After a summer of scrutiny of the ethical practices of Supreme Court justices and their spouses, Ginni Thomas is once again proving the need for reform within the court.  Thomas — the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas — has lavished praise on a legal group opposing the Biden administration’s efforts to introduce a binding code of ethics to the Supreme Court.  ProPublica reported on Wednesday that Kelly Shackelford, president and CEO of First Liberty Institute, read an email from Thomas during a July 31 phone call with major donors to the conservative political group.  “YOU GUYS HAVE FILLED THE SAILS OF MANY JUDGES. CAN I JUST TELL YOU, THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH,” Thomas wrote in the email, in praise of First Liberty’s work opposing efforts to strengthen justices ethical obligations to the public.  Shackelford told donors that the email was an affirmation of the work they were doing on behalf of judges who “can’t go out into the political sphere and fight.”

“It’s neat that, you know, those of you on the call are a part of protecting the future of our court, and they really appreciate it,” he added. 

If Shackelford’s views weren’t explicit enough, he went on to attack Justice Elena Kagan as “treasonous” and “disloyal” for advocating for an external mechanism of enforcement of the Supreme Court’s ethics guidelines.  The battle over Supreme Court ethics reform intensified in May after Justice Samuel Alito refused to recuse himself from cases related to Jan. 6 despite reports that the justice had flown flags associated with the movement to overturn the 2020 election results outside of his residences.  Alito blamed his wife, Martha-Ann Alito, for flying one of the flag’s outside of the couple’s home.  Mrs. Alito is by no means the first Supreme Court spouse to invite controversy into the court. Ginni Thomas has plenty of her own links to the 2020 “Stop the Steal” movement, and has been a party in the scandal surrounding her husband’s relationship with influential conservative billionaires.

Space Precinct in HD! Now on Britbox and ITV X Premium

Gerry Anderson’s Space Precinct is available to stream in HD for the first time exclusively on BritBox, via ITVX Premium!

ITVX today confirmed that Space Precinct will stream for the first time in high definition on BritBox, available via ITVX Premium, from Thursday 13th April!

All 24 episodes of the remastered live action drama, which first aired in 1994, will arrive on the platforms just after Easter, as human officers join the 88th precinct of the planet Altor alongside alien officers.

Until now the series, produced by Gerry Anderson, has only ever been shown and released in standard definition. The series has now been AI-upscaled from the master digibetas by ITV Content Services, bringing all its glory to viewers in HD for the first time.

Space Precinct sees a veteran New York cop transfer to a new precinct – the Demeter City Police Department on the planet Altor – as he discovers that a life of crime is not a purely human pursuit.

Ted Shackelford stars as Lieutenant Patrick Brogan, alongside Rob Youngblood and Simone Bendix as fellow officers who try their best to maintain law and order amongst the melting pot of different alien races. This popular series featured many high-profile guest stars, including Frances Barber, Ray Winstone, Maryam D’Abo, Nickolas Grace and Steven Berkoff. Space Precinct is also thought to be Idris Elba’s first TV appearance.

At the time the series was the most expensive live action show made to date, with several episodes directed by James Bond director John Glen.

The Invisible Raptor--In this horror comedy, an invisible predatory dinosaur escapes from a laboratory manned by Sean Astin, makes its way to a dinosaur theme park and raises bloody mayhem in the neighborhood. A down-on-his-luck paleontologist (Mike Capes) reluctantly teams up with an imbecilic security guard (David Shackelford) to battle the creature; eventually the paleontologist's gorgeous ex (Caitlin McHugh) and a local chicken farmer (Sandy Martin) join the fight.

This very crass, deliberately lowbrow but occasionally funny film is not only gory but scatological; the raptor may be invisible, but its poop, once excreted, certainly isn't. It's a polished production, directed by Mike Hermosa from a script by Capes and Johnny Wickham. The special effects are good, and the object of its spoof/homage is unmistakable: Steven Spielberg. From the look and sound of the movie to the names of the characters, not just the obvious references to Jurassic Park but also to Jaws and E.T., it's a striking testament to the master's influence.

I wonder if anyone connected to this film is old enough to remember Sound of Horror (El Sonido de la Muerte)...

...a riotous Spanish shocker from 1966, also, believe it or not, about an invisible dinosaur who makes the truly awful, squalling sound of the title. It has several elements in common with The Invisible Raptor, but I think I prefer the earlier film, if only because the cast includes the glorious Ingrid Pitt.
