You know what? When it comes down to it, I feel Jenna Marbles would ask me for my pronouns but Shane Dawson would call me a slur.

Hdhshdhdh I’m so tired of people defending blatant racism with ”it was a different time! They didn’t know better!”
Like, I’d buy that if it was about a 12-year old singing the n-word in a song in 2010, because, like, that’s obviously bad, but it can happen out of genuine ignorance and uneducation
But wearing full blackface in your 20s and calling a black woman the n-word to her face and to then say ”I have no hate in my heart” or whatever, is ridiculous. There was obviously hate involved. Maybe you’ve moved on, and educated yourself, and worked on getting over your racism, and I respect that, but dont pretend there weren’t any hate involved lol
Anyways, this is about Shane Dawson

So I heard we were canceling someone named Shane Dawson?
I looked him up and he's incredibly greasy, like he could really use Kylies skin care line for that.
I also heard he did blackface?
We dont stand for that in rhe Kardashian Jenner household.

I decided to look thru all of the threads on Shane Dawson’s old blog on Dailybooth so I could make this video pointing out everything that I found to be concerning, as well as my opinion on what it all says about Shane.

I understand they could have not put the whole scandal in the series, but if you remember on Twitter they had a hashtag “ShaneDawsonisoverparty” like right after the scandal so I think it has something to do with that. Then in the trailer there’s a part where Shane is on YouTube and the video says “James disses Shane” or something like that. My guess is that the drama he’s putting in is not only the j*mes scandal, but his own scandal he had that maybe coincides with it.
I lowkey remember when that happened & I seen that clip. What did James diss him for????

I didn't really try twitter, I'm just a fan of Shane Dawson and I researched this hashtag #shanedawsonisoverparty (the hashtag that was popular when people tried to cancel him because of a stupid joke he made years ago about how he slept with his cat, which he didn't) and people were so mean to each other like damn
I'm staying on tumblr
I’ll never go on twitter again, only for the Cure, the people there seem to be so mean and I’m sensitive when people get insulted

cancel culture
Throughout the past few years, many celebrities have been in hot water for something they have done in the past. It’s normal for a scandal to come and go, but this past decade has seen celebrities almost lose their careers for the most minuscule reasons.
“Cancel culture” is the act of removing someone’s fame or influence from them. It seems good in theory, but over time more celebrities have seen the negative attention cancel culture gives for mistakes they have addressed and moved on from.
One example of someone who has been “cancelled” before is Shane Dawson, a popular YouTube creator. His career has lasted over a decade, and his success has led to novels, merchandise, movies, and even makeup palettes under his name.
The internet in 2008 was a lot less politically correct than it is now. Comedians weren’t really watching what they were saying, and although they may not have had bad intentions for their jokes, nowadays we hear those same punchlines and cringe through a clamped jaw.
Shane Dawson was, at one point, the spokesperson for offensive humour. People loved his carelessness, and it was easy to recognize that Dawson wasn’t making genuine comments about the people he poked fun at. His alter ego “Shanaynay” is a caricatured “ghetto girl” who mimics the stereotypes of black women. The fake accent and exaggerated makeup led to the character being an iconic part of Dawson’s channel, appearing in multiple videos and getting millions of views. Nobody really found it offensive until years after he stopped making sketches for YouTube.
Dawson recognized that his characters and portrayals could easily be taken the wrong way, and 5 years ago he released an apology video on his channel. People suddenly started caring about the offensive skits and proceeded to boycott Shane Dawson. There’s even a hashtag so you can see every mistake he’s been “cancelled” for (#shanedawsonisoverparty). It’s true that society is constantly changing and we’re always learning from our past, but why did people only start giving Dawson’s sketches negative attention when it was all over?
Shane Dawson’s YouTube channel has seen many changes since 2008. After his scandals of being a supposed racist, he began making videos that were more friendly and common on the platform at the time. Some videos include: “GIANT BIRTHDAY CAKE MILKSHAKE!” and “MAKING A TINY CAKE FOR MY CAT”.
Nowadays Dawson recognizes that his “cancellation” shaped how he made videos from there on. He desperately tried to please the mobs with food and life hack videos, and when those stopped being popular he found himself stuck making uninspired content for about a year. He did end up finding a passion in filmmaking, and now his channel mostly consists of mini documentaries focused on various topics.
This whole situation shows how viewers often shape media, and we don’t truly realize how much impact we have. Celebrities and influencers could lose their careers in minutes thanks to the magic of social media, and the general public makes the decision of who gets to be on top.
