And today we are not making any exception because we are proud to bring you a fresh and young new talent from Hartlepool, a coastal town in the North East of England. JGYB is the name and the sound is unique and extremely mature for his age. A balance between groovy broken beats, chopped up vocals and creative sampling - the result is an emotional and efficient collection of tracks ready to get the entire dance floor ears attention. Trust us, it's been tested. Hard to categorize but extremely easy to fall in love with, JGYB's music will definitely get the attention of people and DJ's trying to find original new sounds to fit into their playlists. This talent from Lisboa got people's attention with the music he released on labels such as Basal (Spain) and Circus Maximus (Portugal), releases that got him featured in webzines such as XLR8R. Influenced by Techno and the broken rhythms of british bass music, Shcuro's remix for JGYB is a fast throbbing dark interpretation of JGYB's aw-inspiring track "Sun Soaked". Mixed Emotions, vol. 4

Mixes I like (et un post en anglais pour que mes lecteurs anglophones se sentent pas trop abandonnés).

Even though there still aren’t enough women DJs, I’m quite proud that France in the nineties produced a number of DJs who represented not only women but also the queer community. While Miss Kittin, Jennifer Cardini and Chloé are probably the most famous today, one of the most important figures in the french electronic scene from the nineties up to the noughties is DJ Sextoy. She was admired for her ear, her ability to play different genres in the same set and last but not least her charisma. She tragically passed away in 2002.

I never had the chance to listen to her play live but I did watch a beautiful documentary about her a few years back called “Le Projet Sextoy”. It was quite an intense experience, getting to know more about someone and developing feelings of artistic respect for them while simultaneously being reminded that they are gone.

Well, I’m happy Crame shared this mix a few months back. It’s Sextoy B2B Miss Kittin, recorded when they were flatmates, probably in the very late 90′s or early noughties. It spans plenty of different genres, you can hear very early forms of minimal house, but also full blown house / techno, even some ghetto and some hardcore. A nice introduction to the world of a DJ gone way too early.

I’ve talked about José Acid aka Shcuro before, I like what he does as a producer, especially his release on 1980 with that Photonz remix (dig a few posts down and you’ll find a preview link on this site). 

This set he played a few weeks back at MusicBox is amazing, and there’s no doubt I dig what he does as a DJ too. RAVE with capital letters, starting with I’m a Cliché’s Docteur Satan (a terrific rave inspired project by Krikor) and with a bunch of edits of classic tunes and also stuff I’ve never heard before. Around 31:35 he drops Aranha de Prata by Lake Haze, which has been driving me nuts for a while and that has a huge hit potential in my opinion. There’s also some of his own productions, very acidcore in their feel but with BPMs closer to what we are used to today.

What a set, I wish I could have been there to support him and yell BORA JOSE at repeated intervals.

MOoLy - Top Of The Top's Mix (All Tracks By Emmanuel Top) 02.01.2012 by Mooly on Mixcloud

Finally, here’s a set by a friend who is also a constant source of inspiration, Mooly from Minimum Syndicat. He’s one of these guys who can turn monomania into something beautiful. In this case, he made a mix containing only Emmanuel Top tracks, and it’s amazing.

Before writing this article I was convinced Emmanuel Top is belgian, actually he’s french. But he’s been such a vital part of the belgian new beat / rave / eurodance scene with his output for DiKi Records and his productions as Bazz, Plexus or even BBE that I was mistaken.

Anyway, this set really highlights what a talented producer he is. Mooly focused on Top’s acid tracks and shows how subtle they are. You can’t really say the music is minimal but you can definitely see how Top’s long and winding tracks, the way details evolve in important elements over several minutes influenced the early minimal producers and helped bridge the gap between the maximal sound of the nineties towards something more “reduced”. 

This mix really got me into a bunch of Emmanuel Top’s tracks, especially the 12 minute ones with several disctinct parts in them. I still listen to it quite often when I want to go really deep.

Uma intuição para entender o que realmente importa na experiência clubbing, aliada a um apetite voraz por descobrir música e uma técnica infalível apurada ao longo de 20 anos de DJing, fizeram de Jane Fitz um pilar da música de dança em Londres. Do caldeirão cultural que é a França, sem igual na soma que faz das culturas a norte, a sul e a oriente do Mediterrâneo, Paris sempre foi mordaz na encarnação de uma música transfronteiriça, bem nutrida pelos seus bairros e vizinhanças que cruzam o mundo inteiro. De uma cena hip hop voraz ao Médio Oriente batido nas ruas, dali sai uma nova encarnação da música e das gentes. E é dela que fazem parte Guido Minisky e Hervé Carvalho - luso-descendente o último, pois claro. 

Eles são ACID ARAB. Dupla que está muito longe de pretender ser a reinvenção de qualquer coisa oriental ou, com isso, estabelecer a redefinição da música electrónica a ocidente, per si. Acid Arab é um dupla que se pode dizer produto cultural dos dias de hoje. Dois DJs que o eram há muito, residentes do Chez Moune, que se renderam - paixão e pele - a uma música que fez trajecto até cá, “até nós”, com uma bagagem milenar que eles, sim, se predispõem a continuar e a fazer parte, gerando legado e eco também. E fazer parte do “hoje”, implica apenas cruzar todos os tipos de música e códigos do Oriente (seja do Norte de África, Líbano, Egito ou Tunísia, lugar último onde a paixão surgiu) com as maquinarias sintetizadas e analógicas de que o techno dispõe e o acid house impõe, não para recriar nada, mas para fazer crescer tudo. Se inicialmente apenas colocava discos pelo simples prazer de o fazer, rapidamente começou a tocar em nome próprio e enquanto Tha Lovely Bastards (dupla que mantém com Mad.Mac) em diversos festivais e clubes por todo o país e em algumas cidades europeias
