Leap Year Day update, because I thought that would be a neat date to have on this fic.

Very extremely recommend reading the chapter before looking at the art.

Tmw you finally fulfill your years' old desire to paint some fucking fantasy deer.

I sketched the original idea for this scene and posted it a whiiiiiiiile back, and now that idea is part of the story.

Now that the chapter is out, I can get back to finalizing the final pop-up shop stuff and, uh, stopping neglecting the hella expensive figure invention for character animation I'm taking for the spring semester.

pretty minor thing to think about, but i find it interesting how chapter 7 is the first chapter illustration to show chizuutan as chizuru (instead of chuutan)

like, i get it’s a flashback chapter, but we hardly got to see her as chizuru in the previous few chapters thus far… maybe we’ll get to see more of her as her true self after the hiyori fight/make up? only future chapters may tell, i guess…

me after editing the aau prologue for the bajillionth time

#First chapter I changed the opening bc I always thought it felt off/abrupt and wanted to have it be prince pov from the start #I wanna get in his head more ok sue me #Beyond that tho it was just some wording edits #Specifically with the internal dialogue moments I helped them flow more/feel more like thoughts #Also mj gets a bit more of their usual edge/pessimism bc the prologue they always felt a bit too “ówò sad poor smol bean” or whatever #That’s it tho chapter 4 I didn’t change bc it’s peak #Did add some teases to later things tho like snatch senses mjs soul at the end of his chap but doesn’t realize it #Or like I added the Not Now running thing in the earlier chapters bc it was more of a chapter 4 thing so I wanted 2 set it up more so boom #I think that’s all the notable edits ig like I said just description additions the only actual new thing is the opener for chap 1 👍#Also also I got to include a hc that I have that I neglected to do before but I hc a!prince used plural internal dialogue #Because lol we love dramatic irony in this house #Grace post #this reminds me tho one of these days I should look through heart strings chapter one to look for editing things #Bc I think I did that recently but I don’t remember it much tho #Mostly just when the Hat stuff starts that was the parts I never directly rewrote I just edited them so they feel out of place in my brain #Also I’d wanna edit her dialogue bc it *was* in character (after rereading her diary’s to confirm) but I wanna have her be a bit more snark #Hat is Hard bc i Need the balance of cute little kid and also smug little shit (affectionate) like she is a pain to write man cries #This is just me rambling lol ignore it I just wanted to spam aau thoughts #In other news I made shapes redesigns but I’m on the fence on posting them bc idk if I wanna spoil or not hhhhhhhhh #Nowadays I’m more chill w spoiling things than I used to be #But there are a handful of things I’ve kept shut about (ex being princes name or mjs species stuff etc)#So I’m not sure if this thing with shapes i should keep secret or just post bc I used to spoil it but idk now #Shrugs #maybe I’ll do a poll later I dunno #Ok yapping over byeeeeee

as tempted as i am to post it today, i know the last scene could use another edit and i have to go to this wedding so it will be up!!! tomorrow!!!

i figure i've already made people wait two months, whats another day to make sure this chapter is really REALLY polished?

I'm still so mad that August Kitko was such a mid book and like I would go do far as to say maybe it was bad but it's likely it just wasn't for me.

And then I read Hell Followed With Us and realize hey now... there's a lot of similarities between these two books and wow i am enjoying this other book way more. I almost want to dig into that and figure out why. Can you ever dislike something so much you want to take a scalpel to it and dissect it to find the bloody heart? Yeah that's what I'm feeling with August Kitko... it kinda sucks but I need to know why it makes me so mad.

#cat rambles #both books are about queer people at the end of the world #both are written by trans authors and yet the queerness is handled so differently #i just.... hell followed with us manages to really get into the world building and it feels alive despite most of hunanity being dead #akatmfs just... it feels so surface level and the more i think about thst book the more pissed off i get #i really wanted to like it SO BADLY AND YET I AM JUST SEETHING #i did finish akatmfs and i was just disaappinted at the ending #there are moments in hell followed with us that made me shriek out loud like OH SHIT ya know???#i like it when authors do interesting things with their medium #andrew joseph white does that so well with the spirit bears its teeth and with hell followed with us #ann leckie also does this well just with how she writes the characters and differing perspectives #akatmfs just.... even with two main characters it just doesnt do anything interesting with that #LIKE FUCK okay #chapter 1 is from gus's pov which is good! then chapter 2 is all from ardent's persepctive iirc #thats cool!!! i like different povs but then it just starts changing pov in the middle of yhe chapter and that just.... okay i guess #i thought you were setting up this cool rhing IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO COOL #theres a part where gus gets kocked the fuck out #imagine if instead of having thet dull ass conversation with Infinite the chapter was just kike a single line of him passed out and then we #snap back to ardent #THAT WOULD BE THRILLING #THAT WOULD BE SUSPENSEFUL BC WE DONT KNOW WHATLL HAPPEN TO GUS #but no we get thus dumb ass concersation between gus and infinite that i just disnt care for #i read it all and god i just rolled my eyes becasue of course the book reveals the mystery of where the Vanguards cane from so fast #maybe i just gotta write an essay about this idk #i have thoughts

this is. um. a Jet Set Radio/Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Death joke AU, spawned out of a in-joke that started in a pokepasta discord. my apologies to both the pokepasta and jsr fandoms

the entire basis is the idea that Corn in Future retconned og JSR Beat as leader/founder of the GGs (is beat being leader in the og even CANON?) so Corn and Beat are the Myras. no it's not a joke funny enough to justify how many hours i sunk into drawing these. no attempt was made to change the setting, assign most of the other cast, or otherwise make this au hold up to ANY amount of scrutiny. if i tried to make this actually work somehow then i'd REALLY end up too far gone. also i keep calling myrtle!beat "Meat".
