When a daughter turns 18, it’s customary to go to a tattoo artist and get the rose tattoo.

Bela came up with the idea. She wanted a way to always honor her mother and their bloodline, and there was no better way than to get the family crest tattooed on her body.

She wanted it to be in a spot where it can be seen, never to be hidden. It’s on her left shoulder blade, clear to see whenever she is wearing anything sleeveless.

It kind of become a tradition. Three years later, when Cassandra turned 18, she went with Bela to get a matching tattoo, right in the same spot.

Daniela loathes that she has to wait until she is old enough. Her sisters can take her to get the tattoo but both of them are being difficult about it. She doesn’t want to wait, and she believes that it’s unfair that her sisters are ignoring her while they already got theirs.

Hey guys, I would really appreciate it if you stopped sending me messages about Lizzie's appearance. I get that most of you are just happy and/or think it's a compliment, but I've literally never had so many weird comments on a woman's body before, and it's getting really uncomfortable.

While I know I'm not always as good about it for men, as a character artist and as I hope is made clear in the design sheet I did for all the hermit and empire girls, I have always and will always draw all sorts of body types. That includes not just fat people, but fat people with different distributions and shape language- different everything. Lizzie and Cleo and Stress may all be fat and round but I like to think I did a very good job of making them all distinct in shape from each other in a way that converys their character.

I redesigned my Lizzie recently because I was wanting to draw her more, and I wanted her to allign better with my mental idea of her. She hadn't before because 1) I started off drawing her as the ocean queen and mayor who are very unlike her base self and monstrous, because she's cool like that. And 2) I never sat down and made a design sheet for her, so I constantly drew her differently and mixed her up with my Gem design. (which, go firgure, as a fan of sister characters, when I finally worked it out that mental idea ended up having a body type similar to my own little sister. Which makes it extra uncomfortable on a personal level.)

The fact is, when I draw women people casually comment on their body a LOT more, which is already a bit uncomfortable- and baffling, given that most of my sexualized pictures are of men. I get similar comments about how tall Pearl is, I've probably gotten more comments about how tall Pearl is than I have about how tall Jimmy is, and I draw him multiple times a week. But those comments are often at least done with a bit of amusement and not just straight up ogling her.

Every single time I've drawn Lizzie recently, though, I got an absolute flood of comments specifically talking about her body and nothing else. How fat she is, how attractive she is because she's fat, cat calls, and other more unsavoury language. Even backhanded compliments. I certainly didn't try to make her ugly, but I've not drawn her in pinups. She's doing the exact same things as every other character I draw, including herself before my redesign. And given that timing and VERY pointed nature of the comments, it's not exact rocket science.

Most of the comments haven't been too gross, thankfully. I'll chalk that up to a lot of the messages being people projecting onto her, which- that's a whole different can of discomfort worms. But it is constant and it is in place of literally anything else. I draw a whole comic about a funny moment with multiple people, and art I'm pretty happy with, and the only thing a dozen asks have to say is "Lizzie's fat!!🤤" which stands in quite the contrast to all the comparatively few comments about Jimmy being about how I drew his banana costume.

Anyways, what I'm asking is to please just be a bit more normal about women's bodies. I get that it's rarer, and it makes some people happy when they see characters like them, but focusing on how beautiful an unconventional woman is is still objectifying and making that woman's beauty her worth.

Nightmare Critters counterpart discussion.

{So, before I begin, I would like to point something out. I don't normally do speculation like this to a larger scale. However, I would also point this out as well regarding the discussion of these 16 characters:}

{The nightmare critters are not really counterparts. They are just another group like smiling critters. So! With that in mind, this topic is just for fun. So with that out of the way, let's begin under the cut. We'll be going in release order.}

When looking for counterparts for the Nightmare Critters, you have to look at their negative traits and find what clashes with them. Now, I could be wrong about some of these, but this is my take on them.

1. Baba Chops

Baba doesn't exactly like being outside. And while her friends tend to convince her after loads of trying, she seems to dip back into the same recluse we seem to see her as. Because of the fact she prefers her alone time compared to spending time with her friends leads to me believe that her counterpart is none other than the leader of the Smiling Critters: Dogday.

Dogday essentially embodies everything that Baba doesn't like doing. Spending time with his friends, being outside and having fun with others. That's what he loves the most, being there for his friends. On top of that, Baba would be that kind of person who wouldn't like having a leader role and would push it on to someone else if it meant she'd have her space.

One other thing to note, is that Baba's scent is Anise. If you don't know, Anise is a plant that is actually very unhealthy for dogs when consumed too much. However, it is also seen as a dog's catnip, making them more happy and energetic to an alarming degree.

2. Icky Licky

Icky from the looks of his description, is a very gifted individual with actual good merits. However, the problem is his attitude when making competition with others. He seems to be the type to make multiple excuses, pin them on any excuse, and maybe even pin it on other people just to say he didn't lose. As competitive as he is, he's a spoilsport with a knack for making multiple pleading cases because he doesn't want to lose. The person I can see him clashing with on this scale is Hoppy.

You see, Hoppy is energetic and sporty as well. Although the difference between her and Icky is the fact that she wouldn't really take losses that seriously. She loves sports, but she loves sharing those sports with her friends. While they're both competitive, Hoppy would actually take the loss like a champ and swear she'd win next time. And trust me, she means that.

Minor note, but both of them are animals that do a lot of hopping and jumping, if it helps you see what I'm saying.

3. Rabie Baby

Now, Rabie's counterpart doesn't really seem all that obvious. But let's take a look at what she says. She loves secrets, and she loves to blab about them to their friends. Unfortunately it seems that Rabie's big mouth of hers might seem to get her into trouble. She doesn't know boundaries, and seems to constantly push into blabbing about others because she loves to do so. I can think of one person for this, and it's Bobby.

Bobby is like the tight knit, responsible older sister of the group. She knows her friends boundaries and makes sure they're okay mentally when they're feeling down. Everyone goes to and trusts her to keep things quiet, essentially the therapist of the group. Meaning, she does know her fair share of secrets about her friends, but she keeps that kind of thing to herself, because she doesn't want to start anything. And come on, that's rude.

4. Allister Gator

Allister is definitely what you would call a lazybones by heart. He doesn't risk wanting to try anything if it means it won't bring him anything good about it. Essentially, if it doesn't benefit him, he won't do it, because he's waiting for the right thing to come by and be good for him. He's essentially a slouch that doesn't really want to put any effort, because he thinks he's good as he is. Which is a stark contrast to Kickin.

Kickin, believe it or not, is a coward who is afraid to try new things. However, this also makes him a little bit lazy too as a result. Because of this persona he has when wanting to be seen as the cool one, he's going to push through it and do anything to be seen as cool among his peers. He may not be the most courageous, but he puts in an effort to try to be, because good things will happen if you put in enough effort. And he makes an effort to try and stand out, unlike Allister here.

5. Simon Smokes

Simon is definitely one of those people that wants to be seen, but the thing is, there's something deeper going on here. You see, the way he carries himself and the fact he seems to want attention, to pay close eyes to his accomplishments makes him a bit.. desperate. Keep in mind, dragons aside from breathing fire, are known for hoarding treasure. Because of this, you could say his pendant embodies his greed for attention and gratification, which is quite opposite of Crafty.

You're all gonna kill me for this, but I'm saying it anyway. And no, it has nothing to do with them being the two mythical creatures of the group. It's moreso how they carry themselves about their talents. Compared to Simon, Crafty is more closed off about the things she likes to do. Although she wants friends, she doesn't know how to make them either, but doesn't want to bother people either, making her a bit of recluse. But the thing is, she's good at what she does, but doesn't outright gloat about it either. She'd only talk about it if you asked, being more humble and modest, probably saying it's not that good. Unlike Simon, who thinks he's on top of it all.

6. Poe

Poe definitely isn't having a phase. Jokes aside, they seem to be quite unlikable towards daylight, and seem to prefer being at night. In a sense, you could see Poe as a bit of a night owl, with the irony that they're not an owl. By the sounds of it, Poe would be the one out of the Nightmare Critters with a nocturnal schedule, wanting to be awake at night, and asleep during the day, but let's be real. If Baba's persistent friends are anything to be taken out of context, they don't let Poe do this. Which is funny, because I don't think Catnap would either. .

If you haven't forgotten, Catnap's whole deal is sleeping at appropriate times. He makes sure everyone is well rested before they have a good day of playing and having fun, which is the balance he shares with Dogday. He wouldn't like it if they were suddenly awake at night like this, especially if they have no reason to. Catnap's love for sleeping at night is both a duty and a passion, even if he's still a cat. Which you know, he takes naps during the day. Poe would probably hate this guy due to his insistence on sleeping at appropriate times.

7. Touille

Touille, despite appearing to be a glutton, is honestly more of an oddball with disgusting tastes. It's been said that seems to talk everyone's ears off when it comes to talking about his favorite thing: trash. He likes eating it, but I imagine he also likes to collect it as much as he loves talking about it. Although he's not smart in a traditional book smart sense, he seems to make up for that fact in street smarts. The difference in that scope of knowledge would contrast beautifully with Bubba.

Now you see, Bubba is what you'd call a textbook smart individual. Research? History? Document, he's your elephants and seems to know quite a lot on that side. The problem is, like Touille, he seems to talk a bit too much whether you like it or not. But unlike Touille, he doesn't really know how to apply that knowledge in a street setting. He'd prefer being in a library compared to the dump. But unlike Bubba, Touille would probably eat a book instead of read it, if it looked unsalvageable enough.

Another minor note, but Elephants don't really like rodents. If you remember they're too small for them to see, which kinda helped me make a connection.

8. Maggie Mako

Maggie usually has one thing on her mind: food. And not the good kind of food, if we're talking from a health perspective. She seems to be insanely selective about what she eats, and prefers a LOT of junk food, and is unapologetically rude about it. It's safe to say that I don't think she plans on shaping up anytime soon. Although, this would definitely irk the likes of Picky.

Picky is the other side of the caring duo that makes her and Bobby. She's been known to make sure her friends aren't selective of their food, and is actually quite healthy herself. She and Bobby care about that immensely, with Bobby caring about your mental health, and Picky caring about your physical health from a food standpoint. And who could blame her? Watching the things you eat determines how fit you'll be. I don't think she'd appreciate Maggie tossing away the veggies, or other healthy foods she gives her.

Hunter is NOT Luz’s brother, he’s not a Noceda, he’s not even that important to her compared to many other relationships Luz has and vice-versa. Like genuinely, go rewatch the show with this consideration in mind, cleanse the fanon for a fresh slate.

People just latched onto them as siblings because they found their Hunting Palismen dynamic funny, but also because they wanted to ward off Lunter. And they couldn’t articulate their dislike for Lunter as stemming from Luz’s longstanding dynamic with another female character being immediately replaced by fans for some white boy who just showed up, so they said they’re actually more siblings. It wasn’t an issue of biphobia it’s just people being tired of fandom thinking everything would be better if a woman was replaced by a guy. It’s the same reason Huntric also sucks because people replace a female character with some dude, it has nothing to do with bi/homophobia.

And FTR I hate Lunter, for the same reason I now hate the Luz & Hunter as Siblings take; It’s the fandom’s obsession with making Hunter more important than he actually is, to the point of replacing Luz’s actual important relationships with him. And hell even replacing Luz herself in her dynamics with her loved ones, because people portray Hunter as more Camila’s child than Luz when Darius is right there.

This fandom has a massive White Favoritism problem with Hunter, and he’s not even a female character he’s another White Boy, the most bland and milquetoast choice to raise as the fandom darling. He’s not THAT interesting and while him and Luz have their parallels and shared trauma and are still friends, what about Hunter and Gus? Or Luz and King, the latter explicitly calls Luz his sister but Hunter sure as hell didn’t! What about explicit on-screen dynamics huh???

ISTFG this fandom is overrun by Hunter content everywhere, he drowns out everyone except the literal main character and even she struggles sometimes! It’s because he’s a White Boy, that’s it. It’s not illegal to like Hunter, but you need to actually appreciate and engage with other characters accordingly instead of acting like that’s illegal. Hunter does the bare minimum and is lauded meanwhile everyone else goes above and beyond and is still overlooked for him.

Stop inserting him into everything we do not need Luz and Hunter angst we can just settle for Luz angst. She has other relationships and priorities you know and there’s so much more to this show than Hunter suffering. Sometimes you’ll even take Luz’s canon angst and give it to Hunter even! And try to make him more of a main character by inserting him into everything but he’s a side character.

So yes, your AU where Hunter is the main protagonist is racist. Especially if it doesn’t even explore Darius as his mentor, and has Eda take his place despite her barely interacting with him. And constantly praising Hunter for being a weird passionate nerd gets aggravating when Luz does the exact same thing but with greater emphasis, but gets ignored in favor of Hunter as she’s relegated to just Lumity.

And all of her additional depth and angst is just ignored for Hunter’s instead, sometimes they’ll even make up angst for him when other characters actually have it; I’ve seen popular fanart of a Luz moment where Hunter is in her place. Because fandom will sooner micro-analyze Hunter’s hands for nothing, than Luz going on a suicidal rant.

They’ll cradle Hunter’s trauma and suffering in their hands as a sacred and delicate subject, gnash at Darius for not being nice; But then sweep over Luz’s trauma and not realize how much certain things affected her, and why it’s fucked up to just ignore that in favor of bad AUs where Luz is a friend to Belos, who prompted a lot of her suicidal depression and scarred her face too.

They’ll insist Hunter should’ve been a bigger part of the finale and that Luz’s nightmare should’ve been her guilt for hurting him, as if it wasn’t already about Flapjack’s death and just her guilt towards ALL of her friends. So you know what, in addition to Hunter not even needing to kill Belos, I’m glad he wasn’t in that final battle and that the show reminded fandom who the actual main characters are (Luz, Eda, and King), which obviously pissed off a lotta people. Because it’s not like Hunter didn’t have major focus in the last two specials and S2B!!!!!!

Her hands shook as she stared at the letter her parents had sent her. It had been the fifth one this month, not that she was counting. And they were all the same: vile insults of her knowledge and constant reminders that her brother was a better student than she would ever be. 

She laughed when they had said it the first time, telling them that “comparing anyone to Regulus, and he’s a better student.” Her mother had smacked her for that. 

This letter had been the worst of them. Her parents knew how to get a rise out of her, stating that if she did not better herself, she’d be pulled from Hogwarts before she could graduate. And even worse, if she was pulled, they would marry her off to Amycus Carrow, the insufferable twat. 

Her head of house had pulled her aside weeks ago, telling her that she was doing poorly in her classes, stating that he knew of multiple tutors who could help her fix them. She ignored his offer; after all, if she had wanted help, she would have asked Remus. 

It was late; curfew had passed hours ago, but she still stumbled through the halls, hyperventilating. She’d told herself she needed fresh air, but that hadn’t helped. Then she thought a walk would help; also useless. Now, she was just choking on her tears in the hall, hoping Filch didn’t find her. She was used to it, the constant belittling by her own mother and father. Even her cousins contributed. At first, it hadn’t bothered her; if her family had nothing better to do than insult her, they should feel free. 

Eventually, their insults warped her mind. She became a shell of her former self, no longer cracking jokes or teasing her brothers and friends. She sat in the corner of the library, reading the pages of her textbooks over and over until her mind felt numb. Sirius had tried to cheer her up constantly, one of his attempts resulting in a detention. 

A breeze pulled her down the dark corridor, the night sky visible at the end. Maybe sitting by the Black Lake or lying on the grassy hill would help her calm down. She sniffled, pulling her robe closer to herself. The Quidditch pitch was empty; she was sure of it. The grass there was well-kept, thanks to the gamekeeper. She pushed past the cloth, the great field standing before her. 

She ran to the middle, falling to the ground in a completely undignified manner. If her mother were here, she’d scold her. “That is no way for a lady to sit.” She could hear her, even hundreds of miles away. 

She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to stop the voices that attacked her. Her heart pumped harder, beating against her chest. She gasped, rubbing her hand in circular motions, grounding herself. “You are no daughter of mine.” That is what her mother had said in the letter, the last thing she said before she signed off with her perfect penmanship. “You are no daughter of mine.” 

Y/N laughed. She didn’t want to be her daughter anyway. Sadly, she did not have a choice in that matter; Walburga had pushed her out 17 years ago, and here she was. Sobbing violently in the middle of the night on the grass.

She couldn’t get her grades up, no matter how hard she tried; she couldn’t be the perfect daughter, and she couldn’t be normal. A normal person, she told herself, wouldn’t be sobbing over her horrible grades. “You are no normal person, Y/N.” Her father would say. “You are a Black.”  

She brought her hands to her face, shaking her head. She murmured to herself, hiccuping every so often. A hand touched her shoulder, and she jumped, ripping her hands from her face. “Y/N?”

James. 

He smiled lightly. “Are you alright, love?” 

She sat up, wiping away the tears that still flowed. “I’m fine, Jamie. Don’t worry about it.” She stood, smiling. “Have fun.” 

He stood in front of her, blocking her escape. “I wouldn’t say you’re fine. You’re crying.” 

She scoffed. “Well, I didn’t ask for your opinion.” She stepped around him, speaking over her shoulder. “Drop it.” 

His hand wrapped around her wrist, holding her in place. “Indulge me.” He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb. “Sometimes I forget to breathe, and I do these exercises to help regulate myself.” He smiled. “Can you do it with me? It would really help me if you played along.” 

She knew he was tricking her, but she didn’t really care. “Sure, James.” 

He nodded. “Just breathe in for five, hold for two, exhale for five.” He smirked, nudging her shoulder. “Works wonders.” 

She tried not to roll her eyes, following along. God, she hated it when he was right. He often was, too; that was the horrible thing. James tried to play the dumb jock stereotype, but he was brilliant in Transfiguration, DADA, and Potions. It irked her to no end that James was not only a great quidditch player but an amazing student, friend, and person. 

They sat in silence for a moment before he spoke again. “Do you want to tell me what had you so worked up?” She shook her head. He sighed, holding her hands in his. “Can I guess then?” 

“Be my guest, Potter.” 

“Dear old mum and dad.” He raised his eyebrow, smiling lightly. “Am I right?” 

“Once again.” She nodded. “You know how they are.” 

He nodded back. “I do. But I’ve never seen you this upset over something they’ve done.” He whispered softly. “You don’t have to tell me, but you need to know I hate seeing you like this.” 

“Am I that hideous when I cry?” She laughed. “I’ll try to refrain from violently sobbing next time.” 

“Don’t do that.” He rubbed her cheek, smiling when a blush formed. “You’ve never been hideous a day in your life, Y/N. And you never will be.” 

She scoffed. “You flatter me too much, James.” 

“I only tell the truth.” Their hands swayed in between them. 

“They told me they were going to pull me out of school because my grades were so poor.” She murmured. “Don’t they know I’m trying?” 

“Your parents are unforgiving and cold. They disowned Sirius, for Merlin’s sake.” He pulled her closer, leaning down. “You know they have no logical thoughts.” 

“I know.” 

“I know you’re trying,” James smirked. “And honestly, that’s all that matters.” 

“How could I forget?” Y/N laughed. “The great James Potter, in all his infinite wisdom, strikes again.” 

“Is there…” He sighed. “Is there anything else?” 

“If they pull me out, they’ve already promised Amycus Carrow that we will be married.” She squeezed her eyes shut. “My worst nightmare come to life.” 

James gasped, visibly disgusted. “Merlin, I knew your mother was a horrible person, but to promise you to him-” He shivered. “She really has no love in her heart.” 

“She does.” Y/N corrected. “It’s reserved for Regulus.” 

“Ah.” He sighed. “You know you’re a good student, right?” 

She glared, trying to pull her hands out of her grip. “Don’t be mean.” 

“I’m not, I swear. You are an amazing student. Remember when you helped me with DADA? Last week? I would have completely failed if it wasn’t for you.” 

“Nonsense.” She blushed. “You would have been fine. DADA’s your best subject.” 

He laughed. “Maybe. But because of you, we’ll never know.” He giggled, wiggling his eyebrows. “You’re my hero, Y/N Black.” 

She shoved him away, rolling her eyes affectionately. “Shut it, you.” 

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, walking them out of the Quidditch Pitch. “I could use a hot cocoa. What about you?” 

“Cider sounds better.” 

He rolled his eyes. “Fine. Cider it is.” 

The kitchens were luckily not far from the pitch, and with one tickle of the pear, the door opened, not a single house elf in sight. Y/N settled into one of the two large leather seats, staring into the fire. “It’s my fault they don’t love me.” 

“What?” James scoffed, kneeling in front of her. “Why would you say that?” 

“I should have been a better daughter. If I had spent less time-” 

“Living? Y/N, listen to me. You are doing your best. And if they can’t see that, then that’s their problem. You, Sirius, and Regulus are better off without them.” 

“Sirius and Regulus, maybe.” She mumbled. “I don’t deserve it.” 

“It?” 

“Happiness.” 

James shook his head. “Never say that again. If you can’t do it for yourself, then do it for me. You- You deserve everything.” He brought his hands up to her cheeks. “Everything.”

She blushed. “James-” 

“Say it.” He looked at her rather dangerously; her stomach flipped. “Say you deserve everything.” 

“I don’t-” A hand tickled her side, and she gasped. “James!” 

He grinned, tickling her incessantly. “Say it, and I’ll stop!” 

“I- I deserve- I deserve everything!” She cackled, panting from the sudden attack. “I deserve everything.” 

He nodded, looking much too pleased with himself. “Good.” He stood up, grabbing her mug. “My lady.” 

She scoffed. “The least you could do after your violent attack.” 

“Please.” He smirked. “You know you love me.” 

“How exactly did you know I was on the Quidditch Pitch, hm?” She raised her eyebrow. “Were you following me on your little map?” 

He blushed, taking a sip of his cider. She smiled to herself. “That’s what I thought.”

Aita for telling my mom not to invite grandma to my dead dad’s birthday dinner?

For context, my (19M) dad (44M) died in January of ‘24. He was a dick and I don’t miss him, but he was my mom (46F)’s husband and I’ve been there for her through the grieving process. Unfortunately, Mom’s mother (80F) has taken over my mom’s grief and has made it about her.

For what I mean, it’s that Grandma wouldn’t let my mom stand next to my dad as he was dying in the hospital bed from jaundice and cancer, was praying very loudly that her son-in-law would get better and putting her hands all over my dad’s chest, kept comparing what my dad was going through to how her 7th husband died back in ‘09 (also cancer but not the same), and overall was just obnoxious during the worst moment of my Mom’s life.

This isn’t a new thing for grandma to do. Grandma is just a dick. She’s openly racist against Asian people, she’s stupidly Homophobic (but not towards me because I’m family and I’m ber favoritr grandkid because I’m not afraid to talk smack about people who get on my nerves. barf.), and any achievement that my Mom receives, Grandma has a story about how she won something even better.

It has gotten worse when my Mom’s dad (85M) moved in with us for health reasons. Grandpa was Grandma’s 3rd husband and their marriage didn’t end amicably. Still, it’s been 40 years and Mom wants a relationship with her dad. Grandma HATES him. Constantly yelling at him for forgetting things when she comes over, brags about being there for us grandkids (I have two younger sisters) when we were little, and overall is just plain rude. My dad used to be able to just tell her to leave, but now that he’s gone, he can’t.

Well, last week would have been my dad’s 45th birthday. Mom wanted to celebrate by taking me and my youngest sister (the older sister just moved out for college and is across the country) to Dad’s favorite restaurant. As we were leaving, Mom was stressing very heavily about not inviting Grandma or Grandpa. She stressed about Grandpa because he often forgets to eat dinner and she stressed about Grandma because the old bitch has flamed my mom on Facebook for not being invited to events before, even though my mom knew that Grandma wouldn’t like those events (think late night soccer games, plays where I’m not a main role/has an 18+ theme, etc. stuff an old Christian woman who hates driving at night would hate)

I told Mom not to invite either grandparent and that the three of us (me, Mom, and little sister) should just go alone and enjoy some immediate family time. We did and we had a great time, talking with my little sister about her high school classes, talking shit about my mom’s coworkers, and me getting to infodump about Fallout because my mom just watched the tv show.

Towards the end of the night, my Mom gets a text from Grandma asking what we were up to for Dad’s birthday. I tell Mom not to answer and she doesn’t. Grandma then sends Mom a screenshot of the family Life360 map and starts sending walls off texts saying how hurt she is that she wasn’t invited, how neglected she is, how awful it is that she can’t spend time with the grandkids anymore, how Mom always prioritizes Grandpa over Grandma (he wasn’t even with us?) and shit like that. I take Mom’s phone and block Grandma for her since she’s sitting next to me, frozen and locked-up.

It’s been a week now and we haven’t spoken to Grandma. That’s fine by me, but I can see that my Mom is upset and regrets how the dinner went.

Here’s where I may be the asshole:

I was the one who said not to invite Grandma

I was the one who blocked Grandma

I butted my head into my Mom and Grandma’s relationship

Here’s why I think I’m not:

My mom has never been good at standing up for herself

My mom shouldn’t have to deal with this bullshit while grieving her fucking husband of 22 years

Not everything is about Grandma. She inserts herself into everything needlessly

HAAHAHAH! OF COURSE! I don't have anymore headcanons but i wanna ramble about the Squid Sisters.

I think some of the many reasons why i tend to ramble about the Squid Sisters a lot and why i love them so much is because their dynamic is so unique compared to the other idol groups and they have gone through character arcs and change. Callie is not the same person she was in Splatoon 1 and so is Marie and i think that's really beautiful. The two of them are basically inseparable and understand each others boundaries by the time Splatoon 3 rolls around, which is so vastly different from how they act towards in each other in Splatoon 1 where they take their jokes too personally against each other.

They basically fall apart when they are separated. Marie becomes depressed and isolates herself, she worries constantly and looks so incredibly anxious and upset.

And when Callie is alone she becomes a lot more emotional, impulsive, irrational, angry, overthinking, she runs away because she can't handle her busy and lonely life anymore. She joins the Octarians because it's better in her mind to join them than rather stay in a life where you're constantly harassed by paparazzi and work day in and day out. She puts on these shades that make her feel calm and relaxed, that make her feel like she's on cloud nine, they are not some "evil brainwashing shades that make people wanna serve the Octarians" they are just hypnotic shades that help Callie deal with her emotions in a very unhealthy way. I like to see it as an allegory for drug abuse and the pressures of fame, and the story makes way more sense if you put it into that context.

In Splatoon 2 you aren't saving her from " being kidnapped and evil brainwashing shades ooo" you are saving her from the darkness and illness that has built up in her head. The pain and loneliness she has felt for so long, clouding her mind. Marie comes in and reaches out to Callie, to rekindle their relationship and make up for all the mean things she said during Splatoon 1. Callie only reunites with Marie because she remembers all the good memories she had with Marie, and that Marie does care for her and wants to reunite. She feels energized and says to herself "I remember..." Not from some "song that frees people from brainwashing" that's bullshit lmao. Callie didn't suffer from memory loss under the shades. It's from all the good memories flooding back into her head from that catchy heavenly melody.

When you see the story of Splatoon 2 as a story about two cousins who's relationship has been broken apart and one of them wants to fix it, despite the other wanting nothing to do with them and giving into the darkness in their head, it makes it so much better. Fresh Start as a song literally doesn't make sense if you take the common and false narrative of "Callie was kidnapped, overpowered and then brainwashed into being a slave for the Octarians and branded with a tattoo." Fresh Start works a thousand times better and actually makes sense when you take into the deeper context and themes at work. Callie is literally called a "lovable rebel" in the official relationship chart for a reason and is seen in art multiple times where she has the shades with her. Would the developers and writers who made her suffer from getting kidnapped and being "brainwashed" pose her like this? I think not. Maybe that common notion is wrong... hmm...

Callie kept putting on the shades because she's most likely addicted to them, it helps her deal with her pain in an unhealthy way. And it's only when Marie and Callie change their schedules and cut back on the acting gig Callie has become trapped in, is when real change happens and the two of them can finally heal together and be better.

I think that's why i tend to ramble on and on about the same stuff relating to Splatoon 2, because i want to make sure that these characters i love are shown respect and people take the right information from the story.

I really do love these two girls. In fact i fucking HATE seeing r34 of them, it grosses me out. I see these two in a comforting lens and any sort of r34 art or misinterpretation of events genuinely makes me mad and gives me chest pain.

I see Marie in a sort of "she's literally me" way and it makes me happy knowing that a character is out there that shares a lot of similarities with me. And Callie... It's weird, i used to not think much of her until last year. Something just sort of snapped and i found myself to become REALLY fixated on her. It's just something about her that i really really love and i can't put into words...

Also their music is pretty damn good too ngl. I know people tend to make fun of Splatoon's music and call it "piss gargling" but... make them listen to all of the versions of Calamari Inkantation, Tidal Rush, Ink me Up, etc, and see how they feel afterwards lmao.

Anyways, i love these two girls and i will be their biggest defenders UNTIL I DIE!

Half Off Chocolate

Prompt: They fight over discounted Valentine's Day chocolate while arguing over who had it worse.

Katara didn’t know why she didn’t just go home.

Her makeup was smeared from crying, dress wrinkled, and hair slipping out of its neat bun. She was a messed and felt even worse inside. Maybe that is why she stopped at the nearest convenient store for some well deserved and frankly overdue, sweets.

The store was a ghost town. Scattered pink and red merchandise laid abandoned on the floor and nearly empty shelves. Of course. Though it was still Valentine’s Day, the hour was late and most of the good stuff was long gone.

Katara wandered to the candy section, feeling like a lost spirit herself; haunting the remains of a once beautiful dwelling now succumbed to ruin. The candy ail was picked clean, as expected. Even the less popular treats were gone. Nothing left except a lone heart shaped red box. An ugly orange sticker slapped hastily on read the box was 50% off due to damage.

‘How fitting. A damaged heart for a damaged heart.’ Katara thought to herself.

A bitter half smile grew on her face as she reached out to pick it up. She did not notice the other hand reaching at the same time until they both grabbed the box. Katara gasped, more out of annoyance than surprise.

The person was a Fire Nation man about her age. He wore a fancy suit with the neck tie partly undone and had long black hair that spilled onto his face. Bits of red peaked under the hair on his left side, probably from a rash or blemish he was trying to hide. Despite this, he was admittedly attractive in his own way.

Katara glared. He must have forgotten what day it was, hastily threw on the fancy outfit and rushed to the store to buy sweets for his disappointed partner. Well too bad! Katara needed it more!

“Excuse you.” Katara said coldly. “I had that first.”

“What? No I did.”

“You’re wrong.” Katara yanked it, but the man held firm. “Let go!”

“I had it first! You let go!”

“No you!”

They yelled and tugged on the chocolate box like a couple of kids fighting on the playground.

“Do you have any idea what I’ve been through?!” Katara spat. “I’ve earned that chocolate!”

“Earned?! I need it more!!!”

“It’s not my fault you forgot Valentines’ Day and had to last minute shopping!”

“I didn’t forget! My girlfriend dumped me today of all days!”

“Oh boohoo! My long term boyfriend proposed today-“

“Well congratulations!” His voice dripped in sarcasm.

“After I caught him cheating, you prick!” Katara snapped. “He didn’t even apologize! Just pulled out a ring and thought that would fix everything!”

“You think that’s bad?! My ex dumped me by bringing the guy she was cheating on me with for the past 2 years!”

“My ex brought his fangirls to the proposal! The very ones who treated me like a maid and constantly threatened me just because I was dating him!”

“My ex threw a glass bottle at my head just for dating another girl while we were on break!”

“My ex threw a lit candle at me because I didn’t want to kiss him right then!”

“My ex did kiss me just to shut me up from talking about confused emotions!”

“My ex purposefully kept me away from my family and constantly belittled my culture!”

“My ex insulted me just for having different opinions from her!”  

“My ex compared my grief of my mom’s murder to losing his pet! Then scolded me for giving a witness report against the murder in trail!!!”

“My ex told my sister where I was knowing she’ll tell my abusive father!!!”

The box ripped in half, sending them flying back and pelting them with chocolate. The two stared at each other in stunned silence before the owner came storming up and kicked them out. The slammed door echoed across the bare parking lot as the two continued to stand there awkwardly.

“Did she really do those things?” Katara asked in a hushed tone.

“Yeah.” The man rasped. There was no hiding the sadness in his voice. “Yours’s?”

Katara nodded. “Yeah…”

“Sounds like a really crappy person.”

“Yours’s too.”

There was another brief silence before he spoke again.

“We’re better off without them.”

“Are we?” Katara asked. “We were just fighting over discounted chocolate 5 minutes ago.”

“Okay, maybe not tonight specifically… But in the long run, we’re better off.”

Katara rubbed her necklace as tears formed. She wanted to agree but a large part of her life was tied to that relationship. Tied to him. Katara shook her head. The stranger was right.

“We are better off.”

“Sorry about…” He gestured to the store behind them. ”That.”

“I’m sorry too.” Katara undid her messy bun, letting her hair fall free, then extended her hand. “I’m Katara.”

He accepted with a firm grip. “Zuko.”

Everyone reduces her to a not like other girls and annoying and privelidged but personally from the clips I've seen she does makes valid points (maybe awkwardly so and a little condescending but I just can't help but roll my eyes at the people who hate her because it always seems to come from such shallow...choice feminist lense) i have plans to watch it (mostly BECAUSE of the Eloise clips ive seen ngl) but I wanted to see your opinion on her as it seems you have a different take on her compared to what I've seen.

eloise is my favourite character she says exactly what im thinking and she's right about everything. the "marriage mart" IS demeaning. the rules and norms of polite society ARE ridiculous. she IS being restricted and oppressed because of her sex - principally she is denied education when ALL her brothers are college educated

maybe i relate more than most because i also know what it's like to have a mother who is constantly on your ass about finding a man and getting married and how it's the highest form of happiness a woman can achieve

but eloise's feminism is put there for you to mock and roll your eyes at. the script wants you to see her as annoying judgmental and hypocritical. they frame her against daphne: isn't daphne so admirable for being so pragmatic? she doesn't complain like eloise, she plays the game even though she knows it's not fair. why can't eloise shut up and appreciate she's not the only one suffering? why can't she be happy for her sister's success with romance?

they frame her against theo: how dare eloise be concerned with her own experiences oppression and not prioritize the plight of the poor? she doesn't know anything about real suffering, she just victimizes herself because she's bored and narcissistic. if she REALLY had any conviction in her beliefs she would burn her life down to make a point.

they frame her against penelope: how insensitive and bullish she is for forcing her friend to agree with her radical politics (even though penelope never says shit to eloise that implies she doesn't agree). see how penelope can be smart and entrepreneurial AND appreciate romance? why can't eloise do the same? she's just bitter and lazy when compared to the TRUE feminist: a woman who can walk both worlds. see how feminism doesn't have to come with an annoying antisocial distain for romance? see how eloise is complaining about nothing actually and everything is fine for women because she could just shut up and make money by writing?

eloise is, consciously or unconsciously, a message to young outspoken women to shut up and assimilate and be happy for patriarchal conforming women. it's just a phase, it's silly, you'll grow out of it and find a man

she also reinforces the perspectives of women who want to disagree with her: the penelopes and daphnes and violets of real life. women who want to make decisions about romance and femininity while feeling superior and not like a vapid antifeminist. they've secretly known all this time they're more practical and intelligent and happier than those miserable radicals, and now they can happily hate eloise in the open

most importantly she's there to sell the lie of the bridgerton fantasy. the bridgerton setting is unromantic and uncomfortable for exactly the reasons eloise proports, for women to be able to enjoy the show they need to be able to banish the eloise in the back of their thoughts and the easiest way to do that is to set up a character to embody those ideas and discredit her. oh you've noticed how this premise is suffocating and nightmarish? good now that we've acknowledged that let's move on with the steamy romance

the writers said how do we frame perfectly reasonable normal feminist ideas so that women feel comfortable disagreeing. eloise is a feminist but her character is antifeminist

Satoru Gojo/Suguru Geto x Reader with a Twin

I'm back with everything in JJK and I have a twin myself, plus I rarely see this kind of stage, so, I'm going to make my own material, like in the old days.

Genre: Headcanons

Warnings: Set mainly in the Hidden Inventory arc, Season 2 spoilers, maybe divergent canon? (mainly Geto's part), Gojo. Fluff.

Satoru Gojo

If Gojo's S/o had a Twin, there are two ways he would meet her/him.

1-she/he also go to the Jujustu academy and are in the same class (most likely) or 2-their s/o's twin goes to another school and therefore they do not know each other until said twin are going to visit them.

Let's go with the first option first.

Seeing how his S/O is with his/her twin, at first he made fun of them a little, simply because it was too sweet for him how they got along so well.

If said S/o is constantly protected by his/her twin, it is even worse, but Gojo understand it better, and find some peace of mind in seeing that his (future) S/o will always have someone to defend and protect her/him and keep safe and sound.

Gojo wouldn't have so many problems differentiating his s/o from his/her twin, thanks to the 6 eyes. But when he don't use them, he definitely have his confusions.

He has even put papers on the backs of his S/o and his/her twin that say "prettiest twin" and on the twin "random twin"

If he have a bad relationship with his s/o's twin, he would do the same, but putting "good twin" and "evil twin" respectively.

Although you would also do that if his S/o's personality is very far from her/his Twin.

In case Gojo wouldn't meet his S/o's Twin until they dated, he would definitely be very surprised when he met him/her.

If his S/o has any kind of complex related to comparing himself/herself to his brother/her sister, either saying that they are better or putting themselves down, Gojo is going to shut them up, he can't stand that shit, and will probably start saying all the things in the that his S/o is better than her/his twin.

If Gojo and his s/o's twin get along REALLY badly, chances are they'll just put up with each other for the s/o's happiness, Gojo can't compete with a womb mate and he KNOWS IT, so he will not initiate anything against the twin (besides, even if the S/o is protected by his/her twin, he/she is just as protective over him/her).

If they get along well, they tell each other things to make their partner happy, anecdotes from childhood, certain habits that they only do at home, etc. If the twin is especially chaotic, Gojo just got a new friend, and if he is an introvert, too! Adopted a new friend xd.

In general, Gojo only takes advantage of the Twin/Twin factor for pranks and/or having an extra best friend to protect his S/o

Suguru Geto

Following the same thread as Gojo, Geto would probably meet both his S/o and his twin.

While he has a clear preference for spending time with his S/o, he sees nothing wrong with inviting his/her twin too, especially when he sees how they go everywhere together, how close they are, it's a unique type of bond that is worth to watch.

Similarly to Gojo, Geto feels more comfortable with his S/o's twin if he/she is the "protective twin" of the two, or if he/she excels more in the use of cursed energy than his s/o. It's not because he wants his S/o to be weak! Simply an extra companion with another being of abilities never hurts.

And neither does he reject the twin if it is his S/o who has to protect them, on the contrary, he may become protective of him/her, since although they are two very different people, his/her twin S/o is still a part of him/her

Unlike Gojo, Geto has more trouble telling the twins apart at first, especially with the uniforms on (matching), so at first he kept mixing names.

But eventually he was able to differentiate them better through certain characteristics that stood out more in each one (e.g., accessories, hair, way of speaking, etc.)

If his S/o and her/his twin wear completely different styles, then Geto has much less difficulty figuring out which is which (e.g., one wears red and one wears blue).

I don't think he would do the notepad thing, although if he did he would definitely call his s/o "the best twin" or "cutest twin" just to make him/her blush.

If the S/o has a complex about comparing himself/herself to his brother/her sister or saying that he/she is better, Geto will try to first see why they think that way or who put that idea in their head. Then he will try to make him/her see that his/her twin may be better at several things but that he/she may be better than him/her at many others, a pretty nice moment.

If Geto has a bad relationship with his S/O's twin, then they make a "cold war" pact, that is, they hate each other in silence, and without violence in front of their brother/sister to give the illusion of that get along well. But as soon as the s/o looks away, they are both giving each other DEATH looks.

If he gets along with his S/o's twin, then it's all peace and love when they go to his/her house, even (similar to Gojo) telling all the embarrassing stories about his brother/her sister to Geto as if It was the most adorable thing in the world.

Twin: and then she/he went to mom angry and said: "I'm leaving the house"! The most CUTE thing I have ever seen in my life.

S/o: BROTHER/SISTER NOOOOOOOOO-

BONUSES

If his S/o joins him in his corruption Arc, he will definitely let s/o raise the twins the way the S/o and his twin were raised, he wants the girls to have a relationship as cute as the one of those two.

If Geto is not corrupted (like those Geto Professor AUs), the twins will most likely LOVE S/o and his/her twin, each one goes with one and they spend a "twin afternoon" with the four of them together, mainly shopping, they come home, they fall asleep on the nearest couch or surface and when Geto arrives, he dies of tenderness.

In general, Geto can see his S/o's twin as both a great friend or his worst enemy. I hope it's the first.

Things I love ❤ or I hate 💔 in Powerpuff girls fanfics

Important, this is completely written with my personal preferences and individual taste, is not meant to attack anyone so remember: If you love what I hate is ok and if you hate what I love is ok too. Let's respect each other's individual preferences in fanfics and characters 🫂, also I admit some things that I might dislike are justified to happen depending of the gender of the story whether is dark, or just a bit serious but with comedy, slice of life... Or if the author simply wants to change some aspects of the characters and be creative, no one is obligated to indulge my preferences. (By the way this things could be something I have read so many times in lots of fanfics or it could be something I only read once, either way they're going to the list) :

Bubbles reaching a point she snaps and becomes hardcore and maybe a bit sadist. Love it, the trope of being the cutest🥰 character until you get crossed 🤬 is one of my favorites, all cuteness has its dark side😈. I love part of Bubbles point in fight is being dismissed by villains only to make them strongly regret it later.

Professor Utonium being an overprotective dad and intimidating to the RRB. Hate it, more like hating it is more like if you exaggerate with his overprotection is annoying 😑😑 and the situation where he is able to intimidate the RRB is just hilariously ridiculous and impossible to me🤪😬... Like if he can intimidate the boys what are the girls for in the first place why do they need them then? 🤷‍♀️ It doesn't make sense, also the Professor is a very sweet accepting person and also he has some sense of guilt towards Mojo Jojo who is the responsable of the RRBs, he would probably want to help them going to the right path rather than trying to antagonize them being an "intimidating" Dad.

Bubbles being a weak pushover who is constantly compared to her sisters and needs another character help to get stronger because otherwise she is useless. Hate it, as if she was less than her sisters, I just can't take it if she gets dismissed or bullied and she just accepts it and somebody else has to defend her 😤😤(not in all escenarios thought, I mean certain situations specifically). Bubbles is sensitive but she has a temper, she won't take bullying just like that, she can fight her two sisters at the same time and they never hesitate to call for her help if they are overpowered. There's a fanfic where they have to give up some classes to watch over the boys and Bubbles got the worst part having to give up something she loves, Blossom not bad intentioned but still thoughtless and insensitive says that because of her good grades and Buttercup being a sport star they give prestige to the school unlike her🤡🤡 and Bubbles just accepts this, she never speaks up against this or complains! 🤬🤬What she renounced to caused other students to bully her and she still doesn't stands up for herself, she doesn't even tell her sisters and someone else has to defend her WTF, excuse me?🤬🤬 Nope. Or other fic where she and Butch have a relationship and the whole premise is how useless she is in battle, being compared to Buttercup all the time and needing Butch to teach her how to fight... HELLO??? NOPE.🙅‍♀️

Butch's multiple nicknames for Buttercup. Love it, honestly Buttercup has the biggest amount of nicknames, mostly given by Butch : Butters, Butterfly (they could name their daughter that), Butt-Cup, Butterbitch, Butterbabe, Bitterbitch, Butterbutt... lol 🤣🤣🤣

Buttercup being the sister with the most experience in love. Love it, seriously I just love the irony and contrast of the puff that was the most grossed out about romance and kissing, the known toughest fighter being actually the first one having deep serious romantic feelings and relationships and being first experiencing heartbreak. 😭😭😭

The Blues always having the easiest love story or starting a general RRB-PPG story with them already in love. Hate it, seriously whether you chose to make Boomer a jerk or a super sweet guy you shouldn't make that easy a relationship, I mean where is the good juice? This two get lovey dovey two fast and easy like they can't have a decent funny banter like their siblings!? 😫Trust me they can and they should otherwise is too boring. I specially dislike it when at the beginning of the story they are already in love or even in a relationship, where is the juicy process?? 😐

The greens starting with violence a lot of banter only to become bros, (yes, Buttercup is a Bro) and besties and eventually falling in love and taking a long time to accept it. Love it, oh boy I LOVE it, the only time I like a slow burn is when the characters are like this, the greens are just so entertaining,👌👌 so aggressively in denial and it can get so deep a wholesome! My favorite is in that fanfic where he actually starts obsessingly lusting over Blossom in such exaggerated way that when he starts to fall for Buttercup it created a marvelous deep contrast between the shallow attraction and the hopeless deep feelings of love and is just so beautifully written (even though the reds are terrible and the blues are bland in that fic) , seriously you can feel hard the difference of how he sees the beauty of Buttercup in the simplest and most meaningful way full of feeling😭💗 compared to his constant obsessed shallow remarks towards Blossom's "hotness". It was just too good, I don't know if I ever going to read another fic with the Greens being that good again. 🥺💚💚

Bubbles being the one with the most emotional intelligence. Love it, is just the best when characters around her are used to her being slow thinking and having her head in the clouds to suddenly realize that she picks up instantly others people feelings and understands them perfectly. After all Blossom is the mind 🧠, Buttercup is the body 💪and Bubbles is the heart 🫀of the group.

Butch getting a kick out of fighting Buttercup. Love it, a classic Butch being a masochist per usual, never gets old. 👊😂😂

Boomer being a clumsy macho tsundere. Love it, I'm weak with tsundere characters and I think it fits him, he trying to act all macho but ending up being super clumsy making Bubbles think he is cute. 🥰

Buttercup being described as someone always dressed with chandals, hoodie and baggy clothes... Ect and specially making her wear that kind of clothes because she is ashamed of her femenine attributes. Hate it, because I don't see Buttercup as that kind of tomboy 😕, she would wear skirts or dresses as long as they suit her style (like of course she would hate a princess tutú duh! but denim skirts exist ok) and also I just can't picture her being ashamed of the femininity of her body,😤she is only shy about feelings or intimacy but if she has a worked out body with muscles to show, boobs or not she WILL show off to brag.

Buttercup being popular with girls while being straight. Love it, I like girls fangirling over a good tomboy but I also love that you don't fall in the stereotype of the tomboy having to be the lesbian, lesbians can be also femenine and girly ok?💅💄💋 I also like the jokes about her being a lesbian, because of course if she was actually one then it wouldn't be a joke. 😇😂

Blossom being: too correct, entitled, Mary Sue, cold, party pooper, too serious, too mean, too bossy controlling, too victimitist or sacrificed, too perfect... All this not as a puntual moment in the story but she being like this all the time. Hate it, but ok to be fair is true that Blossom has a lot of attributes that can make characters be obnoxious but I swear she also have other attributes that make up for it and create a good balance: yes she is self-centered, but still caring and supporting to others,😌 yes she is prideful but when her pride is hurt she pouts and that's cute🤭, yes she is bossy but she also knows she doesn't have full control on her sisters and she can be a cool girlboss😎, yes she can be serious...sometimes because mostly she is really silly and likes to have fun🙃🙂, yes she can be all about following the rules but we all know she always ends up breaking them when is convenient to her🤫, she can be selfish or mean but that is not her everyday, she studies a lot but likes comics and video games too... She is a good 3 dimensional character.

Also Blossom being humble and modest like for real not pretending to be. Hate it, she humble?😂 Ja, NOPE. Following my previous statement, she is a bit full of herself despite having insecurities but writers tend to make her modest because loving too much your appearance and brag about it it's seen as a bad thing but there are plenty of pleasant characters that brag a lot about their looks and are lovable like Stella from winx club or Rouge the bat. I like Blossom to be that character that once she notices her beauty gets good reactions she is going to own it and walk through the hall like in a catwalk with her chin up 💅😎(only to more likely crash into a closed door or something because she was so busy enjoying that she didn't pay attention). Trust me, most of the time the excessive modesty ends up being extremely annoying. Example, beach day scene I have read that made me roll my eyes hard: RRB, PPG and some of their school friends, here Blossom is uncharacteristically antisocial and prefers to hide away and read a book while covering herself as much as she can (because of course wearing a swimsuit being attractive is such an indecent thing to do 😑) Instead of playing with her sisters and friends, but at some point she decided to play volley and OMG she uncovered herself and showed her swimsuit!😱 Only to cover herself again fast...😐 Bricks legs wavered like he almost faint... The boys gasp Butch feigns a heart attack blah blah. This was just so meh🙄😬! I would have liked it more if she made a sexy stunt purposely to provoke Brick who is a big jerk here so she could gloat on his reaction without any shame about her body. Fran struggles with her fertility and decides to remarry because she wants children. You change Michael’s gender and you change everything about WHWW.

These posts are so damn hilarious because they always try to insist that evidence we see of Zuko's kindness is either nonexistent or doesn't matter while Azula showing nothing but cruelty to everyone around her is just a teensy "mean streak."

Also, that post they linked to about teenage Zuko? Was written about Zuko as he was introduced in book 1, before it was established that he became that way because he was trying imitate what he thought he had to be to please his father, and the introduction of his sister who has those same negative qualities, such as being a bully and a bigot, except turned up to eleven. So to use this description to make Azula look better in comparison is...a choice.

I'd like them to explain where it's shown that Zuko is "pretty mean" as a child. Where he throws bread at a turtle duck because he is trying to imitate Azula? When he says he doesn't want to play with Azula because she is mean to him? Also notice how they pull the "girls are crazy" line out of the context in which it occurs, because, once again, he said it about Azula playing a mean trick on him. Funny how all of these instances of Zuko being "pretty mean," are, in fact, Zuko reacting to Azula's meanness.

On Zuko being unlikely to value something not from the Fire Nation, we actually do see kid Zuko value the Earth Kingdom dagger, while Azula is the one who burns the Earth Kingdom doll she is given. We also see Zuko as a child learn empathy and the value of hard work while Azula is self-centered and violent totally absorbs Fire Nation nationalism. It's true that Zuko as a child doesn't question his nation until he's thirteen but he's a lot closer than Azula is even as a young child because he has that base of empathy and being able to value other perspectives besides his own.

It's also pretty clear that the reason Zuko doesn't have friendships and is seen with his mother only while Azula is socialized with other girls and shown off to her grandfather is because of how Ozai treated Zuko like a pariah. It's certainly not due to Azula's winning personality, I can tell you that, since we see her push Ty Lee, play a mean prank on Mai, and say out loud that she wants her grandfather to die. Zuko is the one who is like you know, it's maybe not nice to wish death on relatives and recognize Mai's distress and try to help her.

But right, those things don't matter, and everything we are shown about Azula as a character is just Zuko's bias. Right.

This is not how stories work! You can't talk about character bias if the narrative never establishes that it's bias, never shows us any other perspective to compare it to. Saying that Azula was probably a lot nicer offscreen means nothing, because you can't establish something as part of a narrative and not show it or imply it in any way. It is never established that Zuko's negative reactions to Azula are unfounded. On the contrary, what we see of them when they are kids is Zuko being repeatedly ignored when he reacts negatively to his sister abusing him, and his father allowing and encouraging it, and his mother and uncle being unable to counteract it because they have no power in the household.

I'd also like an example of Azula "seeing value in things no one in the FN thinks are valuable." It's no mystery why Azula values Ty Lee, when Ty Lee is constantly praising her and easily shoved back in line when she doesn't do things that validate Azula. And as for Katara, these two characters are established by the narrative as direct foils! Katara being the bleeding heart of her community while Azule is adored by her militaristic nation. Katara who sacrifices herself out of love for others, and Azula who gathers minions around her who she thinks she can use to validate her sense of superiority until she ends up alone. Katara who has been marginalized by the violence done to her community and Azula who is privileged and spoiled. Katara who builds strong ties with those around her vs Azila who controls through fear. Katara who wins through kindness and love and creativity vs Azula who blames everyone else for her own destructiveness. Katara who has great respect for the other nations and Azula who has disdain for them. Katara is the girl who values learning from others who these people are looking for. Katara who is a fierce feminist and Azula who uses her privilege against other women. Katara who loved her mother fiercely vs Azula who tried to distance herself from her own because to her, love is a weakness. Katara who draws strength from her own pain and uses it to empathize with others and make sure no one else suffers the way she did, vs Azula who is so full of hatred and desire to hurt others because she was hurt. Azula is also a classist bigot and would have no respect for Katara, but the feeling would be mutual because Katara has too much self respect, and Azula would hate that the way she hates everyone she can't manipulate.

Ditto for Toph. You think Toph has any patience for Azula and her mind games? Here's what would happen there: Azula makes a blind joke. Azula now lives under ten meters of earth.

It's ironic because Toph and Katara actually form deep friendships with Zuko, lol. Who, once he is out from under his abuser's thumb, actually does form lasting relationships built on mutual love and respect.

I think her relationship differs from the others by virtue of her being an adult when she meets him, she's a not a starry eyed/traumatized teenager looking for a family. She's still after a support system though, a team to be on after she leaves the Titans, an older mentor to help her better herself. So it's not quite a father daughter relationship, but she does probably admire Slades skill and she is willing to be vulnerable with him.

That doesn't mean she'll take his shit though, she questions his orders routinely, she refuses to be demoted to a sidekick. Just because she's a student doesn't mean she's subservient, it's something that definitely caused friction in the early days of defiance where she strained against his leadership in a way he wasn't used to. A grown woman forcing him to see her as an equal while he trains her is very different from impulsive teenagers disobeying orders and he's not entirely sure how to deal with it at first.

But if there's one thing about Slade it's that the more someone fights him, the more fond he is. Once they've worked together for a while things settle down, they learn to read each other better and trust gets built up. I think that Slade would consider her one of his kids, but Tanya sees him as like, the uncle she lived with in college y'know. He's not exactly happy about it but it's not like he's in any position to push. Compared to his actual children he has a pretty good relationship with Tanya which really solidifies his idea that it's some family curse or genetic disposition for sucking as a parent as opposed to like, generational trauma he should do something about.

I think she has a complicated relationship with the family. She doesn't really consider herself a part of it the way the rest are, but she does see some of the Wilson kids as siblings because it's hard to be on a team with people, fighting together, living together, seeing fucked up shit together without getting close.

I think she gets along best with Joey, he grew up in a lot of the same social circles and he also understands a lot of the belittlement she gets.

It's because of her camaraderie with Joey that she's not really fond of Adeline, being someone who also grew up mostly relying on her mom the radioactive relationship between the Kane-Wilson's is something she doesn't want anything to do with. Suffice to say that while she respects Adeline as a business woman she will not be accompanying Joey to any family parties or reunions.

Following that she's got the kind of "older sisters that always competed growing up but are also closer to each other than either of you are with your younger siblings by virtue of being closest in age" relationship with Sunny you either get or you don't. Very specific but I think they are fond of each other even though they fight constantly. Most of the time they're not even trying to fight, Slade will tell them to quit bickering and they'll look at each other in bewilderment because they were having a normal conversation.

I don't think her and Rose are close, I feel like Tanya just relates more to other people in Rose's life just because of the age difference. To Tanya, Rose will always be "Joey's little sister" or "Dick's teammate". That doesn't mean that Tanya doesn't care about her though, they still know how to work together and I think Rose has maybe asked her for advice more than once. Whether it be on stupid socialite etiquette, how to shut Slade up or even grieving with the loss of her mom. It's like having a younger sister you don't live with, and you two were never the closest but sometimes you come home to her in your new apartment because she needs to complain about your dad and a candle she saw at the check out reminded her of you, so she brought a house warming gift even though you moved in two months ago.

Now the relationship between her and Poppy is complicated because of their relationships to Tara. On one hand she doesn't want to step on Tara's toes by taking over too much with Poppy, but she also doesn't want to leave either of them hanging since neither of them really have anyone besides Slade. On the other hand Tanya sometimes worries that Poppy is after more of a mother figure than another sister, and she doesn't feel ready for that. So it's a balancing act between being supportive enough to bond with her without getting close enough to intrude on Tara's role or give Poppy the wrong impression.

Her relationship with Tara has the aforementioned issue and... Tanya is kind of freaked out by her. Like everything about Tara and her relationships to Slade, Rose and Poppy just really makes her sad but she also doesn't want to involve herself in all that crazy. Also Tara has A Thing for Beast Boy (It's not a crush in my rewrite, more of a hero worship thing for the person who broke up the Dark Side Club) who Tanya considers her best friend and it's really weird for her to hear and talk about.

I don't really see her liking Grant if he were alive, she would think him working specifically to piss off Slade is funny until it coincides with her own jobs. Mostly that's yet another complicated inner family dynamic she doesn't want to get close to. She's mildly fascinated by him the way a child's fascinated by a bug under a microscope, she's really curious to find out what being Slade and Adeline's least favorite kid does to a person. Their civilian personas have fake Twitter beef (she thinks it's a joke but he's very serious about it) though.

Despite that, you and Saki are always his number one supporters, so he often invites you both to shows!! He'll give you a big hug at the end of each one

If you like messing with him, pull out the fake bugs. He will scream out of his mind but he also adores you too much to stay upset at you...Just never give him another heart attack-

The two of you also more than likely tag team hanging out with Saki, she's your little sister so you both (mostly Tsukasa) plan little fun events for the three of you!

Saki:

You and Saki were practically inseparable! Two little twins running around with Tsukasa chasing after you

Things certainly shift when she gets hospitalized, but you don't mind one bit. You visit her constantly (as does Tsukasa, but he gets thrown out for noise complaints-)

When she gets out of the hospital, she tries to bond with Leo/Need again, only to find that the dynamic is weird. Since you were close with them all as well, you knew how strange it felt

The two of you worked together to try and get the gang back together again, and it works! Leo/Need forms, and Saki is happier than ever!

You are obviously dragged along to practices, Shiho will probably tell her to calm down because she's just so excited to have you there with them!

There are times where she pushes herself past her limit, and you basically have everything on hand to help her out. Twin teamwork!

She just adores you, Tsukasa and the rest of Leo/Need so much!! She constantly takes you around, wanting to live out the middle school life that she always wanted!

Shizuku:

Shizuku has an...interesting and very different life growing up compared to you, but of course, she still adores you!

She never really wanted to be an idol, but she decided to roll with it. You definitely can tell that the life is both exciting and terrifying to her-

She'll ramble about being an idol with you, eyes sparkling as she describes how fun it is!...At least, at first.

She hears all about how she's only famous for her looks, and she can only come to you for comfort through it all. Thankfully, it all changes once she joins MMJ!

You can tell just how much happier she is, and she loves nothing more than to gush about you to her groupmates as she brings you around backstage

We all know had bad she is with directions and technology, so most of the time you're the one to help her (unless you're also just as bad, then Shiho has to deal with it.)

Shiho is thankful that you exist, because you definitely take away some of the attention Shizuku showers her with- You're both just gushed over by your sister!

Shiho:

Shiho has always been the type to stay closed off and quiet, but as her twin, you're part of the group of people allowed to "bother" her

It would definitely be strange to see you both without the other, so of course you were brought along to hang out with the rest of Leo/Need

You noticed she started to close herself off even more, the only person she didn't seem to isolate from was you. Even then, she didn't want you to be by her for long

You weren't entirely sure of the specifics, but she came home clutching her bass guitar, smiling as she told you about Leo/Need. It was the happiest you'd seen her

She occasionally drags you along to practices, and has to pry all of them off of you because they missed hanging out with you as well-

You're also the only person she willingly shows her pet games to. Will she embarrassed out of her mind? Yes. But she trusts you-

this was a chapter dedicated for the one we had to leave behind. fumi came full of love to show us how mitsumi grew with so much love and care, with someone who would be there for her no matter what.

different from what we thought previously, fumi gave us the beauty and delicacy that she has to offer. where we though was jealously was, in fact, an undeniable love and appreciation that she would carry with her all her life. not only that but we had a beautiful finalization for maharu’s arc. as i suspected before, there’s a lot going on inside maharu’s mind, which is extremely normal for someone her age. while she open up to fumi, she doesn’t even have a proper reason on why she wants to go to tokyo — is purely a scream for attention.

maharu wants tokyo because she thinks tokyo is the answer to being an adult and also the answer for her parent’s attention. when we compare her reactions here with chapter 51, it gets even clearer how she’s begging for everyone to see her and ti listen to what she needs. and she’s not wrong for feeling like that, as fumi herself stated. she’s feeling alone and she miss mitsumi a lot, which just shows how much she adores her sister and how much she wishes she could be a little bit like her.

fumi was the perfect person to talk to maharu, because she’s the only one who actually KNOWS how maharu is feeling, since she felt it too. fumi blown out at mitsumi because she wanted her friends attention, wanted that mitsumi to know how hurt she was.

and, if we do the math, maharu is closely the same age as fumi and mitsumi were when they had their first “fight”. both girls saw mitsumi as this bright, incredible human who was seeking for something even bigger than they could offer and so they begged for her attention.

it’s normal, it’s something teenagers constantly feel: the need for attention and for someone who hear them and show them that yes, they are right for feeling like that, is extremely important and essential for a adolescent. and that was fumi for maharu, and maharu for fumi.

the beauty of it all, for me, is how fumi opens up this whole bitter moment of her life just to be surprised by mitsumi’s love later — mitsumi have new friends from tokyo and she loves them, but her best friend will forever be fumi, doesn’t matter what.

and why not give fumi another little confused teenager for her to have a little chat?

there’s a little big thing that happens in shima’s talk with fumi that really needs to be highlighted: when shima talks about how mitsumi’s sees HIS feelings, fumi gets confused. and i understand her!! can you imagine if a boy came to talk to you and say that your best friend doesn’t think he loves her “like that”, when in reality, not even himself knows it?

when fumi says “it’s your feelings were talking about”, makes it even more obvious to me how shima doesn’t know how he’s really feeling and how to deal with all these new emotions inside his heart. it’s not that he likes her or not: he doesn’t UNDERSTAND what this feeling means. that’s EXACTLY why he always says “mitsumi thinks i don’t like her like that”, AND NOT “I don’t like her like that”. when he puts his feelings on someone else’s hands, it just shows how he always had someone dictating how he had to feel rather than he himself dealing with it.

i do believe that put a big question mark on his head, such as “what did she (fumi) mean by that?”. after all, fumi was the first one to say “YOUR feelings”, the first one to point it out to his face rather than just think to themselves.

aside from all of that, the chapter itself is delightful. it’s a chapter that screams summer break and it just shows how much this kids love each other and how they desperately want to know more about mitsumi (look how the girls ran to fumi!!!!!!!!).

i just love to see all of them having fun and enjoying their youth the way they deserve. now they don’t have to fake personalities, hide their bodies or act cold towards anyone. they found their safe place, and my heart is at peace

a little more on shima and his feelings:

if you read one of my shima character study, you'll remember when i said the following:

what does it mean to love someone romantically when he never once felt jealous? what does it mean to care so much for someone when he was never cared to? what does it mean to give up of someone you love so dearly if he can’t even let it all go? how does one stop making excuses?

i keep thinking about this and thinking about chapter 52 and how devastating it is for a 16 yo boy who has absolute no idea whatsoever about his own feelings and how navigate thought them because he was denied his autonomy for years and years.

if we think about it, much like any other child stars, shima never had a chance to have a normal and healthy childhood. when kids his age were playing, making friends and scratching their knees, he was bearing his mother’s trauma, committing huge mistakes which would lead to one of his best friends to almost lose her career, having to keep his family life in check and having thousands of people saying how he should act, feel and behave. because of that, it’s no surprise that he would act the way he did when he started middle school.

when someone inflicted their feelings on him, he doesn’t know how to deny them, since he was always the one to accept and bear other’s emotions. he never had someone asking “but how do YOU feel?” or “but do YOU like me?”. it was always someone blaming him for it all.

chris was the only friend (before fumi) who tried to talk to him about it all and to show how much he needed to connect with himself (ririka did try, even tho people want to deny it, but she’s also extremely hurt and traumatized, ofc it will be abruptly). but it’s easier said than done. even tho he’s trying to leave his past behind, he’s still saying “she think i feel like this” — and that’s not mitsumi’s fault AT ALL. she’s just a girl who wants to be loved and wants her friend to be true to his feelings.

what she experienced with him when they both were dating told her something that maybe wasn’t what shima was trying to say, but it happened. she’s just trying to cary the world on her back, which is causing him a lot of damage.

shima is someone who still needs a LOT of patience from us and a lot of time. someone who was abused all his life won’t change in a blink of an eye. what i’m extremely thankful, tho, is that now he’s surrounded by people who love him deeply.
