LETS START AT THE VERY BEGINNING.........

Quite frankly, I find the high street shopping experience  D U L L   (to be polite). 

Being a big lady of the six foot variety, most clothes I purchase either look like I've stolen them from my little sister or leave nothing to the imagination. I find them ill fitting, samey and badly made (for my budget), not to mention the unethical manufacturing aspect of it.

The key aim of my BLOG is to share my love, obsession and passions for rummaging, making, sewing, sourcing and bloody bargain hunting.

FIVE quid, size 20, wear it over-sized.......

We all read and enjoy a smashing DIY tip and trick, but love it even more if the technique costs you 50p and even even even more if you find half of the equipment needed in a charity shop box for £1.50.

I aim to drag you around my favorite charity shops, fabric shops, car boot sales, markets and house clearance spots. To share my secrets, tricks and tips and describe where to source and salvage awesome items.

I will also teach you how to alter, customise and adapt, enabling you to add flair and improve the fit.

Why??? Why not.

Folk ask me all the time where my clothes are from..... I usually reply, "£2.00, charity shop".

Hopefully they’re not just being polite.....

I recently sourced and made my wedding outfit for a grand total of £15.00, ‘sponsored’ 50% by Ebay and 50% by Freecycle.

My last but by no means least obsession is my utter love for all things African. I have absolutely no connection to any African countries, other than my ability to hoard any handcrafted delights that I manage to salvage (usually from charity shops or home clearances). I don’t sell them, just squeeze them into my shoe box-sized flat.

I also can’t forget to mention my excessive archive of Ridley Road Market’s finest  African waxed and batik cotton. 

(The word hoarder springs to mind as I read this).

I introduce these fabrics and hand-sewn creations to my students, who are based in and around Hackney. I have been running  these community-based workshops and fashion courses for the last four years.

From January 2017 I will be running pop up courses in and around HACKNEY, where you can join, learn and collaborate.
