Random BL Superlatives: 2023

Well @lurkingshan did it, so I must do it. So here are some random, WKA themed superlatives for the 2023 BL selection.

Best Hands: Mhok and Day, Last Twilight

Listen. I know. I KNOW. There are so many incredible options, and I have written at length about a number of them. I mean come on, La Pluie is right there, I Feel You Linger in the Air is right there, Sing My Crush, Moonlight Chicken etc. etc. etc. But

But, Last Twilight came in with the steel chair right at the end of the year here with that FUCKING HANDSING SCENE. Can you blame me? The handsing scene is shrimply too powerful.

Best Lighting: Playboyy

You know, it's funny cause I don't usually end up writing about lighting in shows, despite the fact that lighting design is absolutely one of my favorite things in film, stage, and television. Chains of Heart has really interesting lighting too, but Playboyy is an objectively better show, and it is doing some absolutely gorgeous lighting design.

Best Sex Scene: Olive Oil, I Feel You Linger in the Air

THE OLIVE OIL SCENE, WHY ARE THERE NO GIFSETS OF THE OLIVE OIL SCENE? WHY IS TUMBLR SUCH A FUCKING HATER???? They didn't even fuck in that scene, but holy mother of GOD it was the best thing I've seen all year. I Feel You Linger in the Air has some of the most inventive and beautiful intimate moments, and spreading the olive oil as a stand in for arousal and masturbation was absolutely goddamn brilliant.

Best Faen (Non)Fatale: Porjai, Last Twilight

I know Last Twilight hasn't finished yet and will take us in to 2024, but Porjai and Mohk's relationship is absolutely my favorite lovers to friends dynamic I have seen this year. I was showering praise upon them all for this in the tags of a reblog today, so I have to give it to them. Massive shout out and extremely close call to Nara from La Pluie.

Best Emotional Roller Coaster: What Did You Eat Yesterday? Season 2

Ok there were quite a lot of shows that I think would have applied here, but man oh man this entire season has just run me through the wringer with how much Shiro has grown over the course of the last two seasons. Episode 11 had me laughing my ass off, and then absolutely sobbing by the end. So it's going to Kinou Nani Tabeta?

The Shirt I Want to Steal Most from Wardrobe: Blue and White Button Up, The Sign

I know this will be contentious when the Fart Proudly shirt is right there, but I really loved the blue and white button up shirt that Phaya wore I do not know what is in the water at IdolFactory, but they have hands down some of the best shirts I have ever seen. When I watched Secret Crush on You I wanted the entirety of Sky's wardrobe, now I am having shirt envy for this sexy little blue-with-white-lines-that-are-vaguely-rabbit-shaped (wka do not write a post about rabbits, do not write a post about rabbits-) button up.

The Character Who Most Changed my Opinion of Them: Phupa, OS2 x BBS x ATOTS

Okay, so to tell you the truth, I made new superlatives cause if I took the superlatives from @lurkingshan's post it would have been at least half the same if not more (because as always, Shan is right about everything). But, I will put an overlap here because I absolutely could not let this year go by without applauding Aof, Earth, and Phupa for really putting in the work to help me understand this man better.

The Show That Most Surprised Me: Wedding Plan by MAME

Okay not only was this show that I absolutely was not planning to watch or initially interested in actually one of the best of the year, but it was also a MAME show. And a lot of us have our critiques of MAME's writing, but this was so outside of her typical MO that I am shocked it came from the same writer. Love Sailom, love a Lavender Wedding, love Nuea, love it all.

The Trope This Year That Most Accounted for the Fact These Are Gay MEN: Boxing! Sing My Crush, Wedding Plan, The Sign

Sing My Crush did this the absolute best, but I really genuinely loved that multiple shows this year let men fight in controlled settings to get out some of their frustration and to process their feelings. Han Ba Ram crying in the gym? One of my favorite scenes of the entire year.

And yeah sure, Phaya and Tharn are fighting for the intricate rituals that allow men to touch the skin of men, we get the horny vibes, but fundamentally this fight does occur because Tharn is angsty and ignoring Phaya and that cannot stand. I like seeing Phaya sparring with the punching bag at the end of the most recent episode as well because he's fucking furious about Tharn telling the doctor about his dreams. I love it, I love it so much.

What Did You Eat Yesterday? 2 Ep 4 Stray Thoughts

Last week, we had the Halloween episode! We got the backstory on Kohinata and Wataru and learned that Wataru's dad had disowned him a long time ago. Kenji reprised his suit costume from the movie and accommodated Shiro's normal dress. Wataru thought he dressed as a wolf, but he just looked like a cat; Kohinata was way into it. Kenji makes them wear their rings when they visit Kohinata and Wataru. Later, Shiro's parents planned for their storage of their remains and offered a place for Kenji. Kenji took this offering for what it was and recontextualized his relationship with Shiro's mom to be a daughter-in-law who wasn't liked by her mother-in-law. This is clearly an upgrade for Kenji.

Oh lord the manager's side piece is coming back.

I like when shows just casually incorporate an actress's pregnancy into a show.

I agree with Shan. The new intro song is not growing on me.

I like the relationship Kenji has with the manager, and I like that he can chide him directly for his behavior.

Oo-sensei is determined to make Shiro take over the firm.

I feel like we should have a bigger discussion about the changing labor culture in Japan that Shiro's desire to leave work on time is now the current wave.

This man invited Kenji to his home for food? DANGER.

It's actually really fun seeing someone new cook, even if he's very much a man who doesn't think he should do any chores.

Thankfully I made pasta yesterday so I'm not getting hit with a craving.

I really hope Tabuchi reconciles with Chinami and just starts doing more of their cooking. He's clearly better at it.

Thank you, Kenji. Food as love means Chinami definitely felt bad that her food couldn't make Tabuchi feel her love.

I'm actually glad Reiko is leaving the manager. He's a mess and she wasn't happy.

Shiro and Kenji have come a long way. Neither of them got jealous about that dinner, and Shiro is speaking openly about potentially taking over the firm.

And now it comes home. It's about making food for those you love, and then telling the ones who cooked you enjoyed their food.

I really enjoy this version of Shiro and Kenji. They're so much fun in this nesting phase.

2. Least favorite whump trope(s)? I'm really not into whump with a whumper or pet whump. 

3. Top 3 whump scenes and why? No.6 episode 11. Oh man, this whole episode goes so hard, if you know, you know Detective Conan Chapter 251-254. I remember obsessively rereading these chapters as a 8yo kid No third place because there are 100 scenes fighting for the 3rd place in my head so I'll leave this empty

4. Top 3 characters to whump and why? Lance from Voltron. I love goofballs getting whumped. The switch between their goofy personalities to just pain, yes. Kaeya from Genshin. If anyone has good whump fanfics, please send them this way. This man is a walking whumpee Can't think of a 3rd character so I'll say my OC Birb 

5. Favorite fandom for whump (show, series, etc)? Anime/manga, animated show (Voltron, Avatar, in these kind of styles where adults look like adults) or Webtoons

Strands into the Abyss

Shiro sat on the edge of the cliff, his legs dangling freely over the grey ocean.

No one ever came up here, because it was too dangerous. A short distance away, the steep drop began to level out, so the fall was not so dangerous. A little farther, and it was more a hill than a cliff. But this high up, a fall would almost certainly kill. Especially if it was during low tide, when there was nothing below but sharp gravel and pebbles and rocks. Even during high tide, when the tide was in, as it was now, it would be an unpleasant landing. Drowning, maybe. Or landing on the sharp rocks that were almost, but not quite, concealed beneath the water, the water not being deep enough to break a fall. Or falling in, surviving, scrambling your way out to the relative safety of shore, and dying the next week from hypothermia or pneumonia as you shivered your way into the shadows of death, your lungs full of water.

Couldn’t be any worse than your lungs full of smoke, could it?

Nothing grew up here. The land here was barren. Some scattered nearly-dead weeds and some scattered blades of dry, brown grass, that’s all there was. The rest was simply flat stone and pebbles dry, dead dirt. That was another reason no one came up here. There was nothing that could be of use here. There was simply no point.

So he sat up here, alone, in solitude, in peace.

Ha.

A murderer, he was.

The barrier shimmered in the distance. It looked almost beautiful, from here, almost pretty, sparkling in the rays of the sun outside, but Shiro knew from experience that it was as hard as glass, and even more impenetrable. Everyone on the Isle knew it. There was no point in even trying to break through it. Their parents had tried and failed in the early days of the barrier, over and over and over.

He’d been fifteen years old, half drunk on tiredness and hyperactivity and a stolen can of beer, and he’d had the brilliant idea: Why don’t I burn the barrier down?

It had seemed so smart and plausible. Of course it had.

Why hadn’t anyone thought of doing this before? He would destroy the barrier! Burn the barrier to nothing but shimmery magical ashes, and he would be free, everyone would be free, Auradon would be theirs-

It turned out that the reason no one had ever tried to burn the barrier was because setting a fire right at the very edge of the area enclosed by a magical barrier, leaving the fire nowhere to spread but inwards, was a terrible idea. Who would have guessed it? Not Shiro, it turned out. Oh, and it turned out that the barrier itself was indestructible, but the high concentration of magic right near fire turned explosive.

The force and the heat knocked Shiro backward, and he’d opened his eyes, his head throbbing, to see flames engulfing the Tremaine manor.

Sharp-tongued Lady Tremaine. Harsh Drizella Tremaine. Meek, iron-cored Anastasia Tremaine. Anthony’s sisters. Dizzy’s sisters. Diana and Debbie and Driffa and Daphne....

Every one of them, dead. All dead. In the fire he had started.

And now everyone hated Shiro. The Tremaines had been a large extended family. Almost every teenage crew or gang on the Isle had had one Tremaine girl in it. Now they were all dead, at his hand, so he was an outcast, a pariah. No one wanted anything to do with him.

It could have been worse, he supposed. Anthony Tremaine, one of the only two survivors, could have killed him.

(Would that have been worse?)

Anthony Tremaine had dragged a half-conscious Dizzy out of the fire as Dizzy’s father Hans had run in, attempting to reach his other daughters. Hans had been away from his nominal home as often as he’d been there, but when he saw the hungry flames devouring everything they could reach he’d run right in, intent on saving his daughters. And he’d died, without saving a single one of Dizzy’s sisters, for only moments after he had entered the house the beams holding up the roof had snapped, burned through, weakened so that the weight was too much for them, and the roof had fallen in.

He whispered their names to himself. “Anya Tremaine. Stacy Tremaine. Debbie Tremaine. Diana Tremaine. Daphne Tremaine....”

The grey waves below looked almost peaceful. Back, and forth, and back, and forth. He wished he felt like that.

He stared blankly downward, a turbulent mess of black guilt and misery and self-loathing strangling him from the inside.

The water could almost wash it all away, couldn’t it? And if not, there were the rocks.

A small hand slipped into his. The warmth startled him. He hadn’t realized how cold he was.

He looked over into the eyes of ten-year-old Dizzy Tremaine. She looked strange somehow, and it took him a moment to realize it was because she was the only person he’d seen in a while who wasn’t looking at him with hatred or disgust.

She looked unusually solemn. Of course she did.

Shiro withdrew his hand from hers. “Go away,” he said, his voice hoarse. “You shouldn’t be here. Go, leave.” It was too dangerous. She might fall into the water. Besides, if Anthony found out that his beloved cousin Dizzy, his sole surviving relative, had been anywhere within a hundred meters of Shiro, Shiro wouldn’t live out the day.

Dizzy shrugged and slipped her hand back into his. They sat there for a while, staring out over the grey ocean waves, both of them thinking of nothing.

A GakuYuki Mulan AU

This is a story that’s been on my mind for some time now and my GakuYuki heart has been starving for some new content, so like a good shipper, I will feed it.

Note: Very long post.

Cast:

The picks for the lead roles are obvious. (This is a GakuYuki story after all), but I wanna talk about the trio for a bit.

I had considered giving these roles to the Terasaka gang. (Terasaka/Yao, Muramatsu/Ling, and Yoshida/Chien-Po), but honestly, I think Araki, Seo, and Koyama were better candidates. Seo just fits the role of Yao.

I know Chien-Po is a sweetheart, but the character book states that Araki is gentle-mannered (Though he still looks down on those he deems inferior.) I just feel like he’d fit the role.

I had considered making Ren Ling, but if I remember correctly (I haven’t watched Mulan in ages, so my memory’s pretty hazy.) Ling doesn’t have the best luck attracting girls. (I may reconsider this decision. Poor Ren’s the only one of the Big Five who doesn’t have a role in this story.) I also feel like Yuuji would fit this role, but it doesn’t feel quite right to have him with Seo and Araki, even if this is an AU.

More Characters:

I’ll be completely honest, I wasn’t completely okay with making Karma Mushu, because as funny as it is to have Karma say “Dishonor on your cow!”, let’s be real, Karma is nothing like Mushu. I actually considered giving this role to either Rio or Okajima, who I honestly feel like fits the role better. (There was that one scene where Mushu tells Mulan he can see through her armor and Mulan covers her chest and knocks him to the ground; I can definitely see Okajima doing that.)

Ultimately though, I decided on Karma after deciding to do some changes, which I’ll talk about later.

Nagisa as a cute, little cricket; no explanation needed. 

Hiromi as the matchmaker, because who else? 

Shiro as Shan Yu because I can't think of anyone else (Though, maybe Takaoka would fit the role as well). Shiro may not seem like a fighter, but he was willing to die for the sake of revenge.

Other Characters:

Gakuhou: Obviously General Li. Not sure if I’ll kill him off though.

Matsutaka: I’m torn between making him the emperor or the first ancestor.

Ono: Chi-Fu.

Karasuma and Korosensei: I’d like to add them in the story, but I honestly have no idea which roles best suit them.

Changes:

Unlike Fa Zhou, Yukiko’s father isn’t the only man in the family. I have a few scenarios for her brother:

First scenario: He’s dead, either due to illness, or in a previous war.

Second scenario: He’s alive, but Yukiko’s grandmother isn’t. Yukiko doesn’t want to lose another loved one, so she goes instead, pretending to be him. (He’s not happy about that.) In this case, her brother would take the role of Mulan’s grandmother.

Third Scenario: He’s alive and is enlisted, but Yukiko doesn’t want to lose another loved one, so she pretends to be a man from another family (Maybe Yada’s family since her brother’s sick and her father’s too old for war) just to protect him. Her brother finds out and is angry at her for this (Now that I think about it, it does sound outrageous for Yukiko to do this, but she doesn’t want to lose another loved one, so...yeah.)

Honestly, the first scenario seems like the best  and easiest option since it keeps the story faithful to the movie.

Now for Karma and Nagisa. Like I mentioned, Karma is nothing like Mushu, so I decided make some changes:

So, Karma is a lazy, mischievous dragon who gets into a lot of trouble. Despite that, he’s very clever and can be serious when he wants to be. So, when Yukiko sets off to war, one of the ancestors (Either Korosensei or Karasuma) convinces the first ancestor to let Karma go after her, rather than call on the Great Stone Dragon. This ancestor (Again, either Korosensei, or Karasuma) sees Karma’s potential and hopes that this mission will make a Karma a great and responsible dragon. 

Nagisa; I have two scenarios for him: 

Scenario 1: He’s a normal cricket, and his role in the story is the same as Cri-kee. (I call it the happy scenario because then, Hiromi won’t be his mom, yay!)

Scenario 2: Nagisa is the son of the matchmaker, and sadly, this means his backstory is the same as canon. One difference however, is that Hazama, his childhood friend who practices witchcraft, convinces him to run away with her from their abusive homes. They are caught, brought back home, and severely punished. Hazama sneaks into Nagisa’s room one night and is horrified to see that Hiromi....had done a serious number on her son. She panics and decides to use magic to quickly heal his wounds, but because she’s not yet experienced in healing magic, she accidentally transforms him into a cricket (On the bright side, his wounds are healed.)

Hazama hides the cricket Nagisa in her room and tries to undo the spell, but to no avail. One day, Nagisa accidentally leaps into the Kanzaki family’s garden and is found by Yukiko’s grandmother, who keeps him and treats him kindly. Hazama befriends Yukiko for the sole purpose of retrieving Nagisa, but after seeing how Nagisa is being loved cared for by Yukiko’s grandmother, she decides to leave him there until she finds away to break the spell. In the meantime, she still visits Yukiko, initially just to check on Nagisa, but then later, she and Yukiko become very close friends. Where am I going with this? I have no idea, I’m still developing this story.

Truthfully, I’m not planning on writing this, at least not at the moment. I might someday, but until then, I’ll just keep on daydreaming of Gakushuu singing I’ll make a man out of you.

Organization XIII in the Manga

First off, I hate how Organization XIII is depicted in the CoM manga and (presumably because the CoM-exclusive members are present) the first few chapters of the Days manga. In the games, the whole appeal was that this was a dark, twisted conspiracy and the machinations of its members against the heroes and against each other gave the events an edgier, more adult feeling while still remaining appropriate for kids. And that’s not just personal experience talking, that comes straight from the game developers!

But for the aforementioned parts of the manga, the Organization is written like an immature college fraternity; with the conflict between the upper floors and lower floors of Castle Oblivion portrayed like two feuding cliques. I get that Shiro Amano’s a gag manga guy first and foremost, but I don’t think there is a worse story in the KH series than CoM to apply this kind of tone to. It just neuters all its staying power.

For the remainder of the Days manga (after Roxas’ brief stint in a coma) and all of the KH2 manga, the Organization is depicted well. They maintain a serious and threatening side while also being more successfully humorous because the college frat depiction has been traded in for a depiction of...well, an organization. A corporate organization, to be precise, which is kind of what the Days video game already began portraying them as. Now the humor flows organically from these sinister villains scheming and working toward evil aims completely straight...all while utilizing standard corporate procedure and utilities. Their initial meeting after paying Sora a visit in Hollow Bastion, for example, is almost word for word what it is in KH2:FM...but now they’re holding food and drinks, which they dispose of in a labeled recycling bin afterward. Later, Demyx is sent on his mission to the Underworld while attempting to cook dinner in a kitchen microwave, and when he returns is dismayed to find that it’s been overcooked. See, that stuff I love! Good on Shiro Amano on recognizing the correct way to utilize gags with these characters.

However, there is still the matter of said characters.

Discounting Roxas and Xion (who are great, btw), the villainous members of Organization XIII can be divided in half: the half that are written and depicted consistently well, and the half that...isn’t.

THE GOOD HALF:

Xemnas - 100% in character; diabolical and terrifying. There can be jokes made about him (ex: he just stands and worships Kingdom Hearts on his day-off), but he himself is never used for jokes.

Xigbar - Like in the games, Xigbar is a good balance between menacing and comical, and is honestly fleshed out a lot better. I hated him straight-up executing Shan Yu, though, that was way too out of place tonally. At least his showing in TWTNW made up for it.

Lexaeus - In the games, he was my least favorite out of the members who died at Castle Oblivion. Ironically, he’s my favorite here!  The puzzle-solving gag that Amano gives him is a great way to show his “Genius Brute” nature, and his scene with Roxas in the Days manga actually treats him seriously and shows off his fundamental decency. I wish we could have seen him fight on-panel, though.

Saix - Excellently portrayed, keeping him mostly serious but able to get some great, appropriate comedy out of him via The Comicaly Serious / Surrounded By Idiots tropes. I especially love that because the Days manga was made in its entirety before the second half of the KH2 manga, Amano was able to reflect the development he got there in his characterization and his final battle with Sora / Roxas.

Axel - Axel was portrayed totally straight as a threatening villain in the CoM manga and the KH2 manga’s prologue. In the Days manga, he was depicted with the ideal depth: being silly and likable much of the time but flawed and intense when the occasion called for it. What really impresses me about this version of Axel, though, is that Amano made his role in KH2′s main story actually feel meaningful and organic - not being shoehorned in like in the game or unnaturally fixated on to the point where it suffocates more important things like in the novels. Again, the Days manga being made before the KH2 manga was completed helped. This might be Axel at his best, IMO.

Luxord - With Luxord, Amano maintained the smart, stylish, polite and charismatic gambler demeanor while also adding a dorky undercurrent used for gags frequently that gives him a greater sense of humanity and relatability. The only flaw he has is that Port Royal and his role in it gets excised in the KH2 manga which means he only unhoods himself in TWTNW, but even then there’s a hilarious fourth-wall joke lampshading this very flaw. Also, the lack of him vs. Jack Sparrow is more than made up for with him vs. Jiminy Cricket.

THE BAD HALF:

Xaldin - As a character, Xaldin is a joke in the manga, having his gruff jerkassness and denial of truly feeling anything flanderized for laughs, except that it’s not funny. Worse, as a villain, Xaldin isn’t Xaldin - he’s game!Zexion: a smug schemer who uses mind games on someone to get them to give into the darknesss, only to be curb-stomped by that person which causes him to retreat only to be killed by a replica immediately afterward. Amano, what the actual Hell!?

Vexen - Look, I know that Vexen is ripe for comedy due to having what Nomura described as a definite “loser feel” to him. But the comedy Amano does with him is just too broad. When Vexen is constantly overreacting to everything while looking like a total Gonk, then it is impossible to take him seriously even when he objectively has a very serious role to play in the story! And making him this big of a loser misses the point that his loserness causes him to have a “scary side” to him as he strives to live up to his own insecure ego. Also, the Vexen replica in the KH2 manga was utterly pointless; it only exists because Amano wanted to draw more Gonk Vexen. Sigh.

Zexion - I didn’t care that much for Zexion in the games, but he deserves better than to be portrayed as an OCD domestic type who is also a complete wuss that gets straight-up murdered by Riku in one blow, making a bad joke as he dies (”S-such a cutting remark!”)

Demyx - Demyx is actually fine when jokes are made with him, since he’s the type who easily lends himself to those jokes. Shockingly, his downfall is that Amano goes too seriously with him, making him this good friend to Roxas who really misses him and doesn’t want to fight Sora due to this friendship rather than laziness or cowardice, and who dies a graphic death (impaled by icicles!), shedding tears as he fades away. Again I ask of Amano: what the actual HELL!? This is the kind of needless woobification of Demyx I expect from fanfic writers, not from actual published material! Also, him surviving all the way to TWTNW just throws off the pacing both of the finale and in regards to the Organization, since now Xaldin is the only one to die beforehand and he does so very early in! This was just an all-around misfire.

Marluxia - Marluxia controls flowers, so sadly Amano took the most stereotypical route possible by making him an effeminate, fabulous joke of a villain up until the last minute where he, out of nowhere, becomes this violent, psychotic thug causing tonal whiplash. As such a good villain in the CoM game, Marluxia deserved so much better.

Larxene - I like her introduction, where she’s just chilling on a sofa and reading a book on the Marquis de Sade. She is also accurately portrayed during both her hallway encounters with Sora. But in every other scene, she’s stuck in permanent, played-for-laughs PMS mode. This goes against her character from the games, which is always happily sadistic until her temper flares up, and when it does it manifests as either comedic villainous sass or terrifying murderous rage; never this “ha, she’s such an angry bitch, isn’t it funny?” mood. Also...killed by a fucking sprinkler system!? No. Bad Amano!

Overall, I prefer the Organization XIII of the games, but there is still a lot of good to be found with them in the Days and KH2 mangas.

The one thing Debbie was ever afraid of was spiders. Something her siblings found hilarious.

Delanie and Dixie are twins, and get along like peanut butter and jelly. They are the best at braiding and always helped their cousin, Tega, do hers.

They love sewing, knitting, crochet, floral design, and embroidery but they also have their own separate hobbies.

Delanie collected bugs and solved puzzles while Dixie did scrapbooking and Calligraphy.

They like their siblings work at Curl up and dye but they also run a spa out of their home as a side Hustle.

Delanie is scared of snakes and heights.

Dixie is scared of blood and worms.

Yes, this results in many many mean pranks by those who know about said fear of snakes and worms.

Dotty, like Dizzy, is a sweetheart though she can be a bit mean spirited at times as well.

Dotty makes dresses for her dollies and does their makeup and hair.

She loves playing various games, helping out at Curl up and dye, and climbing on things.

She's afraid of the dark and of the tooth fairy and Santa clause because of a mean prank Dorothy, Cormac, and Iggy played on her when she was very little.

The Stabbington brothers' real names are Runo and Rudi Westergaard. Yes, they're Hans' older brothers.

They are number 7 and 8 respectively.

Rudi is the one People refer to as Patchy and Runo is the one people call Sideburns.

Runo/Sideburns married Lady Caine and Rudi/Patchy married Madame Medusa for some unfathomable reason.

No one knows why. And he never gives a reason when he's asked.

Runo and Caine have 2 kids together—Cormac and Tega in that order.

Rudi and Medusa have 3 kids together—Darlina, Iggy, and Rex in that order.

Though only few people know that those are their names since they go by nicknames all of the time.

Cormac goes by "Brunet" because of the color of his hair and Tega goes by "Braids" because her hair is always braided.

Darlina goes by Greeny because of her startlingly green eyes, Iggy goes by Cheekbones because of his prominent Cheekbones, and Rex goes by nosey because of his pointy nose.

Greeny is responsible and bossy, and a no nonsense type of girl who is a master thief. She was the one—aside from Hans and Lady Caine—who took care of the family horses the most.

Cheekbones is a sarcastic, impulsive, cheeky boy who is slightly narcissistic. He is a prankster who can be a bit mean spirited and Greeny's twin. He is always driving her nuts.

Nosey is a shy, meek, introverted bookworm who likes making things and playing board games. He also likes astrology.

Braids is a multi-talented sweetheart who enjoys cooking, gardening, and taking care of animals. She usually hangs out with Rex, Dotty, Delanie, and Dixie.

Brunet is a nerdy party animal prankster who is easily excitable. Bad decisions is his middle name.

Greeny is scared of her siblings getting hurt or dying on her watch.

Cheekbones is scared of being disfigured.

Nosey is afraid of being noticed by people. He just wants to go through life without getting into trouble.

Braids is afraid of her hair getting caught in a propeller or machinery.

Brunet is scared that he'll drink so much one of these days, go to sleep, and never wake up again.

She went on to adopt four kids—Ellie, Colombe, Felix, and Francis.

Ironically, four of them became pirates but to different crews.

Anthony (21) joined Harriet's Crew.

Aaron (19) joined Uma's crew.

Amara (16) joined an all girl's crew along with Anya (12).

Lady Tremaine did not like this at all because she says it's a stain on their good family name.

None of the kids care. Their parents don't either.

Anthony is in love with Harriet.

Aaron has no love life and just likes drinking and singing and dancing. Piratey things.

Amara is a fiery redhead like her brothers who fights so much that her mouth is nearly full of Silver teeth. She loves fake magic and is fun loving. Oh and she taught Dizzy a lot of what the little girl knows.

Anya loves gardening and often helps braids fix up her garden. She also loves swimming and reading. Oh and she's an absolute tattle tell who almost always gets the older kids in trouble for swearing.

Anthony is afraid of being disfigured and losing his family.

Aaron is afraid of letting Uma down and of his mom getting hurt. He's also scared of being a familiar.

Amara is afraid of curses but that's about it.

Anya is afraid of King Beast and Maleficent.

The other 4 died.

Runo and Rudi, like the rest of their brothers sans Lars, were horribly abusive towards Hans in their younger years.

They ran away from home at 15 and the longer they were away from the southern isles, the more they realized just how messed up their lives were.

They eventually made up with Hans after running into him when he escaped the southern isles once and for all.

It took time but they managed it eventually, even if Hans was still a bit wary around them.

They encouraged his relationship with Drizella because it made him happy. They soon regretted this when they began living with her and when they got stuck living with her on the isle.

The twins met Medusa and Caine in a bar on the isle and eventually they started dating them.

Unfortunately for Rudi/Patchy, Medusa is just as bad and annoying as Drizella. Especially now that her crocodiles have left her.

Medusa and Drizella have nearly killed their kids several times.

Only to be stopped by Anastasia, The twins, Caine, and Hans every time.

They only stayed together because of the kids because if they left, they'd be homeless and the kids wouldn't be under their protection.

Caine, Patchy, Sideburns, and Hans also work at Curl up and dye but they have side jobs as well.

Like Caine and Sideburns running a bar for instance.

And Patchy running a self-defense course that people have to pay for.

Hans makes weapons.

Patchy fights with Medusa just as often as Hans fights with Drizella. Which is to say almost daily.

Anya looks like her father, the Baker, Jacob Lathyn.

The Tremaine-Westergaard- Stabbington family has several pets.

6 horses and 7 cats.

The cats' names are L, Lord, Liar, Luci, Lu, Lucifer, and Lily.

The horses' names are Sitron, Saturn, Satrina, Axel, Ace, and Arrow.

Also they are distantly related to Nancy Tremaine.

Dizzy and Anthony are the only known human survivors of the Tremaine fire.

The Tremaine fire was caused by a drunken Shan Shiro who was trying to set the barrier on fire.

Dizzy was in her room when the fire started. Anthony was asleep on the couch.

Drizella, Anastasia, Lady Tremaine, and Medusa were all in their rooms when it started. And were fast asleep.

Hans and his two brothers were fast asleep at the table, having fallen asleep while trying to clean up after the party.

The fire happened on Anastasia's birthday. One of the few nights a year where everyone is in the same house as one another.

Delanie and Dixie were asleep in their bed, hair braided and expired face masks on.

Aaron was drunk in his room and singing some old sea shanties.

Anya, Braids, Nosey, and Dotty were all asleep in the corner of Nosey and Braids' rooms after deciding to have an impromptu sleepover that Dizzy wasn't allowed to participate in because she was too little.

Nosey's face was buried in a book, Dotty was drowning in her dolls, and Braids and Anya were snuggling with one of the foals they had managed to sneak in when the adults weren't looking.

Dorothy, Cormac, and Iggy were in the attic, plotting a prank and giggling as they chugged some booze they had snagged from Aaron's stash.

Daphne was listening to music, dozing off while Debbie snored loudly in her bed beside her.

Dizzy was under her bed, fast asleep after crying herself to sleep because of her cousins excluding her from her sleepover.

And finally, Darlina was out in the barn, having fallen asleep while grooming the horses.

Anthony will never forgive Shiro. Never. He refuses to. He hates him for what he's done.

Mainly because Shiro waited four months to tell him he had done it and not Daphne.

Everyone had thought Daphne had started the fire until Shiro admitted he did it.

Anthony has never felt more betrayed than he did in that moment.

Dizzy is the only one who doesn't hate Shiro. Even though she was hurt by what he did just as much as Anthony.

Neither of them have ever been the same since they lost their family.

Anthony stopped cooking after the fire. He actually stopped doing most things.

And Dizzy? Well, let's just say she doesn't do anything that involves fire.. ever.

What do you think would happen if Mulan and Shang met Shan Yu's 3 kids-- Desiree and Simon (in Uma's crew) and Shan Shiro?

I'm not actually sure. On the one hand, Mulan wants to judge them favorably as best she can. On the other hand, they are the children of Shan Yu, who led an army against her homeland and killed I don't even know how many people ruthlessly ("the little girl will be missing her doll....") and also takes honor seriously, so he may have raised his children to seek vengeance. Back on the first hand, they're just kids. Back on the other hand, she wasn't that much older than them when she joined the army. And they're pirates who kidnapped the king. And if this is the same universe as the Tremaine fire....
