern oceans, the jellyfish festival, the one night a year when the rare white jellyfish would come out to say hi, leaving trails of shimmering sparkle behind them, painting the upper levels of the ocean a shiny silver. It just so happened that it occurred on your first birthday, a very small increment to sirens, as they live almost a billion years, but still a big accomplishment in their eyes. Look! Their little baby girl is turning one! How amazing!
âDo you see them hon? Look, theyâre just starting to appearâ Aizawa asked both you and eri calmly, swishing his hand through the salty water to pint at the new appearance of white and purple blobs, slowly flouncing their way overhead. Eri smiled up at it, her pointed teeth displayed in full view, her eyes shined at the view, not only of the huge jellyfish, but also at you, who was placed delicately in mics lap, sat up against his chest. Little bubbles escaped your mouth as you blew raspberries into the water, just making the family laugh.
âMm-hmmm! Look! Look! How pretty! I wanna touch em! Can I touch em!â She yelled at her parents, excitedly pointing towards the jellyâs floating towards the surface, her hair floated behind her as she swished around, shinsho just chuckled, knowing that she eventually would try to touch them, and get zapped, again, like last year, and the year before, and the year before.
âNo hon. Donât do that to us again, you wanna wish your sister a happy birthday? Sheâs probably really exited!â Mic cheered, distracting his daughter from touching the jellyfish, yet again, meanwhile, you were happily bouncing up and down on his lap, enjoying the freedom of your arms, swishing them all over the place, grabbing the beads around your neck, jsut anything.
âBut dad! Why not! Itâs not like itâs hurt me or anything Iâll be fi-â she begged, throwing her hands up in a small tempter tantrum, clearly forgetting her previous events of pain, and idiocy.
âNo- nope no no, we arenât doing this again, please honey, just please, remember last time, we had to clean up your wounds OUTSIDE-of water, you hate going to the surface remember? â
âYeah but-â she started speaking, but was soon cut off with a loud giggle, resonating through your lips, kindof rare for you, you hadnât been very vocal outside of a few gurgles here and there, so it had each and every ones heads turning. Thatâs when they saw it, your beautiful eyes, shin sing in reflection to the jellyfish. Those beautiful little eyes of yours mesmerized all of them, a pitch black (for protection from the salt), with a shiny silver-like pupal, immediately after they opened, a burst of color filled your vision. You giggled and clapped your hands together with a small toothless smile, watching as the floaty creates went overhead, glittering with the light.
The absolutely gorgeous splash above was admired by the family form their own viewing post, the blues and whites combined to make a heavenly display. You could feel the cool sprinkles of light they emmited hitting your skin, smiling at the feeling, you splayed your hands out and flailed them against the water.
âOhhhhhh- oh wow. Honey! Honey look! Her eyes opened! Look at taht! Arenât you just so magical! Look at you, my little pup.â Mic smacked Aizawa over the chest multiple times, pointing at your clearly opened eyes, you just remained oblivious, staring up at all the new things around you, like.. everything! He turned you around to face him, letting you actually see his face for the first time, taking in the long yellow hair, the (also) black eyes, the ethereal face dotted with shiny yellow gills, him, you could see him!
âSheâs developing smoothly, Iâm glad. Awww, thatâs pretty cute.â Aizawa replied to him, holding in his emotions, as soon as he met those new eyes of yours itâs like everything else disappeared, like the world itself didnât exist, outside of him, and his fmaily. You took his breath away, or what you could call breath, so cute and innocent, such a small thing, that brings so much joy. Your little tail swished back and forth as you stared up at them happily, taking in the features of the people youâd learned to recognize by touch. Blowing raspberries out of your lips with a stream of bubbles.
âAwwwww! Iâm gonna cry, sheâs growing so fast! Soon sheâll be swimming in her own! In like 200 years! Too soon, way too soon. Comers baby- mm hmmmâ mic spoke, knowing full well that even if he did cry, his tears would get sucked in by the ocean. He pulled you close, moving your head Iâve this shoulde is it would rest in the crook of his neck while he hugged you, eventually, the others joined in, eri practically flopping ontop (with careful regard for you of course).
They all stared at you, while you stared up at the âskyâ, oblivious to their stares, to the ways they would growl at anyone who came close, to how they kept you from seeing anyone other than what they personally approve. After all, you are jsut their little pup, of course you wouldnât notice! Their little pup⊠feels right to say that, it isnât like you have any family waiting, they arenât ever gonna come here.
And if they ever did?
Then, well, a few mermaids are going missing
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Thanks for requesting, this was fun to write!
Have a great day today! Goodbye.

there is nothing like watching movies on a plane to induce ânot like other girlsâ syndrome for me. youâre watching a tom cruise movie, a brad pitt movie, another fucking marvel movie, the princess diaries, the office. Iâm watching Blue Panet and crying about baby sea turtles (again). we are not the same.
anyway here are some times I gasped aloud watching Blue Planet on the plane and getting way too invested:
lady who goes down to the bottom of the ocean wearing chainmail to hang out with sharks they lie on her lap and she pets them and takes hooks out of their mouths. that was the first time I started crying
thereâs a PLASTIC BAG at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. a plastic bag!!! it will never decompose! thereâs so little oxygen down there! I hate us! also I wonder whose plastic bag that is. imagine being the person whose plastic bag made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. I would throw myself into it out of guilt. become marine snow and let the creatures there feed on me.
African Penguin colony in South Africa is losing numbers because the fish near their breeding ground moved further north due to climate change etc etc so...they are trying to convince the penguins to also move, to where the fish are...by building decoy penguins. that look nice and fat and happy. I. had the hardest time not losing it laughing at the penguins inspecting the decoys and then. imitating them. I hate us but I also love us.
Another âI love usâ moment was we are trying to regrow the Great Barrier Reef by releasing sperm & eggs from coral that survived the bleaching events elsewhere on the reef--the catch is that the coral only releases it for a few nights a year and the night they were doing so was a massive thunderstorm so these scientists were out on tiny boats (extremely dangerous!) in the ocean in a thunderstorm collecting coral reproductive matter and I just. humans! we fuck up so much but we also try so hard!
whale snot helicopter in action. if you didnât know whale snot helicopters were a thing, you should. also a guy got caught in the middle of a whale discharging its blowhole and was very happy about it (he said it tasted like âmild cabbage soupâ) ... my dude. my dude.
they are doing shark tourism in the Bahamas to help people be less afraid of them! as well as whale tourism & science in other places that interferes with the whales less and it means they come to the surface more and are less nervous around people! they are also coming up with fishing traps that use less lines--computerized signals to bring them up, etc.--so that whales & other animals donât get caught in them as much.
I donât really get all âethical foodâ on people because industrialized food/corporations is a really tricky subject to navigate but because certain species in the ocean are limited, fishing practices affect endangered animals, and the specific resource of seafoodwatch.org exists, I highly recommend looking up the seafood you like before you eat it to make sure youâre getting it from good sources.
I really thought Iâd seen enough baby sea turtles hatching to not cry at the sight of how cute they are and how brave they are clambering to get to the ocean. .... I had not. it will make me cry every time I guess.
anyway I didnât get to liveblog so thereâs a mini one of what I remember. and what I remember is being extremely emotional at 4 in the morning about human beings trying so hard to save the planet from themselves. also whale snot. I canât identify with being excited to be covered in whale snot but I do absolutely want to watch someone operate a whale snot drone in person. a++++
#adventures in text posts#ang liveblogs#travel blog? no. ocean documentary blog.#I don't have a superiority complex about this I just happen to like watching ocean documentaries on planes#can't focus on anything else#don't watch tom cruise tho#bad bad bad

Ew, the cornstarch got mixed in with the giant puddle đ€ą Looks gross
Love how Sybil completely ignores the Flaming Max head
Also the look of disappointment on the spore's face made me laugh
Fifth trimester???
The way the one Max spore by Grandpa's truck is bobbing in circles with his mouth open is making me laugh.
Sam showing concern for Sybil because sheâs preggers đ„ș
Her being pregnant with Abe's child implies that statues have working genital in this universe
She put a weiner scented airfreshener in the desoto
At least Sam and a Max spore seem to like that (of course they do)
"Sybil you're the best!" Hell yeah she is!
Sam's mind went to the color bar codes to prevent being traumatized by Sybil's oversharing
We drowned the desoto
Asdfgh Sam just botched slapped one of the spores for trying to say "that's none of your damn buisness."
Ew, Max's spine is pointing out
Oh hey, Satan and Jurgen
Why is Jurgen wearing his old fashioned clothes instead of his emo clothes?
Lol Sam snuck into frame to shout "Go Mets! New York rules!"
"--besides it's just a good and noble thing to do." "You're not familiar with my previous work, are you?"
"Sam, what happened to you to make you so cynical?" Gee, Jurgen, I wonder what could have possibly happened.
Oh so the water tower counts as vegetable oil because Momma did something to it
Pfft we can replace Satan's microphone with a corndog
Omg they jumped off the building to avoid Max
Oh, they're fine, and the oil is in the giant puddle.
I'm thankful to Featherly for giving us an egg but I'd have preferred not to watch him lay it. Granted it was just in a cartoon way but he still made weird noises
Also TRANS FEATHERLY 2021
"I desperately wanted to see that, sir. Ask him if he'll lay another one."
Oh hey, the Flaming Max heads helped heat up the giant desoto corndog
Since I'm playing this in 2021 the Maimtron's song references are super dated, which defeats Superball's efforts
Oooh! A unique opening sequence???
Oh this music is jazzy af
Sam really doesn't like the Max spores
Sam how do you already know what Max's insides look like???
"Even when he's not a collasal monster Max's food comas can last for weeks."
Ok we wake Max up with the coffee beans, right?
Yup!
The gi Max spore is so sad he doesn't get to come đą
"But I'm a horrible monster!"
"I suppose Max's brain always looks like a living room?" "Well, Max is host to all kinds of weird parasites, and he likes to he a good host!" WHAT
No really, this brings up so many questions about lagomorphs. Are they some kind of Symbiote or something?
And a previous episode confirmed Max is amphibious
Max has tumors!!!
It shocked Sam!
"Eugh! Get away fake Max!" "Do you find my warmth... alarming, Sam?"
"What do nightmares taste like, anyway?" "Pepsi"
Max wants to be author đ
He also writes fanfiction about Flint đ€Ł
I'd unironically read his books.
Tina Belcher voice: Friend fiction
Max has an experimental fusion jazz band???
"He just killed a great white shark--"
Max being completely unable to describe a woman is very gay of him. Good for him.
Max's brain teleported everyone to different parts of the body.
Found Sybil in the gym/legs
The brain is broadcasting Sam's thoughts???
Sam couldn't think of a joke for the medicine balls :(
"Wow Max is looking pretty buff. Would it be too weird if I asked him to turn around?"
Sam! Stop thinking bad things about Sybil's pregnancy she can hear you you putz!
She's upset with him now
"Can you believe this guy?" "I find the entire situation to be very contrived and misogynistic." Same spore Max, same.
Sam stop being so mean omg!
"I changed Sybil, I totally get the whole parenthood thing now." "Really now?" "Tax deductions."
In Max's inventory now
Y'know, I never really thought about it as a storage house
Hit The Road reference :3
Baby roach hatched in
"Pa..papa?" "Now I am little champion, now I am!"
Max has a Maximus shrine
Sam turned into a roomba!
Aw, he named it Sam Jr đ„ș
We won Sybil back through his love of Sam Jr
Found the conjoined twins
Huh, Max lost as eye. Does that mean he has a glass one, or do lagomorphs have regenerative abilities?
Pfft we have to play twister to control his arma
The brain is messing with things again
Oh, we need a roach to operate the game because of radiation
Well, let's kidnap Sal
Oh, poor Girl Stinky. She's really going through it
Aw, Sal feels bad
Sal?
Honey, are alright?
He's dying???
He's not immune to irradiation!?
Oh no, he's gone
I'm so sad đ
Gotta pick up Sam Jr. Before I control Max
They mad Max do a magical girl pose
Ugh the narrator is back
Wait, what?
He's Max's brain??? SUPEREGO???
WHAT
"I was always ignored" Yo if my super ego was as pretentious as you I 'd ignore it too đ€
He wants to kill himself and Max???
I know Max had a self loathing complex but holy shit
The super ego is perfectly fine with destroying half the east coast what a jerk
Just noticed Sam's tie is red. Had no idea about this while drawing PI!Sam lol
We have to help Max get his memories back to use the ASTRO projector
Skunkapes has three Sam clones imprisoned
Sam had canon ocd?
Gasp Gordon???
No, it's Sammun Mak
I love him, little child tyrant
Just make him a mobile brain in a jar and let Sam and Max adopt him
Why is Grandpa here?
He isn't talking like Stinky
Too polite
Sam sees it too
He's a space gorilla
They switched brains?
Found the cloning g chamber
Let's go to Momma's first
CONE OF SHAME CONE OF SHAME CONE OF SHAME
Superball is "wracked with guilt"
"Keep it together Superball. Sam will be able to save the day. He always does."
Ok, let's go to the cloning facility
I'm still thinking about poor Sal yo
FLIIIIIINT!
He's punching space apes!
Girl Stinky really playing up the evil Mistress role
The doggleganger has a bomb on him!!!
Wait so Girl really is a mermaid??? I thought that was just her aestetic
God I love Flint
Haha we tricked Skunkape with scooby doo villain tactics
Got the robot
Her water broke... and it was pennies
Max wants to save Sybil! đđ„șđ
Super Ego is here
Oh now he wants to save Max
The only thing here are those records
Super Ego waved goodbye
Cthulu Max is cute when he cries
Wait What?
His head is on fire!
The maimtron hit him!
He waved goodbye... and teleported away.
He exploaded!!!!
He promised he'd take Sam with him and he didn't!!!!
AAAAAAH
I thought the dead Max thing was popular angst fanon fic thingy!
We're cloning Max?
It didn't work đđđđđ
Superball ran off crying
Oh God the credits are just Sam walking sadly what the hell
He's not even stopping to fight any crime đą
đđđ
God the way he's clinging to himself
What?
The elevator???
MAAAAX
he's back???
Past Max???
He blew his Sam up???
Wait hold on I'm glad they're together again but this doesn't fix anything
There's so much trauma from this season
All the horrible things that happened during 301-304 happened in like 3 days tops, then Sam had to deal with Max being a monster for a week before watching him die!
And the new (?) Max had BLOW HIS SAM UP!!!
And they left the franchise like that for a decade????
What the hell?
I want to be happy but this shit is going to consume my brain for the next week at least what the hell
Aaaaaaah!
Like maybe they really do just brush it off but it feels unlikely
I know Max has a connection with his other selves so it'll be easier for him to adjust but certainly Sam is going to notice the discrepancies since he doesn't get the same deal
Someone told me there were multiple endings hold on
Aw, they walked off into the sunrise together
But still
AAAAAAAAH

Nobodyâs gonna read this, but I just really want to get my dream out there.
So I had a dream with a post apocalyptic setting. Basically because of global warming the sea level rose, because of the heat it would rain almost constantly and it was super humid, so the vegetation was luxurious. Because most nuclear plants got flooded, a lot of the fauna and flora mutated, so the plants grew way faster and bigger than usual and the animals (mostly the water dwelling one) looked different.
I was in a group of four people and for some reason we were just moving around, not settling in one place. The dream begins with us looking for a place to spend the next few nights because the rain was too strong for us to continue our journey to fucks knows where. At one point I find this egg that looks like a dogfish egg but bigger and harder to the touch, I knew it was abandoned so I just take it with me. After awhile the egg ends up hatching and comes out of it a really weird animal, itâs kind of a mix between a shark and a amphibian? It has four legs, the face of a shark with fins and all, but also produces mucus and has webbed paws. At first itâs black and white but little by little itâs started getting very vibrant colors like a harlequin frogs, and mine was pink and deep blue. He was weird looking but he was adorable and I loved him.
Anyways, we keep walking before finding a old house with itâs foundation underwater and water around it (looked like a tiny swamp). We manage to get there, we knock just to make sure no oneâs there and to our surprise someone does answer the door. Itâs a lady and sheâs suspicious at first but ends up warming up to us when we explains who we are, why weâre here and give her some ârareâ food we had with us (aka processed food like candy and such). ïżŒWhen she sees our new âpetâ she explains that itâs a mutant specie ïżŒand that they were pretty common around where she lived and that people started getting them as pets because theyâre pretty docile and affectionate, plus people liked how the color was random: almost every individual had a different set of colors that came in a few hours after the birth.
Not much happened after that, we just stayed with the woman for awhile, after that we continue our journey and I found another egg and this one came out green, black with some yellow spots

So I was working on a pic for day 16 but I was working on it after work so didnât have much time before 5pm to get pics.(I need a scanner one of these days) At some point I just looked at how dark it was getting in the room I take pics in & gave up. I also donât know what to do for day 17, I want to guess something like Future Foundation or characters being in the simulation from DR2 due to the name of the project but I dunno. I might do something but the theme future is coming up so Iâll likely save it for that.
Iâm rambling & kind of feel bad for my posts for day 15 So day 16 was alternate universes & I really enjoy AUs though a large amount of the ones I like are crossover plots. Most of the pics arenât crossover based & are largely just based on past RPs. I made a bunch of pics & didnât want to spam with posts for each so I tried to put as many as I could together.
The first three pics are based on a thing I call Monster Community AU thing, pretty much characters are secretly some kind of creature(witch, alien, merpeople, harpies, etc) living among humans but sometimes do things in secret areas other monsters hanging out at like a community of monsters.
The two scenes here are from different mermaid RPs, both from my Monster Community AU stuff again. Both pics involve RP plots that were DR1 happened, DR2 characters were trying to survive the aftermath of the world going mad(pretty much surviving in the destroyed city until finding somewhere or something) & some other stuff Iâm going to leave out due to rambling. Just know this is technically a simplified version of the series post-DR1(if that makes sense? probably not) that was used because I keep doing shit in RPs.
The one to the left is from a plot were the survivors find a cave they end up staying the night in only to decided to check further & find themselves in a place other monsters are living in. For some reason Makoto is a grey eyeless big mouth monster, I think I was obsessed with a design I saw on Tumblr but can't find anymore. Byakuya is an octopus merperson because for some reason I imagine he'd be on if he was a merman. The second one is vampire Byakuya is living in a mansion his family had by the sea on a cliff area that leads to the beach. He ends up learning Makoto is a merperson(whose parents tried to keep him from learning about other creatures for safety) & expecting their kids. Makoto is a species of merperson that make nests in the sand when they have kids so Makoto had to stay in the water until the babies could swim by themselves. Byakuya will probably have some special pools setup in the house for the twins since they'll be to young to go into human form after the being old enough to swim.(It'll only be a couple months) At the moment Makoto is in a cave inside the cliff that leads to the ocean, some how the inside of Byakuya's mansion has a secret stairway leading down here. Makoto can't leave the water because his nest is here & his merperson instincts don't want him to leave until the babies hatch & are old enough to swim. Due to Makoto's parents hiding his & Komaru's mermaid/creature side Makoto didn't think much on the fact he was a merperson until he got pregnant & his instincts demanded he make a nest... That's also how Byakuya learned his family had a secret area of the mansion & proceeded lug a futon mattress/blanket down there to be close to Makoto. I didn't think much about it at the time but I guess something lead to his parents getting protective & scared if someone knew they were merpeople, then again there's a Japanese myth about eating mermaids/some kind of fish people would cause immortality. I almost forgot this but Byakuya hung up a net & decorations so the babies when down in the cave donât swim into the sea.
This one is based on an RP were Byakuya is a werewolf while Makoto is a harpy. DR1 happened, Byakuya & Makoto had a relationship but went their separate ways to find their families(see if thereâs hope of them still being out there) while working on getting their lives together.(Since with the despair event they likely need to recover/figure out what to do now)
Byakuya at some point is house sitting for Hinata & Komaeda(originally it was his vacation cabin in the woods but something changed forget why) when he ends up having to help a harpy who lost their nest because a tree landed on it. He took the harpy in because they didnât have anywhere to go & the crash broke one of their wings. He was to tired to think much about figuring out who the harpy was after patching them up because he was tired.
Byakuya ends up learning in the morning that the harpy is Makoto & pregnant. Byakuya reassured Makoto knew he was safe now & he(Byakuya) isnât going anywhere. Byakuya later learned Makoto found his family but someone attacked & ditched him in the woods while injuring his eye. After that Byakuya helps Makoto recover & they eventually move to his vacation house when Hinata & Komaeda come home. Byakuya has a nursery for their eventual kids & Makoto ended up staying in the nursery sitting on the egg Ichigo was in when he had the twins. Len kept barking when he found her until she finally hatched.
Hereâs Makoto perched on Hinataâs couch singing a bird tune as Byakuya listens, sometimes the blond will sometimes whistle which makes Makoto squeal in delight because it sounds like Byakuya trying to mimic a bird. Makoto is meant to be a House Martin harpy because the bird is cute & has fuzzy feet. Makotoâs hood/cape is just his hoodie tied to his neck, he can slightly still see out of the injured eye but without something to protect it things seem to bright during the day through that eye.
This was the pic that lead to not posting anything the other day, as you can tell I made more pics right after managing to finish it. This pic is once again based on an RP(well two of them), for some reason I really liked doing this plot. The AU is pretty much everyone lives in a world of animal centaurs(in Kazuichi's case he's a shark merperson) & for some reason this is before modern technology exists. Everyone lives in caves that have been carved into homes with some having multiple rooms, they have furniture made from leftover stone, wood, some other stuff & clothes made out of normal animal skin like they're in Brother Bear or something. Given the state the world is currently at they seal off the entrances to their caves in the winter after making sure to have enough food to last it.(There's some that have the ability to hibernate luckily) I have absolutely no idea why I enjoy this so much. So Byakuya is a wolf(lol blond wolf fur) & Makoto is a pygmy goat(I made him a little bigger because again awkward size) but for the first RP I kept switching the species(from pudu deer to pygmy goat) because I was obsessed with those animals at the time. It ended with S having Gundam call Makoto a goat/deer hybrid so he's a deer goat in the first RP.(I didn't switch it often but kept talking about confusion) In the second RP Makoto stayed a pygmy goat for the entire RP. Len is a wolf centaur & Ichigo is a goat centaur, Byakuya & Makoto had other kids but they're preexisting characters(Komaru & Chiaki for some reason) & I'm mostly focusing on these characters.(I don't actually know what I was getting at) The twins are a couple days old, since Ichigo is a pygmy goat she's already active. Byakuya is laying down so she won't get hurt, Ichigo & Makoto's goat side makes them enjoy climbing things so the little baby is climbing on daddy. Len's eyes & ears haven't opened just yet so he's kept safe in a portable cradle thing since he's to small to play with his little sister right now.(Makoto will retuck him in in a moment) Makoto has a poncho thing because he has trouble keeping warm which luckily his kids didn't inherit. Also Byakuya is pretty strong so he can take his daughter & his mate trying to climb on him especially when Makoto is pregnant. It's ok & doesn't bother him in fact it's kind of cute especially since sometimes after that Ichigo will do a little jitter dance that baby goats some times do.(He'd also whether they climb on him or a stool thing than try to climb the side of their home or something bigger due to worrying about the two hurting themselves.
Byakuya & Makoto have slightly long hair because it's hard for them to cut their hair with a dagger Byakuya worked on for hair cutting. Byakuya is hoping to eventually trade something for a mirror some traveling trader visits, maybe see if someone in the pack can help with cutting hair not that it matter much.
Go check out @naegamimonthâ

Hello Puppet AUs!
Hey there! Iâve got some Hello Puppet Aus that I wanna share with you!
Dragon AU
Scout is part of a group of dragons that like to hunt humans for sport, and sheâs made to hunt a newly caught human(Stacy), if she ever wants to leave the cave she lies in. She finds she doesnât want to do that, and together they escape.
Daisy steals eggs from other dragon nests in order to pad out the dragon army Mortimer wants, and also cause she doesnât want her own children.
Riley does experiments on the hatchlings(and adults), leaving very few dragons for their army.
Mortimer sleeps most of the time because heâs a very old dragon, and is always confused that his army hasnât gotten any bigger(cause Riley keeps killing the hatchings).
Rosco is a chimera that Riley made.
Mermaid AU
Scout is a young siren that wants to go up to the surface, but isnât allowed to cause sheâs still young. She does so anyways, and gets caught in a net, where sheâs rescued and taken in by Will and Stacy. Will and Stacy are there to investigate a seaside ghost town, the population of which had all vanished years ago.
Daisy is the mother of Scout and her siblings, Nickâs the father, and Riley is Nickâs sister.
Mortimer is a sea witch(here used as a gender neutral term) who âmetâ Owen a while back.
Rosco is a shark Riley tamed and uses to guard her Little Mermaid style human stuff hoard.
There will be pirates.
And thatâs it for now, without giving away too many spoilers! Although if anyone has any questions, let me know and Iâll answer what I can! :D
Also @colorfulcollectordragon-2f8ee55c has been helping me with these AUs. Sheâs pretty great go follow her for cool stuff. :D She also suggested an AU to the Mermaid AU, where a human Scout finds mermaid Stacy.

RP Log: Rising takes Cravs out to skyfish. Egg fish.
Rising Lotus still looked a bit wobbly on her feet as they made their way through the aetheryte plaza. "Ugh, wasn't even a long airship trip..." she took a few deep breaths, trying to collect herself now that they were on solid land... more or less.
Cravendy Hound , in contrast, is in high spirits. She steps out onto the floating island with wonder lighting up her eyes, and she dashes out to an edge to get a better look. "Risin', ye got to work on yer sea legs...or air legs, in this case? Anyway, holy. Shit. What the 'ells keepin' all these rocks flyin' up?"
Rising Lotus: "Some sort of air crystals or somethin' I think? Some sort of aethery type of deal, someone explained it to me when I came here the first time but I don't remember the specifics." she shrugged ."It ain't too far from the spot...which is weird cause you think you could jus' cast out off any side."
Cravendy Hound shrugs. Magic didn't make much sense to her as well. She would follow Rising to whatever spot she was talking about, chatting along the way. "So, ye showed me that weird balloonfish last time, but what else could we drag up?"
Rising Lotus shrugged. "There's lots of different air fish. Some ain't really look like fish though, least not where I casted off here." she started down the way. "But I guess it counts as long as you hook it?"
Cravendy Hound: "I mean, if we're tossin' our 'ooks off a cliff, seems reasonable ye'd catch things other than fish. Like, birds, maybe." She pauses every once and awhile to observe the native flora and fauna around these parts, having never seen anything quite like it.
Rising Lotus approached the edge cautiously, looking out on the vast cloudscape. "Think over here was the place. I remember these weird plants." she plopped down, setting her tackle box between them. "Also careful when you go for some bait, it has a tendency to... uh float away."
Cravendy Hound: "What?" Cravs goes for Rising's tackle box and opens it, letting a couple of red balloon bugs drifting out. "What?!"
Rising Lotus was able to snag one out of the air as the others wafted away on the breeze. "See? You jus' wanna hook 'em..." she slid the hook into the body part instead of the balloon part, so that it still could float on her line. "Like this. So they can still float. You'll probably still pop a few though on your first try." She then casted her line out, line floating about with the stange bug hook on.
Cravendy Hound does her best to catch some of the bait before it flies away, but the wind blows away most of the escapees. Following Rising's lead, she stabs one a little too roughly through her hook. It's not floating at all anymore. That's not a good sign.
Cravendy Hound throws caution to the wind and decides, screw it. She casts off with the dead bug anyway. The chill really sets in once she begins waiting in earnest. "Eesh, it's colder than I thought up 'ere."
Rising Lotus snickered as Cravs had a deflated bait hanging from her line. "It's a little tricky, the ballon part is way bigger than the non-balloon part." she shrugged as she cast off anyway. "You think it'd be warmer since we're closer to the sun."
Cravendy Hound feels something tug on the other end and she pulls up a...weird? Purple circle? Cravs can't tell if this is a living creature or skytrash. "I think I caught this through pure luck."
Cravendy Hound: "Well, the tops of mountains tend to be cold? Maybe whatevers 'oldin' in all the warm air becomes thinner the 'igher ye go."
Rising Lotus reels in the same thing, unhooking it then tossing it away, watching it drift away. "Wonder what those things are, weird purple balls." she casted off again. " I got some other bait in there too, these giant bugs. But ya know, different from these bugs."
Cravendy Hound gives her Storm Core a confused squeeze and the thing begins to deflate, spitting out questionable liquid as it becomes as flat as a pancake. Cravs feels a tinge bad, decides to toss it off the cliff as if releasing a fish. The purple thing descends and disappears below the cloud layer. It's probably fine, she tells herself!
Cravendy Hound: "Other bait? Giant...bugs?" Cravs mutters apprehensively. "How big we talkin' 'ere."
Rising Lotus: "Well their body is small, but it has super long legs." she motioned to a small cage with Giant Crane Fly fluttering about. "...So...how did Riylli take... ya know.." she reeled in once more after asking, pulling in a small slug like thing with little wings, giving it a strange look. "...it's like some small angel thing."
Cravendy Hound peers over at the bait and lets out a breath of relief. "Oh, that's nothin', I thought ye were talkin' like, /big/ bugs. Like this bug." She spreads her hands a few ilms apart, invisibly outlining something the size of a loaf of bread.
Cravendy Hound: "She took it well enough...at least, don't think we 'ave to worry about 'er gabbin' to Momori anymore. I think it'd be good to keep 'er and Florus separated though, she still wants to tear 'im a new one."
Rising Lotus "Well yeah that was a no brainer...good though. I was worried 'bout her runnin' with Momori... an' her bein' as naive as she is at times...well..." she let out a sigh at the thought before reeling in another catch. It looks like a weird mass of cloth moving about. "Whoah.." she held her line up so she could look at its form better. Whiteloom
Cravendy Hound: "While most Eorzeans don't take kindly to Garleans, I think somethin' personal must've 'appened with Riylli to make 'er distrust 'em that much...and she's sheltered, too. Bein' in the woods for all yer life don't do the mind any good."
Cravendy Hound glances over at Rising's catch and lets out an amused snort. "Hah, did ye accidentally reel in someone's smallclothes?"
(Cravendy Hound) Buoyant Oviform UMM )) (Cravendy Hound) THATS JUST AN EGG?? )) (Rising Lotus) What's the lady's name they're trying to stop again?)) (Rising Lotus) and yes that's an egg)) (Cravendy Hound) Mindred Rot? )) (Rising Lotus) okay thanks I was blanking xD))
Rising Lotus looked again at her catch. "..Well them Ishgarde folk do wear that frilly stuff." She carefully unhooked it and tossed it over the edge only for it to start swimmin' back through the air.
Rising Lotus: "But aye... worried someone's gonna take advantage of that...someone like Momori or Rot."
Cravendy Hound: "Good thing Riylli's got us to protect 'er, then. Or try. She's pretty stubborn."
Cravendy Hound - Something tugs on the line and she reels in an egg of all things. Cravs holds it in her hand, stunned into a prolonged silence.
Cravendy Hound: "...AY. OKAY, NOW I KNOW YER MESSIN' WITH ME." She turns to Rising with the egg brandished like a club. "The purple beachball and cloth thing were fishy enough, but an egg?! What do ye take me for? Are ye, like, attachin' crap to my line or somethin'?!"
Rising Lotus was about to speak on the Riylli matter when Cracs pulled up an egg. "Huh... that is an egg." she cocked her head. "..so there are eggs floatin' 'round up here too? I mean... does it hatch into things?" she gave it a puzzled look, losing her own bait. "How in the hells would I do that? I'm right here with you!" she set herself up and cast out again.
Cravendy Hound: "I dunno, ye tell me! Did ye 'ire a moogle to loiter below us? Or maybe yer usin' magic. That shit can do anythin'," Cravs rambles as she grips the egg in her hand. "Well, the jig is up!"
Cravendy Hound tosses the egg against the ground, smashing it. A tiny, weird fish splats out of it and flops futilely as Cravs goes from confused to seconds away from losing her mind.
(Cravendy Hound) I have no idea but like - if eggs can fly.................. )) (Rising Lotus) These eggs can! If they're even eggs)) (Cravendy Hound) sus eggs ))
Rising Lotus "I don't know any magic! Aside from some of that blue kind I haven't practiced in...whoah!" she was jerked forward from the tug on her line, causing her to stand up and fight with it. "This ones feels big..." her eyes darted down to the edge nervously and inched back a decent amount of ilms. Eventually with a mighty tug a shark swooped up over the side, thrashing about as it landed on the edge before Rising.
Rising Lotus: "...It's a flyin' shark!" her face lit up, though the creature's resistance broke through, biting through her line and the fly-swimming off.
Cravendy Hound peels her eyes off of the questionable fish-egg and hurries to loop her arm around Rising's elbow. "Don't let it drag ye off! It's a long way down!"
Cravendy Hound: "Well, shit! That's a flyin' fish if I ever saw one," Cravs points out. "But like, a /real/ one, not just the glidin' type I see on the water."
Rising Lotus grunted as it flew off. "Well it was a fish.." she watched it fly off into the distance and back into the clouds. " Ain't ever had that happen before. You'll vouch for me that I caught a sky shark right? I'll vouch for your egg." she snickered.
Cravendy Hound narrows her eyes again. "Ye say that, and people'll just think yer loony. Damnit, I wanna hook a shark too." She stabs another balloon bug onto her hook and decides to change spots - maybe standing somewhere else, she'll have more luck?
Cravendy Hound: "Anyway, what exactly did ye promise to Momori? Somethin' 'bout takin' 'er to Idyllshire? Gods, I feel bad that yer stickin' yer neck out for me to begin with..."
Rising Lotus made her way down the way and cast out again. "Ugh... all I could offer was some connections out there, which even that I ain't thrilled about. Gotta warn 'em 'bout her." she sighed. "An' don't worry 'bout it...gotta look out for you to."
Cravendy Hound blinks several times at that last part, two parts dazed and one part embarrassed. Mixed in is also that feeling of fear you get when you look down a cliff - which /may/ be from literally looking down a cliff. She's not sure. "Ah. Well. I can look after myself...but I appreciate the 'elp anyway."
Cravendy Hound: "We look out for each other." Cravs pauses, then glances up to give Rising a shy smile. She finds her footing. "..A 'ound never 'unts alone.
Rising Lotus nodded, returning the smile as she idly reeled in her line. "Aye..." she chewed her lower lip, looking like she was fighting with something. "...I was alone for a bit before I joined up with Heartwood. Was...a bit hard...so.. ya know...you an' Riylli..." she trailed off, reeling in her next catch.
Cravendy Hound tilts her head as she listens to Rising, every word slow and careful. Which struck her as odd, but then again, Cravs figured she was feeling just the same way. "Yeah! It's good the three of us stumbled into each other. Ain't good bein' alone all the time."
Rising Lotus fished up an egg of her own, breaking the tender moment by by grabbing it and shoving it in Crav's face "See! I wasn't putting you on! There are jus'..." she looked at the egg in her hand "..these things floatin' about.." she shrugged and tossed it away.
Rising Lotus: "..b-but yeah...Thanks." she smiled weakly, though it looked like something was still bothering her a bit.
Cravendy Hound rolls her eyes with a smirk. "Well I'll be...ye also got one of them flyin' eggs. Either there really are eggs just out there, waitin' and willin' to be fished up, or we're both goin' crazy from bein' up 'ere too long. If they're aren't just a 'allucination, we should shove 'em in a carton at 'ome as a prank. See if someone bakes a cake with it."
Cravendy Hound: "Anyway, I'm gonna 'ead back. My nose's gonna be frozen solid if I stay out 'ere any longer." She packs up her rod and bumps Rising on the shoulder with a clenched fist as she begins to walk back. "Thanks for takin' me out. Shout if anythin's givin' ye trouble."
Rising Lotus nodded. "Aye, I think I've had enough of starin' off into...certain death." she stashed her rod away. " Glad we finally had a chance to go out here." she rubbed her elbow a bit at her offer, glancing back over the edge before nodding lightly. "..A-alright." she shivered a bit as the chill was finally starting to get to her as well. "..I wonder if they got a bar in that town back there.."
