“Aloy.”

Her name came out as a warning, and she pressed her lips together to keep from grinning even though he couldn’t see her face.

“Hmm?”

“You’re distracting me.”

“Am I?” she whispered against the back of his neck.

Kotallo sighed, a mixture of exasperation and amusement and entirely fond. He straightened up from where he was hunched over his mechanical arm, working on some intricate repairs on the mechanics of the fingers. His change in position effectively dislodged her lips from his neck, and when he turned around in his seat she had no choice but to let go of his waist and step back.

“I thought you had something important to take care of today?” Kotallo eyed her closely, a brow quirked.

Aloy nodded, tracing a pattern on the floor with the tip of her boot. “I did, but it didn't take as long as planned. So I spent some time catching up with everyone. Then Zo wanted to take the baby back to Plainsong, and Alva and Beta went with her so the trip would be easier. Slyen's is who knows where. And Erend was delayed in Meridian so he won’t be here for another couple days. Which means here I am.” She spread her hands.

“Ah,” Kotallo nodded in understanding. “So now you’re bored and I’m the only one that’s left to entertain you. I’m honored.”

If anything Aloy had avoided bothering him for far longer than she would have liked. She knew he was intent on repairing the mechanical arm, and implementing a few improvements Alva had suggested. So she had spent time with the others, and left him be. If she’d had her way, she would have sought out his company hours ago. Although Aloy would sooner eat her boot before admitting that to him now.

I’m sure you get these all the time. But I’ve never read a long fic like Becoming Whole. And more notably, I haven’t read fanfiction in yeeears. But I’m devouring this. You’ve masterfully adapted the characters and in-game dialogue. I love all the details about timeframes, side jobs, and the pacing of when Aloy goes back to the base. Obviously, love Kotallo’s perspective and seeing what he gets up to day to day. Love the evolution of their relationship. Love the smut lmao.

But more than those things, I really admire and appreciate the straightforward, comfortable (and sexy) discussions of sex and consent. I wish I’d read something like this when I was younger. Seeing characters ask intimate questions without shame, set boundaries, communicate what they want, respect and trust each other with such warmth… Honestly, I’m not exaggerating, this is life-changing writing. I feel like reading this is healing something for me.

I'm so thrilled that you're enjoying the characterizations and the time frames/pacing! I will 100% admit that that stuff is probably inaccurate as fuck but I won't go into a whole long rant about the difficulty of trying to figure out how long it would actually take Aloy to get around via Charger on the map as it exists so I will just say thank you and I'm so thrilled you enjoy the pacing as I've imagined it!😂🙏

But omg, what you said about the frank and comfortable conversations about sex and consent. THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME -- SO SO MUCH. I will fully say that I agree with you re: wishing that there was better education for THE YOUTH about the importance of these kinds of conversations when you're in a relationship and trying to negotiate very intimate issues especially in a new relationship and/or when sex is new. Writing relationships and conversations like this is one of my passions in part because it's healing and fulfilling for me to write them, too! On a more personal note, my husband and I have been together for 10 years now and even we keep learning and growing together in terms of how we talk about sex to both of our benefits (huehuehue! 😏😂😂) and I take every opportunity that I can to wedge this kind of stuff into my fics, so I'm thrilled that it is healing and meaningful to you!!

I know many people headcanon Kotallo as being in his mid-twenties - and all power to them - but when i look at him (and his life story) i really see a guy at least in his thirties, maaybe scratching fourty.

Wrote some fix-it fiction chapters about this.

My take: Erend is dyslexic/has head injuries with no accommodations, but he was so busy trying to flirt with Aloy that she responds to all his attempts to be friendly with shut-it-down remarks instead of actually noticing he’s struggling.

(Possibly my projection of a response. The minute I respond with kindness it’s back to flirting and I have to shut it all down again)

It takes another disabled person - Kotallo - to notice.

Uuhhhh, and then because of My Brain, sexy times ensue.

But you could just stop with the first chapter before they start flirting heavily I dunno.

Just read chapter 2 ⬇️ if you aren’t into explicit stuff. (There is tiny amounts of preliminary flirting)

Erend in Forbidden West

maybe controversial opinion again but another thing i've noticed so far in Forbidden West is that they lowkey kinda butchered Erend...

idk if anyone else feels this way, i never see it talked about, but i swear to god he didn't used to be so one-dimensional. Again i'm only halfway through the game so there's hope for change, but i recently rewatched the Ersa mission in ZD and it just made me realise how he used to have so much character outside of just "haha funny dumb alcoholic", and that seems to be all he is in the second game (so far). I'm sooo sick of hearing constant jokes about how he's stupid, clumsy, drunk and annoying, as if that's all he is when i swear he didn't used to be. Sure there were jokes about him being a drunk in Zero Dawn too but it wasn't the majority of his character! They can have him be the comic relief character without making that ALL he is 😭 i'm honestly really really hoping we get more serious scenes with him to cancel this out... justice for Erend man, he's supposed to be more than that.
