Cops and Youtubers

Non-Shadoworld cop AU The NYPD has an image problem. At best, civilians are disillusioned with the police, at worst, they are uncooperative or hostile. To counteract this, an idea is proposed. A Youtube channel. "A day in the life" style, episodic documentary. The division under Captain Luke Garroway has been elected to test it out. And since Luke's daughter is a youtuber herself, he manages to get her to be the assigned "host". She comes with her own camera man (Simon). Alec, Jace and Izzy all work for the precinct. Alec and Jace are detectives under Captain Garroway, Izzy is the station's head pathologist. While his siblings are rather taken with the idea (and the two youtubers who now regularly follow them around), Alec is not amused ™️ He doesn't like Clary, or Simon, or the whole youtube deal and being on camera. That is, until Clary invites one of her youtuber friends who is insanely popular on YT, to do a collab with the format in order to boost views. His name is Magnus Bane. And suddenly Alec doesn't hate the whole thing quite so much anymore.

Today I come to you with: A lot of questions (you probably won't answer but still need to put them out there). Without further ado:

Can I just say that I called it? It's so much different when we finally get to see the way people in the Other Timeline lived. So much pain, and the death of one person can prevent that from happening, and David Max Rafael Alec and Magnus haven't seen it, so they don't know. David probably wouldn't care(or would he hesitate a little? I'm not sure). But a trip to the future would be enough for the others to change their tune I think. Or maybe not?

I have a feeling Magnus/Other Magnus trying to choke each other is a misunderstanding. Like Magnus tries to reach out but because it's from a different time line Magnus feels like getting chocked so he fight back and Other Magnus is surprised that he would get attacked because he doesn't know he's initiating it. I have a feeling if Magnus stops fighting that they'll be able to communicate?

I also have a feeling that Magnus seeing Older Max helps him connect some dots that somehow make it that he is the one who changed the timeline

Will Older Max try to figure out who changed the canon event and will the person responsible try to hide it or come out with it to Older Max?

So Arthur doesn't have to die in every world or does he die at a different age?

Lance was supposed to die after Arthur but Arthur saw him in France so he could see the future where they changed a canon event like Lucifer. So if Arthur saw it Lucifer does too which means he knew they would end up changing a canon event- it wasn't news to him and there wasn't a way to stop it right? From the moment Older Max starred visiting, things would go that way?

In the Other Timeline Blackbane didn't meet, so they're not a canon event?

Older Max (because now that I saw how hurt he was by being called Other Max I don't like using it) changed a lot of things in the other timeline. Did anyone in the Academy run the possibility of Lance not fullfiling the prophecy after having made connections in Idris? (Closer to Rafe and Cami, in love with Theia, knowing Arthur loved Kincaid etc?). Like Lance didn't get to destroy Idris in the current timeline, are they sure that he would've?

If they knew that Lucifer was the one that killed Arthur in the Other Timeline, it's impossible for Lucifer to manipulate Lance into doing his bidding/blaming Idris. But I always felt like it would be incredibly difficult for Lucifer to manipulate Lance in any scenario- that boy is very shrewd and would've seen right through it. So how did he end up doing what Lucifer wanted? What exactly went down? Nobody knows what went down in the pandenium or Idris right? Will we find out or is it unimportant?

I love Max more than anything, that boy gets tortured everywhere and he doesn't deserve it. And what's worse people don't recognize it as much as they should or as much as they do David's trauma because he hides it better? Someone give that boy a hug and a break in all the universes and timelines, he deserves it!🥺 (They all deserve that, I want to make that clear, but I think this is Max's week with everything we've read, so let's focus on him right now)

Dots are starting to connect finally and I'm so excited to see how things will go down! But I feel like Older Max keeping Mavid in New York and not severing themselves from the shadoworld is super important, because it didn't allow the family to be so separated so now they have the chance to fight united, whereas in the First Timeline, Mavid was so secluded it would've been super hard for all of them to stand together. Of all the changes, that seems the most beneficial. And Kincaid of course.

PS: When I tell you I'm ready to go full Sherlock Holmes and explore the David/ Madeleine dymamic, the way they both acted after the deaths of their loved ones, from our reactions as readers to why I believe they have different triggers and it may have been different if the same things had happened in another world, I'm being deadly serious. It will be an essay so be prepared.

Thank you for an amazing chapter that blew our minds. Allergies suck and not being able to use your body as you want is very annoying. But you still gave us a huge chapter to obsess over and you deserve a huge round of applause. Again, thank you 🌼💛

I was wondering why you kept saying Older Max and then I read your reasoning and NOW I AM EMO.

It's always easy to judge someone when we don't know their story. So, of course. But it's hard to judge who will sympathize with him EVEN if they see the Other World. Magnus probably? Alec for sure. David is extremely unlikely, I think. That bitch will watch the world burn.

We gotta wait and see on this one. It's messy.

If your death is a canon event, you die at the same age. So, ONLY because his death/canon event was changed did he actually live past 15 in IALS. So, no, he won't die (prematurely) in any universe.

Lucifer def knew these hoes were going to a change a canon event.

That's not how it works. Lance and Theia are a canon event - which means they will end up with each other and not someone else. But it doesn't mean they will end up together against ALL odds. Like, if Lance died prematurely, it won't happen. But if he had lived, he would have eventually ended up with her (Even if he was removed from the shadow world in that timeline)

No. Their math (lol) told them two things: one, arthur is DEF gonna die. and two, when he does, Lance will be triggered. Nothing and no one else has anything to do with it. The issue here was that arthur's death was a canon event and it couldn't be changed in any way (OR SO WE THOUGHT?)

Several things here. We'll never know what went down in the pandemonium in the other timeline. We knows bits and pieces of what happened in Idris (Lance didn't kill anyone - he basically died/burst kind of - and the "door" between the demon world and human world was destroyed so it both converged - killing people). As for Lucifer, I wouldn't underestimate him. With him, it doesn't matter smart you are or brave you are. He knows how to get to you. And he doesn't fuck around with his methods. Very straightforward guy hehe.

I meant Lucie and Cecily common traits you mentioned, which are they? Lucie grew up with a loving family, and Cecily by one marked by grief, and one was in the shadoworld from the start and the other wasn't, I want to find the similar take you have because I never considered them to share anything other than Will as a family member

I realized last night that they have basically nothing in common, and that was the oddity of my revelation because my mind subconsciously lumped them together. While I don't hate them, they share the same predominant two traits in my mind: annoyingly immature and half of a ship I don't care for.

I think the immaturity is much starker because the other TID and TLH characters feel like they're in their 20s. Lucie and Cecily probably wouldn't annoy me in another YA series where all the characters acted their age, but my reaction to both of them is the same irritated eye-roll.

this is a good point!!! i used to make a similar theory with lucifer using alec as his mortal vessel/spy in the clave to does some master plan that will destroy the whole shadoworld. going back to the bible, the whole reason lucifer rebels against god and the big fights with the arch angels is because he didn't understand why god had to pay that much attention and power to helping humans. and shadowhunter is essentially the reminder that angels tamper their angelic blood whatsoever with blood of "inferior" humans in lucifer mind, so maybe his goal was to wipe out all of them, and it is kinda logical he would use the highest being in shadowhunter society (the consul) to push for that plan

only qualm im having about this theory is that alec would be the center and normally he is not in the context of the plotline to princes of hell - assisting clary, jace, magnus, and others to fight them, sure, but they're not his direct antagonists. and the "possessing by higher demons" plotline seems to be something cassie would give her "cooler" male herondale protagonists (viable options for twp is kit, jace again or janus) also the eldest curses so far have been centering how magnus rs or his heritage affect the overall plot point, so I'm still trying to connect alec-lucifer theory into how they gonna affect the last book for magnus side

The Alec and Lucifer Theory

Alright, this has been on my mind since TLBotW (further referred to as 'White' because I am lazy), but I think Cassie's recent event convinced me. Especially after she said the thing about going back to TMI themes (more on that in the end)

So let's talk about The Svefnthorn and Alec.

In White, he stabs himself with The Svefnthron and LIVES. Which should not be possible considering the Wiki says it contains a lot of demonic power and only a warlock could survive being stabbed with it. (Link leads to the wiki page as reference) We are never actually given an explanation to how/why he manages to survive this stabbing, it is implied it has something to do with the allience rune, but we are never given the impression thay the allience rune could act in any way that would save Alec's life in this situation. If the allience rune is what saved him, we don't know how/why, and if that were the case, how come Alec was so shocked that he surprised? I don't know, the allience rune explanation doesn't sit right with me. Alec himself mentions he doesn't understand how it worked.

And then we need to talk about Sammael's reaction, he is described as confused and then he just... fucks off. Sure, it might just be a natural reaction of someone who just basically got defeated, but we'll talk about what I think it might mean SOON.

Essentially, Sammael after the thorn fails to kill Alec just leaves, no smart comebacks, no significant reaction, he just poofs. And realistically, he could have killed them all out of spite, I mean he was mad about Lilith, that was at least half the point of his story in White.

The next time we see Sammael is during the White epilogue when he calls a meeting of the Princes of Hell! All of them except Lucifer. And we're basically told this meeting is being held without Lucifer on purpose, especially after this exchange.

“Too long have we gone it alone. If we are ever to truly achieve our larger goals, we must recognize that we are more alike than we are different. We must put aside our old grievances, forget them, and work together.”

Asmodeus looked astonished. “You mean—”

“Yes,” said Sammael. “I want to talk about Lucifer.”

So we have a mention of putting aside old grievances and then a mention of banding together and having to talk about Lucifer, this happens right after Alec mysteriously survives the stabbing with the thorn.

Now, we know the thorn was tied to Sammael, and we don't know much about Lucifer, but we know he is more powerful than all the Princes. So I will ask, what if Lucifer is the reason TMI crew (especially Alec) survived White?

Think about it, it would explain why Sammael reacted the way he did to Alec's survival, why he chose now is the time to band the Princes together, presumably, against Lucifer.

And then another thing happened- well, actually, 3 things happened. For 1, Cassie said that Lucifer might surprise us. (Kill me I cannot actually find a source for this, if anyone knows where/when this was said let me know, I'll add it to the post) 2nd thing was, Cassie's tumblr post about going back to TMI motifs, (we'll get back to this, I'll share the ss of the post lower in the post. 3rd thing being the recent claim that TEC3 aka The Black Volume can't come out yet because it spoils TWP.

On a slight tangent, I don't actually know where the idea that TEC3 won't come out until TWP is over, Cassie has previously said TEC3 would come out between books 2 and 3 of TWP.

ANYWAY, back to this Lucifer thing. Cassie recently said we'll go back to TMI themes.

And I think she mentioned Paradise Lost for a very specific reason.

I recently read Paradise Lost, and there's an interesting discussion and interpretation surrounding that book. The way Satan (or Lucifer) is written in Paradise Lost makes him a protagonist, but for many he is also an anti-hero written in a sympathetic way, if not a straight up hero. While his goal is ultimately evil, he isn't written as pure evil as Lucifer often is. He also is a liberator in Milton's poem, he believes that what he is doing is ultimately good for humanity. (I am not gonna waste your time referencing academic sources and interpretation, but I do think you should look it up if any of this sounds interesting)

I think Lucifer will not be the villain we believe he is. He may be a villain, but with different plans and motivations than the rest of the Princes. I wonder if Alec will be part of that plan and if Lucifer needs some of our Shadowhunters alive, and if he might be the reason Alec survived the stabbing.

TEC was always focused on the Princes of Hell plot while TWP is actively looking like it will be dealing with the Cohort, Clave in Exile and the plots set up in TDA. It makes sense to me that the Lucifer plot would play out in TEC.

This is what I have so far. I am open to people adding stuff, I doubt I'm the first to have this idea.

i've been moaning and manifesting magnus unhinged moment but i know it hardly gonna happen a lot cuz magnus literally choose to turn into a demon (which he already stated he would rather be killed than let happens) to spare alec life. be honest how many chance the shadoworld gonna survive if magnus truly goes unhinged cause sth happen to alec
