Idk why but this exchange on the show The Fiery Priest made my lose it cackling.
We’re about 8 episodes in and I’ve been enjoying it a lot more than the other shows I watched recently (I Wanna Hear Your Song and Cinderella at 2am).

DNA Lover was awful. So I usually go for romcoms, but this one irritated me to no end. So much back and forth, to the point that it irritated the shit out of me. All the red flags with both the female and male leads, the piece of shit mom of the female lead who treated her own kids like trash, and so many other things. I had it bad for the second lead and he was so much kinder than the main lead. He did not deserve to be pawned off on the second female lead. He deserved much better than the ending he got. Sigh.

I have officially turned @terminalsecondleadsyndrome into a Pado. 😂 She informed me that Big Ocean’s newest single “Flow” has been playing on repeat for her, and she actually went to follow them on YouTube and Tiktok. I’m so proud of them for getting the chance to film that MV in Paris recently. 🥺
I’ve been following Big Ocean since just before their debut bc I heard they were the first fully hard of hearing/deaf kpop band. I found that to be really cool as someone who is part of the disability community. They use a mix of KSL, ASL, and ISL (international SL). I would always bug Alexis with pics and videos from their TikTok lives and page, bc I appreciate how hard working they are. Their eagerness to communicate with fans in multiple languages is really sweet and their smiles are contagious. Plus their songs “Flow” and “Glow” are super catchy!

Pull the nose hairs back in? 😂 Yeo Jin Goo looks really freaking cute in his glasses in this clip. Also when he wakes up first thing in the morning he is cute as can be. Like I expected anything less when he’s so gorg.
So glad I finally got around to watching this variety show House on Wheels on Amazon. Random fact: the truck they’re driving, the Traverse, is the same model my family owns. I’m driving the same car one of my favs has also driven in (I’m a dork let me have this moment lmao). Also it has a book that my wheelchair fits in perfectly in the back. 🥺

Just found out the actor who played the upstairs neighbor from Clean With Passion For Now passed away earlier this month at 39. 😭 I also just started watching him in I Wanna Hear Your Song this week without realizing. He’s been a lot of things over the years and just put out two new shows this year.

Kdramas I have watched in recent months on my own without Alexis (bc she’s still recovering from her stroke):
Dr Slump (Enjoyed it. Really sweet RomCom that talked about mental health in a good way imo. Netflix)
Parasyte: the Grey (loved it. Netflix. Paranormal/horror show where aliens overtook human bodies.)
Strong Girl on Netflix. (Skip it. The original on Viki was way more entertaining, less cringe worthy, and not even comparable tbh).
Lovely Runner (was not a fan for multiple reasons. I went in further detail on my profile if you're that curious. This show was on Viki. Romantic comedy with a crime aspect and time travel. There are far better time travel shows like Twinkling Watermelon that doesn’t have as many ableist tropes).
DNA Lover (not thrilled. It was meant to be a comedy, but there were so many cringe worthy moments on this RomCom. The second lead treated her way better than the main lead as well).
Miss Night and Day (loved it. Netflix. Comedy with a paranormal twist. Female lead turns old in the day, young at night).
My Sweet Mobster (loved it. Viki. Comedy with crime aspect bc of the whole gang/mobster theme).
Sweet Home season 2 & 3 (Loved it. If you liked the first season I think you’ll also enjoy these last two. Netflix. Monster horror).
The Spies who Loved Me (Enjoyed it. Prime. A comedy. The name says it all! Two spies love the same woman. I just have one episode left but have enjoyed it, even if the main lead was not hot. Feat. Alexis’ special boy from Bride of Habaek [he’s still her icon on her profile @terminalsecondleadsyndrome ] who I’ve enjoyed watching bc he’s way prettier.)
Serendipity’s Love (available on Viki. Stereotypical, but had cute moments. Not bad if you want a straight up romcom. But there are definitely better ones out there. Feat the female lead from Let’s Fight Ghost, Love Alarm, Tale of Nokdu and many more. She’s been a busy actress! Get that coin.)
Gyeongseong Creature (Monster Netflix show. First season is set in Japanese occupied Korea, and dealt with human experiments, which not everyone will be comfortable with. So trigger warning for parallels with reality. If you liked Sweet Home though, you might be interested in this one too. Just starting season two.)
Joseon Attorney (Viki, historical. Definitely didn't mind, had funny and sweet moments while also being interesting.)
Just started Love Next Door on Netflix after the election results bc I needed a mindless romcom. Only three episodes in so far, but its been okay.
I’m glad I ended up enjoying most of them! It’s been a good run for now. I hadn't watched as much for a bit because of class, but it sounds like Alexis and I will be back to our shenanigans soon. A few of these will likely make it on the watch list (esp Joseon Attorney bc she loves both the guys in that one). What were your thoughts on these shows? Any you liked but didn't see listed?

Also my mom saying the same exact thing I was thinking with her shoving her fingers in her mouth to try and find the fly. 💀 “She’s gonna make herself throw up.” I’ve had the same exact reaction when I think a bug has flown up my nose. Also sorry about the dog sounds. 😅

Sorry, went to grab some real data, now I'm back:
Depression is common among people who are paralyzed. While about 10 percent of the U.S. non-disabled population is said to be moderately or severely depressed, research shows that about 20 to 30 percent of people with long-term disabilities are living with depression. Thankfully, most forms of depression can be treated...
Thoughts of suicide often occur when things look most hopeless. In spinal cord injury, for example, risk of suicide is highest in the first five years after the injury when people are still navigating their new world.
https://www.christopherreeve.org/todays-care/living-with-paralysis/health/depression/
Seems pretty realistic for a girl who just got paralyzed to be depressed and suicidal. Seems pretty backed up by the data.
Pt II.
You decided to post this. So I’m gonna answer how I want, because it’s my blog.
Nowhere in my post did I say people who become disabled don’t experience depression. I said I didn’t like the show perpetuating the idea that people feel that way after an injury like that.
Do you know how many people are told to kill themselves for simply existing as a disabled person in society? Do you know the amount of times I’ve seen people comment, “I would kill myself if I ever became that way.”? Too many times to count. If people read it all the time or hear it all the time from loved ones in their lives, that impacts how they will feel when actually in that situation themselves (especially at a young age). This type of ‘conditioning’ can lead to people having more suicidal ideations if they end up physically disabled at a young age.
It just felt like the plot line in Lovely Runner was perpetuating that to me. Especially because it was used as a plot point in their love story. That did not sit right with me. A big reason for her falling in love with him was because of his ‘talking her down’ in the first episode. The subject could have been talked about, without it being a part of how she fell in love with him. That’s what I took issue with.
The only way to make a difference in how people feel about becoming disabled is to properly educate society on the subject, to prevent the stigma that leads to depression and suicidal ideations. The vast majority of societies are failing in that respect. As Crutches and Spice always says about disability, “The only thing separating me from you, is luck and time”.
It can be really hard to come to terms with disability, I know it because I’ve experienced that struggle. I had to cope with my own internalized ableism. I didn’t even know there was a term for that the first couple of years, and my illnesses have only become worse with time. The only thing that has changed is my acceptance of the situation and a good support system.
Many who are disabled don’t identify as such because there is so much stigma around the word and being labeled as such.
Long story short, expressing my thoughts about the situation does not negate your thoughts about it. If we don’t agree, we don’t agree.

As to your Lovely Runner critique, I'm not a wheelchair user, but having depression right after a life-altering accident is pretty common. Sun-jae is able to help Im Sol with her depression because he was depressed after injuring his arm and becoming unable to swim competitively anymore.
I find it very realistic for someone to have depression after an injury like that. I don't feel like that is "abelist"
Pt I. Full response in Pt II.
