🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
Broadnose Sevengill Sharks, are also known as Cow Sharks 😍 (I'm obsessed with cows), have different sets of teeth. The teeth on this shark’s lower jaw are comb shaped, while the teeth in its upper jaw are jagged. When biting large prey, the shark anchors its jaw with the lower teeth, then thrashes its head back and forth to saw off pieces of flesh with its upper teeth.
*As far as I can gather, they were formerly called cow sharks because of their docile nature and facial structure (small eyes, wide heads, blunt snouts).* The term refers to many species of six and sevengill sharks.*

shark of the day: broadnose sevengill shark, notorynchus cepedianus
------------------------------------------------------------
the broadnose sevengill shark is one of two living shark species with seven gill slits, as opposed to the usual five. they can grow to be nearly 3 metres(~10 ft) in length. broadnose sevengills are spread worldwide and live in primarily benthic coastal waters near continental shelves, though older, larger ones may inhabit much deeper waters. they feed on a wide variety of prey, including other elasmobranchs, bony fishes, marine mammals(especially seals), and various invertibrates.

Fossil Shark Teeth ID Project - Update
I am currently working on a shark teeth ID project. It is a personal project I am working on because I got gifted a multitude of fossil shark teeth of various species.
I have not made a post on this project in forever, so I felt it was time to post an update.
I have been working on a database with information on the fossil shark teeth.
I have 66 teeth in total, I made a picture of each and assigned each picture an ID number #. I sorted the teeth into envelopes, each containing 15 teeth. I did this so I could easier differentiate the teeth, when wanting to remeasure them or for other reasons.
For each tooth I noted the prescence of the root, the root type, the prescence of cusplets, the different measurements, the species and the scientific name of these species.
I have not been able to adequately fill in the information for each tooth, but I am working on it,
I might post "Fossil Shark Teeth ID Project - Part 3" later, specifically on some of the teeth I have been able to ID as Cosmopolitodus hastalis.
Note: The data in the database in the picture might change later on, this is just a snapshot, nothing permanent. If anyone is interested in an (possibly) updated snapshot of the database, just do an ask on my profile or send me a Direct Message.

HELLO. as some of you may know i went to a very Big aquarium on monday and i said i would post pictures. this is it. BUADBKASBDKJ
this is a broadnose sevengill shark. when i came to the aquarium i was most excited to see these little guys (well, not technically little but theyre just Guys) as the name implies, they have seven gill slits instead of the regular five. you may also notice that they look a bit prehistoric. thats because they kind of are. sevengills are a type of cowshark which is in the same family as frilled sharks and they are some of the oldest sharks that are still swimming around down there. i personally love cowsharks i find them to be very cute and i was literally crying when i saw them in the tank
this is a spiny dogfish. this is the most Normal picture i got of this guy the entire time. he was literally following me and i know it was the same guy because his nose was kind of bloody. which poor little guy but also it was very funny that he kept coming up to me.
here is another picture of the same spiny dogfish. no joke he was following me. if i can upload the video i took i will.
ANYWAY. i dont actually know that much about spiny dogfish but i should get on that tbh. i will forever stand by my statement that dogfish sharks are the silliest guys in the whole ocean and i LOVE silly sharks
this is a scalloped hammerhead. i dont actually know very much about this particular species either but i do know that they, as a whole, have a symbiotic relationship with barberfish. the hammerheads swim near the barberfish and when they jerk their tails, the barberfish know to go clean their teeth. its like a little shark dentist. in this particular picture, this was the only hammerhead in the tank, which has 1.2 million gallons of water in it and nothing on the bottom to imitate the open ocean for pelagic fish and turtles. (there were two turtles they were very cute but i am not a turtle guy so i will not be talking about them)
this is a leopard shark. they had A Lot of leopard sharks everywhere. there were a lot in this tank that i took this picture in and then there were a few in the sevengills tank and there were like two or three in a shallower pool with some bat stingrays (which are adorable and i will be learning more about them because they are so fucking cute)
extra pictures under the cut :D
#sharks#SHARKS!!!!!!!!#I GOT TO SEE THEM!!!!!!!#broadnose sevengill shark#leopard shark#spiny dogfish#scalloped hammerhead#also not sharks#fish!!!!!!!#rays!!!!!!!#and a swellshark egg shell in the last photo

i could NOT be torn away from the kelp forest ^^

Info dump to me about the sharkies I WANT TO KNOW 1. Most aggressive sharkie 2. Fastest Sharkie 3. Strangest sharkie 4. Oldest Sharkie 5. Smallest Sharkie 6. Biggest Sharkie 7. Slowest Sharkie 8. Cutest Sharkie 9. "Ugliest" Sharkie
heheheh i know all of this from the top of my head 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈
Bull sharks! they're the most aggresive towards humans along with great whites and tiger shark
Shortfin makos!!!
This is more subjective and i'd say goblin sharks, frilled sharks and cookie cutter are probably some of the weirdest ones. Honorable mention: the helicoprion (extinct friend but he was so strange <33)
Okay so the shark that can grow the oldest is the greenland shark, they can reach more than 400 years old The oldest *species* is the frilled shark! Along with the rest of the hexanchiformes order (this are sixgill and sevengill sharks)
Dwarf lantern shark! he's just a leetol guy
Whale shark! it's also the biggest fish in general followed by the basking shark
Greenland sharks, they're just vibing in the water
Subjective again, small sharks definetly get to me. Spotted catsharks, zebra pups, and nurse sharks too
In general people will probably say goblin? I think they're really weird and that's the thing i like the most about creatures so <3

I say "had to" but like if you chose it of your own free will that's cool too. Sorry for the grouping, feel free to specify (or explain) your choice in the tags/replies
