Yellowjackets truly has everything. it’s a love story. it’s a tragedy. it’s a 90s high school sitcom. it’s a survivalist show. it’s a supernatural drama. it’s an investigative mystery. it’s a story about the complex dynamics of female relationships. it’s a story about the horrors of being a teen girl. it’s a study of the lasting effects of ptsd. there’s cults. there’s biblical imagery and greek mythos references. there’s milfs. there’s murder. there’s horror. there’s comedy. there’s cannibalism as a metaphor for love. it’s literally got everything.

Big fan of characters who “kill” their younger selves. Characters who resent the past version of themselves for letting them get hurt, who look at that kid and feel revolted by the foreignness of it. Characters who feel they have to cut the child out of them like a tumor because it’s hurting them too much and if I don’t kill you you’ll kill me. Nearly nothing remaining of that past self but for the little connections and mannerisms they can’t kick, and when it shines through, it’s a terrible, tragic thing, because the child is still in there. It’s in there and it’s grotesque in its suffocation. But it’s there.

in the pilot jackie teases shauna abt her “catholic phase” and to that shauna responds that she liked the saints bc she thought they were “so tragic”. in the last ep of s1 during their fight the first insult shauna calls jackie is tragic. she calls her other things too but its so intresting that the first thing she thinks of is tragic. to me thats like a freudian slip. jackie was shaunas saint.
