Thought about it too hard and realized brenner does have crazy healing. Behind the curve but I got there.
#i would say regenerative healing but idk about thay specifically#remains to be seen whether he can grow back body parts and organs but#the zombie boy stuff... the brenner easter egg when henry lands in the UD... el clearly having the ability to revive people#so revival is an established fact in st and el wasnt even in the SAME room as max when she revived her#all it requires is a UD zoom call#and makes sense that he seems to be rapidly aging#particuarily after he is revived since healing takes energy and the energy it takes from the body to heal after what is a for sure#a fatal wound is immense. and the human body can only produce so much energy probably#it just remains to be seen if hes healing himself or if someone is healing him#i like to think brenner has some kind of deal with the devil (extra dimensional being) like how#henrys (maybe henry) corpse is being puppeting around by the mindflayer#like a 'mirror'... vecna is a mirror to brenner. rip.#misc#definitely a 'i saw it in a psychic vision' thing but it makes lots of sense#actually maybe everyone in hawkins is a revived corpse puppet 🧐#would make a lot of sense as to why that town us so weirdddd

Thinking about baby patty 20 dead 40 wounded
#stranger things#patty newby#(through tears) noo ahah dont think about how patty had no friends in hawkins growing up#and how the closest thing to a friend wouldve been bob vs rhe way bob’s annoyed w her initially re: his radio stuff/the whole fucked up#newby damily dynamic as a whole/the emotional distance that Does exist between bob and patty as a result of mr newbys favouritism#towards bob. do NOT think about how patty is the same age as s4 el vs how el’s had friends since s1#like imagine if el didnt meet max or the party until season 4…. and the fact that patty’s first opening scene/one of the very first things#we’re told about her (and henry) is that she’s lonely… stop stop im already dead#:((((((((#patty i would been your friend its ok#(through tears): when do you guys think baby patty stopped trying to play with bob/when do you guys think that the whole family dynamic#really started to squash any like. proper close bonding yk like they dont hate eachother in tfs by any means but its like#there’s definitely a Distance there in a lot of ways & definitely resent etc you can feel under the surface (although in the end that def#improves) but i just. dont look at me im thinking about baby patty trying to ppay with bob but then going off to sit alone#(through tears and comically loud sobbing sounds) do you guys think that bob blamed patty for his mom leaving the same way mr newby blamed#her for his wife leaving? do you guys think that’s why bob didnt protect/defend her until the end of the play? and even then he didnt DO it#so much as say that he SHOULD have…..#(through even more tears) do NOT think about how quickly patty accepted mr newbys apology and even insisted initially that he has nothing to#apologize for despite the way hes treated her vs the fact that patty so clearly just wants to be loved#do not think about patty’s dad being the principal vs her still getting bullied all the time and then getting in trouble for defending#herself/mocking walter… mr newby when i fucking catch you!!!!!!!#pattyposting

I love Dustin’s My Little Pony Hypothesis so much!! He’s literally doing the opposite of gatekeeping nerd spaces with it! It’s so kind! To not go “actually you must prove your niche knowledge of my interests to prove you belong in my circle” and instead say “your interests, although not my interests exactly (even though he must have watched it to know all this lol bro), are similar enough to make us siblings whether you want to or not.” And in turn Erica realizes that that’s a good thing! That’s a connection and love!! That she is a nerd and that’s good. And it’s so emblematic of the show!! Which doesn’t just have nerds being bullied for being nerds but very deliberately makes its nerds Black, disabled, female and queer!! Making it this thing that people regardless of who they are can bond over! It’s a love letter to all this nerd stuff but it also says this stuff is for all! And that means all and not just white cishte dudebros on reddit! And that’s just so!!!! Hello! I love you!!!!!
#byler#because y'all get it#dustin henderson#stranger things#number one underrated st moment#it's literally the thesis of the show. I love it so much#like not all of them like nerd shit in the same way. Max doesn't play dnd but she does love video games. El isn't into any of it but she#loves that her friends love it. Joyce doesn't understand but she still keeps asking. Nancy used to play! And even Steve#bless his preppy heart. loves making lightsaber noises and ewoks. And they're all just as welcome in this group and in this space#kissing the duffers on the mouth rn#imagine me stimming so hard my hands lift my body of the floor. because this is how i feel. cannot wait for s5 to go all out on this#(also side note Eddie and Henry are so interesting in this regard!!! Anyone else still fucking pissed that the Duffers decided to erase Kali’s fucking existence just because the fanboys didn’t like that one episode? Gotta say feels racist and misogynistic as fuck
#I miss her#also that episode literally wasn’t that bad#I really feel like they just didn’t know what they were doing with that kind of dynamic#it could have been better#doesn’t mean they had to fucking erase her#they don’t even have to bring her back#just#like#literally any acknowledgment of her#just like a mention of her being unique and different then the other kids#or make it a point that El and Henry had the same or very similar making them the odd ones out#and like more parallels between#them#maybe even more reason for the other kids to bully El#stranger things#this show#is#not that good#anyways I love Kali and she is criminally under appreciated

wondering about how Kali’s doing...
i always always think about that final shot of her, watching El turn around and run away, to go back to her friends and family because they need her, and how heartbroken Kali looks because of it
and you know that ate at her. that moment where El said “no, these people who you are saying are trying to suppress me. they need me. and i need them. i love them. i can’t stay.” you KNOW that ate at Kali. you KNOW that she thought about it for months and months and months and she thought “am i doing this wrong?”
i like to think that, because of that goodbye, she realized that she can’t be going down the path she has chosen. that maybe El is right and it’s better to have mercy, to forgive, to strive for goodness rather than sticking to revenge because of the temporary relief. love will always be the better choice
#kali prasad#stranger things#KALI MY BELOVED COME BACK!!!!!!#she and el are so fucked up and traumatized like. i love#how both of those characters have such loaded histories with love and family#and kali had to fend for herself with no immediate good support system#like her friends are good people. just maybe a little misguided#theyre behaving the way they behave bc the world has forgotten about them#and kali was forgotten. so she wanted the ppl who made her life hell to remember her#anyone who says kali is a bad toxic person im biting you im biting you im biting you#she and el are the SAME just like el and henry are the SAME it's all about CIRCUMSTANCE#she's just FUCKED UP like all the other kids and is deserving of wiggle room!!!!#anyway not to be like *guy who's only ever watched atla* hm getting lots of atla vibes from this#but kali reminds me very much of katara when she goes to find the man who killed her mother#and how in the end she couldn't kill him#and not bc she forgave him. but bc it wouldnt make her feel better#it wouldnt bring her mother back#i think that's what el taught kali. that the murder might feel good for a moment#but it won't help in the long run#that look kali has on her face as they drive off and leave el.......... i think that lesson is clicking in her head#ANYWAY#i say things

Thoughts on "Escape from Camazotz"
Oppressive Suburbia, Conformity, and Season 5 Themes
I've long thought that a major focus of Season 5 will be the contrast between the families of The Wheelers and The Byers, and exploring how non-traditional family environments can be freeing vs the oppressive structure of the nuclear family.
In a Wrinkle In Time, Camazotz is a planet controlled by the big bad of the book, the "IT", who forces the citizens into a conformity that resembles American suburbia. All of the houses the same, the citizens the same, doing the same things at the same time without individual identity. Without anything different. Different means a lot of things, but with Stranger Things dropping different in reference to Will's identity and the presumable themes of this season, it will heavily codify as queerness and how it threatens the cisheterosexual family model.
Henry was raised in the 1950s, a decade still revered by conservatives for it's traditional family dynamics that supposedly were the peak of culture and happiness for all. That was all a lie, of course, and Henry knew so as he shows to Nancy and Eleven during his monologue. The second most conservative decade aside from the 1950s in American society is widely considered to be the 1980s.
The Creels will serve in parallel to The Wheelers; the worst example of what they could become and the damage that this type of family could do to a child that is different in any way. Notice how Vecna selectively shows Nancy visions of The Wheelers dying, but not anyone else she may consider family or friends (like Jonathan).
That is; unless they change their ways and come together as a healthy functioning family facing their traumas, The Wheelers will be toast.
Karen has been moved up to a main character role this season. Ted's actor says the father starts to show up more for Holly (hold that) and realizes he wants to act differently. Holly has been recast. Finn has said Mike goes on a much more personal journey this season, and steps up as a leader.
Oh, also: the catalyst for all of this is that Holly goes missing. The contrast will help show how the Byers (including El and Hopper here) were able to pull together and help solve Will's disappearance, versus how the Wheelers as a closed off nuclear family grapple with Holly's vanishing.
Each of the Byers is in some kind of a non-1950s conformist relationship, but particularly Will (not in one now but we all know he will be). I think El might represent, after she breaks up with Mike, the fear of the unmarried woman being satisfied without a husband. The above shot really emphasizes my point.
I predict that Will will end up coming out to his family rather early on, and we will see all of them immediately accept him with little surprise or push-back. Will is a visible gay man who comes from an open minded non traditional family (divorced, non-married, adoptive) that is willing to have honest conversations.
But this theme will place the most focus on the Wheelers. Mike is the main character of said family and this will particularly focus on his arc, and his acceptance of his queerness in the midst of suburban conformity.
He is not visible, he comes from a Reagan-supporting family who don't communicate with each other. He is not particularly close with his family like Will is. He pushes his feelings down and tries his damn hardest to be normal despite it all. His trauma hasn't really been addressed at all. He is falling back into his usual habits - the one thing he dared to do different (grow his hair long) has gone back to how it was.
It's not all doom and gloom though. This season above all will be a redemption arc of the American nuclear family, how they choose to escape their conformity and learn to be there for each other, thus overpowering Vecna. Not that the Wheelers are going to end this personally.
"Great, more hysteria. Just what we need". "It's the news, now indistinguishable from the tabloids".
#stranger things#mike wheeler#the wheelers#the byers family#byler#will byers#st5 speculation#henry creel#the specificity of this title alone and the themes gives me no doubt that these are all real#i also think this is the episode where byler is canonized and where mike finally escapes conformity#holly wheeler#ted wheeler#karen wheeler#i didnt really mention nancy at all sorry girl#if youre reading this PLEASE search up my username on youtube you will find it SO RELEVANT

Steve is powered AU.
It's after Vecna and the Upside Down collapsing on itself before anyone finds out.
When Steve was seven, his mother had a psychotic break, saying that Steve was a changeling and tried to drown him the large bath tub in his parents' bathroom.
It was during this time she was admitted to Pennhurst.
They're cleaning up the Harrington Estate when his mother comes home and just starts screaming about the mess. Steve finally gets her calm down and tells Eddie that she didn't always used to be that way, she used to be a sweet and loving mother.
That's when Stella Harrington comes screaming back in that she didn't change. He did. He was the imposter. She knows her son and this creature before her isn't him.
But she won't explain how she knows.
Then a couple days later Nancy was talking to Robin about how someone should go back to Pennhurst to tell Victor Creel, that his son survived and is the cause of the all the destruction.
Robin is against it, because his mind was already shattered and that might destroy it. Nancy thinks he would want to know that he wasn't crazy.
When the name finally pinged in Steve's head. When they were trying to figure out who Vecna was, the name kept ringing a bell in his head. And just then it hit him.
His mother had been admitted there when he was younger.
But he keeps it to himself, because the last person he wants to know his mother was/is crazy is Nancy.
So he calls up the Hospital and requests her file and finds out that someone else recently accessed her file. Her doctor, Martin Brenner, had called just two weeks before the events that would lead to his death.
The receptionist asks if the address in Reno, Nevada is still good.
Steve's blood turns to ice in his veins.
Holy shit.
He corrects the address to Hawkins, Indiana and she brightens. Tells him that it's nice she's home again.
Steve needs to talk to El and he needs to do it away from Hopper. Because Hopper can't know about this. No one can.
Only Eddie starts noticing how withdrawn and twitchy Steve has become lately and manages to show up at the house when Steve gets his mother's medical files.
They learn that only reason Stella survived the Nina Project massacre was because she was on her to another facility for testing.
When Steve was seven his powers manifested so strongly, that his mother who was an empath, tried to suppress it so that Dr. Brenner wouldn't get his hands on Steve and it broke her mind. But Dr. Brenner didn't want Steve. Incorrectly assuming that she had succeeded, he wanted to harness her ability to break other's powers. Because if she could break Steve's, maybe she could break Henry's.
It was that research that led the device that controlled Henry's powers.
But Dr. Brenner realized that Stella didn't suppress Steve's powers. Steve did.
But his exposure to the Upside Down had eroded the block and that's why Steve was able to sense what was wrong with Nancy, knew that Max was in trouble.
He could sense it.
Dr. Owens tries to be respectful when asking Steve if they could run tests on him.
Everyone shouts NO at the same time.
But now everyone knows that Steve is powered, too, and El helps him learn to control it and take the break off completely. The first time they tried Steve got so overwhelmed with Eddie's love and affection for him that he passed out.
They were both pretty embarrassed that that was the way they got together. But Eddie liked to joke that his charm literally knocked Steve over.
Over the years it gets more fine-tuned. He knows Eddie is going propose before he does.
Knows when Max is pregnant with her first. Lucas couldn't keep his emotions down for shit.
Knows when Mike and El finally break up and realize they're better as friends. Their emotions are very angry for awhile before they mellow out.
Knows about Will and Mike's first kiss. Will is practically bursting with it.

Christmas 2030.
find the series masterlist here!
6 & 2 years old | December 2030
“Mumma, boots!” Ellie said as she sat on the bottom step, pointing at a pair of football boots, “Put boots on!”
“Els it’s Christmas and it’s cold!” Leah laughed as she helped Finley to slip his boots on. “You need your big snow boots to keep you warm, bubs!”
Ellie shook her head before turning her attention to you, “Mummy, no! ‘Ou tell Mumma no!”
You chuckled at Ellie’s stubbornness, kneeling down in front of her as she stared up at you with her big, pleading eyes. Those same eyes Leah could never say no to—Ellie knew exactly what she was doing.
"Ellie," you began gently, smoothing a hand over her curls, "Mumma’s right. It’s too cold for your football boots today. We’ll wear them when it’s warmer, okay?"
Ellie’s little face scrunched up in frustration, her lower lip trembling like she might argue again. But before she could protest, Leah swooped in, lifting Ellie into her arms and spinning her around.
"How about this," Leah said with a playful grin, "We’ll put your football boots on after the walk when we get home, and you can show everyone how fast you are inside. Deal?"
Ellie paused, clearly weighing her options. Then, with a slow, deliberate nod, she pointed a tiny finger at Leah. "Deal, Mumma," she said seriously like they were sealing an important agreement.
You smiled, relieved that the potential meltdown had been avoided. Finley, now fully bundled up in his winter gear, came bouncing over, tugging at your hand. "Can we go now, Mum? I wanna show everyone my bike again! And Uncle Snake promised he’d play with me and Henry!”
"Of course, bud," you said, standing up and grabbing his hand. "Let’s head out before it gets too dark."
It was Christmas Eve and like every year, you were joining Leah’s family on their Christmas Eve walk. The walk had changed a lot over the years, from it being just the two of you to you walking it while pregnant with Finley to then adding him and Ellie into the mix.
Leah grabbed the pram as you made your way outside with the kids, you both knew that Ellie would get tired and end up falling off to sleep.
“Nana!” Ellie smiled, running over to Amanda, “Walk in woods?”
Amanda scooped Ellie up into her arms, “Yeah, bubba! We’re going for a walk in the woods, are you excited?”
“Chase Finn and Snake?” Ellie said, pointing and Finley who was playing a game of tag with Jacob.
Ellie wiggled with excitement in Amanda’s arms, her tiny legs kicking. Leah chuckled as she locked the front door and grabbed your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Looks like we’re in for a lively walk."
You smiled back at her. "At least until Ellie passes out."
Amanda adjusted Ellie on her hip, a knowing smile on her face. "I give it ten minutes. She’s always out like a light after running with those two."
As you all began to walk towards the woods, the familiar sounds of laughter and chatter surrounded you. Leah’s family had already gathered, the kids excitedly running ahead, while the adults strolled at a more leisurely pace. Jacob, of course, was already engaged in an exaggerated game of hide-and-seek with Finley and Henry, ducking behind trees and making the boys squeal with laughter as they tried to find him.
Leah nudged you with her shoulder, smiling as she watched the scene unfold. "Remember when it was just us, sneaking away for this walk after all the Christmas chaos?"
You laughed, squeezing her hand. "I remember. Feels like a lifetime ago, but I wouldn’t trade this for anything."
Ellie had already wriggled out of Amanda’s arms and was determinedly following Finley and Jacob, though her little legs couldn’t quite keep up. You could see her determination, her face scrunched up with focus as she called after them, "Wait! Ellie fast too!"
Leah laughed softly, watching her. "She’s going to be unstoppable when she’s older, you know that?"
"She already is," you said, chuckling as Ellie finally gave up chasing the boys and ran back to Amanda, huffing in frustration.
Leah wrapped an arm around you as the woods surrounded you all. The air was crisp, but the warmth of the moment was undeniable. This was tradition, the kind that felt timeless and comforting no matter how many years passed.
After a while, Ellie, predictably, started to slow down, her steps growing heavier until she was half-limping, half-stumbling. Leah noticed immediately and scooped her up, snuggling her into the warm folds of her coat.
“Looks like we hit the ten-minute mark,” Leah whispered with a grin, her breath visible in the cold air.
You laughed softly, reaching over to tuck a strand of hair behind Ellie’s ear as her eyes drooped shut. "Told you." You smiled as Leah placed her in the pram.
As the walk continued, the sun dipped lower, casting a golden hue over the woods. Leah slowed her pace, making sure the kids were always within view. Finley was still full of energy, racing ahead with Jacob and Henry, while Ellie snoozed peacefully in the pram, her cheeks rosy from the cold.
You walked hand in hand with Leah beside Amanda, Jordan and Holly. The cold air nipped at your cheeks, but the warmth of Leah’s hand in yours kept you grounded and comfortable. It felt perfect, this moment where the noise of the world was drowned out by nature and family.
Jordan, laughing at something Holly had said, turned back toward you and Leah. “You two all set for tomorrow? I’m guessing the kids are going to wake up at dawn.”
You exchanged a knowing glance with Leah, who chuckled. “If we’re lucky, it’ll be dawn. Last year, Finley was up before four. Had to convince him to go back to sleep.”
Amanda smiled. “It’s the magic of Christmas. I still remember when you were like that, Le. Couldn’t wait to see what Santa brought.”
Leah smiled at her mum. “Yeah, I remember too. But now it’s payback, right?”
You nudged Leah playfully. “I don’t think either of us were prepared for the chaos that comes with two kids at Christmas.”
Jordan laughed. “Chaos is what makes it fun! Besides, now we have Jacob to distract the kids, right?” She motioned toward Jacob, who was hiding poorly behind a tree from the boys. The kids' laughter echoed through the woods as they “sneaked up” on him.
“They’ve got him wrapped around their fingers,” Leah said, shaking her head with amusement.
The woods began to open up into a small clearing, the glow from distant houses beginning to illuminate the path. Ellie stirred slightly in the pram but remained asleep, her little fingers peeking out from beneath the blanket. Leah paused for a moment, bending down to tuck the blanket back around her more snugly.
By the time you returned to the house, the kids were worn out but in high spirits, their cheeks flushed from the chilly air. Inside, the warmth enveloped you, and the smell of hot chocolate and Christmas Eve dinner preparations filled the air.
After getting the kids into their pyjamas and tucking them into bed—Finley still chattering away about the walk, and Ellie too tired to even protest—there was finally a quiet moment for just you and Leah.
You found her in the living room, sitting on the couch with a blanket draped over her legs. You sat beside her, leaning your head against her shoulder, feeling the familiar comfort of her presence.
Leah shifted slightly, "I keep saying it but I can’t believe how big they’re getting," she said softly. "It feels like yesterday when it was just Finley’s first Christmas, and now look at him…and Els too. She’s so big…"
You smiled, “I know. It’s going by so fast."
Leah was quiet for a moment, her hand finding yours and intertwining your fingers. "I’ve been thinking," she said softly, her voice a little hesitant. "About having another baby."
You turned your head slightly to look at her. She met your gaze, her eyes searching yours for a reaction. You’d talked about it a lot since Ellie’s first day of preschool and it was something that you couldn’t stop thinking about.
"You really want to go have another one?" you asked gently. “And you’re up to carrying a baby?”
Leah exhaled slowly, nodding. "Yeah… I do. I know it won’t be easy, and we might have to face some challenges. But I can’t stop thinking about it. I feel like… I don’t know, like we’re not done yet. I don’t care about missing time from football, I’m craving another baby. I want another tiny little newborn, pretty girl.”
Your heart warmed at the thought of expanding your family. "You’ve been thinking about this for a while, huh?"
Leah smiled softly, a bit sheepish. "Yeah. It’s been on my mind, especially seeing Ellie and Finn together, and how much love they have for each other. And I want that again—another little one to love, to grow with us. I really want to experience pregnancy too.”
You leaned into her more, pressing a soft kiss to her shoulder. "You know I’m with you, whatever happens. We can make it work, just like we always have."
Leah squeezed your hand, her thumb brushing over your knuckles. "I know. I just… I needed to say it out loud. To see if you were on the same page."
You smiled against her shoulder. "We’ve always been on the same page, Le. If this is what you want, we’ll figure it out together."
She looked at you, her eyes a little misty. "Thank you, pretty girl.”
You pulled her closer, wrapping your arms around her. "We’ve got this, no matter what."

Steve froze as the mind flayer came flying downwards at their group. He could hear Hopper yell for everyone to get down. Joyce and Jonathan running for Will. Steve who had been by both Robin and El, threw himself in front of them. Covering them the best he could. The mindflayer hit them with its smoke form and it was like nothing Steve had ever felt before. As is a tidal wave and a strong gust of wind mixed together to make you feel like you were drowning on land.
It settles around their feet for a moment before it began to swirl around all of them. Tendrils ran up Steve's leg but he didn't focus on that when there was one on El. The girl was the best shot to killing this thing. If she was taken now, they were fucked. So he battered them away from her as she did her best to get free of it's grips.
Only when Steve feels a tug, not on his leg or arm but like something tugged inside of him. Like someone had gotten a good grip on his intestines and pulled. Steve stumbled back his body going taught as he felt what felt like electricity running through his veins. His hand spasms and he drops the nail bat before his knees give out. Robin shouts his name and the last thing he sees before falling forward onto the ground is her outreached arms.
Steve feels nothing and everything at the same time. It makes it difficult to open his eyes but when he does, it's to an empty landscape. Like the Upside Down but... Just nature. It wasnt the creepy hell version of Hawkins but floating rocks and yellow lightning. The vines looked more like veins than slimy killers. And there was a form, made out of black particles flickering around. Silently he wishes that they could just have normal human problems to worry about. Instead of this.
As Steve stared, frozen to his spot, he could see it solidify into a spider like form before becoming something closer to a swarm of bees. It was the mindflayer. But it wasn't attacking like it had just been, it was just watching him. "King, help," the word isn't said but Steve hears it clear as day.
His brow furrows, "what?"
"King," it responds like he should understand. But he doesn't. "Help us, my king."
That word lost all meaning to him hears ago. From Tommy starting the nickname to the distain Steve could feel when Robin teased him with it. "You are called a king." It says and the pressure from it's words is like a pressure to his skull.
He winces and takes a step back, "that- I'm no king." But it doesn't seem to understand repeating the word once more. He feels at a lost, wishing someone else was here. He barely understood Will and El when they explained it wasn't the mindflayer attacking them, it was just Henry. That technically the mindflayer was just another puppet. Yet no one else is here. Wherever here is.
He feels dread light up his limbs and sighs. "Look, I haven't been called that in a long time. It basically-"
But the mindflayer cuts him off, "you are a king without a kingdom.” It's almost like a question but said like a demand.
"Sure, I guess. But I don't- what the fuck-" he screams, starting back as the smoke spirals down in front of him, looking smaller... But like a more condensed form. It almost looked solid if not for the wisps floating around it
"We need a king." The form flickers and it's like a living shadow.
"I'm not a king," Steve presses but as it takes a step forward, he scrambles further back until he trips on one of the many vines. As it reaches out, its hand catches him from falling. The fingers wrapped around his wrist are solid, almost warm against him.
"We need a ruler, a mind to melt us." The form is growing firmer the longer they stand here and Steve is lost. "you already are changing us." And if it can, it sounds amused.
"But- it was just a nickname. I'm not special." Steve splutters and the blackness of the smoak is changing. "I don't even know how to help you."
The grip on his wrist is completely solid and when Steve glances down, long human fingers are around his wrist. "Oh, my king, you're already helping us. Henry wanted us to strike fear in his enemies, he wanted an ally in his war, he wanted a beast. You just want to be free, for your friends to be safe, for me to be human. You desire a normalcy that you've lost," and the voice isn't pounding into Steve's skull but spoken like someone is speaking to him.
But Steve can look away from the hand around his wrist. "You desire for your friends to have a normal childhood, to have friends and play their games. You desire Robin to have another friend to confide in. You desire love," the voice is smooth and it would be relaxing if it weren't for the fact that it had been the fucking mindflayer a second ago. "My king, we can give it all to you," another hand moves and cups his cheek. Tilting him to look at a man with sparkling eyes and curly brown hair. As a smile formed on the man's face, a dimple formed to wink at Steve. "I think that it could be fun for both of us," the man grinned and Steve wasn't really sure what was happening anymore.
So I was trying around with this king Steve plot thingy after reading In Over My Head by staymagical (a wonderful fic if anyone's interested💞) but I had another actual idea of something like Venom (yes from spiderman) but more of... Well it was like Eddie somehow becomes Steve's shadow as in Eddie wasn't human. But I haven't gotten around to writing it yet. I might write a small clip like this with that premise tho. Anyways I combined the two ideas because I could and you got this. Hopefully it's at least an entertaining thought for ya 💞

Superfam and Found Family: What it Means to Choose
I have seen a lot of my beloved mutuals talk about adoption as a theme in the superfam, and thats true, thats very much a thing, but thats more a subsection of the larger idea with the superfamily: You get to choose your family, and define your relationship to them.
Clark and Kon come to mind. They've been discussed a lot lately, huh? Namely people saying Clark does not treat Kon well. This is false, by the way, they get along great.
But let's sort of dig into the actual story told by their relationship here: Kon was created by Lex without Clark's consent. Clark had no say in how part of his DNA would be used to create a new life.
(This is coincidentally why it irks me that certain fans will act like Clark is a monster for even HYPOTHETICALLY not wanting a relationship with Kon. Guys, you sound like pro-lifers. Lets watch it!)
Despite this, Clark accepts Kon with open arms. Now, as myself and others have pointed out, Kon's technically... he's not a clone, he's a test tube baby. Technically, biologically, he's Clark & Lex's son. D.. diversity win...?
But thats not how Clark and Kon choose to define their relationship. They instead decide, hey, we were raised by the same people, we're brothers.
Kon is not an outsider to the Superfam, even as he is an outsider to this world- He is welcomed with open arms once it is clear he needs a home. And with Clark and Kon, they get to choose how they define their relationship, not Lex, not anyone else.
Then, John Henry and Nat. John Henry is not Natasha's father, but their relationship is very complex and often veers into that territory, for the simple reason that he shows up for her in that capacity when Natasha's own father fails her.
Even while their relationship has its ups and downs (read 52 guys for THEM), they manage to forge a relationship based on mutual respect, enough to the point where during Steelworks, she is not just his niece, but his partner in building a better tomorrow. It is a fatherly/daughterly relationship built on mutual respect largely independent of their blood relation, built on the security that Clay failed to provide Natasha with.
Of course, to talk about adoption, Clois adopting the twins. I think Phillip Kennedy Johnson handles the topic of adoption EXPERTLY with Otho-Ra and Osul-Ra, specifically as a metaphor for transracial/transethnic adoption.
Clark's relationship with the twins is built throughout the Warworld saga, and does not start... great (they discuss looting his corpse lol), and often they. But Clark understands that the kids are traumatized, and seeks to guide them to a better situation.
Now I would be irresponsible to not mention that, during this time, Clark is still struggling with Jon's age up. He mumbles, disoriented during their first meeting, that the kids are the same age as his son (no they are not). In a less tightly written book by a worse writer, it'd be a thing where Clark completely uncritically finds 'replacement kids' in the twins... Which is NOT what happens here, because PKJ is the GOAT.
In the end, his relationship with the twins is built not only independently of his struggles with Jon, but the way he connects with them helps Clark realize that whats done is done. They need him to be Clark, not a man hanging onto the past he will never get back. To move forward, they must do it together, it won't work if the twins remain on Warworld and he remains mentally in Hamilton. Its why it is SUPER important, also, that in the end, Clark doesn't ask them to come with him- rather, they ask to go with Clark.
(Sidenote: The twins lost not only their parents on warworld, but an older brother, too. Clark isn't the only one who finds a healing way forward via the Ra-El relationships, but that's gonna be another post!) And their hero names, Red Son and Starchild, are from their original culture (the Phaelosians), a culture that was systematically robbed from them when Warworld trafficked them into service. Rather than forcing them to conform to the house of El and their legacy, they help the kids reconnect.
These are his children. They found each other in the scariest place in the universe, and together, they find a way past the things they've both suffered through.
I'm afraid I don't know much about Kara (kara mutuals, reading recs appreciated! i've only ever read WOT and a few issues of the most recent Supergirl run) but I do know that her relationship to Clark is inherently different than it was supposed to be, and she has to roll with it and redefine it accordingly. She was supposed to be older than him, be able to take care of him, but by the time she actually finds him, he's the one doing that for her.
(I dont really have a panel here I fear, so look at the pretty art from Woman of Tomorrow. If someone wants to say more on Kara, you're welcome to hijack my post for a bit!)
Kenan is an example of this theme going kind of sideways and being examined from another angle- He's forced to choose between his two found families, and with either choice, he stands to lose something. Either his connection to Superman, or his connection to home:
Kenan already has a messy relationship with family, considering the soap opera level drama his parents inflict on him in his solo. Now, separated from his culture by circumstances he can't control, Kenan's relationship with the Superfam is forced by circumstance, even as it isn't unwanted. He's forced to make the most of what he has.
Then you have Clark and Jon, where the 'and define your relationship to them' part of my thematic statement REALLY becomes important.
I've seen it argued many times that giving Jon the Superman mantle weakens the theme of found family, but I'd argue it strengthens it, because Jon not having a choice in becoming Superman is EXPLICITLY framed as a bad thing.
Jon's not ready to be Superman. He doesn't even really WANT to be superman. But because of the circumstances of his birth, the world, and his father, push him into it. Clark never asked Jon to be Superman, during the Son-of-kal-el + Warworld era. He assumed he would be.
It tarnishes Clark & Jon's relationship, actively preventing Jon from connecting with his father and the WORLD fully in the way they both want. This is a key theme of Superman: Son of Kal El, from the very moment of Jon's actual birth:
All throughout post-age up Jon is the idea that Jon is just as burdened by the expectations placed upon him by his blood as he is comforted by what the mantle represents.
(I know I use this panel like every analysis but its a GOOD PANEL, SHUT UP) And there's of course the fact that... y'know. Well. Y'know.
Y'KNOW.
I think there's a potentially strong story in either Jon walking away from the mantle entirely, or redefining it to be his own. But first, he's going to have to suffer for the fact he wasn't ready for what many people call his DESTINY, including his abuser.
And where does this leave Jon and Clark?
Here.
The last note before Absolute Power of these two is this bittersweet moment where Jon still isn't fully heard. Where he still doesn't get a full say in what he and Clark's relationship will be. And judging by THIS interview from Mark Waid, this particular idea is about to finally come home to roost:
Lastly, there's of course the Most Found Family Thing Of All that i basically see NO one talk about: The fact that the Irons and the Kents just. Share all their big life events with each other. They're literally not related to each other by blood at all, but throughout PKJ's Action Comics, they ARE family!
Teamwork makes the dreamwork guys!
The superfamily is a wonderfully diverse cluster of relationships and examinations of the way family finds each other. Even moreso than the Batfam, which is often defined by their father-son relationship with Bruce in fanon, the Superfam displays a wide array of the various ways non-nuclear families can build each other.
This is all to say you guys should read PKJ's action comics run. It rules.
(This is also to say Superman 2016 sucks ass.)
#This post could be much longer! Lonnie Byers
why he is far more significant in Stranger Things than we are led to believe...
“The scariest monsters are human beings and what we will do to each other.”
This post is very much inspired by @/kaypeace21's post on Lonnie from 2021. Just so you guys know, kaypeace21 theorized Byler LONG before most of us. She has a pretty good track record for predicting aspects of Stranger Things. This post will include some of her brilliant finds and will add even more evidence that was introduced to us in ST4 and TFS.
Warning: this post discusses some VERY dark and mature themes. I will allude to dark stuff at first but will leave the darkest stuff below the cut.
CW: Ab*se, CSA, substance use, DV...
The name Lonnie (nickname of Lawrence/Laurence) has two specific relevant meanings:
Lion and Oak tree. x
(Some symbolism examples: Nancy compares the Demogorgon (also titled: Deep Father) to a lion in ST1. In ST3, Holly notices trees (what looks like oak trees...) and looks frightened.)
For every mention of trees and predatory cats/lions I will add 🌳and 🦁 emojis respectively.
Keep both of these in mind as both predatory animals/cats and (creepy) trees are common occurrences within Stranger Things. I will touch on both of these throughout the post.
Anyway, lets start with the surface level stuff we know then I'll touch more on the darker subtext.
So, who is Lonnie Byers?
When we first hear the name Lonnie, he is brought up as a potential suspect by Hopper in Will's disappearance.
Joyce is quick to dismiss him as a suspect but does give us some important information about his character:
Lonnie "used to say [Will] was queer. Called him a fag." Whether or not he would say this to Will's face... he's obviously, not a great guy or father.
Joyce and Lonnie are divorced. She hadn't heard from him in about a year.
He doesn't like cops.
In The First Shadow, we actually learn that this is not the first time Lonnie is seen as a suspect in a case. (spoilers in next paragraph)
Lonnie was mistaken for Victor Creel and he was investigated for the animal murders by Hopper. This was not just a random choice, remember, Lonnie's name means Lion as in the predatory animal 🦁. Jonathan also told us that Lonnie made him hunt rabbits. This is a major hint! So, Victor Creel is innocent, and near the end of the play, Henry tells Joyce that she's so close yet so far from the truth (I'm paraphrasing). He's absolutely right though, the truth was right under her nose but unfortunately she doesn't see it (yet).
The fact that they made a very obvious comparison of Lonnie Byers to Victor Creel, the suspected murderer of his entire family... lets just say... it tells us A LOT.
Anyway, back to learning about Lonnie in season 1.
Joyce tries to reach out to Lonnie about Will, but is unsuccessful. He doesn't pick up the phone. His girlfriend does and says he's unavailable.
In a flashback, we hear Joyce and Lonnie argue about Lonnie not coming to play baseball with Will. She says she's "so sick of [his] excuses" which obviously means he has frequently made false promises/let Will down. He obviously does not prioritize Will.
To further prove that point, we later literally see him close Will off as he hammers wood right in the entry way for Will to return. The comic about Will's time in the UD gives a heartbreaking look into Will's POV. He cries to his father to not shut him out, but Lonnie ignores Will's cries...
Paralleling El's flashback to when Papa locked her in the dark room and ignored her cries... (the existence of that scene and many other flashbacks with El and Papa make me strongly believe that El's memories of Papa are altered version of Will's memories of Lonnie... I won't go into that much though in this post).
Just look at that obvious bright light in the closet behind Lonnie. Same light Will stared at prior to vanishing… That accompanied with El’s flashback of being locked in a room alone, paints a rather grin image. He’s trying to shut Will out.
Just from these clues so far, he’s not a good father.
To stay or to go…
(a bear (Will) vs. a tree branch 🌳)
If you pay close attention, you’ll see many references to this song within the show… and they even specifically made the association between a father and son when Steve called Dustin “dad”. Which father and son pair are the most associated with the song? Will and Lonnie… as that song first played in the scene where Lonnie tells Joyce he won’t be taking Will to baseball practice.
We can tell from these moments (and more) that dad wants Will to stay put and not go anywhere. We even have Dustin (the one symbolizing “dad”) telling Will to “get back here… I’m going to kill you.” Those were also the last words spoken to Will before he vanished. This is significant.
Suspicious Evidence...
When we see Jonathan visit Lonnie's looking for Will, there's a small bike behind him.
We know Will left his bike in the forest 🌳 when he vanished. Why does Lonnie have a child's bike?
Demogorgon also means "The Deep Father". I talk more about this here. Will is telling Mike in code that his father "got [him]".
Joyce is yelling at "Papa" that he took her son away.
The line of God (aka a father) taking "someone so young, so innocent" at Will's funeral with the focus on Lonnie.
In TFS (spoiler), Lonnie admits to stealing baby Jesus from the Nativity scene.
(GIF credit to @/kaypeace)
This specific shot tells us what we need to know. Lonnie is responsible for Will's disappearance. He is hammering the nail in the wall and it directly cuts to Mike representing the gate being opened with a pencil and paper. Lonnie is the reason the gate opened in the first place! Now, when I say that I don’t mean he literally opened the gate, I mean that the a*use he inflicted onto Will had caused all the monsters within the show and the creation of the Upside Down. Bold claim to make, I know… but bare with me here. As I will now go into the darker clues…
Lonnie's "Type"
Joyce refers to Lonnie's girlfriend as a "teenager". This is significant! Because (spoiler for TFS), Lonnie dated Joyce when he was 25 and she was 17!
This is a pattern for him. He not only preys on animals 🦁, he preys on teenagers... and it gets even worse.
Look, the implications here are, unfortunately, very clear. We see Lonnie look at Jonathan walking away, then he looks down at the photo of Will with the dialogue "He's kinda cute, hmm?"
"Maybe I'll trade you in for the younger model?" is said while Lonnie looks in Jonathan's direction.
Trading someone for someone younger. He likes them young.
He is a predator. You may not want to believe the truth here but as we know with this show... everything is intentional.
Let’s continue on with even more disturbing clues…
When Joyce and Hopper find Will in the UD, he is in a library (a place of archives, of documented history) And he appears like this...
He's being violated... by the vines. Vines, that grow on trees. 🌳Lonnie means oak tree... This is a representation of documented history that he had been se*ually assaulted by... the tree with vines... Lonnie. Also if you look into the full lyrics of “Should I Stay or Should I Go”… let’s just stay it’s disturbing how that song is associated with a young boy and his father…
Also... keep in mind that the vines are preventing Will from speaking. Will is being silenced as well.
Next season we see the MF force itself into Will. Again, another violation, this time by the MF (yes- the mother fucker, that is what Lonnie is after all). This was done on a field. A baseball field. We know Lonnie is associated with baseball.
And again, the MF (father) is silencing Will...
In this scene in ST3, we get yet another reference to Will being violated in the past. We are shown a flashback of the MF possessing Will, and we are given the comparison of non-consensual sex and the gate/door opening. We know this due to the term “penetration” being used in relation to opening the gate…
Murray states "the door had been opened once" while we are shown Joyce with a look of horror on her face. "It was still healing", as experiencing that does require a lot of healing.
“Larry the construction guy”. Larry is a nickname for Laurence. Lonnie is another nickname for Laurence. This line by Jonathan has multiple meanings.
Lonnie is in Will's head.
“Stuck up your nose”. Lonnie is, again, represented as violating Will.
When Jonathan confronts Lonnie we can see this Evil Dead poster behind them. Not only is it very visible but… Lonnie draws attention to it. This poster is significant! This woman is being attacked and choked by a tree. 🌳 The tree goes inside her… it violates her.
Lonnie wants Jonathan to take down the poster. This is important. He wants Jonathan to stay silent. More on this later…
If this isn’t enough symbolism to convince you, check out kaypeace21’s post where she goes in even more depth around the music/musicians Jonathan references, and even more background details that add to this. They intentionally painted the picture of him being a s*xual a*user, as the existence of all these clues all add up to the same conclusion. A very uncomfortable truth.
Dad, you’re choking me
Speaking of being choked, ever notice how this is something that seems to occur frequently within the show?
That Mike and Ted moment in particular stands out because it occurs right after the Jonathan and Lonnie confrontation with that Evil Dead poster in the background (being choked by a tree 🌳)… so the “dad” doing the choking here is absolutely Lonnie.
Yet another case of being silenced as well...
The Trunk
Probably the most concerning moment to many on the surface. Remember how “dad” said “don’t go… anywhere” and the symbolism of him shutting Will out? Well, let’s just say that it’s not a stretch to think he put Will in a trunk before.
It’s also worth noting that when Billy opens the trunk to see a tied up Heather we get a flashback of him choking her. This William is likely replaying the ab*se Will went through… he was possessed by the MF (father) after all.
Also, remember in ST2 they tied Will up and he shouted several times “why am I tied up?” Yeah… Also all those being suffocated references…
Substance Use
While everyone can struggle with substance use and it doesn’t make them a bad person, the use of substances causes the lowering of inhibition. “Lowering inhibitions means reducing restraints against behaviors that might normally seem inappropriate, dangerous, or taboo.” x This is why people under the influence of alcohol, and harder drugs can become more aggressive and a*usive.
When we see Lonnie's house, we see many cans of beer. We also see him drinking while he visits Joyce. He also encourages Joyce to drink too to help her "think straight". Hmm... strange choice of words I must say.
Now, I don’t think Lonnie just has an alcohol problem, I think he also has a stimulant use disorder. Stimulant = drugs like cocaine and crystal meth.
Kaypeace21's post goes into the details of the possible crystal meth use and how when Will was possessed by the MF, he was showing symptoms of a child on this specific substance (sweating, trembling, seizures, etc).
Another stimulant use reference, but cocaine this time. Remember Larry = Laurence = Lonnie.
There are many subtle references to drug use throughout the entire show from Papa forcibly injecting Terry Ives, El, Henry etc, to Reefer Rick and Eddie and plenty more.
Although we don't have much information on this, I think it is implied that Lonnie is a drug user. Not only does this mean that his impulses were less inhibited, but this also puts into question the possibility of further neglect. The Byers are not rich by any means, and if Lonnie is so focused on obtaining substances... that leaves barely any money for anything else.
"He made me do it…"
So as Jonathan told us, Lonnie made him kill a rabbit. The lion 🦁 forcing his offsprings (lion cubs) to hunt and kill, just like him.
This is something we have seen quite frequently within the show:
El being forced to harm a cat by Papa
Henry being forced to harm a rabbit while influenced by the MF (father)
(In TFS) Henry being pressured to harm animals by Papa
Will saying "He made me do it" in reference to the monsters attacking (he being the MF = father)
Billy saying "He made me do it" (again he being the MF = father)
D'art killing Mews
What's interesting to note is the fact that many characters are associated with rabbits and/or other small animals.
This likely also connects with the reoccurring theme of survivor's guilt within the show. Specifically, of the survivor blaming themselves for the death of others.
Max blaming herself for Billy's death
Mike blaming himself for El's death
El blaming herself for the death of the lab kids
Nancy blaming herself for Barb’s death
Lonnie forced Will to cause harm and/or blamed Will for the harm caused. We know how Will is, he's incredibly sensitive. This absolutely would weigh on his conscience.
Where’s mom in all of this?
We know she has been working a lot, but there could also be something else going on here. Could the allusions to her mental health issues come into play here as well? It's possible...
During "the source" scene with Billy's memories, Billy cries out because his mother is gone. Keep in mind, Billy's memories parallel Will's A LOT (the baseball, father calling him a "pussy"... etc), and the song "William" plays during this whole sequence.
It is likely that Joyce was separated (or emotionally distant) from Will for some time in the past...
Domestic a*use
To make the assumption that Will had witnessed DV between his parents would not be a stretch. We have already seen Lonnie and Joyce fight and it was not pretty.
We also see Billy's father slap his mom hard in the face (like I said, Billy's memories parallel Will's memories...)
We also have seen Lonnie gaslight Joyce already, trying to make her think she's "crazy" and we've seen them fight about Will and finances. This was no stable household for a young child...
Fear of the Truth
It isn’t discussed enough, but there’s a reoccurring theme of the fear of telling the truth. And no this isn’t just about coming out of the closet.
This is especially true when it comes to telling mom the truth.
El repeatedly preventing the boys from telling Mike’s mom what’s going on… specifically about the “bad men”. She fears the repercussions (demonstrating a gun pointed to her head… implying a threat… “I’m gonna kill you!”).
Mike and Nancy unable to tell their own mother what’s going on with them.
Jonathan unable to tell Joyce about “what’s going on with [him]”.
Lonnie telling Jonathan to take down the poster showing a*use and telling him to “behave” for his mother’s sake… he’s trying to silence Jonathan…
Nancy telling Mike “no more secrets”
Joyce telling Will he needs to talk to her (about what happened with the MF)
Dustin hiding D’art from his mother/the kids in general hiding the supernatural stuff from their parents
Billy unable to explain to Karen what had happened to him
Max telling Billy he needs to talk in the sauna scene
and plenty more…
Will frequently communicates in a code. We see this several times:
"It was a seven, the demogorgon got me"
Communicating through the lights
Drawing pictures instead of talking/explaining
Morse code
"Sometimes it can be scary to open up like that. To say how you really feel. Especially to people you care about the most. Because what if... what if they don't like the truth?"
The painting itself
The painting speech... using "El" instead of himself
Usually a*use of a child is not immediately obvious. Parents often think that they will immediately know if their child has been a*used, but often, the signs stay hidden. Remember that most kids are a*used by adults they know. X
Some of the common reasons why child stay silent:
They worry about being blamed, or mistakenly believe they caused the abuse.
Their a*user has threatened them in some way.
They know and maybe even feel close to their a*user and don't want to hurt them.
They think no one will believe them or help them.
Babies and children under 5 years old—who make up nearly 40% of maltreated kids—may not have the words to explain what happened to them, making it difficult or even impossible for them to ask for help. X
This is just important information that everyone needs to know. Child a*use isn’t obvious, the kid may even seem alright with spending time with their a*user… this does not mean the a*use doesn’t exist. That is a very harmful claim to make.
When it comes to a*use, especially child a*use, we must be vigilant. Because the child likely won’t tell us but they will show us the signs.
Some signs to look out for:
Any sudden, continued change in behavior.
increased anxiety
unexplained injuries x
Repressed memories
I’m just going to outright say it: the NINA plot line is important because it tells us a lot about repressed traumatic memories.
“Our brains have a defence mechanism in place to protect it from bad memories. You buried these memories long ago.”
Then in the last episode of ST4, we learn something VERY telling about Will.
Remember… Larry = Laurence = Lonnie.
They basically told us that Will only vaguely remembers Lonnie. This is an incredibly important clue to what Will is going through. Will’s trauma was so intense that he has been repressing the memories of his own father.
In ST5, this is absolutely going to be an important aspect to his arc and to the story as a whole. Will must come face-to-face with his traumatic past. Unlocking those memories will be key to finally defeating the monsters for good.
The Destroyer of Worlds
So, I’ve mentioned this many times before, but Will is compared to “Little Boy” the first atomic bomb. (Click here and here for posts about it).
He is a bomb that went off on Nov 6, 1983, freezing time, and forever changing Hawkins. J. Robert Oppenheimer was the creator of the real atomic bomb, and he was known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb.” He was also known as “The Destroyer of Worlds”. Because Will is “Little Boy” and Lonnie is his father…
Lonnie is The Destroyer of Worlds. A perfect term for someone who inflicted such horror onto an innocent child. Because trauma like this has an incredibly profound effect on a young mind, in more ways than you can imagine. His actions are the catalyst for the chain reaction of this entire show. He pushed over that very first domino.
Why is all of this evidence so hidden? Why do we barely know anything about Will’s past with Lonnie? Because… instead of telling us his past, they’ve been showing it to us through the horrors. You have to look very deeply into the show to see the truth start to add up like a puzzle. There are many themes that reoccur/are alluded to within the show for a reason. And it’s all from one single source.
Demogorgon is The Deep Father, MF is the mother fucker (father), Papa is father, and it was Vecna’s father who was convicted of the murders.
It was father this whole time.

Will's Blood Transfusion Dilemma
Will is going to be injured and in need of a blood transfusion.
It's revealed in TFS that Henry's blood type changed after he got lost in Dimension X for 12 hours. His blood was then used to replicate his powers through blood transfusions. It's pretty clear that Will's blood type is also different because he went through an identical experience to Henry.
The Flayed were also given powers through Mind Flayer blood type changes, which looks very similar to Will's s1 predicament. Later, they have black blood flowing through their veins. That's the special power blood.
Alright so Will has the Flayed blood type that Henry also has. So what?
Well there are multiple signs about blood donations at the end of s4 which are likely foreshadowing someone needing a blood transfusion in s5. At the same time, they're going to have to introduce the concept of different blood types AND make Will aware that he has the special blood type. But there's a way to do all three at once.
Will is going to be severely injured.
In the blood donation screenshot, the arrow is pointing outside. Earlier on, we see the tent (red and white stripes) for blood donations and then it transitions directly to... Will. Along with the ominous caption of death toll numbers rising. Hm. Blood donations... death toll... Will.
The camera also pans to Mike after we see Will. Is this possibly foreshadowing Will sacrificing himself to save Mike?
There's another blaring blood donation sign in the hospital. "Be a hero, give blood." Will is practically shining in the spotlight in this scene. Everyone else, El, Mike, Lucas, even Max, are wearing blue clothes in a very blue hospital room. Will is wearing yellow. He stands out against blue because they're complimentary colors. We are meant to focus on him. The sign is yellow too. They're linked!
Will is also awkwardly lingering in the back of El and Lucas' hug for no apparent reason. In the second image, it looks like he's looking directly at the blood donation sign. Will’s general aura is off-putting in this scene. He's just standing there... MENACINGLY. So I feel like this strange behavior is linked to something hospital related.
Now into the grit of this theory. At some point in s5, Will is going to get hurt, likely in a self-sacrificial nature, and lose a lot of blood. This will pose a dilemma for our characters because he can't undergo a regular blood transfusion because he doesn't have normal blood. They'll have to find a way to get Will more of the special blood FAST to save his life. But how?
There are a few possibilities. The most interesting possibility, in my opinion, has to do with El. El has the special blood too. The lab gave her blood before starting NINA (see here). So El may need to donate her blood to Will.
The sign we see in the hospital has a pretty good hint at this. "Be a hero, give blood." El is constantly referred to as a hero. She could be the hero donating blood! This is hammered in as Lucas is describing how Max was brought back to life by a miracle, who we know was El. They practically zoom in towards the sign during these lines. She might need to bring someone back to life again.
This would be the quickest solution... but it may come at a cost. We know that the Mind Flayer sucked Henry's blood out of El in s3 and this made her lose her powers. It's possible that El donating her blood to Will could take her powers away. She'll have to make a choice between her powers and her brother's life.
This would cover all the bases. The different blood type, Will having said blood type, and the origin of the powers.
There is an issue with this part of the theory, though. El would need to get her powers back again. She'd have to venture back to the lab to get more of Henry's blood that I'm almost 100% certain they have stored. This would be repetitive considering she spent the entirety of s4 trying to get them back, and there's no way she's ending the show without her powers. That's just not what her arc is about.
BUT it's possible that El's blood transfusion won't take away her powers. El could still be the donator without sacrificing her own abilities. This would make El's donation foreshadowing work without being repetitive if she can give just enough to save him and her powers.
I'll still go over the other possibilities to be safe:
Instead of doing double El transfusions, they could go directly to the source. They get to the lab, find the blood, and save Will that way. But this would take too long. If Will is truly under dire circumstances, he won't have time to wait around for them to find more blood.
So... what if they go to the source source: the Mind Flayer slash Vecna. Let's say the injury occurs in the Upside Down. At that point, it may be faster to get it straight from the source instead of running around trying to find El.
We know the Mind Flayer/Vecna wants Will alive. So if Will intercepted an attack from one of them because they were going to hurt someone he cares about, it would ruin whatever plan Vecna has for Will. Vecna would be forced to give Will the blood himself to keep him alive.
Will needing an abnormal blood transfusion would also play into the AIDS metaphor that's very present in his storyline. If Will goes to the hospital before knowing about his special blood type, he may encounter the homophobic stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS because of his condition and the town's assumption of his sexuality. That would bring this narrative string from a metaphor to a literal commentary.
Oh and while I was typing this post there was an (apparent) casting call for a nurse with hematology experience. You know, the study of blood disorders. Well there you have it!
So yeah. Will seems like a big contender for the blood donation receiver that's foreshadowed at the end of s4. What kind of injury I’m not sure, but it has to be BIG and BLOODY. Good luck out there, son.

Why “Hiding in the Light” Didn’t Work: Stranger Things’ Psychospiritual Implications
Supplementary Sources: Jungian Theory & A Wrinkle In Time
Alright, buckle in. I’m running on a year’s worth of spiritual awakening, deep dives into Jungian theory and non-dualism, and my own ego’s primary coping mechanism: immersing myself in media as escapism. The purpose of this analysis is to break down the themes of non-dualism and light/darkness in ST (and maybe predict some character arcs), and also to position the narrative of ST as a psychospiritual wake-up call.
For some context: last year, I discovered the work of psychoanalyst (or philosopher, depending on who you’re talking to) Carl Jung. He had a pretty extensive theory about the human psyche that I immediately connected to the themes throughout Stranger Things, specifically Vecna’s mind control and curse. I’m going to break Jung’s theory down as succinctly as I can, and then delve into how it plays out in our favorite gay monster show.
But before I delve into Jung’s ideas, I also think it’s important to define selfhood (you’ll understand why in a minute). For the purposes of this analysis, the experience of the “self” is an illusion created by our senses, perceptions, memories, and consciousness, all of which are impermanent. Therefore, the self is what we call “conditioned.” There is no you or me, just the ideas we have of ourselves.
Now, we can get into Jung’s theory. He posited the following:
1. Every individual has a “persona” they show the world (a constructed self) to feel like they belong. Underneath this persona, everyone has a personal “shadow,” or the part of themselves they don’t want to acknowledge. This shadow is always projected onto others— every negative thought we have about someone else is a product of our own unintegrated shadow. Note: The shadow is NOT bad, it just “is.” It’s actually there to HELP us grow and integrate all the unhealed parts of us.
2. Individuals’ shadows are usually part of their unconscious, meaning most people are not aware of their shadow side or cannot bear to delve into their trauma/darkness and begin to heal it.
3. All of human consciousness is CONNECTED. This means two things. 1: There is a “collective unconsciousness” that contains the sum of all of our unintegrated trauma, and 2: We can heal our collective unconsciousness by healing our own unconsciousness.
How do we heal our own unconsciousness? By becoming AWARE of our shadow side, accepting and forgiving the conditioning that created it, and working to encourage others to do the same.
What— or rather, who— does that remind you of?
Also— great use of lighting here.
We know Vecna has direct access to his victims’ consciousness; not just their memories, cognition, and emotions, but also their awareness itself. This is how he’s able to target and trance people. But it’s not just their consciousness Vecna has access to; it’s their unconsciousness. Their shadow. Their trauma. Yes, he has psionic abilities akin to El’s, but as far as we know, El can’t access the collective unconsciousness like Vecna can. She is only capable of “remote viewing” via the void or piggybacking into people’s minds. So why is Vecna capable of this?
If you want my take on it: the only way to access a collective shadow would be through accessing your own shadow. So is Vecna really Henry, or his unintegrated shadow? And is either really condemnable, considering the larger themes of the show?
We see this theme of non-dualism echoed in Brenner’s NINA pep talk with El:
It’s fascinating to me that they’re communicating these bigger thematic ideas through the show’s “villians”— while the above conversation could be taken at surface-level as Brenner being manipulative, it’s important to acknowledge the truth of what he’s saying. NINA is only successful because El faces “the good and the bad.” This is why “hiding in the light” is a no-go for Max.
Focusing only on happy memories is a form of emotional bypassing. Throughout the show, we’ve been told time and again that hiding doesn’t work. Neither does running away. The only way out for our characters is through their own shadows.
Now, the fun part: predictions. Looking at all of this with a Jungian lens, it doesn’t make much sense to villianize a character or to end the story by “defeating evil.” In non-dual theory, there are no evil people, only unhealed ones.
We know what worked for our characters temporarily (Will in the UD, Max in her first trance, El using her powers against Vecna) was the memory and vibration of love.
This reminded me of A Wrinkle In Time, which is a science fiction novel that’s been noted more than a few times as one of Stranger Things’ primary influences. In the book, a girl and her brother travel through time to rescue their father from an alternate dimension where all beings are controlled in a hyper-individualist suburbia by a giant, all-knowing brain. The climactic “defeat” of the brain is shockingly simple, but incredible impactful— Meg, the heroine, tells it over and over that she loves it. This love ultimately brings her father and brother out of trances they are in, and they’re able to remember her and travel back home.
(Tangent: And God. The implications of that, outside of analyzing ST, are powerful. How do we live in a capitalist hellscape that is so caught up in the mind— in acheiving, obtaining, securing, protecting the ego— that many of us have forgotten our hearts? The answer is love. Loving ourselves more deeply to love all beings more deeply, “the good and the bad.” But love does not negate accountability, and it does not excuse harm.)
Our characters are all struggling with self-acceptance and self-love in some form or another. Each is wrestling with secrets and lies, and the desire to hide parts of themselves they think others can’t accept.
Mike is clearly struggling with self-loathing, guilt surrounding what happened to El in s1, and a crippling hero complex.
Will is also on the self-loathing train, continually self-sacrifices to his own detriment, and is hiding his identity out of fear (not at all villifying that, just for the record.)
El struggled to reconcile her abilities and forced weaponization with her identity outside of the lab pre-s4.
Max was suicidal and had a lot of self-hatred after B*lly’s death.
Nancy parallels Mike in her survivor’s guilt post-s1 and exhibits the same lack of self-preservation and self-sacrificing tendencies.
You get my point. So how will these characters overcome their trauma? Not through hiding, or running, or bypassing. Not through the light alone. Through love— acknowledgement of their own darkness, compassion for the unhealed nature of others, and commitment to being honest with themselves and their loved ones. We know Will is El and Henry’s mirror/foil and will play a central role in S5, and with all of this in mind I think it’s safe to say he will break the cycle of bypassing and hiding from trauma and pain once and for all. He won’t fight it like El, hide from it like Max, or run from it like he did as a kid.
Only by integrating their shadows can our characters become truly “themselves,” or as Brenner puts it, “whole.”
I will probably have much more to say about this after my re-read of A Wrinkle in Time, but for now, that’s all I’ve got. :) Hope everyone is doing well!

If I Should Stay
Part 1 | . . . | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9
After pizza—and after El wakes up and eats her own pizza—everyone gathers around again to listen to Steve and Robin. “So I think by now we’ve proven we’re from the future,” Steve says. “We’re here, four years in the past, because a lot of bad things happen, and if we can, we’d like to stop those things from happening. The big one, and really the recurring problem, is a guy named Henry Creel who essentially took control of an alternate plane of existence we call the Upside Down.” He motions El over beside him, and she goes gladly, tucking her feet up onto the couch as she leans into his side, trusting him to hold her up. He does, sliding a protective arm around her shoulders as he says, “He’s also One.”
He watches as one by one the lightbulbs come on. “Oh, shit,” Dustin whispers, and Steve doesn’t even call him on it, just nods.
“Beyond Henry, though, there are creatures in the Upside Down that can and will kill you.” He rolls his eyes fondly at the boys. “For some inexplicable reason, you came up the names, so they’re called demogorgons, demodogs, and demobats. Demogorgons are what took Barb and Will, but they both got away. That doesn’t mean they’re safe, though. Like El said earlier, Barb was safe in the moment, but it’s still a very dangerous place. There are vines everywhere that are connected to a hive mind. You step on one, and Henry knows you’re there.”
He continues telling the story, Robin interrupting when there’s a detail he misses. It’s silent when they finish. Finally, El speaks up. “So, it is… my fault?”
“No, El,” Steve says softly. “None of this is your fault. Things out of your control happened that made you who you are. Those same things created all of this.”
El frowns. “So I am bad? Like One? Like the Upside Down?”
“No,” Mike says sharply. “You’re good, El.”
“He’s right,” Steve murmurs. “You made yourself good.” He pokes her arm teasingly, and she smiles, leaning back into him.
Steve looks around, catches Nancy’s eye, and sighs. “Nance? A word?”
“Steve?” Robin asks.
He shakes his head. “I’ll yell if I need you,” he promises, rubbing her head as he passes. She squawks and bats his hand away.
“Asshole,” she mutters, and he laughs as he disappears down the hallway, Nancy in tow.
They end up in a room Steve thinks was meant to be a study. “You have questions.”
“Understatement of the century. There’s just one that’s really bugging me, though.”
“Us?”
“Yeah.”
Steve sighs and leans against the wall. “On Halloween, Tina throws a party. We didn’t know what we do now, about the Upside Down, and you were still looking for her. I was an asshole, self-centered and unhelpful.” He blows out a breath, crosses his arms, and looks away. “You got drunk, called me, and my love for you, bullshit. Left. I tried to talk to you the next day at school about it and you couldn’t say you loved me. I was still hopeful. I’m a romantic at heart, y’know? I thought maybe if I could be everything you needed, if I changed enough, if, if, if…” he shakes his head. “So we stayed together. I tried. You slept with Jonathan Byers, then broke up with me.”
Nancy looks horrified. “Steve-”
He shakes his head. “I made my peace with it. And maybe this makes me an asshole, I dunno, but Nance, I can’t go back. We’re okay, we’re friends, but I can’t pretend I still have feelings for you. I’m sorry, but we both know I was just convenient for you.”
Nancy takes a breath. “So that’s it?”
Steve shrugs helplessly. “I don’t know what you want me to do. I tried and got my heart broken for it. I moved on, found someone I think I can really be happy with, without changing who I am. And for the record? It gets rocky for a second, but I think you and Byers are it, too.” He smirks. “Plus Mike likes him better than me.”
Nancy rolls her eyes. “Oh, well, if Mike likes him better…” they both laugh, and she looks at him. “No more feelings?”
He shakes his head. “We make much better friends.”
Nancy grins lopsidedly. “And Robin?”
Steve snorts. “Purely platonic, I promise. Neither of us want anything else with each other.”
Nancy looks at him then. Studies him. “You’ve been through some shit,” she decides. “But you look happy.”
He smiles. “I am, for the most part. I know who I am.”

so i was js scrolling thru ur page and i wanted to know if you have any good starter comics abt the superfam ?
oh do i have some recs for you, my friend.
i’ve already answered for kara here and made a jon reading guide here.
now onto my boy clark:
superman: birthright - it’s an origin story. great way to get introduced to the superman universe;
superman: the secret years - it’s a more old comics, but still great. revolves around clark’s college years;
superman: kryptonite - clark’s first encounter with kryptonite;
action comics by greg pak - it’s during the new 52 era. you can skip the unnecessary crossovers and just read his individual arcs - “action comics (2011) #25 - 29, 35 - 40”);
superman: man of tomorrow - hero of metropolis - low stakes. slice of life. great vibes. great way to get introduced to a few superman villains;
superman by kurt busiek and geoff johns. reading guide here;
the warworld saga by phillip kennedy johnson. my favourite superman story ever;
superman smashes the klan. it’s a great story.
if you want to read superman comics chronologically, here you can find great starting points.
it’s a bit more complicated with lois because she is a second main character for a lot of clark’s stories, but doesn’t have her own titles very often (which is a shame because she’s great!). you’d get a pretty good idea of who she is from the superman recs, but during 2019, greg rucka wrote a comic with her as the main character - “lois lane (2019)” so i’d recommend checking that out. you can also check “supermans’s pal jimmy olsen (2019)” as well. it doesn’t have lois, but it has jimmy and he’s pretty cool.
note: both kon-el and john henry irons debuted during “reign of the superman” storyline.
as for kon, i haven’t read much of his comics, but he had a solo in the 90s and he’s a prominent member of the young justice comics so i’d recommend checking “superboy (1994)” and “young justice (1998)”. he also had a mini recently - “superboy: the man of tomorrow”.
as for john and nat, john also had an ongoing in the 90s - “steel (1994)”. nat was a main character during “52”. not sure if i’d recommend her story in that one though. but you can check it out and see if you like it. after that, she was in “infinity inc. (2007)” which is a follow up to her 52 storyline and again, not sure how much i recommend it. as far as i know, nat was also in the titans for a bit - “titans (2016) #23 - 36”. i’m yet to read it though so i’m not sure if it’s good. recently, there was a miniseries called “steelworks (2023)” and it was really good. both john and nat are main characters.
lana, same as lois, unfortunately doesn’t have that many solos. she was great during greg pak’s action comics run. and she had a solo during rebirth - “superwoman (2016)” that heavily featured john henry as well.
kenan debuted during the rebirth era and had a solo - “new super-man (2016)” and that’s pretty much it. he also had a two-part back up story in action comics #1058 - 1059 that explained how he joined the family.
as for lois and clark’s kids (that aren’t jon), you’ll find out more about chris during kurt busiek and geoff johns’ era and more about otho and osul during the warworld saga.
that’s all i’ve got. there are more superfamily members, but those are the once i feel confident giving recs for.

holly wheeler - who/what are you? an informal post about all of the holly oddities I've discovered so far.
where do I even begin with this one? I'm just going to jump into it and show you all the weird connections I've found that mostly relate to holly-el/jane, holly-alice and holly-sarah. I have no real conclusions so far so I invite everyone to take a look and share their thoughts.
oddity one: the hair
All four are blonde girls, and three have pigtails or twin braids, reminiscent of rabbit ears.
oddity two: the rabbits
terry ives' home, inside what should have been jane ives' room:
holly wheeler and her rabbit lite-brite:
alice creel and the dead rabbit:
And why the rabbits? Well, they're all a reference to Alice in Wonderland. The first rabbit in the painting in Jane's room is just literally the rabbit from AIW, fitted with a pocketwatch.
Alice in Wonderland:
Just check out #whiterabbitgate for more on the two above, the song 'White Rabbit' is also connected to El and just general HNL activities.
The Rainbows:
(above is the Terry Ives flashback from season two)
Holly's outfit in Season 5 is incredibly colourful and there are at least 3 different rainbow items inside her room.
The Flowers:
^ Holly even has yellow red and blue flowers on her bicycle basket.
My questions have already been: why is Vecna/Henry seemingly interested in her enough to not only lure her but continue 'playing' with her for multiple scenes? Why is Holly suddenly relevant?
I'm also a BTVS fan, and the idea of a younger sister suddenly introduced had me thinking of Dawn. Dawn was Buffy's younger sister introduced suddenly in Season 5 (literally out of nowhere) - until it turned out that she wasn't a fully real person, but a powerful energy turned into a human that was sent to the Summers' house where they would protect her. She never existed until she was fourteen, but they all believed she had with false memories. Furthermore, she becomes the target of that season's villain which Buffy has to protect.
So then we get to Holly's room:
Most notably for this post are ALF and the 'A Royal Pain' book. Let me just show you the plot summaries for both, starting with ALF:
I initially thought the ALF reference was just a reference to El (and it very much could be a dual thing). But considering the strangeness.... and the parallels that are coming to light between them.
A Royal Pain:
There has already been baby-switch precedent in the show. In fact it's a major theory about Jane Ives and El - that they aren't the same child. But when it's been specifically brought up, it's been in relation to the Wheelers. Karen, was your other daughter swapped in the hospital? Or something even crazier?
I'll get to more when my ideas are less of a mess. But there's also something interesting @bylerposting has brought up - the way that Mike has this whole interesting out of place dialogue with El.
But what if it wasn't about El - what if it was also subtext for Holly? She came into the family even though she wasn't a biological daughter. The Wheelers were like her new parents, and Nancy was like her new sister.
And there's so much more I'm thinking of but can't get to right now, like Holly with the lights and her perception of the supernatural before others sense it. I just want to get this ball rolling for real.
#this post is a MESS im so sorry#holly wheeler#el hopper#jane ives#alice creel#sarah hopper#(maybe less so)#whiterabbitgate#the wheelers#stranger things#something is WEIRD with the young girls in this show#but yeah uh. what if holly isnt a wheeler#biologically#st5 theory#st5 speculation
