thinking thoughts™️ again about another fic that’s way too real, and pictured eddie giving steve that understanding smile, saying , “yeah, changing the world gets a little old, doesn’t it, when the cost is your sanity.”

and steve mirrors him with a slight nod, “and when you realise you just wanna live your own life, not change everyone else’s. i feel like people shouldn’t need to take this long to realise that.”

“it’s the system, steve-o.” eddie fishes a cigarette from the pack, offering one to steve, who shakes his head with a polite smile. “people living their lives. what a rebellious thing to ask.”

steve watches him for a second, and it’s like he’s piecing together some kind of picture around him. eddie lets him; somehow he trusts steve not to get it all wrong. “you going to rehab to stick it to the man, hm?”

eddie takes a long drag of his cigarette, his eyes far away as he lets the smoke fall from his lips. “no. ‘m going to rehab because it took me too long to realise that i just wanna live my life. and because i think… because i think i’m actually ready. sounds so dumb, doesn’t it?”

“nah.” and steve sounds like he means it. eddie gets the feeling that he does. steve strikes him as someone who’s too genuine for his own good. maybe that’s his own way to keep changing the world even without that job. “sounds like you actually know what you’re talking about. that’s a good quality, you know? to get better. wanting to get better. for no one but yourself.”

“now you’re the one who sounds like he knows what he’s talking about.”

steve huffs and stuffs his hands into his pocket. “nah, man. i’m just the homeless guy who’s hot for your apartment and wants you out of the house asap so i can start my life. with your cat.”

eddie laughs as he snuffs out the cigarette beneath his boot. the keys dangle in his hand as he holds them out to steve, who looks at him, surprised.

“well, she’s yours, then.”

I literally woke up in the middle of the night like God will dark rise is so fucking screwed. The line that’s like. “Everyone wanted to kill the Dark King.” What’s the part where he looks at Violet helplessly, haunted, almost pleading for mercy? But of course he reveals nothing of substance to anyone. Elizabeth is too young to understand but the reader knows what “Her relationship with that boy was…unnatural” can mean. Tying him to bedposts? Failing to strangle him? What else? Never not even once seeing beyond a mythological identity Will himself didn’t know he had? What did he think was the reason? That he was just intrinsically hateful? Of course he says nothing. Of course Violet can’t trust him- he’s given her nothing as painfully real as what she’s given him. So he gives her the sword hoping at least he can die at the hands of someone he loved, but even that doesn’t work out - she gives the sword to a Visander still furious at SARCEAN. The pattern continues; no one looks at Will, who vomits when he realizes what’s happened to James, Will who is much of a liar and killer and sneak as Elizabeth accuses but nonetheless wants to be different. Even when he doesn’t remember his own past. There’s no way out for him that doesn’t hurt. Hope this obsession passes soon given the one and a half years of waiting required for book 3

I’m so mad I had a whole essay written about your eigong outside of work post but the reblog deleted itself. So I’m gonna try to reconstruct it.

It’s implied that Eigong is the azure sand researcher Yi wanted to get noticed by as a kid.

- What other female radical scientist important to the game is there?? That’s too specific to not be important

- Yi has a book by/about Eigong in the console port trailer

- Eigong was in Xia when the mystic nymph accident happened

This means Eigong was already an established azure sand researcher by the time Yi was born, and the immortality project came AFTER that.

Also, Eigong likes teaching, especially teaching kids

- She was clearly looking to inspire young scientific minds by visiting Yi’s school. Interestingly, she picked Xia of all places, rather than a larger kingdom with more science-oriented families. She seems like she thinks great minds can come from anywhere.

- Yi was a child when the mystic nymph accident happened, in the year 452. He came up with the eternal cauldron project in year 457. There was only a five year gap. If Yi was already an adult at the time, he was probably a mid-teen at the youngest when Eigong took him as a student.

- Eigong is willing to take in young students to sharpen their minds!

Finally, Eigong likes martial arts.

- there’s NO reason for her to learn how to fight. She’s a scientist, why would she need that? It’s possible that she, like Yi, had a Fangshi teacher, but you’d think she would mention that sort of thing in her earlier logs.

- She never even speaks on her fighting abilities or training in her scientific work logs, meaning that was a thing she did outside of work

- She taught Yi how to fight, but again, she didn’t have to do that. She could’ve just shared her scientific knowledge. Why would she teach Yi martial arts?

- Answer: she sees herself in him and wanted to teach him how to fight because she cared about him

In conclusion, Eigong’s hobbies/non-work-related interests are:

- azure sand (I know this is work, but it’s not related to her obsession with immortality, so I don’t count it)

- teaching (also work, but she doesn’t HAVE to teach, Yk?)

- martial arts
