Shakespeare - The Uncrowned King of English Literature
Tumblr media
Shakespeare - the uncrowned king of English literature Who has not heard of William Shakespeare? He was an English poet, dramatist, and actor, and considered by many to be the uncrowned king of English literature. Nothing is known for certain about Shakespeare's early years. There are stories that he joined a theatrical company, or that he worked as a schoolteacher. Whatever the case, Shakespeare had become known as a dramatist and an actor in London by 1592. Some of his early works include 'Titus Andronicus', and 'The Two Gentleman of Verona'. Shakespeare published his first work in 1593, which was the narrative poem, Venus and Adonis. Later, he earned great praise for his sonnets. A sonnet is a type of poem that has three four-line sections with a pair of lines at the end, all following a special rhyming scheme. He worked with a group as a dramatist, an actor, and a part-owner for many years. In 1599, the company built the Globe, a theatre near London. Shakespeare wrote some of his greatest tragic and comic works around this time. He created Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth, as well as Twelfth Night, and Measure for Measure here. Popularity of Shakespeare Shakespeare's works were so popular that even Queen Elizabeth I of England had them performed for her. Despite having been written hundreds of years ago, Shakespeare's work remains popular because of his engaging characters, interesting plots, and artful dialogues. Read the full article

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” - Williams Shakespeare Shakespeare has been an inspiration for this young adult fantasy fiction, HOMELAND, by the style, voice, and flow of his tale. Studying the teacher, I hope that the struggles and achievements my characters make throughout this tale can be your own as well. I’ve always been apprehensive about sharing them to the world, but like all my close friends, I want them to pursue their dreams and goals in life and to be all that they can be, and same goes for my characters in HOMELAND. They wish to see the world and touch the hearts of many with their tales of battle, struggle of feuds, tangles of romance, and the overshadowing secret holding everything together. I hope their story can be as tantalizing as it was for me! 。 。 。 。 #HOMELAND #youngadultfiction #fiction #fantasy #shakespeare #shakespearequotes #shakespeareplays #theatricalplays #literature #stories #story #storyteller #goals #dream #lifedream #lifeambitions #furry #furries #battles #wars #feuds #romance #drama #characterdevelopment #characterdesign #characterillustration #illustrations #bookillustration #books #novels (at Town of Gorham) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu3wdRaAg1G/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wsbd3ezpv3i

15 May 1833, death of British Shakespearean actor Edmund Kean, celebrated for his range of Shakespearean tragic emotion in his performances of Richard III, Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth and King Lear. Kean was the first to restore the tragic ending to Shakespeare's King Lear, which had been replaced on stage since 1681. This mastery of tragic emotion, was influenced in part by his own personal life, which included addiction and divorce. On this day he was performing alongside his son Charles Kean, who was also a successful actor, in Othello. In scene 3 of act iii , after speaking the word "Villain, be sure”, he suddenly began to cry, and in a faltering voice, declared "O God, I am dying. Speak to them, Charles". Collapsing in his son’s arms. His last words were reported to have been "dying is easy; comedy is hard." 16th April 1825, death of Swiss painter and writer Henry Fuseli, best known for his gothic painting ‘the Nightmare’. Raised in Zurich, Fuseli was the childhood friend of Johann Kaspar Lavater , moving permanently to Britain in 1779, Fuseli began to write essays and reviews, alongside Thomas Paine, William Godwin, Joseph Priestley , Erasmus Darwin, and Mary Wollstonecraft , for the Analytical Review, published by Joseph Johnson. Through this circle he also came to know William Blake, who was deeply influenced by his painting style. In 1799, Fuseli was appointed Professor of Painting at the Royal Academy, his pupils included John Constable, Benjamin Haydon, and William Etty. 16th April 1828, death in Bordeaux, France of Spanish romantic painter and printmaker, Francisco Jose de Goya. The most important Spanish artist and artistic chronicler of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1793 Goya, after suffering from an undiagnosed illness, went deaf, which marked a darker and pessimistic transformation in his work. One theory is that this illness, and the subsequent mental and physical breakdown was caused by lead poisoning from the lead white paint he used extensively in his works; grinding the paint himself in his studio. Goya’s gothic and morbid outlook was also further intensified during the Napoleonic Wars after the French army invaded Spain in 1808, leading to the Peninsular War of 1808–1814. In 1888, Goya was exhumed for burial in France, and upon opening his tomb it was discovered that his skull was missing. 17th April 1699, birth of Scottish poet Robert Blair, best known for his 1743 poem ‘The Grave’. Which led to the pre-romantic poetry of the ‘graveyard school’, (continued in the comments). #henryfuseli #thenightmare #regencygothic #18thcentury #19thcentury #williamblake #fuseli #goya #gothicpoetry #graveyardpoetry #napoleonicwars #nightthoughts #gothichorror #18thcenturyhistory #19thcenturyhistory #williamshakespeare #gothicpoetry #gothicpoet #thomaschatterton #shakespeareplays #vortigern #forgery #gothichistory #gothicfiction #gothicillustration #darkhistory #victoriangothicstyle #gothictales #darkromanticism #victoriangothicstyle https://www.instagram.com/p/CNvOKLcH0Vu/?igshid=1vwm1p9eyog5u

H A M L E T #bffmakeupcontest I have been blessed (or cursed) with a friend-- you know I'm talking about you, @its_the_kohm--that is obsessed with #Hamlet; what kind of friend would I be if I didn't help encourage that obsession some more? So if you aren't a Hamlet expert, the first scene begins at night as represented. T the full moon. The location is Denmark, hence the snow; and the red and gold is to represent royalty (but there's a gold crown if you didn't get the hint already). The whole play revolves around Hamlet's desire to kill his Uncle (and stepfather) Claudius, and in the process his love, Ophelia, commits suicide by drowning herself as an unforeseen consequence. So the sword cutting through the letter C is to represent Hamlet's main goal and the lily pads represent Ophelia's death by drowning.
