World War I veterans seeking early payment of a promised service bonus gather on the grounds of the Washington Monument June 2, 1932.

Upwards of 17,000 veterans and another 28,000 family members and supporters descended on Washington, D.C. and camped in a number of different locations around the city, including vacant buildings. The largest and most famous was on Anacostia flats.

Note that black and white veterans are mixing freely on the Monument grounds in contrast a nearby segregated beach on the Tidal Basin.

so normally on high holy days there are cops outside my temple with their car's lights flashing, both to direct traffic and also send the message of: do not try and shoot any jews here, there are cops and they will shoot you. but this year? nothing. very weird. nobody helping us across the street. turns out there was a cop inside, with his lights off, and wearing a yellow safety vest so he doesn't even look like a cop.

halfway thru the service I get this vision of a shooter coming in and shooting us. the cantor announced she's pregnant at the start of the service, and I imagined the shooter killing her specifically. most of the time, with intrusive thoughts, they're so ridiculous they're easy to dispel and get rid of (for me, I am very lucky). but this time, the threat felt so real it took much longer to get rid of. there's a lot of jews in here and no warning signs outside. it's a very scary thought to have that I could be the next national tragedy. and if not me, my parents, or my clergy, or my friends, or my community. luckily I did get it to go away... but yeah... didn't like that.

Early in their two-month occupation of Washington, D.C., the Bonus Army marches on Pennsylvania Avenue on their way to the U.S. Capitol June 6, 1932 to demand early payment of a promised World War I bonus.

The sign reads “millions for ….., not one cent for hungry veterans.”

They had earlier circled government buildings in the city before making their way to the Capitol where they picketed for 30 minutes before returning to their camps.

A thought I had at work:

Yugi and Atem-in-Yugi's-body sound so wildly different mostly because years of helping out in his grandpa's store has left Yugi with permanent Customer Service Voice(tm).

You know the voice. Pitched up slightly from your normal voice and trying your damnedest to sound polite even when you want to s t r a n g l e the customer? That's Yugi all of the time. His normal voice is probably between that and Atem-in-Yugi's-Body voice in range, but god help you getting him to relax enough to hear it, because that man is absolutely eaten up with the anxiety and won't admit it even if you held him at gunpoint. Again. AGAIN.

So, I've been a bit open about my mental health on here since it affects how I experience and interact with judaism, but I'm wondering how you all balance it? I've found that antisemitism does not specifically cause the recent episode/s I have been having, but it makes them worse, and I find that it makes it even harder to engage with judaism, so I'm currently in a Sisyphean spiral. I guess for me, my brain has been so high-alert about this stuff that it completely shuts down, but not engaging with my jewish community is just as detrimental to my health as antisemitism is. Plus, I'm just angry at the thought that something like antisemitism would prevent me from being with my community.
