Eowyn was never the heir in the books.
Whenever people criticise Eowyn's choices in the books, and justify Theoden and Eomer and the rest's actions towards her, basically trying to say that they weren't overwhelmingly influenced by sexism in the choices they made for Eowyn (and never allowed Eowyn to make for herself) one of the things that comes up is that Eowyn is the last of the Eorl line and therefore has to stay away from battle so she can live and inherit the throne if Eomer and Theoden both die.
Eowyn was never intended by Theoden to inherit.
After Theoden oh so charmingly forgets that Eowyn is even a viable choice to rule in his stead, he makes her interrim ruler on the people's request. But then he says that if he and Eomer both die, then the peolpe are to choose a new lord to rule them. Even then, Eowyn still isn't his heir, or an heir at all, like Eomer is.
Eowyn was always going to be left behind. Eowyn was always going to be locked in the cage and left to burn. She wasn't left behind by her family because they had chosen her to lead while they were away. If anyone else was chosen as interrim leader, then Eowyn wouldn't have been a leader or been needed and she would have been left behind anyway.
Eowyn wasn't left behind so she could become queen if Theoden and Eomer died, because Theoden never acknowledged Eowyn as an heir.
Eowyn was left behind because she was a woman. And that is unjust.
What's fascinating is that Eowyn was chosen by the people, by the riders and non-royal Rohirrim, who knew Eowyn and knew her qualities, to lead. And at the same time, it was the people who aided her in going to war, who turned a blind eye at her presence and pretended she was just another rider called Dernhelm.
Theoden didn't choose for Eowyn to rule or inherit, nor did he allow her to choose to ride to war with him. He didn't respect her as a leader nor as an autonomous being. Not like Hama and Elfhelm and Elfhelm's Eored and all the public they represented did. The people of Rohan chose for Eowyn to lead them, they asked for her, but when she wished for nothing more than to ride to battle and face death head on, instead of waiting for it to come to her, they helped her follow through on the choices she made.

"our grandpa made a respectful gay joke? i didn't know he knew how to do that!" -me when my grandpa makes a respectful gay joke
and the joke, for those of you who might be curious: "Someone told me my jacket looked gay, and so i told them "it just came out of the closet!""

crazy that there's less casual misogyny in a book written by jane austen, an actual regency era woman, than in a book written by an ostensibly modern woman like julia quinn.

I think you said you didn't like Ray Chen a while back. Can you say why is that? Thank you
I mean Ray Chen as a person and Ray Chen as a soloist are very different things but also tbh I'm not a fan of either. Lol
To break it down I still like him as a person more than I like him as a musician. I think he's fine, I don't believe his skill is like, overestimated, he's definitely got some room to grow. It's just that his interpretations don't really speak to me. He's very percussive and aggressive and I prefer the opposite side of the spectrum if not the healthy medium. I liked his Summer and Winter and I think I enjoyed his Korngold?? I don't remember actually, I'm due for a relisten. His Mendelssohn third mvt is also Up There for me but other than that I found his core repertoire (Sibelius, Tchaik, Mendelssohn) to be unsuitable for his style. Which is a personal preference and it's fine.
As a person he cheated on his girlfriend which is like not the worst thing in the world to do with his sort of power over people (compared to like fucking. Joshua Bell or JEG that's actually nothing unfortunately. I know Garnider is a conductor but bear with me) but still morally reprehensible. Which I can kinda look past on if I try hard enough because like who the fuck actually knows what's in his head and cheating is... Usually more complicated than people think idk. But still ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm also more on a "wary of him" than "strictly dislike him" side I guess because he's like... Rich, anon. Like unreasonably rich. Like 1% rich. He's on Forbes list and he's not particularly shy about it. Which is just strange to me because I don't believe he's a self-made millionaire either, no other soloist currently has as much money as he does even if they performed much longer. So there's some family money involved here as far as I'm concerned. Which is not necessarily a negative thing and as far as we can tell he does use those money in a normal human way and not in an obnoxious millionaire way but it still makes me go kinda 👀 at him. Like whoooo knows what's going on behind the curtain there. Which is a sensible approach to take about just about any celebrity tbh.
Edit to add because I forgor: I think he's also either pro-AI or doesn't care or doesn't want to take a stance at the risk of losing his audience which is. Unfortunately something that a lot of soloists do recently but it still doesn't quite put me towards him :/ I think he's done some videos using AI which is like if he doesn't Know he should know better and if he knows and doesn't care or even approves of it then yeah it checks out with his techbro adjustant persona unfortunately
So yeah there's your answer. Sorry this isn't really that comprehensive because genuinely I don't believe he's actually done anything Absolutely Abhorrent like the aforementioned two did. I simply do not Vibe with him 😔

A show I rewatched every decade or less for the main romance and relationship. I love, love Maggie Cheung Ho Yee and her character here (and her short hair was stunning), and while the stories could be much better, they were still okay. The show aged quite well. I learned a few useful things from this show.
The main pairing here is still one of the healthiest, most mature and egalitarian (modern) relationship I have had the pleasure to feast onscreen, and some of the tropes are my favourites too, e.g., the main male character feeding his lady love with his excellent cooking skills, relatively straightforward commmunication/confession etc. The visuals were gold too (though am/was not much of a fan of Gallen Lo, they made for a beautifully striking pair).
The main pair’s dynamics were made even better by their contrast with the somewhat - not particularly healthy and often annoying - ‘stereotypical het’ relationship of the second leads.
A favourite which stood the test of time.

btw--i mention this in the replies to the post but im gonna say it on my actual blog bc it feels worth mb saying--my sexual abuse meta doesn't address the ending/climax for bin.gq.iu or most of the extras bc i dont want to get into all of that emotionally. suffice it to say that despite finding it very compelling ive got a lot of issues and mixed feelings towards both canon & fandom

i feel like i have really good luck with avoiding things. i never got into the Harry Potter books (or movies), even though lots of my friends were reading them. i never got into watching The Sopranos, so i wasn't that mad at the ending. i could NOT get into Game of Thrones, so i was also saved that ending.
i guess the lesson is, if you're busy or you try it and hate it, hit the bricks!

playing an ongoing game called ‘learn whats acceptable to say in someones tags or get blocked’. a lot of you are losing.
#i know i can be cringe or annoying but like. theres a difference between joking on something vs fucking insulting someone you dont know#is this person talking about something they enjoy that you dont? filter the tag and post content and go on with your day#if theyre too annoying then just unfollow for a bit and check back later even#is this person a fan of a character you hate?? put it on your own post instead of coming onto someones account to bitch in their tags#you are literally insulting a real life person over a fictional character. over a show. over a comic. what is wrong with you.#unless the thing they like is actively rooted in real life hate (racism sexism misogyny ableism transphobia etc) that will reflect#and cause real life harm then it literally doesn't fucking matter if you disagree with someone.#youre not making me want to read and consider your opinion about something i literally consume for fun and because haha autism s/i#by calling me an idiot or by saying how i (a disabled person) am ‘braindead because i have a different opinion or whatever.#youre just being mean because you feel like you have an excuse to pretend youre superior to someone#like idk how to break it to you but dick grayson isnt going to suck your dick despite you insulting a real person over him lmao.#anyways. im going to block you if you insult me. im going to block you if you see my post on something i like thats harmless and tell me#how much you personally hate it or disagree. i dont care. make your own post because now you cant make it on mine.#and my anon is temporarily off (sorry shy mutuals </3) because a lot of ppl dont have common decency on what's okay to say or demand lol

I apologize that this will probably be my at least third or fourth time posting this song, but I realized something while listening to this song just now:
"It went so well for you With a place right where you wanted And the ones to fill it, too But some blows break the spell That it hits you every day Until you need to hit as well
It’s just a shadow of the man you should be Like a garden in the forest that the world will never see You have no thought of answers only questions to be filled And it feels like hell"
By putting this verse before this chorus, he's obviously relating everything in the first verse to the main subject in the chorus...in this case, speaking to men and masculinity as the main subject. And what I, strangely, just now realized he's saying with the chorus acting as a reply to the first verse, is that it doesn't have to be that way - "It's just a shadow of the man you should be" means, particularly regarding the cynicism of the latter half of the first verse, that such daily violence (some justifiable, he suggests with "But some blows break the spell/That it hits you every day/Until you need to hit as well") should not be equated with masculinity, and equating the two should NOT be the norm.
He seriously, so seriously, said 'Fuck your toxic masculinity, WE SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS.' 😭💗 Of course, with the line "You have no thought of answers only questions to be filled/And it feels like hell," he's obviously also saying 'I have no idea how to fix this, though, but hey, AT LEAST I'M ACKNOWLEDGING IT.' True that, man.

the discussions surrounding q!ironmouse being infantilized just reaffirms my belief in what i call 'the pink curse', which im not even entirely sure how to describe but i hope this makes sense
[and ill preface all of this by saying this is just a very small part of the issue and is more so a result of sexism/misogny and my thoughts on this are based on what ive witnessed in various fandoms and my own personal experiences]
the thing is, if youre a woman or perceived as one and you like pink [and/or cute things] then thats all people are going to attribute to you and itll directly affect how they treat you, often by woobifying and infantilizing you
literally nothing else matters--pinks your favorite color? you like pretty and cute things sometimes? youre an "uwu baby so childlike teehee must protecc"
doesnt matter if youre an adult and if you have other interests that are more important/prominent to you and it doesnt matter what your actual personality is like. youve been branded
in mouse's case, yeah she likes cute stuff and pink and has the high pitch voice, but she is literally satan, the queen of hell and canonically thousands of years old. to be fair i havent watched her very much prior to qsmp aside from some clips on tiktok but i honestly dont see how people are pigeon-holing her into this 'uwu child' role, especially when considering whats canon, when shes rather chaotic and likes to play horror games--despite getting scared easily--because she likes the feeling of being scared
ill give the benefit of the doubt that maybe people just havent watched her enough and i know that people treating someone this way because they like pink--and disregarding literally everything else about them--is just a result of misogony and stereotyping but it sucks not being able to really enjoy something just so people will take you more seriously
