Obi-Wan 7yo, wakes up from naptime in the creche after a Very Important Vision
Immediately skips bail to go out into the temple proper, following whispers of the force (more like cackling lmao) till he gets to a training salle
Training salle is occupied by 15-18yo padawans in the middle of practice, one of which being Kelleran Beq, The Sabered Hand, who is a cheerful teen who wants to be a creche master after he’s knighted
Of course an unaccompanied initiate in the salles is always a cause for concern, so Kelleran comes over to coax the boy into telling him why he’s wandered off
Obi: I’m going with you next month when you go to the production studios for your first filming of the Jedi Temple Challenge
Is questioned on if his creche master just told him that??
Nah he saw it in a dream
Cool cool cool Kelleran LOVES the possessed ones, they’re so cute
Asks kiddo why he thinks he’s going with
Cause Obi-Wan needs an escort to audition for the next season of Sesame System, a show that teaches children and reduces the galaxy’s gap of learning between the poor and the rich, so he can teach the galaxy about what it’s like to be a Jedi!
Okay okay that’s chill lil buddy, Kelleran will be in the production studio anyways cause they’re in the same place
Turns out the REAL Jedi Temple Challenge was the 10 under 10s Kelleran got to help wrangle along the way
Not fully sure where this is going other than Jango Fett (only 3 years older here and not 6) ending up on the same season of Sesame System only for him and Jaster (who’s also got the exact same goals of endearing the public to Mandalorians and is using the show to help point out the Mandalorian kids shows the galaxy can show their kids too, while Obi is pointing at Jedi Temple Challenge) to immediately decide that’s a prime little buddy and now they wanna keep him
The temple settles on a middle ground of letting them babysit Obi sometimes by sticking him in Mando production studios
Kelleran is very worried about baby getting kidnapped by the prince of Mandalore but accepts that Obi also really likes the prince they’re vode now
I. Fucking. Love. Childrens early educational shows and stuff like that. And I want to write an entire series about the shows the Jedi and Mandos could put out to endear themselves to the galaxy and it’s basically propaganda but not bad because the Sith could never get a foothold because Jedi are just sweet little guys with god powers what’s not to love lol
And then the ideas combined in my head when this last Mando episode reminded me of Jedi Temple Challenge (I never actually watched it but I did overall hear about it when it aired) and I decided Kelleran needs to make my dumb ideas a reality.
Obi’s master is a Jedi who’s been doing acting their whole life too but it can’t be Mace because Mace is a theater kid and not a kids show kid he needs a less theatric and more educational master 😔
Ani ends up being on a couple seasons of Sesame System (I specifically chose this as a parody idea because I have BEYOND respect for Sesame Street and I truly believe in the power of kindness and friendship the show likes to give us) when Obi-Wan first finds him and Ani is really nervous at first but they let him rant about sand on the show so they’re chill now
Qui-Gon is not Obi’s master but he DID get wrangled into taking Kelleran and the kids to the studio (it’s in fairly neutral area on a station, but around a planet for outdoor scenes because it’s just easier for legal reasons) and that led to them missing the Telos mission and Xanatos got therapy instead and Qui-Gon isn’t an asshole cause he’s still got his kids
Shmi works on the production station
More kids shows in fantasy and sci-fi settings plz.

at the beginning of 2023, sesame became a federally recognized allergen, and so various manufacturers of hamburger buns (among other things) got together and said to themselves, "obviously what we are supposed to do here is to try to prevent sesame seeds from getting into our products that aren't supposed to contain them. but that is too hard. it is too hard to update our factories to avoid cross-contamination." and everyone nodded sagely, because they had never known the sinking, terrified moment right after you've swallowed poison, when it's too late to take it back, and no matter what you do you're going to have to Deal With This Now.
the burger bun manufacturers said to themselves, "hey, what if we just added the allergen to our products? it'll be such a trace amount that the taste won't change for all of the normal people, but anyone who's allergic to sesame will become poisoned and maybe die if they eat it. i, a cackling monstrosity who sits upon my throne of money like a bloated tick, see no downsides to this." and they all nodded sagely at each other again, because probably everyone allergic to sesame is faking it anyway, and they have never had to look at or deal with them in any meaningful way.
anyway, all of this definitely happened verbatim, and the bun manufacturers are perfectly within their rights to do this, but i think it should be within my rights to demand satisfaction from them in an honorable duel.
also, if i win my honorable duel against the CEOs of various bread companies, including Brownberry Wheat and Dave's Killer Bread, among others, i should get to eat those guys. i have been a vegetarian since i was 7 or 8, so i am not equipped from a dietary, physiological, or psychological standpoint to eat the flesh of my defeated opponents, but i will do it. i will take my epinephrine and just go chimpanzee on a guy. i'm ready. i went to the store today and the only bun i could find for my veggie burgers that wouldn't send me to the hospital was less than an inch thick and was basically round soda bread. usually i make my own buns but i am recovering from major surgery and don't have the energy to carefully portion out flour and sugar and yeast by weight, so now i have to deal with this. this veggie burger looks like a goddamn ice cream sandwich. it looks like a moon pie. i have been furious for three months.

My theory, and this is one that I've seen before is that all of the adults on Sesame Street treat Rocko as if he's not Zoe's imaginary friend, but actually alive because way back when, everyone thought Snuffelupagus was Big Bird's imaginary friend. Everyone was shocked and felt bad about how they had acted towards Big Bird about Snuffy after finding out he was actually real. This remains in all of the Sesame Street adult's minds with other "imaginary friends" while they are all pretty sure Rocko is just a rock, they don't want a repeat of the Snuffy situation.
While I believe all of this to be true, the way that everyone puts the needs of a rock, above the needs of monsters, specifically Elmo, is disgusting to me. Someone needs to sit down with Zoe and tell her that even though Rocko is her friend that she needs to make some compromises because, even as a three year old, she needs to learn that emotional manipulation of her friends isn't okay.
All of the adults are trying to do their best while taking care of Zoe's needs, but they need to do something to help Elmo and take care of his needs. Zoe and Elmo are both three years old and need to learn that other people have feelings and needs. Zoe knows that she can use Rock to get what she wants while also hurting Elmo, and she takes full advantage of that. The adults have a responsibility to teach Zoe that she is hurting Elmo because Sesame Street as a program has the responsibility to teach children that it is not okay to ignore the autonomy, needs, or feelings of another person.

SENDING THIS OUT AND SAVING THIS FOR MY KIDS!
In the early 70s Sesame Street was created with an eye towards educating poor, inner-city children for free, and became a massive hit with all children. In 2016, faced with going off the air forever after facing conservative efforts to destroy public broadcasting since basically its beginning, new episodes became a timed exclusive for premium cable network HBO. In 2022 HBO Max, newly merged with and taken over by reality TV channel Discovery, removed Sesame Street episodes and spin-offs from streaming as a tax write-off and scheme to avoid paying residuals.

[ID: A decorative orange ceramic plate with a pyramid of green herbs and sesame seeds, topped with deep red sumac and more sesame seeds. End ID]
زعتر فلسطيني / Za'tar falastinia (Palestinian spice blend)
Za'tar (زَعْتَر; also transliterated "za'atar," "zaatar" and "zatar") is the name of a family of culinary herbs; it is also the name of a group of spice blends made by mixing these herbs with varying amounts of olive oil, sumac, salt, roasted sesame seeds, and other spices. Palestinian versions of za'tar often include caraway, aniseed, and roasted wheat alongside generous portions of sumac and sesame seeds. The resulting blend is bold, zesty, and aromatic, with a hint of floral sourness from the sumac, and notes of licorice and anise.
Za'tar is considered by Palestinians to have particular national, political, and personal importance, and exists as a symbol of both Israeli oppression and Palestinian home-making and resistance. Its major components, olive oil and wild thyme, are targeted by the settler state in large part due to their importance to ecology, identity, and trade in Palestine—settlers burn and raze Palestinian farmers' olive trees by the thousands each year. A 1977 Israeli law forbade the harvesting of wild herbs within its claimed borders, with violators of the law risking fines and confiscation, injury, and even death from shootings or land mines; in 2006, za'tar was further restricted, such that even its possession in the West Bank was met with confiscation and fines.
Despite the blanket ban on harvesting wild herbs (none of which are endangered), Arabs are the only ones to be charged and fined for the crime. Samir Naamnih calls the ban an attempt to "starve us out," given that foraging is a major source of food for many Palestinians, and that picking and selling herbs is often the sole form of income for impoverished families. Meanwhile, Israeli farmers have domesticated and farmed za'tar on expropriated Palestinian land, selling it (both the herb and the spice mixture) back to Palestinians, and later marketing it abroad as an "Israeli" blend; they thus profit from the ban on wild harvesting of the herb. This farming model, as well as the double standard regarding harvesting, refer back to an idea that Arabs are a primitive people unfit to own the land, because they did not cultivate or develop it as the settlers did (i.e., did not attempt to recreate a European landscape or European models of agriculture); colonizing and settling the land are cast as justified, and even righteous.
The importance of the ban on foraging goes beyond the economic. Raya Ziada, founder of an acroecology nonprofit based in Ramallah, noted in 2019 that "taking away access to [wild herbs] doesn't just debilitate our economy and compromise what we eat. It's symbolic." Za'tar serves variously as a symbol of Palestinians' connection to the land and to nature; of Israeli colonial dispossession and theft; of the Palestinian home ("It’s a sign of a Palestinian home that has za’tar in it"); and of resistance to the colonial regime, as many Palestinians have continued to forage herbs such as za'tar and akkoub in the decades since the 1977 ban. Resistance to oppression will continue as long as there is oppression.
Palestine Action has called for bail fund donations to aid in their storming, occupying, shutting down, and dismantling of factories and offices owned by Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems. Also contact your representatives in the USA, UK, and Canada.
Ingredients:
Za'tar (Origanum syriacum), 250g once dried (about 4 cups packed)
250g (1 2/3 cup) sesame seeds
170g (3/4 cup) Levantine sumac berries, or ground sumac (Rhus coriaria)
100g (1/2 cup) wheat berries (optional)
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp aniseed (optional)
1/2 Tbsp caraway seeds (optional)
Levantine wild thyme (also known as Bible hyssop, Syrian oregano, and Lebanese oregano) may be purchased dried online. You may also be able to find some dried at a halal grocery store, where it will be labelled "زعتر" (za'tar) and "thym," "thyme," or "oregano." Check to make sure that what you're buying is just the herb and not the prepared mixture, which is also called "زعتر." Also ensure that what you're buying is not a product of Israel.
If you don't have access to Levantine thyme, Greek or Turkish oregano are good substitutes.
Wheat berries are the wheat kernel that is ground to produce flour. They may be available sold as "wheat berries" at a speciality health foods store. They may be omitted, or replaced with pre-ground whole wheat flour.
Instructions:
1. Harvest wild thyme and remove the stems from the leaves. Wash the leaves in a large bowl of water and pat dry; leave in a single layer in the sun for four days or so, until brittle. Skip this step if using pre-dried herbs.
2. Crumble leaves by rubbing them between the palms of your hands until they are very fine. Pass through a sieve or flour sifter into a large bowl, re-crumbling any leaves that are too coarse to get through.
Crumbling between the hands is an older method. You may also use a blender or food processor to grind the leaves.
3. Mix the sifted thyme with a drizzle of olive oil and work it between your hands until incorporated.
4. Briefly toast sumac berries, caraway seeds, and aniseed in a dry skillet over medium heat, then grind them to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle or a spice mill.
5. Toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly, until deeply golden brown.
6. (Optional) In a dry skillet on medium-low, toast wheat berries, stirring constantly, until they are deeply golden brown. Grind to a fine powder in a spice mill. If using ground flour, toast on low, stirring constantly, until browned.

Some people in the Levant bring their wheat to a local mill to be ground after toasting, as it produces a finer and more consistent texture.
7. Mix all ingredients together and work between your hands to incorporate.
Store za'tar in an airtight jar at room temperature. Mix with olive oil and use as a dipping sauce with bread.
