Whump Challenge
I got tagged by @whump-captain to participate in the challenge. If you see this and want to participate, feel free! Don't by shy~ 1. Favorite whump trope(s)? Anything that'll make a whumpee bleed from the side. Shot, stabbed, you name it !
2. Least favorite whump trope(s)? I'm really not into whump with a whumper or pet whump.
3. Top 3 whump scenes and why? No.6 episode 11. Oh man, this whole episode goes so hard, if you know, you know Detective Conan Chapter 251-254. I remember obsessively rereading these chapters as a 8yo kid No third place because there are 100 scenes fighting for the 3rd place in my head so I'll leave this empty
4. Top 3 characters to whump and why? Lance from Voltron. I love goofballs getting whumped. The switch between their goofy personalities to just pain, yes. Kaeya from Genshin. If anyone has good whump fanfics, please send them this way. This man is a walking whumpee Can't think of a 3rd character so I'll say my OC Birb
5. Favorite fandom for whump (show, series, etc)? Anime/manga, animated show (Voltron, Avatar, in these kind of styles where adults look like adults) or Webtoons
6. Do you prefer written or watchable whump? Watchable but I also enjoy written
7. Do you also like hurt/comfort? Hell yes !
8. What do you think the difference between hurt/comfort and whump is? Hurt/comfort : gentle pat pat to soothe the pain Whump : stab stab to do the pain
9. How would you explain whump to someone who’s not familiar with it? Angst but add pain, blood and injuries to it.
10. Is there any old whump you particularly enjoy? (say, pre 2000?) It's gonna be 2000 exactly : Mulan. The moment when she realised she got hurt by Shan Yu.
11. Why do you think you like whump? Good question it's always been there since I was really young.
12. When did you realize you liked whump? Never, as mentioned before, it kinda was there all the time.
13. Favorite posts with whump (gifsets, picspams, etc) ✨Art✨
14. Are you “out” to people in real life? My bff know that I love "angst" especially when it's bloody. I think I told them once that I found the whump community, but I'm sure I didn't say the word whump specifically
15. How did you find the whump community? I was probably looking at "injured" or similar tags until I think I found an anime whump gifset and connected the dots when I saw the tag "whump"
16. Any unusual mediums you like for whump (plays, music, vlogs, etc)? Stock photos. With enough imaginations, lots of things can be whumpy. It's like using a filter but with your brain.
17. Any meta about whump you’ve been dying to share? None that I think of at the moment.
18. Whump fic(s) you’d love to see? I'd love to read some Thoma whump from Genshin Impact. Haven't check now if there's something new with him
19. Whump you’re looking forward to? (Maybe something teased or something you haven’t seen yet?) I am well fed with whump at the moment 👌
20. Top 3 favorite whump fics? Oh god. I never save fics and then regret it when I want to read them again. The Purity of Sin by IcyPanther. I red it in one sitting before going to bed and then I realized it's 4am when I was finished There was a fanfic with Lance getting pneumonia while being stranded with Shiro and I can't find it ;-; A fic with my fem!Hawkle and Fenris my bff wrote me a few years ago 👌
21. Tropes you think are overdone? Whumper/Whumpee and captive whump. Let whumpees be hurt by nature in the wild far from any humans for a change.
22. Tropes you think we could use more of? Environmental whump or whump without a whumper.
23. Favorite sites/archives for consuming whump? Tumblr, AO3, Pinterest, Youtube
24. Have your whump preferences changed recently? If so, why? Recently nothing has changed, but I'm always down to explore new tropes. Like I did with a tiny whumpee some times ago

Prompt 14: Counting
The one thing that surprises Otabek the most when it comes to Yuri, is that the younger man wavers, just a bit, before each competition. Performance anxiety, Katsuki Yuuri explains, though Otabek is more than able to work that out, and more than able to see it isn't just that. Yuri usually deals with it alone; in the seconds before he's due on the ice, but one day, Beka walks into the changing rooms, and simply pulls him into his arms, murmuring, counting helps, Yura. Count with me now, da? Forward, then backward, then forward again. After that, Yuri would go to Beka when he needs the assurance, but he doesn't because Otabek is automatically there before each competition, and together they count - even when its over the phone and miles away from each other, until Yuri feels like himself again.

1. Stoic, proud, defiant and very rich king or politician, who was captured, beaten and brutally tortured, but he endured it with dignity and mental discipline, refused to scream and beg. 2. Broken, crying and pitiful whumpee. Definitely. 3. Death of Sir Gwylym Manthyr (”Safehold” Dawid Weber)- hopeless sacrifice in Inquisition’s dungeon after months of pain, humiliation and killing his people in front of him. Manthyr, one of the best navy’s commander in his land, didn’t talk to the bitter end, endured this hell with calm, cold dignity. Just before he died (public, terrible execution), he spat in to face of Great Inquisitor. 4. Rich businessman, who are not specially honest, maybe has connections with mafia (or he is secretly a biggest mafia boss); lives in luxury, has billions dollars etc. but when he was captured (or arrested by police), helpless and without his subordinates, he become a very tough s.o.b., could survive in prison, eat everything, never complain or beg etc. 5. Harry Potter- Severus Snape and aurors, kidnapped aurors, Snape in Azkaban. 6. I prefer written. 7. Yes, but whumpee have to deserve to comfort. 8. I don’t know. I like every history with my favorite type of whumpee. 12. Always, but for many years I have been thinking, that I’m the only person, who like reading about statesmen, army’s commanders and the other noble people, who are in trouble. 17. The Lion's Last Standby The Runes Master. 18. Long story about interrogation and death of Rufus Scrimgeour (Minister of Magic in Harry Potter).
Hello everyone, and sorry for my languages, I’m from East Europe and I’m still learning English.

4. Top 3 characters to whump and why?
Currently, I'd say: Merlin (from BBC), Danny and Chris (both from @ashintheairlikesnow)
There's so many incredible characters I follow , and so many amazing writers, but these past few weeks these three have kept most of my attention

WHUMP CHALLENGE! Day 3 & 4
THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR: Naruto Shippuden (anime), Teen Wolf, My Hero Academia (anime) and Danny Phantom (I like my cartoons okay)
Missed Day 3: favorite whump scenes and why
I dont know if the intention is to provide specific examples from media or just general types of scenes... but since I could never choose even 3 favorite examples, I'm gonna go with 3 types of scenes with an example.
1 - Whumpee is expecting to be hurt by someone new in their life, maybe they even have very good plausible reasons for this, but the other person subverts this expectation. (Thank you @marty-mia-matt for your post because now I know how to put it into words). An example would be when Yar (OC belonging to @umikochannart) is first discovered by his human lover whose name I've suddenly forgotten. Yar isn't exactly a whumpee but the scene still fits.
2 - A whumpee is forced to watch helplessly while a loved one is hurt or killed. Example, when Naruto is pinned to the ground by Pain and has to watch Hinata face him alone.
3 - Whumpee is forced to hurt other people. Example, Void!Stiles running Scott through with a katana.
Day 4: favorite characters to whump and why.
This changes but currently:
1) Shouto Todoroki from My Hero Academia. Because his Canon backstory makes it so damn easy. And also, I didnt like him at first and then I did. I like his character progression. I like that he has some "negative" qualities. He has anger issues, he has trouble socializing, he is aloof and somewhat cold toward other characters at first and when he does start making friends, he's doesn't take shit from others but he does it in a really calm, matter of fact kind of way. He enjoys helping people with simple things.
2) Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf
Because he is the sweetest, most loyal, goofy, genuinely caring Best Friend a person could ever have. He has had so much trauma in the show, its really more about the aftermath and the recovery for me but zfjdksgdk I love it all. I dont even know what I'm saying anymore.. Plus, Dylan O'brien is cute... that HAIR!
3) Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom
Because he's half-ghost and there is so much opportunity for really dark horror. Captivity, experimentation/vivisection, body horror, drama around the identity reveal, the constant sleep deprivation, his compulsion to protect people.

Whump Challenge, Day 7
Do you also like hurt/comfort?
Yes! It's about as light as my writing gets these days (I used to be quite the fluffmeister, but lately I don't seem to respond to stories that don't involve pain somehow lol).
See y'all tomorrow

#whumpchallenge Day 11: Why do you think you like whump?
I have, in the past, come up with various excuses and outwardly satisfactory logic to explain away why I enjoy whump. In all reality, when it comes down to it, it’s that gut-twisting, hitched-breath, heart-all-aflutter, stomach-leaping-into-my-throat feeling i get when i see chillingly good whump. i can’t explain it. it’s not something sexual, it’s not emotional, it’s not intellectual attraction. it’s just a sudden rush, like driving fast over a hill, jumping from a swing, waking from a dream where you’re falling. it’s a rush. a wonderful, freaky rush.

1. Favorite whump trope(s)?
There are a lot of tropes I love. In general I’m more into physical whump than emotional, although I love it when physical whump leads to emotional issues.
I love hospitals, a character being rushed to the ER, their discomfort and frustration at being trapped in a hospital for weeks as they slowly heal. I’ve used amputation a lot; I love the combination of major pain during the injury itself and the following long road to recovery and adjusting to life after this major change to their bodies.
I’m really into old-fashioned, especially medieval, whump. Torturers in history were more creative with causing pain than I ever will be! I’m especially fond of the rack.
And I will always be happier with a whump scene if the victim is bound, gagged, or - preferably - both.

Whump Challenge: Day 1
Favorite Whump Tropes
Restraints Really if the whumpee is restrained in any way, I’m happy. Anything from ropes around the wrists to strapped at multiple points across the body will do! Kind of loses points in visual mediums if you can tell the restraints wouldn’t hold at all if tested, or it’s really obvious the whumpee is fighting against nothing ((I’m looking at you, OUAT)). Because then it borders on comical.
Strangling Or alternatively, choking. I’ve got a soft spot for this, I guess. By rope, by hand, by magic…by literal lack of air? Yes please.
Fever I’m a sucker for a good fever. Bring me all your tired, sweaty, out-of-it, miserable whumpees. I will happily take them in.
Labored Breathing Whether from sickness, injury, fear, arousal or just from running, give me this. I am 110% in favor of all heaving chests. I try to write this into just about any fic, even if it isn’t whumpy lol.
Crying Also related – whimpering. This applies more for male whumpees for me, but I’m not picky. Watery and/or bloodshot eyes, a tremble in the voice, an unsteady hand? Yep! I’m just as pleased with happy tears as I am with whumpy tears, interestingly. Though the whimpering thing comes into play mostly when fear/pain is involved. I particularly like when it appears to be completely involuntary.
Extreme Agitation Again, this one applies more to men. Probably because I don’t see as much of it. But this seems to happen most when the whumpee’s friend/lover/family is in danger and they’re powerless to do anything about it. That “No! No, no take me! Oh god, please! Please!!” kind of moment where they’re fighting as hard as they can but getting nowhere. When there is nothing left to do but to beg or scream.
Blade Wounds But not life-threatening ones. I want the pain to be there, and the worry and the blood. Throw in an infection, stitches, sure. But I don’t want to worry about them dying. Exception when magical healing is an option. Then go ahead and impale them :)
Bladepoint Honestly, give me someone with a blade at their throat/chest and you will be my best friend. Well, I have a thing for an exposed neck in general, but add a blade and there’s a party to be had. Don’t care if it’s a tiny razor blade or a gosh darn spear. All good.
Fear Just good old fear. Even if there is no physical whump happening at the moment, I do enjoy seeing a character just showing a realistic level of fear. Backing away, looking for exits, grabbing something for either defense or comfort, I just like well acted and well written fear.

Prompt 15: Back-Alley Medicine
Its always been easy to get hold of -ehem - frowned upon - substance in skating. Hell, the Federation will even give it to you, wrapped in pretty food parcels, if they think you need it. Even if they don't. Yuri, and Victor, have learned to avoid food that isn't given to them by Lilia and Yakov - directly. Even the painkillers could be laced; they trade between themselves, but never, never with anyone else. Victor is in his final year (29 and still skating, it feels insane) and Yuri is seventeen; struggling with muscle pains, his body still growing in ways he hates. Victor counts out Yuri's pills, and they've an agreement; he can only have as much as he's given, no more, no less, because he knows that Victor won't short change him if he needs them, but he won't put him at risk, either.
Yuri counts out Victor's, and Victor knows that Yuri will cause all holy hell if Victor even tried to get them from anywhere else. Some nights, though, when Yuri is at Victor's and everything hurts for both of them, the only cure is each other's company, and a good (or terrible) tv show. Sometimes that's the only back-alley medicine they need.

Whump Challenge: Day 1
1. Favorite whump trope(s)?
Let me see... The list is kinda long.
Amnesia. Not the whole “egads! I forgot my identity! WHO AM I?” thing, though.
Bondage. Bound, restrained to the point all he can do is squirm? I LIKE THAT. Specially if he’s hurt while bound. Even nicer stuff.
Bone injuries. Broken bones, dislocated joints, anything that hurts a lot and limits motion.
Breathing whump. Heavy breathing. Breathing issues. Like when the unfortunate character wants to just take a deep breath but the air just feels so thin, or when the air feels so thick and heavy that he can’t even fill half his chest. When it hurts to breathe, because he’s gotten most of his ribs broken in a fight and one of the villains bound his chest with elastic bandages before tying him to a chair. And then, that face of absolute relief when he gets help afterwards, and he can breathe without anything catching on his throat or when it plain doesn’t hurt.
Collapsing. Poor whumpee exhausted, secretly injured, sick, what have you, stumbles and falls face-first. Collapsing into someone’s arms, being held so they don’t kiss the floor. Nice.
Concussions and the whole package that comes with them.
Covered in blood/bruises. Self-explanatory.
Delirium. Whumpee gets sick, starts rambling about things that don’t make any sense.
Fainting. No matter what the cause. It’s good stuff all the same.
Fever. Specially high fevers. Nice.
Hospital scenes. Accurate, please, and thank you.
Insomnia. Leading to a tired and scared whumpee who needs to fall asleep and rest, but he’s too afraid to do it because they can’t help but think of the awful things that happened, or they’re afraid of their nightmares.
Manhandling. NICE.
Near-death, and dealing with the aftermath of almost having died.
Needle phobia. Ah, I have a sweet spot for the tough guy who can take everything - but faints at the sight of a needle or passes out while drawing blood. Pain. There’s just something beautiful about a fictional character hurt to the point all that exists is their pain. (Also tastes great warm and with butter.) Protective friends. As in, the moment the lost is found (with a horrible injury, or covered in blood, and visibly limping and shaken by what happen), their friend just pulls them into a hug, wraps a coat or blanket on their shoulders, and makes it very clear that no matter who was it who hurt you, I’ll hurt them ten times worse, and no one will ever lay fingers on you again. All the while trying to be sweet enough to comfort the poor whumpee because they’re just shaking and would probably start crying if they only had the energy for it.
Resurrection sickness, that is, dealing with the physical (and maybe spiritual?) aftermath of actually having died and being brought back. If dying hurts, being brought back probably hurts a lot as well...
Seizures.
And I’m probably forgetting something, but eh, that’s a long enough list for today.

Whump Challenge
Ok, better late than never, I'm here for day 2 if the whump challenge
2. Least favorite whump trope(s)?
It's not exactly a trope, but I really can't handle heavy gore. Like body horror, mutilation, and stuff. I've read some, but it rubs me the wrong way, so I tend to avoid it. I'm fine with blood and injuries, just nothing too terrible or descriptive

Whump Challenge Day 1
Favorite tropes! Oh boy... I have... a lot! But right off the top of my head without thinking too much because it’s almost bed time and my thinking-enabling-medications are no longer very active...
I’ll go with the first few I can think of, but just for the record, there is very little that squicks me out. But since that’s another question for another day, I’ll leave that there.
1. I don’t know what to call it exactly, but I’ll describe it: whumpee is afraid of another character that they don’t have any actual current reason to fear (but of course, Whumpee doesn’t know that, they just have their previous experiences to go by). For example, a maid whumpee being afraid of a nobleman even though the nobleman has done nothing to indicate they are dangerous, it’s just the force of previous Very Bad Experiences. Doubly delicious if the second character becomes the Caretaker.
2. Stuttering, especially if it’s out of fear and the Whumpee doesn’t usually stutter.
3. Willingly submitting to punishment even though Whumpee is terrified, they try to put on a brave face but it’s obvious how afraid they are. They don’t want to submit but their body moves without their meaning to or, equally as good, they have every intention of submitting but they have to struggle and force themselves to obey.
4. Vivisection/medical torture For Science on immortal or self-healing whumpees (or in settings that have Magical or SciFi Handwavey Healy Powers)
5. CONDITIONING
6. Whumpers that are sneaky/subtle in their conditioning of Whumpee (e.g. gaslighting, backhanded compliments, reasonable sounding victim blaming, setting themselves up to be the only source of comfort by isolating and controlling whumpee)
...
okay I’m gonna call it here. Otherwise I’ll be writing a novel
