Completed Dramas, Ranked
Tumblr media
Masterlist of all the dramas I have finished and my rankings from 1-10. Keep in mind I don't usually finish dramas that I don't like, so most of these reviews will be 6+ ratings.
List got too long! Have migrated it over to MDL: https://mydramalist.com/list/1zyZGNZ4

Dramas on Prime Video in the US I've watched multiple times:
Marriage Not Dating
Hogu's Love
Oh My Ghost
Flower Boy Next Door
A Witch's Love
I was actually looking for something else and saw these there. What? I didn't realize prime had picked up the license for them. These are the new classics. My comfort dramas.

oh my ghost
This kdrama is the one that made me realize Park Boyoung is my favorite actress. The way she is able to deliver this role and it is so believable so it had me engaged with the plot all the way through. But not only that! The twists and turns that this drama brings to the table are incredible because it does not stay one dimensional and it is not predictable.
This is a show that just stays on my mind constantly and I tend to go back to it a lot because of how enjoyable it is, it can be cute and funny but it also gets serious and dark but they are able to move throughout that beautifully.
Plot: 100
Acting: 100
Ending: 90
TOTAL: 97/100
recommend? yes, absolutely yes

I binged all of Hospital Playlist and Oh My Ghost while sick this week because I wanted more Jo Jung Suk. And my god. The range of this man’s acting skills.

I really liked Oh My Ghost, I think it was really cleverly written. Also, it did some gender role flipping in a way I appreciated.
It was uncomfortable to watch Possessed Na Bong-seon sexually harassing her co-workers and especially the male lead, but it made sense that they all were more worried about her being sick/having snapped than angry because it was so out of character for her. I liked that the conclusion was taking her to the hospital.
And then when Possessed Bong-seon and Sun-woo are dating and she keeps pushing for them to have sex, they ended up having a conversation about how he felt uncomfortable going so fast and she basically calls him a prude and then mocks him for it. I know the joke is that he's a guy so why not, but even though it was gender flipped I felt so seen. I have felt exactly what he was feeling and it is really awkward to talk about and you have this huge fear of being seen as prude and made fun of for it. It was just so real. I loved it.
It's in Ep 9. Her face when he says he's "conservative"!
Tumblr media
There is a similar dynamic in It's Okay to Be Okay where the female lead is pushing for sex and the male lead just keeps refusing but they didn't have a conversation about it so I felt like this show did it better.
The other thing that was done very well is that there were a ton of evidence that Sun-woo did like Bong-seon herself, not just her possessed version, like how he read her food blog, so it didn't feel like a bait-and-switch. Also, Bong-seon's personality changed in a very natural way once her life wasn't utterly miserable and she ended up being closer to the personality of Shin Soon-ae. This didn't feel like a cop-out to me, because lots of introverted people will become very friendly and chatty once they are comfortable (and not haunted by ghosts and extremely tired... I assume).
Also, the resteraunt worker shenanigans were great and Bong-seon's relationship, both possessed and not, with the Ghost's father and brother was really sweet.
Anyway, I loved it!

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is genuinely such a wonderful drama. It's well written with amazing characters with character development and great cinematography. I watched it as it was coming out and waited eagerly for each episode. Although it's been almost 2 years, I often think about it. It touched me and gave me so much comfort. I hope it brings you the same amount of joy and becomes your favourite drama (like it easily became for mine). Also if you have recommendations for dramas with similar vibes, please do share 😊
i totally agree with everything you said!! everything about it is so amazing. i am eagerly waiting for the character development of both main characters (▰˘◡˘▰). my favorite kdrama is 'run on' i totally recommend this drama with all my heart. some say it's slow moving, but to me it's so real and refreshing so I thoroughly enjoyed it. another drama i recommend is 'oh my ghost'. this kdrama is a little more "dark" but i thought it was sweet too. those are for the first ones that come to mind JDJSJSKS

Back for the first time in months to say I've finally found another K-drama (more comedy) that I love as much as Oh My Ghost. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Jo. So fantastic.
I have a tendency to start K-dramas, but never finish them bc I can't handle the awkward comedy, over the top acting, or lack of chemistry between actors. I have a very low tolerance for cringe.
But both these shows do the comedy and drama aspects right. Truly laugh out loud. And the chemistry of all the actors is great. Everyone is likeable... No one seems too cartoonish.
Turns out both shows had the same writer. So why did she make two shows in 2015 and 2016 and then practically disappear. Let her write all the shows!

Oh My Ghost
Synopsis:
Is this the best way to get to the afterlife? Na Bong Sun (Park Bo Young) is a painfully shy and timid woman who works as an assistant chef at Sun Restaurant. She has a secret crush on the star chef Kang Sun Woo (Jo Jung Suk) but doesn’t have the courage to act on it. But Bong Sun has the ability to see ghosts, in part due to her shaman grandmother. Shin Soon Ae (Kim Seul Gi) is a young woman who died without ever having experienced romance in her short life. She is determined to seduce as many men as possible and lose her virginity so that she can go happily into the afterlife. When Soon Ae meets Bong Sun, she finds the perfect vessel to carry out her mission. Sun Woo is nursing a broken heart but suddenly begins to notice the bolder, more confident Bong Sun. Can Soon Ae and Bong Sun both get what they want in the end?
The Best Things About This Drama:
The entire cast
The chemistry between Park Bo Young and Jo Jung Suk
Stalker
I'll give it a 2/5. This felt like it was supposed to be a 12 episode series, and then they asked for them to stretch it into 16. The plot got lost a lot and things dragged considerably at times. However, the cast did an incredible job with the script they were given. No notes to them - they were delightful.
