canon starter call - open to anyone !
i have a strong urge to write some canon muses, so if you would be interested in writing against any of the canon muses listed under the READ MORE below, please comment/IM me and i can send a starter your way or reply to one of your starters.
i do not require you to know anything about my muse's canon, but i'm more than happy to tell you about it if you ask. i'd be happy to write canon muses against your ocs! also, mixing fandoms is 100% ok with me unless your canon muse is problematic and makes me uncomfy. my canon muses do not have all their memories or relationships from their life unless we plot it, but they will have the same general personality/ambitions.
if you are willing to write against my canon muses but don't care which, just like this post, and i'll take a look at your open starters and/or send you a closed starter at random with a muse i think fits the vibe.
*please don't agree to write against my canon muses if you're one of those picky weirdos that will be up in arms if i don't write a cannon muse exactly how you would.
( if you'd prefer to write against an oc muse only, check this post. )

These are all fics that have not escaped my drafts, not even for a single chapter. I can't provide links like the last poll series but I will provide a general summary below:
Crime Family Walker- Cassie joins
Summary: Cassie stuffs Cordell in a trunk and he's not pleased with it. Cassie is arrested for assaulting an officer, but Cordell also wants to handle her the Walker Way. James manages to talk him down from murder and suggests they help her find Miles as a way to gain a hold over her. Cordell reluctantly agrees.
Cassie/Trey
Summary: Cassie and Trey are dating and they're getting ready to take their relationship to the next level- until Trey learns about the massive antique doll collection Cassie keeps in her bedroom. He makes an excuse to leave but things are awkward after that. Cordell has to fix this because he cannot work in this environment.
Nobody dies but everything still sucks
Summary: Cordell and Cassie both get shot while on a mission. They both make it through surgery but both of their families are extremely worried and taking it out on James and Trey. Also there's recovery time.
The many ways we could've avoided this nonsense
Summary: 3 ways we could've avoided the nonsense around Shannon and the mustang. Includes Stella telling James and the grandparents finding out.
Drunk!August telling on himself in 3x05
Summary: August got more than a little tipsy at the party and tells on himself for throwing it without Stella's help before Cordell can get mad at either of them.
1x18 Hoyt lived AU
Summary: In which Hoyt is around for 1x18 and plays the devil on Cordell's shoulder on how to deal with Stan.
Tom/Kate Heist AU
Summary: Kate Carver is a world-class theif. When she gets called upon to steal from the notorious Tom Davidson for one of his rivals, she initially refuses but the siren song of money and glory eventually win her over. The heist goes well until it doesn't and she finds herself at the mercy of the most dangerous crime boss in Texas. Sparks fly but neither of them can let it show. She talks her way into a deal where the works for him until she "repays" him and they slowly get to know each other better.
Cassie is pregnant with Kevin's kid but he's dead whoops
Summary: Shortly after 3x15, Cassie finds out she's pregnant and there's only one person the father could be. Stressed and confused, she turns to Abby for help to figure out what to do. After a lot of thinking and talking with everyone, she decides on keeping the baby. Trey, being the closest, gets assigned with Helper duty and ends up catching feelings. Baby is born while everyone is stuck on the ranch at Thanksgiving (again). She also opens the door for Cooper to be involved with the baby if he really wants to be but warns him not to make promises he can't keep (again).
Walkernatural Extra- Cassie/Dean
Summary: AU where Kevin is as he is in canon and not Adam Milligan. Cassie has been propositioned by Kevin and Trey and Cordell are eager to push her that way but she has Concerns. Dean listens to her and offers to help investigate. "Do you have any idea how many 'pillars of the community' I've had to kill because they were monsters?" After the truth about Kevin comes out, she calls Dean for comfort and they Get Comfy while watching Hawks Shadow.
Walkernatural Extra- Cordell at Azazel's Battle Royale
Summary: Walkernatural AU (because why not) where Cordell gets pulled into the Special Child battle royale with Sam. He helps Sam get the rest of the special children under control (though he's definitely freaking out) and kills Jake before he can kill Sam. However, Azazel's threats to his family have him worried and it takes a bit for Sam to talk him down and convince him that Dean and Bobby can help. He takes them all back to his family in Texas. Dean and Bobby are both a little weirded out by this "other Sam" but they don't think anything of it until Dean remembers the nursery originally had two cribs.

Okay so the gripe I'm starting to have with the writing in s1 of Warrior Nun (idk if the same things will apply in s2) is that the dialogue is there without any action to support it. I mentioned in my ep3 rewrite how it felt really heavy, sluggish and feeling even more of the same in eps 5 and 6. There's only so much I can take of folks literally talking at each other (no matter how pretty they are).
The thing that I'm thinking about is how action can be used to add, or sometimes even contradict, the words characters speak. I went hunting through Robert McKee's "Dialogue" book and this passage explains it best:
The axiom “nothing is what it seems” expresses the primal duality of life: What seems is the surface of life, the activity we see and hear, the outer behavior of what a character says and how she behaves. What is is the substance of life, the action the character takes below the surface of activity. … Therefore, no line of dialogue is finished until you’ve answered this question: In the subtext of my character’s verbal activity, what action is he in fact taking? Consider ice cream. We never eat ice cream simply because we’re hungry. Like all behaviors, a conscious or subconscious action underlies this activity. What is the ice cream eater really doing? … Those actions—drowning sorrows, rebelling, or rewarding—find expression in the activity of eating ice cream. The same with talk… Behind the textual activities of the characters, what subtextual actions actually drive the scene?
Now, I love action sequences as much as anyone - I grew up in martial arts, trained in it, absolutely love the work in Warrior Nun so far. The thing is, a fight is never just about the fight itself - in a sense, it's a sort of dialogue, and it has to make sense in the context of the world. It has to push the story, the characters to some sort of change - thus the fight itself has to have a story within itself (kinda like how in musicals, a song will feature the character having undergone some kind of change or having made some sort of decision). For a fantastic explanation of this, check out this video by Accented Cinema.
The problem with a lot of the "action" in episode 5 is that there is no narrative - we get kind of different beats, but there's no real emotional charge. So for my rewrite, I want to focus on both subtext and building up to the violence.
The focus of episode 5 - as I understand it, folks please lmk if you have other readings! - is Mary and Lilith chasing down Ava, leading up to the tragic fight with the tarask. Canon has Mary and Lilith literally butting heads (and fists and feet etc) but there's no tension, no build up.
So first, I'd add some level of tension by having Mary and Lilith having to cooperate with each other. Maybe they need to pretend to be employees of the ferry so as to not draw attention to themselves, to the OCS. Lilith would of course chafe at this (the woman was walking around in the open with a gd sword strapped to her back; plus there was that line from Mary about calling too much attention to them and Lilith just not caring), and Mary would try to reason with her. Maybe something like, "we've already lost one, we don't need to lose anymore."
And maybe it's unclear if she means the OCS in general or just Lilith or both, but maybe Lilith takes it to mean just herself (self-centered and self-serving as she is lately) and she shoots back something like, "Didn't think you cared." And Mary, what I would give to have Mary give an echo of that devastated look she gave Beatrice in ep 1 when Bea said "she's right" - because of course she cares but also she's still very much haunted by Shannon and grieving and angry and yeah, I want all the angst lol
So we have them pretending to be ferry employees right, maybe show off how the OCS can be secret agent-y. But of course, they start sniping at each other, verbally then physically, getting in each other's way, sabotaging each other, etc. They don't want to fight each other, at least Mary doesn't, but their intentions are at such odds at each other that it inevitably starts to escalate.
And then when they finally come upon Ava - I'd have them both happen upon her at the same time - Lilith drops the ploy completely, symbolized visually by her ripping off the ferry employee disguise.
But just as she's about to attack Ava, Mary steps in, blocks the blow. And maybe she tells Ava to run and Ava's confused - and let's have this in a sort of confined area so that Ava has to witness Mary protecting her from Lilith (because idk, I didn't feel the connection between her and Mary). Meanwhile, throughout the fight, Lilith is getting all the more aggravated by being so close yet so far from the halo - and maybe Mary's trying not to really hurt her but Lilith starts playing dirty, maybe starts pulling out weapons (blades, etc) as well.
Ava will escape somehow - maybe just phases through a wall or something - and Lilith will take out her anger fully on Mary, not just through her fists, but with her words as well. They'll burst out from whatever confines they were in, and Lilith will just rip into Mary, her fury overpowering Mary both verbally and physically - how she failed to protect Shannon, how she can't change anything (and maybe it won't be completely clear, as she's dealing some ground and pound onto Mary, if she's talking to Mary or talking about herself), and maybe even have Lilith say outright, "She's not Shannon" (which would be a lovely call back to my favorite Avatrice scene thus far).
And then she'll leave Mary, bloodied and barely conscious, a snarl on her face as she stalks off to follow Ava. Perhaps we'll have the camera linger on Mary's face, devastated and disappointed - but what if she sees some kind of sign, maybe a cross or something that reminds her of Shannon - and we see her hand tense around one of her shotguns and she whispers, "I know."
We'll cut to the warehouse place with Ava and JC, Lilith stalking them like a horror movie villain - maybe Ava obviously is looking for Mary maybe even asks about her and Lilith mocks her for supposedly caring and Ava falling back into anger. We'll keep the attempt to cut out the halo as written and Mary stepping in and the tarask appearing.
So when I initially watched this episode, I had a very loud "wtf?!" moment when Lilith gets impaled though - I had no clue what the heck she was trying to do. Was she aiming to attack Ava? Was she aiming for the tarask? (Also why the heck did she step into Mary's line of fire? Was she counting on Mary to cover her?) It just didn't make sense to me.
So I'd adjust this to have Lilith and Mary instinctively start fighting off the tarask when it first appears - but getting pushed back, literally (maybe still have Mary get thrown into that car). Then the tarask will turn towards Ava and Mary will try to distract the tarask by shooting at it but what if Lilith then attacks Mary? And Mary realizes that Lilith is counting on the tarask to kill Ava for her and Mary lets her anger out, gets Lilith off of her somehow, attacks the tarask with renewed vigor.
And what if. What if Lilith has just had enough of Mary, has had enough of her getting in the way, of her showing compassion for this girl who is not worthy, who's just in the way of her becoming the halo-bearer, and what if - what if she holds the sword with the intent of attacking Mary? And what if it's in that blind run towards Mary that the tarask swings around and gets her?
I haven't yet watched the rest of season and I'm not as familiar with the nuances of Lilith's character arc, but idk, this feels like it could add layers to what she goes through, fully turning on the OCS. Not to mention it could also add more grief and guilt for both Mary and Ava, having Lilith's death on their hands.
Anyway, just some thoughts. Kind of a fun exercise, actually

Supporters of #NoHostageLeftBehind Open Letter to Joe Biden - Part 1/2
The letter consists of lies, no mention of Palestinian genocides, and a call for ceasefire.
Read the full letter:
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday's release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan [Raanan] and by today's release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered—women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group's founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.
We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace. Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, in this moment, freedom for the hostages.
We urge everyone to not rest until all hostages are released. No hostage can be left behind. Whether American, Argentinian, Australian, Azerbaijani, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Kazakh, Mexican, Panamanian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Thai, Ukrainian, Uzbekistani or otherwise, we need to bring them home.

THE HALLOWEEN MASTER PLAYLIST
Halloween is my favorite holiday, and listening to some spooky music and watching horror films is mandatory if you’re really going to get into the spirit of the thing. (I eat candy, and dress like a hobo year-round, so that part of it was a given.) So I thought I’d post a master playlist of seasonal music a few weeks early in case any of you wanted to put something together for your own enjoyment, or maybe a Halloween party you might be planning.
Thinking outside the box (or coffin, if you prefer) I managed to do it without using Monster Mash or The Purple People Eater. But, there are roughly a hundred titles here, and I promise you if you turn down the lights, and close your eyes when you begin listening to it, you’ll have turned every light in the house back on, and double-locked every door.
Happy haunting.

I'd have to be a huge bitch to not tackle this, huh?
Below the break is my stream-of-consciousness for this:
FIRST TWILIGHT:
So, if we take the rule that "a culprit must not die" literally- that the only possible culprits are Battler, George, or Maria- the purple to examine here is George. Battler and Maria's statements aren't of particular consequence- it doesn't particularly matter whether or not they died instantly, or if anything suspicious was found- but George being the one to note that no one was hiding could mean that if he was lying, he could have been hiding inside.
So, right now, within that selection of culprits, the money is on George. However, if we expand it out to mean that there are other potential culprits, George can still be ID'd, but there may be others who are lying.
By the rules of this game board- since Shannon and Kanon are the same person- if one of them is lying, both are. Furthermore, Kanon and Nanjo are the ones who confirm "death by sight" for this occasion- which extends out to Shannon, although that feels like it might violate the rule that culprits can't make other characters lie. However, since this opens up the possibility that all six of the first twilight victims are alive, I'm just gonna put a pin in this and keep an eye on Shannon, Kanon, and Nanjo.
SECOND TWILIGHT:
Of note: George doesn't saying anything here.
Since there's red text proclaiming that the culprit of the first twilight really did kill six people, that retroactively confirms that Shannon, Kanon, and Nanjo were telling the truth. This does not totally clear them, because the rule says a culprit "may" lie, not "must" lie.
Shannon and Kanon note that there are alibis for the servants, but not for any of the family members. It's not looking good for George! However, that doesn't answer how he could have gotten into Natsuhi's room, but according to Bernkastel, the only thing that matters here is the whodunnit, not how- or why-.
As far as the other outstanding potential culprits, Maria's purple is backed up by the red, and Battler's purple is probably inconsequential, as it would require cooperation with Nanjo, who may or may not be a culprit.
Fourth Twilight:
Most suspicious part here is the second page, between the cousins. Maria doesn't speak in purple when she says that George couldn't kill her, and then Jessica and Battler do say it in purple. The nature of George's alibi isn't specified. Focus on George has now widened out to George, Battler, and to a lesser extent, Jessica.
Eighth Twilight:
Skipped ahead to here because casting a gaze on Jessica made me wonder if there's any way to spin what's being said here as Jessica not actually being dead, thereby casting her back into the culprit pool. The only way she could be alive, though, is if Maria was a culprit.
I also "cheated" at this point by going to the culprit select, and finding that it is possible- mechanically- for there to be multiple culprits:
I feel like I'm losing the plot, but let's assume at this point that Battler, George, Maria, and Jessica are the culprits, and the fact that Jessica died last means that all three of them can be lying about her death.
Fifth/Sixth Twilight:
Sticking to the assumption that the cousins are the culprits, everything is still ok here. Also skipping the Seventh Twilight at this time because if I roll with the cousins being the culprits, nothing they say really matters.
Examining The Cousins:
A lot of the "closed room" part of the murders go out the window if Jessica and George are capable of lying. Literally for the Second Twilight. Wait, no, even though the seals were placed after the Second Twilight, the red establishes that all the windows are barred, removing them from the equation entirely... but Jessica actually does specify windows AND doors... but Gohda and Shannon confirm the door was locked when they arrived... and now that I'm looking back to the first twilight, Krauss actually confirms what George says about no one hiding... unless there's something tricky in the fact that George says "was" and Krauss says "is"...
Desperate to start checking hints but I think I'm just gonna take a break for now to let my head soak.

opinion: ro’s character might be a lot more useful narrative-wise if her being a microbiologist wasn’t just acknowledged, but explored.
in the books, we see her show the characters (and consequently, the reader) that she knows what she’s doing, and that ogres pride themselves on having a lot of knowledge when it comes to microbiology. particularly using that knowledge to make effective weapons, both almost harmless and lethal.
but there’s so much more potential w/ ogre microbiology than just them having good weapons because of it. ogres (authorities, at least, like ro) being interested enough in expanding their microbiology knowledge that they’d be willing to collaborate more with other species? like how they cooperated with lady cadence on figuring out how soporidine works? it could open so many doors!
we could have ro branching out to make ‘trial run’ alliances with other species (like elves, goblins, and most importantly, gnomes) to do joint studies of how certain things work on a microscopic and ‘normal’ scale. we could see that her being a princess doesn’t just mean she’s a good fighter and that she’s got connections, but she can also be a diplomat. it’d make her being in the lost cities a lot more important, plus, it’d be a great chance for shannon to flex some worldbuilding. ro could also flesh out connections she’s made in the lost cities (like with sophie’s bodyguards [i’m thinking of flori and sandor in particular] and elvin authorities she’s had to deal w/ like mr. forkle and the council) through sharing or gaining knowledge as a microbiologist.
using ro as a character-driven plot device, ogres could add ‘willing to cooperate even with creatures we have negative history with for science’ to their reputation among other enlightened species. it’d make ogres more nuanced, and maybe, if shannon decided to go this route, cause problems for elves who claim their interspecies role is being peacekeepers.
#i am having brainworms about the untapped potential of ro as a character ok#i wanna see her be more than the stand-in for wattpad sokeefe girlies!!#believe it or not this is the shorter version of what i originally wrote#like. she doesn't have to give up being an excellent warrior!! she doesn't have to give up being snarky!!#but she can be less 'oh look what i know and you don't hahaha LOSER'#and more 'listen if i give you this info will you tell me how this works?'#and it'd be so much more interesting!#also her maybe bonding with elwin over biology would be SUCH a win#strangers to 'you seem cool and we're also the closest keefe has to parental figures of sorts so we're bros now'#like. c'mon. it'd be so great man#also i keep picturing ro picking up flori and putting her on her shoulder#and walking around wildwood and going 'tell me how this works from your pov'#after pointing at some gnomish phenomenon#and then listening to flori ramble#and then when she's done going 'alright. that sounds funky in a good way. wanna see what science has to add?'#and then ro whips out a microscope she just has bundled up in one of her ten million pockets and runs a mini experiment with flori#manipulating the plant to do something and ro looking in the microscope and adding commentary on how that works on a cellular level#and them becoming friends!! perhaps. maybe even. because i have accidentally dug myself into a new rarepair hell. lovers#ogre queen ro being independent on the throne is something i love and is realistic#but it'd also be fun from a fanon point to have her just have a gnomish gf. or permanent fiancee. or wife#like. oh yeah i killed the guy my dad forced me to marry so i could get the throne after my dad died.#yeah i'm committed to this cute little gnome that i met because our charges were dating back when i was a bodyguard#pleeeeease. ro's snark + flori's genuine attitude towards everything?? them bringing out their main traits in each other??#plus the fucking HEIGHT DIFFERENCE?? it'd be so cute oh my god#as a lesbian of short stature i think flori deserves a tall buff lady to sweep her off her feet#also flori sweeping ro off her feet using a tree or something would be funny as FUCK#might ramble on ro and sandor tolerating each other better because of studying how transforming a corpse to gold works and then expanding#that concept to apply to other things would be cool to see#kotlc#keeper of the lost cities

open to everyone! shannon is going through a breakup ( something she should be used to because girl drops men like hot potatoes. ) but this one effected her due to the personal side of it! she's at a friends party and trying to get over it and your muse finds her :) any connection but i'm thinking they don't get along. can be platonic or romantic. :) find shannon's info here.
shannon cooper was not a negative nancy . she was a firm optimist with bubbly eyes and a determination not to have premature wrinkles in her twenties . it's why , despite the aching of her chest due to heartbreak , she attends the rowdy party at the club . wasn't much of a drinker , but she downs the lemon drop shot with a squeal and a ick before shoving the empty glass back and dropping her head into her open hand . she wanted to kill craig manning , desperately , for causing a shift in her personality . didn't help that she could hear the giggling of girls behind her talking about the musician . his music wasn't even good ! no , she refused to feel this way , it wasn't like her . she was shannon cooper , for gods sake ! she was hot , she was loyal , she ... has never been single for more than a week since she was thirteen . she wasn't going to let some stupid breakup change her course of life . so , when she can see from the corner of her eye a figure slide behind her , she straightens herself out, flips her hair over her shoulder and pivots with a smile ... that drops at realization. " oh, it's you ... "

Notes:
The Girls were having a congress afterwards. Alicia left very early to UBER a kid, but returned with a cheap bottle of wine that she opened a few days before Super-Bowl Sunday. That's a low-life way to celebrate Sandy's recent birthday, but that's what Sandy gets for being secretive about dates and age. I tried to over-hear any of their menu's for this Thursdays' wine tasting & snacks, but they were whispering. I did hear Kayla say "Home-made Pizza" but that is unlikely to include pepperoni and cheese on the same pie.
Sabrina brought a box of beer to the Barn last week. I know that seems out of character, but she has been doing some architectural work for a couple of breweries in Murfreesboro and they pay their Lady Architects with beer. Several of us have sampled the beer and hope Sabrina continues to get paid this way for her work. It is great !! My only complaint is that the labels on the cans are not highly distinctive in appearance, so none of us could remember the brands. I bet Sabrina could design a more memorable looking can and make them pay her real money.
Thursday will be our usual traditional wine and snacks after-party. I hope it's a good one. The weather should cooperate.
Thursday at 4 PM.

NFL Week 3
This wideout shit is getting out of control. This week we had 15 wideouts that reached the century mark. We also have some big names making their way to the blog this season. Without further ado…
Keenan Allen is a man amongst boys. Right now Allen makes the game look really easy. The chargers have used Allen in the slot more than I’ve ever seen. And it’s definitely paying off. Allen caught 18 balls for 215 yards with zero scores. And now that counterpart Mike Williams is injured, I expect Allen to continue putting the weight on his back and carrying the team.
Davante Adams takes home the WOW (wideout of the week) award. It’s refreshing to see Adams have the type of performance he’s capable of having each week. Davante finished his night with 13 catches for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adams dominated all over the field to make his first appearance of the year.
Tyreek Hill is amazzzing!!! Hill cannot be guarded 1on 1. Agains the Denver Broncos Hill was up to his usual shenanigans. Hill caught 9 passes for 157 yards and 1 tub. Hill continues to obliterate angles. And although he left Patrick Mahomes 2 seasons ago, Hill’s production has steadily increased and I believe if not Justin Jefferson, Tyreek is another wideout who can eclipse the daunting 2000 yards in a season.
Mama…Their goes that man! Justin Jefferson is a beautiful thing to watch. I love the way he’s playing right now. And I’m even more impressed by his run after catch. He’s dominating the field in every aspect of the game. Against the Los Angeles Chargers Mr. Jefferson caught 7 passes for 159 yards and 1 touchdown.
Another name I have never heard of had himself quite the performance. Nathaniel “Tank” Dell absolutely destroyed defenders on his way to a rookie break out performance. Catching 5 balls for a whopping 145 yards and 1 touchdown. Dell most definitely caught my eye and I’m glad the kid had his first 100-yard game in the NFL.
Adam Thielen is a name I have not heard called in at least two years. Glad the kid is still able to put up big numbers making his first appearance on the wideouts4life blog. That boy Adam pulled his old bag of tricks out on his way to an 11-catch, 145-yard, 1 touchdown performance.
Ja’Marr Chase Your Dreams has not started the year like he would like. As he put it after the game against the Rams, “I’m always fucking open.” Sounds like a true wideout. I remember in college saying the same shit every play to never get the ball thrown my way. Chase caught 12 balls for 141 yards with zero scores. I’m hopeful Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals play callers get this young lion the ball. Wideout fans like to see the wideouts ball.
AJ Brown is a dog. I know when watching tape of Mr. Brown, he’s going to give everything he has to give. After not contributing to the Eagles as he would have liked too. AJ Brown caught 9 passes for 131 yards. Brown did not score but every yard he earned helped the eagles beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
No introduction is need when a name like Deebo Samuel is mentioned. And as I write this blog, looking at the names above, I’m ecstatic because for the next decade I will get the chance to witness some of the greatest wideouts to ever play the game. You have to be a man to play for the San Francisco 49ers. They run so many fucking slants, it’s ridiculous. Deebo scored on a beautiful go-route thrown by Brock Purdy ending his night with 6 catches for 129 yards.
It sucks that on a great day that Mike Williams was having. His knee got twisted in an awkward position leading to the young man tearing his ACL. Williams is out for the season. But prior to the injury Williams caught 7 passes for 121 yards and scored on trick play from fellow wideout Keenan Allen.
Amari Cooper is like fine wine. He just keeps getting better with age. I still standby the point Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe that Cooper does turn it on and off. But maybe that isn’t a bad thing. It definitely lures defensive backs to sleep. Amari still is the best on press release and it’s not even close. Cooper almost made a guy fall on a sweet fade route he hauled in finishing his afternoon with 7 catches for 116 yards and 1 touchdown.
DK Metcalf is a physical specimen. His route running is not great. And that’s ok, Terrell Owens wasn’t a route runner but he damn sure made plays. As I watch more and more film Metcalf reminds me of the hall of fame wideout. He catches better than T.O and for sure is faster as well. Against the Panthers Metcalf caught 6 passes for 112 yards helping secure the victory for the Seahawks.
Stefon Diggs is one of my favorite wideouts to watch. One pet peeve of mines is when wideouts make a routine catch against zone coverage and get up with the shenanigans. Against the Washington Commanders Diggs caught 8 passes for 112 yards. I feel he needs to do more because there are two hogs in Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hill battling for the NFL’s top wideout spot.
Ohio State and Alabama have put out tons of the wideouts who are really good as of the recent 5 years. One of those wideouts Chris Olave an Ohio State product just keeps on producing. Olave had a sweet one-hand catch up the right sideline that was ridiculous. Olave finished his night with 8 catches for 104 yards. For a 2nd year player, Olave checks all the boxes and I can only imagine his game will continue to get better.
Last man to reach the century mark this weekend is none other than Amon-Ra St. Brown. Against the Atlanta Falcons, St Brown was a nuisance. St. Brown hauled in 9 passes for 102 yards placing him at #5 in receiving yards.
Another week of wideouts balling out. 15 wideouts catching for at least 100-yards is a record. Im ecstatic to see if we can eclipse this feat once again during the season. A lot of writing but well worth it. Wideouts Let’s Go!

Possibilities of queer histories
In commemoration of Pride Month, we asked three of our authors the following question: What possibilities do queer histories open for charting a future toward liberation? Their responses brought together insights from research spanning regions and centuries to illuminate how producing rich histories of queer life may be generative for the struggle toward empowerment, dignity, and joy for all.
Carolyn Dever | Chains of Love and Beauty: The Diary of Michael Field
What is more central to the constitution of a minoritized community than recognition? Than the capacity of its prospective members to identify one another, and so to find possible common cause not only socially but politically? For the development of affective bonds of safety, care, love, joy?
Legislators in England during the final years of the Victorian period weaponized this insight against men found to be “committing acts of gross indecency with male persons.” What comprised “gross indecency”? Strangely, on this point the legislation—the Labouchere Amendment of the Criminal Law Amendment Act (1885)—was silent. Sex acts such as sodomy (including anal sex, or “buggery”) between men had been criminalized for centuries in England. What problem was this new legislation designed to address? Remarkably, it might be seen to criminalize men for seeming gay. In cases where the act of sodomy was unprovable, the “gross indecency” amendment now made criminal those actions, behaviors, or ways of being that might signal—signal!—some connection to male homosexuality.
“The lessons of queer history, however, teach us the lasting power of discernment, sustaining glimpses of one another, and thus ourselves…”
The Labouchere Amendment quickly gained the nickname the “Blackmailer’s Charter”; what would possibly come of this, other than making some men vulnerable to blackmail? It was silent on the question of female same-sex activity (though not on female heterosexual activity: the larger Act raised the age of consent for girls from thirteen to sixteen). Among the men who were prosecuted and convicted under the “gross indecency” clause were Oscar Wilde and Alan Turing. Practically speaking, the gross indecency law erected a new closet for the isolation of queer men; Wilde’s trials and conviction in 1895 made its capacity for degradation and lethal danger vividly clear. For “Sapphic” women, too, questions of identification and community formation were painfully complex. What were the possibilities—and limitations—of alliance, within couples, between couples, and even across genders?
From 1888–1914, the poets Katharine Harris Bradley and Edith Emma Cooper shared the pages of a diary, titled Works and Days, just as they shared a bed, a home, and a life. Together, Bradley and Cooper published poetry and plays as a male author, “Michael Field,” and they were also aunt and niece, connected through Bradley’s sister, who was Cooper’s mother. Secrets, and their isolating powers, form the bedrock of Works and Days. By circumstance, Michael Field became expert at prising the secrets of others, finding in the process small sparks of sustenance in recognition. Writing in her diary in 1902, for example, Cooper describes an encounter with a couple on a train: “We travel with two women—hermits in a pair, Nietzsche would call them—‘fellows’ we call them. The lover is an intense featured woman […]. The beloved a silly little thing of about two and twenty with whitish blue eyes, and frolicsome smile. They look at each other from the center of their eyes—and I know they are lovers.”
The lovers opposite are a mirror for Michael Field, reflecting the sustenance they find in other same-sex bonds. In 1894, for example, they wonder at the joyous intimacy of their new friends, Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon. Again, it is Cooper who writes: “Ricketts told us in the garden he wants to get a carbuncle carved into a heart that he may give it to Shannon. […] These two men live and work together and find rest and joy in each other’s love just as we do—two men whose life is complete harmony and two women.” The Labouchere Amendment resulted in the prosecution, persecution, imprisonment, and death of Michael Field’s friend Oscar Wilde. It aimed to degrade as gross and indecent the wants of men—and women—to “live and work together and find rest and joy in each other’s love.” The lessons of queer history, however, teach us the lasting power of discernment, sustaining glimpses of one another, and thus ourselves, in the wild, on the train, in the garden, and in the poetry of those who have gone before.
Roland Betancourt | Byzantine Intersectionality: Sexuality, Gender, and Race in the Middle Ages
One of the most powerful and pressing possibilities offered by queer history is to shatter the sense of novelty that is so often assumed about these issues today. Queer history demonstrates that questions about gender and sexuality are not new, and that our archives have always provided us with ample evidence for the existence of queerness and gender variance across time—evidence that many have chosen to willfully overlook or suppress. While people may use different methods, terms, or frameworks for expressing these ideas, our modern conceptualizations of queerness build upon centuries of conversations.
“The history of gender variance is particularly rich throughout the entirety of the ancient and medieval world on a global scale.”
As a historian that works on the Middle Ages (particularly, the Byzantine Empire), I am always surprised by the depth, nuance, and complexity that our sources evidence about questions regarding gender variance and sexuality. These histories are not always emancipatory or utopian—sometimes they are very painful—yet they speak to the endurance, continuation, and reformulation of communities across time. Other times, these stories are front and center, celebratory and filled with praise, even within the text of Early Christian and medieval commentators, a reality that many are often shocked to learn. Ultimately, the evidence is never what modern assumptions have presumed it to be. I would argue that the biggest impediment to understanding the past is approaching it with the idea that it presents a monotone heterosexual and cisgender history. Nothing could be further from the truth. Even the most hateful of texts speak powerfully to the ways in which humans have recognized the instability of alleged binaries, been concerned about the fluidities of gender and sexuality, and wondered how these questions relate to bigger ideas about the definition of the human being or their relationship with a divine or natural world.
As a historian that is interested in excavating the premodern lives of queer and trans people, I strongly believe that charting the future toward queer liberation means reevaluating our entire history with the unique sensibilities that queer scholars and students offer our archives. The history of gender variance is particularly rich throughout the entirety of the ancient and medieval world on a global scale. It is critical that we recognize and understand these histories to not only demonstrate that these experiences have always been a part of our world, but also to show how the past has resisted, defied, or found queer ways of thriving, even under the most oppressive of regimes. The role of the historian is not to parrot the past, but to use it to clarify our present. Queer liberation has always begun with recognizing that we have a past and working together toward a better future.
Grace Elisabeth Lavery | Pleasure and Efficacy: Of Pen Names, Cover Versions, and Other Trans Techniques
We could distinguish between histories of queer people (on the one hand) and queer relations to the past and to the future (on the other). The former, of course, remains important and necessary, especially since one of the most persistent ruses of patriarchal social reproduction is to make the present appear as a unique sort of aberration, a quirk in a history throughout which people, generally, made the choice to settle into heterosexual, reproductive families. I’m often drawn to the outliers of that narrative: queers like Oscar Wilde who radically rejected that bargain and were punished or (in his case) murdered for having done so. But history does not consist merely of straight people and outliers, and while modern forms of homosexual practice identity and gender transition are, by definition, novelties, the notion that the present is an especially queer time is always suspicious, whether marshalled by Ron DeSantis or by Kathleen Stock. The goal of such practice would be to understand the world around us better, and not necessarily to liberate it (except perhaps in the oblique sense that forewarned is forearmed).
“Does being in love, or having a crush, or having an overwhelming need to change one’s body amount to freedom? Are these experiences not at least as much experiences of blissful unfreedom?”
The second kind of “queer history” is more complicated. Queer theory has long taught us to be wary of assuming that queer history, or even queer life more broadly, is either more liberated or more liberatory than our straight counterparts. In No Future, Lee Edelman notoriously argued that queerness was, definitively, that which resists conscription into normative future-oriented narratives; Heather Love has defended the value of melancholic attachment as a function of queer lives; José Esteban Muñoz theorized the utopian dimension of queerness as its refusal to specify or particularize its unbounded desire. We could further note—as has been a thread in the thinking of Lauren Berlant, David Eng, Jack Halberstam, Jasbir Puar, and others—that gay liberalism has often served as a fig leaf for the neoliberal occupation of power. This story is so common as to be practically universal, whether in the form of colonial civil rights discourse or of pinkwashing, the capture of left-wing and center-left political parties by neoliberal ideologues that celebrate “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” as units of individual personhood but that work to remove protections for queer and trans communities by flogging off healthcare infrastructure and dismantling welfare protections.
Desire is very powerful—in certain respects more powerful than capital. For this reason, the workings of desire can often feel like liberation from capital and, indeed, can sometimes create zones of freedom, operating with some relative autonomy from biopolitical governance. This fact may not, in itself, point towards a broader sense of liberation: does being in love, or having a crush, or having an overwhelming need to change one’s body amount to freedom? Are these experiences not at least as much experiences of blissful unfreedom? Notably, too, they can exist without history of any kind: nobody needs a book to fall in love, though of course it can help! (That John Waters line about not fucking anyone who doesn’t read has always annoyed me. Don’t vote for someone who doesn’t read; fuck whomever you want to.) The work, as ever, is to figure out how to dilate and extend these zones of freedom from the moments where we encounter them, which could be anywhere—an old book, an unexpected frottage, a Lana Del Rey B-side. The dream would be engulfing the entire world—taking it all.

SHANNON O'CONNELL ON EBANIE BRIDGES: SHE TALKS TOO MUCH, I DON'T LIKE HER

Aussie rivals clash for IBF Bantamweight crown in Leeds
Shannon O'Connell says she will make Ebanie Bridges quit when the bitter Aussie rivals clash for the IBF Bantamweight World Title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds this Saturday December 10, shown live worldwide on DAZN. The pair have been embroiled in a fierce war of words since their World Title showdown was officially confirmed in September, but 39-year-old O'Connell from Slacks Creek in Queensland has accused 'The Blonde Bomber' of "taking things beyond boxing by getting personal." Bridges (8-1, 3 KOs) and O’Connell (23-6-1, 11 KOs) go head-to-head in the biggest fight in the history of Australian women’s boxing on the undercard of the Josh Warrington vs. Luis Alberto Lopez, and there is no love lost between them after 'Shotgun' O'Connell criticised Bridges for wearing lingerie at weigh-ins. "The rivalry probably came from me not liking the way Ebanie conducts herself," said O'Connell. "I’ve got a 15-year-old daughter and if I was doing the things Ebanie is doing it would be basically telling my 15-year-old daughter, ‘get your clothes off and you can basically get what you want in life’. That’s not what I’m about. Guy or girl it doesn’t matter who you are and what you’ve done – work hard for what you want. "If you want something hard enough and you work hard enough to get it, you’ll get there. I don’t want people to think that I just got gifted something. I really have busted my ass for twenty years in this sport and I’ve done everything the hard way. I know boxing more than I know my own life. I’ve been in there 80 times. I’ve done this so many times that it’s more normal to me than living everyday life. "I’m not about the bright lights and the fame of it. I feel like I am the better fighter and I’ve done the work. If that means I get called the World Champion, then I deserve that. She knows what she’s doing getting on those scales’ half naked in her lingerie. She knows what she’s doing buying Eddie Hearn those sunglasses. She knows everything she’s doing. So for her to be acting dumb saying, ‘I’m just doing what everyone else is doing’. No she’s not – she knows what she’s about. "I don’t know where this jealousy thing comes from. I don’t want the ‘fakeness’ of social media – I’m not about that. She’s said a lot of bad stuff about me. She said I’m mentally weak. She talks too much. I think she forgets what she says. She contradicts herself every time she opens her mouth. I don’t like her. "It’ll be extremely special to win this World Title. The path that I’ve created has all lead to this one moment. I’ve always said from the start, if I could tell my story and it changed one person’s life then it was all worth it. Well this is what will make it really worth it to them as well as me. It will show them that anything is possible." Bridges vs. O'Connell is part of a huge night of World Title action in Leeds; local hero Josh Warrington (31-1-1, 8 KOs) defends his IBF Featherweight World Title against Mandatory Challenger Luis Alberto Lopez (26-2, 15 KOs) in the main event, Wokingham Middleweight Felix Cash (15-0, 10 KOs) takes on Celso Nevez (9-2-2, 2 KOs) over eight rounds, Liverpool's James Metcalf (23-2, 14 KOs) defends his WBA Continental Title against Brooklyn's Courtney Pennington (16-5-3, 7 KOs), Leeds Super-Bantamweight prospect Koby McNamara (3-0) looks to go 4-0 against Nabil Ahmed (1-10-2), former World Champion Shannon Courtenay (7-2, 3 KOs) meets Bournemouth's Gemma Ruegg (5-5, 1 KO) over eight rounds at Super-Bantamweight, Heckmondwike Lightweight Cory O'Regan (8-0) fights Shaun Cooper (13-4) over six rounds, Hopey Price (8-0, 3 KOs) aims to go 9-0 against Jonathan Santana (9-3-1, 1 KO) in front of his home crowd, Gateshead talent Calum French (3-0, 1 KO) looks to finish the year in style against Kurt Jackson (3-0) and Anthony Crolla-trained Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (5-0) opens the night's action against Kristine Shergold (7-6-1, 1 KO).

"A missing dog?" Witch was far more used to being called for the likes of rightful vengeance, even murder, so for now she'd be willing to help and hope this led to more than trekking through greenery that refused to cooperate or communicate with her. "How long has he been gone for?" Shannon could search for the symbolism in the situation, but she would wait for the other to open up. If she chose to, of course.
A small head tilt as witch placed hands in front of herself. "Is he likely to be trying to find his way back to you or are you worried someone or something may have found their way to him first?"
there was a certain sense of panic that overtook any of those other emotions momentarily as soon as the woman realized she wasn't alone. there had been a lot of frustrating moments that had marred her traveling, but it seemed like they had all come to a head after months of stewing silently in her head. all over something as stupid as her dog running off when she'd pulled over to take a break.
' i... um. well, first things first, my dog's missing. he took off into the woods as soon as i opened the door and he never does this. ' that was a good place to start. everything else would take much longer to explain and she wasn't sure she completely understood it herself.
