I’ve brought this up multiple times with a friend of mine but since we know Shauna is Shauna, do we think she was obsessed with Jackie’s fangs?

The Thing about Yellowjackets is that in the teen timeline they're so fucked up(derogatory) but like, you get it. They're just teens fighting tooth and claw to survive it's going to get messy. It's terrible and I cannot look away. I do not want to look away.
In the adult timeline they're fucked up(affectionate) but like you're begging them to have a lick of sense. Maybe even just one ( 1 ) conversation with good communication. Adult YJ think things through maybe even a little challenge impossible.

I really wish the Yellowjackets fandom could accept Shauna is mentally ill in the same way Lottie is.
Obviously, yes, all of the Yellowjackets have severe PTSD. But it's like people get that Lottie is schizophrenic and that Tai suffers from some unspecified/undiagnosed dissociative disorder on top of having PTSD while Shauna's postpartum psychosis--the symptoms of which include but aren't limited to:
hallucinations
increased agitation/irritability
paranoia
persecutory delusions/feeling that others are out to get you
disruptive or aggressive behavior
withdrawing from loved ones & social activities
--is largely overlooked and instead her actions are treated as the result of her grief over losing Jackie and her baby.
Although it's understood that Shauna's labor and resulting stillbirth were uniquely damaging experiences that compounded her trauma in ways the others were spared from, she still gets lumped in with the other Yellowjackets as "only" suffering from PTSD. She just has *extra* PTSD. She suffered the most and it turned her into The Most Deranged and Bloodthirsty Yellowjacket.
But how would discussion of Shauna's season 3 arc look if her lashing out at Nat, her fixation on Ben as the culprit behind the cabin fire, her withdrawing socially from the group, and, yes, her extremely (often disproportionate) violent behavior were seen as being driven by her postpartum psychosis the way Lottie's faith in the wilderness is understood to be driven by her schizophrenia?
I don't know where I'm going with this, to be honest. I guess my point is that I think the fandom views the loss of wilderness baby as just a tragic event that compounded Shauna's grief and trauma when what we're actually seeing is the effects of an untreated severe mental health emergency not unlike Lottie's deterioration since running out of her meds.

jeff sadecki loves to be like Ugh my bitch wife has been so paranoid and high strung ever since she killed the guy she thought was blackmailing her friends over the stuff they did during the 19 months they spent stranded in the canadian wilderness. Something that has nothing to do with me at all

I really enjoy how the surviving adults have, more or less consciously, surrounded themselves with the Wilderness.
Taissa “I really just want to focus on our collective future” Turner needs to look behind her
Tumblr media
Travis basically still lived in the cabin
Tumblr media
Shauna has a painting which looks exactly like where they were stranded (in her dining room...)
Tumblr media
Van still lives in the attic
Tumblr media
Lottie is something else entirely, living in wooden trailers next to mountains and a lake, surrounded by the symbol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
+ Misty doesn’t surround herself with reminders of the Wilderness itself, but she has a picture of the team next to her front door, which fits her perfectly

the way ep10 basically confirms that while shauna may put on the antlers and call herself their queen, natalie will always be their true leader. they will sacrifice themselves to help her get away and then laugh in shaunas face, even if she's the most violent person out there, because they never accepted her as their leader. but nat? they kissed her, bowed to her. and they will do anything to make sure that natalie gets out of there

When other Yellowjackets fans, majority who are poc themselves, talk about how weird and frustrating it is that the writers introduced a random yte character and gave them a storyline when there were two (technically three but they killed off Lottie even when there was an opportunity for more) woc, who have been around since s1, that could've fit the mold instead (like Mari) and have actual personalities outside of building up/being the lapdog for another character. Or how often times many of the, limited, poc characters are often either treated poorly and killed off, or pushed to the side (Simone, reduced to the disposable black girlfriend trope and is nearly killed by her partner because she's in the way of a ship; Travis, since s1, had his trauma dismissed or ignored and was overly hated but no one talks about how he was SA'd by the girls he's now stuck with on top of having to eat his brother and not be able to grieve over it). How Taissa's whole storyline is just revolving around Van even with all the potential, especially given she's fighting to be free from her own mind, how Lottie's mental illness is treated so poorly as if it's not the butt of a joke then it's met with heavy criticism (and the only time she is met with sympathy for it, it's through the lens of a yte character embodying her and having an emotional conversation with her father). How you can have all of these reasons (and more) for being annoyed by Melissa's character or the direction of the show, and be met with #those fans downplaying these concerns, or just being overly antagonistic just because they find yte character #243 entertaining so obviously these conversations don't have merit. But this fandom has always had an...."interesting" way in which it discussed the poc characters on the show, so I'm not surprised.
#yellowjackets#yellowjackets critical#mind u in the og script lottie was a black girl who had to suffer racial abuse from an old rich yte woman that she never recovered from...#like tai has a premise for such interesting storylines (that don't revolve around yte characters) and the show still does her dirty#and even regarding her relationship why would tai be so dismissive of her family over van? why is there hardly any shaunatai scenes?#a yte woman's introduction to the show being her potentially killing an indigenous woman struggling with mental illness and only for said#woc's death to be discovered through a true crime forum and used for a competition between two yte characters....yeah there's no problem at#all there#like so much of melissa's character feels at the expense of woc who were already established and had more to show for it than her#and it gets so annoying seeing those fans try to skirt around the problem or speak over poc fans when called out#like why does mari receive such hate or lack of understanding in comparison to yte counterparts who do worse than her? i thought the yjs#shouldn't be judged heavily bc they're teenagers going through the unimaginable? or is that mindset not shared with woc?#and im not even getting into how the plot is all over the plsce#like why is the teen timeline (where most of them are going to die) more diverse than the adult? and adding another yte character was#supposed to do what?#lottie matthews#taissa turner#like so much of s1 was about shauna heck even some parts of s2 so i thought maybe s3 would be tai's. nope#yellowjackets spoilers

shauna is a bad person because she was a good one and its fucking fascinating. "I didnt start out a bad person" is one of the Best lines in the show because it sums her up so succinctly and melanie lynskeys delivery is a gut punch
she naturally cares so much about people thats literally why shes like this. she was always flawed (impulsive, self-destructive, etc) but there were so many moments in season 1 where she went out of her way to be kind. its why she cant ever accept anythings her fault because deep down she feels so much of it is and if she ever acknowledges that even slightly its over. too much has happened and she cares too deeply for it to not totally fucking destroy her. she had to lie to herself to survive. its why her subconcious regularly revives the person she loved most just to say mean things to her. it is the worst punishment shauna can imagine and so thats exactly what her imagination delivers. at least then its someone else saying it. it means she can still hide from herself. pretend the punishment isnt self-inflicted. as an adult she creates her own demons. no one damaged the breaks or locked the fridge, it was always only her. she even kills the one person who helped her feel happy and free for the first time in 25 yrs just because he seemed too good to be true. ghost jackie warning her on the bridge that someone was going to get hurt was shaunas own mind creating a self-fufilling prophecy. it couldnt end well, shes not allowed to be happy (she had to make sure)
even the awful things we see shauna doing this season as a teenager, the person she's become, came about because of how much she cared. in keeping them all alive, she destroyed her entire sense of self. she emerges from it all convinced she's a terrible person now so she should just accept it. embody it. and shes so full of pain and rage that its so easy. someone needed to be okay with the worst parts of it, otherwise they didnt eat. otherwise they were vulnerable. she just cares too much. its the root of it all. it would be so easy to take extra rations (she doesn't). shes lost her child, imagined him ripped apart and eaten. (she'll cut into someone elses. rip him apart. they’re depending on her.) there's a purpose and fulfilment in the act. (she hates herself for feeling it but she needs to). shes lost everything and maybe she'd rather curl up in the snow by her babys grave and sleep. (they have to eat, she has to feed them.) they don't even thank her. she'll resent them for it later. (she still cares.) she hates them.
shauna may be be paranoid and vengeful but shes not a narcissist and shes not righteous. there's no wilderness god, no greater good, just reality. the place where they grew hungry enough to hunt each other. she wonders aloud why the hell melissa likes her, because shes aware shes unlikeable. it might not be a conscious choice but its deliberate. its a form of self-harm and its self-preservation. better to be feared and hated than pitied, at least then theres some power in what shes lost. (shes so desperate to feel powerful. she's earned it hasn't she?)
even when shes older and she tries to move on, always quick to blame others for her problems, deep down she will always feel responsible. its her fault jackie died so it has to mean something, her relationship with jeff has to be real. so she marries him out of guilt and has a child so she can continue to punish herself indefinitely. ofc it makes sense she can hug a confused old man because hes seeing his daughter instead, but she cant hold her own daughter the same way. cant love the way she wants to. (she could never let her go. she’d leave claw marks in her skin) she doesnt deserve her. cant let herself love callie like that. (she loves her anyway). because shes no good. because she knows what she could become (again) if she lost callie. she hurts people. shes a bad person and she deserves to be feel like this, to be blamed for everything, to freeze to death (because karma).
so yes shaunas a bad person. but shes not very good at it. and it wasn't pre-destined. she took on too big a burden, lost too much, and it broke her. that's what makes her tragic. most innately bad people dont spend their entire adult lives self-inflicting emotional torture.

I <3 their crazy asses I can't believe they made this show especially for me. In a laboratory. I genuinely have nothing else of value to say about this scene.

Obsessed with how Lottie is one of the only Yellowjackets who is not mean to or annoyed by Misty. I’m not saying she’s exactly friendly to her but at the very least she’s polite and non-judgemental. Even when she’s dismissive or exasperated it doesn’t come off as an aversion to Misty herself (like when faced with Misty’s aggressiveness towards her in s2). In s3 ep2, Lottie even awkwardly hugs her and attempts to comfort her about Nat’s death and her own guilt. It’s even funnier because Misty is often annoyed, suspicious of and weirded out by Lottie,
