"Shut up, you stupid monkey!" Gojyo shouts.

"Hey, that was a big fight!"

"Now, now, the next town is about a drive's breakfast" Hakai chides.

"All right! Let's go!" Goku says as he jumps in the backseat.

You move carefully with them, to avoid the injury being seen. Sanzo takes a small glance back at your unusual slowness, but chalks it up as exhaustion.

With every passing moment, your condition worsens, the relentless march of time eroding the fragile facade of strength you've meticulously maintained. The blood-soaked fabric of your shirt clings to your skin like a macabre second skin, a grim reminder of the toll exacted by the fierce battle you've waged.

Hakkai's brow furrows in concern as he glances over his shoulder, his hands steady on the wheel as he maneuvers the vehicle through the dense forest. "What's wrong?" he asks, his voice a calm anchor amidst the rising tide of panic.

Gojyo's expression is grim as he gestures towards you, his movements urgent and decisive. "It's y/n. They're hurt bad," he says, his words clipped and to the point as he assesses the extent of your injuries.

Panic sets in among your comrades as they realize the severity of your condition, their frantic attempts to rouse you echoing in the recesses of your fading consciousness. Through the haze, you hear their voices, a jumble of worry and fear that cuts through the fog of pain enveloping your mind.

"Hey, come on! Wake up!" Goku pleads, his voice cracking with emotion as he searches desperately for any sign of consciousness.

Sanzo's jaw tightens with concern as he watches the scene unfold, his normally stoic facade betraying a hint of unease. "We need to get them help. Now," he declares, his tone holding no argument, directing Hakkai to pick up the pace.

"Hakai, hurry!" Goku shouts. "It looks really bad!"

"I'm trying, Goku. I can only go so fast!" Hakai replies, going as fast as he can, as he glances at you through the rearview mirror.

Gojyo remains silent, his hands putting pressure on your wounds. His expression laced with concern.

"This damn idiot" he curses. "When you wake up, I'll kill you."

Time loses all meaning as you drift in and out of consciousness, the world reduced to a series of fragmented impressions and fleeting moments of clarity.

As consciousness gradually returns, you find yourself enveloped in a cocoon of warmth and safety, the soft embrace of a bed cradling your weary body.

The gentle rustle of fabric and the faint scent of herbs mingle in the air, offering a soothing balm to your senses as you struggle to piece together the fragments of memory that cling to the recesses of your mind.

It's only when you finally awaken to the warmth of a bed and the gentle touch of bandages around your waist that you realize you've been saved from the brink of death.

Blinking away the remnants of sleep, you find yourself greeted by the familiar faces of your companions, their expressions a swirling mix of relief and concern.

As you shuffle yourself upright, the group quickly comes over.

Sanzo's gruff voice pierces through the haze, his words laced with a grudging sense of worry that he can't quite conceal.

"You're lucky you didn't bleed out before we found you," he mutters, his gaze flickering between irritation and genuine concern. "Next time, try not to be so reckless."

Hakkai's gentle touch brushes against your forehead, his hands deftly adjusting the bandages that encircle your waist. "You gave us quite a scare," he says softly.

Gojyo's worried expression speaks volumes, his usually jovial demeanor tempered by the gravity of the situation. "Damn it, don't you ever scare us like that again," he grumbles, his words tinged with a vulnerability rarely shown.

Goku's infectious grin is a welcome sight. "I knew you'd pull through!" he exclaims, his voice brimming with unbridled enthusiasm.

As the atmosphere lightens with shared relief, Goku's bright grin widens even further, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Hey, now that you're awake, can we eat?" he interjects, his stomach audibly growling in agreement.

A chorus of chuckles ripples through the room at Goku's typically straightforward request. Sanzo rolls his eyes in mock exasperation, but there's a hint of fondness in his gaze as he nods in agreement. "Fine, fine," he concedes, his gruff tone softening just a fraction. "But make it quick."

Hakkai smiles warmly, already rising to his feet to prepare a meal for the weary travelers. "Of course, Goku. I'll grab something simple yet satisfying," he assures, his soothing voice a calming presence amidst the lingering tension.

Gojyo's grin mirrors Goku's as he claps you on the shoulder, his touch gentle despite the underlying strength in his grip. "Sounds good to me. Can't have you starving after all that heroics," he quips, his tone light yet sincere.

As the aroma of food begins to fill the room, a sense of warmth and camaraderie settles over the Sanzo party like a comforting blanket. And as you gather around the makeshift table, sharing stories and laughter amidst mouthfuls of food, you're reminded once again of the unbreakable bond that binds you together, even in the face of life's greatest challenges.

corinthiel, that I put on par with corintheus as a level of absolute obsession even though they have completely different dynamics. 2. First ever ship: hummm I was "introduced" to the world of ships thanks to a manga called Gensōmaden Saiyūki, and at the time I was in love with Sha Gojyo x Cho Hakkai. Slam Dunk also had some pretty good ships! my favorite was Hanamichi x Rukawa (ah so many memories!)

3. Last song: according by youtube is Heart & Feather by Twin Tribes (a darkwave duo from Texas)

4. Last movie: (Io Capitano) Me Captain by Matteo Garrone, my favorite contemporary italian director. A cruel and poetic film like a fairy tale about two African boys who cross the desert and the sea to go to Europe.

It was something that Sanzo had gotten used to, the nightmares. The ones about the man raising him getting slaughtered. Thankfully they only happened when it rained but when it did that’s when they came.

Waking up, his breath in his throat. He’s often would find himself smoking watching the rain. But now, now that he had someone that cared for him he tried to hide the nightmares. Though of course you saw right through him, you saw through his act. You’d often cuddle close to him. Your hands on his cheeks, you would do anything to rid him of his nightmares.

Sanzo would often find himself in your arms, his head on your chest has he bled you close. He started to find that the rain didn’t bother him much, not when he had you.

Hakkai would never complain about his nightmares, why would he when he was the cause for them.He never told you about them either. He couldn’t burden you with that, not when you did so much to help the group.

Though you found out on your own when you caught the man you loved having a nightmare. It took a lot to coax him out of it. For him to do his best to explain,he never fully tell you of his nightmares the man grateful for you helping him. Their was a reason to why he loves you.

He enjoys resting his head on your chest, listing to your heartbeat.Your heartbeat always soothed him, eased his nerves. Hakkai found it much easier to fall asleep while listing to your heartbeat.

Gojyo never mentioned his nightmares, he never felt the need to bring them up. He likes to keep the past in the past. He hated to even think about them because thinking about them would often sour his mood. Not to mention that it wasn’t very hot waking up in a panic when you have a naked woman next to you.

Then you came along, he first thought it would be a fling, some pretty woman to share his bed with. But then he started to enjoy your company outside the bedroom. He enjoyed hearing your laugh, your smile, the little quips you made to Goku or how you’d often would tease Sanzo.

He enjoyed seeing how well you and Hakkai got along. He loved how you’d fall asleep on his shoulder when riding with Jeep, that you never questioned about the scars on his cheek. He loved how you would play with his hair. So when he finally figured out his feelings for you he finally told you about his past, his abuse.

Though he didn’t think that digging in his past would cause a nightmare. Jerking awake, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He felt your fingers ringing through his hair, he didn’t even register the fact that you were pulling his head to your chest. Squeezing his eyes shut he let his arms wrap around your waist hugging you as he nuzzled his face into your neck. No words were needed, Gojyo knew that he was loved just being in your arms, he knew that you would he the one to chase his nightmares away.

With you he wouldn’t be alone.

What connects these men who can’t turn back?    The Sanzo Ikkou swear at one another while brandishing a gun and rounding up youkai.  The stage suddenly turns from their story drawn in the early episodes to 500 years ago.    Sanzo and Goku, Gojyo and Hakkai are tightly bound by a chain that, while at first glance seems like nothing, is actually so strong no one else can get through.  The reason for that seems to lie in an incident that occurred in Heaven 500 years ago.  Precisely because the lives they risked for others were stolen from them, they are now determined to live their lives for themselves.  However, there is one more person they are connected to.  The War Prince, Prince Nataku.  How is he, vanished from Heaven, connected to the Sanzo Ikkou?

Goku and Sanzo

In the early stages of this work, Goku and Sanzo haven’t had many scenes together.  Maybe this paradoxically displays their connection...?  Because for Konzen, somehow bored to death with his peaceful days in Heaven, 500 years ago, his meeting with the “gold-eyed creature” Goku was the catalyst that upended his life.

Here’s a highlight! Comment by the producer It was decided that I’d be handling the latest “Saiyuki” work, which has long enjoyed popularity, and the pressure is immense (pained smile).  It has continued serialization for over 20 years, and I’ve been reading it since my school days too, after all.  That’s why I’ve dealt this project thinking about how the make the fans think that “Saiyuki” and the “Sanzo Ikkou” have returned.  In Saiyuki Reload Blast, the Sanzo Ikkou has travelled quite a ways from Chang’an, seen different cultures, and overcome various obstacles.  That’s why I wanted to show a slightly calmed-down Sanzo and Goku, Gojyo and Hakkai.

Nataku and Goku


Nataku has been used by his father’s ambition as the “War Prince”, valued only in battle.  For him, Goku is his one and only friend.  For Goku too, worried about his own existence, Nataku’s words are salvation, but the adults’ situation tears them apart.

Here’s a highlight! Comment by the producer As someone who’s worked on this, I have an emotional attachment to Konzen.  He was raised in a hot house environment, wanting for nothing, but then he meets Goku and begins to mature by living with him.  The scene where he thinks he won’t let anything happen to Goku, despite Konzen’s being a man with no power aside from his authority and position, hits me hard.  The Gaiden episodes were presented in the OVA series, but that anime focussed on how Konzen, Kenren, and Tenpou died, and on the events leading to Goku’s exile in the Lower World.  In this anime, the first half of “Saiyuki Gaiden” makes a point of showing how Goku met Konzen, Kenren, and Tenpou, and of course Nataku.  I can’t go into detail because it will spoil later developments, but I hope you’ll understand why we included the Gaiden episodes in this anime if you watch until the end!

Here’s a highlight! Comment by the producer Compared to before, the “Sanzo Ikkou” in this anime have changed yet remained the same.  What’s changed is their position of “We aren’t heroes of justice”.  This is something I’ve inherited from the previous person in charge, but apparently the original creator Minekura Kazuya Sensei said so during production of the anime’s first episode.  For example, even if they’re told unilaterally to help, I think they won’t.  But, like with Tamuro in episode 1, if they see intent and faith in the side to be helped, they’ll at least lend a hand.  I’m always keeping this in mind.

Gojyo and Hakkai

Gojyo lives according to his animal instincts and Hakkai wordlessly backs him up even while tossing him sharp comments.  In a sense, their perfectly synchronized relationship is reminiscent of the trusting relationship between Kenren and Tenpou, 500 years ago in Heaven.

Here’s a highlight! Comment by the producer This is a highlight that comes up after this, but new characters like the last Sanzo Priest appear.  She doesn’t feel much like a priest, just like Genjo Sanzo, but during scenes when the two of them talk they act just like “highest ranking monks”.  And, the Sanzo Ikkou’s rivals show up.  I hope you watch to the end.

Cornered the artist!  Special comment from the character designer Satou Youko

--- How did you feel when it was decided you’d be taking part in “Saiyuki”, which has received passionate fan support for 20 years?   I wondered if I was good enough (laughs).

--- What impression did you have of the original “Saiyuki” series when you read it?   I was very surprised by the drawings, which were more detailed and cleaner than I’d imagined.

--- “Saiyuki” has been adapted for anime many times before.  What parts did you focus on in designing the characters for this adaptation?   I was careful to create solid images even with thin lines, and keep them from becoming like today’s thin and bendy line drawings.

--- Were there points you paid attention to when translating the original manga characters into anime?   All the characters have distinctive details in their hair, so I took special care there.  I was especially careful with Sanzo’s sideburns, Goku’s expressions, Gojyo’s head volume, Hakkai’s eyes, and the like.

--- Konzen, Kenren, and Tenpou, who closely resemble Sanzo, Gojyo, and Hakkai, appear in this anime.  Were you conscious of how to draw their differences?   I designed the characters so you wouldn’t forget that they’re all different people; I thought about how their personalities lead to different expressions.

--- Similarly, for the young Goku from 500 years ago and the current Goku, were you thinking of how to show the difference in his expressions?   I concentrated on making Goku from 500 years ago have a cheerful, innocent child’s face.  Conversely, while the current Goku appears younger than the other three, he does bear several life experiences not shown in the manga.  That’s why I tried to give him an expression that was more than just a child’s, and couldn’t be called purely innocent.

--- What did you enjoy drawing, and what was difficult to draw?   I think those are both covered by the sheer amount of lines (laughs).

--- How did you feel when the main voice cast from the previous 20 years of “Saiyuki” was announced for this picture?   I was delighted.  It was like, “Aah, it’s become ‘Saiyuki’!”

--- Please give us a highlight from the “Saiyuki Reload Blast” to come.   We’ve made an effort to reproduce the original work as closely as possible.  After the 7th episode, familiar(?) and nostalgic characters will show up, so stay tuned!

I was tagged by @teacher-monica - thanks! I’m gonna go with manga/anime characters only like you, since I already did a more general list here.

I was trying to stick with 1 character per series, otherwise the majority would be from Bleach lol. Starting with the most loved ones, although it’s hard to give an exact order:

1. Armin Arlert  (Attack on Titan) gets the first place because he’s my latest husbando and that means he’s super special; I had only two anime husbands before him lol. What can I say, he’s the most relatable one in the show imo.

2. Light Yagami (Death Note) is on the 2nd place because he was my former husbando lmao. So it’s only fair. I loved his crazy ego and found him way more entertaining than L.

3. Alphonse Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist [2003]) AKA my first anime husband (yes, I know, I know, an armor). He’s just the cutest, purest person ever! I’m specifying the anime version because I still didn’t watch FMA Brotherhood yet.

4. Sakura Haruno (Naruto) - I gotta be honest, I didn’t like her before the iconic hair cutting scene, but man, did it change afterwards! She’s super relatable for me (save for the crush on a jerk) and a big inspiration. I chose a picture from the Kazekage Rescue arc bc this part had THE best Sakura.

5. Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) is my favorite shounen MC ever. He feels very human and his emotional issues always seemed genuine and important to me. I also adore how his only major goal was to keep everyone he loved safe; no “becoming the greatest X” trope going on. Also look at that smile! Aww.

6. Lina Inverse (Slayers) was my childhood heroine. I absolutely loved Slayers, it was my gateway to anime/manga and one of the reasons why was the kickass main character. I remember how little me wished I could be her friend. :’)

7. Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh Season 0) -  if you thought Seto was a crazy narcissist in the main YGO TV show, then you need to watch Season Zero and prepare to laugh at his every scene. The “cabbage” Kaiba is next level insane; he even gets a sinister shadow around his eyes to reflect it! What’s not to love?

8. Death the Kid (Soul Eater). I thought he was gonna be just another “cold tsundere rival” type of character, but he’s totally different - and so much more enjoyable. His obsession with symmetry is really funny and I love the relationships he has with his family & friends!

9. Sha Gojyo (Saiyuki) - Saiyuki was one of the first manga series I read and Gojyo was definitely my favorite guy. A pervert on the outside, an emotional guy on the inside. And don’t you dare talk trash about his first outfit, I love it lol.

10. Mitsune Konno AKA Kitsune (Love Hina). Again, Love Hina was one of the first series I read, and Kitsune was the funniest main girl imho. Her personality? Well, let’s just say she could pass for a Kyoraku Shunsui + Gin Ichimaru kid not only because of her looks lmao.

As they settled into their rooms for the night, you found yourself drawn to the subtle intricacies of their hands – hands that had wielded weapons, offered prayers, and reached out in moments of both solace and strife. 

The same pair of hands that saved you many times. The ones who, although bloodied and rugged, comfort in times of need.

Sanzo's hands, elegant and refined, bore the scars of a life steeped in battle. 

As he meticulously cleaned his gun, you couldn't help but notice the way his fingers moved with a precision honed by years of practice, each movement deliberate and calculated.

As you followed him to your bed, a sense of contentment settled over you like a comforting blanket. Hand in hand, his warmth settles in with yours as you both settle in for the night. As you doze off, you faintly register his fingers lightly tracing over your knuckles, holding you tightly.

Cho Hakkai

The soft glow of the lantern cast gentle shadows across the room as Hakkai sat at the small table, his hands deftly preparing dinner with practiced ease. 

The aroma of spices filled the air, mingling with the comforting scent of cooking rice.

You watched him work, mesmerized by the fluidity of his movements and the quiet confidence that seemed to radiate from him like a gentle aura.

Each chop of the knife, each stir of the pot, was performed with a precision that spoke volumes of his culinary expertise.

As he reached for a spice jar on the shelf, you couldn't help but notice the size of his hands – hands that had tended to wounds, prepared meals, and offered comfort in times of need. 

They were strong yet gentle, capable of both great strength and delicate precision, and you found yourself drawn to the contrast between their robustness and your own smaller hands.

As you sat there, lost in thought, the sound of Hakkai's approach eluded your senses until he was standing right beside you. His presence was a comforting one, radiating a sense of tranquility that filled the otherwise silent room.

Son Goku

The Sanzo party had set up camp for the night, the crackling fire casting flickering shadows across the clearing. 

As the group settled in for the evening, you found yourself sitting beside Goku, the comforting heat of the fire enveloping you both as you enjoyed a simple meal of meat buns.

The aroma of cooked dough and savory filling filled the air, mingling with the smoky scent of the campfire.

Goku seemed to sense your gaze and turned to look at you, his eyes bright with curiosity. "What's up?" he asked, a lopsided grin spreading across his face, "are you full?"

You hesitated for a moment, unsure if you should voice the observation or question his grab for food. 

But before you could respond, Goku reached out and gently took your hand in his own, his touch surprisingly gentle despite the strength you knew lay within his grasp.

As his fingers intertwined with yours, you couldn't help but marvel at the stark contrast in size between your hands. He engulfed yours, his thumb brushing against the back of your hand in a gesture that was both comforting and intimate.

"Goku, your hands..." you began, trailing off as you struggled to find the right words.

Goku glanced down at your hands, a look of realization dawning on his face as he took in the size difference. "Oh yeah, I guess my hands are kinda big, huh?" he chuckled sheepishly, his cheeks flushing slightly.

🚬: To many thoughts rushing through his mind, he can’t lose you, he can’t lose his child. Not when he has actually found some happiness.

🚬: Is a little thrown off to find one guy already dead as another gets tossed out the window. While it took some effort you managed to defeat the assholes that took you. { even though it was Gojyo that killed the last asshole. }

🚬: Rushes into where you were being held, immediately checks you over. Places his hand on your belly just wanting to feel a kick. His relived when he actually feels one.

🚬: Is very proud that you defended yourself but scolds you for doing something dangerous. He doesn’t want to lose you and his child.

🚬: You laugh it off then kiss his check, you’ve been traveling with him and the gang for a long time. You can handle some thugs, being pregnant isn’t about to stop you from taking matters into your own hands when some jackass wants to hurt your unborn child.

📿: Has to hold back a snicker when you shove one of the monks stating you’ve two fucked plenty.

📿: Sanzo will then give a very blunt threat to the monks once you tore yourself out that if they can not accept you or his unborn son then his will not return.

📿: They promise they won’t but once his son is born he doesn’t return.

Cho Hakkai:

🍃: You two are out eating when it happens, he slipped away to take care of something only for a man to come to the table to bother you.

🍃: He tries to pull you away from the table know matter how much you struggled. The only thing you knew was that you had to protect yours and Hakkai’s child.

🍃: Remembering what he taught you, you easily slipped out of his grasp breaking his hand in the process.

🍃: Hakkai arrived just arrived to see you holding the man’s arm behind his back, the guy on his knees.

🍃: Chuckles at the soft, it’s quite cute seeing you being able to pin a full grown man on his knees with such a cute smile on your face.

🍃: Knees down in front of the man, he might have a smile on his face but he is not happy that some low life dared to touch his pregnant wife. Has a dangerous glint in his eyes.

🍃: Warns the man not to come back, tells him if he does he will kill him.

👑: Though when he finally reaches where you are held he’s a bit baffled seeing all the corpse’s outside the hut. Dokugakuji tries to hold him back but the man is running on pure adrenaline.

👑: Though he’s a bit baffled to see you completely unharmed with a large smile on your face. Your arms wrapping around his waist. He of course kisses you back but damn is he confused.

👑: Did his princess, did you do all of this but yourself?

👑: You laugh it off telling him it wasn’t so hard.

‘You’re the one that trained me, remember.’ You teased.

👑: Scolds you at first though it’s more of him worrying about you and his child.

Gojyo never really liked the snow, it was wet, cold and made missions worse when having to fight in the stuff. Not to mention Goku’s constant whining, Sanzo with his finger on the trigger constantly as Hakkai tried to call the group down. It seemed that the whole group was miserable.

Though it seemed that Gojyo’s mood quickly changed when he found out that he and the others world be guarding a Princess. And once the red head managed to get a good look at you he could have sworn it was love at first sight...if he believed in the crap.

With the sheltered life you had, your parents often kept you locked in the home. Parent of you couldn’t blame them. You were a Princess after all , not to mention their only daughter so that meant you had a set of rules you had to follow. It also meant that your really had a chance to step outside.

That was until you met the Sanzo Party, they were tasked with protecting you, to act as escorts until you reached your destination and while you were happy to get out of those walls you never thought you’d see so many amazing things.

Your eyes went wide as you stepped out side of the inn you and the others were in you couldn’t help but look up in the side in amazement.

Smiling your nose twitched as a snowflake landed on your skin. You didn’t mind the cold air, it felt nice.

You only jumped when you heard a fimiliar voice call out.

“Stay warm ya.”

Blushing you tugged the material close inhaling his scent, it always seemed to calm you.

“What are you looking at anyway?”

Shrugging your shoulders your then looked up at the sky.

“I've never seen snow in person before, until now. What's this white stuff falling from the sky why are you laughing at me.”

Wrinkling your nose you turned back to face the man, he was snickering before but now he let out a short laugh.

“You haven’t? They’re snow flakes...Man that’s adorable.”

Grinning he ruffled your hair, that was too cute.Puffing out your cheeks your cheeks you let out a huff but biting your lip you then inches closer to Gojyo.

“They are really beautiful...I thank you...you and..I...” Struggling with the words you shifted your body in the snow.

“Hehe what’s wrong Princess?! Cat got your tong-.”

Though your quickly cut the man off as you pressed your lips against his. It was a brief kiss as Gojyo barley had a chance to respond, he didn’t think this was real but judging by the snowflakes hitting his cheek this was all too real.

It wasn’t until you pulled back that he finally blinked. Feeling the warmth on your cheeks you gave him a small bow stammering out an apology.

“I’m sorry! I don’t know what came over me! - g-good bye.” Rushing back into the inn you just wanted to hide in your bed leaving the dazed man behind.

Blinking a few times Gojyo wetted his lips, he could still taste the sweetness of your own lips.

“H-hey! Princess wait! I didn’t feel that kiss! Can I have another!”
