I think the main reason I'm a bit let down about the well's monster reveal is that midnight wasn't so much a monster-of-the-week episode than it was a study on human behaviour, especially in high-stress environments.

the well had it's own story to tell. in fact, I really enjoyed it, especially how it incorporated a deaf character into the narrative and explored her isolation when people turned their back on her, disallowing her the ability to lip read or sign. the fact that the monster on her own back would sooner kill if she was to do the same thing speaks volumes, it was a really poignant message.

in fact, it was such a poignant message that I sort of fail to understand why we needed the story to have any connection to midnight at all. the monster worked in such a different way from midnight that it really wouldn't have been noticeable if they took out the parts that tied the episodes together.

midnight stood strong as a stand-alone, it didn't need any further examination or lore because it was never about the monster to begin with. adding any depth to that doesn't improve upon the story, it just waters it down.

in short, I really liked the themes of this episode, I just think it would have worked better with its own monster, instead of borrowing from one that needed no further development.

I enjoy Sonadilver in theory but I'm not a fan of the obvious Shadow bias between Sonic and Silver in some spaces. There's never enough of Sonic and Silver being each others' boyfriends as well as Shadow's 😔

miro still finishing with the highest average toi of the entire team somehow even though the entire dcore had to raise their mins to account for not having him -> pdb criticizing robo in a postgame saying he needs to earn that spot on the top line after placing him with players who do not support his game at all and he would never score with as a line -> the whole pdb on otter fiasco.... still didn't talk to him for at least 2 whole days after embarrassing him in front of everyone everywhere and publicly blaming the last two wcf losses entirely on otter

I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim

The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting

Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.

Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)

Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)

I'd say Book 3 to give us more options, but I really don't think they need to eat in that one.
