Calling all Shadowhunters creators--it's time to dust off your notebooks, sketchbooks, laptops, drawing tablets, and other creative instruments.

Welcome to By the Angel Bingo!

What is By the Angel Bingo? By the Angel Bingo is a Shadowhunters-themed event where you request a grid of prompts in the layout of a bingo board. The goal is to fill the prompts until you get a traditional bingo (filling 3 or 5 in a row, column, or diagonally) or until you blackout your entire board! 

Do I have to be a part of the Malec Discord Server to sign up? No, being a part of the Malec Discord Server Community is not required to be a part of this event, but it is highly encouraged if you’re looking for friends to bounce ideas off of, if you need help finding a beta reader, or if you’re just looking for Shadow Fam to hang out with. 

What is the schedule?

Sign-ups open: February 1st

Sign-ups close: February 29th

Last day to request prompt changes: March 31st

Masterpost due by: September 30th

How will it work? On Thursday, February 1st, sign-ups will open for a bingo card. In your sign-up, you will be asked a few questions including what size bingo card you’d like (3x3 or 5x5). You will then receive a bingo card from one of the Mods to your preferred method of contact within 3-5 days. Sign-ups will remain open until Thursday, February 29th. From there, you’ll have until Monday, September 30, to complete what you can on your bingo card! 

What if I don’t like my prompts? You may request 3 (for 3x3 cards) or 5 (for 5x5 cards) replacement prompts at one time. If you need more than 3-5 prompts replaced, you will be sent an entirely new card. This can only happen once. If you receive a new card, you can request 3-5 replacement prompts again for the last time. You can request changes to your board until March 31st, a month after sign-ups close. 

Can I sign up if I’m under 18? Yes! Anyone is able to receive a bingo card, but you must be over the age of 18 to request NSFW prompts or submit NSFW fills. You also must be over the age of 16 to join the Malec Server. 

Are there any content restrictions? This bingo is open to all creations; fic, art, gifs, videos, moodboards, playlists, cosplay, physical art, etc. All bingo fills must be Shadowhunters-related. Any ships/characters/ratings are permitted as long as they are properly tagged. RPF is not allowed for this event. 

Am I required to get a bingo or blackout my card? Not at all! You can fill as little or as many prompts as you have the time/energy to complete. This is low to no stress. Low risk, high reward. HAVE FUN. 

Can I combine prompts? Each prompt needs to be its own fill, but you can post a multi-chapter fic or art series with one prompt per chapter/piece. 

What if I black out my entire card before the final posting date? Congrats! You did it! You can either be done OR ask for a second bingo card.

Fic: 500 words

Digital/physical art: 1 piece

Photomanipulation: 1 piece

Gifsets: 2 gifs

Moodboards: 4 images

Video: 30 seconds

Playlists: 10 songs 

Podfic: 500 words (with author’s permission)

Rules: 

You must be over 18 to request NSFW prompts and submit NSFW fills. You have to be over 16 to join the Malec Server. 

Any Shadowhunters-related ships/characters/ratings are permitted as long as they are tagged appropriately. 

You may create works based off of the show, books, or movies, but no RPF is allowed. 

You may request a 3x3 card (8 prompts) or a 5x5 card (24 prompts). 

You may request 3 (for 3x3) or 5 (for 5x5) replacement prompts at one time. 

If you need more than 3-5 prompts replaced, you will be sent an entirely new card.

This can only happen once. If you receive a new card, you can request 3-5 replacement prompts again for the last time. 

You can request changes to your board until March 31st, a month after sign-ups close. 

Each card has one “FREE SPACE” to be used as a wildcard where you can submit any creation that follows the rules of the event.

Each prompt needs to be its own completed fill, but you can post a multi-chapter fic or art series with one prompt per chapter/piece.

Each fill must be NEW during the bingo posting period. No past creations may be used as a fill.

Fills can be combined with other events (i.e. Femslash February, Any Fandom Bingo, Trope-specific bingos, etc.) only if the other event allows it and you meet the minimum requirements for both events.

Prompts can be interpreted as literally or figuratively as you like (I.e. A/B/O meaning a frat house, or falling to your knees in the sense of lust, despair, clumsiness, etc.) If you think it fits, it probably fits. 

All bingo fills must be added to the AO3 collection. If posted on Tumblr/Twitter, the Malec Discord Server must be tagged (@malecdiscordserver/@MalecServer).

If you are participating in this bingo, you are not allowed to shame any ships/kinks/characters/content of any kind created by other participants. Failure to follow this rule may lead to a lifetime ban of Malec Discord Server-run events. We’re in this for a good time, not a dramatic time.

hello, hello. Hope you're having a good Wednesday. Your last week sounded stressful, hopefully this week is a little more kind.

Ive always liked the idea of magnus changing his home's layout once he and Alex are committed by adding a waiting room/anteroom. That way it helps keep magnus' private life a little more separate from his duties as highwarlock. With this, alec doesn't have to worry about coming home/leaving their room and interrupting a sensitive meeting and downworlders don't have to worry about a shadowhunter just *being there* at a potentially vulnerable moment. So, if it interests you, I'd really like to see this explored, perhaps in a pre-canon relationship context? Maybe where jace/izzy/Clary show up for clary's memories and have to take a figurative number?

This is long and rambling but hopefully something in this prompt will help inspire something 💛💛💛

I love Magnus separating his area so this is right up my alley! This is in the Quarrel vs that needs a name (Alec finds a hellhound and he and Magnus share custody)

Magnus changed the layout of the loft the night he met Alexander and it was actually because of Quarrel.

And perhaps because of Alexander, a little.

The entire top of his lair is changed to accommodate for his new hellhound and the shared custody with Magnus’ shadowhunter.

Now, Magnus keeps the first three levels of the apartment complex as a greenhouse. The next level is where Magnus will his clients, with a waiting hall and a foyer.

It’s filled with the scent of potions and herbs and old books and Magnus layers it with wards and arrays of secrecy.

The proof of a hellhound loose in New York is all the evidence Magnus needs to set up protections.

So he creates a maze of wards that keep his clients from ever accessing anything but the level he allows them on and only when he allows it.

His own personal lair is kept tightly controlled and the war level wards are not only turned up to keep things out, but to keep things in.

Nephilim are now unable to track him and while Jocelyn may complain to Dorothea, Magnus only is willing to have contact with a single shadowhunter from now on.

Dorothea can find another warlock to take the child’s memories. Magnus has greater priorities than such a simple thing.

It’s months later; when they have gone from sharing custody of Quarrel to Quarrel and Magnus sharing custody of Alexander, that Magnus adds even more changes.

There is now a staircase that Alexander can use to access every level but the level for clients. It gives him and Quarrel access to the greenhouses and the roof and Magnus enjoys coming home to find the two wrestling in the moss of the gardens or the stone of the roof.

It hides Alexander’s angelic signature from other warlocks, his scent from werewolves, the call of his blood from vampires and the presence of his life from seelie.

Magnus wards Alexander with the same fervor he wards his oldest and most valuable magical texts. His shadowhunter comes in from the roof or the balcony, kisses Magnus with a dark joy and then waits until Magnus is done with his own work.

Alexander is harder to tame, more difficult to gentle than Quarrel. More skittish and far more tormented than a hellhound still growing and Magnus is thorough as he builds a sanctuary for both of his darlings.

This is to protect the world from them and then from the world after all.

Magnus pauses from where he’s petting Alexander’s hair. The Institute has been a mess of tensions and Alexander is a furious and soul-bruised mess. It means that Magnus himself is also furious, when angelic signatures not connected to his boy approach. They linger with a warlock and Magnus tsks as he realizes Dorothea is involved.

Magnus lets them wait for hours. Even when angry and frantic fire messages bounce off his wards, when Dorothea is convinced to try magic to signal him or when the shadowhunters try to use unlocking runes.

Magnus watches it all with his eyes closed, his mind focused on the images being relayed as Menace curls atop Alexander’s back and Quarrel in front of him. The hellhound leans back, so that Alexander’s arm dangles against her fur. Quarrel gives the floor a baleful look, as if she can feel the presence of unwelcome intruders.

“I’ll let you eat them if they wake him up.” Magnus promises her and he finally uses magic to gently move Alexander as Magnus gets out from under him. Magnus takes a moment to pet over his hair and press a kiss to his cheek and then he snaps his fingers.

His outfit changes as he is no longer simply Magnus Bane, he is the High Warlock of Brooklyn.

And he has clients to attend.

Uninvited ones at that.

I’ve become very fond of 🫡, but the one I use most often is probably 🥺 - it’s literally my face. I look at Ruth like that and say ‘I am the emoticon’ and then she has to be nice to me… 🥺

Would you rather have a library, greenhouse, or home theater in your house?

Library. For the aesthetic and the comfy comfy reading nooks! Also I would be able to have all my favourite fic bound and displayed in the library <3 <3 <3

What was your tumblr like when you first joined?

I had it for longer, but I first started really using it for Shadowhunters, and 90% of the fandom was here, before it largely moved to Twitter, and now has been struggling to move back, so has sort of become a bit homeless 🥺

What clothing style do you love but don't feel compelled to replicate yourself?

Anything neat and tailored. I think it looks fly AF, but I have neither the body type nor the patience for it.

If you were plopped into a fictional world, which one would you know the layout of the best?

Stars Hallow is really good shout I’ve seen other people use. Also any fictional TV show that basically takes place in a home, only. I’d be all over that! haha

What is your favorite piece of art? 

I’ve been obsessed with ‘Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening’ ever since I was about 10 years old.

Do you have a water bottle? what does it look like?

I recently broke my water bottle so I’ve got a temporary replacement one and I hate it. It’s boring and too big and not the right shape. Grr.

What fanfic trope is a quiet fave?

I’m pretty loud about all my fic feelings. Sometimes I unexpectedly enjoy a Mafia/Crime AU, though I would never go looking for it!

Do you carry a daily bag? what does it look like? what's the weirdest thing in it?

I’ve got three. A tote bag for when I bring lunch Tupperwares into work or otherwise have to transport big things. A large backpack for when I bring my laptop into work or travel. And a tiiiiiiiny backpack (smaller than A5) and the weirdest thing is how much stuff I manage to fit into it! First Aid Kit. Sewing Kit. Wallet. Phone. Portable Phone Charger. Sunglasses. Tissues. Cigarettes. House keys. Pill box. Misc. hair things for when other people need them.

Ariadne Blackthorn ✤ Thread Of Gold

Ariadne Blackthorn knew that her life wasn’t her own.  First as Elvina, Lady of the Seelie Court.  Then as Ariadne Blackthorn, Shadowhunter expected to devote her life to the Clave and the LA Institute.  And now, freshly 18, Ariadne’s life belongs to Magnus Bane.  A deal made in infancy, Nerissa pledging her child’s life to Magnus as payment for his work in saving the infant’s life.  One year, that was what Magnus had negotiated.  One year where Ariadne would live in New York, with the High Warlock of Brooklyn, instead of at her Institute.  One year, and then everything could go back to normal.  But a year has a way of changing everything, and a normal night at Pandemonium, a month into her year-long stay, would set off a chain of events determined to destroy any change Ariadne might have had of things ever being normal again.

Wednesday ask - I love your Claimed by Fire and I was wondering how the story would go if Magnus knew that Alec was his soulmate and had to get through the Clave to get to Alec. Just a thought! Magnus stares at the small, still flickering fire message. It’s a shriveled little thing, more char than words but he knows what it says.

It’s his name. 

His demonic name that no one should know but his father and there are words and what looks like blood and tear stains and something in Magnus breaks.

It should never have made it to him. 

Not if what he thinks it means is true. If Magnus’ soulmate is a nephilim, then their fire message should never have reached Magnus, not while he’s in the spiral labyrinth. 

Magnus wonders how many notes were sent. How much desperation his soulmate poured into his messages, for this one to reach him.

The end of the message read Lightwood, no first name, whatever was written the flames ate away. 

Magnus knows this isn’t one of Maryse or Robert’s traps, they wouldn’t ever insinuate or sully their children with even a hint that they were soulmates with a warlock.

Which means that Magnus’ soulmate is being raised by people who hate Magnus. Who hate what Magnus is, who hate his people and his magic and don’t even believe he has a soul.

It’s intolerable. 

Magnus has not waited eight hundred years for this gift to be denied it.

Magnus refuses to let the clave and shadowhunters take one more thing from him, because they will, if they find out, and they’ve already taken so much.

So Magnus plans and he researches and he threatens people and tortures others and he kills until he has a complete if sparse dossier.

A babe, Max, too young to send a message. The middle, Isabelle, who is still in training and Alexander, the oldest, the Lightwood heir.

Alexander is his, Magnus knows the moment he reads his full name and his magic surges with hunger.

Cat and Ragnor plan with him, carefully. Ragnor takes them deep into his memory, to show Magnus every secret he can without risking the oaths he once took to teach at Idris.

The clave doesn’t think warlocks can be trusted, so they don’t consider that warlocks trust each other, some of them at least.

But Ragnor loves Magnus more than he loves the sanctity of his own mind and he welcomes both Magnus and Cat in, so that all three can get as much information as possible. 

“You’ll have to be quick, once you're through the wards.” Cat reminds as they look over the layout and the weaknesses. 

“What will you use as a distraction once you’re in? It could take ages to find him.” Ragnor asks, reading glasses perched as his nose as he carefully draws an array.

“I’m going to open a rift to Edom.” Magnus says casually, like he hasn’t been refusing to do so since the start of the war.

“Magnus—” Cat trails off, biting her lip and then nodding solemnly. She understands that to him, the risk is worth it now in a way it wasn’t before.

“Your father is a bloody arsehole.” Ragnor mutters and scowls at the table when Magnus chuckles with relief at Ragnor’s predictable reaction. “At least you’ll get more of your power back, this will break what’s binding him to Edom, won’t it?”

“Yes,” Magnus admits easily. “Even the Council doesn’t know my heritage, only my abilities. If they knew what the risk was, they would never have asked me. However they have, that I chose to go through with it is their own fault.”

Which is true. Magnus has been at the forefront of this war, his magic and blood spilled more than any other as he fights for life and freedom and sometimes for revenge. Because Magnus is owed his pound of flesh and when he storms Edom for the soul born of his soul, he’s going to take it.

Magnus opens the rift slowly, carefully. Ragnor used the last of his priceless nephilim artifacts to create a spell that will let Magnus slip past the wards and go to the location Magnus knows from Ragnor’s mind. 

So it’s with shocking ease that he enters Alicante in the early glow of dawn. A pink and orange hue dapples over the sky as the sun peeks up over the great forest and mountains that protect Idris.

And Magnus opens the rift and the sky bleeds red and the air fills with screams. Magnus tucks himself away, up high and in the shadows so he can watch the nephilim run like ants, screaming and shrieking like so many downworlders do in their raids.

Some are killed instantly, unable to get their weapons in time and unprepared for violence in their perfect little city of rotten divinity. Magnus is getting bored, watching the demons trying to crash into the towers and the shadowhunters trying to drive them away. Some get ripped in half and others dropped into the rift for other demons to devour.

It’s gruesome and horrific and possibly the most gory massacre Magnus has ever had the pleasure of watching or instigating and he can’t even enjoy it properly.

He has something more important to concentrate on.

He doesn’t find him for ages. Not until several hours have stretched past, the demons still coming but slower than they once did. Idris may yet survive this, it seems Magnus’ father has finally awoken and is calling some of the more controllable ones to him, the ones who haven’t scented angelic blood and answered Magnus’ call.

It’s a culling the likes of the nephilim have never seen and yet Magnus forgets it all when he sees a demon fall from the sky, a red-fletched arrow through its eye.

Magnus is too slow to track the arrow and another demon crashes into the tower the archer is hiding in.

The tower goes down.

But the demon also falls, a small figure wrapped around its neck with something glinting in the air.

Magnus is in delighted awe.

His soulmate realized he was about to fall — Magnus would have caught him, will always catch him now he’s found him — and instead, jumped on the demon and is now hanging on via some kind of weapon in its body. The demon twists up and up, wings beating powerfully as it tries to dislodge it’s attacker and Magnus holds out his hand and says, “bring him to me.”

The demon comes, ignoring the hunter clinging to it, obeying the master who claimed it.

Magnus lets the demon get above him and then destroys it, his magic wrapping protectively around his soulmate and Magnus steps out, catching his soul in his arm.

“There you are.” Magnus says, his entire being filled with a sense of delighted awe.

His shadowhunter is shocked and bloodied, but he’s whole and he’s in Magnus arms. And then hazel eyes are lighting up with equal awe and weapons are being dropped as arms come up around Magnus neck.

And Magnus is being kissed with the desperate and innocent passion of someone who has been waiting to be found.

“Sayang, my Alexander.” Magnus murmurs, “you clever boy. Getting your messages to me, shall we go home now?” And then because he needs to hear it, he murmurs his own name and Alexander kisses him, more chaste now, shy rather than untold years of agony being soothed.

“Anywhere, as long as it’s with you, Magnus.” 

He’s told and Magnus summons his boy’s weapons and in the middle of carnage and devastation, he opens a portal and takes his soul home.
