“have you seen this?”
it’s too early in the day to be subjected to twitter in y/n’s opinion, but her manager - the one she’s always insisted in not needing - insists upon it. sara’s hand shakes as she hands over her phone, the video already playing loudly.
the video is a poorly clipped together compilation of kimi antonelli, for no better word, gushing about her. it’s earnest and even cute, but not cute enough. the formula one paddock was a vulture pit, one y/n had only escaped three years earlier with her life - barely.
“it’s cool. that’s all it is though,” y/n moves towards the door, picking up her coat and refusing to turn back towards sara, “i’ve told you since jenson insisted i hire you, there’s no way in hell i will ever go back to that paddock. and that’s the end of it, please. i’ll do any stupid vitamin ad or female empowerment talk if it makes you happy, but i can’t go back there.”
y/n grabbed her keys and left the apartment, leaving sara in her wake. sara reached into her pocket and pulled out a tattered letter with ‘y/n’ scrawled on the front in awful handwriting. she left it on the kitchen island and left, understanding this was likely to be her last time in this apartment - there's stupid and there's what she was doing right now, there was no way she would still be employed in the morning.

girlsonthegrid: today we look back at the biggest what if for women in formula one - y/n y/ln. the 26-year-old drove for mclaren from 2020 to 2022 before she sustained a career-ending injury at silverstone. y/ln was the first ever female f1 race winner with her emphatic victory at monza in 2021 and the first ever female formula 2 champion with her win in 2019. her career lasted just 30 races and she hasn't been seen in the paddock or around any drivers since the crash. there have been reports that she has been approached about a mentor role but considering how fast her management rejected and shut down sky sports about a commentary role, this is also unlikely. what would you like to see from her if she ever comes out of hiding?
view all comments
user1: i mourn for her everyday
user2: the way she paved the way for so many but can't stand to be in the paddock to see what she did for the sport
user3: i really don't blame her
user4: doriane is the mercedes reserve and abbi is alpine's! her work is there even if she isn't and i know i'll always be grateful for that
user5: she's so overrated, if she didn't crash she still would've been out of formula 1 by now
user6: me when i'm the most wrong ever
user7: i can't believe there are still men to this day that think she wasn't great? literal world champions like max, lewis, fernando, seb and jenson have all said that she could've won a championship
user8: i mean no shade to lando but i think y/n would've made it 100x harder for max this season in that mclaren
user9: the way jenson tried to say that in the nicest way possible in las vegas lol
user10: and max agreed with him LOL
user11: the way it wasn't even proper lando shade or oscar shade like twitter painted it to be but like max just praising his bestie
user12: he does not play about her as he should
user13: i mean he's the only one we know y/n still actually talks to
user14: i can't wait for the tell-all biography that exposes half the grid because like how much have you must have fucked up for her to never speak to you again
user15: when twitter likes were public she was caught liking a bunch of tweets bout mick when he got his first points so like she doesn't even have hard feelings to the guy who put her in the barrier sooo
user16: it was proven it was break failure???? mick did nothing wrong that's why she still likes things praising him
user17: that crash really robbed us of the best ever f1 relationship with y/n and lando
user18: you know that's part of the reason that she doesn't speak to lando right?
user19: because she wished it was him not her?
user20: NO! because she hated that whole 'ship'
user21: and lando leaned into it way too much
user22: it made me a bit uncomfortable and i'm not even y/n
user23: AND she said on the beyond the grid podcast that she thought those rumours were really reductive and relegated her to just a love interest of her teammate rather than a race winner
user24: kimi antonelli please bring her back to us
user25: praying she'll listen to the literal child

texts between y/n y/ln (bold) and max verstappen (italics)
did u give them my fucking address
my lawyer says to always deny everything?
i also actually have no idea what you are talking about…
i just got home and there’s a fucking letter from KIMI ANTONELLI on my kitchen counter
it’s creepy and a mad invasion of privacy
i did NOT give them your address?
i gave them sara’s contact details so they wouldn’t be able to directly get to you and i honestly thought she would be too scared to ask you
she showed me all the clips of him praising me.
it didn’t work.
it’s been three years y/n…
and it still hasn’t been long enough.
all i’m saying is read the letter, as creepy as it might be, he is just an 18 year old entering the lion’s den you could at least reply to him even if you don’t take up the offer
although i read they were going to pay you £10 million a year??? was that real?
unfortunately it is very real.
i didn’t think i was still worth that much
you are worth that and more, just give him a chance. we’ve both met him, he’s a sweet kid.
for now.

it was cold in her apartment, y/n hadn’t shut the window from when she opened them that morning. in fact she hadn’t moved from the kitchen since she set eyes on the letter. it was bold she’d give him that.
the letter was crumpled as if it had gone through hell to get to her (it probably had) and the handwriting was a serious reminder of just how young kimi is. y/n had wondered if her maternal instincts would ever kick in like all the older women in her life insisted it would. sure she had felt intense feelings of love for her childhood cats and had cared her formula one cars (regina and heather, they were named after mean girls, because that is who they had to be on track) like they were children. but that true maternal feeling had never come to her, until now.
all y/n could think about was kimi. how young he was, how much he was set to lose. not everyone was her, the worst thing wasn’t going to happen to everyone - it just always seemed to happen to her.
her loud phone alarm jolted her out of her daydream, reminding her to take her painkillers. as she poured herself a glass of water, y/n slammed down the glass and ripped open the letter.
dear miss y/n y/ln my name is andrea kimi antonelli and i am going to be driving for mercedes amg f1 team in 2025. we met very briefly after i won all three races at mugello and lifted the italian f4 championship trophy. i know you were there on mclaren PR but for me it changed my life. you have always been my biggest inspiration alongside michael schumacher (i am italian, you must understand). it was always my dream to race alongside you and maybe even be teammates, i’d even betray toto and leave mercedes to make that happen (please don’t tell him i told you that). i know that can never happen now, but it could happen in another way? i know like me you grew up seeing niki lauda supporting and mentoring the mercedes drivers and i was wondering if you would be my mentor - who cares about george anyway. i know you’ve never come back to the paddock and are unlikely to do so for little old me. but if you could just think about it that would be great, if you don’t ask, you’ll never get! i hope this letter wasn’t horribly offensive, i mean it when i say you’re my favourite!!! love, kimi (p.s. i was at monza 2021, so you could even consider me a good luck charm) (p.p.s you won monza 2021 completely on merit but i was there) (p.p.p.s please don’t think i’m an idiot) (p.p.p.p.s i also loved interlagos 2020 that’s a super underrated drive)
with tears in her eyes, y/n placed the letter back on the counter, grabbed the glass of water and made her way to her bedroom. painkillers taken with a wince, she still hadn’t gotten used to the size of the pills even three years into taking them, y/n shuffled under the duvet.
the offer was there and it seemed sincere. her accountant would tell her that the money was worth the mental turmoil, even if she just did it for one season and returned to her little cave in west london.
there was no doubt she felt something for kimi - a kinship, a frienship or a maternal yearning - but was it worth ripping off all the bandages and opening herself back up to all the scrutiny again?
she would sleep on it.

user1: first post in three years and it’s THIS?
user2: i am not complaining
user3: i am savouring every little piece in case she goes missing for another three years
mclarenf1: the queen has returned
user4: no thanks to you
user5: how about we keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth
user6: socials admin i know it is not you specifically but i really don’t know how you can post up here like you’re completely absolved of your involvement in this. your car had break failure that broke her fucking back - it is a miracle she is even still walking! and you still don’t accept any responsibility for it
user7: i love y/n but like how is it mclaren’s fault? break failure happens all the time?
user8: well it’s in one part the fact that they were using her as a test dummy because it was a new faulty part that mclaren was experimenting with that was on her car and NOT lando’s and the fact that to this day when they feel like it they’ll heap guilt onto mick schumacher
user9: without being disrespectful there were two formula one careers that were ended that day because mclaren have kept to the narrative that it was mick that put her into the barriers eventhough siedel admitted when he left mclaren that it was a faulty break part that caused it.
user10: clock it
user11: yes clock it but maybe on a different post because it’s y/n’s return to the internet and all yall can talk about is the most traumatic event in her life?
kimiantonelli: i also love clairo
user12: what is bro doing?
user13: be quiet he’s our best hope of y/n coming back to the paddock let him cook

when she woke the next morning, y/n knew she had to read the letter again before jumping into anything. in her sleep she was plagued with memories of the past, but not the usual ones that haunted her in the dark. there were no flames, no hospitals, no career-ending injuries. no, this time she was transported back to 2020 and her first few races of her formula one career.
march 2020.
the paddock was much bigger in formula one than it had been in formula two with hundreds more people running around, barging through crowds, hitting y/n on the way through and not even stopping to apologise. she had thought briefly that she would be making more noise as the first female racer to take part in a race since forever - y/n even thought that she’d made a bit of a splash during preseason testing, nestled between her teammate lando and alex in the red bull in fifth.
but she was invisible. even with the garish orange path to follow to the mclaren garage, y/n struggled to get through the crowds of people brandishing their paddock passes. her trainer had gone ahead to set up her driver room which left y/n to push through and arrive to briefing ten minutes late.
“i’m so sorry, i got lost and by the time i was going in the right direction the paddock had filled up?”
y/n stammered, not quite able to make eye contact with zak brown. the american wasn’t tall in comparison to the general public but he towered over y/n and the disapproving stare didn’t do much to help.
“just make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
zak snipped, waving his hand in y/n’s direction, telling her to take a seat. y/n rushed to the nearest empty seat and looked for her teammate in the room. lando was sat just three seats to her right on a small table. y/n tried to make eye contact with lando but he avoided her gaze like it was burning him, so much for the ‘big brother’ act he had put on at the car launch.
the engineers stood in front of the screen and started their long-winded presentation about the prospects for the season ahead. y/n pulled her note book out and frantically started taking notes, she didn’t know if that was normal for formula one drivers, but knowing as much as possible couldn’t hurt.
y/n copied down the warnings about possible tyre wear in turn three when she heard some soft sniggers, like someone was trying to stifle their laughter. this drew y/n out of her focus on the presentation, looking around the meeting room to locate the perpetrator.
lando caught her eye immediately. he had a light blush across his face and his mouth was covered by his hand. he looked guilty, guiltier than the rest of the room who were listening intently to the engineers. y/n raised her eyebrow in question.
“i’m sorry are we distracting you two?”
zak interrupted the presentation, turning to look at y/n and lando.
“no, sorry sir,” y/n replied turning her chair back to face the screen. “lando?” zak pressed.
“i’m sorry zak but y/n was distracting me with her note-taking,” lando forced out between his boyish giggles. “i’ve never taken notes, i didn’t realise you would be sucking up to the engineers this early on?”
“i’ve always taken notes? is it a problem? i’m sorry if i was distracting you lando.”
“yeah we’ll see how much those notes help you on track, rookie.”
lando spat over the table. it was uncharacteristically mean for the lando she had seen in the mclaren social content and the lando she spoke with at the car launch. y/n felt tears prickle in her eyes but she swallowed them down, she couldn’t cry yet - or at least not in view of all the most important people on the team.
“right. we’ll get back to business then.”
the rest of the meeting went by in a blur for y/n, but despite the outburst from lando, she continued to take her notes, she would be damned if some comments from lando would fuck up her entire race weekend routine. y/n took her time when zak dismissed them from the meeting, not wanting to look unprofessional.
moving towards the door, y/n’s shoulder hit someone else’s. she looked up to make eye contact with lando yet again.
“you better not make a habit of making contact with me, rookie,” lando said, a slight smirk but a harsh look in his eyes.
“are you like okay?”
“why wouldn’t i be?” lando replied pushing past through the door.
“i don’t know, you’re just a little frosty this morning? did i do something?”
“why would i be thinking about you, seriously? this is my team, know your place and we’ll get on just fine”.
with that lando was gone and y/n was left puzzled. i guess PR really does work wonders, y/n thought before making her own way to her drivers room.
her trainer, luca, wasn’t there when she managed to locate the room but all of her gear was already neatly put away like they had discussed. y/n cracked open an electrolyte drink and opened her notebook to study the meeting points.
there was a loud knock at the door and before y/n could even utter a “come in”, the mystery visitor barged into the room. daniel ricciardo announced his arrival with a packet of tim tams thrown at y/n and a quick “howdy” before he started rifling through her stuff and studying her helmet.
“ah, another cool dude who has a cuddly guy on their helmet,” daniel said, picking up her helmet, pointing at the cartoon version of her childhood cat.
“oh that’s schumi, when we travelled for karting we always brought him up until he died of old age, but i still want him with me whenever i race.” y/n said, nervous that the heartfelt explanation would be deemed uncool by one of the coolest racers she had ever seen.
“oh that’s surprisingly cute, i bet schumi was a big hit in the paddock back in the day.”
“he sure was, he’s how i charmed max into not hating me after i took him out once,” y/n chuckled thinking back to the race where max stormed up to her with angry tears in his eyes until y/n practically threw schumi at him. in just five seconds, max had calmed down and schumi was happily purring in the young dutchman’s lap.
“that sounds like max. but speaking of the other young whippersnappers in the paddock, how is our lando treating you? i bet zak and that can’t keep up with you two…” daniel asked, slumping to the floor, taking one of her drinks from the mini fridge.
“oh. i am getting used to him, we’ll put it that way?”
“he’s not being rude is he?”
“no! well. he insists on calling me rookie and keeps making comments about me crashing into him and made fun of me taking notes in briefing but i’m sure that such the british banter.”
“you’re british?”
“well. um. yeah, you got me there.”
daniel grabbed her hands, forcing y/n to look him in the eyes rather than her very interesting shoes.
“i know lando is like some media darling, but so are you. don’t let him push you around, he may have been in this team a while but you’re just as good as him if not better. you’re here to prove yourself, not to play second fiddle, okay?”
it was the first time someone had actually tried to talk to her properly since getting to the paddock. again, tears climbed to her eyes, but this time she let one creep out. daniel wiped it away.
“we made the mistake of isolating max when he was young and new, we won’t make the same mistake - we can’t have two of you running rampant around here,” y/n let out a wet laugh which daniel returned, “just come to renault if you need anything from me. max will be there for you, you know, and seb, kimi, fernando and all the old men will listen to you. don’t rot in your drivers room or hotel suite and think you’re not wanted here.”
y/n nodded, feeling some butterflies in her stomach. she was actually here - a formula one driver. a seven-time race winner wants her here, world champions want her here. a private-school fuckboy wasn’t going to ruin her first ever race weeekend.
“thank you daniel.”
“i have to dash, but i’m serious, we’re here for you. and i would be honoured to kick that little shit’s ass for you, okay?”
the australian left in just as loud fashion as he came, but in the remaining silence, y/n finally felt some peace. this was her chance, and she wasn’t going to mess it up.
present.
y/n couldn’t let that happen to kimi. the young italian was just so unbelievably earnest in his letter that y/n couldn’t bear the thought of his kindness being taken advantage of. george russell had never been outwardly callous but with his attack on max late last season and his complete radio silence with y/n since her crash made her suspicious.
as she prepared to ask max for kimi’s number, sara (who did actually still have a job) sent her a link.
sara: zak brown believes mclaren has the strongest pairing on the grid with no more childish recklessness like in the early 2020s
sara: do you want us to put out a statement or ignore as usual?
y/n clicked on the link, even though she knew it would just annoy her to the point that her phone might become closely acquainted with the thames.
Tumblr media
as the formula one world gears up for the 2025 season, zak brown has already stated his confidence for mclaren this season. the papaya team will be coming into the 2025 season as reigning constructors champions and lando norris and oscar piastri will be aiming to add the world drivers championship to that as well.
when zak brown sat down with us earlier this week, the mclaren ceo did not beat around the bush, stating that mclaren have the strongest pairing on the grid. with red bull promoting liam lawson in a test and, mercedes putting unproven kimi antonelli next to george russell and ferrari gambling with charles leclerc and lewis hamilton, brown might just be right.
in their journey to constructors champions, brown recognised that as a team they had straightened out all of their ‘growing pains’. this is exemplified in oscar piastri completing all laps in the 2024 season.
like they usually do, y/n y/ln’s particularly rabid twitter fans will probably detect some ‘shade’ towards the former driver. brown did touch on the prior mclaren drivers during his reign as ceo, saying that the team had some childish recklessness, but now they have a team that all know their place.
y/n y/ln hasn’t spoken about anything formula one related since her retirement, even forgoing the opportunity to congratulate the team that took the chance on her for winning the championship - something brown did not mince his words on off camera. brown lamented about y/ln’s silence, labelling her a brat and ungrateful for not still thanking him for allowing a woman to compete in formula one.
will mclaren make it back-to-back constructors championships? and will they sweep both championships this season?

she needed that loud-mouthed american’s head on a silver platter. the letter had almost sucked her back into the world of formula one, only for the man who discarded her like a broken toy when his car had malfunctioned and smashed her and her career into a concrete wall to call her an ungrateful brat.
fuck him. fuck mclaren. and fuck that dumbass reporter for giving him the time of day.
y/n didn’t throw her phone from her balcony but pulled up her texts with max.
texts between y/n y/ln (bold) and max verstappen (italic)

dad’s got it covered
feat. simon riley
the soft clatter of pots and pans fills the kitchen as you stir the bubbling pot of pasta sauce. the warm aroma of garlic and herbs drifts through the house, mingling with the faint sound of the tv playing in the living room. amidst it all, your toddler’s tiny voice breaks through, high-pitched and filled with excitement.
“mummy, i want the braid! the one rapunzel has!” she calls from the couch, holding a toy brush in her small hands.
you glance over your shoulder, a small smile tugging at your lips. “later, sweetheart,” you say, your voice gentle but distracted. “mummy’s making dinner right now.”
there’s a pause, and then the sound of her humming to herself, followed by the occasional soft giggle. it’s enough to make you peek out of the kitchen, curiosity getting the better of you. what you see stops you in your tracks.
simon, your husband—your hulking, stoic husband—sits on the floor behind your daughter. his large hands, so used to wielding weapons and carrying the weight of the world, now work with a surprising delicacy. he’s carefully braiding her fine hair, his expression one of focused determination. your daughter is practically glowing, a radiant grin on her face as she chatters away, oblivious to how tender the moment is.
your heart softens, warmth blooming in your chest as you lean against the doorway, watching them. simon glances up briefly, catching your eye. there’s a flicker of something in his gaze—a mixture of pride and amusement.
“you’re lucky she doesn’t want the full rapunzel treatment,” he murmurs, his deep voice laced with dry humor. “i’d need a ladder.”
you laugh softly, shaking your head. “you’re doing great, love,” you say, meaning every word.
years pass in the blink of an eye. your little girl is no longer so little, and the house feels quieter, the once-constant chaos of toddler life now replaced by the rhythm of a teenager’s world. tonight, your daughter has a party to attend. she’d asked you earlier to iron her hair, a request you’d readily agreed to.
but somewhere between the dishes and the laundry, exhaustion crept in. you’d sat down for just a moment and fallen asleep. when you wake with a start, panic surges through you. you glance at the clock, your heart sinking as you realize how much time has passed.
“oh no,” you mutter, scrambling to your feet. “her hair—”
you rush out of the room, searching for her, guilt already gnawing at you. when you find her, the sight that greets you makes you stop short.
she’s sitting in front of the vanity in her room, scrolling casually through her phone. behind her stands simon, a flat iron in one hand and a comb in the other. his movements are slow and precise as he smooths out her hair, section by section.
your daughter barely looks up from her phone, her trust in her father’s meticulousness evident. but you can see it—the care in simon’s touch, the way he handles her hair like it’s the most delicate thing in the world. his expression is the same as it was all those years ago, when he braided her hair for the first time: focused, patient, and filled with an unspoken love.
your heart melts at the sight, the guilt dissolving into something softer, sweeter. leaning against the doorway, you smile to yourself, the memory of a tiny girl and a father’s careful hands blending seamlessly with the present.
“you’re amazing, you know that?” you say softly, your voice breaking the quiet.
simon glances at you, one corner of his mouth twitching up into a faint smirk. “just don’t expect me to start charging for haircuts,” he murmurs, his voice teasing but warm.
your daughter, still focused on her phone, rolls her eyes with a groan. “dad, you’re so lame.”
you laugh quietly, your heart full to bursting. watching them, you realize some things never change—and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

mornings
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: ADORE RHIS.
WARNINGS: probably very ooc, but WHO CARES. fluffy mornings w/ him (:
Tumblr media
As your eyes fluttered open, the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the kitchen and into the room. You heard the chirps of birds coming from the outside, the window wide open.
You sat up, stretching with a sigh, then standing up, small smile on your face as you walked into the living room to be greeted by the sight of your husband, making two cups for the both of you.
He turned around when he heard the pitter-patter of feet on the floorboards behind him, his own smile gracing his face when he saw you.
“Goodmorning.” He spoke, you going up to him, wrapping your arms around his body. A light chuckle escaped his mouth, him embracing you as well.
“Morning.” You murmured against his shoulder. You both stayed comfortably like that for a moment, before you pulled away, furrowing an eyebrow at the coffee cups next to him.
He picked one cup up, handing it to you, and he grabbed the other.
“Alright, what’s going on?” You asked suddenly, him shrugging and pursing his lips. You took the cup from his hand, putting it to your lips.
“What do you mean?” He asked,
“I always wake up before you. You never make coffee.”
“Guess I just...” he paused to take a sip, “felt like it this morning. A guy can’t love his wife so much he makes her coffee, now?”
“Never said that.” You laughed, making your way over to the table, pulling out a chair and sitting down, him sitting opposite of you.
He stared at you, watching you drink it with a smile on his face. You didn’t notice his staring until you looked back up, a nervous laugh escaping you.
“What?”
“Nothing. You’re just beautiful.” He commented, your cheeks heating up at the compliment. Despite you hearing it for years from him, it felt the same as it always did, and always managed to cause butterflies in your stomach.
“You are.” You replied, him laughing now.
“Oh? Am I?” He asked, eyebrows raised at your comment, amused smile remaining on his face.
“Mhm.” You hummed, raising the cup to your lips once again, him doing the same with an amused shake of his head.

the first time
tannyhill was eerily quiet, bathed in faint moonlight filtering through the windows. you stirred in rafe’s bed, his arm thrown over your waist like a weighted blanket, his slow breaths warm against your shoulder. for a moment, you lay there, staring at the ceiling, willing yourself to fall back asleep.
but then your stomach growled. loudly.
you winced, glancing over your shoulder to make sure rafe was still asleep. he was, his face half-buried in his pillow, completely oblivious to your plight.
biting your lip, you slowly shifted out from under his arm, careful not to disturb him. he groaned faintly in his sleep, mumbling something unintelligible, but didn’t wake up. you grabbed your phone from the nightstand and slipped out of the room, making your way downstairs.
the house was dark, and as you padded down the hallway, a strange sound made you freeze.
whispers.
you tilted your head, straining to hear. the voices were muffled, coming from the direction of the kitchen. for a split second, your brain went straight to the worst-case scenario: intruders.
grabbing the nearest ‘weapon’ (a decorative vase from a side table), you crept toward the kitchen, heart pounding. the whispers grew louder, accompanied by the distinct sound of rustling bags.
you tightened your grip on the vase, poking your head around the corner—and stopped dead in your tracks.
there, in the glow of the open pantry, stood sarah and wheezie, bickering in hushed tones as they dug through the shelves.
“what do you mean we don’t have oreos? you said there were oreos,” sarah was whispering, pulling out random boxes and shaking them.
“they were here yesterday!” wheezie replied, holding up a bag of chips. “just eat these.”
“no way. i don’t want something salty.”
still clutching the vase, you exhaled loudly, causing both of them to whip around, startled.
“uh… hi?” you said, setting the vase down and trying to calm your racing heart.
“hi?” sarah echoed, her hand frozen mid-reach into the pantry.
wheezie just blinked at you, her cheeks stuffed with chips like a squirrel caught hoarding food.
you looked between the two of them, raising an eyebrow. “so… we’re all just hungry?”
sarah raxed, crossing her arms as she leaned against the counter. “apparently.”
wheezie nodded, swallowing her mouthful of chips. “what are you doing down here? shouldn’t you be upstairs… with rafe?”
you shrugged, holding up the pack of buldak carbonara noodles you’d grabbed from the counter. “i got hungry. and, well, noodles.”
sarah squinted at the packaging. “wait, isn’t that the crazy spicy stuff?”
“it’s not crazy spicy—it’s creamy and amazing. big difference,” you corrected, already moving toward the kettle to start boiling water.
wheezie craned her neck to get a better look. “is it actually good? i always thought those things were just for people trying to punish themselves.”
“it’s the best late-night snack ever,” you said, putting a pot on the stove. “want to try some?”
wheezie’s eyes lit up. “yes. chips are boring.”
sarah made a face but eventually sighed. “fine. i’ll try a bite. but only because i want to understand the hype.”
as the water began to boil, you leaned against the counter, glancing between the two of them. “what are you guys even doing up? i thought i was the only weirdo sneaking around for snacks at midnight.”
“wheezie woke me up,” sarah said flatly, glaring at her sister.
“i was starving!” wheezie protested, clutching her chips defensively.
“you were also banging cabinet doors like a maniac,” sarah shot back. “it’s a miracle you didn’t wake the entire house.”
“fair,” wheezie admitted, taking another handful of chips.
you laughed, shaking your head as you poured the boiled water in the pan and put the noodles in as well. “honestly, i thought you were burglars or something.”
sarah smirked. “that would’ve been entertaining.”
“not for me!” wheezie exclaimed.
the three of you dissolved into quiet laughter, the tension of the moment melting away. when you poured some water away and added the cream, cheese and spices a rich and spicy aroma began to fill the air.
sarah tilted her head, smirking at you.
“you know rafe’s gonna freak when he wakes up and he can’t find you?”
“probably,” you said with a grin. “but he can survive for five minutes without me.”
“bold of you to assume,” sarah teased.
you set three bowls on the counter, handing one to each of them. wheezie immediately dug in, her eyes widening as she took her first bite.
“okay, wow, this is amazing,” she mumbled through a mouthful of noodles.
“told you,” you said smugly, taking a bite from your own bowl.
sarah hesitated but eventually took a small bite. her eyes widened slightly, and she cleared her throat, trying to play it cool. “it’s… decent.”
“decent?” you repeated, raising an eyebrow with a smile.
“fine. it’s amazing,” she admitted begrudgingly.
as you were sitting around the island, slurping noodles and swapping stories under the dim glow of the overhead light. sarah was making fun of wheezie for the way she held her chopsticks, while wheezie defended herself with half-coherent arguments between bites.
you were laughing so hard you nearly dropped your bowl when you heard the telltale sound of heavy, uncoordinated footsteps padding down the stairs.
all three of you froze, turning toward the doorway just as rafe stumbled in, his hair sticking out in every direction, his hoodie slightly askew. his half-lidded, sleepy eyes scanned the scene, his brows furrowing as he tried to make sense of what he was looking at.
“what the hell is going on?” he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.
“hi, baby,” you said, trying to stifle a laugh at how utterly confused he looked.
rafe blinked at you, his gaze shifting to sarah and wheezie, then to the bowls of noodles on the counter. “is this… a dream? am i—what?”
“nope, very real,” sarah quipped, taking another bite of her noodles. “welcome to the midnight noodle club.”
rafe rubbed a hand over his face, clearly trying to wake himself up. “i thought you were in bed,” he said, looking at you accusingly.
“i was,” you admitted, giving him an innocent smile. “but i got hungry. and, well, sarah and wheezie were already raiding the pantry, so…” you gestured at the spread of noodles like it explained everything.
rafe stared at the scene for a long moment, then pointed at the bowls. “are those the spicy noodles?”
“yes,” you said proudly.
he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “of course they are. why am i not surprised?”
“you want some?” you asked, holding up your bowl in offering.
rafe shook his head, though his lips quirked in a small smile. “nah, you can keep your torture food. i’m good.” he shuffled over to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder. “you left me for noodles?”
“i left you for the buldak carbonara noodles,” you corrected, twirling some noodles around your chopsticks and taking a bite.
“you’ve got issues,” he muttered, though there was no real heat in his voice.
“she fits right in,” sarah said, smirking at the two of you.
“clearly,” rafe muttered, glancing at his sisters. “what are you two doing awake anyway?”
wheezie shrugged, still focused on her bowl. “we got hungry.”
“and she woke me up,” sarah added, shooting wheezie a pointed look.
“whatever,” wheezie said with a mouthful of noodles. “these are worth it.”
rafe shook his head, his grip tightening slightly around your waist as he kissed your temple. “alright, noodle girl. finish up and come back to bed.”
“you could just sit and join us, you know,” you teased.
he smirked, leaning closer to whisper in your ear. “or i could carry you upstairs and steal you back.”
your face went warm, nudging him away playfully. “let me finish my noodles first, rafe.”
he sighed dramatically, but you could see the fondness in his eyes as he let go. “fine. ten more minutes.”
as rafe leaned against the counter, watching the three of you eat, you couldn’t help but smile to yourself.
Tumblr media
the second time
it was the middle of the night at tannyhill again, and once more, you found yourself lying in bed wide awake. rafe was snoring softly beside you, one arm slung possessively over your waist. for most people, this setup would’ve been the perfect invitation to drift off into peaceful dreams.
but not for you.
you stomach growled, and the craving hit you like a truck. buldak noodles.
it had been a week since the first midnight noodle escapade, and rafe hadn’t let you live it down. but this time, you promised yourself you’d be quick and quiet—no waking him, no recruiting his sisters. just you, your noodles, and a late-night craving.
sliding out of bed, you tiptoed out of the room and down the stairs. the house was silent. you slipped into the kitchen, grabbed your favorite noodle packet, and started boiling water.
as the water bubbled away, you heard a faint noise behind you. freezing mid-stir, you listened carefully. footsteps? whispers?
not again, you thought. for a moment, you were sure it was wheezie and sarah trying to raid the pantry like last time. but when you turned around, you saw two familiar figures sneaking in through the back door: sarah and john b.
both froze when they saw you standing there with a pot of boiling water and a packet of noodles in your hand.
“oh, hey,” john b said casually, as if it was totally normal to be sneaking into the house in the middle of the night.
“uh… hi?” you said, raising an eyebrow. “what are you two doing?”
sarah tossed her keys onto the counter, her expression completely unbothered. “we went to the beach. felt like a midnight swim.”
“in jeans and sneakers?” you asked, eyeing their less-than-swim-friendly outfits.
“okay, fine,” sarah admitted, pulling a stray leaf out of her hair. “we were climbing trees. john b’s idea.”
“climbing trees,” you repeated, deadpan.
“don’t look at me,” john b said, holding his hands up. “she started it.”
you sighed, setting the noodles aside for a moment. “and you thought sneaking back in through the back door at midnight wouldn’t look suspicious?”
“we didn’t think anyone would be awake,” sarah said, sliding onto a barstool. “what are you doing up anyway?”
“i got hungry,” you said simply, holding up the bright pink packet of noodles.
“is this your thing now?” she asked, smirking. “midnight noodles?”
“apparently.”
“i could get used to that,” she smiled as she sat down.
john b sniffed the air, his eyebrows raising. “what is that? smells good.”
“buldak carbonara,” you said proudly, grabbing the seasoning packets.
“spicy noodles?” he asked, looking intrigued.
“they’re creamy and spicy,” you corrected.
“want some?”
before john b could answer, sarah cut in. “you do not want that, john b. it’s her thing, and she’s obsessed, but trust me—it’s like eating fire.”
“it’s not that spicy!” you protested, tearing open the sauce packet.
“i had some last week,” sarah said, shaking her head. “pretty sure i saw my life flash before my eyes.”
“if you’re making it as spicy as last time, i’m out. that stuff nearly killed me.”
john b snorted. “now i kinda want to try it.”
you rolled your eyes but grabbed a second packet, adjusting the ratio of sauce for her and john b’s bowls. “fine. i’ll make a mild version for the babies,” you teased.
“thank you,” sarah said, watching skeptically as you stirred the sauce into the noodles.
once the noodles were ready, you served up three bowls—yours with the full kick, and theirs with a more toned-down spice level. sarah and john b eyed their bowls suspiciously at first, but after a few tentative bites, they both relaxed.
“okay, this is actually good,” sarah admitted, twirling more noodles onto her fork.
john b nodded enthusiastically. “yeah, this is solid. creamy, just a little spicy—perfect.”
you smirked, taking a bite of your own bowl. “told you. midnight noodles are superior.”
“alright, i’ll give you that,” sarah said with a grin. “but only if you keep making it like this. none of that fire-breathing dragon nonsense.”
“no promises,” you said, winking.
the three of you were mid-laugh—sarah nearly choking on her noodles as john b tried to recount the time he got stuck in a tree—when the familiar sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the stairs.
you froze, chopsticks halfway to your mouth.
“uh-oh,” sarah whispered, her eyes darting toward the doorway.
“don’t ‘uh-oh’ me,” you hissed back. “he won’t care.”
“i don’t know…” sarah said, a smirk already forming on her face.
before you could argue, rafe appeared in the doorway, looking half-asleep and entirely unimpressed. his hair stuck out in all directions, and he was wearing the same hoodie he’d been in earlier, though it looked like he’d thrown it on backward in his haste. His squinting eyes scanned the scene: you, sarah, john b, and three bowls of noodles.
for a second, he just stood there, rubbing his face like he couldn’t believe this was happening again.
“really?” he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep. “this is a regular thing now?”
“hi, baby,” you said, trying not to laugh at the way his brow furrowed.
ryafe’s eyes zeroed in on you first. “you ditched me for noodles. again.”
then his gaze shifted to sarah, who was grinning around her chopsticks. “you, i expected,” he said flatly.
finally, his eyes landed on john b, who had the audacity to look sheepish. “but you, john b? really, bro? midnight noodles with my girlfriend?”
john b put his hands up defensively, a noodle dangling from his chopsticks. “hey, man, she offered. i wasn’t gonna say no.”
“unbelievable,” rafe muttered, walking into the kitchen and leaning against the counter. “first my sisters, now you. what’s next? dad sneaking down for a bowl?”
sarah snorted. “dad’s too boring for this. but wheezie’s probably mad she missed it.”
“don’t give her ideas,” rafe grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose before looking back at you. “i thought we had a deal. you wake me up if you’re leaving bed.”
you smirked, twirling some noodles onto your chopsticks. “and ruin the surprise? come on, babe.”
rafe sighed dramatically, running a hand through his messy hair. “at this point, i’m not even mad about the noodles. i’m mad that everyone’s in on this except me.”
“you’re welcome to join,” you offered, sliding the half-finished pot of noodles toward him.
he looked at it skeptically. “did you make it with that insane sauce again?”
“nope,” you said sweetly. “mild, just for sarah and john b.”
sarah nodded eagerly, her mouth full. “it’s really good. you should try it.”
john b held up his bowl. “yeah, man. it’s fire—but, like, the good kind. not the ‘i need milk’ kind.”
rafe hesitated, then sighed, grabbing a fork from the drawer. “fine. but if this is some kind of trick…”
“it’s not,” you promised, watching as he took a small bite.
to your delight, rafe’s eyebrows lifted slightly, and he nodded. “alright. this is actually good.”
“told you,” you said smugly, taking another bite from your own bowl.
rafe shook his head, a faint smirk tugging at his lips as he grabbed a barstool and sat beside you. “i swear, you’re corrupting this entire house.”
“just making it more fun,” you said with a wink.
the four of you spent the next half hour sharing noodles and banter, the feeling of rafe’s initial annoyance melting away. by the time the pot was empty, even rafe seemed to admit that midnight noodles weren’t the worst tradition to start.
and as you leaned into his side, your bowl empty and your stomach full, you couldn’t help but smile. midnight chaos, sleepy rafe, and noodles—what more could you ask for?
Tumblr media
the third time
the house was silent, and the air was still, except for the soft snores of your boyfriend beside you. you glanced at rafe, his face half-buried in the pillow, the rise and fall of his chest slow and steady.
you tried. you really did.
gently nudging his shoulder, you whispered, “rafe… babe, i’m hungry.”
nothing.
you shook him a little harder. “rafe, come on. midnight noodles?”
still nothing.
letting out a sigh, you stared at him for a moment, debating your next move. but his peaceful expression convinced you otherwise—it wasn’t worth waking the grumpy side of rafe cameron just for noodles.
so, you slipped out of bed, grabbed a hoodie, and padded downstairs, the craving for your beloved buldak carbonara too strong to ignore.
the kitchen was eerily quiet. it felt strange not having sarah, wheezie, or even john b around, their late-night antics usually keeping the house alive. you moved quietly, grabbing a pot and filling it with water. the pantry drawer creaked softly as you pulled it open to retrieve your prized noodle packet.
but just as you reached for it—
“ooh, are we making noodles again?”
you let out a startled yelp, spinning around to see wheezie standing there, her arms crossed and a mischievous grin plastered across her face.
“wheezie! what the hell? you scared me!” you hissed quietly, clutching the packet like it was your lifeline.
she shrugged, completely unbothered. “you were loud. i heard the drawer.”
“you are supposed to be asleep.”
“please,” she whined, hopping onto a barstool. “i’ve been waiting for this. i’m still mad i missed it last time.”
you groaned, setting the pot on the stove and turning on the heat. “okay, fine. but this time, you’re helping.”
“deal,” wheezie said, practically bouncing off the stool to join you. “what do i do?”
“start by getting the bowls,” you instructed, grabbing the scissors to cut open the noodle packet.
as wheezie rummaged through the cabinet, she started her mini rant. “sarah told me all about last time, by the way. midnight noodles with you, her, and john b? and nobody thought to wake me up? rude.”
she was midway through her mini rant, waving the sauce packet for emphasis, when a voice interrupted from the doorway.
“this, again?”
you froze, chopsticks clutched in your hand, and slowly turned toward the source. standing there, looking far too amused for someone who was supposedly asleep, was ward cameron himself.
wheezie nearly dropped the sauce packet. “dad?”
you tried to play it cool, giving him your best innocent look. “huh? again? no idea what you’re talking about.”
ward stepped into the kitchen, arms crossed and a sly smile on his face. “who do you think cleans this up in the morning? or keeps restocking the noodles? you guys go through five packs at a time.”
wheezie gasped, whipping around to face you. “you knew!”
ward chuckled, shaking his head. “of course, i knew.”
you winced, trying to salvage the situation. “well… uh, thank you for restocking?”
wheezie, recovering quickly, grinned. “wait, so you don’t care?”
“i didn’t say that,” ward replied, giving her a pointed look. “but i figured it was harmless. midnight noodles are better than midnight parties, i guess.”
before you could respond, another voice chimed in from behind him.
“ooh, it’s midnight noodle time?”
you turned to see sarah stroll into the kitchen, her hair messy and a gleam of excitement in her eyes. she took one look at the scene—the noodles, the bowls, and ward standing there—and grinned. “guess i came down at the perfect time.”
wheezie raised an eyebrow. “you weren’t even awake five minutes ago.”
“i have a sixth sense for these things,” sarah said smugly, grabbing a bowl and plopping herself onto a stool.
ward sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose but still smiling. “this house…” he muttered under his breath, though he didn’t leave.
you decided to just embrace the chaos, handing sarah the next sauce packet. “fine. let’s make it a semi-family noodle night, i guess.”
“finally,” wheezie said, grinning as she helped stir the pot.
“i’m not making my own, though,” sarah declared, leaning on the counter. “this is your thing.”
“you’re so lazy,” wheezie muttered, but she passed the finished noodles to you for seasoning anyway.
as the four of you stood there—cooking, laughing, and chatting—the kitchen felt strangely cozy. ward shared stories about catching rafe sneaking snacks as a kid, wheezie kept complaining about how long it took her to get in on the noodle tradition, and sarah teased you about how you’d turned her boyfriend’s house into a late-night ramen hub.
when the noodles were finally ready, the four of you sat down to eat, the conversation flowing easily.
“this is actually really good,” ward admitted after a few bites, surprising everyone.
“you’re just figuring that out now?” wheezie teased, twirling noodles onto her fork.
sarah leaned toward you conspiratorially, repeating rafe’s words from the last time. “you’ve corrupted the entire family.”
you laughed, glancing at ward, who just shook his head with a bemused smile. “maybe,” you said. “but at least we’re all well-fed.”
the kitchen was alive with laughter and the clinking of chopsticks against bowls. wheezie was dramatically recounting her missed opportunity during the last noodle night, sarah was making snarky comments between bites, and ward was suspiciously quiet as he polished off his bowl.
“dad, you’re eating like you’ve been waiting for this all day,” sarah teased, nudging his arm.
“not true,” ward replied, his tone far too casual to be convincing. “it’s just good.”
you were mid-bite when the sound of footsteps echoed down the stairs. everyone froze, turning toward the doorway.
there stood rose cameron, her silk robe tied snugly around her waist, her hair perfectly in place despite the late hour. she took in the scene before her: ward sitting at the island with an empty bowl, sarah and wheezie slurping cheesy noodles, and you standing at the stove stirring yet another batch.
her expression was a mixture of confusion and mild exasperation.
“what is going on here?” she demanded, crossing her arms.
wheezie, unfazed, waved her chopsticks in the air. “midnight noodles. want some?”
rose blinked, clearly processing the absurdity of the situation. “i beg your pardon?”
“midnight noodles,” sarah repeated, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. “it’s kind of a thing now.”
rose’s gaze shifted to ward, her eyebrows lifting. “and you’re okay with this?”
ward shrugged, completely unbothered. “it’s harmless. besides, they’re good. you should try some.”
“harmless?” rose echoed, gesturing to the cluttered counter and sink full of pots. “do you know how much cleanup this is going to take?”
“i’ll clean it up,” you offered quickly, not wanting to face her full wrath.
rose gave you a pointed look, then sighed, shaking her head. “i swear, this family is impossible.”
“oh, come on, rose,” ward said, a teasing lilt in his voice. “live a little. have some noodles.”
sarah snorted into her bowl. “yeah, rose. don’t knock it till you try it.”
wheezie chimed in, grinning. “i mean, if dad’s eating it, you know it’s worth it.”
rose hesitated, clearly debating whether to shut the whole thing down or give in. finally, with an exasperated sigh, she threw up her hands. “fine. one bowl. but only to see what all this fuss is about.”
wheezie practically cheered as you quickly made a fresh serving for rose, this time dialing back the spice even more. she accepted the bowl reluctantly, sitting down at the island with the rest of the family.
as she took her first bite, everyone watched with bated breath.
“well?” sarah asked, smirking.
rose chewed slowly, her face giving nothing away. then, to everyone’s surprise, she nodded. “it’s… not bad.”
“not bad?” wheezie repeated, laughing. “that’s basically a rave review coming from you.”
rose rolled her eyes but took another bite, and the conversation picked up again, the kitchen filled with warmth and chaos.
when the pot was finally empty, rose stood up, brushing imaginary crumbs off her robe. “i’m going back to bed. and this better be spotless by morning.”
“yes, ma’am,” you said with a mock salute, earning a laugh from sarah and wheezie.
as rose disappeared up the stairs, ward leaned back in his chair, smirking. “told you she’d like it.”
before anyone could respond, the sound of slow, deliberate footsteps came from the hallway.
and then rafe appeared, leaning against the doorway, his hair sticking up at wild angles, his hoodie half on and his face a mix of confusion and irritation. he squinted at the scene before him: ward sitting with an empty bowl, wheezie and sarah with noodles in hand, and you standing at the stove with chopsticks in one hand and a sheepish expression on your face.
“i really don’t like this,” rafe said, his voice groggy. he gestured vaguely to the kitchen. “this is happening again? and you didn’t wake me again?”
“hi, baby,” you said with an awkward smile.
rafe just blinked at you, his expression unimpressed. “no, seriously. you’re downstairs, eating noodles with my entire family, and i’m… asleep?”
you shrugged, trying to keep a straight face. “i tried to wake you! you’re a very heavy sleeper, rafe.”
“that’s not—” rafe started, but sarah interrupted with a laugh.
“oh, don’t pout, rafe. you missed it because you sleep like a rock.”
wheezie grinned, pointing her chopsticks at him. “she’s right. we’re over here having the time of our lives, and you’re drooling into your pillow.”
“i don’t drool,” rafe said defensively, glaring at wheezie before turning his attention back to you. “you could’ve tried harder to wake me up.”
“i shook you! i whispered! i even said, ‘midnight noodles,’ and you didn’t budge!” you said, laughing now. “at some point, i had to just accept defeat.”
rafe let out an exaggerated sigh, running a hand down his face. “unbelievable. first wheezie and Sarah then sarah and john b, now my dad and wheezie and sarah again? what’s next, rose?”
“already happened,” sarah said, smirking. “she had a bowl. loved it.”
rafe stared at her, then at ward, who gave him a shrug and a knowing look.
“even rose?” rafe said, his voice bordering on betrayal. “really?”
“welcome to the club,” ward said with a chuckle. “you’re late, son.”
rafe groaned, walking into the kitchen and flopping onto a stool next to you. “fine. where’s mine?”
you grinned, handing him the last bowl you’d prepared. “right here. but it’s the mild version. i wasn’t about to make a new batch just for you.”
he took the bowl with a grumble but didn’t hesitate to dig in, the familiar taste of the noodles clearly softening his irritation.
“see? now everyone’s happy,” you said, leaning against his shoulder.
rafe looked at you, still chewing, and muttered, “barely.”
sarah rolled her eyes. “oh, calm down. you’re here now. the chaos is complete.”
Tumblr media
bonus
it had been one of those long, exhausting days. you’d been running around, working on a million things at once—picking up groceries, answering calls, finishing tasks, and just trying to survive the whirlwind. by the time you and rafe finally collapsed into bed, you were wiped out, barely able to keep your eyes open. you fell asleep almost instantly, the weight of the past few days finally catching up to you.
rafe woke up a few hours later, his stomach growling in hunger. the soft moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a silvery glow on the room. je groggily turned toward you, only to find you sound asleep, your body curled up against the blankets.
he smiled softly at how peaceful you looked, but his stomach was practically screaming for food. he nudged you lightly, hoping you might stir—after all, you had made a habit of late-night noodles together.
“babe,” he whispered, giving your shoulder a gentle shake. “baby, you awake?”
but there was no response. you were out cold, snoring softly in a way that made it clear you weren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
he sighed. “you’ve got to be kidding me.”
a deep hunger gnawed at him, and despite the temptation to just sleep through it, he couldn't ignore his cravings. grumbling under his breath, he got out of bed, slipping into a pair of sweatpants and making his way downstairs.
rafe padded down the stairs, grumbling to himself. he could always just raid the pantry, but that wasn’t going to fill him up in the same way. he paused at the kitchen drawer and opened it, scanning for something sweet. when his eyes landed on a few cookies tucked in the corner, he grabbed one and took a bite, savoring the sugar for a moment.
still not enough to satisfy him.
he closed the drawer and walked further into the kitchen, noticing the faint light coming from the living room. there, sitting around the coffee table, were sarah, kiara, wheezie, and ward—all waiting expectantly.
when sarah heard the sound of footsteps approaching, she shot up, excited. “finally—”
she froze when she saw who it was. “oh. it’s just rafe.”
rafe rolled his eyes, taking a bite of his cookie and leaning against the doorframe. “yeah, thanks for the warm welcome. can’t a guy just get a midnight snack?”
“and what are you doing here, kie?”
kiara, sitting cross-legged on the couch, flashed him a wide grin. “well, i couldn’t miss it. i heard so much about this midnight noodle thing from sarah that i had to try it myself.” she gave sarah a playful nudge. “i heard it’s become a legendary tradition in this family.”
wheezie grinned softly. “oh, it’s definitely legendary.” she took her chopsticks and tapped them dramatically against the counter as she readied the noodles. “we’ve been having these late-night noodle sessions since last month. but guess who helped start this? me.”
rafe looked at her with an eyebrow raised, still processing the whole situation. “so, you guys just wait for me to wake up to make noodles?”
“no,” sarah chimed in, “we wait for you to wake up so we can eat noodles. it’s a whole process, you know.”
rafe was about to make a snarky remark when he felt his stomach growl loudly again. “alright, alright. i’m hungry. but seriously, i tried to wake up my girlfriend, and she’s a rock.”
“you couldn’t wake y/n up?” kiara asked, her brows furrowing.
“yeah,” rafe sighed, running a hand through his messy hair. “she didn’t budge. i was this close to dumping a glass of water on her just to get a response.”
wheezie looked over at him with a raised brow. “you should’ve just offered her some noodles. you know, she never says no to these.”
rafe frowned. “that’s not the point, wheeze.”
he leaned back against the counter, still holding his cookie. he glanced over at his dad, who was sitting casually on the couch, watching the chaos unfold with a hint of amusement.
“okay, so i tried to wake her up,” rafe added, running a hand through his hair. “but she’s completely dead to the world. like, no reaction.”
ward raised an eyebrow, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “well, if she doesn’t wake up, who’s gonna make the noodles?”
the entire house went quiet for a moment. everyone turned to look at each other, the realization hitting them all at once. without you, there would be no noodles. the dreaded no noodle night.
wheezie, ever the problem-solver, jumped to her feet. “we can do it. right, sarah? we’ve got this. we’ve watched her do it like a thousand times.”
sarah stared at her, blinking in disbelief. “are you crazy?” she said, her voice incredulous. “none of us can make the noodles like she does! you think we’re capable of pulling off the perfect midnight noodle recipe? you’re out of your mind.”
wheezie held up her hands, trying to calm the storm. “no, seriously. it’s simple. boil water, add noodles, dump away some water, add cheese and cream, dump in the sauce. done.”
“yeah, except we always argue over how much of sauce to use,” sarah countered, throwing her hands in the air.
“okay, but we have to use right ingredients now,” wheezie said, her confidence growing. “i mean, last time y/n wasn’t here, was a disaster because you decided to add soy sauce to everything.”
“i was going for flavor,” sarah shot back defensively. “you just don’t understand the artistry of seasoning.”
kie, who had been quietly observing, suddenly broke in with a laugh. “honestly, i’d like to see you try, wheezie. if you can make them as good as she does, i’ll eat the whole pot.” she was clearly egging them on, just to see where this would go.
rafe glanced between his dad, sister, and the others, amused by the chaos. “i think they’re underestimating you, wheeze. you might be onto something.”
wheezie flashed a smug smile. “exactly! i’ve got this. just leave it to me.” she pulled out the packets of noodles, looking at sarah for confirmation. “so, are we doing the spicy ones, or the mild ones this time?”
sarah sighed dramatically. “i told you, we’re doing mild. mild. we don’t need another spicy incident like last time.”
“can we do both?” kiara interjected, leaning forward from the couch. “it’s not that hard, right?”
“yeah, no, we can’t,” sarah replied, arms crossed. “if we mix flavors, it’ll be a disaster. like last time.”
wheezie’s eyes narrowed. “you ruined the noodles last time, not me.”
“i did not ruin them,” sarah snapped back. “you ruined them by adding too much sauce, and then they were like… liquid lava. you can't make noodles that spicy.”
“it’s the right amount of spice!” wheezie shot back. “if you can’t handle it, that’s on you!”
“okay, okay,” rafe said, stepping between them, looking a little exasperated. “how about we just stick to one thing and avoid turning this into a nuclear war?” he glanced at ward, who was sitting quietly at the table, clearly enjoying the chaos. “dad, tell them it’s not worth arguing over noodles.”
ward took a slow sip of his drink and grinned. “i’m just here for the noodles, kid. not getting involved in this one.”
it was clear that, in this family, noodles became a big deal. and while he wasn’t sure they’d survive the night without you, it seemed they were determined to try. all of them deiced to move towards the kitchen, watching the scene unfold before them as wheezie and sarah tried to make the noodles.
“alright,” rafe said, grabbing a chair and sitting down at the table. “i’ll just sit back and watch this trainwreck.” he looked at kiara. “if they mess this up, we’re all gonna starve.”
kiara grinned and took a seat next to him. “i’m here for the drama.”
wheezie set the pot on the stove, clearly in charge now. “watch and learn, people.” she added the noodles with a flourish, clearly more confident than anyone else in the room.
sarah crossed her arms. “i’m just saying, if this goes south, i’m not taking the blame.”
wheezie rolled her eyes. “trust me, it’ll be perfect.”
ward watched the entire scene with a quiet smile, shaking his head. “i can’t wait to see how this ends.”
as they started getting the noodles cooking, chaos resumed. sarah grabbed the spoon to stir the pot, only to have wheezie take it from her and dramatically announce, “you’re stirring wrong. you’ve got to spin it, not just swirl it around like you’re mixing a salad.”
“oh, seriously, can we just cook the noodles?” sarah groaned, rolling her eyes. “you make everything more complicated than it needs to be.”
“i’m just trying to make sure we don’t ruin the noodles, alright?” wheezie shot back, obviously taking her task very seriously.
Tumblr media
you stirred awake, groggy and slightly disoriented, as faint sounds drifted up the stairs. it started as a low hum of voices, but as you became more alert, it was unmistakably the sound of laughter, bickering, and... was that a pot clanging?
you glanced over at rafe’s side of the bed and found it empty. typical. his late-night hunger strikes again. sitting up, you stretched and yawned, your stomach grumbling faintly as if to agree with your decision to investigate.
quietly padding down the stairs, you followed the familiar smell of something spicy and savory. the closer you got to the kitchen, the more chaotic the scene revealed itself to be.
the first thing you saw was rafe and ward sitting at the table, both looking more amused than anything else. rafe was slouched in his chair, arms crossed over his chest, clearly over the chaos, while ward nursed a glass of something that was definitely not water, a small smirk playing on his lips.
but that wasn’t all.
kiara was the next to catch your eye. she stood up the moment she saw you, beaming. “hey! you’re awake!” she said, crossing the room in a few steps to pull you into a warm hug. “we missed you for the start of this noodle madness.”
“what... what is even happening here?” you asked groggily, still half-asleep as you glanced around.
“welcome to the show,” rafe called from the table, flashing you a lopsided grin. “apparently, if you don’t wake up to make noodles, the entire house loses its mind.”
at the stove, wheezie and sarah were engaged in what could only be described as a full-on noodle battle. wheezie was stirring a pot while sarah tried to take over, her voice rising with irritation.
“you’re stirring it wrong!” sarah snapped, reaching for the spoon in wheezie’s hand. “you’re not mixing the sauce properly. it’s gonna be uneven!”
“excuse me, i know what i’m doing!” wheezie retorted, pulling the spoon back. “you’re the one who always burns it. back off!”
“i don’t burn it!” sarah shouted, throwing her hands up dramatically. “i caramelize it for flavor!”
“that’s just fancy talk for burning it!” wheezie shot back.
you blinked, taking it all in. “is this... about noodles?”
“yup,” kie said with a laugh, guiding you toward the table. “and it’s been like this for almost twenty minutes. honestly, i don’t know how they haven’t burned the kitchen down yet.”
“they might still,” ward said casually, taking a slow sip from his glass. he gestured toward the chaos. “this is what happens when you don’t wake up. no one can agree on anything.”
“i tried to wake you,” rafe chimed in, shrugging. “you didn’t even budge. you were out cold.”
you gave him a small, apologetic smile as you slid into the chair beside him. “it’s been a long day. i didn’t even hear you.”
“well,” rafe said with a smirk, leaning closer, “now you can witness this mess firsthand.”
your stomach growled, pulling your focus back to the kitchen. “are they even close to being done?”
“define ‘close,’” rafe replied, gesturing toward the stove where the two sister were still fighting over the sauce packet.
“i’m adding all of it,” wheezie declared, her voice resolute as she began to tear open the packet.
“no, you’re not!” sarah said, grabbing her wrist. “do you want everyone’s mouths to catch fire? we’re adding half—half!”
“it’s not my fault you can’t handle spice!” wheezie quipped, holding the packet out of sarah’s reach.
“stop!” you called, finally stepping in. “wheezie, sarah, just—let me do it, okay? sit down before you two kill each other over noodles.”
they both froze, blinking at you like children caught misbehaving. Reluctantly, sarah handed you the spoon while wheezie stepped back, muttering, “i was doing fine, but okay.”
you took over, quickly finishing the noodles with a practiced ease. in no time, the pot was off the stove, and you were dividing the steaming noodles into bowls.
as you placed a bowl in front of rafe, he gave you a look of pure gratitude. “this is why i need you, babe. no one else can handle these lunatics.”
ward chuckled. “true. if you hadn’t come down, we might’ve been here all night.”
kie grinned, holding up her chopsticks. “well, i’m glad i stayed for this. midnight noodles are officially my new favorite thing.”
sarah huffed, still glaring at wheezie. “next time, we’re doing it my way.”
“not if i get to the kitchen first,” wheezie shot back, smirking.
you rolled your eyes playfully as you took a seat beside rafe, finally ready to enjoy the meal. “remind me to never sleep through this again.”
“please don’t,” he said, leaning over to steal a bite from your bowl. “i don’t think my sanity can take another night like this.”
with laughter echoing around the room and the comforting warmth of noodles filling the air, you couldn’t help but smile. midnight noodles were chaotic, ridiculous, and absolutely perfect in their own way.

+ one time he cooks for you
the house was unusually quiet, with rose and ward away in the bahamas for business, wheezie holed up in her room, and sarah at the chateau with john b. normally, the lack of chaos would’ve been a treat, but today, the stillness only amplified how awful you felt. you were bundled up in a blanket on the couch, sniffling and surrounded by a collection of crumpled tissues, trying to find some comfort in the familiar melodies of frozen 2.
rafe sat beside you, his arm draped lazily across the back of the couch, occasionally glancing at you with concern. “you need anything, baby?” he asked softly, careful not to disturb you too much.
you sniffled, curling further into your fluffy blanket. “i’m kinda hungry,” you admitted, your voice hoarse.
he gave you a small smile. “alright, i’ve got this. how about your favorite noodles?”
your face lit up, despite your exhaustion, and you nodded. “that sounds amazing.”
rafe stood up, stretching briefly before leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead. “be right back,” he murmured, heading for the stairs. quietly, he knocked on wheezie’s door, sticking his head in when she called out. “hey, i’m making noodles for her. you wanna help?”
wheezie’s eyes lit up immediately. “obviously. let’s go!”
the two of them got to work in the kitchen, keeping their voices low and trying not to make too much noise. wheezie buzzed with excitement, pulling out the noodles and sauces while rafe set a pot of water on the stove.
“don’t forget to stir it, or it’ll stick to the bottom,” wheezie reminded him, sounding like a seasoned pro.
“i know,i know, wheeze” rafe said, rolling his eyes but smiling. “you’re not the noodle boss here.”
“actually, i am,” wheezie retorted, sticking her tongue out at him. “you just don’t wanna admit it.”
suddenly, the front door opened, and john b’s voice echoed down the hall. “anyone home?”
sarah’s voice followed. “oh my gosh, it smells so good in here.”
“living room!” you called weakly, pulling the blanket tighter around yourself as they appeared in the doorway.
sarah gasped when she saw you. “oh no, my baby, what happened to you? you look awful.”
“gee, thanks,” you said, smiling faintly. “just a cold. nothing dramatic.”
john b plopped down in the armchair while sarah sat on the edge of the couch near your feet. her eyes flicked to the tv. “frozen 2 again?”
“it’s her favorite,” rafe called from the kitchen, his voice full of affection.
“it’s the best,” you said passionately, sitting up a little. “the music is incredible, the animation is stunning, and elsa’s whole journey of self-discovery—ugh, it’s just perfect.”
sarah smiled. “okay, until olaf’s whole ‘dying’ scene. that was devastating and uncalled for.”
you nodded fervently. “don’t remind me. i cry every single time.”
john b chimed in. “but he comes back! like, i get it’s sad, but he’s fine in the end.”
“that doesn’t make it less emotional,” you countered. “and don’t even get me started on elsa being an absolute badass in the glacier. her solo scene? literal chills—no pun intended.”
sarah laughed. “i think you’ve seen this movie too many times.”
“not possible,” you said firmly. “the frozen movies are cinematic perfection.”
“alright, noodle delivery!” rafe interrupted, entering the room with a pot in his hands. wheezie trailed behind him, carrying extra napkins and plates.
“for the first time in forever—” wheezie began to sing, only for rafe to cut her off.
“nope. we’re not doing that.”
“but it’s perfect!” wheezie protested as she set the napkins down. “you’re no fun.”
the noodles smelled amazing, and you wasted no time digging in, the spicy warmth soothing your throat. everyone else followed suit, and for the first time ever, you all ate together on the couch, passing bowls and joking about the movie.
as the night wore on, your exhaustion crept back in. your head gradually drifted to rafe’s shoulder, your bowl empty in your lap. he adjusted his position slightly, careful not to wake you, and wrapped an arm around you protectively.
“out like a light,” john b said, nodding toward you with a small smile.
rafe glanced down at you, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “she’s had a rough day,” he said quietly. “she deserves some rest.”
sarah pulled a blanket over you both. “she’s got a good one, rafe. don’t screw it up.”
he chuckled softly, his hand resting on your arm. “yeah,” he murmured, more to himself than anyone else. “i know.”
and with the movie’s credits rolling in the background, the warm camaraderie of the group filled the quiet house, leaving the night feeling cozy and perfect.

You can’t breathe, it’s the only thing you can think of as the door swings open and your pulled into the house, you can’t breathe, you can’t get any oxygen into your lungs as they try desperately to get you to clam down, as they try desperately to try and understand what’s going on but you can’t speak because you can’t breathe and in a moment of panic they shout “I’m calling Leah ok.” That seems to help a bit as you let out a gasped no.
They looked confused as you still try to draw in a breath but you don’t want them to call Leah and that doesn’t seem to make any sense, nothing you gasp out is making any sense “it-it won’t-it won’t fit.” You’re lent over the counter your palms pushing into the cool top trying to ground yourself “it-it won’t fit.” You say again “her ring-her ring it-it won’t.” You feel light headed now but a voice in the back of your head screams at you that you’re not just breathing for yourself, you’re breathing for your baby and that seems to flip a switch as you place a protective hand on your stomach.
“Her ring-Leah’s ring it-it doesn’t fit.” Leah grabby looks at you eyebrows scrunched together in confusion “her wedding band, of course it fits darling.” You shake your head “It’s not her ring Granny, I-she.” You feel your stomach twist again as Leah’s granny tries to understand what’s going on.
“She’s cheating on me-Leah’s cheating on me.” Granny feels her blood run cold as her face drops “that’s-are you sure.” You nod as the pieces play in your head “she-she wasn’t wearing her ring- I told her I’d take it-her-she said her hand was swelling from practice and when I went to put it on-it doesn’t fit.” Granny can see the struggle, the way your hunched over scared that if you let go of the counter that the world will slip away. She sees your hand grasping at your stomach protectively and she herself starts to feel nauseous.
“Where is the ring Y/n.” You shake your head at the memory “I-i-SHE wears it around her neck.” Granny reaches for your hand grasping it tightly “who darling.” A tear tracks its way down your cheek “the girl she’s sleeping with.” Granny freezes, that ring had seen forty five years of pure love and happiness it was given to Leah so she could show it the same instead it’s been disgraced.
“I-what-what do I do.” You ask as granny leads you to the couch “I-i-we were supposed to have a baby.” Granny feels her heartbreak at your quieting voice “I was going to tell her it worked, that-that I’m pregnant.”
You’re so overwhelmed that you don’t notice granny calling Amanda, or the rest of your family, you don’t notice the blanket she’s draped over you and you definitely don’t notice that you’ve fallen asleep until you wake up to voices in the kitchen.
“I-how did she end up like this, I mean why would she do something like this to her marriage, to Y/n.” Amanda looks shell shocked as she sits talking to granny her hands wrapped around a mug “Do you think she’ll let us still see the baby.”
You place your hand over your stomach again “I-I can’t do this on my own .” You say stepping forward Amanda turns to you standing in the hallway “I-please don’t make me do this alone.”

Healing Love
Alexia Putellas x Reader
It was early in the morning when you stirred from your sleep, the warmth of the blankets cocooning you in comfort. For a moment, you thought you might just drift back off, but then you realized something felt... off. You shifted slightly, blinking into the soft glow of the morning light creeping through the curtains. Alexia wasn’t next to you.
You frowned, glancing at the clock on your nightstand. 4:00 AM.
That was unusual. Alexia was always up early, but not this early. Even for her, 4 AM was pushing it. You turned over, stretching, and instinctively reached for her side of the bed. Empty.
A bit groggy, you swung your legs out of bed, rubbing your eyes. Something didn’t sit right with you. It wasn’t like her to get up at such an early hour without saying anything. You pulled on a loose t-shirt and quietly padded down the hall, hoping to find her in the bathroom or the kitchen.
You checked the bathroom first, but it was empty. Confused now, you stepped into the living room, your footsteps barely audible on the hardwood floor. That’s when you saw her.
Alexia was lying on the couch, covered by a thin throw blanket. She had one arm draped over her forehead, her face relaxed, but she didn’t look comfortable. Her body was contorted in a way that made you frown—she usually hated sleeping in strange positions, always preferring the bed. You couldn’t help but wonder why she was out here.
Your thoughts raced. Had you fought the night before? No, everything had been fine. You’d spent a quiet evening together—no arguments, no tension. So why was she on the couch?
Before you could think too deeply about it, Alexia suddenly broke into a violent coughing fit, her body jerking with each breath.
Without thinking, you rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water. Your hands were steady, but a sense of dread filled you as you returned to her side. You kneeled down beside the couch and offered her the glass. She took it gratefully, drinking slowly, her coughing eventually subsiding.
It was then that you noticed something strange. You weren’t touching her, but you could feel the heat radiating from her body, the warmth almost palpable.
You gently placed your hand on her forehead, and the moment you made contact, your heart sank. She was burning up with fever. You immediately checked her face—pale, with a glossy sheen to her eyes, and her lips cracked from dehydration.
"Lex," you said softly, concern clear in your voice. "You’ve got a fever."
Her voice was raspy when she answered. “Thank you... for the water,” she murmured weakly.
You sat down next to her, running your fingers through her hair. “You should be in bed, not out here on the couch. What happened?”
She looked at you, her eyes a bit unfocused. "I didn’t want to wake you," she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I thought you needed rest.”
You raised an eyebrow, not buying it for a second. “No, you need rest, not me. I’m staying with you.” You could feel the protective instincts kicking in, the same ones that always came when Alexia wasn’t well.
She tried to protest, her voice hoarse. “It’s not necessary. I have training soon... I’m fine, just a little cold, I’ll be okay.”
You frowned, not amused. "Training? You’re not going to training, Alexia. You’ve got a fever, you need to rest, not push yourself."
She tried again to argue, but you weren’t backing down. “The matches are coming up. I’m one of the captains, I can’t just skip out because of a cold. It’s nothing.”
You shook your head firmly, your voice growing more serious. “No, Alexia. You’re not going to training for the next few days. You’re staying home, and you’re going to get better.”
She opened her mouth to argue, but the look on your face was enough to make her pause. There was no room for discussion. You had made up your mind, and she wasn’t going to win this one.
With a long sigh, she nodded, clearly too tired to argue further.
You stood up, a sense of quiet satisfaction settling over you. “Good. Stay here. I’ll be back in a minute.”
You left her on the couch and went to the bathroom. You quickly started filling the bathtub with warm water, adding a few drops of lavender oil for some relaxation. While the water ran, you returned to Alexia, helped her carefully to her feet, and supported her as she made her way to the bathroom.
She was weak—no surprise, given the fever—but she didn’t protest. You helped her undress and carefully guided her into the warm bath, the water soothing her feverish skin.
As she sank into the warmth, you left to prepare the bedroom, laying out fresh sheets and blankets. You set up a comfortable spot for her to rest, ensuring she would have everything she needed.
When she was done with her bath, you helped her out of the tub, drying her off gently before dressing her in soft, comfortable shorts and a hoodie. She looked exhausted, her movements slow, but you could see the slight relief in her face as the fever seemed to subside a little.
You helped her into the bed, making sure she was tucked in with plenty of blankets. You gave her some medicine to bring the fever down and checked her temperature. It was 39.3°C, still high, but a little lower than when you had first found her. You kissed her forehead, a soft and gentle touch.
“Get some sleep, Lex. You need it.”
She gave you a weak smile and nodded, immediately sinking into a deep slumber.
While she rested, you quietly texted the Barcelona staff, explaining that Alexia was sick and would be staying home for the next few days.
---
The next time she woke up, it was around noon. You were sitting next to her in the bed, reading a book, your hand gently resting on hers. She blinked slowly, rubbing her eyes.
“How are you feeling?” you asked, your voice soft and caring.
“Better,” she murmured. “But... I still have a headache.”
You smiled at her, standing up to get the soup you had prepared earlier. You helped her sit up slightly as you spooned the warm, homemade soup into her hands. After she ate, you checked her temperature again—it hadn’t changed much. You could tell she was still weak, but there was something comforting in the way she trusted you to take care of her.
“More medicine?” you asked, already knowing the answer.
“Please,” she whispered.
You administered the medication, and she soon fell back into a restless sleep. The next few days passed in a blur of caring for her—checking her temperature, bringing her fluids, and making sure she was comfortable. You hardly left her side, even as the days grew longer and the fever began to break.
---
By the fourth day, Alexia was finally starting to feel better. She was sitting on the couch, a playful smirk on her lips.
"You know, you make a pretty perfect nurse,” she said, her voice still a bit hoarse but teasing. “Maybe you should get a costume to complete the role.”
You laughed, giving her a soft swat on the back of the head. “I’m just glad you’re feeling better.”
Before you could say anything else, there was a knock at the door. You opened it to find Mapi and Ingrid standing on the threshold, holding containers of food. Mapi barely spared you a glance, only saying a quick "Hola" before breezing past you to join Alexia on the couch.
Ingrid chuckled softly, shaking her head at Mapi’s antics. “She couldn’t stay away,” Ingrid said, stepping into the apartment. “She’s been worried about her.”
You nodded, letting them in. Ingrid had brought some cooked meals and snacks, clearly aware that you probably hadn’t had much time to go shopping during the past few days. You thanked her for her thoughtfulness, feeling a little overwhelmed by the care everyone showed.
As Mapi sat next to Alexia on the couch, chatting animatedly about what happened the last days at training, Ingrid stayed in the kitchen with you, the two of you talking about how Alexia was doing. Mapi, true to her nature, had made everything sound like it was a grand tale, even though most of it was just mundane updates. But Alexia was smiling, genuinely enjoying her best friend's presence. You could see the relief in her face as she laughed along with Mapi’s endless stories.
The rest of the afternoon passed with laughter and lightheartedness. When Mapi and Ingrid finally left in the evening, Alexia was back to her usual self—feeling much better and joking about how she had missed Mapi’s incessant chatter.
The next day, Alexia returned to training, but when she came home, she had a bouquet of flowers in her hand. She handed them to you with a soft smile.
“Thank you,” she said quietly, her voice still tender. “For everything these past few days.”
You took the flowers, leaning in to kiss her softly. “You don’t need to thank me. I’ll always be here for you—especially when you’re sick.”
She smiled and kissed you back, pulling you into her arms as you both settled on the couch, a movie playing in the background. The world outside faded away as you simply enjoyed being in each other’s company again, both of you feeling content and at peace.
And for the first time in a while, everything felt just right.

➤ Today was the day! You planned every single detail meticulously for a month. Nothing could go wrong!
Your day started nicely. Your girlfriend, even if she was not a sergeant anymore, still naturally followed a very strict routine. Meaning that she willingly woke up every single day at the crack of dawn.
You always complained that you lost her body warmth way too soon in the morning, but you couldn't complain waking up to a delicious breakfast everytime.
-
"Goodmorning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?" her sweet voice filled your ears as soon as she saw you sit down groggily on the table.
"Morning... I did." you responded sleeply, not daring to give her a 'goodmorning kiss' until you ate something and brushed your teeth.
"You need to wake up and get ready for our date, my love." She responded while putting a plate of toast and eggs in front of you.
"And do it quickly, you shouldn't leave a lady waiting, you know?" she gave you a playful wink and resumed her work in the kitchen, currently washing the dishes she used to make breakfast.
"i won't, i promise." you say, quickly digging down your breakfast.
-
"Hyun-ju Cho, if you let go of me, i swear i-" your empty threats were quickly shut down as you stumbled again, holding for dear life on your girlfriend.
You could say ice skating was not one of your natural talents, but it seemed that wasn't the case for your partner, who managed to get it right on the first few tries.
"Don't worry, my love. I am not going anywhere." she held on to your waist gently as you hugged her entire body while moving slowly.
"You better, cause i-" Again, your silly declarations were interrupted. But this time, it was by you faceplanting onto the hard, cold floor. It seemed that holding her in a bear-like grip didn't really work.
"Love! are you- are you alright?" she said a bit worriedly, but you could still notice a faint smile threatening to appear while she clearly held her laughter. She could tell you didn't hurt yourself too hard, so she didn't bother to try and pretend to be an 'over-the-top' type of worried.
"You're laughing!"
"Sorry, my darling." although her words were sincere, the ear-to-ear smile she wore on her face spoke more than a few words.
Noticing your visible pout, she helped you get up, snuggling you close to her covered chest as a way for you to balance yourself. "Here. How about we give it a break and have something to eat? How does that sound, hm?"
She spoke as if comforting a small child who just threw a temper tantrum, but you couldn't bring yourself to deny her words.
With a sigh, you responded. "Alright... Let's go."

hi, i do! i’ve just yet to receive any requests for vi by herself, but i’d be happy to write this :) thank you for the request!
summary; quiet mornings with vi and her girlfriend.
characters included; vi
tags/warnings; fluff, casual dom vi, butch wife material or whatever they say, domesticity, maaaaybe a bit suggestive?
men and minors dni.
you’re awoken to the smell of breakfast cooking.
the spot next to you is empty, an indent on the mattress from where vi once laid. the light shines through open blinds and you reflexively bring an arm up to cover your eyes. groaning, you turn away from the window to look at the bedside clock: 8:41 am.
you wished vi was still with you, it would’ve been nice to wake up in her arms like usual… oh, well. breakfast is nice too.
you swing your legs over the side of the bed and try to rub the sleep from your eyes, slowly making your way to the kitchen. you’re greeted by the sight of vi’s back turned to you, white sports bra and black sweats. she’s clearly too absorbed to have noticed you, intently working on whatever she’s making.
you approach her slowly, a bit cautiously as to not startle her while she’s over a hot stove, but slowly snake your arms around her waist, pressing your cheek into her shoulder. vi lets out a little ‘hmm’ in acknowledgment, but doesn’t turn around.
“up already, babe?”
she remarks, right hand busy with a frying pan.
“yeah. couldn’t sleep without you there.”
“sorry, sorry. wanted to do something nice for you.”
you hum in acknowledgment, pressing further into vi’s back and grazing one hand over toned abs.
“what are you making?”
“surprise.”
she remarks. vi knows just how much you hate surprises, not knowing things. although you know you could very easily look over vi’s shoulder and see for yourself, that could ruin half of the fun. you simply hold vi from behind her, relishing in the warmth that her body offered you. it was always so peaceful, getting to hold her, to be close to her like this. this morning, it seemed as if time stood still.
vi could be moving throughout the kitchen, you’d seen her do it several times while cooking, but she was also considerate. you knew that she’d never want to ruin your fun. dating vi meant that if she had to give little things up, she would. wether that meant her not moving an inch when you slept for hours on her lap, or staying still while cooking because your arms were around her, vi was sweet.
sweet in a way that not many people got to see.
and yet, you found yourself excited at the prospect of eating breakfast she had prepared because her cooking was always so damn good. not many people would think it, but with vi leading a group of ragtag teens and tweens- as well as being an older sister, she’d learned to cook quite young. she frequently cooked for herself, used whatever scraping the kitchen to throw together something edible.
she hadn’t put too much effort into making her meals nice since the incident on the bridge, until she met you. now she feels as if she has a point to prove. or maybe it’s just that she loves you.
“almost done, cupcake. you just sit down and be patient, okay?”
she says, voice laced with affection. you nod slowly, pouting the slightest bit behind her as you let go of her. but you sit down at her dining table, elbows propped as you observe her. it’s almost effortless the way that she moves. it’s admirable.
vi walks over to you, holding out a plate of simple blueberry pancakes. she knew you had a taste for sweet things. she sits down opposite you after you take the plate, a soft smile playing at her lips.
“are you gonna eat anything?”
you ask before you even pick up your fork. you don’t want to be selfish, not with vi especially.
“i already ate. woke up early today, fixed myself something, and figured you’d be up later.”
she says, pointing to your fork. cueing you to start eating. you do, picking up a knife as well to cut the stack into slices. after covering it in sweet syrup, you take a bite and immediately close your eyes in contentment. this is good.
“you didn’t have to do this, you know…”
“of course i did. i’m your girlfriend, remember?”
you sigh, continuing to eat. swallowing the last of what’s in your mouth before you speak to her again.
“but i’ve never done something like this before.”
you sigh, looking off to the side. you hear a low chuckle from your girlfriend.
“trust me, hun, you do plenty for me in other departments.”
this elicits a slight flush rising to your face, deciding to just focus on eating the rest of your pancakes. as you finish the last of the sliced bits, you look up to see vi wearing that same soft smile she wears whenever she’s genuinely admiring you. it’s adorable, one of your favorite looks your girlfriend gives you. one you’ve become accustomed to.
vi stands up to take your plate from you, but not before you tug on one of the straps of her sports bra to bring you to her level. moving your lips slowly against her own, free hand resting on the small of your back. she gives a light giggle as she presses back into you, toned arms slowly wrapping around your neck.
“i’ll do the laundry today, since you cooked.”
you say, face still mere millimeters from vi’s. she smiles softly before shaking her head.
“nope. you’re relaxing today.”
“but-”
“no.”
“you cooked for-”
vi shakes her head again, brushing your jawline with her lips.
“i cooked because i want you to take it easy, and i like doing things for you. now, you’re gonna take your pretty self to the couch, or bed, and relax. and i’ll do the work today. alright?”
you groan in slight annoyance, but sigh. you know there’s no winning when vi gets in these moods. she only wants to see you taken care of, and she’ll be damned if that isn’t what happens.
count on vi to always put the needs of others before her own. she’d gotten better at taking care of herself during your relationship, but the way she put your wants and needs before her own never wavered. if anything, it got stronger with time.
“alright. but i’ll still do things tomorrow.”
“you can do whatever you want tomorrow.”
she hums, sitting down on the chair you were previously using. her arms are still draped around your neck, pulling you to sit on her lap. the second you make contact with her thighs, her lips are on yours again.
it’s breathless, a bit more rushed than the delicate kiss you had shared a few moments prior. but it’s perfect, it’s vi. the way her scarred lips move against yours is always so skillful yet so sweet.
“i love you, okay? i just want you to unwind sometimes.”
you nod slowly, pressing your forehead to your girlfriend’s and closing your eyes.
“i love you too, babe. just feel a bit… bad, not doing anything in return.”
“i don’t want anything in return,” she whispers. “this-” she points between the two of you, “is more than enough.”

Basically everyone at work has the flu and I’m starting to feel like death has finally sunken its talons into me so enjoy my illness induced headcanons for datv. I’ve also only played 30 hrs so these could and will be wildly inaccurate but I simply don’t care 😙💕
How datv companions would react to you being sick
Lucanis is sitting by your bedside at all times. We all know he refuses to sleep and you being sick is the perfect reason to stay up! He needs to make sure your fever is breaking or can get you anything should you wake up in the middle of the night. He’s making you immune boosting soups and there’s always a cup of hot tea waiting for you when you awake.
Darvin has figured out how to train Assan to find you whatever herbs you need. You need a special mushroom only grown in the depths of the forest where there’s been a recent fire? Darvin and Assan are on it. He’s also going to be the one to who says they’re going to sit with you at night but fall asleep in their chair while Assan is curled up beside you in bed.
Harding is using all of her outdoorsy knowledge to figure out what is going to help you the most. My money is on her being the one who knows exactly what herbs you need and sending Darvin out.
Taash. Sweet baby Taash is refusing to let you move a muscle. They’re carrying you to and from the bath, from your room to the kitchen; anywhere you go, you’re in their arms. They will also act annoyed if you give them puppy dog eyes and ask them to cuddle you because they’re warm. They’ll huff and roll their eyes as they gently push you over and plop down beside you.
Neve is the best detective there is which means she knows exactly what you’re sick with and how to treat it. She probably even knew before you did and was slipping you immune boosting teas or some shit. You’re the light of her life and she will not have you taken out by the damn flu.
Bellara is frantic. She’s the one who needs to sit down and talk to you because she’s worked herself into a frenzy. She’s partially convinced you’re dying while also believing that there’s no way because you’re you and you’re so strong and… you get the picture. She’s going to be one who breaks into tears when you start coughing really hard or when you grab her hand to get her to just sit down as she paces the room.
Emmrich is admittedly not well versed in the alignments of the living but he has Manfred! His dear undead assistant is at your beck and call all hours of the day while your necromancer is reading to you. He’ll have the others do what they do best while he does what he does best; soothe your soul. He’ll read to you for hours on end and when the books have run out (quite an unimaginable horror I might add), he’ll simply talk to you about whatever you desire.

chris sighed as his four year old rejected his food again. he felt like he had made every possible meal by now. eggs, pancakes, waffles, he even went out of his way to call his mom for a french toast recipe. “owen, buddy. hey i need you to eat.” he frowns, ruffling the kids hair. “i’ve made you everything by now! i can’t make you much more… we don’t have much more. i’m gonna be eatin all this food for multiple meals.” he whispers. he knew that owen didn’t understand much, but he still tried. owen huffed and crossed his arms, shaking his head.
“cocoa puffs!” he whines, pouting his big brown eyes at his father. owen, otherwise a spitting image of chris, had his mothers eyes. it was the only feature he seemed to have of hers. chris sighs again as he nods in defeat, grabbing the cereal box from the top of the fridge. he serves a small portion in an equally small bowl for the boy, but groans when he’s opens the fridge and discovers he’s out of milk. that damn french toast. he glances outside to determine if it was worth going out with a toddler. when he sees the snow falling, he decides against it.
“sorry bud. guess you’ll have to eat it dry.” he mumbles, giving the boy an apologetic kiss on the head. owen frowns at the sight, pushing the cereal away too. chris’ frown grows and if anyone were to see the two boys pouting at that moment they’d know they were related. “owen.” he speaks sternly, his patience suddenly flying out the window into the storm. owen’s little lip trembles at his dad’s tone. chris never yells. he’s never mean. he swore to be everything his dad wasn’t. tears form in the poor boys eyes. he’s about to break down. chris tries his best to prevent the situation by pulling him into his arms, rubbing the back of his head. “hey… it’s okay. we’ll go buy some milk later and you can have that for lunch yeah?” he mumbles, running fingers through the boys hair. when owen begins to reply, he’s cut off by a knock on their door.
owen hops off his chair and begins running towards the door, his little feet going slower than he hopes. “mommy! daddy mommy’s here!” he yells. chris only frowns cause he knows that no, owen’s mom definitely isn’t there. as much as he wishes that she was on the other side, he knew that there was no way. he catches up to the boy and moves him aside gently.
“no bud it’s not mommy. move over so i can open the door yeah?” chris whispers, slowly opening the door. he’s shocked when you’re on the other side, a big tupperwear in your hands. “hey, kid. what are you doin here? it’s storming out there, don’t tell me you came all the way over here to return an old container of mine? unless you’re just using it as an excuse for something else which… just isn’t the best time right now.” he asks, moving aside to let you in. you shake your head as you walk in, pushing your hood off your head.
“no i um… actually made like… way too much chicken noodle soup last night. my dad told me to bring some over.” you smile, placing it on the table. you kneel down to be eye level with owen, noticing his messy hair. “y’just wake up or something? why’s that hair a mess?” you joke, glancing up towards chris. you smile at him, his hair messy just like his toddlers. owen giggles at your words, tumbling towards the container on the counter.
“daddy, soup?” he whispers, batting his eyes at his father. chris chuckles and nods, taking the container to the kitchen and serving the young boy some. a genuine smile runs across chris’ face when owen begins happily eating, enjoying every bite. chris sends you a look. you can’t tell what it’s for at first, but you understand when chris speaks.
“thank you… he hasn’t wanted to eat anything yet.” he whispers, looking over all the other food on his kitchen counter. “you hungry?” his smile grows when you nod and begin to dig into some of the food sitting out.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
futa kang no-eul x fem reader ────୨ৎ──── cw: no-eul has a dick (sorry to all the dick hating lesbians), reader gives no-eul a handjob, reader gets degraded by no-eul, no-eul has a drinking problem, no-eul is a horndog and will possibly fuck you in public if she wanted to, no-eul breeds you, reader has a pregnancy scare
you woke up after pulling an all nighter for no reason. you rolled out of your bed and looked at the clock to see that it was 4 pm and that meant that you basically spent the entire day asleep. you didn’t even know if it would be appropriate to even eat breakfast at this hour so you went to the kitchen and chewed on a breadstick to get rid of your hunger.
you didn’t really have any friends besides this woman who lives in her car. you don’t remember how you met her but all you know is that you occasionally go to her car to get her cigarettes, soju and beer bottles.
that evening, you went to the local convenience store to buy a few beer bottles for her since you haven’t seen her in over a week so she must’ve thought you forgot about her. as you made your way out of the shop, holding a bag full of beer bottles, you went back into the shop to buy a small cake.
it was pretty foggy outside so it made it quite hard for you to find your way through the fog. soon after, you found her car parked in the same lonely parking lot you’ve always found her in. without hesitation you walked up to it and knocked on the window.
no one answered, so you took a closer look into the window to find her sleeping. you found yourself admiring her sleeping soundly like a baby. suddenly, she got up and opened the door for you.
“no-eul, i brought you seven beers and a cake for us to share,” you said with enthusiasm but her face looked sad. her face looked like she has been crying a lot. her eyes looked teary and sad and you felt pity for her so you got closer to her. “what’s wrong?” you ask her as you wiped her tears with your thumbs. she didn’t answer you but instead she pulled out one of the beer cans you bought and she pried up the can’s tab with her index finger and chugged the beer down. your eyes widened with amaze as she squished the can flat with her hands and dropped it aside.
“you can have some, you bought them,” no-eul spoke up but her voice sounded raspy. you got worried that she might’ve catched a cold. you refused her suggestion since you hate the taste of beer or any alcoholic beverage in general.
she chugged down beer after beer after the bag was empty. once she was down to the last one, she looked frustrated to find out that the bag was empty. “i’m sorry i couldn’t get you more! i promise, next time i’ll bring you fifteen cans!” you apologized as you noticed her eyes slowly closing.
“mhm…” no-eul mumbled as she fell asleep on your lap, making it impossible for you to leave.
you noticed a large bump growing in her pants which made you worry a bit but you didn’t want to wake her up for that so you fell asleep as well.
as you were lost in your own sleep, you began to hear wet slapping noises but you were too lost in your sleep to even try to make an effort to wake up. you began hearing whines and moans which really made you want to wake up to see what the fuck was happening.
your eyes flew open and looked around the dark car only to find no-eul zipping up her pants and buckling her belt. “no-eul, were you fingering yourself?” you asked with a shaky voice as she nodded her head. “well not exactly— you see—,” she hesitated. your face looked even more worried wondering what intimate thing she was doing. the worry in your face caused her to start sweating, drops of sweat beading her forehead.
“please don’t tell anyone—i have a special body type..” no-eul said as she gripped onto your wrist, not allowing you to leave the vehicle. “may i see?..” you asked with curiosity. no-eul slowly unbuckled her belt and unzipped her pants, pulling down her boxers and letting out 8 inches of hard dick spring out.
your jaw dropped; you’ve never seen something like this, you felt mesmerized like a child being brought to the amusement park for the first time. “holy fuck. were you born like this?” you leaned in to take a closer look at it as she nodded.
the first thought in your mind was to go ahead and wrap your hand around her cock.
“i’m fucking crazy for even thinking about this,” you thought to yourself.
the silence in that moment was loud, you could even hear your own heart pounding in your chest. you reached your hand over and wrapped your hand around her large shaft causing her to gasp out.
it felt sticky, it felt right. you ran your hand up and down her throbbing dick, precum dripping on her tip. “you weren’t really fingering yourself, were you?” you giggled as you continued giving her a handjob. moans escaped from no-eul’s mouth, her dick growing harder and bigger as you touched the precum to trace it around her tip.
stroke after stroke, her dick ended up being fully covered in precum and her whines and moans made you want to go faster. “i’m gon’ cum, i’m gon’ cum,” no-eul repeated countless of times, giving you the sign that she was about to release.
finally, she let out a long rope of hot sticky seed out of her hardened used up cock. “you fucking slut..” she murmured as her eyes rolled up, shooting out her last cum shot.
“wish i could shoot that load inside you, baby,” no-eul murmured before falling asleep again with her cock still out.
you leaned into her ear and whispered, “let’s take this to my home,” you gave her dick a stroke “it looks like it still wants to release another load,” you said while giving her a wink.
she smiled at your suggestion. she buckled her belt and zipped up her pants, already looking forward to give you her best in your home.
Tumblr media
you were stripped naked, her hands on your tits, roaming her hands around them, teasing your nipples. your body laying on your bed, your legs lifted with your knees against your chest, making you ready for her cock to enter you.
“oh fuck, i can’t resist you, oh fuck,” no-eul said while impatiently undressing herself, throwing her shirt over her head (she doesn’t wear a bra by the way so you got to see her tits), unbuckling her belt, unzipping her pants and pulling them down along with her boxers.
she spread open your thighs forcefully, her cock growing hard. “i’ll make it fucking fit,” she said as she aligned the tip of her cock against your pussy, tracing it around, getting your pussy wet and slippery. she finally slipped it right in, making a moan come out of your mouth.
her thrusts started off slow and gentle but she looked like she wanted more. “it’s too tight..” she said, giving your right tit a hard squeeze. her thrusts began accelerating, her dick adjusting to the tightness of your pussy.
you moan and moan, saliva dripping out of your mouth by the feeling of your pussy getting stretched out by her monster cock.
your boobs jiggled as she fucked you harder and faster, making the scene more pornographic. wet slapping sounds with the mix of the moans of both yours and no-eul’s filled the room quick.
her cock slid up to your clit accidentally, making her grunt and she used her right hand to stick it back inside of you. her moves were drastic, aggressive and scary. you could’ve sworn her cock could easily demolish your womb if she wanted it to.
just before you were about to squirt, she released a large amount of hot seed into your womb. she thrusted her dick as deep as she could inside of you to unleash every last drop of cum she had in her.
“i’m not done yet, i’m going to cum inside you till my sack is fucking empty,” no-eul uttered as she pulled out, her cum spilling out of your pussy. you were out of breath, you couldn’t say a word but you felt incredibly horny.
no-eul fucked you in various different positions throughout that night, breeding your pussy over and over again.
Tumblr media
when you finished riding her cock, you leaned in to give her a kiss on her cheek, as a way to show some affection to her. you grew severely attached to her to the point where you refused to use any sort of protection so you’ll end up pregnant with her baby.
“you’ll be a good mommy, i promise,” no-eul remarked as she let out her last load inside of you, making you scream out loud.
you definitely got pregnant after that incident, don’t worry

"Broken", Not Stupid - 16: I Am Broken
Pairing: alpha!Simon "Ghost" Riley x unusual omega!OC (13)
CW: Omegaverse; dehumanization; beginnings of an anxiety attack, though it's not labeled as such; some negative self-talk (13)
Author's Note: Ok... one more then we'll get into 13 starting to spill the beans. She'll be ok - Simon's there now! I think I'm going to pause on 13's story for a bit, though. I've got things brewing about other OCs so I'm gonna get started on their stories uwu <3
Tumblr media
When I open my eyes again... my head is still on Simon's lap. I adjust carefully so I can look up at him. His eyes are closed and his head is resting on the back of the couch.
"Simon," I call to him softly. "Hey," I say a bit louder and poke the center of his chest.
His lashes flutter and he opens his eyes. With a groan, he tilts his head to look down at me.
"What's wrong?" he asks in a voice rough with sleep.
"The way you're sleeping, mostly. C'mon. We should both go to bed."
As I sit up Simon's hand snakes around my waist, but over his blanket.
"No," he mumbles, "stay here."
What the hell is he on about? Damn, he needs more sleep.
"Simon," I call to him louder. "Wake up."
I reach out and gently poke his cheek through his mask. His eyes open wide at the contact and his breathing gets heavier. Slowly, with a shocked expression of my own, I slowly pull my hand away from his face.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to... freak you out. You ok?" I ask with a gentle voice.
"Fine," he says, shaking his head then letting out a heavy sigh. "Just not used to people touching my face."
"Right. Fair enough," I agree then get up from the couch to make my way to my room.
Tumblr media
The smell of pancakes cooking wakes me in the morning. As I roll to get out of bed, though, I nearly roll on to Selene. She yawns at my sudden intrusion then gets up to stretch.
"Good morning to you too." I smile at her then run my hand over her back and up her tail, causing a small chirp to leave her. "I smell pancakes... but do you think your dad is making more bacon too?"
She blinks slowly at me in response and I give her a quiet laugh then truly make my way out of bed. When I reach the kitchen I pause in the archway for a moment.
Johnny's here. Making breakfast. And Simon's nowhere to be seen.
"Lass! Good morning! Simon had to run to grab a few things to make sure all five of us would be fed properly today," he chuckles then yawns. "I knew he'd call me over early so I showed up a few hours early. Hope you don't mind?"
"Not my house," I shrug and step up to the counter I continue to sit on while Simon cooks.
"Isn't it?" Johnny asks with a smile as his focus returns to the pancakes.
Unsure what he means by that, I hop on the counter and change the subject.
"So... what are the other two like?"
"Other two? Oh, you mean Cap and Kyle? Cap's a bit of a, uh," he leans towards me, like he's sharing a secret, "workaholic. I'll have to make some strong coffee all day to make sure he stays awake," he chuckles then straightens. "Kyle is a secret trouble maker, but he's a sweet heart. Would adopt and love all the kittens in the world, if given the chance, I think."
"What do you mean 'secret trouble maker'?" I push with an eyebrow raised.
"He's not as open about his chaotic nature as I am," Johnny says with a wink.
I nod, accepting his answer and glance around the kitchen. The kitchen feels... weird... without Simon here.
"Missing him?" Johnny asks suddenly with his eyes on the pancakes but a knowing smile on his face.
"Who?"
"Your alpha. Who else?" he asks with a laugh.
"My... hm. Well, is he, though? We haven't really... discussed any of that," I admit with a slight frown.
"You knew who I meant, though." He's got this smug look on his face, like he's just outwitted someone.
"Johnny, besides you, Simon's the only person I've actually met in the area," I remind him flatly.
Johnny's smug looks falters.
"True. Didn't think about that. I wanna go back to what you said, though. Haven't discussed what?"
"Him officially being my alpha and all that. I tried to initiate the conversation last night but I mentioned-"
My mouth snaps shut, remembering Simon's reaction to how Salvation handled the heats of the omegas they care for.
"I mentioned some things about Salvation and heats, but he... didn't take it well. Sliced his finger and just seemed so angry," I explain with a frown. "After we cleaned up the cut and I banaged it, he told me that all three of you would be here today. That all of you would listen to my story."
He stays silent for a while, removing pancakes from the pan and adding new batter.
"I won't ask for specifics. I'm sure I'll hear about it at some point, but, lass." He turns to me fully. The expression on his face reminds me of a puppy. "We're here for you. All of us - me, Cap, Kyle, and epsecially Simon. And there will be more on that list when you're ready."
Part of me wants to argue, but the rest of me just can't deny the adorable face he's making. So I sigh and nod my head.
"I appreciate it. I don't understand why that needs to be said, but I do appreciate it," I tell him softly and pick at the hem of the shirt of Simon's that I wore to bed last night.
"What's wrong, 13?" Simon says from the front door.
I can't see him and I can't smell him, but that was definitely his voice. Johnny smiles at me and nods in that direction so I slide off the counter and make my way to the front door.
There's multiple grocery bags hanging off of both of Simon's arms and I have to supress a laugh at the sight of him.
"What's wrong?" he asks again, voice serious.
"Nothing. Was just talking to Johnny. Let me take a few bags," I insist as I reach for his left arm.
"It'll put me off balance. I've got it," he says as he pulls his arm away. "Thank you, though," he adds like it's an after thought.
Then he shoos me to the living room as he makes his way to the kitchen. When he's done putting away the groceries, he joins me.
"Why did you think something was wrong?" I ask immediately from underneath the blanket he let me use last night.
"I could smell your distress," he says simply as he motions for me to come closer.
Confused, I slide closer and lay on my back with my head on his lap.
"You could... smell- I wasn't distressed, though." I frown up at him as his hand begins smoothing my hair back.
"You can't smell anything. Can you?" he asks softly.
"I can smell the pancakes just fine."
"I mean others' scents. You can't smell others. At least not well."
I consider what he's asking. It took being right up to him or wearing his clothes for me to know what he smelled like. Cinnamon and cedar, I can smell it now. But I don't know what Johnny smells like. And I couldn't tell him what anyone else smells like either.
"13," he calls to me and gently turns my head so I look directly at him. "What's going through your head?"
"I'm broken," I say softly. "I always knew I was, but... you're right. I can't smell anyone. I can only smell you if I'm close, like right now, or wearing something that you give me. I don't know what Johnny smells like-"
"Take a deep breath. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Do it with me," he instructs and begins doing so.
My eyes prick with tears but I follow his lead. When my eyes no longer hurt and my chest doesn't feel like there's cement in it, he speaks again.
"You're not broken, sweetheart. You've just been through things; a lot of things, I'm sure. Those things have not been kind to you. But I'm here to help you now. I'm here," he assures me, his hand still gently gliding over my hair. "Why you don't take a nap while we wait for the others? I'll stay right here with you, if you want."
His offer is tempting, but doesn't he have things he needs to do before Kyle and 'Cap' arrive?
"I think I'd rather shower then just... exist on the couch for a while. Until they get here. Selene can keep me company when I come back out."
Simon studies me for a moment and lets out a heavy breath.
"Alright, but if I detect even a hint of your distress, I'm either kicking down whichever door or coming back out here and-"
"Are you about to threaten me, the distressed omega?" I ask with a small smile.
"Yes," he nods. "I'm threatening you with being held and comforted."
Oh. That's... a different feeling. Set that aside for later, though...
For now I just get up, leaving the balnket on the couch, and make my way back to my room to gather clothes. I catch a glimpse of Johnny in the kitchen on my way through the house. He looks... so sad, but his focus is on the pancakes.
What I went through when I was with Salvation... was it really that bad?

Bluebird Lane - Chapter Three
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jake Kiszka x Female Reader
Word Count: 6.8k
Warnings: Cursing, Alcohol Consumption, Angst, Pining, Sexual Themes, Kissing, Touching.
A/N: Six months later... I am so sorry this took so long, and I promise the next chapter will be coming a lot sooner than this one did. Thanks for sticking it out with me! Also, a gigantic, massive thank you to @gretavanmoon and @builtbybrokenbells for endlessly encouraging me with this one and daydreaming with me. Thanks for reading!
JAKE POV
The sound of the neighbor's lawn mower wakes you from your sleep far earlier than you planned. You roll to your side, pushing your hair out of your face as you tap your sound machine to shut off the white noise. The clock reads 7:51AM and the sun is shining through the slats of your blinds, warming the room despite the best efforts of your ceiling fan. You grab your phone from your nightstand, trying to open your eyes wide enough that face ID will work, blinking away the sleep and stretching out your stiff legs. You scroll through your notifications, looking for anything pressing but feel a wave of relief wash over you when you see that there is nothing on the calendar for you today.
You roll out of your bed, tossing the sheets and duvet over the spot you were laying in before, grabbing your sweats and sliding them over your legs. You drag yourself to the bathroom, seeing that her bedroom door is still closed and no sound is coming from behind it. She’s still asleep. Your mind flashes back to last night and the way she tasted on your lips, the softness of her skin, and the sound of her laugh.
After brushing your teeth you make your way to the kitchen, digging around in the pantry for the coffee beans and filters so that you can start your day. You dump in the pre-grinded beans and press brew, knowing that in a few minutes the house will fill with the aroma of coffee. You settle on the couch with your phone in hand, scrolling through your socials and replying to a few texts as the coffee pot starts to brew. A few minutes later it beeps, pulling your attention away from your phone as it drags you into the kitchen. You pull a mug from the cabinet and pour in the steaming hot coffee, breathing in deeply the rich smell. This mug is from Arizona, clay colored with a turquoise Kokopelli on the front. You remember the struggle of hauling it around with you on that tour so many years ago, but somehow it made the trip and now several moves.
You hear the soft padding of feet in the hallway and a flutter rises in your chest. You turn to look at her, simultaneously pulling a mug down from the cabinet for her. As she rounds the corner you see her, still in her tiny pajamas and with sleepy eyes. She crosses her arms across her chest as she speaks.
“Do I smell coffee?” she squeaks, her voice still waking up for the day.
“You do,” you answer, nodding her over. You pour the mug full of coffee and extend it to her, instantly wondering if she likes anything in it. “How do you like your coffee?”
She accepts the mug from your hand, grabbing it with both of hers. “Just creamer. I will pick some up at the store later today,” she pauses, “Thank you for this.”
“Of course,” you urge, “Can’t start my day without it.”
She leans her hip into the edge of the counter, sipping from the edge of the mug as silence falls over the two of you. You know it's now or never, so you take a deep breath and clear your throat.
“Listen,” you start, leaning on the counter to mimic her position. “I’m– Sorry about last night, I shouldn’t have done that. I don’t know what came over me and I feel as though I overstepped a boundary.”
Her face flushes pink as she listens, biting her lips together as her eyes search yours.  “Oh, it’s…It’s no big deal Jake. It’s fine, you don’t need to apologize. It was a tiny kiss, barely anything.”
You swallow harshly as you remember it differently. “It was just the heat of the moment I suppose. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable. Just wanted to make sure we are okay, I guess,” you continue.
“Yeah, absolutely,” she says, “No big deal.” You can see her holding back on what she really wants to say, but you don’t want to push.
“Yeah, okay, yeah. No big deal.” you confirm. You both stand awkwardly looking at each other, the tension in the room growing larger and larger by the second. Her eyes flick over to the clock hanging on the wall, a wave of panic washing over her.
“I have to go get ready for work…” she pauses, “Thank you for the coffee.”
You suddenly feel guilty about your late night. “I didn’t know you worked today. I shouldn’t have kept you up so late last night.”
She smiles, a small giggle leaving her lips. “You didn’t keep me up, I chose to stay up. And I only have two clients today. Should be a short day.”
You find yourself wishing you were one of them. To lay on her table and feel her hands on you, working away at the tense muscles in your body. Fuck, it sounds good. You shake your head of the thoughts, refocusing on her as she walks down the hallway, shutting her bedroom door behind her.
Your mind swirls back to last night as you look out the kitchen window. The sun is shining brightly into the backyard, a few birds chirping in the Oak tree as your neighbor finishes up their lawn. Then, part of the conversation settles within you. Her garden. She wants to plant a garden here. And as you watch the bugs fly around outside the window an idea strikes you. Suddenly your free day is now filled with a plan.
HER POV
The drive to work is short, but that doesnt keep your mind from racing with the memories of last night. Every moment, big and small, replaying on the ten minute drive. His lips, his eyes, his touch, his laugh. Everything all at once right in the middle of Saturday morning farmers market traffic. Your heart rate picks up as you let the feeling of his lips on yours take center stage, though, the horn honking from the car behind you pulls you from the daydream.
You make the turn into the parking lot, having your choice of parking space today. After a few minutes you’re unlocking the front door and turning on the lights, bathing the small reception area in warm light. As you wait for the computer to power on, you check your phone, seeing a few missed texts that you take mental note of to respond to later. Quiet music begins to play through the speakers of the building as the booking software opens on the computer screen. You confirm your two appointments for the day, seeing that one is a new customer, and one is a return customer. Though, it's the last name of the return customer that has your heart beating out of your chest.
It couldn’t be. Right?
Before you can confirm, the front door opens and a woman walks in. Older and gray, she hobbles through the small lobby and up to the reception desk.
“Mrs. Sandborn?” you ask, confirming it’s your first client and not a walk in.
“Yes, dear,” she smiles kindly. You can tell she is a sweet woman and that this appointment is going to be a breeze. The session is only thirty minutes long and you find she wants special attention paid to her lumbar area.
Just as you thought the appointment slipped by in the blink of an eye as you got to know the woman and heard a bit of her life story as you worked on her aching back. She thanks you profusely as she leaves, making a return appointment for a few weeks from now.
You see it’s not long before your second session with your returning client, and once again your pulse starts to race as you realize this client is likely very related to your new roommate. The thought has your palms sweating as you work to sanitize your work room, laying out new linens and checking the clients preferred diffuser scent for his session.
The bell on the front door alerts you of his presence, and with a deep breath you shake away your nerves, walking into the lobby to meet him. His long dark hair is tied up at his neck as a beaming smile crosses his face. There is no doubt he is related to Jake, you can see it now clear as day and you know this hour long session will be the longest of your life.
“Hi Mr. Kiszka, great to see you again.”
A smirk pulls his smile to the side as he gives you a subtle nod, “You can call me Sam.”
Your mind is still racing as you weave through the midday traffic on your way home. You learned quite a few new things about your new roommate, whether you wanted to or not. You didn’t dare tell him that Jake is your roommate, not wanting to cross the line of professionalism, and honestly because you kind of wanted to hear what he had to say while still under the veil of anonymity. The hour seemed to move at a glacial pace as he told you of life on the road, new projects, and upcoming adventures he had planned with his brothers. But now, finally as you drive home you are able to put it past you, ready to spend the rest of the day at home decompressing, alone.
As you pull up to your house though, you notice Jake is actually still around, and working on something on the side of the house. You feel your pulse quicken as you catch a glimpse of him shoveling dirt, his t-shirt soaked through with sweat as the Tennessee sun beats down on him in the heat of the day. His black sunglasses sit low on his nose as he works, shoveling dirt into a wheelbarrow. His hair is twisted into a knot at the back of his head, a few sweaty strands escaping from his exertion.
Curious as to what exactly he is doing, you find yourself stepping out of your car and walking across the grassy lawn. You’re hesitant at first, still feeling a bit unsure about everything after last night, but you swallow down your anxiety as you step up to the side of the wheelbarrow.
With your bag slung over your shoulder, you jut your hip out to the side as you finally speak, “What–What exactly are you doing?”
His head snaps up from his shovel, and he flicks his sunglasses up on his head, surprised to see you.
“Shit, you’re home earlier than I expected.”
“Huh?” you question.
“Well, I wanted to get it done before you got home, but, I guess…” he pauses, running his glove covered hand over his dirty face. “Surprise, here’s your garden,” he smirks, “Or what will be your garden.”
“Mine?” you ask, genuinely taken aback.
“Figured it’s the least I could do for you before I leave,” he answers, resting his arm on top of the shovel.
Shock makes its way through your body, and you’re positive that no one has ever done anything this kind, let alone thoughtful, for you.
A huge grin spreads across his face as he takes in your look of surprise. “So, you know what you want to plant here?”
You swallow quickly, shaking your head to clear your thoughts, “Yeah, I mean– yeah it’s summer, there’s a lot I can plant right now.” you stammer. “But– I don't have any seeds or–”
“I know,” he interrupts, “I thought…I know of this local plant nursery nearby. I could…take you?” He seems nervous to ask, and continues. “It’s kinda over near my office and I'm sure they have seeds and stuff. I pass it every day.”
“Sure,” you answer all too quickly. “It would need to be soon though, so that they have time to root and everything.”
He looks down to the perfect rectangle of tilled dirt as he smiles to himself, “Yeah. Yeah let me get cleaned up a little bit and we can… go now? If you want?”
“Oh, um, s-sure.” you answer, the initial shock now being replaced by the surprise of his forwardness.
“Cool, give me a minute. I’ll drive.” he smiles, leaning his shovel against the side of the house before sauntering across the yard and through the front door.
You stand there staring at this patch of dirt, in the perfect spot for a garden. You didn’t know he knew much about gardening, his brother failing to mention that detail during today's session. You mentally go over your list of summer vegetables, trying to decide what would be best for the space.
Seconds later you hear the front door closing, and see Jake locking the door behind himself.
“You ready?” he asks, the past ten minutes a whirlwind of events.
“Yeah,” you answer with a smile as you head towards his Jeep. He opens the door for you, helping you inside, his hands still a bit dirty from his work. He joins you seconds later, starting the car and pulling away from the curb.
“How was work?” he asks, so casual for someone you only just met.
“It was good actually, just a short day, but um, your brother Sam was my last client.” you say nervously.
“What?” he asks, his head snapping over to the side.
“Yeah, I’ve seen him once before but I didn’t know you then. I saw his name on my schedule today and figured it had to be your brother, but when I saw him I knew for sure.” you admit.
“Wha–what did he say?” he asks, seemingly nervous. “Did he say anything about me, or?”
“Oh uh, nothing really,” I lie, not ready to disclose some of the things I learned in the hour-long session. “There isn’t a whole lot of talking during the appointments.”
He seems satisfied with that answer, dropping it with the shake of his head and a huff of annoyance.
It’s quiet between the two of you for a few minutes, just the sound of the engine and the faint sound of the radio playing. You decide to break the silence, a question eating you alive.
“How did you know where to dig? That is the best spot in the whole yard.” you ask. “I had no idea you were into gardening.”
“I mean, I’m not. I did a little bit of research after you told me you wanted a garden here.” he answers, peering over at you beneath his dark lenses.
“That was just last night…How did you–”
“Just wanted to do something nice for you. Only took a little bit of reading.” he grins, turning his attention back to the road. “Was worth it.”
“Well, thank you. Truly.” you breathe, letting a kind smile turn your lips.
“Of course,” he answers, his tone the same as yours. Soft.
“How about zucchini?” you ask, “Do you like zucchini?”
“Love it, one of my favorites,” Jake replies, plucking the seed packet from the wooden stand. He has an entire handful of different seeds, insisting you plant them all.
“We can’t do too many! It will be too crowded!” you laugh, scanning the rack of packets.
He shrugs his shoulders and smiles, as he grabs a few more packets of common herbs. Your eyes wander around the quaint nursery spotting a wire rack of plants on their last legs, brown and withering away for a severely reduced price. When you spot the sad looking tomato plant you tilt your head to the side and wander towards it.
Your fingers graze its sad, wilted leaves, only one lone and tiny tomato bud on its puny stem. The soil is dry, and you can tell it has been neglected in its short life. You feel Jake walk up behind you, taking in the sight just the same as you.
“I think I’m gonna save it,” you say, turning to meet his eyes. He looks at you like you’re crazy turning to look back at the entire row of strong and healthy tomato plants just behind the two of you.
“Why that one? There are about a hundred great ones we could get.” he says, gesturing with his head.
“No, this one is so sad. It needs its underdog story,” you pause, grabbing the frail plant. “I’m saving him.”
A grin pulls across his lips as he gently shakes his head, “Okay. Whatever you want, as long as I get to eat the tomatoes.”
You smile and nod, “So you think I can do it…” you say cheekily.
“What?” he questions, walking the two of you towards the hose attachments.
“Save him.” you answer.
“Oh, well, yeah. I guess so.” he grins shyly, plucking a new sprayer nozzle from the shelf. “I think I’m going to enjoy watching you try.”
“Oh, well, I thought you knew…” you continue, watching as he shoots you a confused look. “This is a big commitment, you know, becoming tomato parents. It will take the both of us. Are you sure you’re up for that kind of commitment?” you say playfully.
He pretends to be unsure as he taps his fingers against his lips, “Well, I guess I’m gonna have to be, aren’t I? I can’t let you raise him alone.”
“I think so.” you giggle.
He smiles at you with a brief pause as he looks at the pitiful plant, and then to you, “Then let's pay for him and get him home.”
JAKE POV
“Was that the last of the pack?” you ask, watching as Y/N places the last of the cucumber seeds into the ground. The sun is starting to dip below the trees, your daylight nearly gone. You worked all afternoon planting the seeds in the fresh soil, a smile plastered to your face as you talked and laughed at each other's handiwork throughout the process. Her tomato plant, which you named Heinz, was placed in its new home on the front porch, pruned and watered and ready to begin its journey back to full health.
“Yep, that’s all of ‘em,” she grins, dusting off her dirty hands on her denim shorts.
You take that as your cue to try out the new spray nozzle you bought for the hose, wanting it to be as easy as possible to water the garden bed. She starts to gently tap her shoe on the dirt, making sure it's packed down as you turn on the spigot and hear the water start to flow.
You pull the trigger on the nozzle and a few drizzles of water start to flow through the head. You begin to spray the patch of dirt, watering your newly planted herbs and vegetables for the first time. Y/N steps back, crossing her arms across her chest as she watches you. Just as she looks away you aim the spray at her, hitting her arms with the cold faucet water.
“Jake!” she squeals, your playful action taking her by surprise. She pushes her sunglasses up onto her head and shakes off her wet arms.
“What?” you ask, a cheeky grin on your face as you spray her again in a different place.
This time her jaw drops as she starts to walk over to you, ready to turn the tables. You back away, holding the water house out of her reach as she tries to wrestle it away from you. She puts up a valiant fight, but it’s just not enough.
“Okay, okay, you’re right. I’m sorry. That was my bad.” you lie, waiting for her to retreat just enough, and she does, stepping back and turning her attention back to the water that is now flowing onto the ground.
But you don’t concede that easily. As soon as she feels safe, you spray her again, knocking her sunglasses off of her head.
“Jacob!” she shouts, this time running at you full force and ripping the nozzle from your hands before you can stop her. Instantly you are soaked with water from the hose, the two of you fighting each other for the upper hand between sprays of cold water.
You finally regain control of the water hose as the two of you laugh, now completely soaking wet. You let the spray hit her face, and that is her final straw as she tackles you to the ground in order to end this water war.
“You are terrible!” she laughs, still doing her best to grab the hose from you. But sadly for her, you are stronger and find yourself rolling her to her back on the muddy grass as you hold the hose out of her reach.
You are both dripping wet and mud covered as you hover over her, your smiles a mirror image of each other as you both breathe heavily trying to catch your breath. It’s then that you take her in, in her most raw, vulnerable state as she lays beneath you. You stare at her for a moment, everything silent between the two of you as the hose continues to run.
Without warning, your hand moves up to swipe away a muddy drip of water from her cheek, softly and probably far too tenderly for a pair of roommates. Before you can pull your hand from her warm, wet skin, you feel her fingers move to grip at the back of your neck, pulling you down to her as she presses her lips to yours.
You’re instantly transported back to last night. Back to that first sweet kiss shared between the two of you. Her lips ignite the same feeling as they did then, soft and electric, but this time wet.
It’s her that initiated this kiss. It’s her that wants this, and so you take that as your green flag to descend deeper into it, kissing her back the way you’ve thought about every second since last night. You let your muddy, wet hand cradle her cheek, your thumb balancing on the curve of her chin.
You feel yourself relax a bit, really feeling the moment of this kiss. You feel a vibration against your lips as she lets the smallest whine leave her mouth and flow into yours, her tongue beginning to part your lips. Her free hand finds its way to your back, her fist gripping your soaked t-shirt, as her other hand tangles into the hair at the base of your neck.
She tastes how you imagined, stronger than she did last night, and you want more. Your hand slides down her neck as you use your thumb to tilt her chin higher. Your left hand is still supporting your weight above her as she lays in the grass below. You want to get closer, but you don’t want to move too quickly. You’re happy with this, and you’re willing to take whatever she will give you.
You feel her try to pull you closer, her tongue moving further into your mouth as your own groan leaves your lips. Her wet leg slides against your own and you want nothing more than to feel her naked skin against yours. You almost let yourself settle on top of her, but a passing car pulls you both from the heated moment, placing you both back in your front yard.
“Fuck,” you breathe, pulling away from her quickly as you realize what exactly had happened. She too, sits up quickly, adjusting her wet clothes and wiping her lips of the taste of you. Yet again you have thrown yourself at this woman, and are left in an awkward situation.
You stand to your feet and adjust your pants, hoping to conceal the fact that you are hard beneath them. You run your hand over your chin as you look at her, feeling terrible for what happened in the heat of the moment.
“I’m sorry,” you start, a deeper tone taking over your voice, “We shouldn’t be doing this.” It’s the absolute last thing you want to be saying to her, your attraction to her growing tenfold over the course of the day.
She stares up at you in shock, or maybe embarrassment, you can’t be too sure. But embarrassment is the last thing she should feel. You haven’t been kissed like that in quite some time. She stands quickly, shielding her hard nipples with crossed arms. She nods and doesn’t say much, and for some reason, it makes you feel worse.
“We should um, go get cleaned up,” you say, hoping to break the tension. “You can grab the first shower, I’ll clean up out here.”
She nods and starts to walk towards the door, stopping quickly as she calls your name. “Jake?”
“Yeah?” you answer hopefully.
“Thanks for doing all this.” she says quietly, before disappearing into the shared home.
As you make your way back into the house you notice the quiet. Her bedroom door is shut, and you can’t hear a single sound from behind it. You figured she would be in the shower by now. You walk to the kitchen sink, washing the mud from your hands before attempting to touch anything else in the house. The dirt swirls down the drain as you finally hear her bedroom door open, and the quick closing of the bathroom door.
You take this as your chance to head to your bedroom, finding your phone laying on the bed, where it has been for the last several hours. Truth be told you forgot about its existence until this exact moment. You strip yourself of your muddy clothes before reaching for it, perching yourself on the edge of the bed as the screen lights up in your hands.
Missed Call: Sam
You bite your lips together as you decide whether or not to call him back, but eventually decide to fill your mind with something other than the girl in the shower. You hit his contact letting the call ring out as you hold it to your ear. He answers on the second ring.
“Dude, where have you been?” he asks as he answers the call.
“Sorry, I was doing some stuff in the yard here. What’s up?” you answer.
“Nothing too much, thought maybe we could get a drink or something later…”
Fuck yeah, thats exactly what you need.
“You know what? Yeah, I actually need to speak to you dammit.” you growl out, fully planning to interrogate him about his little session with Y/N earlier.
“About?” he asks, as if not knowing.
“I think you know. I’ll see you at Rack Em’ in about an hour?” you confirm.
“See you then.” he says, ending the call.
A few minutes later you hear her coming out of the bathroom, her figure a blur of blue towel and wet hair as she dashes across the hallway. You let out a deep breath as you pull yourself up off your bed and make your way into the bathroom, ready to shower away the mud and sweat from your skin.
You grab your towel before stepping into the bathroom, the air still steamy and smelling of her sweet body wash as you enter. You feel yourself start to grow hard just from the smell alone. You start the shower with a growl, pissed at yourself for letting her have this effect on you. For consuming your mind this quickly.
You cannot do this. She is your roommate.
Your really sexy roommate whose lips were on yours mere minutes ago.
As you step beneath the spray you push all the thoughts of her and everything that happened outside to the back of your mind, showering as quickly as possible, desperate to get out of the house and away from her before you make anything worse.
You dress quickly, pulling a few staple items from your closet and sliding into your boots. You run your fingers through your hair and give yourself a spray of cologne as you pocket your phone, keys and wallet. Your eyes flick over to see her bedroom door is still closed. You briefly consider knocking to let her know you’re leaving, but decide to just let things be and really drive home the point that the two of you are roommates and that's it. No matter if it pains you just a little.
You decide to get to the bar early, giving yourself time to sort out your thoughts before Sam arrives. The last thing you need is for him to catch wind of your feelings that have begun to blossom with Y/N. You throw back a shot of tequila, feeling the burn as it travels down your throat and warms your stomach. You can’t seem to shake the thought of the kiss from your mind, though. Or the feeling of her hands gripping your shirt, or the sounds she made. Fuck. You need another shot.
As the bartender slides you another, you see Sam walking through the door and you wave him down to the corner spot at the bar.
“You started without me?” he laughs, feigning sadness.
“Couldn’t wait on you all night,” you grin, tossing back the clear liquor.
“Tequila?” he asks, taking the empty seat next to you.
“The one and only,” you answer, nodding at the bartender as you signal for two more. “Now, why don’t you tell me about your little massage this morning, hm?”
He smiles a cheeky smile, “I wondered if she was going to tell you.”
“She mentioned it. Casually.” you say, tossing back another shot. “The fuck did you say?”
“Nothing, nothing,” he laughs, taking his own shot, but following with a lime wedge. “Just told her your whole life story and every embarrassing fact about you.”
“Fuck you, no you didn’t,” you warn with a deeper voice.
“No, calm down.” he says as if exhausted. “Just talked about band stuff. She never even mentioned that she was your roommate, but I will say she has magic hands.”
“Fuck off, Sam.”
“Oh, you sound a little jealous there, brother.” he taunts.
“Not jealous. I just– It’s weird. You being her client. That’s all.” you answer.
“Mhmm.” he hums, giving you a knowing look.
Of course at that exact moment your phone lights up on the bar top, a message from ‘Girlfriend’ displaying across the screen in big bold letters. You try to grab it before Sam notices, but you’re too late as a smile spreads across his face.
“Huh, is that right?” he taunts, elbowing your side.
“No. it’s not what you think. I had to put her in my phone like that– Our landlord thinks–Actually I don’t have to explain this to you. It’s not like that. It’s just a lie we are telling the landlord because she is too nice to tell him otherwise.” you ramble.
“Yeah, uh huh. Sure sounds like it's like that.” he answers, fully unbelieving of your explanation.
You do decide to spare a glance at her text, opening it as Sam orders another drink.
Girlfriend
8:56PM: Did you leave?
You
8:59PM: Yeah, be back late.
You keep it short and sweet and as neutral as possible, when truth be told, everything in you wants to tell her that you were just out with your brother for drinks and that you would be home soon. But you felt that was too much information for two people who just shared the same house. She didn’t need to know every detail. Right?
Girlfriend
9:01: Oh, okay. I left cookies for you on the stove.
A shock shoots right through your chest. Cookies? You suddenly find yourself wanting to be home, and in her presence, completely negating every other feeling you’ve had tonight. But no. You can’t. You need to make the line clear. Roommates. That's it.
You make it a point to not think about her for the rest of the night, spending time with your brother and making conversation with anyone who came up to you tonight. Sam continues to question you about her, but you shoot him down every single time. You need him to believe it. You even go as far as to accept attention from a girl that has been eyeing you from across the bar. A leggy blonde in a tight black dress.
That seems to shut him up as the two of you share drinks and your mind becomes hazy. The night has grown later and her jokes have become funnier, a kiss is shared between the two of you and in the back of your mind you know it feels wrong. You know that her kiss doesn't even compare to the kiss you shared with Y/N just hours ago. You let her though. You let this nameless woman kiss you in the bar just to prove a point.
Truth be told she isn’t even your type, quite the opposite actually, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that Sam now fully believes you about Y/N. As Sam makes his exit from the bar, you find yourself in the back of an Uber with this woman, Claire, on your way back to your place. His lips are attached to your neck and her hands are in your hair as the Uber driver sends you judgemental looks through the rearview mirror.
You couldn’t care less though, tipping him as he pulled up at the curb in front of your house. You fumble with the keys as she continues to kiss you, in a drunken state of her own. As the lock breaks free you both stumble inside to find the house dark. You’re both laughing as you push her down the hallway towards your bedroom. You know you’re being too loud but you don’t really care. It’s not that late is it?
“Stay here,” you say, pressing a kiss to her lips before she falls backwards onto your bed. You slip out of the bedroom and shut the door behind you as you make your way into the kitchen, the clock on the stove reading 1:04AM. Shit, maybe it is late.
You know you’re going to need another shot if you are going to sleep with this girl. You pull a bottle of whiskey from the cabinet and twist the lid. You bring the glass straight to your lips and take a long pull. It burns like hell, but you’re already too gone to care. You place the bottle on the counter as you run your hand over your face, unsure if you really want to proceed with Claire.
It’s on the walk back to your bedroom that you get your answer, though. Standing in her bedroom doorway, is Y/N. She’s in the tiniest little shorts and a tank top you’ve ever seen. Her eyes are tired and you can tell you’ve woken her from her sleep. You wonder how long she’s been asleep and what she did tonight, while you left her alone at the house.
“Is everything okay?” her groggy voice asks, it’s quiet and timid. You feel your heart shatter as you realize she is the one you would rather have waiting in your bed. From the moment you kissed her last night, you’ve wanted nothing more.
You don’t want to let her in on this, so you continue with your cold, short demeanor. “Yeah. All good. Great actually.”
Just then, Claire opens your bedroom door, peeking out, revealing her in just her lace bra. “You comin’ Jake?” she asks, and right then you want to disappear into thin air. Claire isn’t the girl you want to be with tonight, and the girl you do want to be with is watching everything happen a foot away from you.
Your eyes shoot to Y/N, who is looking at her before slowly looking back at you. You can tell she is feeling something, but she will never admit it. It’s a similar look to the one she had this afternoon. Right before she kissed you. Right before your wet bodies gave away your intentions with each other. When her lips kissed yours harder than they did last night. Needier and more wanting.
You know you can’t sleep with Claire. Not when your mind is so consumed by Y/N.
Y/N quickly nods at you, and quietly closes her bedroom door, twisting the lock and retreating back to her bed.
As if things could get any worse.
You look to Claire, and a rush of clarity washes over you. You can end this. You can make the right choice.
This has to stop. You can’t sleep with this girl.
You push your way back into your bedroom and close the door, Claire instantly trying to attach herself to your neck. All you can think of is Y/N and your kiss earlier, it’s as if that is all your brain can process at the moment. You gently push Claire away, shaking your head as you suddenly start to sober up, despite the whiskey traveling through your veins. You can’t use her like this. You won’t.
You shake your head as you look at a very confused and drunken Claire, “Listen, I’m sorry, Claire. We can’t do this. We aren’t in the right state of mind.” you pause, “I will call you an Uber to take you wherever you need to go.”
“You serious?” she asks, placing her hands on her hips, stepping back a bit. “What happened?”
“I’m sorry,” is all you can say you, pulling your phone from your pocket. It takes you two minutes to order an Uber, and instantly you begin to feel better. About everything.
“I really am sorry. I’ll let you get dressed,” you say, slipping out of your bedroom. You feel guilty for bringing her here, but you know this is for the best.
A few minutes later she joins you in the living room, her attitude drastically different than it was ten minutes ago. You feel guilty for leading her on, then shutting her down so quickly but the minute you saw Y/N you knew you were making a bad choice.
You watch as Claire walks into the kitchen and leans up against a counter as the two of you wait for the Uber to arrive. She grabs a cookie off of the stove and that's when you remember why they are there in the first place. A heat begins to take over your body as you watch her eat the cookie that Y/N left for you. Despite being upset with you, she made and left you these cookies, and all you did is throw another woman in her face. You’ve fucked up, yet again.
The Uber arrives and you usher her out the front door with haste, praying you never have to see her again, and in a city like this you likely never will. You lock the front door behind yourself and you head back to the kitchen, grabbing a cookie for yourself as you sit in the dark and enjoy what is probably the best chocolate chip cookie you’ve ever tasted.
As you brush your teeth you stare at yourself in the bathroom mirror, trying to figure out how you can fix this. If you can fix this. You briefly consider knocking on her door and telling her that you sent her home, but you realize it doesn’t really matter because truth be told you shouldn’t be with her either, no matter how badly you want to be.
Once again your mind flashes back to this afternoon. All the laughs you shared and the genuine happiness you felt as you planted the tiny seeds in the garden and brought home the sad tomato plant. She has the prettiest laugh, and the best smile. You could stare at her all day. You don’t want to sleep with random women. That’s not who you are.
You drag yourself into your bed, staring at the ceiling as you replay the kiss over and over in your mind, torturing yourself as you realize it might have been the last one. In a final act of guilt you reach for your phone, pulling it out of the pocket of your jeans and pulling up her contact.
You
1:38AM: I’m sorry I woke you. Just thought you should know I sent her home.
You place your phone on your nightstand, wondering if you’d done the right thing, and as your eyes shut you are surprised to hear it buzz with a response. You snatch it off the nightstand far too quickly.
Girlfriend
1:39AM: Why did you do that?
It takes you a minute to figure out the real answer to the question, and if the real answer is the one you should give her. You decide that you’re done lying to her. All it does is get you into more trouble. So, you tell the truth, unknowing of what the future would hold because of it, and praying you were making the right choice.
You
1:41AM: Because she's not who I want.
You
1:41AM: Sweet dreams, Y/N.

𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲- a unexpected night in with your ex turns into something you both wanted deep down.
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬- third person, 18+, NSFW, MDI, fingering, kissing, spit, let me know if I missed anything
𝐉𝐚𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐞’𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 - I don’t really know how to write smut, this was my first time so I’m not sure if this is good or not. Let me know what you guys think. I might not ever write smut again, this was a little awkward for me. But, I also did like it because Kelvin is super cute and sexy to me.

The sound of keys jingling didn’t wake the sleeping woman on the sofa. She was in a deep sleep as the man entered her small space, moving to sit down the bags he had after locking the door. He let out a sigh as he stepped into the small area that separated the living room and the kitchen. He placed his hands on his hips, looking at the sight before him.
The brown-skinned woman laid out on the couch on her stomach, wearing what looked to be one of his shirts, which rode up to show she only had her panties on the bottom. She was softly snoring with her face smushed against one of the throw pillows. Her head was angled towards the television to show she fell asleep enjoying the show, which was playing the ending scene of the movie ‘NOPE’ by Jordan Peele. The small coffee table in front of the couch was littered with small candy wrappers, some falling to the floor due to the wind from the ceiling fan.
Kelvin couldn’t help but grin at the sight of her, even though there was nothing inherently special about it. To a stranger, this sight was something as simple as an attractive woman sleeping on her couch. But to him, it was more than that. His heart just lurched at the sight of her. Her smooth skin glowed under the light of the television. How the rise and fall of her breathing made her butt poke out more from under the shirt, as well as her arched leg. How her face was being against her pillow made her lips pucker. He couldn’t help but lick his bottom lip at the sight of her.
After slipping out of his sneakers, Kelvin then padded his way over to the couch. He squatted down next to her, reaching his hand out to place it on her back. “Baby,” He hummed, rubbing his hand up and down her back. “It’s time to get up, you’ve been sleeping all day.” He said softly, watching her face.
The woman’s brows twitched, her lips slightly scrunching. That was all the reaction he got from her, causing him to pursue his lips. “Come on, baby. You know sleeping in late messes up your sleeping schedule and you hate that.” He said again, moving his hand down her back to creep his way under the fabric of the loose shirt. This caused the tee to rise even more, showing more of her plump bottom in her cute cotton panties. He could also feel her smooth back under his fingers, running his pads up and down the curve in the center. Her face didn’t change, if anything it looked like she got more comfortable within her slumber, humming at the feeling of his fingers on her skin.
Kelvin couldn’t help the small grin that made its ways onto his face, his ears delighted by the soft sounds she was subtly making.
“See, I tried to do be cute with you but obviously that’s not what you listen to so I’m going back to my ways.” He began as he adjusted himself in his squat, about to rise. And before he could even think about it, he smacked her exposed butt cheek. “Get up, girl, I got food.” He said before licking his lips and standing to make it way back over to the kitchen, though tempted to watch it recoil under his pressure.
The woman on the couch groaned, sitting up with a hiss and she clenched her bottom. “Dammit Kelvin.” She groaned in a groggy voice, still not used to the feeling of the unexpected wake up no matter how many times he did it. As well as the feeling she always got afterwards that sent a shock of arousal through her body, which she thought couldn’t be good to immediately wake up with.
“I got your favorite.” The man grinned over at her from the kitchenette as he began to take takeout buns from the bags he sat down in earlier. She furrowed her brows, her eyes adjusting to the world as she gazed at him as she sat up. “What are you doing here?” She asked, now sitting on the soft sting that he left as she scratched her back.
“Saving your life and your bad attitude.” He said, but even falling at her already sour mood as she placed the food on the counter and disposed of the bags. She smacked her lips, looking over at him. “Dramatic.” She mumbled to herself.
“Not dramatic.” Kelvin heard her. “Nala said you weren’t feeling well and that you fell asleep. That was five hours ago and it’s 10:30pm. You haven’t eaten and you hate it when your sleep schedule gets messed up.” He explained as he opened the containers around him, filled with different varieties of food from this stakeshack down the street. “You’re blessed to have me.” He stated as he picked up and fry and ate hit, rolling his neck and eyes at the woman.
The woman could only blink at him from across the room, watching as he raised his eyebrows at her before going back to his food. “Come eat.” He demanded.
“Why is Nala always telling my business.” She playfully hissed, ignoring what he said and throwing her body into the back of the couch in a small tantrum.
“Because she loved you and you don’t tend to give a damn about yourself sometimes. Now, I’m not going to say come get this food one for a time.” He said again. His tone was much for fine this time, catching her avoidance of his eyes and all-around presence since he’d been in this side of the room. His weight was leaned onto his hands, which held up his figure against the countertop, his eyes locked on her. A lot of people didn’t expect such an aura from Kelvin, and that’s what about him that always drew her in.
One would never suspect a man like him to have this intimidating nature, and he quite honestly didn’t know he had it either but it was a mix of everything about him. His non wavering confidence, his charismatic demeanor, he always had it and he always knew how to turn it on and off. All that with a serious tone, his sharp gaze and a locked jaw, it had everyone freezing and submitting to his will.
That’s why she stood up from the couch then, no questions asked as she trudged her half bare figure over to the other side of the counter. Her arms was crossed and she avoided eye contact with him the whole way, even thought his gaze was not leaving her from until she stood directly across from him.
“Good.” He said, picking up another fry and popping it into his mouth. She glanced up at him from the food, watching as his jaw flexed as he chewed. “I was in a hurry so I just got your usual down the street. A double cheeseburger with American and Jalapeño cheese and mushrooms. And a large fry.” He said, not looking up at her as she gathered her meal so it was layer out in front of her. She just nodded, arms crossed as her mouth almost began to water at the sight of the food in front of her. She was quick to open the paper containers the greasy food was left in, eating her first meal of the day at almost 11:00pm.
It was silent between them as they ate. The silence between was’t as awkward as it could be due to all the noise that surround them. Amazon Prime starting another movie in the television after the last one stopped. The ceiling fan with its soft hum as it cooled the already drafty apartment. The sound of their chewing as they devoured their food, her faster then him since she was wasting like a started woman. And the sound of police sirens outside, maybe even an ambulance if you really focused.
She took a large sip from the lemonade he got her before placing the thin cut down. “What are you doing here?” She asked, not taking her eyes off her food.
Kelvin glanced up at her, seeing her stilling looking down as she dipped her fries into an extra jalapeño cheese dip. “I heard you didn’t feeling well.” He stated simply. She shook her head, stilling looking down at her food. “No.” She said before stuffing a cheesy fry into her mouth. Kelvin quirked a brow at her.
“No?”
“No, I mean, what are you doing here, Kelvin.” She said, now glancing up and, to her surprise, locking eyes with him. She blinked. “I don’t like you out here, it’s not safe.”
“I don’t like you out here.” He said firmly, raising his head more to look at her. She only licked her lips, letting out a small sigh as she glanced away from him. “I told you not to come back.” She said.
“And if I don’t, who’s going to check on you?” He questioned as if the answer was obvious.
“Nala still lives downstairs.” She added quickly.
“Nala hasn’t been in her apartment in two weeks because she’s been with Aaron.”
“She calls.” She shrugged, her brows furrowed as she started to get annoyed.
“Well, today is just one of those days where she was checking and you weren’t answering. I was already out so I decided to stop by and calm her nerves.” Kelvin answered back just as quickly as she did, moving to cross his arms as she looked at the girl who was very focused on her spicy cheesy dip. She shoved a fry in her mouth, physically stopping herself from saying ‘And your nerves?’. She didn’t know if she could handle his answer.
“Well, I’m fine, so…” She trailed off with a shrug, offering him a small glance. Kelvin just gave her a once-over. “Yeah, we’ll see.” He said. She frowned at him, sitting down her cheese. “I am fine, Kelvin.” She said firmly, but the man had already started cleaning up his trash in front of him. “Okay.” He said, offering her a glance as he tidied up.
“It’s nothing serious.” She said, finishing her food as well, subconsciously tracking after him as he moved to throw the trash in the bin on the other end of the counter, on the floor. “I almost ate a whole bag of small Reece’s cups and Kisses. You know how I get when I have too much sugar.” She said, gesturing over to the candy wrappers that lay on the table and floor. That seems to catch his interest, the man moving to pick up the wrappers from the living room, the woman telling behind him still.
“Mmhmm.” He said as he gather the trash into his large hands and then moved to dispose of it as well, sidestepping the woman the blocked his path. He was about to turn and face the living room again but she was already in front of him, her arms crossed. “I’m fine.” She said firmly.
“Why are you trying to convince me that you’re fine?” He asked, folding his arms as well. They blinked at him. “I'm not trying to convince you. I’m just telling you.”
“And I said okay.” He stated. “It’s not like that’s gonna make me leave.” He scoffed with a chortle, making his way around her. She frowned, looking at the empty spot he left before her. She quickly turned just as he planted his rear on the sofa.
“What do you mean?” She questioned, her tone less hostile than before. Kelvin picked up the remote from the table and began looking through her subscriptions. “I’m not leaving.” He said, not taking his eyes off the screen.
“You’re staying?” She asked, her eyes widening slightly. Kevin glanced over at her. “Yeah, that’s, like, the definition of not leaving.” He grinned, not hiding the way his eyes traced her figure. From her smooth legs to her round shoulder that hung out the large neck of the shirt, that also didn’t seem to cover enough. She crossed her arms tighter around herself, feeling exposed under his gaze, but that only brought attention to her unsupported breasts that were now being held up by her forearms. She cleared her throat from its dry spell at his gaze.
“Why are you staying?” She asked.
“Because I can.” He shrugged. She jerked her head back at him. “Uh, no.” She stated firmly. “You can’t just make plans to stay at someone else place without permission. This is my house.” She said. Kelvin shifted in his seat, leaning further into the back of the couch with his crotch further out, his legs spreading as he got comfortable. He only turned his gaze to her, still facing the television. “Do you want me to leave?” He asked coyly. And they both knew what he was doing. He was using that silver tongue of his to get what he wanted and they both knew it was going to work. All Kelvin had to do was bat his eyelashes or smile with those gorges teeth and he could get anything he wanted. And he could never say no to that outrageously handsome but somewhat adorable face.
She pursed her lips as she looked down at her feet, her bare toes padding against the brown wood out of nerves. “No.” She mumbled, a slight pout in her lips. Kelvin couldn’t hide his grin, and she wasn’t looking in the first place. He had her right where he wanted her.
Their relationship was complicated. From past lovers to co-workers to…whatever it was now, there was always this odd cat and mouse game between you. Kelvin has always been the same, charming and funny, used to hide his true vulnerability and deep wants. She was blunt and sarcastic, even though he had an immense amount of love and affection to give. They were sort of perfect, but those veils they rarely let down led to a toxic path. There was never any truth between them, things were always said but weren’t to be taken serious, even if they seemed like it. Passive aggressiveness and stubborn attitudes from both ends. It was all so destructive.
But no matter how bad it got, they both knew the feelings they still held for one another. She would always love him. He was some of her best memories, her greatest times. He showed and taught her so much, that it was hard for her to go through life without thinking of him. He was the angel on her shoulder and when she created, he was her muse. Pained but beautiful. He was everything she wanted to give her love to.
Kelvin could never hate her. He could never not care for her. She was this alluring force that pulled at his heart wherever he went. She was the angelic voice he heard whenever he was speaking to another woman, or whenever he booked a new role. She was the warm embrace he felt every time he went to bed at night and woke in the morning, taking God that the sun has risen, he has seen another day, and that her memory has never left his mind. She was as clear as day and if he had to create her form from memory, he would get it to the last detail.
They had their down, which they were still in, but boy were their highs above the clouds.
She looked up from her toes, seeing his eyes were still on her. He then patted the space next to him. “Come here, honey.” He said softly, and she could feel the warmth spread through her insides.
She made her way over to him with little hesitation. Kelvin’s eyes never left her face, angling his head up as she got closer, even though she never looked him in the eye until she stood above him. He thought she was going to take a seat in the place he patted, but to both of their surprise, she sat herself in his lap. Her legs straddled his and his hands subconsciously made their way to her thighs. Kelvin’s gaze was locked on her’s, the pair just looking at one another.
She bright her hands up to his shoulders, beginning to play with the strings on his back jacket. She dint stay there long, her fingers moving to the silver zipper in the middle of his chest, feeling the heat radiating off of him. She pulled the zipper down slowly, her eyes groaned in her hands, too nervous to look at the man she knew was looking at her. Kelvin watched her movements the whole way, looking at her face to see if he could see her thoughts through her skin, only glancing down when the garment was fully unzipped.
He didn’t move a muscle, his fingers still on the outside of her warm and bare thighs. At first he thought she was going to pull the jacket off, showing his black wife pleaser underneath. But she didn’t take the jacket off. She slipped her hands down his torso slowly, feeling the slightly tensing muscles underneath her fingers from the agony she was putting Kelvin through with her touch. She then let her fingers drag her closer, the mumble limbs slipping around his waist and towards his back. She then had her arms wrapped around his waist, her chest against his and her head on his shoulder. Kelvin blinked, thinking that this whole interaction was going to go another route, but it instead seemed that she just wanted to cuddle.
But he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist, pulling her in closer on his lap. His breath lightly hitched at the feeling of her heated area rubbing against his own. He could also feel her lush chest against his from under her shirt, her nipples now pert against his chis hard chest.
Her hands didn’t stop their movements on him once her arms were around his waist. She kept her fingers softly rubbing against his back as she leaned her head against his shoulder, her nose taking in his nice bergamot smell.
“Oh, honey.” He cooed as he rubbed his hands up and down her back, riding her shirt up. He then leaned his head on top of hers, the skin of his cheek connecting with her warm forehead. “It’s okay. You’re just a little under the weather, that’s all.” He said softly before placing his lips on the closest skin of hers, which was on the corner of her mouth. Her breath hitched at the feeling of his lips near hers and she moved to follow his, only to make contact with his neck. She wasn’t thinking as herself anymore as she began to kiss at his neck, small pecks repetitively hitting the same spot.
Kelvin hummed at the feeling of her lips on his skin, his hands on her hips tightening. “I’ll make you feel better baby, don’t worry.” He mumbled, his large hands running down that arch of her back. She continued to kiss at his neck, curving under his touch that stopped at her ass. She hummed against his skin, her kisses becoming deeper as she began sucking at the spot under his jaw.
Kelvin’s hands tracked over her rear and back to her thighs, cupping the bottom of her cheeks. He’d relate the action again and again, his tracing slow and deliberate. She hummed at the feeling of his hands moving over her barely covered bottom then all the way back up to her back, pushing her shirt up further and further each time, uncovering her breasts. She felt his chest vibrate as hummed. He’d stop every now and then, grabbing handfuls of her ass, meshing the fat together in his hands as he hummed in enjoyment.
She subconsciously started to grind her hips against his, caught up in the feeling he was giving her with his simple touch. Kelvin hissed when her center met his bulge briefly, his grip tightening on her ass cheeks. She hissed as he pulled her bottom, feeling a rush leave and wet the center of her panties. She flexed her thoughts around his, causing him to chuckle.
“You like that?” Kelvin asked her in her ear. She hummed in a response, the sound coming almost coming out as a moan. “Yeah?” He grinned, his fingers tips inching closer to her center. She agreed again, her kisses becoming sloppy on his neck. Her breath then hitched as Kelvin began to rub his hand against her heat, dampening the grey underwear further. She let out a moan against his neck at the unexpected contact, her cool breath hitting the salvia that gathered around the hockey she gave him. Kelvin softly hissed at the feeling of her wetness against his fingers through the cloth and the cool air hitting the stinging spot on his neck.
Feeling a newfound scene of arousal, she placed her lips feverishly against his skin again, moving her lips from under his jaw, to the side of his neck and then all the way to under his ear. Kelvin kept a slow pace as he rubbed her pussy from the back. She was rolling her hips against his aar the feeling, her lips still attached to his skin. He paused his rubbing to gather the sides of the cloth in his hands, pulling it taunt at her center. She moaned out again, feeling the pressure against her clit. Her lips never detached from him, moving up to nip at his ears as she let out soft noses of pleasure.
Kelvin then moved the fabric to the side, giving view to the fire between them. She felt the cool air hit her lips, not long having to deal with the shiver before Kelvin’s fingers were rubbing up and down against her. “Ooh, baby, it’s so much.” He moaned at the feeling of her in his hands, the wetness gathering around his fingers. She gave his ears a few licks and bites before moving her way to his face. Her breaths were ragged against his cheek, basking in the feeling he was becoming within her from just swipes at her labia.
“Fuck.” She sighed, her hips moving to match the pace of his hand strokes from around her body. “Ohh Kelvin.” She moaned, her lips still against his skin, although not moving. He hummed, turning his head towards her. “Yes, baby?” He questioned immediately, his eyes taking in her flushed face. She didn’t answer, only looking at his relaxed expression as she felt a knot in her stomach. Kelvin didn’t seem to expect an answer either, his eyes netting hers, taking in the sight of what his fingers were doing to her.
“You’re so wet already.” He said, his words breathy against her slightly opened mouth that was letting out equally breathy moans. He didn’t take his eyes off her hers, the pair just looking at eachother as he spoke to her. “You feel so good in my hands. But you know that, right? Hmm? All wet and ready for me even when you’re sick. Such a good girl.” He hummed seductively, watching and feeling as his words affected her. He knew it would drive her crazy, she lived for his words, not matter how small. She could feel herself tightening on the inside at the utterance of anything he said. Overwhelmed by his small praise, she lent forward, placing her lips into his plump ones that’s been rubbing against hers as he spoke.
She then let out a moan into his mouth just as she felt two of his fingers enter her. The feeling had her biting down in his juice lips, inciting a muffled moan of slight pain and pleasure to come from his mouth. The slight sting didn’t last long, the woman moving her tongue to lick at his bottom lip, as if trying to soothe the pain. She then began sucking and nipping at the soft appendage, not caring for the wet mess it was making in the both of their faces. One hand had made its way to his neck while the other was sifting down his body to palm at the bulge in his sweats just beneath her center. Kelvin, caught up in the kissing and fingering, brought his other hand to her breast under her shirt that was almost off anyways. He caressed her supple nipples, rubbing his fingers around the nub that formed, all while his fingers sped up.
She was overwhelmed with pleasure, the feelings of his hands everywhere while his lips drifted across her face. She could barely focus her hands on his bulge. She just kept palming at it, her moans getting louder from just the thought of pulling it out and going crazy on it. “Fuck, Kelvin, oh my goodness.” She sighed, her eyes closing as his fingers sped up.
Kelvin hummed against her lips as he felt her throb around his fingers. “Come on, give it to me. I know you can do it, baby.” His words enticed more moans from her, the woman practically whining as she tried to focus on something. His other hand was still at her titties, pinching and rubbing on her nipples, while his fingers worked magic inside of her. “I want it all over my fingers so I can taste it afterward. Be good and give it all to me, baby.” He continued to speak. She then felt waves of warmth cascade across her limbs to match the near sob in her throat, her breath pausing as his fingers continued.
He kept his kisses again her skin going as he rode out her orgasm. His lips laid small pecks against her open mouth as she caught her breath. She was silent as felt Kelvin finally pull his hand away from her, watching as he brought the soaked fingers up to his supple lips. Every trace of her against his hand was washed away by his tongue. His eyes were trained on her while hers watched his mouth. Once he was finished, she didn’t waste any time to place her lips against his. She stuck her tongue into his mouth, licking at any traces of herself on his. She could feel her taste rubbing against his own as she moved her hips on his crotch, still feeling the bulge he had in his pants. Kelvin pulled back once he felt it and she bang sucking on his lip again, knowing that this was only going to go further if he didn’t stop it.
He began to run his palms up and down her legs again, calming her down from her high while he showered her temple with whispered praises and sweet kisses. Once her breathing was even, she found herself still in his lap, her arms wrapped around his neck as they just enjoyed the feeling in each other’s arms. His lips were resting on her temple when she turned her head to see felt place her lips against his. The kiss was chaste, the woman pulling back to look him in the eyes. Kelvin’s eyes just jumped between hers, her pupils still blown and reflecting the soft light of the living room. She gave him one more small peck before closing her eyes and rubbing her nose against his, causing the man to chuckle.
“Okay, now you’re getting clingy.” He grinned, looking at the close face. “Like a cat.” He said, but his voice was soft, rubbing his hands up and down her back as she basked in his proximity. “Let’s get you to bed.” He stated when he reached in a set from her, the woman just resting against him. This was usual for them, she tended to always, sort of, shut down after being intimate with Kelvin. She liked being in his care and she knew he would go above and beyond for her. But she also hated when her mind gained clarity hours later and she remembered that they weren’t together anymore.
He stood up with the woman still in his arms, her legs moving to wrap around his waist as he moved down the small hallway off the wall of the television and into the room to his right. The room was dark but he was an expert at moving about in the area at this point, dodging the clothes she had in the floor to place her on the bed. He gave her a kiss before he stood back up.
“I’ll be right back.” He said before leaving the room. He returned seconds later with a damp cloth. He cleaned her before going through her drawers to grab a fresh pair of underwear. Her eyes didn’t leave his form once, watching as he handled her with care. She could feel her heart skip a beat every time he looked up, making eye contact. He would flash a quick smile before continuing. Once he was done, he discarded his sweats and his shirt, moving to place himself in bed next to her. Kelvin usually liked to be the little spoon and that’s how they usually slept, but she clung to him as soon as he planted his rear into the mattress. He chuckled, leaning back with the girl in his arms, her head on his chest, rubbing her fingers up and down the apex of his pectorals. He kissed her forehead before settling back into the pillows. And they drifted off to sleep, their breaths evening out wrapped in each other’s arms.

The worst day of your life happened after one of your husband’s work trips. He said that his team had gotten a lead on what might have happened to his brother and that he had to investigate. That was par for the course, every couple months there would be another potential lead on where your brother-in-law could be, but every couple months Jun-ho would be sorely disappointed.
This time was different. He said he would be gone for a couple of days, and that he didn’t know if he would be able to get in contact. He left for one day, and then two, then more. His department panicked, apparently, it wasn’t a work trip and one of their detectives went missing. After a week his picture was on the nightly news, and after 10 days you were doing interviews begging for anyone who had any information to step forward. His mother came to sleep at your apartment, and she said she just wanted to help out with her daughter-in-law, but you could hear her sobs in the middle of the night through the thin walls between your bedroom and the guest room.
At 5 AM, a week after Jun-ho’s disappearance, you got a call. They had found him. He was in a specialized emergency hospital on the outskirts of Seoul, and he was in a coma. You rushed to your car with your mother-in-law and broke speed limits that Jun-ho would never let you break when he was in the car with you.
The hospital parking lot was nearly empty. The lobby was quiet when you walked in, and the front desk woman almost looked shocked when she saw two women with deep circles under their eyes and hair sticking in every direction. Honestly, you couldn’t care less. She was the receptionist at a hospital, if that was the craziest thing she’d seen she was in for a rude awakening when an actual patient came up to her desk.
She quickly directed you to his hotel room, on the 3rd floor, where his supervisor was already waiting. Time seemed to slow down as you rode the elevator. It couldn’t have taken longer than 20 seconds, but it felt like years. What if he was dying? What if he didn’t wake up? What if he was getting worse? Your thoughts kept racing, and you and Jun-ho’s mother couldn’t share a single word between the two of you between all of the panic going on inside your heads.
The floor was so quiet you could hear the squeak of a nurse’s shoes down the hallway. You should’ve run to your husband's bedside, but you couldn’t. You took one step at a time, terrified of what might await you. His supervisor stepped out the door and closed it. He looked at you with tired eyes. “Mrs. Hwang, Mrs. Park, I’m glad you could make it.”
“How’s my husband?” Formalities could wait. Formalities could go to hell.
He sighed, and your heart skipped several beats. “How is he?!” Jun-ho’s mother yelled.
“He’s okay, he seems to be mostly stable, but I-” He raised his hand and scratched the back of his head, looking away at the ground, “I gotta be honest. He’s not great. He was shot and fell from a high distance into water. He passed out in the water and the doctors think he breathed in water and fell unconscious. They’re not sure of the extent of brain damage because he hasn’t woken up, but the lack of oxygen to his brain likely caused some sort of impact. There’s more, but they would only tell me the basics because I’m not family.”
You couldn’t breathe. You couldn’t think. What if he didn’t wake up? What if he did and he wasn’t the same? Memories of the last night you spent together raced through your head. It had been a long exhausting day, and he somehow knew how terrible it had been. He brought takeout home and made an extra stop to get your favorite dessert from a bakery. He set the food down on the kitchen table and immediately made his way to you on the couch, leaned down, and kissed you until you needed to come up for air. You turned off the tv and sat on the couch for hours, eating and talking and eventually fucking. Right before you went to bed he told you that he was going on the trip tomorrow, and you just smiled and nodded, thinking it was going to be like all the other times.
You pushed past the sergeant and walked into your husband’s room. His bed was separated from an empty one by a curtain. You couldn’t feel your own feet as you walked towards it, and it almost felt like your hand wasn’t moving at all when you pushed past the curtain.
Jun-ho looked like death. There was a tube shoved in his throat and his skin was so pale it looked translucent, the blue of his veins showing through on his arm next to an IV. The circles under his eyes were deep and dark, and he was in a neck brace, with his head bandaged.
It felt like all the air had been sucked out of your lungs. The second his mother saw him, she collapsed at his side and laid her body over his legs. Her cries were guttural and came from something that must’ve broken inside of her. “My baby, my baby. I lost one son, I’ll die if I lose another.”
You couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t cry. You sunk to a chair at his side and reached out for his hand. He was so cold. His skin felt like he had just been taken out of the ocean minutes before, and his heart rate was so slow it felt like it was second between beats.
You didn’t hear the doctor come into the room until he spoke. Jun-ho’s mother looked up and stared at him like he was an angel, but you couldn’t look away from your husband’s unmoving body.
“Mrs. Hwang, can I talk to you about your husband’s condition?” You didn’t move, his mother had to beg the doctor to continue speaking. “He was shot in his left shoulder, luckily the bullet didn’t hit any vital organs, but because of the time between the injury and his arrival at the hospital, he lost a significant amount of blood. We think he hit the water head-first, and the impact caused his neck to break, luckily, there was no spinal cord damage. We induced him into a coma once he reached the hospital, so unfortunately we aren’t able to tell the extent of the damage unless he wakes.”
Your mother and law stood up “Unless? What do you mean by unless?!” she screamed. “My son is not going to die, do you hear me?!”
You felt broken, Jun-ho had to wake up, he had to. You didn’t care if he couldn’t walk, or speak, but he had to wake up.
You could hear fists banging against the doctor’s chest, but you didn’t turn around. Just kept staring at your husband’s pale face, and pale hands.
The hospital had apparently received a large grant during COVID to expand, and when the pandemic had died down they became designated only for acute emergency cases and recovery care, and many rooms were kept vacant. The staff let you stay in the other bed in his room, and there was a shower attached to the room, designed for patients in long-term recovery and their family members. The hospital had a small cafeteria that made shockingly delicious Korean food, and they delivered the meals to the room three times a day. Before long, you became used to the tired routine of late-night check-ups and tired smiles from the nurses urging you to go home and rest. You were terrified that if you left the hospital Jun-ho would die before you could get back, but you couldn’t tell the nurses that. You just told the nurses that your house was far away and it was more convenient to stay at the hospital as opposed to making the commute or getting a hotel room.
It was three weeks before Jun-ho moved. In that time, you hadn’t left the hospital once. He squeezed your hand while you were holding it, and at first, you thought you imagined it. You called the doctor, and she said she would keep an eye on it, but not to get your hopes up- apparently twitching was normal in coma patients. Several hours later you felt the squeeze again, and when you looked up, you saw Jun-ho’s eyes open the slightest bit.
It was like a month’s worth of fear and pain cascaded over in a heartbeat, and you collapsed on his chest in broken sobs, staring up at your husband. His mother was there, and she leaned over at him, pleading his name. He stared at you for as long as he could, until his eyes closed again, his eyelids twitching like he wanted them to stay open. Once his eyes closed your hand was still holding his in a tight grip, and you reached open to press the button again.
In the next couple of days, he went in and out of consciousness at increasing intervals. The first moment where you felt like you could breathe again came a week after he first squeezed your hand, when you awoke from sleeping laying on his lap while you sat in the chair to the sound of gagging. You heard his heartbeat increase and saw his throat convulse and his eyes flash open as he fought his breathing tube.
You immediately pressed the call button for the nurse, and when they took too long you went out into the hallway and screamed for a nurse. There were only a couple of patients on his hall, and they could go screw themselves if they thought their sleep was more important than your husband's choking. The nurse and doctor came running and closed the door on you. Within a couple of minutes the nurse opened the door, and let you step inside. The doctor tried to talk to you, but you couldn’t hear anything she was saying as you walked past her toward your husband’s side.
“Baby,” Jun-ho whispered. His voice was hoarse and broken, and you could feel tears streaming down your face.
“Honey, you’re- you’re here.” You cried more and more, and he painfully reached his arm up to you.
“It’s okay (y/n), I was never going anywhere, I’m here.” You tucked your head into his neck and sobbed into his hospital gown.
He stroked your hair slowly until his hand rested on the back of your head. You looked up to see that he had fallen back asleep, exhausted from the ordeal of choking on his breathing tube. You pressed a kiss to his cheek, wet from a single tear rolling down his face, and tucked your head back down to fall asleep again.
You woke up to a nurse gently shaking you away, informing you that you had to sleep in the other bed to prevent infection. You wanted to fight her for doing her job, but obliged. You fell back asleep quickly, too tired to stay awake because of the crying you had just finished doing.
“(Y/n).” You awoke to a quiet voice, blinking your eyes because of the bright sunlight streaming through the window. You immediately looked over at Jun-ho to see your fiance with his head turned looking at you.
“Jun-ho.” You stood up, stumbling out of bed in the clothes you had to have been wearing for at least a couple of days before now, and went over to kiss him on the lips, the same way he had the last time you had seen him before he went missing. He reciprocated with more force than you thought someone who hadn’t moved any part of his body in a month could.
“I missed you so much honey, I couldn’t breathe for so long.” He smiled and wiped a tear off of your face.
“I know baby, but I’m here now, I’m here.” He looked at you with so much love and life in his eyes, exactly what you had been missing for the past month.
“I was so scared Jun-ho, first I couldn’t find you, and then once I did I- I wasn’t sure.” You paused, another tear streaming down your face. “I wasn’t sure you would make it.” You whispered.
“I know (y/n), and I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
“You- you got shot. You fell from really high into the water far out in the ocean. You have no idea how scared I was.”
His brow furrowed painfully before he suddenly pulled his head back and winced. “Jun-ho, Jun-ho? Are you okay?!”
You frantically pushed the call button and within seconds there was a team of doctors and nurses entering the room. They slowed slightly when they saw the scene in front of them, and quickly determined there was no immediate danger, and quickly began examining him and asking you both questions. Once the rest of the group left, Jun-ho’s main doctor sat in a chair to explain the situation to the both of you.
She explained what the team had seen when they had checked Jun-ho over, and explained the need for another set of scans to ensure there was no serious brain injury. “We also will need to call the police back to the hospital, because of the gunshot wound.”
Jun-ho froze, and his back grew stiff. “Baby, what’s wrong?” You rested your hand in his grip, tightening it around his.
“Nothing’s wrong, just nervous about the tests.” He squeezed your hand back and smiled up at you at your position sitting next to him on the bed. His body remained stiff, and your brow furrowed in confusion. He was likely traumatized and in pain, both physically and mentally.
Once the doctor left, you apprehensively asked him “Honey, I know you probably don’t want to talk about it, but… What happened when you were gone, with the fall, and the gunshot wound?”
He looked away from you and glanced out the window. He paused, “I don’t know. I don’t remember what happened.”
You leaned in and squeezed his hand again. “It’s okay if you do, I just want to help you.”
He remained looking out the window, until he looked back at you, something tight across his eyes. “I really don’t know, can we please talk about something else. I’m going to get enough of that from my coworkers later anyways.” He laughed, but the tightness across his face remained the same.
Smiling a similar tight smile, you squeezed his hand back. “Okay. Just, let me know if you remember anything.”
“Now, is there anything I can do to help you?”
“Jun-ho, I’m not the one who just woke up from a coma, that’s my line!” Jun-ho smiled a real smile, and you copied him, smiling your first genuine smile in weeks.
After the tests, you wheeled Jun-ho in a wheelchair back into his hospital room, where you were greeted by his boss sitting in your usual chair next to his bedside. He stood up to greet you, “Detective! It’s so good to see you awake again!” He bowed to Jun-ho, and your husband nodded his head in return.
“I’m sorry to bother you, but do you think we could do the interview now? Just so we don’t get more in the way of you and your lovely wife.” He smiled, but there was anxiety furrowing his brow. He was clearly using many tactics that you watched Jun-ho explain that the police force used on victims and their families.
Jun-ho smiled back, “of course.” He looked up at you and smiled a similar tight smile towards you. “Honey, do you think you could go and get some coffee from downstairs for us?”
You nodded, unsure of what to do as you could clearly tell that the coffee run was just an excuse to get you out of the room. “Of course.” There wasn’t anything you could do about it, and confronting your husband about something he is clearly not ready to talk about would certainly not be a solution. “Officer, would you like me to get you anything?”
He waved you off and you hesitantly exited the room to go downstairs.
Due to the emptiness of the hospital, it didn’t take you long to go down to the cafeteria, pick up some coffee for you and Jun-ho, and come back upstairs. When you reached the floor that the room was on, you hesitated, noticing that the door was cracked and the sounds of him and his boss were still quietly filtering out into the hallway.
You debated for a second staying and eavesdropping, but your moral compass won out in the end. Whatever it was, Jun-ho was clearly not ready to tell you. You didn’t want to betray his trust, and eventually, he would share it with you. The two of you had no secrets between you. If there ever was a night when Jun-ho would have to stay later at work, or was suddenly asked to hang out by his friends, he would call you immediately and tell you what was going on and when he would probably be home. Not that you necessarily needed him to, you trusted him, but he insisted that he never wanted you to worry after him. You did the same in turn, even though your job was far less demanding than his and plans came up far less sporadically for you than they did for him.
As you walked away, you heard a sliver of the conversation “hundreds… shot.” It made you pause in your step. You must’ve misheard. Maybe he had said something else. Maybe you were too sleep-deprived and stressed to think clearly. Still, you turned those words around in your head as you sat in a chair in the hallway next to the nurse’s station.
If you hadn’t misheard- if; what would it mean? Did Jun-ho have a brain injury that didn’t turn up on scans that makes him misremember what happened? Or- or was he telling the truth? Your husband wasn’t a liar, he was the perfect detective because of his strict moral compass, so that must mean… That must mean that if there was no brain injury, and if you didn’t mishear, wherever Jun-ho was he had watched hundreds of people die.
You heard a knock on the doorframe, “Mrs. Hwang, we’re done with the interview.”
You stood up and walked toward the door when the other detective put his hand on your shoulder while his face grimaced. “I hope everything works out well for the two of you, I really do.” With that foreboding line of encouragement, he walked past you and towards the elevator.
When you entered the room, Jun-ho smiled at you. “(Y/n).” You walked towards him and kissed his forehead, handing him the cup of coffee.
Kissing his forehead, you asked, “How did it go? Are you alright?”
Jun-ho’s brow creased, but he smiled back at you still. “It went well, I just told him that I didn’t know anything.”
That didn’t make sense. You had to have been gone for at least 20 minutes, there was no way those 15 minutes were filled with the other detective asking questions that your husband kept saying no to.
“I’ll have to go into the station later on after I’m discharged and give a longer more formal statement, but for now they’ll leave us alone.”
“Great, I’m glad to have you all to myself.” You leaned over and kissed him on the lips again. You trusted him, and whatever it was that he wasn’t telling you, he would open up about soon.
He didn’t. After another 2 weeks, the hospital was completely sure there were no long-standing effects. Besides having to regularly come in for check-ups and to carefully not hurt the shoulder where he was shot, miraculously there were no other serious effects.
You had finally gone back into the apartment after he woke up, although you weren’t happy about going back when it was lifeless due to Jun-ho’s absence. By the time he was discharged, the apartment was dust-free, and you made sure that everything was the same as it had been when he had first gone missing.
In the past couple of weeks, Jun-ho had been too calm. He was casual about just about everything. He was smiling, and making jokes, like nothing had ever happened. But, underneath it all, you could tell something was different. When you’ve been with someone for so long, had exchanged wedding vows, and slept in the same bed for years, you just knew them. You knew your husband, and something was off about him. He refused to go to sleep in the hospital room with the door open, and every time you came or went he would make you close the door behind you. He insisted that you spent the night in the hotel room with him (not that you were complaining) even when he was far out of the danger zone. On the car ride home from the hospital he would check the mirrors every time he thought you weren’t looking.
There was something completely off about him, he seemed paranoid, and for the first time in your relationship besides his brother’s disappearance- scared. But every time you would ask him what was wrong, he would just smile and say “I’m alright, just adjusting.”
You carried all of your stuff to the apartment, insisting on doing so even though your stubborn husband wanted to carry luggage even with a bullet recently being removed from his shoulder. But, when you left the elevator and were about to go into the apartment, he stopped you by putting his hand out.
“Baby, I just want to get inside. This is heavy.” You complained.
“I know, just- just give me a minute. I want to check something.” He silently turned the key to your small apartment, took off both his shoes, and stepped inside. He pulled up his pant leg slightly and took out a gun that you didn’t even notice was there.
“Jun-ho!”
He turned back to you and put his finger to his lips, shushing you. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
He closed the door behind him, and you stood there shocked. You knew something was wrong, but you didn’t expect him to take out a gun and search your home.
In a couple of minutes, he came back out. “What the hell Jun-ho? What was that!”
“It was nothing, I’m sorry.” He put the gun back away.
“Why would you search our house? You’ve never done that before. Seriously Jun-ho, what’s going on?” You shouted, exasperated by him saying one thing and acting in a completely opposite way.
“It’s nothing.” He sighed, “I’m sorry (y/n), I’m just scared. It’s been a while since I’ve been out of the hospital, so I’m nervous.” He leaned in and gave you a hug, which you reciprocated. But still, that wasn’t the whole truth.
“I think you should see someone Jun-ho, this isn’t normal.” You said into your husband’s chest.
“(Y/n), I’m fine. I promise.” You leaned your head up and kissed him again.
The first week back was difficult. Jun-ho seemed terrified of just about everything around him. The both of you barely left the house, and when you did his hand held yours in a tight grip.
Your job had given you an extended leave to take care of Jun-ho, but your leave was ending in a few weeks once the two-month mark passed.
You were laying in bed one night, Jun-ho tracing circles on your shoulder as you spooned after making love. “Jun-ho, I’m worried about you.”
He kissed your shoulder, “what about?” He said casually.
You rolled over to face him. “About everything, you’ve been so scared and stressed. I don’t know what’s going to happen once I go back to work.”
He propped his head on his hand as he laid on his side, “I know, I’m sorry. I’m starting to feel better. I’m sorry I’ve been so paranoid lately.”
You sighed, “I want you to see someone Jun-ho. I don’t want this to fester and fester.”
He sighed, “I know (y/n), I promise it’ll get better soon. I talked to the chief today, I’ll go back to work next week.”
You shot up in bed, “two weeks? Babe, that isn’t nearly enough time. You still can’t lift anything heavier than a paper clip with your left arm.”
Jun-ho reached back towards you and stroked your arm. “Well good thing I’m right-handed.” He smirked.
Tilting your head, you just looked back at your husband anxiously. “Jun-ho this is serious. You aren’t ready to go back to work.”
“(Y/n), please trust me. This will all be over soon, okay?” He looked at you pleadingly. He didn’t want you to drop it or ignore it, he wanted you to- trust him? There was a secret, but he clearly didn’t want you to know it, and just to wait.
Sighing, you said, “Okay, I’ll wait.” You didn’t know what else to say. You couldn’t make him tell you the truth, and he wanted you to not push it. There was nothing to do. “But I really want you to talk to someone.”
He leaned in to kiss you, and right before he touched your lips, he said “Okay, I will; for you.” Then he closed the distance and kissed you until you needed to come up for air.
Your house was quieter after you both went back to work. When Jun-ho came home from work he would make his way next to you on the couch, lay down, and put his head on your lap. It was nice at first, after so much stress you could simply relax and enjoy each other's company.
Soon after getting home, he would get tired. Sometimes falling asleep on your lap.
After a month of him getting back to work, you were exhausted from the silence. It became oppressive. You grew tired of the same routine, and how your husband never quite grew less paranoid. He became better at hiding it, attaching cameras and extra locks around your house under the guise of burglaries in the building that you had never heard of. He would stand up from his crouch install the locks and wrap his arms around you, kissing you and telling you that he just wanted you to be safe.
Before his accident, he would wake up every morning and make breakfast for the both of you, insisting that it was the most important meal of the day. After the accident, he started to make lunch as well, and whenever you suggested that you go out for dinner, he smiled and told you that he enjoyed your cooking so much more.
Then, after 3 months, he came home completely exhausted. It was later than usual, and you stayed up late to greet him, completely concerned by his lack of response to any of your texts. “Jun-ho, where the hell were you? Are you okay?!” You ran up to him as soon as he opened the door, looking him up and down for any injuries.
“No, I’m fine.” He smiled a lopsided and insincere smile at you. He smelled like alcohol.
“Were you drinking?” You demanded.
“Me and my coworkers went out for a couple of bottles of soju after work, nothing much.” He shook off his shoes and went to hug you.
You pulled away, “why didn’t you tell me? We always tell each other these things.”
“Baby, I had a long, long day, let’s not do this right now.”
“No, we have to do this right now, what happened? You’ve been so strange lately, and you never went to talk to someone like you said you would.” You paused, tears beginning to well up in your eyes, “I’m really concerned for you. I want you to get tested for PTSD.”
He stepped closer to you, “I don’t have PTSD, I just had a long day.” You didn’t move. He sighed, “(Y/n), please, I’m exhausted. Can we do this tomorrow?”
You didn’t say anything but didn’t move when he closed the distance between you to pull you into a tight hug. You finally reciprocated, pulling him closer, when you heard silent sniffling from next to your ear. In a heartbeat, you felt a drop of wetness on your shoulder.
The next day, Jun-ho quit being a detective. After he started crying, he pretended like nothing had happened, got silent, and took a shower before going to bed. You barely spoke another word the rest of the night, but after he thought you went to sleep you could feel him trace circles on your shoulder.
He told you as soon as he got home that being a detective was too much work for him after the accident, and he tired more easily, but you didn’t buy it for a second.
“Jun-ho, you love your job, why would you quit? Do you want to go back on leave?” You pleaded at your husband.
He smiled back at you, “Of course I love my job, it’s only temporary.” And he leaned in to kiss you on the lips.
Temporary. Although your better judgment told you otherwise, you put all your faith in that one little word. Temporary, this, like everything else making your husband act so different, would pass.
Jun-ho came home late the next day. Then the next. The first you waited up for him, sitting at the dinner table, your food growing cold. When your husband came in, he didn’t smell like alcohol, he simply kissed you on the forehead and sat down across from you, not confronting his tardiness. You cried yourself to sleep that night, with your husband laying stiff as a board next to you, unsure of what to do.
The next night, when he was late, you didn’t bother to wake up. You left his food in the fridge and went to bed early, tears streaming down your face. You were still awake when he came into bed but pretended to be asleep. You could feel the bed shaking from his silent sobs.
The next month went on in the same way, with the only escape from the monotony of your miserable silence being Jun-ho’s one day off. On that one day, you would pretend that you didn’t have any problems, that you were a normal couple who would go walking through the cherry trees and go out drinking together late at night. You went on a double date with one of your coworkers and her husband and sat awkwardly through one of their arguments. It wasn’t the same, but having some bit of refuge away from your stress was a lifesaver.
But even that changed. One day, you decided to go kayaking out in the bay, and while you were out in the water, Jun-ho stopped for a minute. There was a gap in your conversation, and during it, your husband stopped paddling.
“Babe, are you alright?”
He looked up at you as if startled. “Yeah, I’m alright.” He paused, “Would it be okay if we went back, I need to do something important.”
“Um, yeah sure. What is it?” You hesitantly asked.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.” Your face sank. Every question you asked your husband ended with him saying ‘It’s nothing,’ no matter how big of a deal it likely was.
A couple of days later, when your husband came home late again, he told you that he would be busy on his day off and that a friend of his needed help on his boat. You just smiled and nodded, because what else could you really do?
Then he was busy the next weekend, and then the next, and the next. You only really saw your husband for a couple of minutes in the morning, and a couple of minutes in the night. Sometimes, you were able to make time. Sometimes, you would go out for a nice dinner, or go out to a friend’s party for the holidays. On your birthday he took the whole day off work and planned every single thing you would do all day. He made breakfast, took you shopping in the morning, went out to a nice lunch, took you out to the countryside to the ocean, and bought you lunch in your favorite tiny spot next to the shore. It was like for just 24 hours you had your husband back.
But other than that, it was like living with a ghost. He got more and more stressed over time. He smiled the same amount, but even with taking a demotion to a regular cop, he was getting worse and worse over time. He felt tenser, and more on edge than he had ever been before.
Every night you would fall asleep crying, you became used to waking up with a wet pillow or having to look at your puffy eyes when you wiped the condensation off the mirror after crying in the shower. Whenever Jun-ho saw the tears, whether you were laying in bed or cooking dinner on one of the rare nights that he came home early would wrap you in a hug from behind, and say, “I’m so sorry honey, I promise this will pass.”
And you would plead, “Please honey, please, just tell me what’s happening, please be here more.”
And he would press his head into your back and whisper, “I can’t, I’m sorry. I love you.”
Your hopes would drop all over again, “I love you too.”
It was three years before anything changed. You would constantly beg him to do anything, to see someone, to talk to you, to do anything. Your friends asked you if he was cheating, but you knew he wasn’t. You knew, somehow that whatever was happening, was big, and important. And that it was eating you and your husband alive.
You didn’t see him for three days. He answered all of your texts with “Just something for work, I’ll be home soon. I love you.” Nothing else. No explanation for anything.
You slept on the couch and stayed there when you were awake, racked with anxiety. When he finally came home you sat there staring straight ahead. He didn’t speak.
You had pictured a fight, a confrontation. You had begged and pleaded, with tears in your eyes before. But nothing had happened. And after almost four years, you didn’t have any energy left.
“I want a divorce.” You surprised yourself with the words.
You looked up at him, and he stood there, his expression unreadable.
“If you can’t tell me what the hell is going on, tomorrow I’m going to a lawyer.”
He stumbled toward you and dropped to his knees in front of you, “(Y/n), please. You just have to trust me. This, this’ll all be over soon. I know I’ve said it before, but this time I mean it, soon it’ll be just like before.”
You looked into your husband’s eyes which were beginning to fill with tears. “I don’t believe you.”
“Baby, please. I can’t tell you, I really can’t.” His head dropped, breaking eye contact as you saw a tear fall down to reach the floor. He whispered, “If- if you know the truth, I don’t know what’ll happen to you. And I can’t risk that. I- I’ve risked everything else. But I can’t risk you.”
You couldn’t cry, your tears were all dried up. You should be shocked by what he was saying, but your mind went back to what you heard him say from outside that hospital room years ago “Hundreds… Shot.”
“I know, I’ve known. I know that you remember, and I know that it’s related to when you went missing. I just need you to trust me. I can’t do this anymore.”
He looks up at you, grabbing your hands and wrapping his around yours. “I know, I’m so sorry, but I need you to just wait a little bit longer-”
You stood up. “I think you should leave.”
“(Y/n), please.”
You walked away from him, towards your bedroom. “(Y/n), I love you.”
“I love you.” And then you heard the door shut.
As you lay in bed, you couldn’t help but feel empty, like your heart had been torn out of your chest. The brutal calm you had been through was over, but storm had just begun.

Carmy took the front entrance to The Bear for a change, smiling at the sign in the window as he unlocked the door.
The Bear will be closed until July 1st due to a family event. We are excited to welcome our guests back to dine with us then. Thank you.
Once inside he locked the door again and dumped his things on the bar, making himself a coffee and returning to his desk for the day.
It had been almost an hour and the only thing on his notebook was her name.
Sydney.
It wasn’t that he didn’t have things to put down, it was how to put the magnitude of his feelings into words that was his struggle. He was so engrossed in the paper in front of him he didn’t hear the back door open, or the footsteps making their way closer. Didn’t notice until a hand tapped the notepad and pulled him from his thoughts.
“You good?” Nat laughed
“Yeah, no, yeah.”
“That a yeah, a no or a yeah?”
Carmy laughed and closed the notepad. “I’m great, just struggling to write my vows.”
“Ahhhh.”
“How did you write yours?”
“We got married in Chapel remember?”
“Oh yeah, no freestyling.”
“No freestyling.” She laughed, and poured herself a glass of water. “We did write each other a letter to read in the morning though. Pete wrote about our first date and everything he wanted us to do in life together”
He couldn’t help but smile at the way her hand stroked at her ring at the memory. “What did you write about?”
“The little moments. They mean more to me than the big ones.”
“I love the little moments too.”
“Then write that.” Nat grabbed her bag and then took a folder from under the bar. “You good?”
“Yeah, where you going?”
Nat smiled at his question. “To meet my soon to be sister in law, we left the vendor shit here a few days ago.” She said tapping the folder in her hand.
Carmy smiled at just the thought of his future bride. “Tell her I love her.”
“She already knows but I will, and... Bear?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t overthink it. Little moments. The important shit.”
“Thanks, Sug’”
Natalie left him alone once more and he opened his phone, swiping through his photos, the last image he took was from that morning, she was in bed, sitting up against the headboard, smiling at him. He put his pen to paper.
Sydney, I used to dread mornings and wish for the next one to never arrive, and then I found you, and now the idea that every morning I get to wake up with my arms around you make me think a life I no longer wanted to live will never be long enough.
He returned to his phone, swiping through photos that included meals, his nieces, and things around Chicago he wanted to draw. It wasn’t long before he came across another photo of Sydney. This one was taken late one evening, she was sitting on the sofa, the sun setting outside the window behind her and she was staring at the TV, her face was set in a soft smile and he had taken the photo because it was easier to do that than confront how overwhelmed he felt in his love for her. The ink started to flow as his feelings spilled out.
Sydney, nights used to be so lonely, nothing could tear me away from the kitchen because finding distractions from my life got me through the days. Now the only distraction is you. You tear me away from everything just by existing and I’ve never been happier. In those quiet evenings when I get to sit with you, I wonder how I survived before you. There will always be a before you, but there will never be an after and I’d go through all of the before a million times again to end up here with you.
He swiped some more, the photo making him laugh, it was a photo of her through the peep hole of the apartment door. The small window making a fish eye lens and she had her face pressed close to the door making it even funnier to him. He was writing once more before he even realized.
Sydney, the first time you walked through a door and into my life something shifted cosmically. Every time you walk into a room I’m in it’s like that day all over again, the world shifts a little, and everything wrong corrects itself.
He brought his phone back out, swiping some more. The photo of him and Sydney at the park, the bright mid day sun shining in the sky. The photo had been taken by Gia. The angle was low, as she pointed the camera up at them. That day they had been on babysitting duties and he’d had a sudden vision of a future date, their own kids joining them.
Sydney, to be your husband and the father of our children will be the greatest accolade I could ever achieve in my life. I will spend every day of my life making sure you know that. The lazy or rushed mornings, the content or chaotic afternoons, the slow and relaxed or the frenetic nights - as long as the rest of mine are spent with you I don’t care what they look like. I am so excited to be your husband, and have you as my wife.
Just as he was about to put his phone away it rang out with an incoming face time call. He swiped, smiling as she appeared in front of him.
“There was an issue with the napkins so we need to pick new ones. What do you think?” She jumped right in, ignoring the pleasantries and she switched the camera, pointing the phone at five napkins. He liked the second one, the simplicity of it. He knew she would like the third one the most, the little ruffle trim was something she would love.
“I like the third one the best.” He lied.
“You do? Me too, okay gotta go, love you!”
“Love you too.”
The call disconnected and he put his phone away, packing up his stuff and heading home, grateful for a life that gave him Sydney.

On the day of their wedding, with his hand in hers, he let her lead them to their sweetheart table. As they passed through the long rows of tables he admired the way the tables were set up, and the ruffled napkins lining the tables.
When they finally got to their own seats he laughed hard and kissed her deep when he spotted their place settings, the simple napkins he secretly liked more sitting beside their plates.
