It's a story of Alok and Animesh. Alok, who is used to failures finds it difficult to cope up with life once again, that when a doorbell rings and there he was his Savior. . How? Why him? Who is he, why he is here? There were many questions on my mind too just like Alok. . First of all, I loved the format and storyline of the book. It is Magical!!! It takes you to the explorative journey with some intriguing characters like the Magician, wizard and the Maiden. . The plot of the book is fascinating with the practical scenarios. With the simple narration and engaging writing style, the author keeps the reader hooked throughout with some great conversations. I loved how the author sequenced the events, each event has a different story to tell, a different thought which can make a huge impact on our lives. . The well-developed characters with lots of drama and dialogues make the story more interesting. I like Animesh perspective, towards life. I watched #SevenSundays yesterday and I must say, it is really heartrending - it can move anybody to tears... actually 90% of the movie made me cry, but not only it made me wept, it also gave me so much realization about life especially about family. . . . A) We sometimes forget that as we (sons/daughters) are growing older and starting to live our own lives, our parents are being left alone. We sometimes ignore them and would only get the chance to be with them when it’s already too late. Remember, our parents are there when we were growing, this time, let us be with them as they are getting older. Make them happy whilst they are there. . . . B) As a grown-up, it is your job to take responsibility for your emotional well-being. You have complete, total control and power over yoursel, so you are responsible for every area of your life, including feelings of anger, jealousy, hatred, guilt, etc. which you carry with you on a daily basis that could be affecting you and the people around you more than you realize. It’s always best to release those through communication. Never let these negatives things rot your whole being. . . . C) Problems are just problems; family is family. No matter how big your problems are, your family will always be there to lend you their helping hands. They will always understand us despite our shortcomings because they love us. Just put this in mind, famILY ends in ILY meaning “I LOVE YOU.” . . . D) Life is a precious gift, it must be spent with the people who can make it longer. Seven Sundays (2017)

During my 9th grade, Russelle and I made it a point to see movies in the cinema at least once a week, every Sunday after mass. We would go to mass in the afternoon and spend the rest of our day at the mall watching movies.

It was October of 2017 where Seven Sundays premiered on SM Cinemas, and we always made sure that we won’t miss to watch it especially if it was directed by a well-known Director—Cathy Garcia-Molina. We went to our normal routine before going inside the cinema, I went down to the ground floor and bought some caramel flavored popcorn at Kettle Korn and Russelle lined up at snack time beside the cinema to buy water and waffles.

The plot of the movie no longer comes as a surprise because it was the typical classic Filipino family drama where it comes to a point where the characters burst out under intense emotions. Although the movie is cliché, Russelle and I have a soft spot when it comes to family dramas or movies and as expected, we cried ourselves out in the theaters like no-one was around us. We looked weird and crazy because every time we see each other cry on our ugliest face we would say “pangit mo” and laugh loudly.

Unfortunately, of all the days that we always brought our handkerchief, that day neither of us brought a handkerchief with us not even a piece of tissue. We were completely stressed out looking for something to wipe our tears. Just as I was about to stand up and run to the men’s bathroom to get us tissues, I heard Russelle tearing the brown paper bag and using it to wipe her tears and that made me sit back again and laughed out loud with our “kadugyutan”.

This experience is something we both really treasure, and we can clearly tell this story as if it just happened recently. Watching Seven Sundays made us realize the importance of having time for your family, this movie will let you experience a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Weekly Visual and Sonic Aesthetics

After Kendrick Lamar released the single “From the Heart Part IV,” social media was in a frenzy about the artists that he was dissing [Drake and Big Sean], the climate of Hip Hop production, and, of course, the greatest rappers of this new generation.  I am definitely a huge Kendrick fan and apathetic toward Drake and Big Sean’s music, so the song felt like a victory for me as well in many ways.  After the song dropped and I took a thorough listen, I spoke to my friend Javonne, who works in the music industry in L.A.,  about the details of the song, and some of the background politics in Hip Hop.  During our impassioned conversation, we dove into some ideas about how certain artist camps’ depiction of material realities, and how that extends to sonic and visual aesthetics.

This conversation brought me to look at what music I had in rotation.  I  wanted pair the cover art together to possibly trace whether their were visual and sonic continuities across the works.   Looking at the works visually, they seem to draw on similar aesthetics. Sonically, although the fall into different genres and styles, each album seems to draw on similar instrumental inspiration.  It is interesting to look at what kind of aesthetic space you could be in, in a given week.
